4-Day Islay & the Whisky Coast Small-Group Tour from Edinburgh Including Admissions
The Rabbie's 4-Day Islay & the Whisky Coast was a great vacation. We visited the major distilleries on Islay as well as some smaller ones. The hotel was located right near Bowmore and had a really good breakfast (included). Our tour guide, Al, was great. He had lots of interesting bits of information. Some small some big things about Scotland. We also stopped at a bunch of historical sites too. Only issue is that July and August are the 'quiet season' for many distilleries. Most of the distilleries didn't have tours. All of them were open for tastings. That's the main attraction for this tour.

4 Day Islay Whisky Tour
This is part of the email I sent to Scottish Routes: "The itinerary was excellent – very well planned; the accommodation on Islay was most pleasant, hosts Andrew and Alison vey hospitable; we were fortunate to travel with a very interesting and varied group of people and the transport provided was very comfortable. Unfortunately we had the tour guide from hell - Moray. Moray was extremely rude, crude, unapproachable, obnoxious, ignorant and insensitive. He drove at excessive and dangerous speeds along the narrow roads, becoming extremely impatient with other drivers, cursing them in no uncertain terms and constantly tailgating. Not even the rain slowed him down. If a passenger asked a question that he had already answered he would call them stupid and tell them that they should have listened the first time. He had zero tolerance for anyone who was not back on board at the designated time and let them know he was annoyed. A further example of his poor behaviour is when a passenger asked the source of electricity on Islay. He was driving and initially seemed to ignore the question (this was not unusual) and then threw his hands up in the air and said that it fell out of the sky. There were many more examples of his unprofessional behaviour but I am sure you get the picture."
Loch Ness, Inverness & The Highlands - from Edinburgh
Visited great sites. Very friendly guide who also told us a lot about the places and history. Absolutely worth its money.
Scottish Highlands & Islands
Guide Margerie and Driver Allister excellent. The tour occasionally strenuous; bus rides whole day. Bus quite confortable; Wi-Fi appreciated. Expected more meals included. Big Tour group - 44 Pax - a bit too many for my taste. When I inquired I was told max will be 35.....for me more acceptable. Hotel's fine except Isle of Skye: "Dunollie"- I had a claustrophobic room; no idea where to put my suitcase. After all the add. single room supplement is not little. Itinerary very interesting.

Best of Scotland (Winter, 7 Days)
Rose Brown made our trip wonderful. For the entire coach tour from October 12, 2019 through October 24, 2019, Rose was upbeat, personable and always made herself available. She took the time to get to know each of us personally and shared some fun stories from her life experiences. She kept our crew organized and dealt with all of our personalities and constant requests and inquiries seamlessly. She adjusted our plans based on the weather and construction in order to ensure we were able to see all of the places on our itinerary and the places we had personally requested to see. We never had to wait in a line, or for a meal as everything was taken care of before we arrived at each destination. Rose was very knowledgeable regarding all things Scotland and is passionate about her trade. Thank you Rose! It was a great experience. Colleen McKeon

Scotland Coach / Bus Tour Reviews
I had a great trip with MacBackpackers! Tim was a fabulous guide and full of information about Scottish history. Would recommend if you are coming to explore Scotland.
This tour was absolutely brilliant! Branka, the guide, was the best. She made everything we wanted come true, even the silliest request to ''find the end of the rainbow'', but Branka somehow managed it. Her stories about the history, legends and sights of Scotland were captivating. On the last day, due to high winds, we couldn't leave the Isle of Skye in the morning. Branka went out of her way to make the trip unforgettable and stopped to show us more of the Isle of Skye and somehow managed to find some Highland Coo (which we all really wanted to see). The hostel we stayed in was booked for this trip and was so comfortable, clean and warm. I would 100% do this trip again to spend more time with Branka, she really is magical!
We thoroughly enjoyed our Bonnie Scotland tour. The location was beautiful and the trip well organized. Our tour guide, Gavin, was simply the best. Loved the experience!!

Express Scotland, October 2019
Absolutely love working with nordic visitor.
I have already traveled twice with Nordic Visitor, and am already in the process of booking a third trip! Absolutely love working with you! Every bed and breakfast we stayed at was amazing. The hosts were so welcoming with great suggestions of things to do and places to eat. The rooms were very comfortable, and the amenities were awesome!
Express Scotland, May 2019
Explore family ancestry.
We went to explore family ancestry, I inquired with several different companies and Sarah was the only one to reply with information, and stops in the itinerary on the Clan Comyns. She did her homework to plan our trip.
Scottish Highlands Classic, October 2019
Wonderful accommodations.
The accommodations mapped out for us were wonderful. All were 3star or higher rated B&Bs and they were all centrally located to attractions and historic landmarks we wanted to see. That fact alone made it really easy for us to walk or drive A short distance to sites or activities we were interested in doing on the trip, which made the experience very enjoyable. Both taxi services hired to pick us up and drop us off from the airport we're amazing as well. The taxi driver picking us up was especially helpful and even gave us a brief driving tour of Edinburgh the first day we arrived.
Scottish Highlands & Isle of Skye, September 2020
The best holidays we have ever had.
Superb!! Our first ever 'touring' holiday and right up there with the best holidays we have ever had. We are not youngsters, so this was taken on with a bit of trepidation, but were soon put at ease by the sheer quality of accommodation provided along with the superb travel itinerary book (yes, it's that thick and detailed) and map. Even though we often used local recommendations, these became our trusted companions throughout the week - and are now valued reminders of an exceptional holiday - Thankyou Nordic Visitor, we will be back!
Crystal, United States
Classic scotland & the orkney islands, september 2019, wonderful experience.
Thank you so much! Our experience in Scotland was wonderful! We felt prepared for what to expect, particularly as it relates to making dinner reservations on the islands we visited. The food recommendations were excellent , the accommodations were cozy, and the recommendations for sites and attractions greatly appreciated. A special thank you to Agne who answered all my inquiries, helped us make dinner reservations and confirmed all our dates and meeting times - she was a pleasure to work with!
Scottish Highlands, May 2019
Worry-free travel experience.
Our agent, Agne, did a wonderful job dealing with us. All questions were answered and her trip planning resulted in one of our most enjoyable and worry free travel experiences.
Classic Scotland, September 2020
Excellent trip.
All accommodations were excellent with very friendly hosts. Car rental pickup was very quick and easy and car was excellent. Rebecca was excellent, she took all our requirements and made a personal tour for us. Her attention to detail was excellent. The documents at our first hotel were excellent especially the map with everything marked on for us.
Scottish Highlands & Isle of Skye, June 2019
A positive experience, beginning to end.
This tour was a positive experience for us, beginning to end. The planning by Nordic Visitor was complete, thoughtful, and worked flawlessly. Scotland was stunning and most interesting - we just wish we had more time. To Nordic Visitor: Great Job! We'll be back!
John and Kathryn
Grand tour of scotland, june 2019, everything ran as smoothly as clockwork.
My husband and I wanted to hire a car and travel extensively throughout northern Scotland which included the Orkney Islands, and the other beautiful islands in far northern Scotland. From the day we contacted Agne Dobrovolskyte at Nordic Visitor, everything ran as smoothly as clockwork! Agne knew exactly what we wanted; all the Bed & Breakfast places she booked on our behalf right throughout Scotland were absolutely perfect, centrally located near all facilities, managed by wonderful, friendly hosts and included delicious, plentiful breakfasts. The car Agne booked for us was reliable and the perfect (compact) size to negotiate the narrow, single lane roads you frequently experience in northern Scotland (especially on the northern Scottish islands). Agne gave us the benefit of her experience of Scotland with wonderful suggestions on what to see and do - suggestions and advice that we were glad we followed. Everything Agne did and organised, made our road trip throughout the beautiful country of Scotland a wonderful and memorable experience. For anyone wanting to deal with a high-achieving travel company that is absolutely professional and efficient, we highly recommend Nordic Visitor and, in particular, Agne Dobrovolskyte, who proved to be a very competent, friendly and knowledgeable travel agent. Thank you, Agne!"
Gary, Canada
Scottish highlands & isle of skye - winter, november 2019, the accommodations, destinations and car were great.
The tour went very well. All the accommodation was excellent. We are very pleased with all the arrangements and communications that we had with Rebecca. The accommodations, destinations and car were great. Our only wish is that we would have had more time at some of the locations. We had a hard time packing it all in!
Express Scotland, July 2019
Nothing but great words to say about nordic visitor.
We were thrilled with all of our accommodations. All hosts/hostesses were very friendly and we felt very welcomed. The rental car service was also very good and thorough. And we felt as though everyone had a good working relationship as the businesses had nothing but great words to say about Nordic Visitor so we felt good that everyone was working together to make our visit a great one!
Grand Tour of Scotland, August 2019
Excellent information and documents.
Having used another tour company for Ireland and England just before this section of our trip I can say with one hundred percent truth that your information and documents were excellent! When we saw a paper map was included and daily ideas for the itinerary we were so happy. We didn't need electricity or wifi, we could just look at the map! An overall view like that was so much easier to use.

Tour Itinerary
Tour information, tour route map.
On our Isle of Skye tour from Edinburgh we travel via Glasgow to the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. We’ll make our first stop at the charming village of Luss which sits on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.
Sparkling lochs, tumbling waterfalls and majestic Munros takes us to Rannoch Moor and Glencoe. We’ll stop at Scotland’s most famous glen and hear about the infamous Glencoe Massacre of 1692, when the MacDonald’s were slaughtered by the Campbells.
At Glenfinnan we’ll climb up to the viewpoint for stunning views of Glenfinnan and Loch Shiel. You’ll see the 21 arches of the Glenfinnan Viaduct curve through the glen as the route to Harry Potter’s Hogwarts.
We’ll get off the beaten track for views over Loch Duich and the Five Sisters of Kintail before travelling over the bridge to the Isle of Skye.
Your friendly driver-guide has the flexibility to ensure you see the best of the island whatever the weather. Skye never disappoints – there is just so much to see.
You can’t miss Skye’s Mountain range, the Black Cuillins, which adorn calendars and paintings the world over. The sparkling crystal-clear waters of the Fairy Pools lie at the foot of the Cuillins and make for great photos, or even a spot of wild swimming!
We’ll have time to explore Portee and enjoy some lunch before we head to the Trotternish Peninsula. The awe-inspiring scenery never seems to stop, and we’ll get spectacular views at the Quiraing, Mealt Falls and Kilt Rock before we reach the famous landscape of the Old Man of Storr.
We cross the Skye Bridge on to the mainland and Eilean Donan Castle*. The castle sits on an island at a point where three great sea lochs meet, surrounded by majestic highland scenery. Eilean Donan was used in many films including Highlander and James Bond epic, The World is Not Enough.
The village of Fort Augustus lies at the southern end of Loch Ness and is lunch stop. You can enjoy an optional cruise on Loch Ness or take a stroll along the Caledonian Canal.

22/03/23 – Helen and Whitney-May
This was just the most wonderful experience and I would like to commend you and Jerry (our tour guide) on what will likely be the absolute highlight of our trip to the UK (we still have a little while here but you’re going to be hard to beat!) A million thank you’s for this experience. It was all round amazing, from every annoying enquiry I sent last minute to the office, through to the on-the-ground offering. The carefully researched commentary, lovely bus, caring on time guest service levels provided by Jerry and well, the scenery -though not your making 🙂 – was next level heavenly. I cannot recommend your tour more highly! Warm regards.
17/03/23 – Taylor
We LOVED our tour with Discover Scotland! Our guide Michael was amazing we could not have ask for anyone better. We enjoyed our whole trip from the bus rides hearing stories, history, songs and much more about Scotland, to our quick picture stops, all our longer spots where we had time to explore, and our free time in Kyleakin. We felt like our interests were heard by our guide and we were given options and suggestions to do things we would enjoy. The only thing we wished we could change was staying longer. We are very thankful for our guide and discover scotland for everything. Thanks for everything
02 /11/ 22 – Sergio
I had a wonderful time with Discover Scotland Tours. We had an amazing tour guide also our driver named Jerry! The tour had plenty of photographic stops from day 1. Driving through the Highlands into the Isle of Skye and to Loch ness the group and I could feel the magic Scottish atmosphere. Thank you Jerry for taking care of every single one of us and thank you Discover Scotland Tours for this fantastic experience.
10/10/22 – Vanessa
We had an amazing time! John our guide was perfect! I can’t say enough good things about him! He obviously loves his job and the island. I appreciated how you kept in touch with me leading up to the tour and how responsive and clearly you answered my questions. I will most definitely recommend John Black and your company to everyone willing to hear me go on about what an amazing experience we had. Thank you for everything and with some luck we will be making more plans with your company.
19/08/22 – Kylie + Corbin
Our 3-day Isle of Skye tour with Scott was unforgettable! Despite road closures to start the trip, Scott maintained positivity that radiated throughout the group. Each day brought adventure and memories that we will always cherish. It’s easy to see that Scott loves people and Scotland as he went out of his way to make sure everyone got to see and do what they set out to. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and guide!
02/08/22 – Angelina
My friends and I recently went on the Isle of Skye, Highlands, and Loch Ness 3-day tour from Edinburgh, and it was the highlight of our vacation! Our tour guide, John Black, was quite the character. Throughout the whole trip, he was super cheery and always cracking jokes. His personal anecdotes, vast knowledge, and captivating story-telling provided us with a unique glimpse into the Scottish people, culture, and history. John was extremely accommodating for everyone on the tour, making frequent stops for bathroom breaks and food throughout the day. The bus itself was very comfortable, with AC and plenty of space for everyone, and had great views no matter where one sat. Our accommodation was booked through Discover Scotland as well, at Winklebeech bnb in Kyleakin. It had a quaint and homey vibe, and the owner was super welcoming. She was also extremely accommodating to our dietary restrictions and even offered us some bug spray after seeing all of our midge bites! The rooms were tidy and comfortable, with all the necessities one may need. We managed to hit all the destinations on the tour, and it ran very smoothly with no delays. We were especially in awe with the Isle of Skye- It’s a must-see for everyone who visits Scotland! Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend Discover Scotland Tours and would visit again in a heartbeat!
28 /07/22 – Roxanne
We had a wonderful time and it was through this tour that Scotland came alive for us. Our Tour Leader made a point of getting to know each of us. In between the gorgeous countryside and the historical background Michael provided, he played songs told amusing stories and made it us feel like we were all part of one family. There were lots of stops for the bathroom and food as well. He was patient answering all of our questions and was respectful of the country’s we came from. We loved this tour and will be talking about it for quite some time. Also good value for our money.
11/07/22 – Darryl
We were very happy with our three day tour. This being our first, and probably only trip to Scotland, we appreciated the variety of things we saw and the general information about your country.
We were especially impressed with our tour guide, John Sheedy. In addition to being an all-around nice guy, he was very attentive to everyone’s needs and well prepared with interesting stories. Having grown up on the isle of Skye was a bonus. John conveyed his genuine love and pride of Scotland and made our trip fun and comfortable.
01/07/22 – Jessica
Mark and I had THE BEST weekend. It’s my first time in Scotland, and although it was a whirlwind, I’m excited to get back and spend more time in certain places. Accommodation was great, Garry was FANTASTIC. So warm and bubbly and knowledgeable and fun. We’re both quite introverted and I was overwhelmed and missing my children and we never once felt pressured or intruded on, but also Garry made us both feel so seen and included, I was so grateful for how he handled us. Lots of stops, would be good to have a bit more time in some places, but I also really liked ticking lots of things off my list. It was also really relaxing, I slept on the bus all the time – as a parent it was just so lovely to not have to worry about ANYTHING. Garry added a few fun things in that I wasn’t expecting which was so great! Lots of Harry Potter stops! A DINOSAUR FOOTPRINT! I just loved every minute. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I hope you add some northern Scotland tours! Let me know if you do.
10/06/22 – Gráinne
My tour was the Isle of Skye, the Highlands & Loch Ness 3 day tour with Gary. The itinerary was great. Loved all the stops. Loads of time at each stop , didn’t feel rushed. Our tour guide, Gary, was fantastic. He had loads of fun facts and quips and kept us all motivated even though the weather was against us. Will definitely recommend Gary and the tour to anyone!

What about my accommodation?
Your tour excludes accommodation. During the tour booking process you will be asked if you are booking your own accommodation or whether you wish us to reserve this on your behalf?

Please contact us to let us know the name of the accommodation you have reserved.

It’s best to come prepared with a travel sickness preventative, whether that be medicinal, wristbands or another option, to ensure it doesn’t impact your overall enjoyment of the tour.

Tours from Edinburgh
Tours from edinburgh, the capital of scotland.
Is your home haunted? Ours is. The misty streets of Edinburgh whisper of scorned lovers, exiled heroes, and scandalous royals. Be careful you don't get lost in one of the many closes along the Royal Mile at night... you might just run into the ghost of villains like Deacon Brodie. But breathe easy during the day, when Edinburgh's history is on full display in the many museums, galleries, and on every street. And when you've had your fill (can you ever?), you can tour the rest of Scotland with us. So, combine the magic of the city with a trip to see the majesty of the Highlands , the Borders , or the islands of Scotland .
Planning Your Tour from Edinburgh
Many come to tour Scotland from Edinburgh with an idea in mind. To breathe in the scent of whisky at their favourite distillery. That they'll be the one to spot Nessie. That they might see an even more mythical creature: the Scottish sun. Our small-group tours from Edinburgh range from 1-17 days, so we'd advise you to narrow down your must-see list.
Travel Responsibly from Edinburgh
When touring Scotland from Edinburgh, you’ll be moved by breathtaking landscapes that we’re determined to protect. Through our responsible travel initiative , we do as much as we can to preserve locations for future generations to enjoy.
Did You Know?
- As you wander the gorgeous scenery of Princes Street Gardens, remember it used to be a loch... a cesspit for the city's sewage and a place to drown witches. Over 200 skeletons were discovered when it was drained in the late 18th century. - Back in the 1800s, Edinburgh had the nickname Auld Reekie, meaning "old smokey" due to the poor air quality.
Don't Miss Out
- The best view of the city is debatable: from the top of the ancient volcano Arthur's Seat or from the historically-intriguing Calton Hill. - Stockbridge and Dean's Village are Edinburgh's beautiful siblings, always getting attention. It's no wonder, with timber houses and cobbled streets alongside a flowing river. - Climb the monument dedicated to Scotland's most legendary writer, Sir Walter Scott.

Things to do in Edinburgh
There’s so much to see and do in Edinburgh that it can be hard to know where to begin.
Where to eat
Teuchters Landing
When the days grow shorter and the temperature drops, comfort food calls – and no place does warming grub like Teuchters. Their quirky ‘mug menu’ offers a selection of hot meals, from homely mac ‘n’ cheese to soup of the day, all for an affordable price.
The Scran & Scallie
The brainchild of two Michelin-starred chefs, Edinburgh’s Scran and Scallie certainly won’t disappoint. Couple a Highland burger with a ‘Hoose Cocktail’ for a classic pub meal with a twist or, if you’re looking for a true taste of Scotland, why not tuck into a hearty portion of haggis, neeps and tatties?
The Witchery
A short walk from Edinburgh Castle, The Witchery’s 16th century charm is hard to beat. Hide from the Scottish chill in the warm, wood-panelled dining room as you sample the signature steak tartare or the roasted venison loin. The Witchery also has a fantastic selection of wines – but with over 800 to choose from, it’s certainly not for the indecisive.
Where to drink
Join in the hustle and bustle of Grassmarket
Walk through the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh’s Old Town and you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to pubs and bars. Named after its dark history of public hangings, The Last Drop is anything but chilling, so duck inside for a warming malt whisky or a foamy pint. Alternatively, if cocktails are more your thing, head to award-winning Dragonfly to sample a Sparkling Tatanka or an Espresso Martini.
Wander along the waterfront in Leith
Known for its maritime history, Leith offers a vibrant, up-and-coming harbour-side of nocturnal activity. Head to King’s Wark for a fuss-free pint of real ale or, for a little bit of modern quirk, try a Pomegranate Daiquiri or a Honey Margarita at The Lioness of Leith – plus, with burgers featured in the Lonely Planet guide for 2019/2020, it's not a bad place for a bite either!
Find a touch of class on George Street
Edinburgh’s George Street is a popular stomping ground for affluent students and trendy young professionals. Although its bars tend to be a little pricey, they’re perfect for a special occasion. Add a little sparkle to your evening at The Dome, famed for its glittering Christmas lights and crystal chandelier or, for something a little more affordable, step into Candy Bar & Kitchen for a good range of craft beers, wines and cocktails.
Where to shop
Stockbridge
Located to the north of the city centre, Stockbridge is bursting to the seams with many of the city’s best independent shops. Browse the fantastic array of jewellers, galleries, gourmet food and second hand vendors for unique souvenirs and one-of-a-kind trinkets before taking a break in one of the area’s bohemian cafés for a bite to eat. The weekly Sunday market also draws locals and visitors from far and wide – and crammed with local produce, from Scottish smoked salmon to artisan breads and specialist cheese, it’s not hard to understand why.
Ocean Terminal
One of Europe’s largest shopping and leisure centres, Ocean Terminal boasts over 70 high street favourites, including Scotland’s flagship Superdry store. There are also plenty of bars and restaurants overlooking the beautiful waterfront of Leith, as well as a beauty spa, gym, soft play area and cinema. Frequent bus services run between Ocean Terminal and the city centre, so jump on to enjoy a relaxing day of retail therapy.
Princes Street
Where else can you browse the biggest names in high street shopping, enjoy the lush greenery of Princes Street Gardens and take in views of Edinburgh Castle all at once? Princes Street has to be one of the most picturesque places to shop in all of the UK, don't miss your chance to experience it for yourself.
Top tourist attractions
Step back in time at Edinburgh Castle
Part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site, Edinburgh Castle is not to be missed. Although the oldest parts date back the 12th century, additional building work has been added throughout the ages, making it a true record of the city’s cultural past. The castle also houses the Crown Jewels (or the ‘Honours of Scotland’) – and when you need to refuel after a busy day, why not try out one of the castle’s two traditional cafés for a hearty soup or an afternoon tea?
See the giant pandas at Edinburgh Zoo
Given its exotic array of animals from across the globe, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that Edinburgh Zoo is in fact in Scotland. Come face to face with the Sumatran tigers in the visitor viewing tunnel, or meet the friendly koalas after venturing through the eucalyptus gardens. The zoo’s biggest attraction is the giant panda exhibit, home to Tian Tian and Yang Guang – the only ones of their kind in the UK. Viewing spaces are limited, so be sure to book in advance if you don’t want to miss out.
Soak up the atmosphere of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile
Running through the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, the Royal Mile is bursting full of things to see and do. Observe the city from a new perspective through the Camera Obscura, try a traditional tipple at the Scotch Whisky Experience or, if you really want to delve into Scotland’s historical past, visit the Scottish Storytelling Centre for immersive narrative events that bring Edinburgh’s rich bygone heritage back to life.
Things to do for kids
Hunt for clues on the Edinburgh Treasure Trail
Starting on Market Street, Edinburgh’s self-guided Treasure Trail will lead you through the must-see spots of the city’s scenic Old Town. Keep your eyes peeled as you search for clues on existing buildings and monuments, working your way towards the hidden treasure.
Take a trip down memory lane at The Museum of Childhood
Displaying everything from dolls to school uniforms, this museum offers a fantastic day out for the whole family. The recreated Victorian street and the 1930s sound clips will immerse the little ones in a pre-internet world of wonder – and when they tire of looking at teddy bears and train sets, the dressing up area and puppet theatre are sure to keep them out of mischief.
Get creative at Doodles
Let the kids unleash their artistic side at Edinburgh’s first informal ‘do it yourself’ ceramic workshop. Make a rainy day colourful as you paint, splash, doodle and dab on your choice of mugs, bowls, teapots and more. It’s worth noting that the glazing process can take up to 4-5 days, so it’s best to plan this for the start of your trip.
Edinburgh in one day
See the sights of Edinburgh by bus
When you’re a little short on time, guided bus tours are a great way to see the best of what Edinburgh has to offer. The various hop-on, hop-off routes take you past all of the top tourist spots, including Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Grassmarket and much more, all in just one hour – and with well-informed guides or audiobooks on hand along the way, you’ll become an Edinburgh expert in no time.
Take in the city from Arthur’s Seat
Sitting 251m above sea level, Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park boasts the best views in Edinburgh. Play a quick game of Eye Spy as you spot the famous landmarks across the city’s spectacular skyline, or take a picnic for some much needed refreshment when you reach the summit. Some areas of the park are steep and rocky, so make sure you pack your walking shoes.
Get cultural in the National Museum of Scotland
Housing over 20,000 pieces, the National Museum of Scotland has something for everyone to enjoy. Discover the nation’s fascinating past, from its prehistory to the present day, through the museum’s diverse collections of art, technology and natural artefacts. Entry is free – however, some temporary exhibitions may require tickets.
Hidden gems
Dunbar’s Close Garden
Just moments away from the bustling Royal Mile, this oasis of calm is one of the city’s most peaceful spots. The perfect place to rest your feet after a busy day of sightseeing, the secret 17th century gardens are beautifully maintained, boasting seasonal plants and leafy hedges to enjoy all year round.
Tom Riddle’s grave
For Harry Potter fans, the grave of Thomas Riddell in Greyfriars Kirkyard should not be missed. Although the spelling is slightly different, the two hundred year old memorial is widely rumoured to have inspired the name of JK Rowling’s notorious Lord Voldemort – just don’t say his name out loud.
The Cauldron
Following the same vein of witchcraft and wizardry, The Cauldron's potion cocktail-making class is a huge amount of fun for couples and friends. Plus, it doesn't even matter if alcohol is your thing as all cocktails can be made into mocktails for a truly inclusive experience.
