About the B-17 Bomber “Sentimental Journey”

  • B-17G Flying Fortress is named “Sentimental Journey.” Built in November 1944.
  • She is exceptionally rare! She’s only one of 10 B-17Gs in the world that is still flying out of almost 13,000 produced from 1936 to 1945. 8,000 of them were lost in combat.
  • Known as a strategic weapon because it was a potent, high-flying, long-range bomber that could defend itself. It was nicknamed the “flying fortress” due to its ability to suffer extensive battle damage and still return home.
  • Developed and produced by Boeing, Douglas, and Lockheed. Was used in every theater of war from 1941 to 1945.
  • The “Sentimental Journey” was originally manufactured and delivered to the U.S. Army Air Forces for war service in 1944 where she flew missions in the Pacific Theater.
  • After the war she flew for training, testing and at-sea rescue missions and was eventually sold for surplus and used as a fire bomber.
  • In 1978, the aircraft was purchased by a Commemorative Air Force (CAF) member and donated to the newly formed Arizona unit of the world-famous CAF where she was meticulously restored, maintained in tip-top condition, and is operated by all-volunteer crews from the membership of the Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum.
  • She has been involved in many Hollywood films: Twelve O’Clock High - starring Gregory Peck, Air Force – starring John Garfield, The War Lover,Test Pilot – starring Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy, Command Decision– starring Clark Gable, Tora! Tora! Tora!, and Memphis Belle.

Touring the B-17G is included in your admission price to the Museum.

Warbird Fans Welcome Return of EAA’s B-17 on Tour

Now that millions of people in the US are being vaccinated against the coronavirus each week, the country is inching towards some sort of return to normalcy. For warbird fans, the announcement from the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) that their B-17 bomber Aluminum Overcast is returning to a 2021 national tour is welcome news—and takes the aviation community one step closer to finally putting the COVID-19 pandemic at our six.

The upcoming B-17 public flights on the current Aluminum Overcast 2021 Tour Schedule include a stop in Lawrenceville, Georgia, before heading to Florida for stops in Lake City, Lakeland, Punta Gorda, Vero Beach, and Ocala. The B-17 will next make two North Carolina stops in Oak Island and Charlotte, followed by a stop in Wichita, Kansas, before returning to home base in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, from July 26 to August 1 during EAA AirVenture.

EAA flew their “Flying Fortress” on a few Midwest shake-down missions late last year to develop safety protocols allowing the B-17 to again fly members of the public. Like those flights, the new tour stops for 2021 will not allow ground tours, and the aircraft interior will be disinfected following each passenger flight. In addition, masks will be required for all passengers during their flights. EAA said these protocols are subject to change as conditions allow.

Aluminum Overcast B-17

“We developed a full protocol for B-17 operations based on the procedures used by the airlines as far as sanitization and passenger rules, following the CDC data that showed that properly masked passengers present an extremely low risk of transmission,” said Sean Elliott, EAA’s vice president of advocacy and safety, who leads the organization’s aircraft operations team. “We also minimized touchpoints in the aircraft by eliminating ground tours of the airplane’s interior at this time. As far as aircraft maintenance, in addition to the detailed inspections required, we completely rebuilt the airplane’s tailgunner section and did other restoration work to keep the aircraft in authentic and top flying condition.”

Aluminum Overcast was built in 1945, but was delivered to the Army Air Corps too late to see active service in World War II. The B-17 was donated to the EAA Aviation Foundation in 1981 with the provision of the aircraft being maintained in airworthy condition. After being displayed at the EAA Aviation Museum in Oshkosh for a decade, the airplane made its national tour debut in the spring of 1994.

Aluminum Overcast B-17

“We truly missed bringing this piece of flying history to aviation fans throughout the country last year and we’re very excited to be going back on tour,” said Jack Pelton, EAA’s CEO and chairman of the board. “These B-17 tour stops are more than flights of a historic aircraft—it is an emotional connection to the men and women who were part of the ‘The Greatest Generation’ and the sacrifices they made to benefit us in subsequent generations.”

Mission Flights in the B-17 are $409 for EAA Members and $449 for nonmembers when purchased online in advance, with “walk-up” prices of $435 for members and $475 for nonmembers.

2024 B-17 Flying Fortress Spring and Summer Tours Announced

The three actively flying b-17s in the u.s. have living history flight experience (lhfe) tours or shows announced..

b 17 tour schedule 2023

By Scott Thompson of Aero Vintage.

As the spring and summer flying and airshow season gets underway, it’s nice to see all three of the actively flying B-17s in the U.S. these days have Living History Flight Experience (LHFE) tours or shows announced. The LHFE is an FAA-sanctioned program that allows qualified museums to offer rides in vintage warbirds to the general public as a bit of an exception to the normal operating rules for these old aircraft. The LHFE programs go a long way in keeping these B-17s in the air as a way to offset the cost of just flying these bombers period. With the price of high-octane aviation fuel jumping faster than auto fuel, one wonders how much longer it will be economically viable to keep flying these airplanes. Besides the direct operating costs, such things as maintenance and insurance costs have also skyrocketed. So, if any readers are interested…this might be the year. Do be aware, though, that these are old airplanes…you are not taking a commercial airliner…so weather maintenance and other factors may modify the schedules available below.

The Commemorative Air Force’s (CAF) B-17G Sentimental Journey (44-83514/N9323Z) has announced its Flying Legends of Victory tour dates beginning on April 3 at Chino, California, and extending through August 18 at Akron, Ohio. Most of the dates are in the southeastern and eastern U.S., plus a few Canadian dates. Check out the schedule here . Rides are being sold in the B-17 as well as the CAF’s B-25 and C-47.

The Yankee Air Force’s B-17G, Yankee Lady (44-85829/N3193G) , based at Ypsilanti Airport near Detroit, Michigan, has a schedule posted for the spring and summer months with appearances mostly in Michigan and Ohio. Appearances start on June 8 in Reading, Pennsylvania, and extend through August 11 in Muskegon, Michigan. No doubt more dates will be added. B-17 flights are $550 per person…no aircraft location is specified. Discounts are made of Yankee Air Museum members.

Also actively flying is the Erickson Aircraft Collection B-17G, Ye Olde Pub (44-8543/N3701G) . It has a few appearances scheduled for the summer in which they will be offering rides in the B-17. The first posted dates are June 15-16 at the Olympic (Washington) airshow, with subsequent dates announced at Wenatchee, Washington, on June 21-22. No doubt additional dates will be posted as they are arranged. Thirty-minute flights B-17 flights are $525 per person. Check this page on the Erickson Aircraft Collection website.

The Experimental Aircraft Association’s B-17G, Aluminum Overcast (44-85740/N5017N) , based at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, remains grounded for some long-term maintenance to correct a structural problem found during a routine inspection. We hope to see the airplane return to the skies and tour again in 2025.

Something Older than The B52 that Looks Good & is Still Flying! 👍🤣🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

My kids bought me a ride on “Liberty Belle” some years back. Very lucky to have had the experience.

Come visit Winnipeg, MB http://www.royalaviationmuseu.com

A friend and I flew in the Aluminum Overcast at Osh Kosh 9 years ago. I’ll never forget it, once in a lifetime experience for me.

The should change the nickname to “Flying Coffin”. These planes belong in museums, not in the sky.

The aircraft design is safe, certified and legal. Recent accidents have been attributed to human error, maintenance failings, or are pending further investigation. There are no outstanding questions over the aircraft type’s safety overall. There are a number of B-17s in static museums, those flying are privately owned and follow the requirements to be able to be operated. We hope that clarifies your misunderstanding.

I would rather take a flight in any one of these B17s than even a short hop on a 737 MAX.

Well said Sir and let’s not forget that we are not flying over the Atlantic followed by Messerschmitts.

My dad’s boss at Westinghouse served as a navigator on a B24 and was shot down over Dresden Germany. The dedication and bravery of those men that served on the B-17 and 24s is amazing. I will honor them until I die.

Well stated. I was a 30 minute drive from Falcon Air Field in Mesa, AZ where B-17 Sentimental Journey was stationed. Visited many times, sent chills up my spine every time. My father was a navigator on B-24’s and then B-17’s; flew 35 missions successfully out of Mendelshom, England. Please keep all of them flying, the pride is immeasurable!!

Larry, there’s something missing in your bloodline. It’s America, anything is possible here and by the way over 40 in museums in the United States alone.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH EXPERIENCING WHAT THE GREATEST GENERATION EXPERIENCED FOR 35 MISSIONS!!!! THE UNKNOWN AND WONDERING IF YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE IT BACK!💥💥💥😱😱😱🤔💭

Do you think that the B-17s during WWII were much safer than the few still flying……at least no one will be trying to shoot you out of the sky. I flew on Nine-O-Nine……..it was an honor to be able to fly on it.

I also flew on 909, and that was one sad day in my life when I heard of it’s demise.

Sure, if you live close enough to visit a museum. My Dad is 89, he’d sure be irritated if I glued him to a rocking chair. All of the ol War Birds should fly free. They tell a story when flying low overhead, The sound, size and wow were they slow. I didn’t notice any of those points when visiting SAC Air Museum in Ashland Ne. Even the SR 71 hanging from the entrance ceiling seemed slow.

The same could be said for your car. It’s a proven fact there are more fatal accidents per miles driven in a car than there are in miles flown by a B-17. In fact there are SO MANY automobile fatalities EVERY DAY in the US, that they rarely get reported on the news, but a single B-17 accident is SO RARE, it’s reported worldwide. I’d gladly fly in a B-17 over driving my car to the store👍

Then you should stay on the porch or go to a museum

Surprised there aren’t more direct replies yet to this brilliant two line dismissive from Larry C, but it’s so ridiculous that it actually made me laugh. I’ve flown in one of these old B-17s, kind of in honor of my dad that was on B-17s in WWII before they put him on B-29s. This plane is one of the most rugged airplanes ever built and while you do have to seriously maintain these when they get very old like this, with dedication you can keep them safe and flying, which is a tribute to the men that originally built and flew on them and now a tribute to the airplane itself and the men that have kept just a few of them in the air. Perhaps more importantly than even the rare safety issue is that these are a tremendous part of our history and our heritage.

To your comment about the B17 safety yes it’s old but people like my father flew 30 missions over Europe a number of times coming back shot up. The key is the plane brought them back. He was the bombardier in the nose of the plane and managed to survive so I think just taking a ride should be ok. These men all heroes barely spoke about what they did. Beautiful airplane built to last and protect.

Larry C, While I will take exception to your characterization of these aircraft as “Fly8ng Coffin(s)”, I won’t argue with you about them belonging in museeums. As the years go by, we see fewer and fewer of these magnificent flying machines around to appreciate. It is a cold hard fact, one day each and every one of these war birds will take to the sky one last time, and then never again. While we do not know currently know the date that this will happen, we can control the condition of the airframe when it does happen. And while I would never want to be the hand that wields the pen that signs the final flight log, we can and should decide when the final flight should take place.

Will they be coming to Philadelphia

This is the information we have. Contact the organization direct for more.

Glad to see these beautiful ladies active again and the opportunities to experience flying in them to the public still happening.

Interested in riding in the B17 Flying Fortress. Near Las Vegas or in Ut

When is B17 Flying Fortress schedule to be posted

Hiya I’m from UK but love all the old planes go to see b17 Sally b as much as I can in the summer months would love to come to the US and have a fly in one

I had the honor of walking through the Memphis Belle a few years ago, and gave her a good long walk around last fall in Dayton Ohio, and if you could take it off from a Walmart parking lot, I’d gladly be on her.

On Sept 8 1944 staff Sgt Roy Manssen whom was in the 379th AAF Bomber Group was on a mission to Germany to bomb ball bearing factories, fuel depots and military producing factorys when his plane suffered a direct hit and blew up in mid air. He was only 18 and a member of my family. Now he is flying in God’s Air Force. Thank u for giving your life for your Country and freedoms we so enjoy today.

So let’s go one last time before I turn into a showgirl forever!”

The Boss and his band are back on the open road, with the peptic ulcer disease that forced him to postpone several 2023 dates in the rearview mirror. Having returned in March, Springsteen brought the formidable show across the United States all spring—with dates including two headline shows at London’s Wembley Stadium—before dipping into Europe and concluding with more North American stops..

Built to spill.

Built to Spill released their influential second studio album, There’s Nothing Wrong With Love , back in 1994. To celebrate the indie-rock touchstone’s 30th anniversary this year, the band will perform it in full on a series of dates starting this summer through the fall. The dates begin in Boise—where Built to Spill originally formed—and will take the trio through Portland, Chicago, New York, and more major cities. The group will be joined by John McMahon, who tracked cello on the original recording of There’s Nothing Wrong With Love .

Now that Caribou is officially back with new music—the new single “Honey,” from April, followed by June’s “Broke My Heart”—Dan Snaith is bringing his electropop band on the road for more trippy live sets. Beginning with shows in Tokyo and Amsterdam this October, Caribou will head to North America in November for gigs in Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Toronto, and more with support from Yunè Pinku . Caribou will then take a break and then reboot in the new year with European dates in early 2025.

Cassandra jenkins.

Cassandra Jenkins last hit the road in support of her 2021 album, An Overview on Phenomenal Nature . With the release of her sophomore LP, My Light, My Destroyer , the singer-songwriter will embark on a tour of North America and Europe throughout the autumn. Jenkins previewed her new LP with the sauntering “Only One” and glassy highlight “Delphinium Blue,” which should give you an idea of the kind of luminous show Jenkins puts on.

Charli xcx / troye sivan.

Charli XCX and Troye Sivan famously have two big songs together, “1999” and “2099,” and they’re adding to their collaborative history with a joint tour called Charli XCX & Troye Sivan Present: Sweat Tour. The shows take place across North America in September and October.

Charly bliss.

It’s been five years since Charly Bliss last released an album, so the Brooklyn power-pop band plans on pulling out all the stops for new LP Forever . After the follow-up to 2019’s Young Enough comes out on August 16, Charly Bliss will tour across the United States and Canada this fall. The run begins on September 5 in Washington D.C. and brings them through major cities like Toronto, Chicago, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Austin, and Philadelphia. Openers haven’t been revealed just yet, but knowing how high-energy Charly Bliss shows are, it’s bound to be a giddy, heart-racing time.

Childish gambino.

The last time Childish Gambino hit the road was in 2018 for his This Is America Tour, supporting the viral “ This Is America .” Nearly six years later, and following Atavista —which the artist described as “the finished version” of 3.15.20 —Donald Glover resurrects his alter ego for a three-leg run spanning North America, Europe, and Australasia. Dubbed the New World Tour, the seven-month stretch kicks off at Oklahoma City’s Paycom Center on August 11 and ends at Australia’s RAC Arena on February 11, with Amaarae and Willow joining select dates. The tour is in support of new album Bando Stone & the New World .

After performing at Mustafa’s latest Artists for Aid benefit concert for Palestine and Sudan, on July 4, at London’s Troxy, Clairo will enjoy the rest of the summer before preparing for her fall shows. In support of her third studio album and Sling follow-up, Charm , the singer-songwriter has scheduled five nights at Los Angeles’ the Fonda Theatre and New York’s Webster Hall in September. Plus, on November 15, Clairo is set to perform at Mexico City’s annual Corona Capital festival.

Clairo: Charm Residency

Cloud nothings.

When Cloud Nothings released Here and Nowhere Else , in 2014, they had already attained cult status for the blistering, Steve Albini–produced Attack on Memory . The follow-up, another noisy and brutally melodic affair, promised they were in it for the long haul, as this 10th-anniversary tour confirms. The dates kick off with two nights in their native Ohio, before spanning North America and winding up in Chicago. Equipment, Farmer’s Wife, and Armlock support select dates.

Cloud Nothings: Here and Nowhere Else 10 Year Anniversary Tour

Mellow psych-rockers Crumb dropped their third full-length album, Amama , back in May, and it boasts hypnotic singles like “ The Bug ” and its title track . Crumb will finally break out those new songs live when they start their long-awaited tour in support of that LP in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 18—just three days before their performance at Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago. Crumb will stay on the road for most of the fall, performing across the United States and Canada into late October, and L’Rain , Vagabon , and Discovery Zone will join them at select shows along the way.

Crumb: amama tour, cyndi lauper.

Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour begins in Montreal on October 18 and ends in Chicago on December 5. With 23 stops across the continent, it will be a goodbye to the road, of course, but also the pop legend’s first major run in over a decade, featuring her debut headlining performance at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Honduran American artist Empress Of released her new album, the synth-spangled For Your Consideration , in the spring. She’s been on the road ever since, and will continue the trek with an autumn tour that kicks off in California in September. The singer-songwriter’s itinerary will take her through North America and Europe, including stops in New York, Seattle, Paris, and Montreal, plus a performance at Pitchfork Music Festival London in November.

Fontaines d.c..

The new era of Fontaines D.C. proceeds apace. The band returned, newly homed at XL Recordings , with the nervy, psychedelia-tinged single “Starburster,” with its fourth album, Romance , set to follow in August. The stadium-sized sound of the record is tailored to some of the biggest shows of the group’s career (albeit not in actual stadiums), including several major festival dates, a Hollywood Palladium headline set, two shows at Brooklyn Paramount, and two more at London’s Alexandra Palace.

Fontaines D.C.: Romance USA & Canada Tour 2024

Future / metro boomin.

Future and Metro Boomin have released two collaborative albums this year— We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You —and they’re going to stick together when they begin the We Trust You Tour in the summer. If you want to catch up on all the hubbub surrounding the tour, read Alphonse Pierre’s article “ A Power Ranking of Everyone in the Drake–Kendrick Lamar–Every Rapper Ever Battle Royale .”

Other notable cities include Seattle, Kansas City, and Milwaukee, with two-night stops in Los Angeles and Chicago.

When Green Day resume their tour in late July, they’ll have no shortage of support, as they are touring North America with the Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and the Linda Lindas. The U.S. leg wraps up on September 28 in San Diego’s Petco Park, and, then, the band will head to South Africa for two stadium shows, featuring performances from the Offspring and Fokofpolisiekar. Green Day are on the road in support of their latest album, Saviors (plus the 30th anniversary of Dookie and the 20th anniversary of American Idiot ).

Idles have had so many shows in support of new album Tangk —and there are more to come. The group has shows in Europe through August, and Idles come back to North America in September. But it doesn’t end there—catch Idles touring Mexico and Europe (again) to cap off 2024 before they kick off the new year with shows in New Zealand, Australia, and Japan.

Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam has planned an extensive summer tour behind his new album, Light Verse , the indie-folk artist’s first LP since 2017, which features contributions from Fiona Apple, keyboardist Tyler Chester, bassist Sebastian Steinberg, guitarist David Garza, violinist Paul Cartwright, and percussionists Griffin Goldsmith, Beth Goodfellow, and Kyle Crane. Jane’s addiction.

The classic lineup of Jane’s Addiction is currently touring for the first time in 14 years. Singer Perry Farrell , guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Eric Avery embarked on their North American jaunt in late May, but they still have a number of cities to play—including Las Vegas, San Diego, Houston, Tampa, Milwaukee, and many more. Their final stop takes place on September 29 at St. Louis’ Evolution Festival. English rock band Love and Rockets are supporting Jane’s Addiction for the final leg of their tour.

Janet jackson.

Last year, Janet Jackson began her career-spanning Together Again Tour with opener Ludacris; now, the legendary pop star has enlisted Nelly to open the upcoming leg. Following a three-night opening run in Hawaii and a few dates in Japan and the Philippines, Jackson will then travel across North America through June and July, bringing her timeless pop-R&B and tenacious dance routines to cities like Chicago, Brooklyn, New Orleans, Toronto, and many more.

The jesus and mary chain / the psychedelic furs.

The Jesus and Mary Chain and the Psychedelic Furs have joined forces for a double-bill promising classics of the 1980s and beyond, with support from Frankie Rose . The dates extend the Jesus and Mary Chain’s run behind last year’s Glasgow Eyes , their second since returning to the studio for the 2017 comeback album Damage and Joy . The Psychedelic Furs, meanwhile, last hit the studio for 2020’s Made of Rain , and have spent most of the time since (pandemic allowing) on the road.

Johnny blue skies (aka sturgill simpson).

Following the release of his 2021 album, The Ballad of Dood & Juanita , Sturgill Simpson had to cancel a number of tour dates due to a vocal cord injury . Now, he’s ready to take the stage once more… or at least, his new alias Johnny Blue Skies is. The debut from Johnny Blue Skies is Passage du Desir , is out July 12, and the musician will set out on tour roughly one month after it drops. The Why Not? touring band will be rounded out by bassist Kevin Black, keyboardist Robbie Crowell, guitarist Laur Joamets, and drummer Miles Miller.

Johnny marr / james.

Mancunians Johnny Marr and James first toured together back in 1985, when James supported the Smiths on the Meat Is Murder tour. “We admired them and even did one of their songs in our set,” Marr recalled. Now, they’re due to reunite for a joint tour of North America, set to take place from September to October. Marr and James will stop in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, and more cities. “I’ve been a fan of theirs ever since and being out on tour again after 40 years is a really great thing,” Marr has said.

Crowds in Forest Hills, New York, on August 17; Chicago, Illinois, on September 1; Quincy, Washington, on September 14; and Austin, Texas, on November 15 are also getting the band’s famous three-hour “marathon shows.”

Militarie gun.

The hardest-working touring band in post-hardcore is dead set on maintaining that title in 2024. Los Angeles’ Militarie Gun started this year on the road for their North American headlining tour and won’t park the van until they’re done with their ever-expanding tour by the fall. All along, they’ve been bringing Life Under the Gun , their long-awaited debut album, to life at venues and festival stages alike.

Missy elliott.

For the first time in her long and legendary career, Missy Elliott is embarking on a headlining tour of North America. Elliott is taking some friends along with her, including Ciara, Busta Rhymes, and Timbaland. Out of This World — The Missy Elliott Experience opened on July 4 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and the rapper will close things out in Rosemont, Illinois, on August 22. Upon announcing the tour, Elliott confessed: “I had to do it big, and I had to do it with family!”

Out of This World — The Missy Elliott Experience

She may not be an outspoken artist online, but, behind the scenes, Mitski is making every word count. While TikTok was busy fawning over “My Love Mine All Mine,” Mitski was putting in the work to find a music venue that offers fair merch rates while still booking a place big enough to house her sizable fandom at each stop. The result of her efforts is a North American tour with multiple nights at theaters around the country in support of The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We .

Orville peck.

Earlier this year, country crooner Orville Peck released the new single “Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other,” a cover and collaboration with Willie Nelson that doubled as the first taste of a duets album called Stampede . He’s also bringing the new music on the road through North America. Peck has recruited various supporting acts to open, including Durand Jones, Jaime Wyatt, Debii Dawson, and others, but you can probably count on a few surprise appearances from artists who feature on Stampede to pop up along the way, too.

When Pearl Jam announced their new album, Dark Matter , along with news of a world tour, it marked a first in the band’s long, storied career. That simultaneous reveal seemed to match the excitement and wild nature of the record itself, or at least its self-titled single. Onstage, while performing new material, cherry-picking classics, and breaking out deep cuts from their extensive catalog, Pearl Jam will bring that enthusiasm to nine countries over the course of the year. The tour began in May, and will last through November.

Pearl Jam: Dark Matter World Tour 2024

Fresh off their successful triple-bill North American tour with Modest Mouse and Cat Power , Pixies are wasting no time hitting the road again—this time traversing Europe and Australia. The European tour will feature special appearances from British bands including the Pale White, Big Special, Sprints , Picture Parlour, and NewDad. In Australia and New Zealand, the alt-rock legends will be supporting Pearl Jam’s Dark Matter World Tour for their last quarter of shows.

After spending February in Japan and Australia, and March in Singapore, the pop star headed to Europe in May for a four-month stint with supporting act Paramore . After recently doing the rounds with the Smile , Thom Yorke is setting out on his own for a series of shows in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, and Japan. If you would like to know almost nothing about what those shows will entail, look no further than his accompanying statement: “I will be alone on stage,” Yorke said, “trying a new kind of solo show thing playing versions of the songs I have written from my recent and not so recent past.”

Tomb mold / horrendous.

Toronto’s sci-fi obsessed trio Tomb Mold and Philadelphia death metal quartet Horrendous both dropped pummeling albums in 2023—the former shared The Enduring Spirit , the latter released Ontological Mysterium —that should sound twice as loud live as they do on record. Luckily, they’re joining forces for a run of shows. Dubbed the Enraptured by Fate’s Tangled Thread Tour, it’s currently underway and lasts through the end of the month, concluding in Brooklyn on July 27. According to Horrendous, it’s been a long time coming— six years , to be exact. Ever since they played a weekend-long stint of live shows with Tomb Mold in 2018, they’ve been trying to scheme how to organize a proper tour together. At long last, it’s finally here.

Taking place this fall, the Black in America Tour will bring Staples across North America with special guest Baby Rose in tow. Before that, though, Staples will play a handful of shows in Europe as well as a festival date at Chicago’s Lollapalooza in August.
