What are Interline Cruise Rates?

If you're lucky enough to fall upon this article, you're also lucky enough to know that such a thing as interline cruise rates exist. :) And that means you're probably in the travel industry. Yahoo! We're also in the travel industry and work with travel advisors!

So what exactly are these interline cruise rates, who can use them, which cruise lines offer them, and how can you book them? Have a seat and we'll break it all down for you! (Unless you're walking while reading this. Then take a seat at your own risk.)

Here's a short explanation that doesn't quite tell the entire story: Cruise line interline rates are a special class of discounted fares cruise lines offer to employees of airlines.

Who can Use Cruise Line Interline Rates?

But that's not all folks! In a time where companies often cut perks and rarely add them, I'm convinced the cruise lines either have forgotten about their interline rates, or are the NICEST people in the world! Here's why:

  • You can be an active or retired employee of the airline.
  • Interline rates aren't just for employees! It's almost always extended to their immediate family members as well (but may be at a higher rate).
  • And the cruise lines don't just spread the interline rate love to airlines, people! Depending on the cruise line, these interline rates are offered to GDS employees, IATA employees, the often forgotten, but oh-so-important air traffic controllers that keep us all safe, and cargo airline companies—looking at you DHL, UPS, and FedEx employees!

Isn't that amazingly generous in this dog-eat-dog world?! (Apologies if your canine finds that offensive like mine do. Old habits die hard.)

And here's the truth. I'm still going to think cruise lines are the nicest people in the world, because that's just a nice thought to have, but the reality is that cruise lines offer these rates on sailings where there are extra rooms to fill. And who better to offer these rooms to than airline employees, who can fly non-rev (non-revenue) at a deeply discounted rate on super short notice? A match made in heaven, if you ask me. :)

If you qualify for interline rates, expect to show proof of employment to the booking agency.

Which Cruise Lines offer Interline Rates?

Pretty much all of the major lines (and some of the smaller lines). Even some river cruise lines offer interline rates! Here's a list of just some of the cruise lines that offer interline rates:

  • AmaWaterways
  • Carnival Cruise Line
  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Costa Cruises
  • Cunard Line
  • Disney Cruise Line
  • Emerald Waterways
  • Holland America Line
  • Hurtigruten
  • MSC Cruises
  • Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Oceania Cruises
  • Paul Gaugin Cruises
  • Princess Cruise Line
  • Regent Seven Seas
  • Royal Caribbean
  • Seabourn Cruises
  • SeaDream Yacht Club
  • Scenic Cruises
  • Uniworld Cruises
  • Virgin Voyages
  • Windstar Cruises

And the boring disclaimer for you: Interline rates may not be available on all cruise itineraries and are subject to availability at the time of booking. It's worth noting that interline rates may also have certain restrictions and exclusions, such as blackout dates, that may not apply to regular fares. They also may not always be the lowest rate available. Boooor-ing.

Read on because in our next section, we'll cover why you may not always have access to all these interline rates, even if you meet all the qualifications.

How and Where to Book an Interline Cruise Rate

So here's the thing about interline rates, they're special! Not only are they only for a certain group of people and on specific sailings, but you can't just book them anywhere. You have gots to book interline rates with a special travel agency that has contracts with the cruise lines to sell these fares.

The nice thing is, you don't have to book them yourself and get to use the amazing services of a travel agency!

We love travel advisors here so if you haven't used an agency before, let us introduce you to the 3 real-life ways travel agencies can save you money AND the advantages of booking with an advisor vs. booking online . Seriously. Support a small business that works hard in the travel industry like you, instead of a large corporate conglomerate!

Okay, enough of my PSA. :) Here's a list of some of the agencies out there that are approved to sell interline cruise rates:

  • A.B.Sea (get it?!?!)
  • AirlineStaffRates.com
  • ID90 Travel
  • InsiderTravel
  • InterlineRates.com
  • InterlineTravel.com
  • MyInterline.com

Did we miss one? Let us know in the comments!

Not an Airline Employee but Want Interline Rates?

Ugh, that was totally a clickbait heading because you really can't get interline rates unless you meet the qualifications. But do not despair!! Because there's another career in the travel industry that allows you access to some stellar rates as well. A travel advisor! ( No, it's not a dead career in the least !)

If you're curious about great rates (and how can you not be if you're on this article?), check out our free PDF of 200+ travel agent rates . :)

For the average cruise traveler, say the word “interline” and you might as well be speaking a foreign language. But for those in the know, the word unlocks all sorts of special advantages and travel goodies.

For interline booking, it turns out, provides reduced rates for airline employees, their immediate family, parents and retirees who want to take a cruise vacation at a special price.

In addition, other travel benefits are available to U.S. military personnel and veterans, members of police and fire departments and employees of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association. As Wikipedia writes :

"Interline discounts on cruises and hotels can be booked through interline travel agencies. To qualify, the traveler must provide proof of eligibility, such as a copy of their airline ID badge or letter of employment on airline letterhead."

Interline has always been a bit of an insider's game, with only select agencies proficient of making it work on behalf of clients, so we try to shed some light on the subject in this Q&A. All you really need to know is that interline can save you lots of money in your travels if you're eligible.

Now that cruise bookings are booming again, even if ships aren't sailing yet, I thought it would be a good time to interview Diane Fish, whose Twin Fish Interline travel agency — the primary partner of Cruiseable — has been booking cruise travelers for two decades.

JD: A lot of folks aren't aren't familiar with what interline is. Help us understand.

Travel agent Diane Fish:

Diane : Interline is the term used when you work for an airline like Delta and you are going to fly on another carrier as one of the benefits of working for an airline. It's a buzzword in the airline industry that refers to a rate that applies to airline employees and retirees and their immediate families. And a lot of people and family members don't even realize they're eligible for these reduced rates.

So it could apply to any person in any department of any airline.

Any employee, any department, anywhere. And their immediate family. There are hundreds of thousands of airline employees working and there is not a day that goes by that I don’t explain to an airline employee the benefits they can take advantage of. They get the air with their employer and they get the cruise or land from us.

And all the airlines take part in this?

Yes. If you work for Jetblue and you want to fly Southwest, there is an interline department at each airline. There is an agreement, with negotiated rates, accessible through an airline employee portal, that the public is not privy to.

Do airline employees go directly to the other airline, or do they go to a travel agent to take advantage of this?

They actually have a pass bureau. The pass bureau is where they get their passes to fly on other carriers as well as other benefits. Every airline employee has to log in and list themselves for a flight, go to the airport and wait until the airline clears the flight, and then the employee can pick up the pass to board the flight. Understandably, there is a hush clause where the employees do not talk about it, do not brag about it, they keep quiet. And when they travel, they pay taxes only.

Can they get on pretty heavily traveled flights or do they have to wait until something opens up?

The airline will not put them on a flight that's full. They must take care of the paying passengers. But a lot of my clients now are looking for deals on airlines as well, so we are actually selling them airline tickets.

Tell us a little about your agency Twin Fish.

We’re not the biggest, but we’re the best. The clients who have been with me for 20 years are still here. They trust us. We handle reunions, weddings, and we've arranged 50th wedding anniversaries. So many you just can’t imagine. And we handle travel for a lot of airline employees.

How do those employees find out about Interline?

A lot of them don't know about it. They have to be inquisitive, they have to kind of ask questions in person and online. We’re happy to help them get their benefit. A lot of these people take a job in an airline, they think it’s just like a job in a bank. Then they realize there are travel benefits. And then they realize that not only they are eligible, their parents are eligible, and in some cases, their in-laws are eligible. So are their children, and the benefits continue when they retire.

What I think would be smart is for airlines to take us on as their interline department, because we can help their people get so many benefits at other airlines, and at hotels and cruise ships, too.

How do cruises come into the interline picture?

It’s a marriage. Airline employees get free air, and my agency doesn't book issue airline tickets, but guess what? The airline employees who fly from the U.S. to Barcelona or Rome need something to do when they get there.

Why not take a cruise? They can hop on all the major cruise lines for a lower fare than the general public. You can get some really nice rates from Norwegian , Royal Caribbean and others. It’s a privilege that they aren’t supposed to discuss with the general public, but it’s a benefit that they get for their service.

What kind of discounts are we talking about for cruises or hotels?

They vary. Sometimes as much as 50 to 75%. People think they can get a better deal by researching it on the Internet, but the fact is that they cannot.

Why do the cruise lines do that?

It’s a rate code established many years ago that only agencies like mine provide. I’m one of the few companies in the country that does this. It is not known to the general travel community.

Our agency negotiates reduced rate travel for airline employees to get a benefit they are entitled to, so they should call us for all their travel needs.

What about hotels?

Yes, special rates there, too. We're able to help airline employees, airline retirees, active military personnel and veterans find rates lower than they can find online at hundreds of hotels around the world.

Overwater bungalows at the Four Seasons Bora Bora. Airline employees can often snag overwater bungalows in Bora Bora or Tahiti at lower rates than the general public.

I don't think interline is very well known in the hotel world.

Marriott does it right for its employees. Every Marriott employee knows they get Marriott employee rates worldwide. And they can book in Europe, they can book in China. Marriott educates their employees on benefits. The airlines do not because they don’t own the product.

I talk to new employees at airlines every day, and they think they can get a better rate at Expedia. But what they don’t know is our relationships are for airline employees, so if I call a travel company up and I request an airline employee rate for our client and I say my client wants a place in Tahiti with a bungalow over the water, the online price would be $500 but the contract rate I have with the company gets it for $450, and the airline employee gets it for $235 per day. There is a rate structure in place from 50 years ago. Young people don’t realize they can get so many other things if they use the right channels.

You mentioned military discounts.

On Princess Cruises , if you are a military veteran, you can get an onboard credit up to $250 based on the number of days you travel. [See Princess Cruises benefits for military personnel .] We will fill out the papers, send them in, and we can provide you the onboard credit that you get, but most other agencies don't know the process.

What are the kinds of experiences you've heard about from travelers who've taken advantage of these programs?

One of our partners is Club Med . If you don’t want to take a cruise but want go to an island and want all-inclusive, I have to tell you, Club Med is the bang for the buck. The rate is half price for interline bookings. The reduced rate benefit at comparable resorts is $200-$250 per night. Club Med is going to be $85-$150, depending on the time of year. For instance, rates today start at $115 a day at Club Med Cancun and $105 at Club Med Ixtapa next month. We sell so much Club Med because of the value they provide. We have Turks and Caicos . We have a small private island on El Salvador. We have celebrities, we have ball players on there, and it’s fabulous.

I have one special client who went to the Turks and Caicos Club Med for a special 70th birthday. She had the time of her life as a single woman there. And then we have families who really enjoy the experience -- they go snorkeling and do all the water sports.

One other thing about Turks. The thing to understand about Club Med is they pick the beach first, then they build the property. so they have the best beaches on whatever island they are on, and if you like beaches, that is the place to go. I have to tell you that the Maldives property is like going to Tahiti for about one third of the price. All the honeymooners who want a magical escape, you go to the Maldives and you are going to pay less money. Over-the-water bungalows, all inclusive.

The Cancun property is also amazing, with family units where the parents get a king bed, then twin beds for the kids. You walk out the door you have your lounge chairs, your shower outside and you walk a few steps to the beach. There's a family section, another section for couples and honeymooners. Club Med just hired Cirque du Soleil to do their trapeze programs, designed to teach the general public how to do the trapeze. I did it. The kids did it and they loved it. Then they put the kids in a show. It’s a great place to go to have a total family experience.

Right now we have interline rates through February. You have to be flexible, to wait for the price. If you call me right now and book, we will give you a private offer, and if the rate goes down before you pay in full, we can switch it to the reduced rate benefit!.

It sounds like airline employees have two good choices, to go on a cruise, or a land vacation to Club Med or other properties.

Absolutely. I would like to tell people, don’t leave the money on the table by booking direct. Use your travel agent, who understands the process and the best value and who's able to provide the best pricing and the best sound advice.

anybody have experience using "interline" fares

Working for an airline or having a family member that does gives us the opportunity to use interline fares. Some of the fares are quite reasonable. MY question' What do you give up when you use these fares? would still get credit for days travelled; How about the various forms of OBC such as military, stockholder, FCC. Also do you lose the other benefits of being Elite such as free laundry, internet and minibar/

I figure that with the wide experience base that is here on CC somebody will have some experience. Thanks in advance

I am a retired flight attendant and have used interline rates many times. I am also an elite passenger with Princess. The interline rates are great; however, you do not get any elite benefits, shipboard credit, laundry, etc. in fact, you get a "blue"card when you check in on embarkation day. The only thing you get is the accumulation of your cruise days. In fact, you have to check your cruise history afterward to make sure it's posted. Imhavebhad to contact Captain Circle a couple times to add my cruise days. Otherwise, I enjoy the savings.

Tempo

I have found that the interline rate is NOT that good after you find out all the other benefits you loose. Take your cruise rate from Princess then from the interline an take off all the OBC that they will not give you an I think you will be surprised that there is not a very good savings.

Lately I have used TA just to get more OB credit.

I cruise interline all the time. All I give up is OBC, military credit and stockholder credit. I compare pricing and see what gives me the best deal. My last Alaska cruise was booked onboard and I also put down my $100 deposit for a future cruise. You just need to do your homework to see what works best for you.

I'm an airline pilot and I've taken advantage of these rates for years (mostly on Carnival). On them, you don't give up any benefits. You maintain all the benefits that you're entitled to (I'm currently Platinum on them, so it would really suck if I had to sacrifice my benefits for a lower rate).   Carnival's interline rates are very competitive (usually a couple hundred dollars cheaper than the regular rate), plus you can book them directly through Carnival. No need to go through an interline agency or pay additional booking fees. :D

sayaguru

I have used interlink prices on a few cruises and have found prices to be very competitive. I have recently booked one on Princess at a price I am really happy with. I've only been on one Princess cruise before.

As others have said, compare the price with benefits lost. Check with individual cruise lines as to what their policies are with regard to benefits.

We've also booked non interlink fares as interlink fares are not available on all cruises.

As we get the cheap airfares we have found some amazing last minute interlink prices so if you can book last minute and don't need to go on one specific cruise there are some amazing deals.

I get very frustrated when I see some of the prices in the norther hemisphere. Damn Australia for being so far from everything.

I saw a $3,500 cruise for $299 last month. Admittedly it left 2 weeks later.

I'm taking long service next year and as soon as I see a deal I like I'm on a plane. :D:D

Passengers sailing on airline interline rates DO get all captain circle benefits, the only obc they would nor recieve is the carnival corp shareholder benefit.

lovetocruise2020

I do interline often.

What you should know about interline, is that if the ship is oversold, you will be the first to get bumped, unless you are a Travel Agent. It happens to agents sometimes too, but rarely, because the line wants you to sell them in the future. For Travel Agents, interline can be something like a

familiarization trip.

Airline interline rates are a benefit, but depending on the line it may not be worth it for you. I would not suggest using interline on an important cruise, only a short local one.

thehowards2008

I would have also thought interline rates were the same as other discounted rates, which are discussed openly. Plus, just from reading the above responses, it doesn't sound like there are many interline "benefits" at all other than the discounted rate.

How do interline fares compare to travel agent fares?
What I am seeing is some much lower fares on less desirable cabins i.e. inside, while the TA fares seem to be as good on more popular choices. I certainly have gotten a wide variety of answers. I know that my wife would hate to give up her "black card' and free internet.:D We may have to look for a short cruise to find out for ourselves;)

If you book via a interline agent you still get all captain circle benefits, interline is not a TA rate

  • 1 month later...

I am currently booked with interline rates for a 15 day to Hawaii. The price was signifcantly less. I am a Platinum member. When checking in later online I was not upgraded on my insurance to platinum and when I called Princess, I was told I forfeit the upgrade, OBC and internet minutes. I was upset at first but I have saved over $1200, so I'm still ahead of the game. I also did book with an interline agency. So, I guess I'll find out in a few weeks which is correct.

RickEk

So much conflicting information...

Here's the scoop:

Passengers booking through an interline agency are eligible for all Captain's Circle onboard benefits except the OBC awarded to folks who have traveled over 20 cruises. They are not eligible for the automatic Platinum vacation protection upgrade. They also cannot use FCC's to book the cruise.

That hardly seems fair since Princess's own "friends and family" fares do not get any of the perks like Internet plus they get a blue card no matter what level they've earned. The only positive is slightly lower fares and that the actual days cruised do count towards earning a higher level.
Maybe so, but I would think that the friends and family rates would be better than interline rates (but I could be wrong...:p)

Just curious - why do airline employees/retirees and their families get these reduced rates?

Friends and family travel almost for free, a lot jusy pay taxes only

I have helped my friend who has the friends and family rate book a number of cruises (we sail together) and sometimes the rates are not that much lower than you can get through a TA with their discount. Also, most of the time they don't get invited to the past passenger party. Now that they have enough days for platinum, they intend to stop booking through friends and family.

From my own experience, I once booked a friends and family rate. A little while later, my daughter who was working for Princess at the time, changed our cruise to a past passenger sale rate because it was cheaper!

Obviously, there could be different scenarios but these are what I have personal experience with.

Sailing on a interline rate is no different to a regular booking, once on board you will receive the exact same benefits etc, if you sre entitled to the most sailed passenger party you will be. All is the same.
I believe that is an employee rate that you are referring to. The employee has to be one of the people in the cabin and it needs to be pre-approved and is subject to cancellation if Princess decides they need the cabin. "Friends and Family" rate is available to immediate family members and a limited number of "friends" as designated by the employee with family members getting better pricing.

In that case, the interline rate is better than "Friends and Family".

It has been a number of years since we travelled under the "friends and family" rate but at that time a balcony cabin cost $100 per person per day and the mini-suites were $125 regardless of cruise length or destination. You did not get a choice of cabin location or any benefits or perks of captains circle and you had a blue card (no gold or platinum or elite). We decided it was not worth it for us to lose the benefits and obc. Also if you had any issues with crew or services you were strongly discouraged from making comments or complaints.

The 13 best solo cruises for 2024 (no supplement fare).

Set sail for a solo adventure at sea.

The Best Solo Cruises

Relax by the pool, attend shows, dine with new friends and more on your next solo cruise.

Whether you're embarking on your first cruise alone or you've been on solo cruises before, single travelers will find more options than ever when it comes to cruising solo. Many cruise lines offer single staterooms with the same amenities as other cabins, at a price similar to what you'd pay with double occupancy fares. You'll also find special promotions where the single supplement fee is reduced or waived, making it more affordable to reserve a spacious stateroom or luxurious suite with even more amenities – including personalized butler service, an added perk of booking with many luxury lines .

If you're ready for a maritime adventure, an extended vacation or simply a quick getaway from home, these top cruise lines offer some of the best options for solo travelers on waterways around the world.

Launched in 2010, Norwegian Epic was the first cruise ship in the industry to feature studio accommodations for solo travelers. Norwegian Cruise Line offers this category on nine of the 19 ships in its fleet, including the newest ship, Norwegian Viva. These cabins, at an average size of 100 square feet, are designed and priced with the solo traveler in mind. They have no single supplements – and studio rooms on board Norwegian Bliss even boast virtual windows.

Guests of the studios get access to the private Studio Lounge. In this exclusive space, you can socialize with other solo travelers and enjoy complimentary refreshments. There are also singles meetups throughout the voyage and plenty of fun-filled onboard activities to mingle with like-minded cruisers. Solo travelers can check out all the fun for singles on Norwegian Viva this winter on a cruise to the Caribbean , or in spring 2024 as the ship sets sail for the Mediterranean .

MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises offers interior and balcony solo cabins for single cruisers on its Meraviglia-class ships: the MSC Meraviglia, Bellissima, Grandiosa, Virtuosa and the newest vessel in the fleet, MSC Euribia. The second-newest ship, MSC World Europa, has 28 cabins – 10 Studio Interior and 18 Studio Ocean View staterooms – designed specifically for solo travelers. MSC World America, set to debut in 2025, will also feature the solo studio staterooms.

During voyages with MSC Cruises , single cruisers are invited to a complimentary, hosted cocktail party to mix and mingle with other solo travelers. The daily program is also an excellent source to discover additional activities, entertainment and opportunities to meet other cruisers. You'll have onboard special events like the themed 70s-inspired Flower Party and the White Party, where the ship is decked out in festive white decor and guests don their best white attire. In addition, there are various sports tournaments, or you can show off your culinary expertise during a MasterChef competition.

MSC's Caribbean and Bahamas cruises departing from Miami and New York City feature an overnight visit to Ocean Cay, the line's private island and marine reserve. While there, singles can participate in fun-filled evening activities like a Champagne Sunset Cruise or a glow paddleboarding excursion in the lagoon, then attend the lively Luna Libre Party and the lighthouse show.

Holland America Line

Three of Holland America Line's newest ships each offer 12 solo cabins to accommodate single travelers: the Pinnacle-class Nieuw Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Konigsdam. These ocean view staterooms range in size from 127 to 172 square feet and feature the same amenities as the double occupancy cabins but with a double bed. The cruise line's Single Staterooms are priced for one person. If a guest chooses to book a different stateroom, single supplements for double occupancy cabins are as much as 100% over the standard fare, depending on the voyage and the cabin category.

Long committed to solo travelers, the line offers many activities where guests can meet other singles such as wine tastings, cocktail mixers, exercise classes, daily quizzes, sports challenges and more. If you're a solo traveler and a member of AARP, Holland America is now the exclusive cruise benefit provider to AARP's members. Solo cruisers will have access to an AARP member-only onboard credit that ranges from $50 to $200, depending on the itinerary and stateroom category.

For itineraries, Holland America's Alaska cruises and cruisetours are perfect for solo travelers, offering many opportunities to connect with fellow cruisers. Another favorite for singles is the line's fall voyages sailing from Boston to Québec City or Montreal.

Royal Caribbean International

Royal Caribbean International features studio staterooms on select ships that range in size from 101 to 199 square feet. These solo accommodations include interior rooms, virtual balcony staterooms and a super studio ocean view stateroom with a balcony. The cabins do not carry the single supplement fee singles encounter when booking other types of staterooms, making them an attractive option when traveling alone.

Once on board the ship, solo cruisers will have countless options to engage and socialize with other travelers. When it comes to dining with Royal Caribbean , make a reservation at the Japanese restaurant Teppanyaki for an entertaining meal with new friends, or join fellow foodies for the intimate Chef's Table experience (the dining venues vary by ship). Singles can also participate in onboard activities like trivia contests, drink seminars, escape rooms, dance classes and pool parties.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

interline cruise fares

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

interline cruise fares

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

interline cruise fares

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

interline cruise fares

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

interline cruise fares

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

interline cruise fares

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

interline cruise fares

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
