caravan rockies tour

  • Spend two days at your leisure in Calgary
  • Pick up your RV from the depot
  • Drive to Banff, located at the heart of the Rocky Mountains
  • Drive the famous Icefields Parkway to Jasper

Days 1 - 2: UK to Calgary

On arrival in Calgary, you'll spend two nights in a centrally-located hotel. Here, you can explore lively downtown which is full of western boutiques, great restaurants and live music venues playing everything from country to jazz.

You'll have plenty of time to spend exploring the city, so we recommend taking in the views from the Calgary Tower Observation Deck or stepping back in time at the Heritage Park Historical Village.

Day 3 - 5: Banff

Distance: 150 km / 93 miles

On day three, you'll pick up your RV from the depot and begin your journey with the drive to Banff. Located at the heart of the Rocky Mountains, you'll be able to explore Banff and its surroundings at your leisure. You'll have plenty of time to see the sights, including Lake Minnewanka, the Vermilion Lakes and Johnston Canyon. Sulphur Mountain is worth a visit, and here you can dip in the hot pools or take the gondola to the top of the mountain.

Days 6 - 7: Jasper

Distance: 289 km / 180 miles

Today you’ll drive the famous Icefields Parkway as you head from Banff to Jasper. Whilst it’s possible to drive the Parkway in three hours, we suggest a more leisurely pace to enjoy the scenery. Crystal blue lakes, glaciers and impressive waterfalls await, and be sure to look out for wildlife as you'll frequently spot everything from deer to black bears from the road. Make sure you see the Crowfoot Glacier and famous Peyto Lake, do a glacier tour at the Columbia Icefields and marvel at the beauty of Lake Louise.

On day seven you're free to explore Jasper National Park. Perhaps take a cruise on Maligne Lake, take a raft trip along the canyon or visit the flowered alpine meadows and glacier of Mount Edith Cavell. You could also hike on top of Whistler Mountain or take a dip in the historic Miette Hot Springs.

Days 8 - 14: Wells Gray Provincial Park to Whistler

caravan rockies tour

  • Follow the Yellowhead Highway through Mount Robson Provincial Park
  • Discover wildlife, waterfalls and wilderness in Wells Gray Provincial Park
  • Visit Sun Peaks and Cache Creek
  • Take the Peak 2 Peak Gondola in Whistler

Days 8 - 9: Wells Gray Provincial Park

Distance: 320 km / 199 miles

Follow the Yellowhead Highway through Mount Robson Provincial Park, continuing through the Cariboo Mountains to Clearwater and on to Wells Gray Provincial Park.

Wells Gray Provincial Park is famous for wildlife, waterfalls and wilderness. You'll find everything from black bears to mountain goats here, and we recommend visits to Dawson Falls and Helmcken Falls, both of which plunge down into beautiful mist-filled gorges.

Day 10: Cache Creek

Distance: 207 km / 129 miles

Today you’ll be following Highway 5 along the North Thompson River; the valley stretches over 200 miles from Mount Robson and the Canadian Rockies in the north to its southern tip close to Kamloops. From Kamloops you’ll head west through the desert-like climate to Cache Creek, a town that was built from the fur trade.

Days 11 - 13: Whistler

Distance: 215 km / 134 miles

Head through the scenic Coastal Mountains on today’s journey to Whistler and stop at Duffey and Joffre Lakes for some stunning views.

Whistler is another stunning ski resort that also offers plenty of activities in the summer months. We recommend taking the Peak 2 Peak Gondola for amazing mountain scenery. You could also take a seaplane for a flight over the mountains and glaciers or try a 4WD tour across the mountains in search of bears.

Days 15 - 20: Vancouver to Revelstoke

caravan rockies tour

  • Drive the Sea to Sky Highway
  • Explore Vancouver at your leisure
  • Visit Oliver, known as the wine capital of Canada
  • Drive along the Okanagan Lake to Revelstoke

Days 14 - 16: Vancouver

Distance: 170 km / 106 miles

Today you’ll be driving the scenic Sea to Sky Highway along the shores of the Pacific Ocean. There’s so much to see along this route including waterfalls and a copper mine. We recommend a visit to see the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain both of which are located just outside of Vancouver.

You’ll have two full days to explore the seaside city of Vancouver and its stunning surrounds. A visit to Stanley Park is a must, but you should also try and head to Chinatown, Gastown and Granville Island too.

Days 17 - 18: Okanagan Valley

Distance: 383 km / 238 miles

From Vancouver you’ll be driving along the Crowsnest Pass (Highway 3) which runs from Hope at the east end of the Fraser Valley all the way east to the British Columbia-Alberta border in the Rockies. As well as taking in the spectacular scenery we suggest visiting the Othello Tunnels near Hope and exploring the beautiful Manning Park.

Take a trip into Oliver which is known as the wine capital of Canada. Here you can tour the wineries of the Golden Mile and Black Sage Road.

Days 19 - 20: Revelstoke

Distance: 291 km / 181 miles

Today you’ll be driving along the scenic Okanagan Lake where you can enjoy the views of the Okanagan Valley as you make your way to Revelstoke. Explore the beautiful downtown area of Kelowna, step back in time at the Historic O’Keefe Ranch in Vernon and stop by some of the many wineries, orchards and fruit stands along the way.

There’s plenty to see around Revelstoke. You could explore the Monashee and Selkirk Mountains, visit the Revelstoke Dam, try canoeing or take a drive along the Meadows in the Sky Parkway to the top of Mount Revelstoke for some great views.

Days 21 - 25: Radium Hot Springs to Calgary

  • Take an interpretive hike in Kootenay National Park
  • Return your motorhome to the depot

Radium Hot Springs has it all, from the natural hot springs to skiing, golf and fine dining, you'll be spoiled for a choice of things to do. Plus, it’s surrounded by the most beautiful scenery you can imagine.

Days 23: Kananaskis

Distance: 159 km / 99 miles

As you drive through Kootenay National Park you’ll find many easy interpretive hikes, scenic viewpoints, hot springs, picnic areas, and roadside interpretive exhibits. From here you'll head to Kananaskis, which is made up of over 10 provincial parks and wildlife reserves. It's a haven for all kinds of wildlife, including bear, moose, elk, mountain goats and sheep, so make sure you've got your camera at the ready.

Days 24: Kananskis to Calgary

Distance: 85 km / 53 miles

Return your motorhome to the depot and then transfer to your Calgary hotel for an overnight stay and a Farewell Dinner.

Cinque Terre Magnifica Hiking Tour

Cinque Terre Magnifica Hiking Tour

Tour operator, caravan tours.

Caravan Tours began selling fully escorted tours in 1952. We have been under the same management and ownership ever since. In 1965, Roger Mudd hosted a two hours CBS TV special on Caravan Tours. This TV production took about one month to make and was so successful it inspired the 1968 romantic comedy movie “If it’s Tuesday this must be Belgium.” In the early 50’s the Mayor of Dublin presented Caravan with the Key to Dublin for bringing the first American tour to the city after WWII. Since then Caravan has been recognized as a pioneer in travel.

Great Value, Book Early

Caravan’s strong buying power gives you great vacations at prices much lower than you can find anywhere. Last year many of our tours sold out quickly. Book early for the date you prefer and the best airfare.

How does Caravan Tours sell these tours for such a low cost? Caravan delivers volume to our suppliers, who in turn reward us with their very best  prices we, in turn, pass these savings on to you, and you reward us by buying our tours.  As volume continues to rise, we then receive even better prices from our suppliers, and  we pass even greater savings on to you. This year our tours are better than ever. How satisfied are Caravan clients? The short answer is “very.” Our surveys are uniformly very positive. However we  continually strive to improve our tours, (they are often updated several times in the  course of one year), we study all client surveys and suggestions for improvement very  carefully. Pitch-Free Travel : Caravan includes all activities listed in the tour itinerary page. Caravan does not  sell any optional activities which can add hundreds of dollars to your tour price. Your  free time is scheduled in great settings where there is no need to buy additional  expensive activities.

During your visit to Glacier National Park, board a world famous “Red Jammer,” the historical red buses that have been a fixture in that park since 1936 (weather and road conditions permitting). Originally built and designed specifically for sightseeing in the National Park System of the United States of America, these 25-foot-long vintage touring coaches were fully restored in 2000 by the Ford Motor Company and are the only remaining buses of their kind in operation today. With a unique canvas roll back top and individual doors for each row, these charming open-air buses are ideal for absorbing the startling beauty of the high mountain peaks, glaciers, waterfalls, and cedar forests that surround the spectacular Going-to-the-Sun-Highway. Keep a lookout for wildlife roaming the mountainsides, including Rocky Mountain Goats. When the weather gets cooler, warm wool blankets are provided for your laps, but coats and scarves are advisable.

Your four passenger gondola cabin will transport you to the summit at an elevation of 7,486 feet (2,281m) above sea level. The total ride takes just 8 minutes each way. At the summit, you will enjoy 360 degree views of six mountain ranges comprising the heart of the Canadian Rockies from the roof top observation area and view decks. These are some of the most spectacular mountain views in the world and are why the area has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can also explore the Summit Ridge interpretive boardwalk, a 1km long elevated board-walk that leads you along Sulphur Mountain’s summit ridge to the Cosmic Ray Station National Historic Site of Canada, and the historic Sanson’s Meteorological Station.

During your stay in Banff, you will enjoy a gentle float trip on Canada’s “Jewel of The Rockies", the scenic Bow River. Located just below the Banff townsite, this glacier fed stretch of river winds though forested islands and Rocky cliffs of incredible beauty inside Banff National Park. The Park is home to over 53 species of mammals, such as beaver, elk, coyote, black bear, bighorn sheep, and more, including 260 species birds. Floating along the Bow River is a perfect way to intimately experience Banff's natural mountain beauty. Each raft seats approximately 15 passengers and has an experienced guide. It helps people to advise if you link the trip you are considering, as was suggested previously by krp on your post to the Canada forum. Is this the one?

http://www.caravan.com/tour/canada-rockies

Yes that is the one, the 9 day trip thru the Canadian Rockies and Glacier park. Any help?

Thank you for your helpful comments.

if you want an easy fixed schedule, the tours are all pretty much the same. Stay away from the big companies like Brewsters - they've been around too long and they're pretty blase about customer service. They also take you to all their own sites, where you can expect to pay a LOT extra for ho-him excursions.

"This was a totally awesome and magnificent tour. Our first with Caravan and now certainly not our last, we couldn’t be more pleased. It went way above all our expectations. Extremely great value. Most spectacular place we have ever visited with the possible exception of the Grand Canyon. Timing of all the stops was excellent. Day after day we were amazed beyond words by the beauty of the sites visited. Don’t omit any stops. Information, history, stories and jokes from our director were outstanding, the most awesome we have ever had. She helped everyone on our bus in one way or another. I would love to have her on every tour and we would recommend this tour over and over." Mr. & Mrs. D.G., Greenwood, Indiana
"This was our 7th Caravan tour. Needless to say, we keep coming back because we have great experiences on Caravan tours. Our lives are enriched on every tour by the places we visit and by the people we meet. The places we went, the things we saw, and the activities we experienced fulfilled my expectations for this trip. In every direction, the scenery was stunning...so beautiful. There were plenty of great activities such as the float on the Bow River, walking on the glacier, the cruise to Goat Haunt and the Peace Park, the gondola in Banff, the Red Jammer tour in Glacier...everything. Yet, there was enough time to explore on our own." Mr. C.R., Lebanon, Pennsylvania
"This tour was so much fun and sold us on Caravan. This was our first Caravan tour following multiple trips with numerous other companies, including a previous one to the Canadian Rockies with another company. For the money, the Caravan Tour is a thorough and very enjoyable tour, good accommodations and an excellent value. Couldn’t believe what quality we got for such a low cost! As each day passed, the sights became more and more impressive, the mountains higher and more snow capped, culminating in the Columbia Icefield. Despite the cold, we were so happy that our director did everything on our itinerary. He was our all time favorite tour guide. So well-organized, professional, amiable and well-versed in the Canadian Rockies. Every day had its special moments, a complete itinerary. We had a wonderful time! We were pleased with every accommodation where we stayed. Great accommodations for comfort, accessibility, and service. Loved the Jasper House cabins and Banff Lodge." Mr. & Mrs. W.H., Berea, Ohio
"A very refreshing, nature-filled trip. Excellent, beautiful scenery was absolutely breathtaking. In AWE of the views at Lake Moraine and Lake Louise. Although the weather was not typical for the time of our visit, we loved every bit of the variety of cold, snow, rain, and sun that we experienced. Loved the Red Jammer Road to the Sun. River rafting in the snow was fabulous. Glacier field was breathtaking. Ample time for rest and photo stops of views to have as cherished memories of this tour." Mr. & Mrs. D.W., Vacherie, Louisiana
"A special family trip to celebrate my husband’s retirement. Loved the tour in full. The best trip I have ever taken. Just loved it. Our sightseeing and activities could not have been better. The Rockies were great. I enjoyed every activity and this is why I chose Caravan Canadian Rockies tour. Each day just got better and better. Everyday we kept saying “can’t get any better” and every day we were wrong. Just gorgeous. We got to see a lot but didn’t feel rushed, it was just right. The trip was broken up and we were able to stretch when tired of traveling. Our director was exceptional. The added knowledge of the area complemented each and every sight that we got to see. Words cannot begin to express our director’s expertise and his presentational skills, the best ever. I will use Caravan again." Mrs. & Mr. S.L., Murrysville, Pennsylvania
"It was our first Caravan tour. We were amazed at how smoothly it all went. We were awestruck by the scenery and by the friendly ambiance of our travel group. We were glad to have walking available to whatever extent we wanted or could manage. Loved the wide range of offerings, rafting, gondola, Red Jammer ride, awesome scenery, seeing the stampede grounds. Excellent to have rotation of seats!! A smooth, expertly ride with local info and a tidy coach, our driver was a true gentleman. A very wide range of places to stay and something for everyone in the group, well done!" Mr. & Mrs. P.W., Polo, Illinois
"Without a doubt, this was the best tour I have been on. Worth every dollar. The sights were the most beautiful I have ever seen and the stops, attractions, guides, free time, and overall schedule was just perfect. Perfect selection of activities and free time. Where to start! The cruise on Waterton Lake and dinner with friends was great. Our guide on the boat did a great job explaining everything we were seeing. The Red Jammer ride and Sun Highway and everything associated with that day was absolutely amazing. The drivers were outstanding and the scenery and wildlife was breathtaking. While we experienced fog going up Sulphur Mountain on the gondola, the views at the top were out of this world. Then the fog lifted and what a sight! All the other stops like Lake Louise and the many waterfalls were great additions to the trip. I would have not wanted to miss any of them. We saw so much more than I expected and I think because of the way our TD managed the tour and the group, we all developed personal relationships with each other early on in the tour and the entire group worked together to make sure no one was left out. Everything went just like clockwork and we had nothing to think about except to enjoy and take in the beauty of the country. Leave the work to Caravan! Another great tour, thanks!!" Mr. W.S., Dayton, Ohio
