What travelers say about their tours of the United States

Travel tips for usa tours.

While we could list quite a number things to see on tour in the United States, here are our top picks:

  • The Grand Canyon  in Arizona, one of America’s most-visited national parks, for colorful hikes
  • New York City and Washington, D.C. , for the iconic American experience
  • Hawaii , for beautiful beaches, spectacular sunsets, and a unique culture
  • Zion National Park  in Utah, for canyons, rivers, and incredible views

You don’t have to leave the U.S. to go on a memorable vacation. One of the best benefits of our United States tours is that you can see beautiful sights right in your proverbial backyard. You won’t have to worry about long flights, exchanging currencies, or language barriers. Plus, you can learn more about the places your ancestors may have traveled or lived, as well as build a deeper connection to the country you call home.

The best time to travel in the U.S. depends on where you’re going and what you’re hoping to do.

Spring:  Consider  U.S. National Parks Adventure: A Week in the Southwest  for outdoor hiking and sightseeing when it’s not too hot outside.

Summer : Visit  Denali National Park  in Alaska for some of the most majestic landscapes and wildlife sightings when it’s warmer.

Fall:  Visit  Vermont and Massachusetts  for stunning views of fall foliage and colonial history, or go on our  Albuquerque Balloon Festival & U.S. National Parks  tour for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

What to pack for USA tours depends on where in the country you go and what you are hoping to do. If you are going to  Nashville and New Orleans , you’ll want to bring a lot of light layers to keep comfortable in the heat and humidity. If you’re going to  Alaska , on the other hand, you’ll want to bring a lot of heavy layers to keep warm in the cold. All of our tours include custom packing suggestions, so check the clothing and packing tips in the tour you love.

Grand Canyon National Park

One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the UNESCO-listed Grand Canyon National Park is a phenomenal feat of nature. You’ll walk the rim and learn from your Local Specialist how it formed over the past 40 million years. From sunrise to sunset, the Grand Canyon is truly mesmerising.

Mesa Verde National Park

Located in Colorado, this UNESCO-listed national park is filled with centuries-old history. You’ll drive the Mesa Top Loop Road past archaeological sites and lookouts, and see the ancient cliff dwellings of the Ancestral Puebloan people, that are chiselled out of the sandstone canyon walls.

Arches National Park

We’ll take you on a journey through the spectacular sandstone arches of Arches National Park. There are more than 2,000 natural arches carved by the wind, including the long Landscape Arch. You can hike to the viewpoint of the iconic Delicate Arch and discover other formations such as Balanced Rock, soaring over the desert.

Yellowstone National Park

Discover the geothermal wonderland of Yellowstone National Park, one of the world’s oldest national parks. We’ll show you the steaming hot springs, alpine forests and rivers, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, mud paint pots, and the remarkable shooting waters of Old Faithful. Keep your eyes peeled for animals like bears, bison, elk and wolves.

Yosemite National Park

Wander in the shadows of Yosemite’s giant sequoia trees, as our Local Specialists reveal the ancient history of these incredible forests. You’ll see the Cathedral Rocks, the plunging Bridal Veil Falls, and the cliffs of El Capitan. We’ll also explore Tenaya Lake and Tuolumne Meadows, before taking a special tour of the Yosemite Valley floor.

Our top 5 things to do in US National Parks

When you visit US National Parks with Trafalgar, we’ll show you the top national parks in the country, from the giant Grand Canyon to the ancient trees of Yosemite.

Buffalo wings

Found across the country, buffalo wings are one of the most beloved dishes in the United States. An unbreaded chicken wing is deep-fried and coated in a vinegar cayenne hot sauce with melted butter. They’re best served hot and dipped in blue cheese or ranch dressing.

Cheesesteak

Hailing from Philadelphia, the cheesesteak is now a classic American dish found across the country. It’s a sandwich made from thin slices of beefsteak and melted cheese, stuffed in a long hoagie roll, and it’s a delicious meal after a long day of hiking through national parks.

Also known as the ‘Yankee pot roast’, this is a braised beef dish made from slow cooking a piece of beef with gravy and vegetables such as potatoes, onions and carrots. The cooking method produces a soft, succulent meat drenched in rich gravy, for a warm and hearty meal.

Best food in US National Parks

Exploring the trails of the national parks works up an appetite, and we’ll show you the best places to taste all the famous dishes of the United States.

What to pack for US National Parks

People packing for a tour

Hiking shoes

The National Parks of the US are filled with hiking trails, and you’ll need a sturdy pair of shoes to explore these spectacular landscapes.

Versatile clothing

From sun-drenched canyons to snowy peaks, the weather changes throughout the national parks. Come prepared for all climates with layered and versatile clothing.

Reusable water bottle

National parks are pristine protected areas, and whatever you take in, you must take out. Bring a reusable water bottle to avoid adding to waste with disposable plastic bottles.

A book to collect stamps

You can collect unique stamps at the ranger stations of each national park. Bring a notebook to keep them in, as a special memento of your journey.

Itinerary idea in detail

Private customized tour.

Today, you will arrive at Rapid City Airport then collect your hire car and make the short drive south to stay in Custer State Park for the next three nights. This way you'll have a chance to thoroughly explore both the natural and man-made wonders of the area. We also offer accommodation in Rapid City for the night, if you don't fancy driving straight off the plane.

Custer National Park

Custer State Park is surrounded by numerous attractions and activities in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. We highly recommend you set off early for a drive through the park, watching out for bison in the long grass. Some of the most scenic drives are the Wildlife Loop Road, Needles Highway, and Iron Mountain Road. There are also some fantastic hikes in the park and numerous large lakes for water recreation.

Mount Rushmore National Monument, South Dakota

Another day in Custer allows you to visit two famous monuments in the area, Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse National Monument. The two are often visited in tandem to tell a wider story. For more information on the Native American creation story, be sure to visit Jewel Cave and Wind Cave while you are in Custer.

Mount Rushmore

Leaving Custer today, you may wish to visit the old Wild West town of Deadwood and Devil's Tower National Monument before continuing to Sheridan, which is around a three-hour drive, where you'll stop for the night. On arrival, take a leisurely stroll through Sheridan's historic downtown district, which is filled with charming shops, art galleries, and historic buildings.

Bighorn Mountains, near Sheridan

Leave Sheridan and continue north to the historic western town of Cody, which is another three-hour drive. Stop off in Bighorn National Forest along the way and Antelope Butte Mountain Recreation area for some great hiking and scenic viewpoints. Once in Cody, step back in time as you wander through the authentic log cabins, saloons, and shops, and learn about the town's connection to famous Western figures like Buffalo Bill Cody and Butch Cassidy. Be sure to invest in some cowboy boots or a hand-crafted belt or buckle, while here.

Old buildings at Old Trail Town Historical Museum, Cody

A highlight of the town is the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, which was originally founded in 1912 and comprises several distinct museums, including the Buffalo Bill Museum, Whitney Gallery of Western Art, the Plains Indian Museum, the Cody Firearms Museum and the Draper Museum of Natural History.

Cowboy at the Cody Nite Rodeo

Cody is the gateway to Yellowstone National Park, and your drive today takes you down the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway and into Yellowstone National Park. The scenery gets ever more spectacular as you approach Yellowstone Lake. Make sure you keep a lookout for wildlife that thrives here and the marvels of the geothermal landscapes.

Old Faithful Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park

Enjoy a full day in Yellowstone. Be sure to visit 'Old Faithful', the park's renowned geyser, as well as the colorful lakes, boiling mud and sulfurous springs. Keep your eyes open for an abundance of wildlife while in the park. In the evening, kayak on Lake Yellowstone with a small group and enjoy the serene ambience of the area, as the sun sets over the lake.

Wolf, Yellowstone National Park

Drive north out of the park to the small town of Gardiner, which is the northern gateway of Yellowstone National Park. While in the park there are plenty of scenic drives and points of interest for you along the way. One stop not to be missed is the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. When you arrive in Gardiner, there are fantastic natural hot springs, which are great for an afternoon of relaxation.

Grand Teton to Yellowstone

Today, you're up bright and early to join your experienced naturalist guide for a private, wildlife focussed tour of Yellowstone National Park. Your knowledgeable guide knows all the best spots to view wolves, bison, elk, smaller mammals and birds of prey. Wildlife sightings are, of course, variable, but your guide will show you how to use the best spotting scopes and give you tips on photographing these majestic animals, coupled with information on the history and geology of the area.

Yellowstone bear

Spend another day in northern Yellowstone, hiking in the park or exploring the geothermal wonders of the region. There are plenty of great hikes in the Lamar Valley and scenic drives throughout the national park. We can also recommend visiting Mammoth Hot Springs to view these incredible natural spring formations.

Elk in Yellowstone National Park

Leaving Gardiner and Yellowstone National Park, drive north for around four hours to reach the university town of Missoula. The drive through western Montana is very scenic, as you pass through some natural monuments such as the Lewis and Clark State Caverns. On arrival in Missoula, there are many easily accessible shops, breweries, and restaurants. End the day with a sunset stroll along the Clark Fork River.

An old barn, Mission Mountains near Missoula, Montana

Leave Missoula today for the two and a half hour drive through Western Montana's Glacier Country. Along the way, the drive is exceptionally scenic and there's a chance to explore Lolo National Forest and Flathead Lake before reaching charming Whitefish.

Whitefish Lake, Montana

Embark on a private hike in Glacier National Park with your experienced guide, and as the hike is for your group only, it can be fully tailored to your fitness levels. You'll begin by heading into the park and following trails with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Your guide will share insights about the park's ecology and history as you hike through Glacier's pristine wilderness.

Glacier National Park

Today is your own to explore Glacier National Park. Please be aware that this national park is subject to timed entry restrictions during the summer months, and it's necessary to speak to your Country Specialist about the possibility of securing these when you enquire. However, there are some parts of the park that are accessible without a permit through the east entrance. Alternatively, there is the option to add a Red Bus Tour to different parts of the national park, if you would prefer a guided experience.

A mountain goat, Glacier National Park, Montana

Sadly, your Rockies adventure has come to an end. Depart Whitefish today and drive down to Kalispell to return the hire car and catch your onward flight.

Western USA National Parks Loop

5 days | explore the national parks of the usa’s wild west.

Jeep excursion in Monument Valley, Utah, USA

Deserts, canyons, lakes and valleys await on a five-day adventure through western USA’s most spectacular national parks. Hike through the diverse scenery of Zion National Park, marvel at sandstone spires in Bryce Canyon National Park, join a Navajo guide to learn about the history of Monument Valley and take in one of the natural wonders of the world at Grand Canyon National Park. Let an expert local guide share stories of the landscape and discover there’s more to each destination than what meets the eye.

Trip overview

  • Hike through the varied landscapes of Zion National Park, taking in views of massive canyon walls and red sandstone cliffs as you go.
  • Learn about the culture and history of Monument Valley during a Navajo guided tour, followed by a traditional homecooked, family-style Navajo lunch.
  • Stroll along the canyon rim in Bryce Canyon National Park to admire the out-of-this-world sandstone spires known as hoodoos.
  • Kayak across the waters of Lake Powell, weaving your way past fascinating rock formations as your leader shares stories of the lake’s history.
  • Marvel at one of the nation’s greatest national parks, The Grand Canyon, and walk along the rim, hike into the canyon or take in an epic sunset or sunrise (depending on season)
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll learn about our Intrepid Foundation partner, the Grand Canyon Conservancy. Donations help them protect Grand Canyon National Park and support trail restoration, conservation of native plants and wildlife, and educational programs. Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.
  • This is a fast-paced trip that covers a lot of ground in a short time. You'll be travelling in a private vehicle with your group. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. It’s all part of the adventure and a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. Please read the itinerary carefully for travel time estimates.
  • The trip involves a lot of walking through Zion National Park and Bryce National park, so be prepared with hiking shoes, a water bottle and day pack.
  • Lunches will be simple picnic style so perhaps bring some of your own snacks if you think you’ll get hungry between meals.
  • We will be travelling to the desert, which means it is often very warm during the day but cold at night, so make sure you pack the appropriate clothing for all weather.
  • You may also want to check out our Best of Western USA if you have a longer time to explore the region:

Welcome to Las Vegas! The real wild west is home to some of the USA’s most incredible scenery. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 8 am. Then, you’ll hop aboard a private van. Get to know each other over a picnic lunch, then venture into the stunning landscapes of Zion National Park. Join your leader for a guided hike, then spend the night in Springdale – known as the gateway to the park.

  • Hotel (1 night)
  • Zion National Park - Walks

Please make your own way to the hotel lobby to meet your leader at 8 am this morning. It’s recommended you append an extra day or two in Vegas so you have plenty of time to get there.

Your total travel time today is approximately 3 hours.

The exact trail we hike in Zion will depend on the group's interest and ability, and will typically be either the Emerald Pools trail, or the Watchman trail. The hiking is easy to moderate with a distance of approximately 3 miles/4.8 km with 350 ft/107 mt of elevation gain.

After breakfast this morning, it’s time to make tracks for Bryce Canyon National Park – make sure your camera is ready to go, as some of the views you’ll come across today are truly out of this world! Take a short drive in your private vehicle, then spend the morning hiking through the epic landscapes of the park. Walk along the canyon rim and marvel at hundreds of unique sandstone towers, known as hoodoos, that jut out from the natural amphitheatre. Relax while you enjoy a picnic lunch and take in your magnificent surroundings, then hike down into the canyon for a closer look at the fascinating hoodoos. Then, drive on to the town of Page, where you’ll spend the night.

  • Bryce Canyon - Leader-led Walk

Your total travel time today is approximately 5 hours.

Today's hiking distance is 3 miles (4.8 km) with 450 feet (137 m) of elevation gain.

Bryce Canyon is situated at 8000 ft (2440 m) above sea level. You can expect cooler temperatures, thinner and dryer air than elsewhere on this trip. Make sure you stay hydrated while hiking in the park.

Journey south this morning, driving through more spectacular scenery before arriving at Lake Powell. This gorgeous reservoir is certainly a sight to behold from the shore but to really appreciate it, you’ve got to get on the water. Jump in a kayak and paddle across the water’s surface, weaving your way through remarkable rock formations while your leader regales you with stories of the lake’s history. Back on dry land, set out for a gentle walk along Horseshoe Bend, taking in beautiful views with every step. This afternoon there is an option to visit Antelope Canyon before returning to Page for the evening.

  • Horseshoe Bend Visit
  • Lake Powell - Kayaking
  • Page - Antelope Canyon Tour - USD70

You will get wet during the kayaking excursion, therefore we recommend wearing a swimsuit and water shoes/sandals, or bring a change of clothes and shoes with you on this day.

During November and December, you may be unable to kayak on Lake Powell. There will be a local slot canyon walk included when kayaking is not possible. This hike does involve soft sand, stairs and ramps, so it’s best to wear closed-toe shoes.

ANTELOPE CANYON: Since this tour is very popular and tends to sell out, we recommend you pre-book your space. You can book any time slot 2pm or later. Please book the Lower Antelope Canyon Hiking Tour here: https://www.antelopelowercanyon.com/tours/

Start the day with a drive to Monument Valley – one of the world’s most iconic sights. If this landscape dotted with towering sandstone buttes looks familiar to you, it’s no surprise – Monument Valley has been the filming location for many famous Western films. More importantly, this is the native land of the Navajo. When you arrive, you’ll transfer from your vehicle to a 4WD and enjoy a Navajo-guided tour of Monument Valley, where you’ll have the chance to learn more about their rich culture and history in the area before sitting down to a traditional homecooked, family-style Navajo lunch. Continue your journey onto the iconic Grand Canyon for some awe-inspiring walks along the rim.

  • Monument Valley - Navajo guided 4x4 Jeep tour including traditional lunch

We aim to experience either sunset or sunrise at the Grand Canyon rim, depending on season. During spring and fall when the sun sets earlier and rises later we typically visit for sunrise on Day 5. During the summer months we visit for sunset on Day 4.

This morning it's time to return to Las Vegas, but first we'll make a stop along Historic Route 66. You’ll arrive back in Las Vegas at approximately 4 pm where your adventure will come to an end.

  • Grand Canyon National Park - Entrance

Your total travel time today is approximately 4.5 hours.

There is no accommodation included in Las Vegas on the last day.  We'll be happy to book additional accommodation for you (subject to availability). Speak to an Intrepid booking agent for more information.

Tipping Tipping in the USA is a complex cultural practice. While not technically mandatory, it's deeply ingrained in the service industry and considered a crucial part of an employee's income. Understanding the tipping etiquette can be confusing for visitors, as it varies depending on the type of service, location, and even the bill amount.

Here is some information to assist you with tipping in the USA.

Tipping in the USA is expected, but not mandatory. Generally 15-20% of the bill (before tax) is considered standard for good service, while higher tips are customary for exceptional service. Some restaurants may automatically add gratuity, so check your bill carefully.

Tipping your tour leader in the USA is not as common as tipping in restaurants, but it's certainly a kind gesture and a way to show your appreciation for their hard work and guidance throughout your trip. If you had a good experience, USD$5-$10 per person per day is a decent starting point. For exceptional service or longer tours, aim for USD$10-$20 or a lump sum at the end.

Ultimately, tipping your tour leader is a personal decision. If you felt they provided a valuable service and made your trip more enjoyable, a tip is a thoughtful way to express your thanks. Remember, even a small gesture can go a long way in showing your appreciation for their hard work.

While navigating the intricacies of tipping can feel overwhelming at first, understanding the basics will ensure you navigate this cultural practice confidently during your visit to the USA.

Tour Routing

This tour is routed via the Tioga Pass, (weather permitting). Normally the pass opens to traffic in late May, however, this is totally dependent upon the natural snow melt which has sometimes occurred as late as early July. If the Tioga Pass is closed, tours will overnight in Fresno or Visalia. When the Tioga Pass is open, accommodation will be at Mammoth Lakes. Please note that due to logistics and operational needs, we may require at least 30 days from the opening of the Pass each season to amend tour routings from Fresno or Visalia to Mammoth Lakes.

Travel through Death Valley is dependent upon climatic conditions. Should the maximum safe operational temperature for motorcoaches in Death Valley be exceeded, an alternate routing along the Eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada may be chosen.

The Discoveries Of

The Best USA Tours for Your Bucket List: Cultural Insights and Natural Wonders Await

On the hunt for a spectacular USA tour to see the country’s sprawling landscapes and iconic landmarks? Dive right in with these unique adventures.

Planning a trip to the  United States can feel a bit overwhelming. The vast landscape covering nearly 3,000 miles from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean isn’t just big; it’s packed with things to do . Imagine epic national parks and lively cities dotting the prairies, mountains, and valleys from coast to coast – welcome to the USA.

A great way to learn more about the USA is to pick a region and dive into its history, culture, and natural landscapes. Choosing a guided tour of the United States makes it that much easier to navigate. But where should you go and which tour should you book? No need to fret. I got you covered with an action-packed list of the 10 best USA tours you’ll want to consider for your holiday in North America .

Western USA National Parks Explorer

California Road Trip - Yosemite

This 2-week tour of the US sets you up with the best of both worlds – you hit some of the most famous national parks in the USA and pair that with overnights in two of the most iconic cities in the American West. Start off in San Francisco before making your way to Yosemite and Death Valley in California. Talk about a contrast of landscapes – from the waterfalls and towering granite mountains in Yosemite to the salt flats and dark desert skies in Death Valley. After an overnight stay in Vegas, you’ll head to two of Utah’s Mighty Five before reaching the crown jewel of one of the best guided tours the USA offers – the Grand Canyon . Buckle up, and get ready for the most scenic sites in the West.

Best of Yellowstone & Grand Teton

national usa tour

Few places in the world feature the rugged beauty and diverse wildlife of Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. One of my favourite ideas for USA tours is this 7-day adventure . It truly shows you a side of wild Wyoming that will keep you reaching for your camera when you visit two of the most scenic national parks in the USA. Start in Grand Teton National Park, where you can hike to epic waterfalls and take a boat ride on the picturesque Jenny Lake.

Next, you’ll move to Yellowstone, where you can witness the famous geysers, roaming bison, and cascading Union Falls firsthand.

Hotels and breakfasts are part of the package, but you’ll need to carry some extra cash for lunch and dinner.

Tennessee Music Trail to New Orleans

New Orleans

If you want to experience the iconic music scene of America’s south, this 6-day guided tour from Tennessee to New Orleans is a perfect choice.

Stops include the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, the legendary rock & roll recording studio Sun Studio in Memphis, and the birthplace of jazz, New Orleans. You’re set up with your hotels, breakfast, and private transportation but are on your own for most lunches and dinners. But not to worry. You won’t need to look far to find the best food in the country in any of the destinations on this USA guided tour.

Best of Utah & Arizona National Parks

Grand Canyon - South Rim Trail Monument Creek Vista

The American Southwest is one of the most incredible sections of the USA, so it’s no surprise one of my favourite tours is this 7-day adventure through Arizona and Utah. Tick three of the bucket list parks in the USA with Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon. Not bad, right? You won’t need to worry about lodging, and you’ll also enjoy a few free breakfasts and lunches on the trip. If you want to splurge (highly recommended), add a Grand Canyon Helicopter Tour for $350, where you’ll get a chance to photograph the iconic stretch of the Colorado River from an aerial view.

Remember that this tour offers shared accommodations, but you can reserve your room for an extra $1549.

Fall Colours from Montreal to Boston

Montréal,-Canada

Looking for US tours in the Northeast? This 12-day tour is unique because you’re actually getting a look at some of the most scenic roadways, hiking trails, and cities in not 1 but 2 North American countries. You start your trip in Montreal before heading down to the United States through the incredible New England state of Maine. Enjoy the most scenic views of the rocky shores and storied lighthouses along the Atlantic Ocean. But the real highlight of a trip to the Northeastern United States in the fall are the magnificent views of the maples, oaks, and birch trees in Acadia National Park, Ogunquit, and Salem. Cap the tour off with some time in Boston, where you take a tour of Harvard with a local student. New England is always a treat, but it just hits different in the fall.

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, New Mexico and Eclipse

Hot Air Ballooning Albuquerque

This 10-day tour of New Mexico takes off in the gorgeous Southwest city of Albuquerque before exploring the rugged wild west landscapes of Taos, Durango, and Mesa Verde National Park.

You’ll spend time in the impossibly charming Santa Fe , where you can browse through the endless art galleries and museums before experiencing New Mexican cuisine at your own pace. Order anything and everything with green chile. As for planned excursions, you take a train ride through the canyons and mountain landscape of Durango, watch the iconic colourful aircraft at the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, and visit a UNESCO pueblo in Taos on this popular tour of New Mexico. This one’s a winner.

Washington DC to New York City Discovery

New York- View from Empire State Building

If you want to stick to some of the most famous cities in the USA on your guided tour, book this 7-day itinerary from Washington, DC to New York City.

Not only will you visit the top museums and attractions in DC, including the Smithsonian, National Mall, and Capital Hill, but you’ll also enjoy a guided tour that explains the history and fun facts at each stop on an electric roadster. Your American history tour continues at the Civil War site of Gettysburg and the Amish village in Lancaster before spending overnight stays in Philadelphia and NYC .

USA Road Trip – Highway 1 and San Francisco

Hollywood Sign Los Angeles

Take a drive down one of the most scenic stretches of highway anywhere in the world on California’s Highway 1.

One of my favourite guided tours in the USA is this 4-day road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway that includes stops at laid-back towns and bustling cities, including Los Angeles , San Luis Obispo, Carmel , and Santa Cruz. But this trip is also a dream if you love the great outdoors. You’ll camp under the stars for 2 of the 3 nights and visit pristine stretches of coastal California at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. End your drive in San Francisco, where you’ll get a quick breakdown of the idyllic Nor Cal city from your guides before setting off on your own.

Outdoor Alaska

Kenai Fjords

Not content staying in the lower 48 on your USA tour? Head to Alaska on this 13-day tour . See the tallest mountain in the USA at Denali, view glaciers and fjords in Kenai Fjords National Park, and (if you’re lucky) catch a peak of the Northern Lights .

You’ll start your journey in Anchorage and set sail on ferries or drive backcountry roads to some of the most celebrated wilderness locales like Wrangell St. Elias National Park and the Tangle Lakes. I love the flexibility of this tour, which allows you to choose your own adventures, like ice climbing, white water rafting, ocean kayaking, and a flight over Denali. Or, stick to the hiking trails and you may see epic wildlife like grizzly bears, moose, and mountain goats.

Hawaii Multi-Island Explorer

Akaka Falls

This 2-week tour begins in Waikiki, where you’ll have an action-packed start with kayaking, snorkelling, and hiking. Drive the iconic Road to Hana in Maui, hike around the gorgeous Waimea Canyon (The Grand Canyon of the Pacific) in Kauai, and finally move to the Big Island, where you’ll explore Volcanoes National Park before enjoying a day of adventure in Kona. One of the best US guided tours, this package covers all airfare and driving between islands, 13 nights in hotels, breakfast every day but one, and guided excursions to Akaka Falls, Kailua Beach kayaking, and a canoe surfing trip.

Practical Tips for Exploring USA Tours

  • When you plan your USA tour, timing matters. If you’re trying to see the autumn colours in New England, want to explore the remote beaches of Big Sur, or hike Utah’s Mighty Five, you’ll want to be sure you’re visiting during the optimal time.
  • Tours of the USA generally focus on one state or region. If you plan to see more of the USA, you can book more than one tour on your holiday.
  • Check the weather for your tours of America. You may need to bring your warmest clothes in the winter and lightweight, loose-fitting outfits in the blazing summer heat. Read my guides on how to pack for different trip itineraries here .
  • USA tour packages are on the expensive side. Plan ahead and use resources like Skyscanner to save money on your flight.
  • The best USA tours fill up fast. Plan your trip as far in advance as possible to score the most popular tours in the United States.
  • Most travel tours in the USA don’t include flights. Factor this into your budget when planning your holiday.

the tour itself was amazing. The national parks do not disappoint. The travel accomodations were very cramped and uncomfortable. I am only 5 foot tall and I was cramped in this 14 passenger van. Food opportunities were limited.
Fantastic experience - efficient use of time, great itinerary. Well-informed and interesting guide who is also just a great person.

Amazing trip to see some of the best of US National Parks. Very educational and fun to learn about the history of the area and meet the locals on various tours and restaurants.

Just couldn’t have been better. Extremely professional guides Robin and Sarah were highly knowledgable, friendly and organised. Accomodation was excellent in every location (most hotels even had hot tubs and pools!) and the food options were always good. Lovely comfortable Mercedes minibus. Highly recommended to everyone - would do another tour with South West Adventure Tours in a heartbeat.
Guide was knowledgeable and helpful. It was a good group

My son and I had a great hiking adventure on the Sedona tour! The scenery was stunning, the hikes were fun! Tolman was an excellent guide, who was very knowledgeable about the area, he had great hiking tips, and he picked some enjoyable challenging hikes for us! He was also an excellent cook! He prepared us some great meals! His positive outlook on everything helped the group of strangers on the trek quickly bond which led us all to have a great hiking experience!
Judd was excellent, and very knowledgable, he was very prepared and i would recommend Intrepid to my friends and family

Excellent. Great guide, driver, weather, hotels, food. Great itenirary. Love love this trip.
Optional excursions were reasonably priced. Suggest you put together other places in each city as a walking guide or short taxi or uber ride. Example access to close by museums open late and could walk to from hotel. Free time activities and what they are and where located is helpful.tour guide can offer to accompany a group interested to explore more during free leisure tome.Provide more detail info about the logistics of site visits. Niagara falls..suggest more water proof gear clothing and shoe types etc. Terrain to expect when visiting certain sites and possible alternatives.climbing and how difficult-easy or more strenuous or advanced climbing activity. Overall, small groups so much better than filling up bus. Thank you for giving single travelers their own bus space. Would love to watch more travel videos on longer driving distances.

Although the tour was very expensive- over $2000 for 3 days is over the top- it wss a great experience, saw lots of wildlife and the guide was outstanding
What an amazing experience this was; from the greeting and pick up by our guide/driver, to the phenomenal sights and the historical references that accompanied them! I am so pleased. This was an exceptionally planned tour that successfully met all of my needs. I would not change a thing and look forward to future adventures with them.

Good time with lots of riding in the van going to interesting places
We had a wonderful time. The tour was well planned and well managed. The CEO was excellent ..good driver, good communicator, had good knowledge of the local attractions and made great recommendations for restaurants. The group we were with was also a very pleasant group which made the experience that much more enjoyable. That said, would have loved to see the accommodations updated.. most except the Denali cabins were old and "weathered".

Globus

  • Excellent - 74,884 reviews for USA tours
This was our second trip on Globus and both experiences were fantastic.
I was skeptical of a group tour, particularly by coach. The experienced guide, Jason, along with driver Shauna, changed my view completely.

My first experience with an organized tour like this. Expense alone will limit future trips. Much more walking than my wife was prepared for. This alone reduced her enjoyment. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and thorough with his planning and execution. Andrew has a fun personality and very personable. One item that disappointed me was the shuttle from airport to resort at both ends of the
Insights Tours are always amazing and this one was no exception. Nice balance of free time to relax and experience Hawaii on your own with visits to places on the islands to experience the culture. Learned a lot of Hawaii’s history throughout our visit. Overall a lovely experience and would highly recommend if you want to visit Hawaii and learn more about the islands.

Infinite Adventures

Infinite Adventures

It was my first group trip and also my first camping trip. I have to say it was one of the best trips I've been on. It was an adventure! We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights at Remote Camp. Tory and Dave took care of everything and made sure everyone had a great time. No matter what problem you had, they always helped each other! Dave cooked delicious food, we had marshmallows by the fire in the evening and it felt like family. It's a great tour and I can only recommend it to anyone! It certainly wasn't my last tour with Infinite Adventure! Many thanks to Tory, Dave and Natalie (who you could ask any question you wanted to know beforehand) for this unforgettable time! :)
Jump on the bus with Infinite Adventures for a magnificent Alaskan expedition! Dave and Tory are excellent guides and will keep you informed about the areas you visit and give expert advice. I found this to be a truly joyful experience!

The Coyote Trip

The Coyote Trip

This trip was run like a school trip, we were told that we had to stick to the schedule rigidly even though I asked several times to visit a different museum/shop. Free time was limited and it seemed like the guide had specific ideas of what he wanted to do and see. Our guide also left us on a subway in New York to get home close to midnight and then we had issues getting checked into the hostel. FYI most tour guides make sure their group gets to the hotel safely and without hassle. Waste of time and money.
From a speedboat to the Statue of Liberty to fireworks on 4th July in Washington to hiking to Yosemite Falls, this trip showcased the very best the USA has to offer. I went on the 21 day Full Cyote trip from New York to San Francisco with my brother. With such a packed itinerary of included activities, it offered great value for money. The guides in every region we visited were excellent. A particular shout out to Ryan, who added in extra stops and experiences based on the group's interests. Other highlights included the Grand Canyon, Washington's museums, whale watching in Boston, cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge and sunset in Griffeths Park. I met a great group of people on the trip, and I wouldn't hesitate to book with the Cyote Trip again.

Masters 2024 Leaderboard: First round scores for golf leaders Thursday at Augusta

Follow  live updates from all the Masters action here or check out our  hole-by-hole analysis of Tiger Woods' first round  at Augusta National.

The best golfers in the world have once again converged at Augusta National Golf Club in search of the coveted green jacket. This is the 88th edition of the annual Masters Tournament , so will we see a brand new winner or will one of the 18 former winners playing in this year's tournament claim the championship yet again?

Day 1 proved to be exhilarating. Not only did we see the early tournament favorite, Scottie Scheffler , prove why so many people were backing him to win, but a few dark horses emerged as well. LIV's Bryson DeChambeau leads the entire field after Day 1, shooting 7-under par on Thursday. Other golfers who weren't given great odds to start the tournament like Danny Willet (-5) and Nicolai Højgaard (-4) also played some incredible rounds. Even Tiger Woods had some great moments and moves into Day 2 ranking inside the top-20 at 1-under.

From NFL plays to college sports scores, all the top sports news you need to know every day.

Three more days are left in this year's tournament, with one round played each day. The cut will happen after Day 2, and only the top-50 players on the leaderboard will advance into Saturday and Sunday. It's unforgiving, but what else can you expect from a tournament as heralded as The Masters.

Here is everything of not to happen during Day 1 of the 2024 Masters Tournament.

Charging elephant kills an American woman on 'bucket list trip' in Zambia

An American woman who was on what she had called her "last big trip" was killed when a charging elephant flipped over the car she was traveling in at a national park in Zambia .

The “aggressive” creature buffeted the vehicle carrying six tourists and a guide, tour operator Wilderness said in a statement Tuesday. It said the 79-year-old victim died after Saturday's incident on a game drive at the Kafue National Park in western Zambia.

The company did not name the victim but Rona Wells, her daughter, identified her as Gail Mattson in a post on Facebook. She said her mother died in a “tragic accident while on her dream adventure.”

A video circulating on social media apparently showing the incident shows a large elephant running toward a car, which slows down as the animal approaches its left side. The elephant then flips the vehicle over and the passengers can be heard gasping as the car rolls over.

NBC News does not know the condition or identity of the person who filmed the video.

Photos shared online of the car, which is emblazoned with the logo of the tour operator, show it tipped onto its side after the incident, with a deep dent in two of its side doors.

Wilderness, which describes itself as a “leading conservation and hospitality company” operating in eight African countries, including Zambia, did not respond to NBC News when asked to confirm the authenticity of the video and the photos.

But the tour operator’s CEO, Keith Vincent, said in the statement that the company’s “guides are all extremely well trained and experienced.”

"Sadly in this instance the terrain and vegetation was such that the guide’s route became blocked and he could not move the vehicle out of harm’s way quickly enough,” he added.

Gail Mattson, during a safari in Zambia

Another woman was also injured in the incident and taken to a medical facility in South Africa, the Wilderness statement said, adding that four others were treated for minor injuries.

“It’s extremely rare to see an elephant that irate,” Marlon du Toit, a wildlife photographer and safari guide, told the “TODAY” show Thursday. “Across Africa, there are thousands and thousands of guests on safari on a daily basis with no negative consequences.”

The exact cause of Mattson’s death was unclear, but the company said her body would be repatriated to her family in the United States with the support of local Zambian authorities and the U.S. Embassy in the capital, Lusaka.

“This is a tragic event and we extend our deepest condolences to the family of the guest who died,” the statement added.

NBC News has reached out to Mattson's family for further comment.

Kafue National Park is Zambia’s largest and oldest national park, according to its website, and spans an area of more than 8,000 square miles. Vast regions of the park remain unexplored and the website says it is home to a variety of untamed wildlife.

A 'bucket list trip'

Mattson spent her winters in Sun City West, Arizona, playing bridge and cards, but during the rest of the year, she "travels all over the world," her friend Brenda Biggs told NBC News. Biggs and her husband, John Longabauth, became friends with Mattson when they moved to the area 6 ½ years ago.

Longabauth said Mattson spoke to the couple about her upcoming safari trip about two weeks ago, and called it "one of her bucket list trips." He said she was very excited for the adventure.

Before she left, she gave the couple concert tickets for a show that would happen while she was traveling, telling them to enjoy the concert and "I'll see you when I get back," Longabauth recalled of the conversation.

Biggs said Mattson, who was almost 80 years old, told her that the African safari was her "my last big trip." She said Mattson was "super excited because it was like the culmination of all the trips that she had gone on."

An avid traveler, Mattson took to trips to Europe and Asia, Longabauth recalled, noting that she might have been to South America, too.

Biggs called her friend "flamboyant," "friendly" and "fabulous" and said she loved bright colors. Mattson had taken over Biggs’ job as the event planner for their 200-member bridge club, she said.

"Gail was one of the more up people you'd ever want to meet," Longabauth said. "She was always up. She was always optimistic. She was always seeing the good side of everybody."

Jack nicklaus, gary player, tom watson want 'best outcome' of pga tour-liv dispute, share this article.

national usa tour

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Watson want to see the PGA Tour-LIV Golf dispute get settled.

Speaking during a joint press conference after the three legends hit the ceremonial tee shots to the 88 th edition of the Masters , Watson shared a special moment during the Champions Dinner , which brought together 33 of the past winners – seven of them members of LIV – in their Green Jackets and Augusta National Golf Club Chairman Fred Ridley, on Tuesday evening.

“We were sitting down and we were having great stories about Seve Ballesteros and people were laughing and talking. I said to Mr. Ridley, I said, ‘Do you mind if I say something about being here together with everybody?’ He said, ‘Please do.’

“And I got up and I said – I’m looking around the room, and I’m seeing just a wonderful experience everybody is having. They are jovial. They are having a great time. They are laughing. I said, ‘Ain’t it good to be together again?’ ” Watson recalled.

He added that he hoped the players would take it upon themselves to reach a resolution, sooner rather than later.

“We have to do something,” Watson said. “We all know it’s a difficult situation for professional golf right now. The players really kind of have control I think in a sense. What do they want to do? We’ll see where it goes. We don’t have the information or the answers. I don’t think the PGA Tour or the LIV Tour really have an answer right now. But I think in this room, I know the three of us want to get together. We want to get together like we were at that Champions Dinner, happy, the best players playing against each other. The bottom line: that’s what we want in professional golf, and right now, we don’t have it.”

Nicklaus echoed that sentiment and placed his trust in PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan to lead the way.

“The best outcome is the best players play against each other all the time. That’s what I feel about it. And how it’s going, I don’t know, I don’t want to be privy to it,” Nicklaus said. “I talked to Jay not very long ago, and I said, ‘Jay, don’t tell me what’s going on because I don’t want to have to lie to the press and people that ask me questions.’ I said, ‘How are you doing?’ He said, ‘We’re doing fine.’ I said, “OK, that’s all I want to know.’ If Jay thinks we’re doing fine, we’ll get there, I think we’ll get there. And I certainly hope that happens, the sooner the better.”

Player touched on how that division in golf and attention on the greed in the game has turned off the public. But he also noted that the players who had stayed loyal to the PGA Tour needed to be compensated in some way (which they will be through the infusion of capital into the Tour’s new for-profit arm from private equity investment.)

“Anytime in any business whatsoever, not only in the golf business, there’s confrontation, it’s unhealthy. You’ve got to get together and come to a solution. If you cannot, it’s not good. The public don’t like it, and we as professionals don’t like it, either,” Player said. “But it’s a big problem because they paid all these guys to join the LIV Tour fortunes, I mean, beyond one’s comprehension and the players that were loyal, three of us and others. Now these guys come back and play, I really believe the players, that if they are loyal, should be compensated in some way or another. Otherwise, there’s going to be dissension.”

Wise words from three of the all-time greats, who still care deeply about the state of professional golf.

Masters 2024 props, golf odds: Expert reveals top PGA Tour prop bets, parlay picks for Augusta National

Mike mcclure locked in his expert pga golf prop picks and parlay for the masters 2024 at augusta national.

national usa tour

The first 2024 Masters tee times will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET on Thursday after weather delayed the start of the opening round. At 100-1 to win outright in the 2024 Masters odds, it's unlikely that Tiger Woods will pick up his sixth career green jacket this week at the Masters 2024. However, there are still plenty of intriguing Masters Tiger props on the board for golf bettors to consider before he tees off. The latest 2024 Masters prop bets list Woods' Round 1 score over/under at 73.5, with the Over favored at -165 (risk $165 to win $100).

Other Tiger prop picks include a top-10 overall finish paying +900 and a top-20 performance returning +350. Which 2024 Masters props should you target involving Woods and every other golfer in the 2024 Masters field? Before locking in your 2024 Masters prop picks or entering Masters pool picks, you need to see what SportsLine DFS pro and PGA expert Mike McClure has to say .

McClure is a DFS legend with over $2 million in career winnings, and he's been red-hot on his PGA picks dating back to the PGA Tour restart in June of 2020. McClure uses his proprietary simulation model to analyze the field and crush his  golf picks . He is up almost $9,500 on his best bets since the restart.

McClure's model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed McClure's picks has seen massive returns.

Now, McClure has dialed in on the Masters golf tournament and just locked in his top prop picks and PGA predictions. You can only see McClure's Masters 2024 prop picks at SportsLine .

Top 2024 Masters prop picks

We can tell you that one of McClure's favorite Masters prop picks is Ludvig Aberg to be the top debutant at +275. Despite turning pro less than a year ago, Aberg comes to Augusta in strong form. He's already picked up wins on both the PGA Tour and European Tour in the past seven months.

He's also made every cut during his 2024 PGA Tour schedule and hasn't finished worse than 25th in his past six events. His average finish position during that span is 12.8 and he's posted four rounds of 66 or lower this year, including an astonishing 63 in Round 4 of the Sentry. Wyndham Clark is the only other first-time Masters player who can claim a comparable recent run to Aberg, so McClure loves the value of betting on Aberg at a return that approaches 3-1.  You can see who else to back at SportsLine .

How to make Masters 2024 prop picks

McClure has also locked in a slew of other prop bets for the 2024 Masters, including a prop that pays almost 20-1 and comes from an unlikely player. You can find out who it is, and check out all of McClure's Masters prop picks at SportsLine .

Who wins the Masters 2024, and which golfer should you target for almost a 20-1 payout? Visit SportsLine now to get Mike McClure's Masters 2024 prop picks, all from the golf expert who is up almost $9,500 on his best bets since 2020 , and find out.
