About Beverly Hills

Knowing some basic information about Beverly Hills will make it easier for you to understand why the city is such a vital part of our popular LA city tours . Bordered by the Santa Monica Mountains on its northern side, Beverly Hills is just six miles northeast of Santa Monica and only nine miles west of LA.

Beverly Hills is well-known for being one of the most expensive places to live in the United States. The city is equally well-known for being home to some of the biggest houses in the U.S. While the majority of the city’s residents live in the flat parts of Beverly Hills, you’ll find the city’s most expensive homes in the hills. Beverly Hills is a great place to try to see your favorite stars because many celebrities call the city home.

Beverly Hills became part of the United States when the U.S. acquired California in the Treaty of Guadeloupe Hidalgo in the mid-1800s. The city got its name from the gorgeous hills located in Beverly, MA.

Lauren Sanchez Is Assigned a Reporter—These Are the Multimillion-Dollar Homes To Stake Out

( Taylor Hill/Getty Images )

Lauren Sanchez Is Assigned a Reporter—These Are the Multimillion-Dollar Homes To Stake Out

There are power couples ( Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce , Beyoncé  and JAY Z , Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck , to name a few), and then there are power couples.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are in a power category of their own thanks to the hundreds of billions of dollars at their disposal.

Recognizing this dynamic, the Daily Beast recently announced it was seeking a reporter to cover Sanchez exclusively . Of course, we began pondering the many mansions where she could be coming and going. At this point in time, it’s a worldwide guessing game of “Where in the world is Lauren Sanchez?”

The former broadcast journalist, pilot, and media personality certainly has an array of choices.

Bezos and his former wife, MacKenzie Scott , divorced in 2019. Since then, he and Sanchez have been busy scooping up luxe properties from Maui to Miami . The new crop of homes is in addition to the ones he owned during his marriage.

Bezos, founder of Amazon.com, has a fortune that’s estimated at a mind-boggling $199 billion. As of 2019, Bezos was among the largest landowners in the United States.

Let’s take a peek into their extensive, exclusive, and very expensive property collection. We can’t say whether you’ll see Sanchez, but at least we know where to look.

A few mansions in Florida

The couple recently made news with a series of splashy purchases in South Florida. Given Bezos’ net worth, it’s no surprise he tends to buy in bulk.

He and Sanchez picked up three pricey properties on exclusive Indian Creek Island in the Miami area.

After buying two adjoining homes for a reported $147 million, he dropped an additional $90 million on a third home on the isle.

According to Bloomberg , Bezos plans to live in the third home while he razes the first two.

hollywood beverly hills tour

The enclave known as the Billionaire Bunker has only 41 homes. Bezos’ neighbors on the isle include Tom Brady and Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner .

As Bezos stocks up in Florida, he leaves the state of Washington further in his rearview mirror. The Pacific Northwest was where he kept his official residence for decades and where he founded the company that made him billions of dollars.

The world’s second-richest man announced his decision to become a Florida man last year .

Record-breaking buy in Beverly Hills

Over on the West Coast, the couple also made waves with a big buy. Bezos reportedly purchased the Warner Estate in Beverly Hills from media mogul David Geffen in an off-market deal in 2020. He spent $165 million on the legacy mansion, a California record at the time.

While we wondered if perhaps the billionaire had overpaid , his decision to buy the 9-acre estate was calculated.

According to the Hollywood Reporter , Bezos toured some 40 residences in Greater Los Angeles before engaging the owner of the spread he eventually purchased. The two apparently dispensed with listing agents, opting to negotiate a deal aboard Geffen’s yacht.

The spread in Beverly Hills includes the 13,600-square-foot, Georgian-style mansion from the 1930s, numerous guesthouses, a tennis court, and a nine-hole golf course.

Geffen picked up the place in 1990 for $47.5 million and embarked on an extensive remodel. It’s a good guess that Bezos might also add his own touches to the estate filled with Hollywood history.

While married, he and Scott owned two Beverly Hills properties worth a reported $55 million. Postdivorce, Scott donated those homes to an affordable housing charity.

Wowie in Maui

After the wheeling and dealing in SoCal, surely the couple needed to take a break. Where better than Hawaii?

In 2021, Bezos and Sanchez picked up a 14-acre estate on Maui . The off-market transaction was said to be in the neighborhood of $78 million.

Known as the Carter Estate, the property is located on the island’s southern shore. And, like the L.A. transaction, this deal was also off-market.

The property includes a 4,500-square-foot main house, a 1,700-square-foot guesthouse, and a 700-square-foot pool. The holding encompasses seven parcels, including a fish pond with a white-sand beach.

Local agents praised the property’s privacy and seclusion, key factors in Bezos’ big buy.

Empire state of mind

In 2019, Bezos made a real estate play in the Big Apple , picking up a penthouse, along with two apartments below it, for about $80 million .

Jeff Bezos condo

(Realtor.com)

Located downtown in a historic building converted into condos, the three-floor abode is the building’s crown jewel: It measures 10,000 square feet, and it has 5,730 square feet of terraces on all four sides.

Along with five bedrooms and 5.5 baths, it has a ballroom and a library. One floor holds an observatory, and there are views of the Empire State building.

In 2020, Bezos dropped an additional $16 million for a fourth apartment in the building.

Washington, DC, digs

The owner of the Washington Post also keeps a mansion in the nation’s capital. He picked up the enormous residence in 2017 for a reported $19 million. The compound, a former museum, has two buildings, a chauffeur’s residence, and a garage. It totals nearly 27,000 square feet.

The posh property is located in the Kalorama neighborhood, where plenty of DC power players have called home , including Michelle and Barack Obama and Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump .

Washington compound

Bezos had a home in Medina, WA , since 1998, when he picked up one house, and then a second, with his ex-wife. He wound up with more than $60 million worth of real estate on the shores of Lake Washington. In 2010, the then-couple embarked on a reported $28 million renovation of the property.

Bezos has since relocated to Florida, so don’t expect to see Sanchez traipsing around Puget Sound anytime soon.

Texas ranch

Bezos’ West Texas ranch , which he purchased in 2004, accounts for the majority of his land holdings, reported to be somewhere around 400,000 acres.

The property is the site of Bezos’ space company, Blue Origin, and was the setting for a Vogue feature on Sanchez. The property apparently includes an underground, 10,000-year clock and an Astronaut Village.

Sanchez told the magazine that she’s planning to go to space aboard one of Blue Origin’s suborbital rocket flights.

The two also spend time on their yacht, Koru. It’s apparently where Bezos proposed to Sanchez and was the setting for an at-sea engagement party that included the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Bill Gates .

Who Is Alice Cooper's Wife? All About Sheryl Goddard

Alice Cooper and Sheryl Goddard have been married for nearly 50 years

Rockstar Alice Cooper 's facade may not hint that he's a family man, but he and his wife, Sheryl Goddard, have a love story for the ages.

Cooper and Goddard have been married for nearly 50 years. The pair wed in March 1976, just a few years after they fatefully met through their work, with Goddard having played a variety of roles in Cooper's stage show.

"It's almost hard to do the show without her," Cooper told Billboard in 2019, decades after the pair started working together. "It's almost like Burns and Allen; we're backstage putting makeup on, talking, laughing."

So, who is Alice Cooper's wife? Here is everything to know about Sheryl Goddard and her relationship with the rock signer.

She is a dancer

Goddard was once a self-described "classical snob," as she had trained in ballet in New York City.

"I knew I couldn't be a ballerina, but not because I didn't have potential," she told PEOPLE in 1978. "Ballet was extremely vicious, political and narrow-minded."

Despite training in classical dance, Goddard moved on to stylized dance and became a choreographer.

She met her husband on the stage

Goddard said she had never heard of Cooper until she accepted an invitation to audition for his show. She signed on for the role to pay the bills, as rock and roll was not her genre of choice at the time.

Goddard eventually joined Cooper on tour as a dancer for the Welcome to My Nightmare show in 1975. While on the road, they started as TV-watching pals. After a while, the pair began a romantic relationship and married soon afterward.

In the years since, their relationship has blossomed, both on- and offstage.

"We've both been in show business all our lives," Cooper told Billboard. "When we're onstage, she's not Sheryl, my wife. She's the character and I'm the character. We don't look at each other as husband and wife onstage. But the great thing is, afterwards, we're on tour. We're never apart. It's great."

She and Cooper share three children

The pair's eldest child, daughter Calico Cooper, was born on May 19, 1981. She followed in her parents' footsteps and is a multi-talented artist who sings, acts and directs. Calico even helped choreograph for her father's tour celebrating his 21st album, Brutal Planet . In 2015, she married Jed Williams, according to Hello! .

Alice and Goddard's second child, Dashiell "Dash" Cooper, was born on June 3, 1985. Dash is also a musician through his band CO-OP . He and his wife, Morgan Cooper, have three kids.

Sonora is the couple's youngest, born in 1992. Despite her siblings' involvement in the arts, Sonora has stayed out of the entertainment industry entirely, although it's unknown what she does for a living. She is married to Diego Diaz, and in 2020, Alice told Cleveland.com , "My daughter (Sonora) is going to have a baby in July."

She has helped keep Alice on the right path

For many years, Alice suffered from alcoholism, which took a toll on his marriage; Goddard even filed for divorce due to the strain in their relationship. However, she was always determined to get him back on the wagon, and the pair reconciled once the rockstar got sober.

"He was not going anywhere except down," Goddard once recalled to PEOPLE. "He was never really drunk, but he just couldn't function — he was like a living vegetable. It put a lot of strain on me because I had to sign the papers to commit him."

Alice spent time at New York State Hospital rehabilitation center in White Plains, N.Y. "He couldn't get out," Goddard said, "without my written consent."

She and Alice have a "life pact"

Photo by Ron Galella, Ltd./Ron Galella Collection/Getty

Alice and Goddard made headlines in 2019 for potentially having a "death pact." However, Cooper set the record straight about his marriage on social media.

"Sheryl and I do NOT have a death pact, we have a LIFE pack," he wrote on Instagram . "We love life so much. What I was meaning was that because we're almost always together, at home and on the road, that if something did happen to either of us, we'd most likely be together at the time. But neither of us has a suicide pact. We have a life pact. And, besides, I'm booked through 2028, so …"

He clarified his comments further in an interview with Billboard .

"They like to sensationalize everything," the musician said. "They said, 'What happens if one of you dies?' and I said, 'Oh, that'll never happen. We've always talked about the fact we'll go together, in an airplane or ... If I walk down the street and get hit by lightning, she'll die too because of the fact she's right next to me.' The next thing you know, the paper comes out and it goes, 'Alice's Death Pact With Wife!' "

She and Alice are each other's home

After nearly 50 years of marriage, Alice and Goddard are often asked about the secret of their relationship. Alice said that being each other's home is the most important part.

When asked during a 2016 interview what has kept them strong over the last half-century, the rocker responded: "People ask me, they say, 'When you go on the road, it must be hard leaving home.' I go, 'I bring home with me.' Because really, a house is a house, but a home is who you are with in the house."

The Morning

Real estate fantasies.

Celebrity agents are selling a dream, as real homes get more out of reach.

Well-dressed guests sit at three banquet tables in a backyard surrounding a long, narrow swimming pool. A Spanish-style building and palm trees are in the background.

By Debra Kamin

She is a real estate reporter.

There are few acts more optimistic than shopping for a home. You walk through its doors, run your fingertips along its appliances and see your face reflected in its windows and mirrors. You consider untapped versions of your life, imagining yourself waking up every day in that bedroom, cooking every day in that kitchen and letting the years unfold between those walls.

Real estate agents understand this allure. The good ones package it up, serving it to clients in the form of property tours that show off not only a house, but also the life that a house can offer. And the really good ones are so adept at spinning the fantasy that they’re building careers on television out of it.

For a new story for The Times’s real estate section , which published this morning, I spent time with agents from shows like “Million Dollar Listing” and “Buying Beverly Hills” to understand how they became stars in their own right, and what that tells us about the state of housing in the U.S.

Hollywood luxury

Late last year, I flew to Los Angeles to attend an awards show for some of Hollywood’s most famous real estate agents. Seated in the backyard of a sprawling estate once owned by Madonna, I watched as Mauricio Umansky, who stars on Netflix’s “Buying Beverly Hills,” cracked jokes and presented awards like “Stratospheric Sale of the Year.” (The winner was Kurt Rappaport, who represented Beyoncé and Jay-Z in their purchase of a $190 million Malibu pad last May.)

“This is the Oscars of real estate,” Alexander Ali, a public relations official, told me that night. He runs a company, the Society Group, devoted solely to promoting celebrity agents and the houses that they list.

Millions of us are hooked on his clients’ content. The most recent season of “Selling Sunset” brought in about 3.2 million streaming viewers per episode, according to Nielsen Media Research; “Buying Beverly Hills” drew 1.7 million per episode in its first season.

I also toured homes with some of the celebrity agents, and felt the seductive power of their extravagance firsthand.

One of my hosts was Aaron Kirman, who starred on CNBC’s “Listing Impossible.” We drove around Los Angeles while he pointed out houses owned by Chrissy Teigen and Leonardo DiCaprio. At a red light, he reached into his Range Rover’s center console, which is refrigerated and stocked with protein shakes, then helped me put my seat into massage mode, so a dozen nodules could melt away the knots in my back.

We pulled up to a $58 million home in Bel Air. The house, a temple of glass and curved steel, has nine bedrooms, 13 bathrooms and a central spiral staircase that alone cost $1.25 million. Usher borrowed the space to shoot his music video for “Ruin” just before this year’s Super Bowl.

I sat on the home’s plush sofas and stared at the soaring ceiling of its primary suite. Outside, its infinity pool glinted in the sun. And I wondered: In an alternate timeline, one marked by different life choices, could this have been my home?

Refuge in fantasy

In the real world, the dream of homeownership is more elusive than it has been in decades. Housing affordability in the U.S. is at a crushing low, with skyrocketing prices, elevated mortgage rates and a shortage of inventory for low- and middle-income households.

Instead of turning us away from escapist real estate television, though, these struggles seem to have increased the programs’ allure. The reason, one sociologist told me, is the “parasocial relationship” that viewers can form with celebrity agents: They feel like friends to us, and as a result, we live vicariously through them when we watch.

In one of the cruelest housing markets in history, Americans are turning to television to fulfill their real estate desires.

THE INTERVIEW

This weekend, The New York Times is publishing the first entries in a new feature called The Interview, the successor to David Marchese’s Talk column from The Times Magazine. The Interview will feature two alternating hosts — David, as well as Lulu Garcia-Navarro, whom you may know from her work on the podcast “First Person” and from NPR. Their conversations will also appear as a podcast, “The Interview.”

Below is an excerpt from Lulu’s first interview in the series, with Yair Lapid, the leader of Israel’s opposition party.

Lulu Garcia-Navarro

By Lulu Garcia-Navarro

Israel is being accused of genocide, of war crimes. And as we’ve talked, you’ve defended the conduct of the war. And you’ve referred to yourself as an Israeli patriot. But can patriotism not also be defined as questioning the conduct of this war?

Of course it can. I assume what I was reacting to is what I feel is the betrayal of the intellectuals. Meaning that the intellectuals of the West, or some of them, have betrayed the idea of complexity. And the dialogue we have with the outside world is either with people who are chanting slogans they don’t really understand or who are determined to make this into a one-sided story.

What I’m thinking about actually is just what it means in a moment like this to effectively, even if you care about Israel and the Israelis, say this is not OK. You know, earlier you disparaged the young people in the U.S. marching for Palestinian rights, and you say that they’re clueless and misled.

I don’t think they’re marching for Palestinian rights. I think they’re marching against Palestinian rights. I think what they’re doing is against the best interest of the Palestinian people.

Doesn’t that dismiss their legitimate concerns about civilian deaths?

Well, I think they should understand that there is a reason why everything is happening, and the reason is Hamas. The reason is not Israel. I mean, not to be able to even track why what is happening is happening is a total lack of even, I don’t know, intellectual dignity or at least curiosity.

You can read, or listen to, the full interview here .

“ Barbenheimer ” is a hard act to follow. But as Hollywood enters another summer movie season, armed with fewer superheroes and a landscape vastly altered by the strikes, it’s worth remembering the classic William Goldman quote about what works: “Nobody knows anything.”

Four decades later, that still may be true. Yet one thing Hollywood has learned in releasing films through the pandemic and the strikes is how to pivot quickly.

The summer of 2023 brought a new enthusiasm for moviegoing, with the fortuitous counterprogramming of “Barbie” and “ Oppenheimer ,” and surprise hits like “ Sound of Freedom ,” helping the season’s box office crack $4 billion for the first time since 2019. But before the industry could take a victory lap, there was another crisis looming with the dual Hollywood strikes , which shuttered most productions for months.

MOVIES FIND A WAY POST-STRIKE

In the fallout, theaters lost big summer titles like “Mission: Impossible 8,” “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts” to 2025. But they gained a gem in Jeff Nichols’ “The Bikeriders” (June 21), about a 1960s Midwestern motorcycle club, as studios moved films around on the summer chessboard. “Deadpool & Wolverine,” once set to kick off the summer moviegoing season on May 3 like many Marvel movies before it, is now sitting happily on July 26, patiently waiting to dominate the summer charts.

This image released by A24 shows Clarence Maclin, right, in a scene from "Sing Sing." (A24 via AP)

“I do love being right there in the belly of summer,” said director Shawn Levy. “That’s a juicy moment.”

The kickoff weekend instead belongs to an original film about a different kind of superhero. “ The Fall Guy ,” starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, is part romantic-comedy, part action-comedy, and all love letter to the stunt performers that make movies spectacular. It’s an earnest crowd-pleaser that could jumpstart a season that feels, in some ways, like a throwback, with full-throttle spectacles (“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” “Twisters”), comedies (“Babes”), IMAX wonder (“The Blue Angels”) and even a Kevin Costner Western.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has seen the highs and lows of summer movies over the decades, with blockbusters including “ Top Gun: Maverick ” and the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies.

This season, he has three very different offerings on the calendar, two are fourth installments in popular franchises — “Beverly Hills Cop” (July 3, Netflix) and “Bad Boys” (June 7, theaters) — and one was planned for streaming but tested so well that it’s getting a theatrical rollout (“Young Woman and the Sea,” May 31).

“People just want to be entertained,” Bruckheimer said. “It really comes down to us to make the right movies that they want to go see.”

THE $4 BILLION GOAL POST

A Hollywood summer lasts 123 days from the first Friday in May through Labor Day Monday in September. Pre-pandemic, $4 billion was a normal summer intake and theaters could count on anywhere between 37 and 42 films to open on over 2,000 screens. The outlier was 2017, which had only 35 movies on over 2,000 screens and topped out at $3.8 billion. It makes last summer’s $4 billion haul with 32 wide releases (45% of the $9 billion domestic haul) even more impressive.

This summer should have 32 wide releases as well and over 40 movies opening in 500+ theaters. Notably only one, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” is a Marvel movie (Sony’s “Kraven the Hunter” shifted to a December release date late Friday ) and are the only superhero movies on the calendar until the “Joker” sequel in the fall.

“People are going to see movies, not box office, and it looks like a really solid summer from a moviegoer’s perspective,” said Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for Comscore.

REVVING UP FOR ORIGINALS

“The Bikeriders” was one that planned for an awards season rollout, with a turbo boost from stellar reviews out of the Telluride Film Festival hailing star turns for Austin Butler and Jodie Comer. But as they inched closer to its release date it became clear that the strikes were not going to resolve in time for a press tour.

“It was kind of like walking on frozen glass for three months,” Nichols said. “I was touring around doing press and trying to build this energy on my own. Let me tell you, it’s not the same as Austin Butler.”

Later in June, after a splashy Cannes debut , Kevin Costner will begin rolling out his two-part Western epic “Horizon: An American Saga,” set during the Civil War. And as always there are a slew of Sundance breakouts peppered throughout the summer, from Jane Shoenbrun’s “I Saw the TV Glow” and “Didi” to “ Thelma ” and “Good One.”

FARE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Family films often go into hyperdrive in the summer, capitalizing on long days out of school. This year has plenty, like “The Garfield Movie” and “Despicable Me 4,” re-releases of Studio Ghibli classics, and streaming options (“Thelma the Unicorn”). But perhaps none has more anticipation behind it than “Inside Out 2” (June 14, theaters), which meets up with Riley as she enters her teenage years as a new group of emotions crash Joy’s party, including Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment.

“That age gives us everything we need and love for a Pixar film,” director Kelsey Mann said. “It’s full of drama, it has potential for a lot of heart, and I could also make it really funny.”

John Krasinski is also delving into the inner world of children with his ambitious live-action hybrid “IF” (May 17, theaters) about the imaginary friends that get left behind and two humans (Ryan Reynolds and Cailey Fleming) who can still see them.

THE ALLURE OF HORROR

Audiences seeking the adrenaline rush of horrors and thrillers have plenty of choices, including “MaXXXine,” the conclusion to Ti West’s accidental Mia Goth trilogy (“X” and “ Pearl ”) that debuts around the fourth of July.

Goth’s aspiring actress has made her way to Hollywood where a killer is stalking Hollywood starlets around the time of the home video boom of the 1980s.

“We recreated the sleazy side of Hollywood in a hopefully charming way,” West said. “It’s definitely a pretty wild night at the movies. A big, rockin’, fun movie.”

On June 28, audiences can also delve into the beginnings of “A Quiet Place” with a prequel set on “Day One” starring Luptia Nyong’o and “Stranger Things’” Joseph Quinn. Director Michael Sarnoski said they wanted to explore the “scope and promise” of a Quiet Place movie in New York. Later, Fede Álvarez brings his horror acumen to “Alien: Romulus” (Aug. 16), set between the first two.

M. Night Shyamalan is back as well with a thriller set at a pop concert (“Trap,” Aug. 9) and his daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan, makes her directorial debut with the spooky, Ireland-set “The Watchers” (June 7) with Dakota Fanning.

“It’s very suspenseful and unexpected,” Ishana said. “And it’s very much built for the experience of being in a theater.”

THE STARS ARE STREAMING

Much to the chagrin of theater owners, big summer movies have also existed off the big screen for years now. And the streamers have movie stars and spectacle with the festival favorite “Hit Man,” the Anne Hathaway romance “The Idea of You,” Jerry Seinfeld’s starry pop-tart movie “Unfrosted” and a Mark Wahlberg/Halle Berry action comedy “The Union.”

They have franchises too: “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” (July 3) was a movie that was in and out of development since the mid-1990s, but got new life when Paramount licensed the rights to Netflix.

“We raised our hand to make sure we got the franchise right and kept the integrity and fun of the original,” Bruckheimer said.

This installment adds an emotional component in which Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley reunites with his estranged daughter (Taylour Paige). It also sees the return of Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot and adds Kevin Bacon and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

On Aug. 9, Apple TV+ will also have “The Instigators,” a new action-comedy starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck as normal guys attempting a heist. “Midnight Run” was one of their touchstones.

“The script was so funny and I wanted to really embrace that,” Doug Liman, who directed, said.

BUT ALSO, NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING

Remember, anything can happen with summer movies.

We can pretend we knew that “Barbie” would be the biggest movie of the year , but would anyone have bet that an R-rated drama about the father of the atomic bomb would have made almost three times as much as Harrison Ford’s last ride as Indiana Jones? Or that a $14 million crowdfunded movie from a new studio about child trafficking with next to zero promotion would earn over $250 million?

“Nobody knows anything is right,” said “The Instigators” producer Kevin Walsh. “The movie business is so unpredictable. You never know what’s going to work and what isn’t. But you have your taste. And following your taste and your instincts in this business is paramount.”
