Great service, fast and fun

Posted by Unknown on Jun 10th 2022

The cruise ship let and arrived when it was supposed to. Shuttled you to the hotel and it’s easy to get pretty much anywhere on the island from there. The boat had comfortable inside seats with windows and also an outdoor deck area. They sell food/booze. Pricey but what can you do. It was super rough on our way out but can’t control Mother Nature. It was still fun. Smooth on the way home. Will def use this service again!

Amazing Trip - LOVE Bimini!

Posted by Unknown on Jan 21st 2019

We left on Dec 24th - and this is the only way to go! From check in at the Port of Miami - which was quick & easy - to hopping on the ferry and the great crew that took care of us - to the arrival in Bimini (we highly recommend arranging for a golf cart while on the ferry over) - to the incredible week visit we had & our return home - it couldn't have been better! We were there over the Christmas holiday. We both were concerned about getting sea sick so we planned ahead and started with our Dramamine the day prior. We heard that folks were ill because the water was rough due to the weather & wind - but we didn't have any issue. We did the same on the way back. Better to be prepared than not! And certainly the crew can't help the weather! So prepare yourself! The ferry ride there & back was really great. The return one being so dark out- wasn't much to see - but everything was seamless. We will never fly again when we can go this route. It was less stressful - more fun and we thoroughly enjoyed it!

Escaping to Bimini on the new Bimini SuperFast

The Resorts World Bimini SuperFast docked in Bimini.

ABOARD THE BIMINI SUPERFAST -- It doesn't take long for the party to get started on the Bimini SuperFast .

Even before the 1,500-passenger fast ferry sets sail from Fort Lauderdale, the music is blasting up at Club 360 -- the open-air dance floor and lounge at the top of the vessel. One deck down at the outdoor Bimini Breeze Cafe, a seven-piece band is getting ready to play.

It's just a couple hours after sunrise, and the bars at both locations already are taking drink orders, as is the bar at the indoor Paradise Lounge on Deck 8. Another deck down passengers already are scoping out slot machines at the Miami Casino, which won't open until 15 minutes after the ship's 9:00 AM departure.

Always wanted to visit Bimini in the Bahamas? The 10-deck-high Bimini SuperFast, a fast ferry that began operating day cruises to the destination last week from Fort Lauderdale, is the newest -- and surely the liveliest -- way to get there.

Completing the one-way trip in just three hours, the Bimini SuperFast offers vacationers a low-cost escape to the Bahamas for anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

Docking in North Bimini around noon, the Bimini SuperFast stays at the island for about six hours before making the return trip to Fort Lauderdale. Passengers can take a free shuttle to a nearby beach or to Alice Town, the closest thing to an urban center you'll find at the sparsely populated destination. Golf carts and kayaks are available for rent, and snorkeling, paddle boarding, jet skiing, parasailing and scuba diving also are options. There also are casinos -- both on and off the ship.

Built in 2001, the Bimini SuperFast originally sailed in the Adriatic for Greece-based Superfast Ferries under the name Superfast VI. In 2013, it was acquired by casino operator Resorts World, a division of Asia's Genting Group, which began operating it as a ferry to Bimini from Miami.

The vessel will continue to sail to Bimini from Miami on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The new day trips to Bimini from Fort Lauderdale will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The ship is taking Mondays off.

While most passengers for now are using the ferry for just a one-day escape, the schedule allows for a vacationer to spend a night or two in North Bimini before returning to Florida.

Resorts World has bought one of the few places to stay on the island -- the former Bimini Bay Resort, now renamed Resorts World Bimini -- and is selling packages for two that include a roundtrip ferry ride and a one-night, mid-week stay in a studio villa for $200, not including taxes and fees. Two-night stays start around $300. A current promotion for the ferry alone starts at $199 for up to four people.

Resorts World has grand plans for the resort. Already it has added a stylish, 10,000-square-foot casino, and it's in the midst of building an upscale, 305-room hotel that should be open by early 2015 as a Hilton. They've also added a modern marina, and million-dollar homes are in the works.

In addition to the new Fort Lauderdale to Bimini route, Resorts World this month also unveiled a new dock for the Bimini SuperFast right across from Resorts World Bimini, allowing for walk-on, walk-off access. Until now, passengers have had to tender ashore.

The Bimini SuperFast is a good-looking, well-maintained ferry that offers some of the feel of a cruise ship, if only for a few hours. There are two main restaurants that serve breakfast on the trip over to Bimini and dinner on the way back, and there also are several lounges as well as the casino and a separate sports book betting parlor.

In addition, there are more than 100 cabins on the vessel -- a throwback to when it sailed longer distances in the Mediterranean. Most offer two twin beds, a small desk and an en-suite bathroom with shower. Passengers can book them for the day to use for resting or freshening up (they're particularly popular on the return trip from Bimini, allowing passengers to clean up after a day at the beach).

Passengers looking to spend a day sunning on an open-air deck may be somewhat disappointed, as much of the top deck on the Bimini SuperFast is enclosed in glass -- another throwback to its days in the Mediterranean, where weather can be rough during the winter. Only a few small deck areas with lounge chairs are fully exposed to the sun.

There's also no pool on the Bimini SuperFast. Where one might expect one, at the center of the top deck, there instead is Club 360 -- the open-air entertainment zone that buzzes with a non-stop array of activities such as line dancing and a hula hoop competition. In addition to a DJ, there's a lively cruise director on hand to MC events, and a troupe of four sequined dancers.

Of course, some passengers just spend the entire crossing in the casino, which offers more than a dozen table games including blackjack and roulette. There are dozens of slot machines and, for high rollers, a private VIP room.

Just 53 miles east of Miami, Bimini long has been known as a hot spot for big game fishing. Ernest Hemingway famously spent several years holed up on Bimini fishing and writing, and the destination was a draw for Margaritaville singer Jimmy Buffett. But despite its proximity to the mainland USA (no other part of the Bahamas is closer), it has never been a major resort destination.

The expansion of Resorts World Bimini could change all that. But for now, it's still a relatively quiet escape. Fishing remains one of the big activities (charter trips can be arrange from the Resorts World Bimini marina), and a boat ride to the mangroves on the far end of North Bimini makes for a fun outing. The long, mostly undeveloped beach at the Resorts World Bimini property offers white sand and calm waters. Still, it's nothing you couldn't find back in Florida.

Then again, Florida isn't the Bahamas, and how often can you say you've been to another country and back in a day.

Resorts World Bimini SuperFast

Hello everyone, I hope you’re all doing well. Unlike my other reviews, I will start this one with a brief intro on the Company rather than myself. The reason that I am doing this is mainly because I have noticed that not many people are familiar with the product.

Bimini is the westernmost island of the Bahamas and the closest one to the continental USA. Being so close to the USA is a great asset for people looking for a quick getaway. As a matter of fact, I was told that there is a company running on wave runners from south Florida to Bimini. That would be an interesting adventure. Anyway, I am not entirely how old the actual resort is, but my guess is that it is rather new. As you will see in the review there is lots of construction going on the island and they are rapidly expanding. On June of 2013 they started running cruises from Miami to Bimini in a converted ferry that used to operate in Europe.

The ship itself is called Bimini SuperFast, and it can travel at 29 knots per hour. The crossing from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini is literally a straight line and in our case it took around 2:40. Very fast indeed, we were there before we knew it.

Like I said the company is currently expanding and they recently opened their casino, which by the way is mind blowing. The entire resort itself is spectacular, but I will let the pictures do the talking.

A company that is testing grounds

Resorts World seems to be struggling to appeal to the US market. Now this is just my guess, but let me explain why I am making this assumption. The company has been running day cruises from Miami for the past year. They recently added port Everglades to their port of departure, but due to a lack of sales they are already pulling out. Last I heard they are retreating back to Miami and they are not running daily cruises any more. Their new strategy is to run 2 to 3 day cruises. We will see how that works for them. But I would love it if they at least left one day a week for the daily cruises.

Our original plan was to do the day cruise on Thanksgiving day. Initially we had booked it for $160 per person (I know, very expensive. But I really wanted to try the company). Later on we heard of a promotion and the price went down to $100 per person. About 3 weeks before our sailing they called us and told us that they had cancelled our sailing. We were heartbroken, mainly because the next cruise that we can take will be in late March and we were really looking forward to this short getaway. The worst part is that they had no information on anything… Their sales personnel need to be better informed about the company.

So a heartbroken Gambee decided to post on a social network site about the cancellation. It was then that one of my friends on that site reminded me about the $25 veterans day sale, and the best part was both mom and I were off from work. When I told my mom, her eyes lit up, she could not believe it. After a short call we were booked on the cruise, oh, this all happened 2 days before the cruise. That is the officially the cruise that I have booked closest to the sailing date :D.

One thing to consider before I get started, is that I had very low expectations for this cruise. As a reviewer, I trust reviews blindly, and lets be honest the reviews for Bimini SuperFast were not the best. While I was very excited to go, I also had my reservations about the company. Another thing that somewhat puzzled me, was the lack of information on the internet. I tried looking for info, but everything was rather limited, with few info on the ship itself.

Bimini SuperFast Documents

Ok, let's get this party started! So how do I put this. While I was very excited to get on a cruise, I was however not crazy about having to wake up early to board. I usually wake up around 7:30, but I roll in bed for an hour or 2. You know how it goes. I was actually up by the time the alarm went off, so it wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be.

I told my mom that we should get some food before boarding the cruise. Like I said the information was rather limited and I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect. All the food aboard the vessel has a cost. So we stopped at Mc Donalds and kept on going to the terminal.

It was actually a tad chilly day, well at least for Florida standards. I remember being puzzled as to how to dress. I ended wearing jeans and bringing lighter clothes on my backpack. Once we got there I noticed that I was one of the few with jeans, but I did not regret my decision.

Driving to port Everglades we saw a beautiful sunrise. Sunrise and sunsets are very special to us. My grandmother used to love them and comment on them always. Seeing them is almost like a manifestation of her.

There were only two ships in port that day.

We decided to park in the port, while it was more expensive than the outside parking. It really did not justify itself the extra inconvenience just to save $7 for one day. Once we got to the parking lot we got our first good look of the ship. The ship was built in 2001.

Like I said the ship was not very large, but she is perfect for her purpose.

Keep in mind that for these short sailings there is no Muster procedures in place.

I remember seeing a TV documentary how one of these ferries sunk when the front hinges gave in and the entire bow of the ship open up. Of course, this was under really rough seas, I think it was in Europe. This was the first time that I actually saw a ferry in which the bow opens up. I don't think they open the one on this one any more though.

I have always loved the location of the port near the airport.

We headed inside the terminal and the check-in was a breeze, everything went really fast and without any issues. Once you checked in, you could continue directly and board the ship.

You board the vessel from the aft. I am not entirely sure why she registered in Panama and not Bahamas?

Once you board the ship, you encounter a B2B electric stairs.

They also give you a card, but it is not tied to a credit card. We paid everything with cash. The card is simply used to board the ship and disembark.

I will say the ship is nicely decorated, and it is kept in immaculate condition. I was actually very surprised since I was expecting something much different. Just a little reminder that this was veterans day so that is why they had balloons and flags.

We decided to tour the ship before it got too busy. One of the main complains on the reviews, was that it got so busy and you could not find a place to sit (Not the case on our almost full sailing). But either way we did not know that at the time. So my idea was to tour the ship and then find a location to settle down.

This is the double deck lounge area looking at the aft of the ship. Very popular place for people to relax and enjoy a drink or two.

They had a little table with gags to take pictures with.

Pink fedora group?

They have a few cabins aboard for those who want an area to put their belongings or shower after a day at the beach. I believe the rooms cost $50 for a day, but they go on sale if you rent them after you board from the island.

You can tour the ship quite quickly.

They have 2 main restaurants, the buffet and the regular service restaurant.

You can access the promenade, well I am not entirely sure you can call it it promenade. But in any case it is a nice area to get close to the water.

Despite the fact that this is a commercial, I really enjoy the information. :)

The casino runs the width of the ship and about 1/3 it’s length. Its your average casino, we never visited other than to get off the ship. They open the casino about 40 minutes after you sail out, at the 3 mile international waters marker.

This is the casino bar.

You see water stations throughout the ship.

As you go around you see the other restaurant which is a little more expensive, but you get full service.

The restaurant has a really nice ocean view, but there were several people there and I did not want to disturb with a picture. I get the picture later on, no worries.

Then you get to guest service area.

They didn't have the model ship available, I guess ill have to go without one, LoL.

This is the most reasonably priced bridge tour I have ever seen.

Since we had toured the inside of the ship, we decided to head upstairs and check out the rest. Oh, by the way, we never used an elevator on this cruise. You basically play with 4 decks and they are all connected.

The outside area is really nice, the wood is kept freshly maintained and very clean.

However the deck below was full of patches everywhere, maybe they were getting ready to paint over it?

By the way this is the dock of HAL and Carnival ships. Well, at least those are the ones that I usually see in there.

You could rent the paddle and balls. Remember, everything here is for a charge.

That is pretty much for that deck, it is just basically the aft bar and some seating area. That is where we stayed for the entire voyage, I loved the area.

Then we went up one deck and check out the main Lido deck area.

BillOh

Thanks for taking the time. This is one of those, I may never go, or I may extend another cruise someday. I am finding it interesting and am looking forward to the resort itself.

Cool Cruiser

Interesting indeed.

Finally tired of the newest fancy mega ships? :p

I too can't wait for beach, resort, and cabana pics/review.

Rough ride?

ETA; Talk about nickel and diming. :D

Never say never, the way this island is expanding I would not be surprised if it will be added to current cruise lines ittineraries.

Interesting indeed.   Finally tired of the newest fancy mega ships? :p   I too can't wait for beach, resort, and cabana pics/review.   Rough ride?   Thanks :)   ETA; Talk about nickel and diming. :D

LoL, not tired of mega ships, we were just looking for something fast for a day off. We are thinking of Regal Princess for our next in March.

The ship did move quite a bit!

Thanks for joining, glad you're enjoying the review.

Cute funnel.

Plenty of seating area.

And here is where all the events happen, they have a few activities like a normal cruise. They even have a cruise director in charged of all these. Oh, by the way, the crew here is just like the rest of the industry. They work long contracts. My mom spoke to one who used to work for NCL, and now is working here on a 8 month contract. She said that it was about the same, she did not prefer over the other. But my question is since they work for tips mostly and the ship rarely sails full, how are they making money?

Most of the people aboard were really nice, with no big issues. It was a mix of young families and groups of friends. A few older people as well. Everyone was there to have a good time.

These are from the top deck tour.

This is a first for me, having such close access to the bridge of a cruise.

Do you see the main sail of one of the sail Yachts? I have always seen it docked there, but this is the first time that I see the mainsail up. I was hopping that it was going to sail out, but I guess they were just doing maintenance routine. Ironically, last night I dreamt that I finally bought one, but I was going broke just maintaining it, lol.

So that’s about it folks, the entire tour of the ship in about 30 minutes. That said, the ship is very clean and well kept. It demonstrates the company that Resorts World Bimini aspires to be. I have nothing bad to say about our experience aboard the ship.

We decided to grab a nice place for our cruise to Bimini. I have always loved the aft of the ship, and we thought that one of the aft tables would be a great place to enjoy the quick trip.

Mom took her phone out and sent a few pictures to the family, I did the same and update social media status and whatnot. I was feeling a little sleepy, so my mom got me a Cuban coffee.

They only had one drink menu, here it is.

Great one day cruise!

To leave Miami at 9 am, enjoy great music, entertainment and good food for 3 hrs, arrive to a slow paced, no stress atmosphere with gorgeous beaches for a couple hrs and be back in Miami at 8 pm is a must-do for any metropolitan residents (being couples, families or group of friends). The cruise is clean, well-kept, neat staff and friendly captain (you can take your pic with him). Several choices of breakfast ($-$$-$$$), on deck live DJ show, humongous b'day cake for all b'days of the weekend, and a live band on the way back. You can dance the whole 3 hrs, you can play in the casino, you can sunbathe in the chaise longs or participate in games and contests. At Bimini island, you have a choice of bus transportation to places of interests or rent a golf cart and drive (best choice for me), find a delicious conch salad anywhere in the little island, take tons of pics and end up at the finest, whitest sand with the crystal clear blue water. For a couple hrs I felt in paradise (or back in my home town). However, be ready for the wait in line to get off the cruise at Bimini since they dock out and take you in smaller boat ashore and the long wait for Customs when you get back to Miami. Yes, Bimini is not USA so you will need passport or any other valid IDs.

This has to be the worst trip ive ever took. They didnt only lie to us and stole our money but they couldnt even accommodate us by giving conplementary things such as ; food, a cabin, drinks, water, towels anthything. This new ship is not worth it at all. They have the worse customer service everytime we asked to speak to a manager they did not care or bother to get help. They handed us a number to call, when we call they say the same thing thath they cannot refund not even half of the money. The day was beautiful there was people coming from miami to the bahamas that live there and they couldnt even bother to return those poor people that have nothing in miami and couldnt get off to their homes. They said the tides of the ocean were too high but the day was perfect. So they left us sitting infront of the island pretty much teasing us going in circles, stuck there from 10-7 . i paid 100$ to get off at bimini not to stay in a small boring ship, no pool, no games, NOTHING. All they offered was food for 25$ ofcourse more $$ to spend thats why they kept us there eventually we would get hungry or thirsty, some of us didnt even have a cabin to shower, mind you the boat was half empty with only like 50 people on it they said all cabins were full. LIARS, STEALERS, BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. do not go on this unless its free, waist of a sunday & of 1,000 dollars atleast between all of my family.

Since I had never been on a cruise before, I was pretty excited to go on this little adventure with my friends. I had no idea I was in for a rude awakening. We were in a large group most of the group had a suite. We spent over 2k on this trip. The day was beautiful and the water looked amazing. We were all very excited to go to the island. We took so many pictures. We got very close to Bimini and the water looked amazing. We then heard over the loud speaker that we will not be getting off the boat due to bad weather. Mind you there isn’t even a pool on this ship. We were stuck on the boat from 9:00am-7:30 pm. We complained and asked for a room so that we could at least shower and we weren't accommodated. The public bathrooms were disgusting. They're solution was telling us that they have dinner for us for $25.00 per person. The least they could've done was given us dinner or at least half off the trip. They didn’t do a thing for us. I tried to call my bank and get a refund and they couldn’t do anything for me. In conclusion, if you want to spend money on a trip where the food is overpriced, the service is terrible and you want to be lied then this is the trip for you. I can’t believe what a nightmare my Sunday turned into. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!

bimini superfast cruise

On May 4 I travel to bimini before we got on board were we're inform that the seas were a little ruff. When we got to Bimini the tenders went back into the cut to return to the resort. The captain never once drop the anchor to stop the boat from moving which would help with getting the people on and off the ship. Long story short. Myself and other Biminites returned back to Miami without a free hotel, ticket or anything. But on the other end the resort put up 250 people and flow them out of Bimini. This is what breaks my heart. There was a mother that lives in bimini that was on board she had spend her last on the ship. She had no place to sleep and no money. Instead of the staff assisting her they locked the building and left the mother and two kids out there by themselves. Dead phone,no money and no where to spend the night. Thank God for The Miami Dade police who put the lady and her kids in a hotel. Resort world you guys are wrong for this your customers come first, black, white,Chinese,Bahamian,Cuban etc..... Treat us all the same. Money has no color or heart. So in the future please remember that.

I didn't take this ship, but had the misfortune of taking the Resorts World Bimini Super Fast (super slow and awful) 2 weeks ago. We barely spent any rime on the island, they contstantly decrease rhe amount of time you will spend on rhe island the closer you get. They sound the same, poorly run, don't care about people. The island destination is the bait and switch while they sell you fare, food, drink, and water. We drive to islamorada all the time. You ARE BETTER OFF going anywhere down in the Keys. Less expensive, in control of your time, spend more time enjoying the destination. These ferry companies are deceptive tourist traps - are you a sucker? I didn't think so....

I had read about this ship and my lady friend Coleen surprised me with Groupon Tickets at a 2 for 1 price. Very glad we made the trip, we booked a Sunday in late April and the weather was just superb, calm sea, blue skies and a nice cooling breeze. Parking and checking in went very smoothly, we waited perhaps 2 minutes before a brief check in then on to the ship, though we did arrive at the dock at 7.30 as requested for a 9am departure. We were immediately impressed with the ship's décor, very pleasant and tasteful. This is a fairly big ship, a 32,000 ton ex car ferry built in Germany in 2001 apparently capable of carrying up to 1,300 passengers. I'm not going to comment on the food as we did not eat on board and other passengers have already reviewed the offerings, other than to say that there are 3 different choices to eat both breakfast and dinner. As we had an hour and a half drive to the ship from our home we had breakfast on the way at the home of the Golden Arches. It was pleasant to be told we had complimentary tea or coffee available on the Upper deck, which we relaxed with while waiting for departure. After an interesting trip down Government Cut past all the large cruise ships loading for their own departure we took off for Bimini. There is no real sensation of speed, but the ship is capable of nearly 30 knots so the trip to Bimini took just over 2 hours. Once at the Island, a tender took us from the moored ship to the landing area. I note that some people complain about this, but it's about a 40 minute trip and frankly was quite enjoyable. A deep water dock is being constructed on the Island to allow the ship to dock and is due to be completed this summer, which will allow passengers much more time on Bimini. Once on the island, there are 3 destination choices, the beach (not interesting to us as we live 3 minutes from Jupiter Island Beach, one of the nicest in South Florida), the new Resort World Casino with its restaurants and shops, or old Alice Town. We chose Alice Town, so we boarded a tram for the ride. Alice Town turned out to be basically a single street of shanties that look like they were badly hit by several hurricanes and have never really recovered. It does make one appreciate living in the United States. There are however a couple of restaurants and we had a nice lunch at an open air one called Big Johns, where we enjoyed good Conch Fritters and a not so good lobster sandwich (it arrived deep fried) and a couple of local Kalik beers. We had a good table overlooking the water and the little Marina there, so what's not to enjoy? Service was a bit slow due to all the passengers arriving at once, but, hey, man, we were in The Bahamas! Relax and slow down! After lunch, we visited the small Straw Market almost next door and bought a couple of gifts. The people there were very nice, not nearly such a hard sell as some other places we've visited. Next time (and there will be a next time) we'll check out the Casino, Alice Town is definitely a one time destination. Pretty soon it was time to return to the tender and then the ship, where our lunch carried us through until cocktail time, which we spent in the Casino, luckily winning enough at roulette to cover the trip! The only problem on the whole trip was the disembarkation. Although we entered Government Cut just after 7 it was close to 9 before we were able to get off the boat. Some of our fellow passengers were getting upset, but in fairness I don't think they realized that whether you are gone for a day or a year, getting back from a foreign country requires certain procedures involving both Customs and Immigration. Just because it's a day trip doesn't mean those procedures will go any faster. As somewhat experienced cruisers we anticipated these delays and passed the time sitting on chaises on the deck enjoying the cool evening breezes and reading the paperbacks I highly recommend taking along to help pass the time during the inevitable wait. Overall, a very pleasant day. The people on the ship were very helpful and friendly, certainly the weather helped, but we arrived back in port feeling we had had a highly enjoyable mini vacation. My advice? Get in gear with Island time, be prepared for inevitable waits, relax and enjoy! We did.

The Bimini SuperFast Starts Day Cruises to Bimini From Port Everglades

UPDATE : The Bimini SuperFast is no longer running out of Port Everglades. The ship now only departs from PortMiami.

It's 5:33 p.m. Bimini is at our backs now as dozens shuffle aboard the boat that brought us the roughly 50 miles that separates Florida's coast from the tiny island. We're about to make our way back to Port Everglades.

Before we're allowed back on the ship, we have to put on shirts and have our feet washed off with a hose wielded by an island employee who seems to be enjoying his job a little too much. The immediate protocol before boarding -- both in Fort Lauderdale and Bimini -- is to get your hands sprayed with a squirt bottle full of hand sanitizer by an impossibly cheerful Filipino employee.

Present your room key. Glide up the escalator. And you're back inside the floating entertainment center known as the Bimini SuperFast . Wave goodbye to the seven-mile-long, 700-foot island poking out of the Atlantic.

Let's take a step back for a moment, though, to the beginning. It all started this morning. Today was the inaugural voyage of Resorts World Bimini's Bimini SuperFast out of Port Everglades, an eight-hour day cruise to the island of Bimini in the Bahamas. The vessel (today sailing with around 600 out of a roughly 1,500 capacity) has been cruising to Bimini from the Port of Miami since 2013, but as of today, October 14, it added Fort Lauderdale departure dates for anyone looking to kill a Tuesday, Wednesday (don't we all want to kill Wednesday?), and Thursday. The day cruise costs $157.30 per person. Though if you buy one full-priced ticket, you can get up to three free, which is why the advertised price per person on their website is $49.50. Their competitors, the Baleària Group, will send you on a day cruise to Grand Bahama island from Port Everglades for $119 .

Before we shoved off, there was a morning ceremony held at Port Everglades terminal 21. In attendance -- bright and early (as she reminded us several times) -- was the Broward County mayor and face you've probably seen on a local Suburban -- Barbara Sharief. After a few other speeches, exchanged plaques, and smiles, we were ushered onboard the apple-red Bimini SuperFast .

Two squirts later, we were in the belly of the boat. The ship weighs in at 3,200 tons. It has six bars and restaurants and a casino inside. From nose to tail, it's 669 feet.

Describing a cruise ship to those poor land-locked souls who've never been on one is a difficult task. It needs to be experienced. It's like a hotel but swaying. Not just that, but there's this awareness of the ocean beneath you. It's clear on everyone's faces. Some wobble. Some stare out at the horizon, which, no matter how often you've seen it, never looks as pretty as it does from the top deck with a rum in hand. And some, well, some just get really drunk.

The cruise experience kind of makes you get pirates. Out on the open sea, rules seem insignificant. Why not chug a bottle of rum? You're in the ocean, bitch. Your cell phone won't work. Your Gmail account can go fuck itself. Even that dolphin the person next to you swears they saw? Fuck that dolphin, man. To quote Andrew Samberg, "I'm on a boat." Which oddly, wasn't played at all on the voyage (even more oddly, we heard Pharrell's "Happy" only once. Once !).

The Bimini SuperFast does feel, well, superfast. At least for its size. It chugs along at around 30 miles per hour, kicking up a soccer-field-sized white foam in its wake. When peering over the railing of the ship, it dawns on you just how terrible -- how lonely -- a death it would be to fall overboard. Luckily, no one did. Though New Times did toss an ice cube off the starboard side, you know, for science.

After some drinks -- gambling, if you prefer -- land peers over the horizon. From Fort Lauderdale to Bimini, the trip is about three hours long. We boarded around 9 a.m., rolled into port at Bimini at 11:58 a.m., and touched sandal to concrete at 12:11 p.m. After unboarding, we were put on a human centipede of a golf cart and driven to a designated Resorts World Bimini beach. Our deadline to be back at the boat was 5:45 p.m.

The beach in Bimini is beautiful. Even for a native South Floridian, it's impressively blue. Like if a Smurf had a baby with a sapphire. And clear too.

There were a few jellyfish drifting around the beach. "Fuck, dude. I got stung like eight times already. I'm done," one sailor complained as they bolted for shore. New Times heard no other jellyfish complaints throughout the day. Actually, we heard no other complaints at all.

One group of Norwegian college students on break from their university in Mexico could not think of one bad thing to say. When pressed if they had any complaints, they shook their heads no.

Bimini SuperFast guests and Fort Lauderdale natives Kit Steliaa and Arden Avedisian also had good things to say. "I think it's great. It's been fabulous," Avedisian gushed.

From the food to the cabins, Avedisian and Steliaa loved it all. They even got prime chairs on the deck facing the sun, which for them (self-described sun worshipers) was a must.

New Times did overhear a patron reading what sounded like negative Yelp reviews of the ship's restaurants, but if we had to write a review of said patron's personality, it would be negative as well, so that probably cancels out.

Overall, there weren't many unhappy campers. And it makes sense. A day cruise might be the perfect amount of time to spend on a boat. It's enough time to feel adventurous but short enough to not feel like a really nice floating prison.

Bimini is an interesting place. It was New Times ' first time there. The island is tiny. Like, Jameis Winston could probably throw a football from one side to the next (and then probably clean the place out of crab legs). There is a North Bimini and a South Bimini. We were on North Bimini. It's around seven miles in length and 700 feet wide.

The island is a postcard. And there's no shortage of concern as to whether it will stay that way. While the emergence of the SuperFast has brought tourists to Bimini at rates previously unimaginable, it has also drawn deep concern from some environmentalists and divided the some-2,000 locals as well.

Outside groups like Save Our Bays action group and Fabien Cousteau (grandson of the famed Jacques Cousteau) see Resorts World Bimini's rapid development of the island in a negative light.

There is much concern over the dredging of channels for incoming cruise ships and the damage it will cause Bimini's globally beloved reefs and endangered marine life. Resorts World Bimini does have the support of the local government (at least the ones that matter), and many locals see the island's new casino and resort as an opportunity for hundreds of potential jobs.

Others see it as a slow-moving and irreversible island tumor, one that will eventually kill everything about Bimini that makes it unique.

There is much history attached to Bimini. Ernest Hemingway was a frequent visitor. He wrote a novel, Islands in the Stream , that was based in Bimini. He got drunk and fished the beaches when Bimini was little more than a pit stop for rum runners.

What would he think of it now? Of the Americanized sports bars and five-star resorts? Of the many pastel upper-class vacation homes? Of the hundreds of tourists scooting across the island in golf carts? Of the SuperFast ?

He'd hate it. Unquestionably. He'd want to punch it. Granted, he'd probably feel the same way about Key West, another of his old stomping grounds.

So much money is being poured into the island's tourism market. Most recently, around $150 million for a new Resorts World Bimini 300-plus-room hotel slated to open in spring 2015. The island does feel like one big hotel at times. It's tough to find a Bahamian not in uniform. The parts of the island not owned by foreign companies, like Alice Town, Bimini's capital, are a sharp contrast from resort property. They are authentic, and -- at times -- a bit rundown. There are boarded-up houses, graveyards of abandoned boats, and scenes that are anything but luxurious.

"I love it. I get to meet so many interesting people," local waiter Lamar Wallace had to say about the island's influx of tourists.

It should be noted that Wallace was saying this in the face of an outstretched hand clutching a $5 tip.

The economy of the Bahamas has revolved around tourism for some time now and will no doubt continue to depend on it. Where exactly does the bulk of that money go, though? To foreign companies. The hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, and resorts. By the time the wealth trickles down to the true locals, it probably feels like an ice cube tossed from the top deck of a cruise ship.

That, however, is not the concern of the 600 SuperFast passengers perusing the still-picturesque island. Their concern? Fun. And dammit, they are having plenty of it.

Around 5 p.m., the island starts to clear. Literally. It's eerie. Hundreds flock back to the boat, show their room keys, pass metal detectors, and hit the restaurants -- which, despite those whisperings of snarky Yelp reviews -- are pretty darned good.

People are hungry, sunburnt, drunk, and decidedly less rowdy than on the way to Bimini. It could be because it's a slightly older crowd sailing on this particular Tuesday. Snowbird season is in its fetal stages, and spring break is still a ways away.

After a couple more hours, we dock back in Fort Lauderdale around 9:10 p.m. One more winding line through customs and we're back on American soil.

So what about the cruise? This blog got a bit long-winded and veered off-topic, but let's blame it on the lingering effects of a clock-less island paradise.

It's fun. It's really fun. It's a hell of a way to kill a day. There aren't many other opportunities to embark for another country at 9 in the a.m., spend five hours gallivanting around, and be back before bedtime. You'll spend some money, but you'll spend a similar amount drinking all day on Las Olas.

The cruise itself is everything a cruise should be.

The larger question at hand is where exactly that cruise will be cruising to in ten years. What kind of Bimini will the SuperFast be dropping its passengers off at in 2024?

There are many different answers to that question depending on whom you ask. One thing is certain, though. Whatever Bimini will look like in a decade, Ernest Hemingway probably wouldn't write a book about it.

Day Cruises start at $157.30 per person from Port Everglades. If you buy one full-priced ticket, you can receive up to three free tickets. You can book them here or call 888-930-8688.

Bimini Cruise Port: Everything You Need To Know

Doug Parker

Doug Parker

  • July 26, 2021

A new port joins Nassau and Freeport in the Bahamas, giving cruisers more of a selection when choosing a Bahamian itinerary.

In July 2021, Resorts World Bimini Cruise Port welcomed its first cruise ship when  Crystal Serenity  docked with cruise passengers. Four days later, Carnival Cruise Line made its first call there with Carnival Horizon.

Resorts World Bimini Cruise Port

Located 55 nautical miles off the coast of Miami, the Bimini Islands is primarily a beach destination with some added history tours sprinkled in. With a total population of under 2,000 people living there, it’s practically untouched, with the exception of a few resorts.

Bimini is actually made up of two islands, North and South Bimini. The cruise port is on North Bimini, and the airport is on South Bimini. You can take a quick ride between the two islands with the local ferry service at $8 per person each way.

Bimini Distance from Miami

The island is 62 miles south of Grand Bahama Island, 127 miles northwest of Nassau, 77 miles from West Palm Beach, and 58 miles from Port Everglades.

This island was called Virgin Voyages’ private resort destination . However, Virgin is only utilizing a beach and beach club on Bimini, which is open to other cruise passengers when a Virgin ship is not there.

Pier Location

The Resorts World Bimini Cruise Port is a new cruise port that can now hold the largest cruise ships, such as Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class vessels (225,000 gross tons).

The ship docks in East Bimini. The pier was originally built for the now-defunct Bimini Superfast but was recently expanded to accommodate the world’s largest cruise vessels.

There’s a charm to the pier because it’s so new to major cruise lines, and it hasn’t been developed or overrun by Caribbean staple shops like Diamonds International.

Aside from cruise ships, high-speed ferry service from Balearia Caribbean also makes stops there, running routes from Fort Lauderdale to North Bimini Island.

Balearia Caribbean at North Bimini

Being right off the coast of South Florida, there isn’t much difference in the weather. You can expect the same weather as you would in Miami, Florida (so pack shorts!).

The temperatures range from around 60 degrees in the winter to 90 degrees in the dead of summer. Even with the humidity, the breeze off the ocean tends to make it feel a bit cooler.

The water temperatures average between 77 degrees in the winter and 87 degrees in the summer.

Legal tender is the Bahamian dollar ($BSD), but US currency is accepted and usually given as change in the Bahamas. If paying in cash, make sure to confirm you’re getting a change in US currency.

There are ATM machines around the resorts, but expect to pay a steep service fee to access them. Credit cards and digital payments are also accepted at most locations on the island, especially at the large resorts.

Getting Around

Even though the island is only seven miles long, you may want to find a way to get around.

A Resorts Worlds tram service makes select stops around the island and operates every 30 minutes. These trams have marked pick-up locations and will take you to different Resorts World properties from the cruise ship. (Note: they only operate between Resorts World properties.)

Anyone can use the Resorts World tram. Just keep in mind it will take you to one of their properties where you can go to a casino, beach, or eat.

bimini bahamas resorts world tram

Taxi rates will vary by where you want to go, but the common fare was $5 per person to most locations. The cruise pier is at the midway point of the island, so it’s equal distance to both the northern and southern areas.

By Golf Cart

A couple of golf cart rental companies on the island charge around $90 per day for a four-seater and $120 per day for a six-seater. With little traffic on the island, it’s an easy and stress-free way to explore on your own timetable.

If you’re sticking close to the pier, you can obviously walk to your destination. The Resorts World Hilton is about a 10-minute walk from the ship.

To explore beyond that, however, you’ll want to find a form of transportation — if only because of the heat!

golf cart rental

As I mentioned earlier, one charm of Bimini is that it hasn’t been overdeveloped, especially when it comes to the area around the pier. As it becomes more popular in the coming years, that’s likely to change, but for now, it’s one of the things that makes this port so appealing.

A small market with a few shops is just south of the cruise pier. Otherwise, you’re limited to shopping at one of the Resorts World properties if you’re looking to pick up a souvenir.

While shopping for basic necessities, keep in mind that you are on an island with limited resources, so items in the resort gift shops tend to be on the pricey side as they all have to be imported from the mainland.

What To Do in Bimini

Cruise ship at Bimini

Bimini is primarily a beach destination that focuses on water activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming with sharks, and jet skiing.

If you want to explore on your own, you can rent a golf cart or set out with food (and plenty of water to stay hydrated) and explore the island.

Cruise lines offer around a dozen shore excursions in Bimini, but if you’re looking for something a little different, we’ve listed some things to do in the area. If this is your first time visiting Bimini, here are some suggestions.

Local Beaches

Some of the quietest and best beaches in Bimini run together on the southwestern side of the island in Alice Town: Radio Beach, Blister Beach, and Spook Hill.

There is also a string of beaches north of the resort area’s cruise port. Keep in mind that you’ll be required to pay a fee if you’d like to use a sun chair, resort facilities, pool, or a lounger.

Beach Club 360

Typically sold by the cruise line, this new private beach package is good if you’re looking to spend a day at the beach. Located right next to Resorts World Bimini Beach, the stretch of beach has some of the clearest turquoise waters in the Bahamas.

The club has options to rent cabanas, umbrellas, and beach chairs. The price of varies depending on your cruise line and which add-ons you’d like. This premium beachfront complex has two lagoon pools, swim-up bars, DJs playing music, and plenty of beachfront property.

Explore a Shipwreck

You can set up a trip out to the SS Sapona wreck through one of the resorts. The World War I ship ran aground during a hurricane in 1926 and has remained ever since. The artificial reef is filled with sea life. This can be booked at Resorts World or in advance.

Historic Attractions

Bimini’s rich history is seen throughout the island, like the SS Sapona wreck we mentioned. You can explore some of the local histories at Bimini Museum, where you’ll learn about some of the famous folks who’ve made the island their home over the years (including former resident Ernest Hemingway).

There is no charge to enter the museum, but they do take donations.

Also relatively close to the pier is Dolphin House Museum, a three-story home made entirely out of recycled materials, including many items that washed up on the shore.

If you’re a shark or marine life lover, you’ll love Bimini. Since the waters of the Bahamas are so warm, the Bimini Biological Field Station has a shark lab set up.

Visitors can sign up for a tour of the station and even participate in research or adopt a shark. And in case you’re concerned, the area is filled with lemon sharks, which aren’t aggressive and have zero recorded fatalities against humans.

(Note: The Shark Lab is currently closed because of the pandemic, but you can sign up for expeditions.)

You will be required to take a one-mile ferry ride to South Bimini to explore the Shark Lab.

Local Food and Drink Favorites

The local food favorite is the conch. You can order it prepared in a variety of ways, the most popular being fried conch fritters or ceviche. Conch can be ordered from almost any restaurant that serves seafood, and even a couple of roadside stands serve up this marine mollusk.

In speaking with the locals, there are two popular drinks that Bimini serves, Goombay Smash (four different types of rum, pineapple juice, and orange juice) and Rum Runners (assorted fruit juices, banana liquor, rum, and grenadine), which were made famous by the illegal smuggling of rum between Miami and Bimini.

Final Thoughts

Except for Carnival Corporation’s Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas, Bimini has the clearest and cleanest waters of any place where cruise ships stop in the region.

We did the Beach Club package ($64.99 per person through the cruise line) during our recent visit, spending the day going back and forth between the lagoon swimming pools and the beach.

The tram service was complimentary and took us directly from the beach to the cruise ship. The roads are bumpy, so hold tight when on the tram.

Overall, it was a memorable experience that I’d book again on another cruise to Bimini.

Resorts World Bimini Superfast Day Cruise

The ship was supposed to leave at 9:00 am but we didn’t end up boarding until about 10:00 am. At this point we have already been at port 2.5 hours waiting to even get let on the ship. Luckily we had seats and didn’t begin to make the insane line that was forming until closer about 9:00 am.

Once aboard, we went to the reception counter on Deck 7 to get the cabin key since our family had reserved a room but were advised it was not ready yet. We decided to have breakfast and come back. The deck 10 buffet as we imagined was packed, they were out of eggs, and so the line wasn’t even moving. We decided to go to the deck 7 Sailfish Bistro which luckily was not as congested and turned out to be free as well. The breakfast was pretty good. It was a mix of American and Malaysian breakfast items. My only qualm was that the scrambled eggs were very runny

After breakfast, we returned to reception and were able to get the room key. The room is small nothing to write home about but had 4 twin bunk beds and a clean bathroom. While the family headed up to Deck 10, Jason and I decided to rest for a little bit having been up all night. When we wake up from our power nap, we find out the ship had only just set sail towards Bimini and it was already 11:30 am. I wondered what time we would have at Bimini at this point.

At about 1:00 pm we decide to make our way to deck 7 to prepare to disembark. It turns out there was already a line formed and we were once again in that casino hall waiting to get off the ship. Déjà vu from the night before. The ship arrived at 1:30 pm and no one was off the ship yet. People started getting irate, as they had now turned off the a/c in the casino. A fight nearly broke out right where we were, but luckily we were able to appease both parties.  At about 1:45 pm, an announcement came on stating that we would not have much time on Bimini, if anyone wanted to stay and be picked up at the 1:00 am pick up, they may do so or those who chose to stay on board or take the short visit to Bimini would be compensated with a free cruise on a future sailing. At this point, I thought they were saying no one was going to be allowed off the ship unless they wanted to be picked up at 1:00 am. However, a few minutes later they began to let people board the ferry. We missed the first run but were on the second ferry out. The ferry provided water bottles and cool towels on route to the island and all in all it took almost 40 minutes to get there. We arrived on Bimini at 2:50 pm.

As we get closer in the line, we notice that they are searching thoroughly through everyone’s bag and that is what is taking so long. At around 4:30 pm, a Bimini official yells “no more” and closes the gate to get to the ferry! Everyone close enough to hear and see what was going on started to panic and yell. Where we really going to be left behind? We had been standing in the sun for over an hour already. After what looked like some discussion amongst the customs officials and other personal, they reopened the gate and they opened a second entry on the other side of the dock building, effectively splitting the line in two. Only, the people who got to go in the second line Bimini customs line were at the end of the line and last to arrive and luckily for them were allowed on the ferry before those of us who had already been in line for over an hour. The uproar continued with nearby passengers exclaiming to the customs official at just how unfair it was that those people who were late back to dock were allowed through onto the ferry before those of us waiting.

After I down the two ibuprofens without any water, we proceed to get some dinner at the Sailfish Bistro. It is already 6:15 pm at this point and people were still trying to board the ship from Bimini. I can barely down dinner from how ill I feel and head to the room to lay down.

Another thing of note is that we were charged a $75 hold on our debit card that we were not advised of. We only found out about the charge two days later upon reviewing our bank statements. When speaking to Christine Corson afterwards in regards to the charge, she advised it was a “resort hold” like you would receive at any hotel. That’s fine, except hotels advise you of the fee upfront and provide you information in writing about the hold. We didn’t get the hold released until 8 days later.

I think it’s going to be a while before they work out the kinks to this cruise. I would be willing to give it another go a few months down the line to see if things have changed. If the process is cleaned up, it would be a great option to visit Bimini.

How to Have an Amazing One Day Cruise to Bimini Bahamas

bimini superfast cruise

A one day cruise to Bimini is a popular and easy way to visit the Bahamas. Many travelers know that the Bahamas are close to Florida, and because of that, view a one day cruise to Bimini as a great way to see some of the country’s top sites. Unfortunately, expectations end up conflicting with reality, and the Bimini ferry often leaves many travelers feeling disappointed.

To help make your vacation as enjoyable as possible, we’re going to cut through the misleading marketing and explain the truth about a one day cruise to Bimini. We’re also going to explain why Bahamas day trips by plane are the best way to explore the country.

Flying by air lets you explore remote parts of the country, save time, and travel in comfort and style. Bahamas day trips with Bahamas Air Tours are the best way to visit the archipelago nation!

The Truth About a One Day Cruise to Bimini

The bimini ferry.

1 day cruise to bimini from Miami by plane with Bahamas Air Tours. Fly from Miami to Resorts World bimini by plane on a Bahamas Air Charter trip to Bahamas.

One day cruise to Bimini is a great way to get a taste of the Bahamas.

The Bimini ferry is the boat travelers take to get to Bimini, Bahamas. Operated by Baleària Caribbean , the company is in charge of the one day cruise to Bimini from Miami. They also offer service to Freeport, a busy city and cruise ship port on Grand Bahama.

Bimini is around 45 miles off the coast of Florida. However, while that may sound close, the journey isn’t as smooth as many travelers anticipate it to be.

For one thing, getting to Bimini Bahamas requires travelers to cross over the rough, open waters of the Atlantic. This makes the journey bumpy and uncomfortable, with many passengers getting seasick. When the water is exceptionally rough, Baleària Caribbean will often cancel service altogether, often at the last minute. That can make planning a one day cruise to Bimini difficult.

The Crowds on a Bimini Cruise

Rough water isn’t the only thing you have to deal with. One of the biggest drawbacks of the one day cruise to Bimini from Miami are the crowds.

The ferry can accommodate hundreds of people, meaning that the experience you get is anything but personal or unique. Many travelers end up feeling like numbers on a spreadsheet, piling onto the boat in the most cost-efficient method possible.

To accommodate the crowds, you’ll also need to get to the ferry terminal hours in advance to even make it on the day trip to Bimini from Fort Lauderdale. According to the Baleària Caribbean company website, travelers should arrive for check-in at around 6:00 am, three hours before the boat even leaves the terminal.

Once you’re on and the boat finally leaves, you won’t get there until around 11:00 am. Then, before you know it, it’ll be time to board the ship again to start the long journey back to the States.

Known as the gateway to the Bahamas, Bimini is a popular destination – both on account of its proximity to the United States and the beautiful sites it has to offer.

Of course, people travel to the Bahamas expecting beaches, and Bimini doesn’t disappoint. The best beaches are on the western half of the island’s northern side. There, you can find the palm-fringed powdery white-sand beaches that make the Bahamas famous.

Bimini Bahamas has no shortage of amazing beaches.

Besides just sunbathing, you can also partake in different activities in the azure waters around the island. From parasailing and fishing to kayaking and paddle boarding, there’s never a shortage of outdoor activities to enjoy on a 1 day cruise to Bimini from Miami.

Other Bimini Activities

On top of beautiful beaches, Bimini has some other fun sites worth exploring.

For example, if you’re interested in shopping, Bimini has tons of great stores that cater to travelers. While some people might find them a bit touristy, haggling with locals at the markets can still be a fun experience. And you just might end up with the perfect gift to bring back home from your one day cruise to Bimini!

Why Air Travel Is the Best Way to Visit the Bahamas

As we’ve explained, while the 1 day cruise to Bimini from Miami is a popular travel option, it comes with many downsides. Luckily, flying by plane lets you avoid all of them.

For one thing, air travel is far more efficient than traveling by boat. If you’re interested in chartering a private plane to get to Bimini, you can do so and arrive in around 30 minutes.

Otherwise, you can look into Bahamas day trips by plane that take you to the Exumas . The plane ride there takes just two hours from Miami, around the time it takes you to get to Bimini by boat. Once there, you’ll get to see many famous sites, including:

  • The Exuma Pigs at Pig Beach
  • Nurse sharks at Compass Cay
  • Iguanas at Bitter Guana Cay
  • Sand bars at Pipe Creek
  • An underwater plane wreck

Saving time by flying gives you more time to see the sites you want to see, whether on Bimini or in the Exumas.

Avoid the Crowds

If traveling with crowds of other people on a one day cruise to Bimini doesn’t sound fun, you can avoid them all by traveling on a private class plane. If you book a private trip, you can ensure that it’s just you and your companions on the trip. Otherwise, you’ll share it with just a small group of others. But don’t worry, everyone gets a window seat with jaw-dropping views of the waters and islands out the window.

Traveling on a private-class plane also means that you don’t have to arrive for check-in hours in advance. You can sleep in a bit, then arrive at the airport around 45 minutes before departure.

Travel in Comfort

Fewer people means a more personal and comfortable experience. But remember that traveling by air also lets you fly over the rough and turbulent waters beneath you. You won’t have to worry bout seasickness, nor will you have to worry about your trip getting canceled.

You can sit back and relax until you land at your destination of choice.

A Better Option Than a One Day Cruise to Bimini

A one day cruise to Bimini from Florida may be one of the most popular ways to reach the Bahamas, but it’s not the  best  way. Traveling by boat comes with many downsides that can mar your overall impression of the country. Luckily, flying by air allows you to sidestep all of them.

Whether you’re looking to travel to Bimini, the Exumas, or somewhere else in the country, Bahamas Air Tours can help you get there.
