Varanasi luxury cruise: the stylish way to explore varanasi.
In the holy city of Varanasi, apart from enjoying the serene and spiritual ambience of its ghats, you can enjoy a ride on the luxury cruise called Alaknanda. The luxury cruise service in Varanasi was inaugurated in the month of September in 2018. This is the first time that an exquisite looking luxury cruise will make its way through the holy waters.
Varanasi is one of the most visited religious destinations in India, thanks to its historic ghats, splendid temples and the distinct flavour of the city itself. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, a fact that makes it even more fascinating as a popular tourist spot in India. It is the River Ganga though, which lends the city its identity. Indeed, the city and the river have become synonymous to each other. Much of the daily life in the city revolves around the Ganga, and it finds a strong presence in the everyday conversations and lifestyle of the people.

- TrueIndian 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Overall a Good Experience The cruise line has boats of different capacities. We could get a booking on Bhagirati. If your plans are made book atleast a month in advance for proper seat selection. The cruise starts from Ravidas Ghat. The approach to the ghat is from a very narrow road so start early from your hotel to reach on time. Bhagirati has upper and lower decks. Upper deck has plastic chairs and free seating and costs Rs 700 per person and is non air conditioned. Lower deck costs Rs 900, and is air conditioned with sofa seating and seat numbers are allotted when you book. It has a TV which shows Kashi film and Hanuman Chalisa. Lower deck passengers can go to upper deck also but upper deck passengers can not come down. There is a toilet on board which is very clean. Tea/Coffee and cookies are complementary. Soft drinks and other snacks can be bought on payment . Sweetener/Sugar free is not available for diabetics. If you park your vehicle in Ravidas Park paid parking, you have to walk through the park to reach the cruise site. There is another parking available at the ghat itself which is free and closer to the river. There is a ramp to go down to the cruise/river level or you can take approximately 50 stairs, railings are provided. Difficult for wheel chair passengers. At the ghat you have stalls selling tea, maggi, pakoras etc. Reporting time for evening cruise is 5.30 PM and cruise leaves sharp at 6. It is one and half hour cruise which takes you along various ghats and commentary is provided. Ghats are seen from seats on the left for onwards journey and ghats and aarti is seen from the right on return journey. On return it stops for you to see the ganga aarti, time of which varies in winter and summer. If you are seated on the upper deck be prepared to tolerate the moths and mosquitoes all through the trip. Overall a nice experience. Read more Written 15 March 2024
