JetBlue consistently receives the highest customer satisfaction scores among low-cost carriers in the United States. While they no longer provide free checked bags to all passengers, JetBlue offers a number of inflight perks that keep passengers happy.

From free internet on many flights to unlimited snacks to free satellite television, JetBlue is a solid way to fly around the U.S. (and to a number of other countries).

With the Barclays JetBlue Plus Card, you can make these flights even more enjoyable thanks to a number of perks, and even earn TrueBlue points for award flights.

As a World Elite MasterCard credit card, you can also count on it coming with a number of consumer protections.

Let’s dive in!

JetBlue TrueBlue Benefits

JetBlue flights serve a number of destinations across the United States as well as the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and even northern South America.

Jetblue planes

With the JetBlue Plus Card , you can earn TrueBlue points on all of your purchases, which can help you book your next award flight and take an amazing vacation.

With this card, you can earn 6X points per dollar spent on all JetBlue purchases, so all your cash tickets can give you a big boost toward your next award flight.

Unlike many co-branded airline credit cards, the JetBlue Plus Card comes with a couple of popular bonus categories that make earning TrueBlue points even easier. You can earn 2X points per dollar spent at restaurants and grocery stores.

All other purchases with the card will earn 1X point per dollar spent.

Additionally, you will receive a bonus of 5,000 TrueBlue points after your account anniversary each year you keep the card.

If you have Mosaic elite status with JetBlue, you can earn even more TrueBlue points on your cash tickets with JetBlue. In addition to the 6X points per dollar you’ll earn with the JetBlue Plus Card, JetBlue members earn 3X per $1 on JetBlue base fare (Blue) flights and a further 3X if they book it through the JetBlue website. Finally, you can earn an additional 3X points per $1 for having Mosaic status. With this combo, you could earn up to 15X points per dollar spent on JetBlue tickets!

Don’t forget that the JetBlue Plus Card often comes with a hefty sign-up bonus to get you started. Just meet the minimum spending requirement within the stated timeframe and you’ll be on your way to some amazing award flights.

Hot Tip:  Need some inspiration for ways to use your points? Check out the best ways to redeem TrueBlue points for award travel.

Now, you might be wondering how you’ll earn JetBlue Mosaic status if you don’t fly regularly for work. Well, the JetBlue Plus Card can take your annual credit card spending and turn it into elite status for you.

If you have the JetBlue Plus Card, you will earn 1 tile for every $1,000 you spend. Once you earn 10 tiles, you’ll start earning perks and once you hit 50 tiles, you’ll be rewarded with Mosaic status.

Mosaic elite status comes with a number of benefits and perks that can make flying with JetBlue even better.

Perhaps the most basic but important perk provided by Mosaic status is the ability to change flights without fees. This benefit even extends to other people booked under your reservation.

While holding the JetBlue Plus Card already provides a complimentary checked bag to you and your traveling companions on your itinerary, Mosaic status allows you to check a second bag at no cost.

Mosaic members also receive access to priority boarding , and you’ll even receive complimentary alcoholic drinks once onboard.

The Barclays AAdvantage ® Aviator™ Red World Elite Mastercard ® and the Citi ® / AAdvantage ® Platinum Select ® World Elite™ Mastercard ® each provide cardholders with a 10% rebate of the American miles they use (up to 10,000 per calendar year) to book award flights.

Similarly, the JetBlue Plus Card provides a 10% rebate on all TrueBlue points redeemed for award flights.

This perk is a great way to extend your miles further so you can book even more award flights and save big money on your vacations.

If you’ve ever looked at an inflight menu while traveling in economy on a domestic flight, you’ve probably noticed how expensive the meal and beverage options can be.

With the JetBlue Plus Card, you can save 50% on these inflight purchases so you can enjoy a meal and a beer, cocktail, or glass of wine without breaking the bank.

Additionally, you will also receive the 50% savings when you purchase a movie to watch.

As a World Elite Mastercard , the JetBlue Plus Card comes with several benefits beyond the ability to earn free flights and improve the JetBlue experience:

  • Lyft — Get a $10 Lyft credit (once per month) when you take at least 5 rides in a month
  • Shoprunner — Receive a free ShopRunner membership offering free 2-day shipping and free return shipping at specific online retailers
  • Fandango — With every 2 movie tickets purchased, get $5 off future movie tickets or at-home purchases (through double points on Fandango VIP)
  • World Elite Concierge — Enjoy 24/7 concierge service that acts as a personal assistant to secure reservations or help with shopping
  • Golf Concierge Services — In partnership with the PGA TOUR, enjoy exclusive golf offers and experiences
  • Mastercard ID Theft Protection — Monitor your credit file for changes, get alerts with suspicious activity, and receive ID theft resolution
  • Cell Phone Protection‎ — Your card comes with $1,000 in yearly coverage (up to $800 per claim, 2 claims per year) should your cell phone get stolen or need certain repairs
  • Mastercard Zero Liability Protection‎ — You’re not responsible if someone makes unauthorized purchases with your card
  • Global Emergency Services‎ — Get emergency assistance anytime in any language

JetBlue is a popular airline that is only gaining steam. With the JetBlue Plus Card, you can earn tons of TrueBlue points to help you book award flights. You can even spend your way to Mosaic elite status and make every trip more enjoyable.

If you’re looking for an easy way to earn JetBlue points, this just might be the best card to do so. If not, there are plenty of other options out there for JetBlue flyers . Once you have a nice stash of TrueBlue points, you’ll only have to figure out where you want to go next!

Always a fan of flying, it was only natural that Spencer was drawn to finding a way to improve the travel experience.

Like many, he started this journey searching for cheap flights to take him around the world. This was fun for a while, but Spencer was intrigued by the idea of flying in business and first class!

Throwing himself into what became an extensive research project, Spencer spent 3-4 hours per night learning everything he could about frequent flyer miles over the course of several months (he thinks this is normal). He runs Straight to the Points, an award-seat alert platform.

JetBlue is a top-rated U.S. airline and its co-branded credit card from Barclays, the JetBlue Plus Card , offers many benefits useful for JetBlue flyers. But are all those benefits worth the $99 annual fee?

Here’s how to decide if you can come out ahead with this card.

Valuable perks of the JetBlue Plus Card

Generous welcome offer.

Earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases and paying the annual fee in full, both within the first 90 days, with the JetBlue Plus Card. NerdWallet estimates JetBlue points are worth 1.5 cents each, making this welcome bonus worth roughly $600.

That’s a valuable welcome offer — especially when you consider that other cards make you spend $3,000 or more in the first three months to earn a welcome bonus.

Bonus points for restaurants, grocery stores and JetBlue flights

The JetBlue Plus Card earns 6x points on JetBlue purchases, 2x points at restaurants and grocery stores, then 1x points on all other purchases.

At a 1.5 cents -per-point value, that’s like getting 9% back on JetBlue purchases, a 3% return on groceries and restaurants and 1.5% on all other purchases. These are competitive earning rates compared to other airline credit cards.

Modest annual fee and no foreign transaction fees

The JetBlue Plus Card has a $99 annual fee. It comes with no foreign transaction fees , making this a great option to use when traveling internationally.

Each year you renew your credit card, you'll receive 5,000 JetBlue points as an anniversary bonus. Those 5,000 JetBlue points are worth about $75, reducing your effective annual fee to only $24. What's more, this bonus is a great ongoing benefit.

A chance to become an elite TrueBlue member

One especially valuable perk of the JetBlue Plus Card : You can actually earn toward elite status in the TrueBlue program from spending alone. Charge $50,000 or more in a calendar year in qualifying purchases and you earn JetBlue Mosaic 1 status (the lowest of the program's four tiers).

Mosaic 1 members get their first two checked bags for free, early boarding, access to extra-legroom seats if available and free same-day changes to flight reservations.

As you reach each JetBlue Mosaic status tier (including Mosaic 1), you also get to choose one of the program's Perks You Pick options, which include 15,000 JetBlue points, free travel for pets on an eligible flight or a $99 statement credit to your JetBlue card, among other options.

Various discounts

The JetBlue Plus Card has a few benefits that could not only save you money, but also save points for award flights. These benefits can provide plenty of value, especially if you fly JetBlue frequently.

Baggage. As airlines increase checked baggage fees, the JetBlue Plus Card offers your first checked bag free for you and up to three companions. The companions need to be on the same reservation as the cardholder in order to receive the free checked bag benefit.

In-flight dining. Considering purchasing food or a drink during your flight? Your JetBlue Plus Card gives you an in-flight savings of 50% when you pay with your card.

Vacations. JetBlue Vacations packages can be a great way to purchase hotel and airfare at the same time, potentially saving you money. The JetBlue Plus Card offers an annual $100 statement credit when you purchase a JetBlue Vacation package of $100 or more.

Points rebates. As a JetBlue Plus Card customer, every time you redeem your TrueBlue points for a JetBlue-operated flight you get 10% of those points rebated to you. There is no maximum amount of points you can receive back.

Additionally, the JetBlue Plus Card is a World Elite Mastercard , which comes with a range of perks like Lyft credits, cell phone protection, Fandango credits and other benefits.

The bottom line

For the JetBlue customer who can put its benefits to good use, the JetBlue Plus Card is absolutely worth it. Because anniversary bonus points reduce this card’s effective cost to just $24, it’s a very good value.

Even if you fly JetBlue just once or twice per year, the checked bag benefit can offset the card’s annual fee, as JetBlue charges up to $35 for one checked bag. Add in all the other benefits this card offers and there's a high likelihood you'll come out ahead.

JetBlue Plus Card review: A rewarding credit card for JetBlue fans

Ryan Wilcox

JetBlue Plus Card overview

The JetBlue Plus Card offers a terrific return on airfare spending and comes with a 5,000-point anniversary bonus that covers nearly two-thirds of the card's $99 annual fee. Benefits such as a free checked baggage allowance, 10% rebate on award redemptions and annual JetBlue Vacations statement credit make this card worthwhile, even for occasional travelers. Card Rating*: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

*Card Rating is based on the opinion of TPG's editors and is not influenced by the card issuer.

JetBlue's loyalty program, TrueBlue , tends to fly under the radar, as redemptions are largely restricted to flights operated by JetBlue and Hawaiian Airlines. However, that isn't necessarily bad if JetBlue is your airline of choice, long known for its customer-friendly experience, superior (and TPG Award-winning ) Mint business class and an extensive East Coast and Caribbean route network.

If you are a JetBlue flyer and want to boost your TrueBlue balance or elevate your flying experience with the airline, it makes sense for you to pick up the JetBlue Plus Card. Given its low spending requirement, the card offers several valuable perks that help justify its $99 annual fee.

First, note that you'll want to have a "good" credit score (670 or above) for the best chances of approval. Now, let's dig into the card specifics.

The information for the JetBlue Plus Card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

JetBlue Plus Card welcome offer

The JetBlue Plus Card currently offers a welcome bonus of 50,000 points after spending $1,000 on purchases and paying the annual fee in full within the first 90 days. Based on our valuation of 1.4 cents per point, that's a value of $700. This isn't the best offer we've seen on this card, but it's not bad either.

barclay jetblue card travel insurance

In reality, the welcome bonus is worth slightly more since the card offers a rebate on all award bookings, stretching your points further.

JetBlue Plus Card benefits

In addition to a high return on JetBlue spending, there's a ton of value in the benefits offered by the JetBlue Plus Card. Although the perks mostly revolve around JetBlue, even occasional flyers should be able to take full advantage of them:

  • Free first checked bag : Get a first checked bag free for you and up to three companions on the same reservation when you purchase a ticket with your card.
  • 5,000-point anniversary bonus : These points are worth about $70 according to our valuations , so without setting foot on a JetBlue plane, you're covering nearly two-thirds of the card's $99 annual fee.
  • 50% inflight savings : Get 50% back on eligible inflight purchases on JetBlue-operated flights, including alcoholic drinks and Eat Up snack boxes. This discount is applied automatically, generally on the day the charge is posted to your card account.
  • Fast-track Mosaic status : Get automatic Mosaic status after spending $50,000 on the card in a calendar year.
  • 10% rebate on award flights : When you redeem TrueBlue points for a JetBlue flight, you'll earn 10% of those points back after you take the flight — which can be used toward your next redemption.
  • Points Payback: Allows you to redeem your points for a statement credit, up to $1,000 annually.
  • Annual JetBlue Vacations statement credit : Get a $100 statement credit every year with your purchase of a JetBlue Vacations package of $100 or more with your card.
  • No foreign transaction fees

barclay jetblue card travel insurance

Aside from the JetBlue-specific perks, there are general travel and purchase protections , as well as other everyday perks by being a World Elite Mastercard . Here are a few that stand out:

  • Trip delay protection : Get up to $300 per trip if your flight is delayed more than six hours (maximum of twice in a 12-month period)
  • Trip cancellation and interruption coverage : Get up to $5,000 back in nonrefundable expenses per trip ($10,000 maximum per 12-month period) if you need to cancel or interrupt a trip for a covered reason.

Earning points on the JetBlue Plus Card

On the earning side, this card outdoes most cobranded cards from other airlines and even some cards that earn transferable points . With this card, you'll earn 6 points per dollar on JetBlue purchases, 2 points per dollar at restaurants and grocery stores and 1 point per dollar on all other purchases. As a point of comparison, the no-annual-fee version of this card offers half as many points on JetBlue purchases.

barclay jetblue card travel insurance

It's also worth noting that as a TrueBlue member, you'll earn at least 2 base points per dollar on JetBlue flights booked directly on top of the 6 points per dollar you'll earn through the card.

Redeeming points on the JetBlue Plus Card

The TrueBlue loyalty program is revenue-based, so redemptions are very straightforward. You can redeem points for any seat, including JetBlue Mint seats, on any JetBlue flight across its entire route network and get a fairly consistent value from your points. The more a flight costs in cash, the more it costs in points and vice versa.

barclay jetblue card travel insurance

For instance, TPG credit card writer Ryan Wilcox takes advantage of JetBlue's somewhat frequent flash sales . Often, flights start at $20 one-way and can be booked for a measly 400 points. The positive is that you won't have to worry about scouring for saver award availability. However, it also means there aren't any major sweet spots for long-haul international first class .

Transferring points on the JetBlue Plus Card

Although JetBlue — as an airline — partners with a handful of other carriers, Hawaiian Airlines is the only one you can book through the TrueBlue loyalty program. Instead of using the revenue-based base redemption model that ties the award rates to the price of an individual itinerary, however, TrueBlue has a more standard, region-based award chart for these tickets.

barclay jetblue card travel insurance

To give you a general idea, one-way flights to Hawaii cost 22,000 points from the West Coast and 30,000 points from the East Coast in coach or 45,000 points and 70,000 points, respectively, in first class .

Which cards compete with the JetBlue Plus Card?

Here's a side-by-side look at three of the card's mid-tier travel competitors:

  • If you prefer Capital One : The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card provides 5 miles per dollar on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and 2 miles per dollar on all purchases for a reasonable $95 annual fee (see rates and fees ). For more information, read our full review of the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card.
  • If you prefer Chase : For a $95 annual fee on the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card , you'll earn 5 points per dollar on travel booked through the Chase Travel portal, 3 points per dollar on dining, and 2 points per dollar on all travel not booked through the Chase Travel portal. For more information, read our full review of the Sapphire Preferred.
  • If you prefer Citi: The Citi Premier Card (see rates and fees ) has a $95 annual fee and earns 3 points per dollar on air travel, hotels, gas stations, supermarkets and restaurants (including takeout). You'll also enjoy perks like an $100 annual hotel credit and extended warranty protection. For more information, read our full review of the Citi Premier .

For additional options, check out our full list of the top travel rewards cards.

Is the JetBlue Plus Card worth it?

No other mid-tier cards come close to the JetBlue Plus Card when it comes to return on JetBlue spending or benefits. However, those who aren't able to fly JetBlue regularly may not get enough value from this card to justify the annual fee.

Related: The best credit cards with annual fees under $100

Bottom line

Even if you only fly JetBlue occasionally, you'll make up for two-thirds of the JetBlue Plus Card's annual fee by taking advantage of the 5,000-point anniversary bonus alone. With the additional JetBlue perks like the free checked bag, points rebate and inflight purchase savings, JetBlue flyers will almost certainly benefit from this card.

However, if you don't think you would benefit from the higher earning rate or p, perks such as the free checked baggage allowance, you might want to stick to the no-annual-fee JetBlue Card.

And you’re eligible for up to 2 claims per 12-month period.

However, if you use any certificates, vouchers, frequent flyer points, etc. for part of your trip, you’ll still be covered as long as you pay the remaining portion (like taxes & fees) with your eligible Barclaycard credit card!

What’s Considered a Trip Delay?

According to Barclaycard, you will be reimbursed for travel expenses, up to $300 per trip , if you are kept waiting for 6+ hours  for any of the following reasons:

This is a great addition to these cards.  But keep in mind, there are cards with much better travel insurance coverage, like:

  • Chase Sapphire Preferred – If your trip is delayed for 6+ hours , you could be reimbursed for up to $500 per ticket for reasonable expenses (meals, lodging, toiletries, medication, and other personal use items)
  • Citi Prestige –  If your trip is delayed for 3+ hours , you could be reimbursed for up to $500 per ticket for reasonable expenses (meals, lodging, toiletries, medication, and other personal use items)

The coverage is much higher with these cards.  While the new Barclaycard benefit covers $300 per TRIP , these cards cover $500 per TICKET .

Plus, both of these cards earn bonus points for travel purchases.  You’ll earn 2X Chase Ultimate Rewards points with the Chase Sapphire Preferred , and 3X   Citi ThankYou points with the Citi Prestige .

Check out my post on which card has better travel protection !

Bottom Line

Barclaycard has added trip delay insurance to their World Elite Mastercards, like the Barclaycard Arrival Plus and the Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator Red.

You’ll get up to $300 per trip in reimbursed travel expenses when you’re delayed 6+ hours, for reasons like inclement weather or airline equipment failure.  This is good news for folks who like to book airfare with Barclaycard Arrival miles.  Because there used to be NO trip delay coverage.

However, there are still cards with much better trip delay insurance, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Citi Prestige .  So use one of those if you can!

Barclays Announces JetBlue Plus Credit Card Referral Offer, Earn up to 50K Points (Share Links in Comments)

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your weekend is going well.  Barclays sent out emails today to cardholders of the Barclays JetBlue Plus Credit Card (referral link) announcing a new referral offer where you can earn 10,000 JetBlue TrueBlue Points per referral, up to 50,000 points per calendar year.  If you have this credit card, check your email for this offer (it may be targeted).  If you didn’t receive the email, you can still log into your Barclays online account and see if you are eligible for this referral offer.  If you want to share your JetBlue Plus Credit Card referral link, please post your referral link in the comments section for other readers to use.

Here are the terms and conditions of the referral program, from the bottom of the email:

Existing JetBlue Plus Card cardmembers will receive 10,000 points for up to 5 friends who apply for a JetBlue Mastercard using the personalized referral link by July 1, 2024 (“Promotion End Date”) and are approved. A maximum of 50,000 points can be earned through this offer per calendar year. To be eligible to receive bonus points, the cardmember’s account must be open, active, and in good standing until points are awarded. Bonus points may take up to 6-8 weeks from July 1, 2024 to appear on your statement. Cardmembers understand and agree that any individuals referred must be a new customer and must apply through the personalized link shared through social media or text message for you to receive the points. By sending this link via text message, you are confirming that you, as an existing cardmember, have consent to send text messages to each recipient. This offer is available only to applicants who are residents of the United States, with the exception of the US territories. Due to the confidential nature of the credit approval process, cardmembers will not be notified of application status, or whether we approve or decline any application(s) from any individual(s) you refer. Only the cardmember intended to receive this email will receive points. Any points will not be awarded on any application that results from a forwarded email. We reserve the right to alter, change or terminate the referral program at any time without notice. The total rewards you may earn from all programs and/or offers from Barclays associated with any product(s) you may have (including but not limited to, Barclays credit card(s), personal loan(s), and deposit account(s) may qualify as miscellaneous income and could require Barclays to send you a Form 1099-MISC (Miscellaneous Income) and file it with the IRS for the year in which you participate and are awarded rewards from any program(s). The cardmember is responsible for any applicable taxes or tax liability; if you have any questions regarding the contents of Form 1099-MISC or how it may affect your taxes, please consult with a personal tax advisor. We reserve the right to disqualify or terminate any cardmember from participation in the referral program in the event of fraud, abuse of program privileges, or violation of the Terms as determined at our discretion, which may result in the forfeiture of any accumulated referral bonuses. Account closure or suspension may result in the loss of any referral bonuses that haven’t been applied to your account.

If you are targeted for the referral offer, you can find your referral link by signing into your Barclays online account, selecting your JetBlue Plus Credit Card, clicking the Offers tab, and then clicking the Select Offer link for the Referral Offer.

Here is your JetBlue Plus Credit Card referral link.  Any referrals you earn by July 1 will post to your JetBlue account 6-8 weeks after July 1.  The terms and conditions above state that you may receive a 1099-MISC tax form from Barclays, so keep that in mind.
