Real experiences of the real Los Angeles

See the real la, tripadvisor.

Did a full day walking tour of LA. Our tour guide Damien was very knowledgeable & passionate about giving us all the information in a clear & concise way. The tour was very well planned & organised & was not tiring.

Lisa Montesanti

We did The Real Hollywood tour & loved it! The tour was at a great pace & the guide (Vicky) was very knowledgeable & made the tour fun. Thank you!

Stuart was so knowledgeable & was worth the day with him. I had been to LA multiple times before but this is the first time I had taken a tour – so thrilled to have this experience with my mom & sister. I would recommend this tour again & again.

Lucrezia Scamarcio

We had an amazing DTLA Murder Mystery Ghost tour with Damien & Dante… thank you very much from the Italian girls… very interesting & funny
 absolutely recommended!

This tour was awesome! Stuart is very knowledgeable, likeable & fun. The stops on the tour were very interesting & I learned a lot. I’ve been on quite a few tours of this nature & this was one of my favorites – highly recommend!

Did a walking tour of LA (LA in a Day). Vicky started us off with the Hollywood tour & Damien (who is also the owner) was our guide for the rest of the day. The entire day was awesome, I suggest this tour. There isn’t that much walking, to be honest. It’s very fun!

Michelle B.

My boyfriend & I took the DTLA Murder Mystery Ghost tour with Stuart as our guide & had the most amazing time! We had experiences we will never forget! We were able to see parts & people of Los Angeles that we never would have without Stuart. I give this 10/10. If we visit again, this will be at the top of our to do list!

Sara Pozueta

Absolutely amazing! Highly recommend taking both The Real Hollywood Tour & the Central Downtown LA tour! Our time in LA wouldn’t have been the same. Great way to learn about the city, see it from a different angle, explore the local life & learn about its history & filming industry. Damien our guide was fantastic!

Sylvie was our host & was fantastic. She had a lot of local knowledge & gave her unique perspective as someone who had moved to the area many years ago, so she had an outsider’s as well as an insider’s perspective. The tour gave us a great overview of Santa Monica & Venice & set us up for a great rest of the day.

Paula Lindgren

We took 2 tours, the Santa Monica & Venice Bike tour (with Sylvie) & the Real Hollywood tour (with Damien). Both were great & highly recommended. Sylvie & Damien were informative, knowledgeable & easy to talk to. They were like you were with friends. We were traveling as a family of 4 with 2 boys (15 & 12). We all enjoyed the tours.

2 miles An easy walking distance

6pm – 9pm (3 hours) Saturday

On our DTLA Murder Mystery Ghost tour we go on an investigation of the noir underbelly of Los Angeles – and enjoy cocktails in a couple of haunted bars.

First we visit the Biltmore Hotel, the last place the tragic Black Dahlia, Elizabeth Short, was seen alive. Next we stop at Clifton’s and learn about the anti-corruption drive of its Christian founder (who had a few secrets of his own). After that we move to the dreaded Hotel Cecil, which has a hellish history of murders, suicides and killers (including the Night Stalker). From there our DTLA Murder Mystery Ghost tour moves to the once grand Alexandria Hotel, where Rudolph Valentino’s ghost still haunts his old penthouse, then the Barclay Hotel, home to two serial killers – and also the scene of some of their most brutal murders. We visit the site of the Chinatown Massacre of 1871 (still the largest mass lynching in US history), before the tour finishes at the Halls of Justice, the site of many dramatic trials, including those of Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel (twice) and the infamous Charles Manson. Join our DTLA Murder Mystery Ghost tour and have sleepless nights for weeks!

Welcome to LA Ghosts

A walk of fame and hollywood boulevard littered with broken dreams.

Just beneath the surface of LA’s forever sunny weather and shiny Hollywood glamor lie deep reservoirs of unfathomable darkness and despair. The crushed hopes and aspirations of those that once held stars in their eyes die in a place where people escaped to make their dreams come true only to find the reality is anything but a Hollywood fairytale ending.

Join LA Ghosts on a journey through the famous, and infamous, Hollywood Boulevard and the Walk of Fame, and misfortune.  Uncover the shocking details behind the truth of why the heart of the film industry and home of the Oscars breeds famous ghosts and ghostly encounters with celebrity spirits. From the haunted Hollywood Roosevelt to the disturbing occurrences at The Magic Castle to mysterious deaths and unsolved mysteries at the TCL Chinese Theatre, you’ll discover the dark truth behind icons like Marilyn Monroe whose ambitions of stardom led them to become the city’s cautionary tales of tragedy and loss.

For every story of glitz, glamor, and grandeur there are two more full of anguish, devastation, and death.

What Will I See?

Bright lights, sad city.

Adoringly known as Tinseltown, Hollywood has a reputation for producing cinematic blockbusters and big names. However, its alter ego is the destroyer, a vengeful side to the city that shows no mercy with the original owner of the El Capitan Theatre being one of its many victims.

Uncover the dismal origins of “Hollywood’s First Home of Spoken Drama”, a theater hit so hard by the depression of the 30s that it ultimately led to the untimely demise of one of the managers right in the balcony.

Today, unnerving reports of items being moved, doors being locked, and workers disappearing for days only to find themselves on the balcony with no memory of how they got there has been a common occurrence. A former projectionist who repeatedly experienced visions of an employee that did not exist would eventually slit his wrists in the projection room, becoming one of the theater’s many victims and its latest trapped soul.

Spine-Chilling Showstoppers

Originally known as Graumen’s Chinese Theatre, this landmark location is one of the most prominent in Los Angeles. It’s been host to a variety of notable events and Hollywood legends and has been home to the spirits of the disturbingly departed. Unexplained events include a creepy tale of the theatre’s buzzer system continuing to operate years after its disconnection, and far after the rooms had been sealed off.

Outside the theatre, former Broadway star and character actor, Victor Killian, lingers long after his brutal slaying. Terrifying accounts of his presence have been reported for decades on end with witnesses claiming to have seen Mr. Killian walking quietly amongst the concrete blocks. The destitute apparition has also been known to strike up a conversation with unsuspecting tourists, only revealing his true state when he turns to expose the horrific head wound that put him in his ghastly disposition.

Fame Becomes Infamy in Haunted Hollywood Hotels

It’s no secret that Hollywood is the place to be for those trying to make it in the business. And for those who’ve arrived, The Hollywood Roosevelt is the hot spot for all of Tinseltown’s glitzy clientele, even the fabulously ghoulish afterlife. Named after President Theodore Roosevelt, the hotel is a site not to be missed as you never know who – or what – you might run into.

Throughout the years, spectral sightings have been reported by guests and staff, each more startling than the last. Learn about former movie star Montgomery Clift and his sightings in room 928 where he stayed while filming From Here to Eternity. It’s said that he makes his presence known by tapping guests on the shoulder and has been known to watch the maids work.

There are other spirits that reside in the hotel such as that of Caroline, a five-year-old girl who is believed to be stuck in a never-ending loop of searching for her mother. While her presence can raise the hair on your neck, nothing takes people aback quite like a visit from Marilyn Monroe.

The story of Ms. Monroe is one of the most tragic and heartbreaking in Hollywood’s disturbing history. Once known as a bombshell, she is now known as The Hollywood Roosevelt’s most active spirit, still drawing a crowd as thousands of tourists a year specifically request to stay in her former suite hoping to catch a glimpse of the eternal starlet.

Why is Los Angeles So Haunted?

Murderous magic and deadly tricks.

Your journey through the last hundred years of haunted Hollywood history will unveil the truth behind the area’s most iconic attractions and the fall of the celebrity giants who had so much to gain
until they had nothing left to lose. The allure of a city offering seemingly endless possibilities reveals itself to be nothing more than an illusion filled with very real hauntings and echoes of harrowing encounters that can never be forgotten.

One of the most revered places for many magicians to visit is also the home of doused ambitions. Follow their path to The Magic Castle, where you’ll uncover unhinged accounts of suicides committed by magicians waiting for their turn on stage. Hear the sad but true tale of Matt Gilroy, a once famous magician that was horrendously tormented before his act, resulting in his canceled performance and, ultimately, the end of his successful career.

The Magic Castle isn’t the only building in Hollywood that’s left a path of destruction and dashed hopes. The Hollywood VIP Hotel has a reputation for its inability to retain owners. And it’s no wonder why. To date, the building has preyed upon multiple owners including a husband and wife team that succumbed to its reign of terror, with the husband committing suicide in the office and the wife ultimately filing for bankruptcy. Even today, the building continues to test the sanity of workers, staff, and anyone who dares enter.

An Icon With a Sordid Past

With the unforgiving records of an undefeated city, none are quite as horrifically poetic as that of the Hollywood sign. Originally designed as a short-term marketing push, the sign has become an iconic monument of Hollywood, thanks to a group of independent donors (including Hugh Hefner) who funded its rebuild. Though its reconstruction was done with good intentions, it’s not stopped this landmark from becoming a beacon of tragedy.

Its most notable casualty is that of 24-year-old Peg Entwistle, an aspiring actress who jumped to her death from the letter “H” and whose apparition can still be seen reliving that dreadful night, with unsuspecting witnesses trying to help her only to realize she’s disappeared immediately following her fall. If you happen to see her on the tour, be sure you don’t become a target as John Arbogast did, a true account you’ll hear on LA Ghost Tours.

Glitz and Glamor Hide a Sinister Reality

Hollywood may be a dream location for those seeking fame and fortune, but the truth of this sought-after destination is far more disturbing than the reality shows let you see. Unsettling visions of weeping children can be seen in various locations such as the Stella Adler Academy of Acting. The building has been known for unexplained accidents and tragedy, and if you’re not careful, the building just may claim you next.

Even a business as seemingly innocent as the Hollywood Wax Museum harbors a dark and creepy presence. One that produces unexplained anomalies and even terrified a National Enquirer reporter so badly, he opted not to write about his experience, instead penning a letter to the staff detailing what occurred that frightening night.

What’s So Special About LA Ghosts?

See the darker side of the bright lights in a beautiful destination.

The devastation that has consumed the city of lights has affected more than just its inhabitants. Once a stunning symbol of prosperity, the Hollywood First National Building succumbed to the city’s tragic reputation, struggling financially and eventually being abandoned. Though unoccupied by the living, the dead have made themselves welcome. Malevolent entities are said to now inhabit the building including the spirit of a former investor who turned his misfortune into a deadly encounter that keeps him tethered to the place of his heinous crimes. When you arrive at the building, look up – if you dare.

An Adrenaline Rush and Once-In-A-Lifetime Experience

With so many tales of desperation, despair, and death, it’s easy to see why Hollywood is the subject of ongoing investigations into its demented past. Your trip through Hollywood history will help you understand the true cost of fame and fortune, while also sending chills down your spine.

See the sites and walk the famous streets while you try to catch your breath–not just from breathtaking views but from experiencing electric ghostly encounters.

And who knows, you may just see someone famous
 visiting from the other side.

Preview The Most Haunted Locations In Los Angeles

The hollywood roosevelt.

Named after President Theodore Roosevelt, this hotel has seen its fair share of celebrities, both living
and dead. This popular location is a hot spot for ghost hunters as it’s said the spirit of Marilyn Monroe still frequents the building.

The Hollywood Wax Museum

Behind the chillingly accurate wax figurines, depicting everyone from Michael Jackson to Dale Earnhart is something far more devious. Spirits haunt the old Wax Museum, and they’ve been captured on video and reported by numerous visitors.

The Hollywood Sign

Ablaze in the night sky, The Hollywood Sign has become a beacon of hope and amusement in American society. But in 1932 the Hollywood sign represented something far more sinister for the thousands of Angelenos basking in its shadow.

WHY WE’RE THE BEST

Group Tours Are The Best

Our Los Angeles Ghost Tour Digs Deep

As you walk through downtown Hollywood you are literally in the center of the global entertainment industry. There are countless things to distract you from the sordid human stories under your very feet. It takes a very special kind of visitor to turn away from 90 minutes of escapist fiction and lift the veil on the real horrors of Hollywood.

We’ll pass the places where Marilyn Monroe and Montgomery Clift still haunt. But we will also hear the tragic story of the ghost girl who haunts the same hotel, crying thick black tears from empty eyes if anyone tries to help her find her mommy. These more recent hauntings are even more real and scary than anything you will see on the silver screen.

You will not only learn more about the historical buildings and sights the city has to offer, but you will find yourself experiencing Tinsel Town’s paranormal history in vivid detail. You will walk in the footsteps of celebrities and industry luminaries who have long since left this mortal realm, only to come back in some other, less fleshy form.

Our passionate and knowledgeable Los Angeles ghost tour guides will take you through the dramatic and unbelievable true stories that make up this city’s most compelling supernatural encounters.  Suicide, murder, obsession, and dashed dreams all add up to some of the most compelling and strange stories about Hollywood you will ever hear.

Experience Los Angeles’ Terrifying Past

Despite Los Angeles’ sunny and warm reputation, do not be surprised if you feel a chill during your tour.  Each of the 8 locations on the standard tour, of just under a mile, is guaranteed to make you think twice about turning off your lights at night.

We aren’t taking you to the same old places. The carefully curated set of locations on the Extended tour, which adds an additional 4 haunted locations and half a mile of walking to your tour, will deliver the most compelling and offbeat historical ghost stories that will satisfy your interest in the past while revealing some difficult truths about the present.

After taking the LA Ghosts tour, you will never watch another movie the same way again.

Los Angeles Ghost Tours Offers Something for Everyone

Whether you are interested in Hollywood history or you are simply looking to connect with a different side of Hollywood life, LA Ghosts offers a detailed look at the supernatural side of American entertainment history that includes more than a little terror.

The veneer of glamorous Hollywood celebrity culture hides a frightening and seedy side of Los Angeles that most people never see. Not everyone can make it when they follow their dreams, and the city of angels is full of stories of tragedy and unrealized potential.

Although LA is the country’s second-largest city, and California’s most populous city, the ever-present sunshine, hides an eeriness that seeps into every corner of the city’s history once you know what to look for.

The haunted tour was. Cool. Super informative.

the tour guide was very informative and lots of good information to learn.

Heather was an amazing tour guide and wonderful story teller!! A wonderful way to spend a birthday!!...

Remain calm.

If you see something you can’t quite explain, don’t panic. You might miss the apparition, or worse, hurt yourself.

These ghosts were people once, show them the same respect you would if they were alive, and we’ll all get through our tour safely.

Do not provoke the spirits.

Most spirits operate on an ‘if you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you’ principle, we encourage you to adopt a similar attitude. Most ghosts that is, some are just plain evil.

Stay together.

We have plenty of ghost stories here in LA, we don’t need any more, we encourage the buddy system - two is one, one is none!

Watch your step.

It’s dark, there’s lots to see, we understand the temptation to gaze skyward, but keep an eye on where you are going. This is not a museum, it’s Downtown Hollywood. Stay alert!

Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

A woman found dead in a church with no blood in her body may have been a TikToker hunting for ghosts, police say

  • A French woman was found dead in an abandoned church in northern Italy after a ghost-hunting trip.
  • Police are investigating if her death was a result of a TikTok challenge or murder.
  • Witnesses reported seeing the woman, dressed as a vampire, with a man hours before her death.

Insider Today

A French woman embarked on a day trip to northern Italy for what appears to have been a ghost-hunting trip. She never made it home.

The body of the unnamed woman, 22, was found over the weekend in an abandoned church where she had been stabbed to death and drained of blood, according to a CNN report.

Now investigators are trying to figure out if she was TikToker who was part of a ghost-hunting stunt or if her death was something more sinister, such as a consented sacrificial death.

The woman had traveled from her hometown near Lyon, France, to La Salle in Aosta Valley, Italy, and had informed her family of plans to find a "haunted house believed to contain ghosts," police told the outlet.

The journey to the Italian town is estimated to take just over one hour from Lyon when driving, according to a Google Maps estimate.

Witnesses in the town interviewed by police said they had noticed the woman was accompanied by a man hours before her death. Both had been dressed up as vampires, CNN reported.

One witness described the woman as "emaciated" and looked like a "walking corpse," while the man was described as having dark hair and olive skin, the outlet added.

Related stories

A camping knife had been used to stab the woman, causing her to bleed to death, the report said. She also had two gunshot wounds on her neck and one on her abdomen, which police told CNN may have been inflicted after she was already dead.

There was no sign of a struggle, CNN reported, though police noted that some of the blood from the floor had been removed when they arrived to inspect the scene. Police are still searching for the man who was with her, the outlet added.

One theory that investigators are considering is that the woman's death was a result of a "consented murder" or a sacrifice, the publication said.

The woman also may have been taking part in a ghost-hunting challenge that's popular among TikTok users in France, police told CNN. The report did not mention what evidence the police had to link the death to the social media platform.

In a statement sent to Business Insider, a spokesperson for TikTok said "no evidence has been presented that relates this tragic death to TikTok in any way" and that reporting as such contributes to a "false narrative."

The US in particular has seen a rise in "haunted tourism" in recent years, as historic buildings cash in on the ghost-hunting phenomenon, according to a 2021 Bloomberg article.

While the role of a TikTok stunt in the death has not yet been established, the platform has long been criticized for putting people in real-life danger.

For instance, TikTok faced mass criticism in 2020 for promoting the "randonauting" challenge which encouraged users to download a separate app that would use their location to take them on adventures.

One group who participated discovered a suitcase with human remains, Good To Know reported at the time. Then, in 2022, the "blackout challenge" resulted in the deaths of multiple users who attempted to choke themselves into unconsciousness.

At the time, a TikTok spokesperson told The Washington Post that the "disturbing 'challenge,' which people seem to learn about from sources other than TikTok, long predates our platform and has never been a TikTok trend."

Representatives for town of La Salle and local police did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Editor's note, April 12, 2024: This article has been updated to reflect comments provided to Business Insider by TikTok.
