The Tour Edge Hot Launch C523 and E523 hybrids are solid performers – easy to hit with both distance and forgiveness.  Each model is distinctive in terms of looks and target golfer.  Stand out price.

Introduction

Zack hit the nail on the head for the Hot Launch brand in the opener of his review of the C523 and E523 drivers [check it out HERE ] with “the most value-driven golf clubs in the industry.”   I realize that’s a teaser, but I encourage you to hold off looking at the price until the end of the review.  And just like the 523 drivers, Tour Edge offers both the “C” and “E” models in their Hot Launch 523 hybrids.

For readers that aren’t familiar with the Hot Launch line, “C” refers to Competition – aligned with the game improvement category – and “E” to Extreme – the more super-game improvement version.  I’ll differentiate and evaluate both in the sections below.

Tour Edge made it easy to identify each 523 Hot Launch hybrid.  At address, the E523 (above, left) has offset and a rounded head, while the C523 is toe-centric pear shaped.   Both heads are large, yet appropriate for their categories.

Looking at the soles sides by side, the size difference in the two heads is more apparent.  Both hybrids have a lot of technical features exposed , yet the designers did a nice job at keeping the soles from looking too busy.  The knit headcovers look sharp in the bag.

Face on, both Hot Launch 523 hybrids are again unique.  While the C523 (below, top) has a traditional silhouette, the E523 face is thinner towards the heel and toe, creating a distinctive look.  The white paint fill really pops on the dark faces.

Sound & Feel

The Hot Launch C523 hybrid produced a crisp metallic ‘bink’ that was fairly consistent across the face.  The E523 hybrid sound was a bit deeper and slightly louder.  For both clubs, feedback to my hands was minimal.  If you enjoy the feel of a solid strike more than the need for feedback, these 2023 Hot Launch hybrids are sure to please .

Performance

I found three common traits between the two Tour Edge Hot Launch 523 hybrids: easy launch, good distance, and excellent forgiveness.   That’s a desirable trio for most golfers.  And while the face design and shafts are the same for both models (more on the face in a moment), the other design features are distinctly different.

The Hot Launch C523 achieves its easy launch by placing weight in the trailing edge of the sole.  I loved looking up to see balls flying high and straight – my preferred flight – towards the green.  For more ball speed and resultant distance, Tour Edge increased face flex by nearly doubling the size of the Power Channel .  I attribute the excellent forgiveness I observed to the channel running the full length of the face.

Along with the offset I mentioned earlier, Tour Edge placed weight in the heel of the Hot Launch E523 to add to a slice fighting-design .  The right to left ball flight wasn’t drastic, and like any club, it won’t cure a nasty slice.  The other design feature specific to the E523 model is the Houdini Sole.  This reduces turf interaction by 35% according to Tour Edge.  I really enjoyed how my thin strikes still got up in the air with near normal carry.

I’ll close out this section with a quick highlight of the proven Diamond Face VFT Technology that’s hidden behind the face.  Comprised of 39 diamond shapes with varying thicknesses, the segments act like mini-trampolines promoting faster ball speeds, reduced spin and more forgiveness on off-center hits.  It’s the same tech that Tour Edge uses in their Hot Launch drivers and fairway woods [review HERE ].  If you want to learn more about this technology, or any I’ve discussed, visit the Tour Edge Website – it’s one of the best in the golf space for illustrations.

The Hot Launch 523 series is the 7th iteration on the value side of the Tour Edge family.  Both Tour Edge Hot Launch C523 and E523 hybrids were super easy to hit and offered a great balance of distance and forgiveness.  The Hot Launch C523 hybrid has a more traditional look and neutral setup.  In contrast, the E523 has the hallmarks of a slice fighting design – an offset hosel and heel weighting.  If you haven’t glanced at the price in the spec chart below, now’s the time.  You’ll see the Hot Launch C523 and E523 hybrids are among the most affordable hybrids available.

I need a hybrid with a 41* or 42* degree loft with high launch/low kick point graphite shaft that is flexible (ladies or senior). I don’t play with irons anymore. Right now I have 36* through 18* degree hybrids, and 47* through 58* wedges. I need to fill the gap between 36* and 47* with 1 club. What do you recommend? I am a 63 year old male scratch golfer.

That’s a hybrid I’m not familiar with Eric. I recommend working with a club fitter who can evaluate your gap.

I finally found a Tour Edge 40 degree 9 hybrid High Launch golf club and put a Ladies Flex graphite shaft on it. Hit it about 115 off the deck and 120 off a tee. I also have a 9 iron which is 40 degrees which I hit 110 yards off the deck and can choke down on the shaft to hit 105 yards. My 47 degree wedge I can hit 95 to 100 yards off the deck.

Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 Iron Review

I had never struck a Tour Edge golf club before the Hot Launch C524 Irons arrived on my doorstep, so I was keen to see if they could perform as well as some of the best irons on the market for a fraction of the price.

Retailing for just $79.99/£65.00 per iron, the price tag certainly caught my eye as many irons in this category sell for far more than double that price. On first inspection out of the box, there were no signs of why that may be from an aesthetic point of view. Each iron was beautifully finished and looked great when I put them down in the playing position. A generous blade length and ample offset let me know that these were irons designed with playability in mind, but overall the dimensions and proportions were excellent and framed the ball nicely.

From a shelf appeal point of view, it is a case of nearly but not quite for me. I am generally someone who appreciates a minimalist approach to looks when it comes to golf equipment and the C524 irons are just a touch fussy for my tastes from the back. I don’t mind a subtle accent color but the bright blue badge just wasn’t for me, although that is just personal preference and some players may love it. I just feel that leaving that black or grey would have given the iron a slightly more premium look and feel.

In terms of the tech, there is quite a lot going on. At first glance, you could be forgiven for thinking that these were a hollow-body construction iron as there is no visual cavity, however, this is somewhat of an optical illusion. The cavity has simply been filled with Tour Edge’s VIBRCOR, which is a high-grade TPU designed to improve sound and feel. 

Additional toe weighting has been added to the set with the intention of stabilizing impact and providing additional ball speed on off-center strikes.

I tested the Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 irons at Saunton Golf Club , using my FullSwing KIT launch monitor and TaylorMade TP5 golf balls, both on the practice ground and out on the course.

Before I get into the launch monitor data, I wanted to give a special mention to the feel attributes of these irons. Impact provided a pleasant lively sensation but there was also a real depth to the strike that isn’t always present in the game-improvement iron category. For me, the Mizuno JPX 923 Hot Metal is still the gold standard in terms of feel in this genre, but quite honestly, when coupled with some excellent turf interaction, the C524 iron is not a million miles behind.

Launch monitor data was pretty strong across the board, with ball speed and distance competitive with just about anything else. With the 7-iron coming in at 29˚ it sits within the higher end of its peers loft-wise but still managed to produce a ball speed of 129.3mph for me with a mid-low launch and spin of 15.5˚ and 5412rpm respectively, which culminated in a healthy carry number of 188 yards. 

I did notice a slight right tendency in flight compared to some other game improvement irons which tend to feature more of a draw bias if anything, and I wonder whether that has anything to do with the additional toe weighting. It wasn't too severe, however, just something to note.

The Hot Launch C524 irons come with a stock steel option of the True Temper Elevate MPH95 shaft in R or S flex, and there are more weight and flex options with the Aldila Ascent PL stock graphite option. There are also three sizes of Lamkin grips to choose from.

Overall, I was very pleased with the performance and feel of the Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 irons, and when you factor in the price tag, I think there is some exceptional value for money to be had. In terms of raw performance data, I would feel comfortable putting them up against anything else in the game improvement category and be very confident they would hold their own.

Theatres in Moscow

Cultural life of Moscow city is various and rich! Operas, ballets, symphonic concerts... Russian composers have created some of the most beautiful classical music. Russian classical music is very popular in Moscow. It is performed in many beautiful historical venues. Do not forget to include a visit to a concert hall in your itinerary when you are planning your stay in Moscow! And do it in advance.

There are almost no restrictions on dress code in Russian theatres. Visitors may wear jeans and sports shoes, they may have a backpack with them. Only shorts are not allowed.

A typical feature of Russian theatre – visitors are bringing a lot of flowers which they present to their favorite performers after the show.

Here are some practical advices where to go and how to buy tickets.

The Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre is the oldest, the most famous and popular opera and ballet theatre in Russia. The word “Bolshoi” means “big” in Russian. You can buy a ticket online in advance, 2-3 months before the date of performance on the official website . Prices for famous ballets are high: 6-8 thousand rubles for a seat in stalls. Tickets to operas are cheaper: you can get a good seat for 4-5 thousand rubles. Tickets are cheaper for daytime performances and performances on the New Stage. The New Stage is situated in the light-green building to the left of the Bolshoi's main building. The quality of operas and ballets shown on the New Stage is excellent too. However, you should pay attention that many seats of the Bolshoi’s Old and New Stages have limited visibility . If you want to see the Bolshoi’s Old Stage but all tickets are sold out, you can order a tour of the theatre. You can book such a tour on the official website.

If you want, following Russian tradition, to give flowers to the performers at the end of the show, in the Bolshoi flowers should be presented via special staff who collects these flowers in advance.

In August the Bolshoi is closed.

The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre

This theatre is noteworthy. On one hand, it offers brilliant classical opera and ballet performances. On the other hand, it is an experimental venue for modern artists. The theatre has a very beautiful historic building and a stage with a good view from every seat. Tickets are twice cheaper than in the Bolshoi.

The Novaya Opera

“Novaya” means “New” in Russian. This opera house was founded in 1991 by a famous conductor Eugene Kolobov. Its repertoire has several directions: Russian and Western classics, original shows and divertissements, and operas of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is very popular with Muscovites for excellent quality of performances, a comfortable hall, a beautiful Art Nouveau building and a historic park Hermitage, which is situated right next to it. Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center

The Opera Center has become one of the best theatrical venues in Moscow. It was founded in 2002 by great diva Galina Vishnevskaya. Nowadays its artistic director is Olga Rostropovich, daughter of Galina Vishnevskaya and her husband Mstislav Rostropovich, great cellist and conductor. Not only best young opera singers perform here, but also world music stars do; chamber and symphonic concerts, theatrical productions and musical festivals take place here. Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory

These are two major concert halls for symphonic music in Moscow. Both feature excellent acoustics, impressive interior, various repertoire and best performers. Moscow International Performing Arts Center (MIPAC)

This modern and elegant concert hall houses performances of national and foreign symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo instrumentalists, opera singers, ballet dancers, theatre companies, jazz bands, variety and traditional ensembles. Actually, it has three concert halls placed on three different levels and having separate entrances. The moscow city tourism committee recognized the market demands and organized the shaping mice future conference for representatives of the indian mice industry, to introduce them to the tourism strengths of the russian capital..

The event (Moscow City Tourism Committee conference) took place on April 19 in Delhi and brought together over 100 participants from MICE agencies of both countries, corporate customers, representatives of the travel industry in Moscow, Aeroflot and the Indian branches of Sberbank.

Business tourism is one of the most promising directions for Moscow. In 2023, the capital was visited by 3.7 million business tourists – 7% more than in 2022. And India remains one of the leaders among visitors from non-CIS countries in terms of the number of business travelers.

“The Russian capital as a center of business tourism and corporate events is already an established and a strong brand in the international arena,” – commented Anastasia Popova, Deputy General Director for International and Industry Cooperation of Project Office for the Development of Tourism and Hospitality in Moscow. – Now our task is to demonstrate to our Indian partners all the possibilities of organizing high value MICE events in Moscow in combination with already proven tourist programs”.

At the Shaping MICE Future Conference industry experts from Russia and India pronounced statements and speeches on the future of MICE events in these two countries, a presentation of the MICE potential of Moscow was showcased, and an analytical report on the state of the outbound MICE market in India was presented to the visitors.

During the panel discussion participants assessed the current status and interaction peculiarities with the MICE market in India, and developed recommendations for the MICE industry in Moscow during the general brainstorming session. Representatives of the Indian MICE industry participated in B2B negotiations to find new cross-partners in the Moscow business environment and among representatives of the hospitality industry.  

Representatives of the MICE industry took part in the event from Moscow. Among them were DMC (Grand Rus, Academservice, Headed Goose, Satguru Travel, Isba Rus, Hug the Bear, Mellenium Group)) as well as representatives of other partners interested in the development of MICE cooperation between Russia and India: Global transfers provider i’way and hotels Edge Seligerskaya & Edge Vinogradovo Moscow by Rotana.

“In 2024, we have witnessed a significant surge (more than quadruple) in the demand for transfers by Russians visiting India, both for business and leisure purposes. Muscovites are leading the trend, with 80% of transfer bookings originating from the capital since the beginning of the year. Additionally, we observe a growing interest from Indian tourism agencies in exploring Russia, resulting in a substantial increase in our collaboration,” — commented Dmitriy Saraykin, co-founder of Global Transfer Provider i’way. 

The Shaping MICE Future conference allowed the Moscow City Tourism Committee to form a pool of MICE industry representatives in Moscow to prioritize incoming requests for events, clarify India’s requirements for business and corporate events to build mutually effective work. Indian colleagues received up-to-date information about Moscow as a safe and attractive MICE destination, and were able to find potential partners among representatives of the MICE industry of the Russian capital and were able to present the MICE market in India.

We firmly believe that with concerted efforts and strategic initiatives, Moscow has the potential to emerge as a top-choice destination for Indian tourists,” — shared his impressions Mudit Mathur, director of Tours Delite India, representing Academ Service – Russia in India.

The conference also assessed the solutions to foreign demand for non-standard venues and elements in MICE programs, such as museums, parks, theaters and others. Holding MICE events at offbeat locations, such as the State Historical Museum, the Moscow Planetarium and Khudozhestvenny Cinema, is becoming popular. This helps to attract conference organizers and creates a unique experience for the participants. Working in this format, many visitors who came to Moscow on a business trip want to return with their families and spend time as regular tourists.

In 2023, 60 thousand guests from India visited Moscow – a quarter more than a year earlier. This year, according to the results of January and February India entered the top 5 countries in terms of the volume of e-visas issued. E-visa was one of the significant factors in the recovery of demand for hotel services and high utilization (76%) of Moscow hotels in 2023 and, as a consequence, the growth of international tourist traffic, the activation of business and classical tourists from India, China, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and so on.

One of the significant initiatives launched to support the growth of the tourist flow is the Moscow MICE Ambassadors Program – an online certification program for representatives of the Indian market, which aims to create demand for Moscow as a MICE destination.

The Moscow City Tourism Committee and NIMA (Network of Indian MICE Agents) jointly launched the pilot project last year. The first 50 people from the Indian side who underwent the training and learned the intricacies of organizing business events in the Russian capital have received the relevant certificates. In 2024, the program will be made available to other MICE operators as well and is expected to expand to a total of 200 Moscow MICE Ambassadors by the end of the year .
