Enzo Avitabile presents Sacro SUD 2023, free concerts in Naples

Immerse yourself in the magic of Sacred SOUTH , international festival which transforms every year Napoli on a stage of world cultures and sounds. From the December 11, 2023 to January 6 2024 , the city is dressed in musical notes, combining international artists and local traditions.

It is a unique sensorial journey, which ranges from sacred music to popular rhythms, in historic places of Naples. An unforgettable experience with free concerts and performances that touch the soul.

The new edition of Sacro Sud 2023

Sacred SOUTH it's not just a festival, it's a celebration of unity through music. Every year, under the visionary guidance of Enzo Avitabile , Naples comes alive with this exceptional event. Artists from all over the world come together to share their art in places full of history and spirituality.

From Portuguese Fado al contemporary jazz , each performance is a meeting between tradition and innovation. Sacred SOUTH it is an ode to cultural diversity, an invitation to discover and appreciate the many facets of world music. Here, sacred sounds blend with profane melodies, creating a unique atmosphere where every note tells a story, every rhythm is a step towards global harmony. It is a transformative experience, which enriches not only the hearing but also the soul.

• 11 December : Starts with Frida Bollani Magoni, followed by the eclectic Operaquartet when it comes to Basilica of San Giacomo degli Spagnoli .
• 15 December : Enzo Avitabile presents “Devotions” at Basilica of San Domenico Maggiore , uniting big names in world music.
• 16 December : The Church of Santa Maria Donnaregina Vecchia hosts Cristina Branco, icon of Portuguese Fado .
• 19 December : The kamancheh virtuoso, Kayhan Kalhor, in duo with Erdal Erzincan, enchants the same church.
• 21 December : A musical dialogue between Markus Stockhausen and Alireza Mortazavi, who explore new sonic frontiers.
• 6 January : Enzo Avitabile closes the festival with “Naples & Africa”, combining different sounds in the Church of San Francesco and Santa Chiara in Ponticelli .

Every day of Sacred SOUTH it is an opportunity to immerse yourself in a world of sounds and cultures, on a musical journey that crosses continents and genres.

The fourth edition of this festival, which inaugurates the musical programming of City of Naples for “Christmas in Naples 2023”, offers all its concerts completely price quotation . For the now traditional Fanoja of San Giuseppe in Vieste , the historical re-enactment of the traditional bonfire (Fanoja) lit in the nights close to the feast of San Giuseppe, on the evening of March 17 in the splendid setting of Marina Piccola , the main guest will be O'Zulù Luca Persico, historic frontman of the partepei 99 Posse, one of the symbolic groups of the Italian underground and electronic scene between the 90s and the beginning of the century who will brighten the evening with a DJ set. On the evening of March 18, however, there will be another Neapolitan artist, Enzo Avitabile, together with the Bottari di Portico & Black Tarantella Band. During the 2 days there will also be many support groups from all over Italy, such as Cico and No Fang.

A concert by Italian singer-songwriter and saxophonist Enzo Avitabile, one of the leading interpreters of “World Music”, was organised on 6 May by the Italian Embassy in Tripoli in collaboration with the Department of Antiquities of Libya (DoA). The concert, “Acoustic World”, took place in the splendid setting of Tripoli’s Red Castle and presented the last 12 years of the artist’s record production in an acoustic key. Accompanying him on stage were musicians Gianluca Di Fenza and Emidio Ausiello.

Such an event adds a new element to the cultural promotion activities supported by the Italian Diplomatic Mission in close coordination with its Libyan partners. A large audience enthusiastically welcomed Enzo Avitabile’s performance, further proof of the great interest and attention paid by the Libyan people to Italian culture and art.

Particularly appreciated during the concert were the moments in which the Italian musical tradition dialogued with the Libyan one. Italian musical tradition dialogued with Libya’s in a “warm” encounter of emotions and intertwining of history, traditions and musical innovation. Contributing to this unique opportunity were the Libyan singers Nadal Fathi Kahlou and Aiman Al Shatani, who presented some local songs at the concert’s opening, followed by a duet with Enzo Avitabile interpreting “Carmela”, one of the most representative songs of the Neapolitan musical tradition by the great composer Sergio Bruni.
