Muchalinda Lake acquires the name after Shesh Naga or the Snake King Muchalinda who protected Buddha during a storm while he was into the sixth week of meditation. The hot springs are considered to possess medicinal properties. Among the hot springs, Brahmakund spring is the hottest and has a temperature of 450 Celsius . 6. Buxar Fort

8. Hieun Tsang Memorial Hall

This was the place where Hieun Tsang learnt yoga under the guidance of Acharya Shil Bhadra . The famous traveler has thrown light on medieval India and Nalanda, which are found in the memorial hall.

9. Jalmandir Temple

Jalmandir Temple is situated in the middle of a lake, which is full of lotuses. King Nandivardhan , who was the elder brother of Lord Mahavira is said to have constructed the temple. The temple is in the shape of a Vimana . The place where Lord Mahavira attained Samadhi and the place he was cremated are marked in the temple. The 600 ft long bridge made of stone connects the temple to the banks of the pond.

10. Patna Museum

Patna Museum was constructed in 1917 . The building is a blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture, it is one of the most popular places in Patna . The museum houses archaeological objects, paintings, sculptures and images by artists belonging to Hinduism and Buddhism. The museum also has a 200 million old fossil of a tree. I have been to Nalanda, Bodh Gaya, And other places around including Rajgir; You feel so relaxed and passionate too. It was in 2000 when I visited. Planning again to visit with my parents.

Nalanda University

Established during the 5th century AD, Nalanda university is considered to be the first residential university in the world.  The University is located in the town of Rajgir, and it has played a prominent role in the world by proving that India has contributed to imparting knowledge. The profound knowledge of the teachers of Nalanda attracted many scholars from different parts of the world such as China, Korea, Japan, Tibet , Mongolia, Sri Lanka , and Southeast Asia. 

Lord Buddha himself was a teacher here too. A lot many records have been left by these scholars about the ambiance, architecture, and learning at this unique university. Some of the most detailed accounts have come from a Chinese scholar known as Xuan Zang, who carried back many scriptures with him which were later translated into Chinese. The entire University is built in Kushana style of architecture and over a period of time this University has gained popularity across the globe and many tourists come to Bihar just to get a glimpse of this place.

Buxar in Bihar is a small town which is located in the banks of the Ganga and is one of the most important and prominent towns. There are a lot of tourist spots here that have either a mythological, historical, or religious significance to it. One such spot is the Buxar fort which was constructed in 1054 AD by King Rudra Deo and is definitely one of the famous places to visit in Bihar. 

This place catches the attraction of a lot of people who admire the architecture as the cravings that are found in the fort offers amazing views and the construction of the fort is totally outstanding. Apart from the fort, a few nearby places that also catch the attention of tourists are the Gauri Shankar Temple and Nath Baba Temple.

Navlakha Palace

Navalakha palace also called the Naulakha Palace is situated in the town of Rajnagar near Madhubani and was built by Rameshwar Singh, the younger brother of Darbhanga Maharaja, between 1884 and 1929 to serve as the Darbhanga Raj’s administrative capital. In 1934 the palace was heavily destroyed due to an earthquake and since then it was never rebuilt after. 

This palace complex is spread across a total area of 1,500 acres, and there are 11 temples and several forts and palaces. It’s is said that the oldest surviving Madhubani painting which was done in 1919 is found in the Gasauni Ghar (the room where the family deity is kept) of this Palace. Apart from the history of the place, it’s the construction of the palace that attracts tourists from all over the world all year round. 

It’s said that almost up to 22 layers of carving were used in the construction of the palace with a maximum of 15 layers. If not yet then you must definitely put this place in your bucket list as it’s one of the best places to visit in Bihar.

Valmiki National Park

For those who are also into Wildlife, Bihar has got some amazing national parks to visit such as the Valmiki National Park. The park is located on the India-Nepal border, adjacent to the Chitwan Park and is the only national park in the state. The park was established in the year 1999 and is home not only to a wide variety of flora and fauna but also Tigers, Fishing cats, Deer, Blackbucks, Wolves, Sloth bears, Nilgai, Cheetal, One-horned Rhinoceros, Indian Bison, Hyenas, Jungle cats, Rhesus monkey, Elephants, etc.

Barabar Caves

One of our favorite places in Bihar is the Barabar caves which are the oldest surviving rock-cut caves in India. They are believed to be dated back to the Mauryan Empire. There are four caves on the Barabar Hill, namely Lomas Rishi Cave, Sudama Cave, Karan Chaupar, and Visva Zopri. Barabar caves are one of the oldest caves in India, and some of them even have Ashokan inscriptions on them. 

Most of the caves are Buddhist caves, but you can also find Jain and Hindu sculptures here. The construction of these rock-cut structures will definitely take you back to the Mauryan Empire.

Jalmandir Temple

The Jalmandir Temple is made of marble and is situated in the middle of a lake teeming with lotus. This is why it is known as the Jalmandir Temple (Water Temple). It is a major pilgrimage spot for the Jains and also marks as the spot where Lord Mahavira was cremated in Pawapuri. The museum is a blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture and one of the best in Patna. The museum possesses ‘Relics Casket of Buddha’. It was procured from Vaishali, from the earliest earthen Stupa built by the Lichchavies immediately after the death of Buddha during 600 BC. This is among the most valuable collections of the Patna Museum.

Lying on the left side of the famous Mahabodhi Temple, the Bodhi Tree is considered to be a Central Symbol In Buddhism. Also known as the Bo tree, the Bodhi tree is the sacred tree under which Lord Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment. Before attaining enlightenment, Buddha meditated under this tree for more than a month. The Bodhi Tree present here today is believed to be the fifth succession of the original tree. The tree is encircled by intricately carved votive stupas, a number of Buddha statues, and chaityas. On your visit to this place, you can find many Buddhist monks sitting under the Bodhi tree, meditating or reading. The Takht Sri Patna Sahib i s a gorgeous, sprawling gurudwara, built on the banks of the Ganges in honour of Shri Guru Gobind Singh. The gurdwara was built in the 18th century by Maharaja Ranjit Singh as a symbol of respect and devotion to his guru. This majestic shrine with its striking white façade is one of the holiest and most sacred places to visit in Bihar. Mahabodhi Temple, Bodh Gaya

The Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya is perhaps the most important Buddhist temple in the world. It is built on the exact spot where it is believed that Gautama meditated and attained moksha and became the Buddha. The magnificent temple has been constructed to honour this moment in history, while keeping a Bodhi tree under which the Buddha sat, intact beside the temple. The Mahabodhi Temple is 55 metres high and is built over an area of 4.8 hectares. The original version of this temple was built by King Ashoka, which has since been replaced with a bigger, more intricate structure. You can see a beautiful golden statue of the Buddha inside, made entirely of black stone. Glass Floor Bridge, Rajgir

One of the most exciting architectural marvels coming up in Bihar is the Glass-Floor Bridge, a massive skywalk whose specialty is its transparent floor. The bridge is supposed to be around 85 feet in length and 6 feet wide. The bridge is being constructed in the midst of five picturesque hills in the Rajgir area of Bihar.

Up to 40 tourists can be accommodated on the bridge at the same time, who can observe the surrounding natural beauty through the clear glass floor and the surrounding open spaces on the bridge. Vishnupad Temple, Gaya

As its name suggests, the majestic Vishnupad Temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Vishnu and houses a 40 cm long footprint of the Lord, which is sheltered by a silver plated basin. This footprint signifies the act of the Lord subduing Gayasur into the surface of the earth by placing his feet on his chest. Inside the Vishnu Temple, you can also find several other shrines, dedicated to Lord Phalgwisvara and Lord Narasimha. Built back in 1787, Vishnupad Temple is one of the most important places of worship for the Hindus in Gaya and one of the many famous places to visit in Bihar. Architecture: - The 30 meters high Vishnupad Temple features 8 rows of carved pillars that support the pavilion. - This east-facing octagonal temple is made of huge blocks of grey granite attached together by iron clamps. - The 100 meters tall pyramidal tower features sloping sides with alternately plain and indented sections that are set in such a way that they make for an array of peaks joined at the top.

Jal Mandir, Pawapuri

Located in Pawapuri, the Jalmandir is dedicated to Lord Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara, and is a very important pilgrimage destination for the Jains. Solitaired, an online gaming platform that creates classic games — like Solitaire — with a focus on improving mental acuity, memory and processing speed.  

In March 2024, Solitaired "analyzed 66.7 million Google reviews of 3,290 popular tourist attractions worldwide , spanning 384 cities across 71 countries.

"We focused our analysis on keyword mentions indicative of a bored tourist. Those keywords were "boring," "bored," "bore," "boredom," "tiresome," "dull," "drab," "lackluster," "lifeless," "mediocre," and "tedious.

"We ranked the attractions by the frequency with which tourists mentioned boredom-related keywords, comparing the mentions to the total reviews for each spot."

Attractions with fewer than 2,000 total reviews were removed.

But it's a great big world out there, full of hidden gems and lesser-traveled locales. So, redditor u/Hot-Vegetable3827 asked, "Which not-so-popular country is a must-visit?" "hydra, greece. my wife and i just took a long greek honeymoon. one island we really liked that isn't as well known as santorini and mykonos was hydra. in fact, it was probably our favorite island. there isn't much to do or see there, but it was very laid back and chill. it was basically a vacation from our vacation, which we needed after a couple of busy days of sightseeing in athens and before we went partying in mykonos. there aren't any cars on the island, only donkeys, and it's very walkable and small.".

The capital, Valletta, is beautiful, and there are also two smaller islands called Gozo and Comino that you can visit. There's also extensive public transport, so it's easy to get around if you don't drive. I can't recommend it enough if you're the sort of person who's into exploring history, food, and culture."

When most people think about traveling to Japan, they think of Tokyo, but Sapporo is much less touristy, the mountains around the city are incredibly beautiful, and the food is to die for. A scenic hour-long bus ride takes you to the old city of Otaru, best known for its glass-blowing industry and beautiful canals. The subway system is amazing, and the people are friendly and helpful. I've been to a few places in my travels, but Sapporo stands out as the best so far. We already vowed to go back someday."

Conde Nast named this MA island one of the best places in the world to travel to this May

There's an option, and one that just so happens to be a favorite spot of President Joe Biden.

Conde Nast Traveler recently released its list of the 13 best places in the world to travel in May, and a popular New England destination made the list, alongside places like Zambia, the Cyclades, and Sicily.

May, they said,  "is one of our favorite times to roam the world because the weather is usually ideal no matter where you go—whether in the Northern Hemisphere or the Southern, and the crowds are much thinner than during the summer months when most families and their kids are off for holidays."

What New England spot landed on the Conde Nast Traveler list?

Nantucket was ranked at number five for the best places in the world to travel in the month of May, according to Conde Nast Traveler.

Why did Conde Nast Traveler say this destination is great in May ?

The Conde Nast Traveler website stated, "So much more than just a summer town,  Nantucket  is a beauty in every season. But there are a few perks to visiting in May - namely, beating the summer influx of tourists. You won’t have to dodge quite as many crowds as you bike and sail your way around the island, and you can score some unobstructed views of the three million daffodils that bloom here in late April and early May."

If you go to Nantucket in May, Condé Nast recommended adding the following to your itinerary:

• Eat seafood at the many restaurants on the island.
• Try the oysters at  Cru  (open for the season in May) or Atlantic halibut at  Dune .

The following are facts from the Nantucket Historical Association:

• While it's a tourist destination now, in the beginning sheep had the run of the island. "At the beginning of English settlement on Nantucket , most of the island was one unfenced common for the grazing of livestock, mainly sheep."
• It used to be that people used the moon to predict the weather. "In the days before modern weather forecasting, Nantucketers anticipated bad weather around the time of an underground moon. The  Inquirer and Mirror ’s 12-month calendar not only indicated the phases of the moon throughout each month but the dates on which an underground moon would occur. "
• Collecting seaweed is a right of the townspeople. "In 1904 a committee making recommendations for the management of the Cliff Bathing Beach included: 'The right to collect seaweed from the beach, subject to the direction of the Cliff Bathing Beach Commissioners, shall be reserved to the town’s people.'"
• "The first golf course was the Nantucket Golf Course on the north shore along Cliff Road." It was built in 1897, with a permanent clubhouse being built in 1899.
• One of the first industries on Nantucket  was silk, with the whaling industry taking off later that century.
