The tour we had was awesome! Our tour guide was very informative and answered many of our questions with enthusiasm. As a uninformed tourist, I learned a lot about the studs and their lineage, the breeding process, and about the Coolmore farms. They showed us the barns and told us interesting facts about the horses that stayed there. They also showed American Pharaoh and Epicenter out of their stalls, which was a great photo opportunity.

What a beautiful stud farm. We took advantage of the Visit Horse Country Meet your neighbors weekend. Robyn was our guide and she was wonderful. Very informative and every question I though about asking she explained before anyone could Even ask. This is the home of Grand Slam winner American Pharoah. He won the triple crown and Breeders Cup race. Justify also resides here in a separate barn. If you ever get the chance to tour do it. You won't be disappointed.

Like its counterparts in Ireland and Australia, Ashford Stud is dedicated to breeding and raising top Thoroughbred racehorses. Home to seventeen stallions, most notably American Pharoah the 2015 Triple Crown winner. Take notice of the beautiful stone buildings and old stone walls along the drive from the imposing front gate. I make it a point to get out to the farm as often as possible. Never get enough. Although today's temps were barely out of single digits, I was warmed by the beauty of Ashford's stunning equines.

The premier stud farm in America, with a current roster that includes American Pharaoh, Tiz the Law and Justify. An outstanding and highly informative tour. We met Brian Twormey who is a tremendous ambassador for Coolmore and horse racing.

What a privilege to meet Triple Crown winner American Pharoah on the Coolmore Ashford tour! It took about a year to finally get tickets but it was well worth the wait. The farm itself is gorgeous: stone buildings and bridges, rolling hills dotted with scarlet trees and miles of wooden fences. We entered the stone visitor center to watch a short but stirring film and then it was off to see the champion thoroughbred, who was led out into the picturesque stable courtyard. His demeanor was just as calm as advertised, more pet than stallion-like, and he stood patiently while everyone in the group had pictures made with him. He was taken back to his stall and we toured the stable he shares with Giant's Causeway and other Coolmore stallions. We also saw the farm's graveyard, another stallion barn and the breeding shed. There were some children in the tour group so that last was a little awkward, but overall the experience was everything I hoped.

A special farm tour is getting lots of attention as American Pharoah's fans want to see the champion in his next chapter of life, at stud.

The tour is s a chance to get up close and personal to Derby history and the world's first Triple Crown winner in 37 years.

"It's been great! It's been wonderful! We have people coming from across the United States to see the Coolmore Farm to do the farm tour and also see American Pharoah," Anne Hardy said.

The expansive, serene, stretch of Greenland is the new home for an American Pharoah.

"When they come to visit, they really have a high quality experience and great interaction with the horse and farm, the agriculture, the story and the history," Hardy said.

Coolmore is one of the largest industries for breeding, offering top stallions for stud.

Right now American Pharoah's stud fee sits at $200,000 for every foal born.

"All of American Pharoah's fans have posted pictures and selfies. (I) kind of loving seeing what he's been up to as he's making the transition into his second career," Hardy said.

Fans who take the Coolmoore America tour in Versailles, Kentucky, will also have the opportunity to see other derby greats, like Fusaichi Pegasus and Thunder Gulch.

"We have a stallion roster of 14 stallions which include American Pharoah. So as part of our tour, it's focused on the stallion area," Scott Calder said.

Coolmore Carm has been named the home of champions. And owners can't deny that American Pharoah has sparked a new interest and excitement to their tours and the industry.

"He is certainly a special ambassador for the sport and a tremendous athlete. So people are always fascinated with that dominance and not to mention his very special personality," Hardy said.

WLKY’s Fred Cowgill describes his personality as that of an "old soul," one that loves to be around people. It's perfect for spectators.

"What he's done is hugely significant in all circles. It's gone over and above and the general public is very aware of what he achieved. It's not normal. He's a once-in-a-lifetime horse and that brings a whole new level of excitement I think," Calder said.

Tickets for adults are $20 and kids under 12 are $11.

But tours from late November  through Jan. 8 are already sold out.

Justify at Coolmore America's Ashford Stud Farm in Kentucky

Where is Justify?

As of Sept. 17, 2018, Justify resides at Coolmore America’s Ashford Stud Farm in Versailles, Kentucky. Justify will stand at the farm in 2019 for the first season of his stud career. His stud fee has been set at $150,000. Ashford Stud Stallion Manager Richard Barry, who also looked after Scat Daddy, Johannesburg, Hennessy & Storm Bird, is among the team of people there helping Justify feel at home.

Fellow Triple Crown champ American Pharoah also calls Ashford Stud home during the northern hemisphere’s breeding season. He will return to Kentucky in December 2018. This ‘home of champions’ will be your first chance to see two Triple Crown winners in one place starting this winter!

On any horse farm tour, staff will do their best to ensure you can meet stallions, however, there is no guarantee. Showings are dependent on the health and daily activities of each horse. Remember, these horses are at work! Tours are typically conducted rain or shine. Keep in mind that many stallions, including American Pharoah, travel to the southern hemisphere for several months of the year. Plan your visit accordingly.

For a full recap of Justify’s horse racing career and path to Coolmore America, read our article here .

Visit Horse Country: Coolmore America’s Global Reach

coolmore america tours

Coolmore Stud is arguably one of the two most important international Thoroughbred owner/breeder entities in the sport over the past half-century, along with Darley Stud. The multifaceted business originated in Ireland during the mid-1970s and through the years has exerted influence in every major racing jurisdiction to one degree or another while also revolutionizing the breeding and sales sectors of the industry. Legendary sires such as Sadler’s Wells, Danehill, Giant’s Causeway , and the contemporary Galileo all have helped Coolmore make a lasting impact on the breed, and Coolmore’s home base in County Tipperary, Ireland, and outpost in Australia continue to thrive as the third decade of the 21 st century begins. ( Read more about Coolmore’s history in this profile from America’s Best Racing.)

coolmore america tours

Coolmore America is located at Ashford Stud, which sits on a picturesque 2,000-plus acres and provides some of the most pleasant sight lines during a drive through northern Woodford County in central Kentucky along U.S. 60. Coolmore owner John Magnier acquired the farm during the mid-1980s and quickly grew it into one of the premier breeding operations in North America, with a truly global reach. The late Giant’s Causeway, aka “The Iron Horse,” moved to Ashford Stud in the early 1990s after one breeding season in Ireland and became Coolmore’s cornerstone stallion in the U.S., leading the North American general sire list three times (2009, 2010, 2012).

Other notable sires through the years at Ashford include the late Thunder Gulch (owned by Coolmore-affiliated Michael Tabor during his racing days when he won the 1995 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes) and the late Scat Daddy, sire of 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify . Currently, Ashford is represented by some of the most promising young stallions in the industry, touting impeccable racetrack résumés and pedigrees. The group is led by 2015 Triple Crown winner and Horse of the Year American Pharoah , who ended 2019 as the leading freshman sire in North America, and also features champion Uncle Mo, who has already sired a Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner in Nyquist, champion Lookin At Lucky, the sire of 2018 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Accelerate, and Justify, who was represented by his first foal on Jan. 3.

Tours of Ashford Stud are offered through Horse Country for 1 to 14 guests per booking and last one hour. According to the Ashford page on Horse Country’s website, both American Pharoah and Justify may be available to visit with during the upcoming tours this breeding season, but an appearance is not guaranteed. Bucket list travel on a budget: Expert tips for airfare, loyalty programs, credit card perks and more

VIDEO: Tips for affordable travel

Many travelers have their sights set on summer getaways , but with everything from baggage fees to fuel costs impacting the price of a ticket, "Good Morning America" is asking travel experts to share tips for booking bucket list destinations on a budget and finding savings along the way.

Travel expert Nicky Kelvin, senior director of content for The Points Guy, offered his tips for affordable travel techniques.

Where to find the best flight deals

Kelvin encourages travelers to utilize Google Flights and other free price-tracking tools to compare fare prices and snag the best deal.

He also suggests using both the calendar and map features within Google Flights to see which airports, dates and destinations how the lowest fare.

From the Google Flights homepage on a computer, click "explore destinations" and select a departure city without adding a destination. Then zoom out on the map to see the best prices for destinations all over the world.

Get the most out of free travel loyalty programs

Travelers should be earning points for anything and everything that they are buying or booking from airline and hotels to car rentals, Kelvin said.

In addition to the points that can can help travelers earn free flights and hotel stays, Kelvin said to look for extra perks just for joining.

Hyatt rewards, for example, offers all guests free breakfast.

For Thrifty Car Rental and Dollar Car Rental, he said you can add your spouse or domestic partner as an additional driver for free.

Loyalty programs are great for airlines too. JetBlue, for example, allows enrolled customers -- even if they don't have enough points for a flight -- to use points for discounts. Plus, with any airline, as you accumulate points to earn status, you can get free seating upgrades.

Travel credit cards with cash back perks

Along with earning points, travel credit cards give you protection for your trip like insurance to help with lost or damaged baggage and trip cancellation protection

As for credit cards, The Points Guy team suggests the Capital One Venture Rewards credit card as an all-around pick -- you get 75,000 miles after meeting your minimum spend in the first three months. Which Kelvin said is a value of over $1,300.

If you're looking to earn the most miles, he said look to the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card.

"You'll earn the most points on all your purchases with this one," he said.

Finally, if you want a credit card with no fee, Kelvin suggested the Bilt Mastercard, which he said is particularly great for renters because you can earn points on what's likely someone's biggest expense.

Save money on international phone plans for summer trips

If someone's trip is taking them out of the country, using a cell phone internationally can cost $10 to 15 per day. For a family of four, that's more than $400 for a week.

If your phones support eSIM, Kelvin suggested purchasing a data plan for your destination through an app such as Airalo, Truphone or GigSky.

For example, one of Airalo's global SIM plans costs $9 for one week, which could save a family close to $350 dollars, depending on their existing international coverage.
