This was a perfect mother-daughter trip at the right time of year to avoid crowds. All of our drivers and tour guides were awesome! The accommodations were likewise wonderful. Communication with our tour company was great and any last-minute changes were taken care of, so we had no worries. We had nearly daily contact from the company, whose staff checked in with us before and during our trip. Our itinerary had a good balance of planned activities and free time, with lots of good suggestions from our tour guides. The company worked cooperatively with us in planning and replanning our itinerary over the course of nearly nine months! So flexible! This is the fourth trip we've booked with a Zicasso travel agent and it was another success. We worked with our travel team and could not be happier with the experience. We had originally planned a Croatia-only trip, but expanded it to include Slovenia and day trips to Bosnia Herzegovina (BH) and Montenegro. These were areas we had no experience with and relied on our travel team's recommendations. There are several aspects to a successful trip: locations, hotels, activities, and organization, and all were well planned. First, we are so glad we added the three countries, especially Slovenia, which was spectacular. Every hotel was great and in line with what we like. In addition, the room choices were good, with upgrades to suites and rooms with views and great balconies. Ours was a two-week trip with activities scheduled for almost every day, including guides and five wine tastings. Every guide was fantastic and the wine visits amazing. We were especially surprised and delighted by the high-end and modern winery in Mostar, BH. The area’s wines are very good. Every aspect of the trip was organized. Our agent sent me 37 different vouchers for each of our hotels, drivers, guides, and activities. I can't recommend her enough.

Zicasso’s travel company helped us plan and make land arrangements for our trip to Berlin, Prague, Chesky Krumlov, the Wachau Valley, Vienna, and Budapest. We had different needs for the areas we visited based on friends and family we planned to see, tour guide requests, accommodations we needed our travel agent to book, one place we wanted to book ourselves, and car and train transportation between destinations. The arrangements were not straightforward, but our travel agent was flexible. He came through and everything went beautifully as we navigated our itinerary. We had a fabulous time in Central Europe and are very appreciative of our travel team's efforts. Most important to us was the quality of our tour guides, their knowledge of history and culture, storytelling abilities, and enjoyable personalities. Our agent delivered beautifully on our requests for outstanding tour guides, especially in Prague, the Wachau Valley, and Budapest. In Prague and Budapest, we had seven-hour walking tours that were truly wonderful and memorable. Another of our agent’s strengths was recommending charming and comfortable boutique hotels. Highlight hotels he recommended were in Kreuzberg, Berlin, near our friend's home; the one in Prague with the adjacent, gorgeous, UNESCO World Heritage garden; and the one in Vienna. Finally, our travel team remained available to us by text message throughout our trip, answering any questions that came up and being a fun travel partner throughout our travels.

If you are already daydreaming of empty beaches or clean mountain air, now is the time to book your holiday. Travel agencies are the most time-efficient way of booking a trip, so we have looked into what Prague has to offer.

There are 134 agents registered in Prague, and most have some help for English speakers. It is wise to bear in mind that agencies provide a service which their clients pay for, and it is rarely cheaper to book a package through an agent than to buy flights and accommodation separately, either through an agent or direct from airlines and hotels. If you do decide to book separately through an agent, remember that in most cases agencies only provide insurance, helplines and support abroad for clients who have booked packages, not those who have booked separately, so remember to get your own insurance (pojištění) – available through most agencies. Agency websites often provide cheaper options than are promoted in brochures, so be sure to check online before booking in-house. Last minute offers can be good, but sometimes there are hidden costs and the price advertised on the main page is usually for one cheap week among twenty offered. Even if you speak no Czech, do not discount using Czech language travel websites. They tend to be well laid out and with the help of an online translation service not difficult to use. Although some agents are helpful, poor customer service is the norm. Allow plenty of time for visiting agencies, queues are long and customers are regularly expected to wait while agents answer phones or catch up on paperwork.

Blue Style a. s. ( www.blue-style.cz ), a Czech travel agency established in 1997, is one of the biggest independent subjects on Czech market specializing in flight trips to seaside resorts. Their offer spans from popular tourist destinations such as Egypt, Greece, Tunisia or Turkey to more exotic destinations and also offer sightseeing trips and cruises. Families with the small children can choose from the selection of the hotels with Croco Club. Holiday can be booked online or by visiting one of 10 offices located in Prague and other 50 throughout all Czechia. You can also choose to contact them via direct message on Facebook. You’ll have a better chance with English in the more central offices of Prague.

Čedok The oldest and biggest Czech travel agency spans the market, with luxury yacht cruises at one end and bus tickets at the other. There is an English website for tourists travelling to the Czech Republic ( www.cedok.com ) but the website for tourists travelling from the Czech Republic is only in Czech. Catalogues are also in Czech, and can be picked up from the offices or ordered online. Unlike most other agencies, Čedok promotes low-price accomodation in-house, and their catalogue “Tuzemské pobyty“ contains cheap Czech breaks. Branch offices have a currency exchange desk and a last minute bureau (available online at http://www.cedok.cz/Last-minute/ ). Service is variable, and be warned that even the central offices often do not all employ English-speaking agents – for instance the Václavské náměstí office does, but Rytírská does not.

Exim Tours The focus is on sun-chasing, and resorts are located in UAE, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Tunisia and Egypt. Most hotels are 3-5 star and in large resorts. There are discounts for early-bookers, a loyalty scheme that awards 5% off a second visit, discounts (starting at 3%) for groups of more than eight, and up to two children can go free to many resorts. On last-minute deals children travel for 4,990 CZK. The website is in Czech only.

Fischer One of the bigger agencies, with 12 offices to choose from in Prague ( www.fischer.cz ). Fischer specializes in high-end resort holidays to coastal areas. Supervised children´s clubs (‘Funtazie´ Clubs) in the resorts offer Czech language childcare for under-16s. Although brochures and the website are only in Czech and Slovak, the central offices have English-speaking staff. You can also use the website to book flights and accommodation; the website links up to more than 20,000 hotels worldwide and there are cheaper options online than in the brochures. Some reasonable last-minute deals can also be found. Because of a clever marketing gimmick whereby children booked into the Funtazie club this August are given a playstation as a ‘gift´, family summer holidays are almost sold out, so book fast.

GTS covers cheaper options and is popular with students. There is also an easy-to-use English language website ( http://en.gtstravel.cz/ ) which allows price-comparison on flights. The central office on Ve Smečkách has the world-weary pokiness of a school staffroom and at 800 CZK the commission charged on flights booked in-house is double what you pay on the website, so consider booking from home.

This was an excellent tour and the customer service from Wise Yatra was outstanding. We were upgraded to (European) 4 star hotels, there was a What'sApp phone call to review our itinerary before the trip, our agent kept checking in with us during the trip, it was amazing.

It was an excellent package for this tour! You thought of everything: pickup from the airport and back, 4 star hotels, train tickets from city to city, rides and walking tours. You even had suggested metro trains to take! It was filled with must see sites, and yet gave us enough free time to do our own activities. It has been one of our most enjoyable trips! The food was average. Unlike other Croisieurope tours I have taken in the past. The tour director in the 2nd ship was not as friendly or informative as the 1st ship. The staff on both ships were amazing!

They mostly succeeded in accommodating me as the only english speaker on March-April 2019 cruise. Slightly disappointed by the itinerary - We cruised during daytime hours on at least 3 days; The Berlin excursion was terrible (too few stops, not enough time). Hoped for more regional cuisine. The boat itself was awesome and the staff was terrific, although one person on the cruise director's team snapped at a guest in Prague (he was frustrated with the tour guide and took it out on the guest). Got a great tip from the cruise director about an alternate excursion that he figured (correctly) would be to my liking.

Our tour was July 11 to 19, 2023, Prague to Vienna. I was incredibly disappointed with the two major components of our self guided tour, our accommodations, and my bike. I realized that my bike was in poor condition on the first day after our driver unloaded it and drove off--no bike fitting as stated, the rear reflector was a piece of red tape, and I was given a thin yellow strap to use. The helmet was well used and the back light didn't work. I could only navigate with 3 gears, my chain keep coming off, and the brakes were loud and I felt unsafe. Roadside assistance was slow and when I did hear back from our Ave contact hours later, hopeful he would be of assistance, he was still trying to find a bike mechanic for the following day, ugh, the following day! It was 32 degrees and we needed to be on the road early. I ended up tracking down a bike mechanic on my own, paid him in cash, and still had to chance gears and brake slowly and carefully. Our rooms were purported to be three star, however, they were substandard and one inn had us in the attic with no windows that could be opened and it was a heatwave. Our return transfer driver was organizing other work and was texting and driving for the 50 minute freeway trip, unsafe and unprofessional. Marianne

I have done self-guided cycling trips in 6 different countries and have never had any issues. However, UTracks was terrible. They subcontract to AVE Travel. 1. Bike not properly tuned up upon delivery and AVE Travel was not responsive in helping us find a bike repair shop along the way. 2. Accomodation was substandard or poorly located. For example, In Cesky Krumlov, we stayed in a small run down building located on a street with boarded up buildings. The tiny rooms were located in the attic with a small window that did not open in 30 degree C temperature. Another town, we were put up outside of the city centre in a truck stop. 3. They changed our itinerary with no explanation. The trip we booked and paid for clearly included an overnight stop at Vranov. However, we were shunted off to a much smaller village of Bitov 4 kms away where there is nothing of interest. The hotel was particularly grim. Hotel Bitov is run down and filthy. The toilet seat in my room was cracked and stained, the rugs were infested with dead bugs and curling at the edges. The drapes were coated with heavy dust that spread into the room when closed. Why was our itinerary changed? To add insult to injury, when we emailed UTracks with our concerns, we heard NOTHING back. All they are interested in is booking the trips with no concern for the comfort and safety of their riders.

Loved the weekend in Prague. My buddy and I did it in December when there was Christmas markets going on. Really cool time to be there and Prague is just a super cool, beautiful city. Guide and tours were good as was the boat cruise and then especially the beer tour they include with pilsner tasting (included). We booked the private hotel room option and it was centrally located and comfortable.

Russian missiles slam into a Ukraine city, killing 17 people

Three Russian missiles slammed into a downtown area of the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv on Wednesday, hitting an eight-floor apartment building and killing at least 17 people, authorities said.

At least 61 people, including three children, were wounded in the morning attack, Ukrainian emergency services said, as rescue workers searched through partially demolished buildings and tall mounds of rubble. Chernihiv lies about 90 miles north of the capital, Kyiv, near the border with Russia and Belarus, and has a population of around 250,000 people.

The latest Russian bombardment came as the war has stretched into its third year and approaches what could be a critical juncture. A lack of further military support from Ukraine’s Western partners increasingly leaves it at the mercy of the Kremlin’s bigger forces.

Ukrainians contemplate the once unthinkable: Losing the war with Russia

Could Ukraine lose the war? Once nearly taboo, the question hovers in Kyiv, but Ukrainians believe they must fight for their lives against Putin’s troops.

Through the winter months, Russia made no dramatic advance along the 620-mile front line, focusing instead on attritional warfare. However, Ukraine’s shortage of artillery ammunition, troops and armored vehicles has allowed the Russians to gradually push forward, military analysts say.

A crucial factor is the holdup in Washington of approval for an aid package that includes roughly $60 billion for Ukraine. House Speaker Mike Johnson said Sunday that he would try to move the package forward this week.

Ukraine’s need is acute, according to the Institute for the Study of War, a Washington-based think tank.

“The Russians are breaking out of positional warfare and beginning to restore maneuver to the battlefield because of the delays in the provision of U.S. military assistance to Ukraine,” the institute said in an assessment late Tuesday, adding that “only the U.S. can provide rapidly and at scale.”

Ukraine received some good news Wednesday from Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, who said his country has secured 500,000 artillery shells for Ukraine from countries outside the European Union. The first shells are due for delivery in June.

The 27-nation EU promised a year ago to send Ukraine 1 million artillery shells, but the bloc was unable to produce that many.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has pleaded with Western countries to provide more air defense equipment, including more surface-to-air Patriot guided missile systems. He said the Chernihiv strike “would not have happened if Ukraine had received enough air defense equipment and if the world’s determination to counter Russian terror was also sufficient.”

Zelensky told PBS in an interview broadcast earlier this week that Ukraine recently ran out of air defense missiles while it was defending against a major missile and drone attack that destroyed one of Ukraine’s largest power plants, part of a recent Russian campaign targeting energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba repeated Zelensky’s appeal as he prepared to attend a Group of Seven foreign ministers’ meeting in Italy.

Ukrainian forces are digging in, building fortifications in anticipation of a major Russian offensive that Kyiv officials say could come as early as next month.

Ukraine is using long-range drone and missile strikes behind Russian lines which are designed to disrupt Moscow’s war machine.

Russia’s defense ministry said a Ukrainian drone was shot down over the Tatarstan region early Wednesday. That’s the same area that was targeted in early April by Ukraine’s deepest strike so far inside Russia, about 745 miles east of Ukraine.

Ukrainian officials say first responders who arrived at the scene of a Russian missile attack in Odesa were themselves struck by a second missile.

Ukrainian drone developers have been extending the weapons’ range.

Another Ukrainian drone was shot down over the Mordovia region, roughly 220 miles east of Moscow, the ministry said. That is 430 miles from the Ukrainian border.

About an hour before the Mordovia attack, Russia’s civil aviation authority halted flights at airports in two of the country’s largest cities, Nizhny Novgorod and Tatarstan’s Kazan, because of safety concerns.

Also, unconfirmed reports said a Ukrainian missile struck an airfield in occupied Crimea. Neither Russian nor Ukrainian officials confirmed the strike, but local authorities temporarily closed a road where the airfield is located. Russian news agency Tass quoted the local mayor as saying windows in a mosque and a private house in the region were shattered in a blast there.
