Nuna TRVL Dubl and Babyzen YOYO2 Connect

Best Double Travel Strollers of 2024 | Stroller Comparison

If you're on the hunt for the perfect lightweight double stroller, this is the article for you! Whether you're preparing for a vacation, need a stroller to fit Disney regulations, or simply prefer a lighter, more compact stroller for everyday use, one of the strollers on this list is sure to fit your needs. The perfect double travel stroller has been an elusive baby gear item, but as strollers evolve and technology advances, our favorite brands are offering lighter-weight double strollers that are more in tune with the needs of growing families. Without further ado, the best double travel strollers of 2024 are:

What are the best double travel strollers?

Best Double Travel Strollers

  • Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Double Stroller
  • Babyzen YOYO2 Connect 6+ Double Stroller
  • Nuna TRVL dubl
  • Valco Baby Trend Duo Double Stroller
  • Valco Baby Slim Twin Double Stroller
  • UPPAbaby G-Link V2 Double Stroller

Best Double Travel Strollers

Any of these strollers will be suitable for families seeking a compact, lightweight double stroller. However, not all strollers are created equal. Read on to discover which stroller is the best choice for your specific lifestyle needs.

What double stroller is the best for plane travel?  Babyzen YOYO2 Connect 6+ Double Stroller  vs.  UPPAbaby G-Link V2 :

There are three ways to travel with a stroller by airplane:

  • Check your stroller with your luggage.
  • Gate check your stroller when boarding the plane.
  • Board the plane with your stroller and store it in the overhead bin.

Let's consider the three above scenarios.

  • If you check your stroller with your luggage, you surrender your means of transporting your children through the airport. It's wise to keep your stroller with you as long as possible, considering the time you'll spend waiting to board, the possibility of delays, and layovers. Opting to gate check your stroller or board the plane with it are much more efficient choices.
  • Gate checking your stroller entails passing through security with your stroller and maintaining access to use it until you board the plane. As you board the plane you will then fold it down and pass it  over to the flight crew, it will then be stored with luggage on the underside of the plane. This method is very efficient but there is one challenge to consider. Flight crews are notoriously rough on gear. Imagine the nightmare of arriving to your destination to find your stroller damaged or broken! Parents can save themselves this stress by opting for a stroller that fits into a padded, protective, travel bag.
  • Boarding the plane with your stroller is the best way to ensure it remains safe. However, only the smallest strollers will fit into an overhead bin. Parents who prefer to keep their stroller with them should ensure they purchase one that complies with their airline's carry-on regulations.

Our top double stroller pick for gate checking is the  UPPAbaby G-Link V2 . The  UPPAbaby G-Link V2  best fits this scenario because of one specific reason: UPPAbaby offers  a protective travel bag specifically designed to keep the  G-Link V2  safe. The  UPPAbaby G-Link Travel Bag  includes UPPAbaby's TravelSafe program, this program is  essentially travel insurance. If  the G-Link V2  stroller accrues any damage during travel while packed inside the  G-Link Travel Bag , it is covered by  UPPAbaby's TravelSafe program. UPPAbaby offers parents peace of mind while traveling!

UPPAbaby G-Link Travel Bag

Our top pick for overhead bin storage is the Babyzen YOYO2 Connect 6+ Double Stroller . This is actually the only option for parents who wish to board the plane with a double stroller. The YOYO2 Connect 6+ Double Stroller is truly one of a kind! It folds into two separate pieces, each with its own shoulder carry strap, and is guaranteed to fit in overhead bin storage. Babyzen has always been a go-to for traveling families with their original YOYO. With the innovative YOYO2 Connect , families with double stroller needs can also travel light and easy!

Babyzen YOYO2 Connect 6+ Double Stroller

What double travel stroller is best for travel system use?  Babyzen YOYO2 Connect 6+ Double Stroller  vs.  Nuna TRVL dubl :

If you will be traveling with your infant car seat or need a lightweight double stroller for everyday use that can be easily transitioned in and out of the car, it’s important to consider infant car seat compatibility. Only a few of the strollers on our list can be paired with an infant car seat, we’ve narrowed our top choices to the two that provide the smoothest car to stroller experiences.

Babyzen YOYO2 with Connect and Infant Car Seat

The Babyzen YOYO2 Connect 6+ Double Stroller can be paired with one infant car seat. Babyzen offers a versatile adapter compatible with a variety of industry-leading infant car seat brands. This adapter is unique because it can be folded with the stroller, enhancing the user experience and eliminating the risk of losing the adapter.

Nuna TRVL dubl with PIPA infant car seat

The Nuna TRVL dubl can only be paired with Nuna infant car seats. However, the TRVL dubl is the only stroller on our list that offers an adapter-free connection. All Nuna infant car seats are directly compatible with the TRVL dubl by securing on top of the stroller's arm bar. This adapter-free connection is not only convenient but also budget-friendly, as parents do not have to incur extra cost for an adapter. The  TRVL dubl can only hold one infant car seat.

What double travel stroller is best for twins?  Valco Baby Trend Duo Double Stroller :

Valco offers two different style adapters, each uniquely designed to fit one side of the stroller. There are a few car seat options that are compatible with both adapters. While you will need to use two different adapters to fit two infant car seats side by side, you can still pair matching car seats.

In addition to being compatible with double infant car seats, the Trend Duo can also hold two bassinets side by side! It truly is the most versatile lightweight double stroller option for twins!

What double travel stroller is the best for taller toddlers?  Valco Baby Slim Twin :

The  Valco Baby Slim Twin  is the clear winner here,  from the seat to the top of the backrest measures 19 inches, providing 1-2 more inches of backrest support than the rest of the strollers on our list.

UPPAbaby G-Link V2

The  UPPAbaby G-Link V2  is the lightest weight stroller on our list, weighing in at 22.3lbs. The  Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Double  comes in a close second at 23lbs. If infant car seat compatibility is not a concern and a weight takes priority either one  of these options will suffice!

The  YOYO2 Connect 6+ Double Stroller  can be folded in two separate pieces, allowing for a bit more flexibility when packing up a trunk. The  Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Double  is folded in one piece but still achieves an impressively compact folded size.

What double travel stroller offers the best performance and maneuverability?  Nuna TRVL dubl :

Nuna TRVL dubl

The  Nuna TRVL dubl  is the winner in this category as well! First, side-by-side double strollers are easier to maneuver compared to inline double strollers. Second, it provides one handle bar (as opposed to the two on the  UPPAbaby G-Link V2 )- that being said the  TRVL dubl   offers one-hand steering. It also features durable foam filled wheels and four wheel suspension! While it is a light-weight option and parents should  be realistic with their expectations (it is not a hiking stroller!)  it is capable of handling bumpy and uneven sidewalks with ease.

Best Double Strollers of 2024

When you need a stroller for two, the decision is (almost) twice as important., by jen labracio | medically reviewed by holly peretz ot | fact checked by shannon vestal robson.

Pinterest logo.

A double stroller is an investment, but it’s also crucial to getting out when you have two (or more) kids close in age or if you’re having twins .

After countless hours of testing double strollers in the real world and considering feedback from experts and thousands of Babylist parents, we narrowed down the competition to recommend two top picks: the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double Stroller as the best side-by-side double stroller and UPPAbaby’s Vista V2 Stroller as the best tandem double. Which style you’ll prefer will likely come down to a mix of your family’s particular needs + your personal preferences, since side-by-sides and tandems—strollers with front-to-back seating— are both great options. (You can read more on the pros and cons of each later in this guide.)

We also chose five other best-of picks in case you’re looking for something more specific, like a double stroller for twins or a double jogger.

Why Trust Babylist?

Babylist is the expert in baby; we know baby gear inside and out. We talk with parents face-to-face in our showroom and on our user panels and hear from thousands annually via our Best Baby Products survey. We know what items millions of expecting parents are adding to their baby registries.

I’ve tested dozens of double strollers over the years both in my roles as Babylist’s gear editor and as a mom to two young boys. I drew from both of those experiences as I made this best-of list. I analyzed double stroller feedback from thousands of Babylist parents via our annual Best Baby Products survey of over 6,000 users and talked to parents at Babylist for their input.

I also spoke with several experts. Lois Kaye Lee, MD MPH FAAP, American Academy of Pediatrics Chairperson of Executive Committee, and Courtney English , a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, talked to me about double stroller safety. Tatyanna Hunter Jones is a Babylist Showroom Registry Consultant and part of a trained team of experts who work at Babylist Beverly Hills . She interacts with parents-to-be daily, answering questions about baby gear and helping them build their baby registries.

Best Double Strollers of 2024

Best Side-By-Side Double Stroller Overall

Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double Stroller - Jet - $719.99.

Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double Stroller - Jet

  • Quick, easy fold
  • Easy to push and maneuver even at maximum weight (two 50-lb children)
  • Can handle all types of terrain, including snow and ice
  • Limited accessories available (no snack tray, weather protection or parent console)
  • Only fits one infant car seat (won’t work for twins under 6 months old)
  • Not compatible with Nuna or Chicco infant car seats

Babylist parents love Baby Jogger strollers for their quick, easy one-handed folds. (The brand’s single GT2 holds the top spot in our Best Strollers guide.) This double version is just as easy to break down as the single stroller—extra praiseworthy considering it’s twice the size.

“This stroller folds up in one step! Can you ask for anything better?!” said one Babylist mom, and I couldn’t agree more.

Maneuverability-wise, the GT2 Double is very easy to push and steer, even with two kids on board. (This is a big reason why many parents choose a side-by-side double stroller. Tandem doubles have their pros, but maneuverability generally isn’t one of them—side-by-side doubles are easier to manage than tandems.)

Another big perk of this stroller is size. The GT2 is fairly narrow and fits through standard-sized doorways (interior doorways in the US are usually around 32” wide, while exterior doorways measure 36”), which isn’t the case with all doubles and can be extra helpful if you’re a city family navigating tighter spaces . I also love that each seat and canopy operates independently in case one kiddo wants to chill while the other wants to see the world.

The GT2 Double isn’t ideal for twins since it only accepts one infant car seat. (There used to be a bassinet add-on option, but the brand has unfortunately discontinued it.) And speaking of car seats, many parents complain that the stroller isn’t compatible with Nuna or Chicco car seats, two popular brands, which is something to keep in mind. There’s also no snack tray or parent console available, which is frustrating if you have kids who like to snack on the go or like to stash your phone or a drink in your stroller.

Real Parent Reviews

“I have had my GT2 for three years now. It still looks brand new, despite using it 3-5 times a week. My 5yo still fits in it! I can’t say enough about the easy fold-up, how simple it is to get in and out of our car, the rubber tires make pushing on gravel a dream, and the HANDBRAKE is something I never thought I would use as much as I do. I haven’t found a door that the double GT won’t fit through. And the side-by-side seats make it easy for my older children to climb in and out of effortlessly. The Double GT is worth every.single.penny. I wouldn’t hesitate to click “buy” again. City Mini truly makes the best strollers I have ever used.” — Ambernehne

“I got this stroller and overall like the ease of pushing it and getting it out and up from my car. The thing I dislike the most is that if you’re going to make a stroller for two kids you should have someplace to put a snack or drink for one if not both.” — Stace

Additional Specs

Best convertible stroller overall.

UPPAbaby Vista V2 Stroller - Jake - $999.99.

UPPAbaby Vista V2 Stroller - Jake

  • Can hold up to 3 kids (with attachments; sold separately)
  • All-wheel suspension + lots of storage
  • 30% of Babylist parents voted for this as their favorite stroller
  • Harder to push and steer with 2+ kids

Some parents prefer a tandem double stroller (also called an in-line or front-to-back stroller) because of the more streamlined design, making it easier to maneuver through crowds and doorways than a side-by-side. If that’s you, the Vista V2 should be your go-to. You won’t find another tandem with the same quality, durability or convenience features.

The Vista is a convertible stroller, which means it converts from a single to a double with the addition of a second seat.

“If you know for sure you want to expand your family soon, then a convertible stroller might be the right choice for you,” says Hunter Jones. It’s one of the most popular strollers used (and loved) by Babylist parents; almost 30% of the 6,000+ Babylist users who completed our Best Baby Products survey voted the Vista V2 as their favorite, describing the quality as “unmatched,” and many telling us it was the best product they added to their entire baby registry.

The Vista is built to accommodate up to three kids with the addition of the Rumble Seat and Ride-Along Board . It’s twin-friendly, as it works with two bassinets, two car seats or two toddler seats at the same time. It’s pricey, but it comes with a lot: a bassinet, a rain/bug shield, more than ample storage space in the basket for up to 30 pounds of stuff and a toddler seat for kids up to 50 pounds. It’s beautifully designed and boasts an impressive suspension system for a smooth ride, even over uneven surfaces. And it’s sturdy enough to withstand years of use with multiple kids. “The Vista is my go-to ride for both my kids,” Babylist parent Michela said. “I’ve used the bassinet, car seat, main seat and the Rumbleseat over the years. Wheels tackle anything and it glides so smooth.”

Like any tandem double, the biggest con is steering—the Vista can feel unwieldy to push and turn when it’s loaded up with two kids, which I think is the stroller’s biggest fault. It’s especially tough to steer if there’s a toddler in the bottom seat because of how front-heavy the stroller feels. It’s also not the easiest to break down in double mode.

“Ideal stroller for our twins. They did all their sleeping right in the bassinet (one was included with the Vista, had to buy another one). SUPER easy to click them both into the stroller and be on our way. Our nanny was super appreciative of the ease of use as well so she was always out and about with the twins. Overall extremely happy!” — Bob

“Bought it for our first baby. We found a deal where they discontinued our color and they put them on sale for 20% off…We loved the possibility of extending it for up to 3 children. The bassinet is great for the first few months — we used it till she was about 4 months old, [but] could have possibly used it a little longer. The stroller is HUGE and HEAVY. It fills our trunk completely (Ford Edge). It is especially a lot when you have to take the bassinet off to collapse the stroller or reposition the toddler seat to collapse it with the seat.” — Sandra W.

Best Affordable Double Stroller

Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller 2.0 - Sea/Watercolor Canopy With Penny Leather - $450.00.

Mockingbird Single-to-Double Stroller 2.0 - Sea/Watercolor Canopy With Penny Leather

  • Luxury features at an affordable price
  • 22+ different seat configurations, including bassinet, riding board (sold separately) and 2 infant car seats at once
  • Compatible with 10+ different infant car seat brands (adapters sold separately)
  • Can be tough to maneuver as weight increases (especially with 2 kids)
  • Not great for rougher terrain
  • All seats and attachments need to be removed to get a compact fold

Direct-to-consumer brand Mockingbird skips the retail markups so they can offer a luxury convertible stroller for a lot less than many competitors. “Looks and feels high-end for a reasonable price” and “best bang for the buck” are just some of the feedback Babylist parents gave us when we asked about the Mockingbird in our Best Baby Products survey. They also called out all the different features, highlighted the importance of the ride-along board for families with 3+ kids and loved the brand’s lifetime warranty.

The Mockingbird costs less than half of what you’ll pay for a Vista. Both seats are the same size and can be switched to either forward- or parent-facing. You can also use it from birth with the addition of a car seat (it’s compatible with almost every brand—just remember you’ll need adapters), or add the Mockingbird Bassinet , Infant Seat Stroller Insert or Riding Board , for a total of 22+ configurations.

Some parents told us that their overall impression of the Mockingbird was that it wasn’t quite as sturdy and didn’t offer as smooth of a ride as the Vista. I agree somewhat with that feedback, but I think the updated suspension in the 2.0 version goes a long way in improving how the stroller handles. (And considering the price tag, that’s a really big deal.) If you’re taller, you may sometimes kick the crossbar between the stroller’s back wheels. (I did, and I’m 5’10”, but other tall folks I spoke with haven’t had this experience.) And, like the Vista—and all tandems—it’s not effortless to push in double mode with two larger kids.

“At first I wasn’t sure I was going to like this stroller. It is pretty heavy and you have to take off the 2nd seat for it to fit in your car. It takes some time to load/unload and put together. But that being said, it’s a great stroller. It is heavy-duty, it just feels like great quality. The basket is huge for a lot of storage, the canopies are large and I love the blue color I ordered. It is easy to remove and rearrange the seats however you need them to be. The infant insert is really nice, I love not having to carry around the car seat with us. I love that the stroller is easy to fold and locks into place for easy maneuvering into your trunk. It takes some time to get used to how it works and how it is easiest to fit into your car with two seats, but now that I have it down I love it!” — Samantha A.

“I had higher hopes for this stroller, and maybe my hopes were too high. Best parts first: I love the extended canopies that allow for total sun coverage of my babies’/kids’ faces. I love that it fits in the back of our car (an Ascent with the 3rd-row seat in use). It does have to have all seats removed but it fits which is a big win (the BOB double does not—and our biggest reason for purchasing this stroller). The buckles are easy…The seat cover also seems to be easy to remove for cleaning. The less than great [stuff]: I was really surprised that as this is the updated one that it is still kind of wobbly (almost to the degree of my old double umbrella kinderwagon). Unsure the best way to describe it but with two children (a 12 lb 4-month-old and a 22-lb 2-year-old) with the double seat configurations the side-to-side motion of the frame is quite noticeable at times. Not to the point of it feeling unsafe, but surprising. This is also a sidewalk /in-store-only stroller. There is no grass, gravel, etc use happening with any child configuration in my personal opinion.” — Michelle R.

Best Double Stroller for Travel

Zoe The Twinᵛ² - $529.00.

Zoe The Twinᵛ²

  • Slim frame while still feeling roomy and comfortable (fits Disney size requirements)
  • Easily converts to a triple or quadruple stroller with additional seats
  • Huge sunshade and storage basket
  • Doesn’t roll well on uneven ground or rougher terrain
  • Can’t use from birth (doesn’t accept car seats or bassinets)
  • Fold isn’t compact

One of the first things I noticed when testing out Zoe’s Twin stroller was how easy it was to open, close and get in and out of my trunk. Maneuverability in general is so easy with this double stroller, and that makes it ideal for travel with two+ kids or for those times when you don’t want or need a full-size double stroller.

I was able to open and close the stroller in seconds thanks to the one-handed fold. (And I didn’t even have to crack the instruction manual to learn how!) I also appreciate that it comes with a child snack holder and parent cup holder right out of the box. At only 19 pounds and 29 inches wide, it fits through standard doorways easily and is Disney-approved . There’s even an option to turn it into a stroller for three (or four!) by adding a triple or a quad seat, something you don’t see often with any type of stroller, but especially in a travel stroller.

If you need a double that can tackle off-road terrain or bumpy sidewalks, I wouldn’t recommend this one; it shines on smooth surfaces but doesn’t handle well on rougher surfaces like cobblestone streets or especially uneven city sidewalks. It also doesn’t accept car seats or bassinets (and doesn’t recline flat), so it’s not a good choice for newborns.

“We got this double stroller to use for traveling since it’s lightweight and our other double stroller is too bulky to take with us. I love the large canopies and the seats seem really comfortable. I like that I can lay them all the way down if my toddlers need to take a nap while we’re out and about. They seem to like sitting next to each other (as opposed to tandem) and ask to ride in this one when we take walks around the neighborhood. The only thing I wish is that the wheels were a tiny bit bigger and better able to navigate pumps and cracks, otherwise it’s pretty smooth!” — B

“This stroller is everything! It is lightweight, allowing me to easily get it out of the SUV, glides so smoothly across the ground and folds practically flat! Hands down the best stroller we’ve owned!” — Amy

Best Stroller Wagon

Evenflo Pivot Xplore All-Terrain Stroller Wagon - Adventurer - $349.99.

Evenflo Pivot Xplore All-Terrain Stroller Wagon - Adventurer

  • Stroller + wagon combo; works for both pushing and pulling
  • Open seats give kids a 360-degree view and more freedom to move, plus face each other
  • Rides smoothly on all types of terrain, including sand
  • Can only accommodate 1 car seat at a time, and only works with Evenflo infant car seats
  • Shared footwell is small and flimsy; may be a tight fit for two bigger kids
  • Handlebar only has 3 height settings, and could feel too low for taller parents

Are you thinking, “This isn’t a double stroller?” Technically, you’re correct. But wait! The Pivot Xplore is a wagon + stroller hybrid and a super fun way to transport two kids when you’re on the go. Stroller wagons are a great alternative for pushing around multiple little ones, especially when on adventures like the beach or park, and I always recommend parents consider them in their research.

With one quick flip of the handle, the Xplore transforms from a wagon into a stroller suitable for kids from six months up to five years old. (You can get even more versatility by adding in a toddler seat and a car seat adapter , sold separately.) It pushes and turns very similarly to a traditional stroller, something many stroller wagons struggle with. It also features a telescoping handle to accommodate caregivers of different heights. While the all-terrain wheels can handle many types of surfaces, like bumpy sidewalks or short stretches of sandy or gravel paths, I do find it shines on smoother ones; for a more rugged option (but also more expensive), check out the Veer All-Terrain Cruiser Wagon .

“We used the stroller/wagon on paved, graveled and small stretches of bumpy surfaces and all were fine to handle. The wagon does great with single or double use. Depending on the surface of the ground I do recommend having a single rider sit above the bigger wheels for easier handling. I do love that this stroller/wagon has the option of additional attachments to even cater to an infants’ sitting needs within the first year and still accommodate the older sibling down below. If I could change/wish for a few things, I would wish for a more compact fold as it appears still a little on the bulky side while it is folded down, it would also be nice if it had the ability to stand up on its own while folded…It definitely seems heavier than any of my strollers, but that was to be expected, as it appears more rugged, too.” — Lisa

“My 17-month-old twin daughters have been loving this wagon as soon as they could sit up! It makes going on walks so fun and easy, even when the terrain is a little bit bumpy. The large wheels hop down curbs easily, and the adjustable handle makes the wagon easy to maneuver. The sunshades are especially helpful for when it gets a little bit bright or breezy, and the detachable basket is great for holding the diaper bag when I don’t want to! We love this wagon and will continue to use it regularly as long as our kids will fit in it!” — Jenna

Best Double Jogging Stroller

Thule Urban Glide 3 Double - Black - $849.95.

Thule Urban Glide 3 Double - Black

  • Top-rated suspension + maneuverability = perfect for jogging
  • Twist hand brake for faster, safer stopping
  • Lots of storage space + zip-top basket
  • Only works with 1 car seat/bassinet attachment at a time
  • Seats are shallow and don’t sit fully upright
  • Frame scratches easily

I’d never describe a double jogging stroller as small, but the Thule Urban Glide 3 Double is one of the sleeker around. It’s just as great whether you’re an avid runner logging multiple miles a week or someone who walks a lot over uneven terrain. It can even work for urban environments, assuming you have space to store it.

The Urban Glide is long front to back, but ergonomically it’s comfortable to push while jogging and easy to steer. You’ll immediately notice the huge shocks on this stroller’s frame. Those combined with the large rear wheels make for an incredibly smooth ride both on and off-road. The twist break is comfortably positioned and easy to operate and control, even downhill. Improvements to the V3 model include a built-in legrest (a really nice feature for kid comfort), bigger, full-coverage canopies and an even larger storage basket.

The fold on this stroller is intuitive, but know that it’s big and bulky when folded. It weighs over 35 pounds, which is comparable to other double joggers but much heavier than an average double. (This isn’t the stroller I’d choose if I were also planning on using it day-to-day and had to load it in and out of my car regularly.) It’s also important to know that the tires are air-filled. While this is great from a suspension standpoint, it means they can pop or deflate over time.

The Urban Glide 3 Double is compatible with infant car seats from many major brands, and can be paired with a bassinet . (But it can only hold one car seat or bassinet, so it’s not twin-friendly.) And remember that it’s not safe to jog with your baby until they have good head and neck control, usually around six to nine months of age.

“I purchased this stroller over a month ago and it’s the best investment I’ve made when it comes to children’s equipment. I have very tall/large children, thus I need a well-built stroller that can handle a lot of weight and accommodate taller kids, all while providing an enjoyable ride for mom/dad and kids. We use this as an everyday stroller and a jogging stroller and it works great. My only caution is that this is a bulky stroller but it’s more lightweight and easier to collapse/move compared to its competitors. This will not fit in every car, it does require an oversized trunk.” — Momof3under5

“This stroller is awesome. I did some research on almost all brands and came down to this from previous reviews and I am so glad I did…I used it on snow and it pushed so nicely, hopefully [it] does the same with sand (haven’t used it yet on sand). It’s pretty easy to fold and it stands up. I did watch a few review videos and some people complained about folding it and putting it in your car, taking the wheels off, but I have not had to do that yet—this stroller has gone in the back of a pickup truck and Escape and fits fine with wheels on…I have a 3.5-year-old and 11 month old and both sit comfortably in it. I actually prefer this stroller over a wagon.” — Alex K.

Best Double Stroller for Twins

Bugaboo Donkey5 Mono Complete Stroller - Stormy Blue - $1,499.00.

Bugaboo Donkey5 Mono Complete Stroller - Stormy Blue

  • Best overall double for suspension and maneuverability
  • 8 different configurations with included attachments (30 configurations with attachments sold separately)
  • Easily converts from single to double stroller and back again
  • Very pricey
  • Requires additional attachments (sold separately) to use for twins
  • Fold isn’t intuitive

Not all double strollers are created equally, especially for twins. If you’re shopping for a twin stroller, you’ll want to make sure it accommodates two bassinets and/or two infant car seats simultaneously. You should also be conscious of storage, maneuverability and the stroller’s width. Bugaboo’s Donkey5 gets an A++ in all of these categories. It’s one of the narrowest side-by-side doubles on the market, so fitting through standard doorways and other crowded spaces won’t be an issue. I’m amazed by how well it handles every time I push it, even with two kids in tow—no other side-by-side double compares. There’s an incredible suspension system for a smooth ride even over bumpy terrain (it can even curb hop!) and an adjustable handlebar for strollers of different heights. It even turns easily, making you (almost) forget you’re hauling around twice the weight as many parents.

The elephant in the room is this stroller’s price tag, especially once you start adding on twin must-haves like the Duo Extension Set and the twin bassinet . But if your double stroller is your main mode of transportation each day, I do think it’s worth the high price tag if you can swing it. Check out the Valco Trend Duo for a more affordable (and still very much loved) twin option.

PS—you don’t have to use this stroller just for twins. It works just as well for kids of different ages, too.

“I’m a mother of two little ones and I’ve had a slew of different strollers in trying to find our perfect fit for our family’s needs. This is HANDS DOWN the best one. I had the double stroller from UppaBaby and I sold it to get this one and couldn’t be happier that I did. It’s more compact, the seats are more comfortable (they’re the same size) there are a multitude more configurations that you can do with it and it’s even adjustable when you’re with one or two kids. My two-year-old used to hate to go in the stroller with her baby brother…she was far away from me up front and didn’t fit in the tiny extra seat. Now they’re comfortably side by side, close to me and she loves it! I never write reviews, but this has changed our lives and I wanted to share the experience. STRONGLY recommend this product.” — Morgan D

“We have two boys that are 18 months apart and I really wanted a stroller that I could have them side by side, and this seemed like the best (and best looking) option. Things we love: the look of it…feels and looks high end in my opinion, very smooth ride, never really had a problem getting through doors (in the USA at least) since it’s only as wide as a wheelchair, it collapses fairly well width-wise. Things that aren’t my favorite: it is a little bit of a pain to get in and out of my car, so many pieces and it doesn’t collapse as compactly as other double strollers, it takes up the entire trunk of my Audi Q5, I’m hoping this will be less of a problem when we no longer need the bassinet seat.” — Miriam

How We Chose Our Best Strollers

We analyzed results from Babylist’s Best Baby Products survey, which polled 6,000 Babylist users and asked them to share the baby products they love the most and why.

We utilized insight from the Babylist editorial team, including me, Gear Editor Jen LaBracio, an expert in the baby space for over six years and a mom of two who has written hundreds of baby gear guides and personally researched and tested hundreds of baby products, including many double strollers.

We spoke to Lois Kaye Lee, MD MPH FAAP, American Academy of Pediatrics Chairperson of Executive Committee and Courtney English, a Pediatric Occupational Therapist.

We also talked with Tatyanna Hunter Jones, a Babylist Showroom Registry Consultant at the Beverly Hills showroom.

We read customer reviews from hundreds of Babylist users and spoke to parents on our Babylist staff about their real-life product experiences.

Types of Double Strollers

There are three types of double strollers: side-by-side, tandem and convertible. Each option has pros and cons, and choosing the one that’s best for your family will depend on your lifestyle, needs and preferences.

Side-by-side double strollers

Side-by-side double strollers have seats that are positioned next to each other.

Seats have same amount of space between them

Seats have same amenities (recline, cup holders etc.)

Usually easier to fold and turn

Easier for children to interact

Most accommodate twins

Hard to get through narrow spaces

Tough to steer through crowds

Easier for kids to bug each other

Tandem double strollers

Also called in-line strollers, tandem strollers are single-file seats with one seat in front of the other. The two seats can be the same height, but tandems often have “stadium seating” with the back seat raised higher than the front for better viewing.

Fit more easily through narrow doors and aisles

Fold more compactly

More configurations

Seats don’t have same amenities (one may recline more, have more/less leg room etc.)

Harder to maneuver, especially when turning

Long, front-heavy

There’s no “best” type of double stroller. For some families, a side-by-side may be the best choice, while for others, a tandem or a convertible makes the most sense. The most important thing is to think about your needs and personal preferences.

What about stroller wagons?

The stroller wagon —a stroller + wagon hybrid with the push and maneuverability of a stroller combined with the fun and functionality of a wagon—has gained popularity over the last few years. Stroller wagons can handle a variety of different terrains, hold anywhere from two to four children of different ages and come with lots of accessories. They’re also, simply put, pretty fun. But there are a few things you need to think through if you’re considering one in place of a double stroller.

Stroller wagons feature both pull and push functionality, but even the highest-end ones aren’t as easy to maneuver as a traditional double stroller. They’re also bulky, very heavy and often tricky to break down. If you’re looking for something to use for walks around the neighborhood or quick trips to the park, then a stroller wagon can be a solid choice. But they’re not ideal for consistent, everyday use, if you’re trying to navigate city streets or tight spaces or if you’re getting in and out of a car all day.

Not all stroller wagons accommodate infants, and the ones that do require separate (and often brand-specific) infant car seats and adapters. If you need to transport an infant and a toddler, you’ll need to be sure the stroller wagon you choose can accomplish that.

How to Choose the Best Double Stroller

While it’s sometimes possible to skip the double stroller and use a single stroller with a ride-along board or a baby carrier instead, most parents with multiple kids close in age do choose to purchase a double stroller.

“I cannot live without my double jogger,” says Amanda, a Babylist team member. “It makes it so easy to get out for neighborhood walks with my two kids —and going on walks saves my sanity as a mom.”

Briana, an editor on the Babylist team, agreed. “Having a double stroller was essential to getting out of the house with my two kids,” she stressed. “They each have a place to sit when they're tired of walking, or when I need them safely contained (like in a crowd or parking lot), and it helped us lug around all of the things we needed while out with them. Even now that my oldest is phasing out of the stroller, we're thankful for our ride on board!”

We often hear from parents expressing confusion about the type of double stroller to choose and the features they should be prioritizing. These are the factors to consider and the questions you should be asking yourself.

Size and maneuverability

Double strollers aren’t known for being compact—but some are smaller and more streamlined than others. Consider how you’ll use your double stroller and where you’ll be storing it. Do you need a double that fits through narrow doorways? Will you keep it in your car, an apartment, a mudroom or in a garage? Will you need to lift the stroller often, or break it down for storage? You’ll want an answer to all of these questions before you make your decision.

You should also think through maneuverability. A city family in an elevator building using a stroller day in and day out needs a double that’s easy to steer and push, whereas a family who plans to use a double more infrequently (or in a different living environment) doesn’t need to be as focused on maneuverability.

Things like stroller configuration, modular seating, fabric, canopy size, basket storage, an adjustable handlebar, reclining seats, cupholders and suspension are just some of the things to consider as you shop. Also think about configuration. Do you need a double stroller that accommodates infant car seats or bassinets—and if so, how many, and in what setups? Don’t forget about a stroller’s maximum weight limits, both for each seat individually and for the stroller overall.

“Stroller weight limits are based on the manufacturer’s design and how the stroller is tested for safety and use,” says Lee. “Parents should follow the weight limit to avoid any injuries related to breakage of parts or failure of the brakes.”

“Strollers should have a five-point harness system and brakes that are easy to use,” stresses Lee. If you’ll be using an infant car seat with your double stroller, remember the two-hour rule: limit car seat use to no more than two hours in a 24-hour period. “This is because research shows that when a baby is positioned in a semi-upright position for longer durations, it can restrict airflow to baby's lungs resulting in breathing issues,” says English.

Oftentimes, younger babies especially will fall asleep in a stroller. While this isn’t a safe place for routine sleep, says Lee, it’s okay as long as you move them as soon as possible. “When you reach your destination, it’s best to move baby to a crib, bassinet or portable playard to finish napping,” she says. If you’re using a bassinet with your double stroller, be sure it allows baby to lie flat while sleeping and that the space is “free of blankets or other soft objects which might cover their face and obstruct their breathing.”

If you’re planning to add a stroller board to your double stroller, be sure it’s approved for use by the stroller’s manufacturer and that it’s sturdy and secure. “Parents should have extra caution when their toddler is on a ride-on board to make sure the child is positioned appropriately and doesn’t fall off,” says Lee.

Double strollers are an investment. While pricier strollers tend to have more features like higher-end fabrics, modular seats and better suspension, many affordable doubles are still high-quality. Consider how often and for how many years you’ll be using your double stroller and what features are important to you (and what you think you can skip) when setting your budget.

The Best Jogging Strollers

Jenni Gritters

By Jenni Gritters and Katharine Gammon

Designed to provide a smooth, cushy ride at higher speeds and on uneven terrain, jogging strollers are preferred by runners as well as by caregivers who simply appreciate how easy they are to push and maneuver in everyday use.

After testing 18 models, we found that the Thule Urban Glide 3 is the best jogging stroller for people who are traversing mostly paved terrain (though this model can also handle the occasional off-road detour).

If you’re looking for a slightly narrower jogging stroller, with rugged wheels designed to handle off-road terrain, you may prefer the BOB Gear Wayfinder , our also-great pick.

Everything we recommend

jogger travel system double stroller

Thule Urban Glide 3

The best jogging stroller.

It’s a pleasure to push this stroller on pavement. And due to its light weight, this model is easy to maneuver and convenient for day-to-day use.

Buying Options

jogger travel system double stroller

BOB Gear Wayfinder

Better for rougher terrain.

This narrower, more-streamlined jogging stroller has rugged wheels that can handle more types of terrain well. But it’s heavier than our top pick, with a more-complicated harness.

Budget pick

jogger travel system double stroller

Chicco Activ3 Jogging Stroller

The best cheaper option.

The Activ3 offers adjustable suspension and a fairly comfortable ride at a significantly lower price than our other picks. But the total weight limit is lower, its storage basket is smaller, and there’s no hand brake.

What to consider

Some jogging strollers do best on pavement, while others are made for rougher, dirt terrain.

If you’re a competitive runner, you’ll likely want a jogging stroller to match. Casual joggers may be happy with a simple, cheaper model.

High-quality running strollers can often be found used through local online marketplaces.

Depending on your lifestyle, a jogging stroller might easily double as your everyday stroller.

The Thule Urban Glide 3 is lighter than almost all of the other jogging strollers we tested. Combined with its high-quality construction and excellent maneuverability and suspension, this stroller is the most satisfying to push on paved roads. And the Urban Glide 3 has more padding and adjustability in the harness than other models we looked at. It also has a unique curved-handlebar design that works well for people of all heights. Because the Urban Glide 3 has sleeker wheels, it’s best used for jogging on pavement, but it can handle a shorter off-road excursion just fine.

If you want a stroller that handles off-road treks better than any other model we’ve tried, the BOB Gear Wayfinder is for you. It’s similar in height to the Thule Urban Glide 3. But the Wayfinder is about 2 inches narrower, so it’s easier to pack into a trunk or squeeze down the aisle of a grocery store. It also has a superior, bicycle-style hand brake. Because they have more heavily treaded tires and a more robust suspension system, BOB Gear strollers handle better than Thule strollers on gravel and dirt. However, the Wayfinder is heavier than the Thule Urban Glide 3 (by a little over 5 pounds), and its harness is harder to buckle and tighten. The Wayfinder also has a smaller basket and fewer easy-to-access storage pockets. So if you run on dirt paths only occasionally, the tradeoffs may not be worth it.

The Chicco Activ3 Jogging Stroller doesn’t offer the high-quality construction and excellent maneuverability and suspension of the Thule Urban Glide 3, nor does it provide the off-road-ready tires of the BOB Gear Wayfinder. But we liked this stroller more than other lower-cost models we’ve tested. The Activ3 stroller has a comfortable seat that reclines flatter than those of our other picks (so it’s the best for on-the-go naps). And it has adjustable handlebars, a front wheel lock, and adjustable suspension (a potentially helpful feature that our other picks don’t have).

The research

Our picks at a glance, why you should trust us, who this is for, how we picked and tested, our pick: thule urban glide, also great: bob gear wayfinder, budget pick: chicco activ3, other good jogging strollers, safety, care, and maintenance, the competition.

In researching safety, we reviewed the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), as well as guidelines from the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA). We searched the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission database to look for recalls.

We interviewed medical and running experts about exercising with a stroller. To learn which features people value most in jogging strollers, we surveyed parents who run with their children, and we visited baby-gear stores to see which models they recommend. We also convened a small panel of running parents, to discuss what they look for in strollers that can go the distance.

Jogging strollers can be an indispensable tool to help people stay fit without having to hire a babysitter. They’re also just a really fun way to bring a child along for the ride. And they are potentially great for non-running caregivers who simply want a sturdier, smoother stroller.

Although some full-size strollers may resemble jogging models, with their nimble, three-wheeled design, they usually lack the key features (a fixed or locking front wheel, robust suspension, and bigger, fatter tires) that make a stroller safe and comfortable to use for running, especially at higher speeds or over hilly or uneven terrain.

Note that while many jogging strollers are designed to be used from a child’s birth and are compatible with infant car seats , they should not be used for running until a baby has full head and neck control, which typically is around 6 to 8 months of age. For more on how and when to run with a baby, read the article When Is It Safe to Start Jogging With a Baby?

The six jogging strollers that were tested for this guide, sitting side by side on a grassy lawn.

Based on our research, we determined that a good jogging stroller should be:

Safe: We preferred models with a five-point harness, securely attached wheels, and a handlebar strap to prevent the stroller from getting away on downhills.

Easy to handle and brake: Adjustable tracking on the front wheel ensures that the stroller steers straight over time, while tires with more tread can better grip rocky or uneven surfaces. We consider handlebar-mounted hand brakes optional, especially if you’re running mostly on flat ground.

Comfortable and convenient for the adult: Better jogging strollers often have an adjustable handlebar to accommodate runners of different heights and help maintain good running form. “You should never bend down to reach the handlebars,” said physical therapist Marianne Ryan, who wrote the book Baby Bod , about exercising after having a child. “If anything, you should reach up or keep your arms at a 90-degree angle when running with a stroller.”

Our three picks for best jogging stroller, shown side by side, in front of a blue background.

Comfortable for the kid: Good suspension (including springs and shock absorbers) helps cushion your little rider, and adjustable suspension can account for weight differences as a child grows or for smooth roads versus bumpy trails. Many jogging strollers have air-filled tires, which provide some additional suspension and a smoother ride.

Versatile: We looked for models with a swivel-locking front wheel. You want a locked wheel for running, since that stability enables you to run straight at higher speeds; a swiveling wheel is easier to turn and better for everyday use. We also liked models that were compatible with infant car seats and that had a high weight capacity and height limit (since they can be used for longer).

Made of quality materials: Higher-priced strollers have noticeably better materials and construction, and they seem easier and more pleasant to push over long distances. We also prefer strollers with fabrics that stay looking new for longer, with the help of supplies that parents are likely to have on hand, like damp paper towels or baby wipes (for bigger jobs, see our advice on how to clean a stroller ).

A jogging stroller, folded up and packed into the trunk of a hatchback car.

We’ve researched over 36 jogging strollers and tested more than a dozen. We timed the assembly of each stroller, noting any particular frustrations or extra tools needed. For each model, we considered how easy it was to fold, pick up, store in a small space, and put in a car trunk.

Both writers took the strollers for 3- to 5-mile runs and long walks on a variety of surfaces (including pavement, dirt, grass, gravel, and bumpy, broken concrete), noting how the suspension and wheels performed. They ran with their kids (ranging from 9 months to 4 years old), evaluating how each stroller’s straps and seat fit and how content the kids were to stay in the seat. And guide writers’ husbands also gave feedback on running with the strollers.

Our pick for best jogging stroller overall, the Thule Urban Glide 2.

Out of all the jogging strollers we tested, the Thule Urban Glide has the most qualities to love and the fewest downsides. (We recently tested the newest version of this stroller, the Urban Glide 3, which has some improvements but overall is not much different from the previous version, which has long been our top pick.) At about 26 pounds, the Urban Glide 3 is light (about 5 pounds less than the BOB Gear Wayfinder ), so it’s more nimble and maneuverable than other models. And it has all of the features we looked for: a swivel-locking front wheel, a hand brake, a foot brake, and a quality suspension system of durable shocks and springs.

The Urban Glide 3 is expensive, but it’s more convenient to use than bulkier models, and it offers a noticeably high-quality build and materials. Also, it can be used for kids from birth up to 49 pounds—so it’s a good value for people who want to jog with a child and run errands with the same stroller. (The Urban Glide 3 can hold up to 75 total pounds, but anything beyond 49 pounds should be in the storage basket below the seat.) This model is also very easy to resell once you’ve finished using it. The only place where you might not want to run with the Urban Glide 3 is on trails; it handles short, bumpy stints just fine, and it works well for trail walking, but it isn’t meant for long-distance trail running.

A close-up of the storage basket underneath the Thule Urban Glide 2 stroller.

The Urban Glide is fast and agile. This stroller lives up to its name. It glides effortlessly on pavement, and it feels faster and more agile than any other model we looked at. We never detected shaking, wiggling, or lateral movement, and over four years of regular running and walking with this stroller on bumpy, muddy, and snowy terrain, we’ve never had an issue with loosened screws or flat tires.

It’s also lightweight, with adjustable tracking. The Urban Glide is one of the lightest jogging strollers we’ve tested, and it starts and stops with less effort than heavier models. The front wheel has adjustable tracking, allowing for a mostly straight ride when the wheel is locked. (If you find that you’re veering off to the side, you can stop and adjust the tracking wheel, which is located above the front tire.)

The helpfully shaped handlebar and hand brake work for people of all heights. The foam-covered, adjustable handlebar curves inward; we found this helps get a runner’s body into good biomechanical position, allowing hands to remain comfortably neutral. (The other strollers we tested have U-shaped handlebars.) A 6-foot-3 male runner and a 5-foot-3 female runner were both able to adjust this stroller’s handlebar and use it comfortably.

But some people may not like the design of the swivel-style brake. To use the hand brake, you swivel the column integrated into the handlebar. This system was fairly intuitive, and we got used to it. Overall, however, we prefer bicycle-style hand brakes—like those on the BOB Gear Wayfinder —simply because the squeeze-style brake is easier to engage when you’re moving quickly. The Urban Glide’s swivel column requires you to curl your wrist back in a slightly awkward position, which can be tough to hold mid-run.

The harness is soft and easily adjustable. All of the strollers we tested have a five-point safety harness. And the Urban Glide 3 also has a padded, adjustable crotch strap, which will ensure your kid is properly secured no matter their height.

You can adjust the shoulder height on the Urban Glide 3’s harness without rethreading it through the stroller. That makes it easier to switch between kids of different ages, or if a kid is wearing a jacket one day and not the next. This stroller’s harness straps are half an inch wider than the competition’s straps. And the Urban Glide 3 is one of the only models we looked at that had padding on the crotch strap as well as wide, padded inserts on the sides of the waist belt (making the ride more comfy for kids when you’re going downhill or stopping suddenly).

A very relaxed child sitting comfortably in the seat of the Thule Urban Glide Two jogging stroller.

Of those in our test group, this stroller has the second highest upright positioning. Though no jogging stroller’s seat adjusts completely upright, the Urban Glide 3 has the second highest upright positioning, behind the BOB Gear Wayfinder. The Urban Glide 3 reclines to nearly flat (which is convenient for napping), but the Wayfinder does not.

As with our other picks, the Urban Glide 3’s strap-operated mechanism allows the seat to be positioned at any angle in the range. The leg rests are padded and can be raised slightly to give shorter or taller kids a more ergonomic ride. (Jenni found that it didn’t matter much for her daughter’s comfort; because the seat is reclined, you don’t need foot support in the same way as you would for an upright ride.)

The Urban Glide 3 has a larger canopy, and a sandal-friendly foot brake . Thule redesigned the canopy on its newest version to make it a few inches longer than that of the Urban Glide 2, a small difference that may be helpful on very sunny days, but it’s also bulkier than the canopy on the previous versions and is tougher to pack down, even compared to the Wayfinder. (We found that it would spring outward while we were running, and we had to keep adjusting it.) The sides of the canopy can be unzipped to reveal mesh windows, which provide ventilation on hot days. And the fabric flap on the canopy’s plastic peekaboo window is secured with a magnet, so a caretaker can check on a child without waking them by ripping open a Velcro strip.

Unlike those of some other strollers we tested, this model’s foot brake is easy to set. (In 2024, Thule moved the footrest from the center to the ride side, but it didn't change its function.) It can even be activated and deactivated when you’re wearing sandals, so it’s comfortable to use when you’re running errands.

Of all the jogging strollers we’ve tested, the Urban Glide is one of the easiest to fold one-handed. The stroller automatically locks, and it can stand when folded (though it really isn’t designed to do so, and we’ve found it often falls over). Because this stroller is lighter, it’s significantly easier to lift into a car trunk or carry up stairs than other jogging strollers, though it is still bigger than most standard strollers. The wheels can also easily be removed if you’re traveling. Assembly took just five minutes and required no extra tools.

If you can find them, previously used versions of the Urban Glide usually age well. Each model has slightly different traits. If you buy the original, which was introduced in 2014, you won’t have a handlebar brake, reflective rims, or an auto-lock fold. If you buy the Urban Glide 2, the sun canopy will be shorter (though maybe that’s for the best) and the leg rest will not be adjustable.

Thule strollers come with a limited lifetime warranty .

The Urban Glide 3 comes in black, blue, and mustard green.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

You need to use two hands to buckle the harness straps. But this inconvenience is actually a plus in terms of safety because the harness tightens and stays locked better than most of the other harnesses we tested.

Thule’s add-on accessories are pricey. Calum Neff , a father of three who broke two world records for running with a stroller, recommends adding bike cupholders and phone holders (which tend to be cheaper) if you need add-on storage for your wallet and water bottle. (Jenni uses a much-cheaper City Mini Baby Jogger parent console with the Thule, and it works just fine.)

Like almost all of the other strollers we tested, this stroller does not have adjustable suspension. Although the suspension system works great with a lighter kid, it would be nice to be able to tighten or loosen the system when the stroller is used with a bigger child or on rocky terrain. The Urban Glide 3 is also better on pavement than on trails—the manual specifies “public roads” and “smooth paths.” So if you tend to go off-road frequently, you should consider our also-great pick, the BOB Gear Wayfinder.

The Urban Glide 3 is 2 inches wider than the BOB Gear Wayfinder. That makes it a bit harder to use in stores with narrow aisles and harder-to-navigate through doorways.

Weight: 25 pounds Car seat compatibility: The T hule Urban Glide 3 requires a car seat adaptor that only accommodates 4 brands. Unlike some of our other picks, you can only use the Thule with Chicco, Joie, Nuna and Uppababy car seats, and you’ll need to buy that adaptor separately from the stroller itself. Included accessories: zip-top cargo basket Add-on accessories:   rain shield , mesh cover , snack tray ,  bumper bar

Our pick for best jogging stroller that can be taken on trails and dirt paths, the BOB Gear Wayfinder.

If you plan to run or walk on trails most of the time, consider the BOB Gear Wayfinder . This sturdy but compact stroller replaces our former pick, the Alterrain , in BOB Gear’s lineup. We tested the Wayfinder for two months and found it to be superior to the Alterrain, since it’s more compact but rides just as well over rough ground. The Wayfinder can also carry a heavier kid than the Thule Urban Glide 3 can, but the Wayfinder is also about 5 pounds heavier, and its storage basket has a smaller weight capacity.

Like all BOB strollers, the Wayfinder is a star on trails. BOB Gear has been making items for more than 20 years, and the expertise shows. The company’s durable strollers are often passed down through friends or family for a decade or longer, and they’re well built for off-road adventures. The Wayfinder, the newest jogging stroller in the company’s line, has a solid suspension system of shocks and springs (the most robust of any stroller we’ve tested). And it has deeply treaded tires, which drag a bit on pavement but keep you moving quickly over rocks and roots. This stroller has a notably compact design—it’s slightly more narrow than the Alterrain (by about half an inch) and 2 inches narrower than the Thule Urban Glide—so it easily turns and bounces over potholes.

It has great safety features. Like the Urban Glide 3, the Wayfinder has a swivel-locking front wheel, which helps prevent it from wobbling on all terrains. It has a bicycle-style hand brake, which you squeeze, rather than twisting it. Jenni and her husband found the Wayfinder’s hand brake to be much more intuitive to use when you’re moving quickly.

A close-up of the hand brake on the BOB Gear Wayfinder jogging stroller.

It offers a comfortable ride. In some ways, the Wayfinder is more comfortable for kids than the Urban Glide 3. The Wayfinder has a more-padded back support and the most upright seat position of any stroller we looked at. (Compared with regular strollers, jogging strollers are required to have a more-reclined upright position, which is safer if the stroller stops quickly.) Like our budget pick, the Chicco Activ3 , the Wayfinder reclines nearly fully for an on-the-go nap. And our toddler testers liked the fact that they could see out and more fully participate in the world when sitting in the Wayfinder.

A close-up of the treaded off-road tires on the BOB Gear Wayfinder jogging stroller.

The Wayfinder can be folded with one hand. And though the Thule Urban Glide 3 is lighter and therefore easier to lift, the Wayfinder is compact, so it fits better in smaller cars. Both strollers fit in Jenni’s family’s Honda CRV, but the Wayfinder also fit well in the trunk of her Prius. And it can stand up on its own better than the Urban Glide 3 can.

It took our testers between five and 10 minutes to assemble the Wayfinder (similar to assembly of the Urban Glide, but not quite as seamless). And we needed to use an Allen wrench to attach the front wheel.

BOB Gear strollers come with a five-year warranty on the frames and a one-year warranty on the fabric .

The Wayfinder comes in two colors, black and gray.

The BOB Gear Wayfinder is more than 5 pounds heavier than the Thule Urban Glide 3. This makes it slightly less nimble and less convenient for around-town use. After running many miles, we could definitely feel the Wayfinder’s extra weight in our fatigued arms and legs. In particular, running uphill was more challenging with the Wayfinder than with the Urban Glide 3.

The harness is not as feature-rich. Although the Wayfinder’s crotch strap can be adjusted (like the Thule Urban Glide 3’s), the harness is padded only in the shoulders, not the crotch, and the straps are narrower. The Urban Glide 3 is also better for taller kids, since there’s a longer distance between the stroller seat and canopy.

A close-up of the harness on the BOB Gear Wayfinder jogging stroller.

Due to its smaller size, the Wayfinder also loses out on storage space. Compared with the Thule Urban Glide 3 (which has a much-needed mesh pocket on the back of the child’s seat, holding a wallet, keys, and more), the Wayfinder has fewer easy-to-access pockets in the storage area or on the back of the seat. (We did like the Wayfinder stroller’s two in-seat pockets, where kids can store treasures, but they’re small.)

Unlike the Thule Urban Glide 3, the Wayfinder comes with a cupholder (and you can purchase a second one). But we found this was useful only when we were walking, not running, because anything we put into the cupholder bounced out.

Weight: 31.1 pounds Car seat compatibility: You can use the Wayfinder from 8 weeks with an infant car seat (walking only) and an add-on adapter , which is compatible with a number of seats . Three of them are our picks . Included accessories: zip-top cargo basket, parent cupholder Add-on accessories: snack tray , handlebar console

Our pick for best jogging stroller on a budget, the Chicco Activ3.

The Chicco Activ3 Jogging Stroller was a pleasant surprise. It offers a good jogging setup for caregivers and a smooth, comfortable ride for kids, at a much lower price than our other picks. If you plan to run long distances often, however, our other picks are better choices. And if budget is the top concern, we’d recommend trying to find our top pick or also-great pick secondhand over buying the Activ3.

The Chicco Activ3 has adjustable suspension—a nice feature our other picks don’t have. We were genuinely overjoyed to find adjustable suspension on a budget stroller. Using your foot to tap a lever on the backs of the wheels, you can toggle the suspension from soft and loose (best on varied terrain) to hard and stiff (best for pavement) while you’re running. This adjustment makes a noticeable difference, especially when you need to pop off the paved road for a minute and jog across the grass. This was the only stroller Jenni’s 9-month-old daughter fell asleep in, likely because the solid suspension offered a smooth ride.

A close-up of the harness on the Chicco Activ3 jogging stroller.

It provides a comfortable ride for kids. Like the BOB Gear Wayfinder, the Chicco Activ3 reclines nearly fully via a one-handed mechanism on the back of the seat. Jenni’s 3-year-old loved that when it wasn’t reclined, the seat was more upright than the Thule’s, so he could look around. The Activ3 has a well-padded seat, too, so bumps don’t seem to make much of an impact on the child. And compared with those of our other picks, this stroller’s sunshade is the most extensive, with a clear window up top (so you can see what’s happening inside the stroller) and magnetic straps to keep the cover locked on. When Jenni ran with her daughter in a snowstorm, she was barely damp, and she fell asleep—again! The Activ3 also has notably well-placed ventilation for the summer months.

Unlike most budget jogging strollers, the Activ3 has a locking front wheel. This stroller’s front wheel locks and unlocks with a lever on the left side of the adjustable handlebar; you do need to be careful with releasing the lever while the stroller is still moving, since it can pinch your fingers. Unlike with the other strollers we tried, with the Activ3 there’s no way to adjust that front wheel’s tracking system. Although the stroller didn’t veer at all during our many test runs, we’ll continue to monitor this over time.

You can buy the Activ3 as part of a travel system , which also includes one of our infant car seat picks , the Chicco KeyFit 30 , and its base. (The KeyFit can easily be attached to the Activ3 for walks with your child before they gain head control.) It took about 20 minutes to build this stroller (longer than it took us to build our top and runner-up picks), and assembling it required many more looks back at the manual.

The Activ3 comes in one color, gray.

The Chicco Activ3 has a lower total weight limit and less storage space. It can carry 62 total pounds, compared with 75 pounds for both the Thule Urban Glide 3 and BOB Gear Wayfinder. Its cargo basket also has limited space and no cover; items tended to bounce out when we got going too quickly.

A close-up of the storage basket underneath the Chicco Activ3 jogging stroller.

The handlebar and buckles are both harder to adjust. The Activ3’s five-point harness works just fine, but it’s less padded than the Thule or BOB Gear systems, and tightening it requires a bit more strength. The handlebar does adjust, but it’s also a bit hard to handle (requiring a double-button push that can be sticky), and it offers fewer height options than either of our other picks. That’s fine for shorter runners (like Jenni, who’s 5-foot-3), but Jenni’s husband, who’s 6-foot-3, wished the handlebar was a notch or two higher.

A top-down view of the adjustable handlebar on the Chicco Activ3 jogging stroller.

The brakes are built into the handlebar. (They’re on the right side in the image above.) This location is unique; none of the other strollers we tested had only a hand brake. We think it feels less safe than having a foot brake, but you can still lock the wheels if you need to walk away from the stroller.

Chicco doesn’t offer a lifetime warranty on strollers (it does for its car seats). If you change your mind, the stroller must be returned within 30 days, in new, unused condition. (There’s a one-year manufacturer warranty on all products if something breaks.) Chicco does offer replacement parts for a small cost, should something break after a few years. But compared with those of other strollers we recommend, Chicco’s warranty leaves much to be desired.

Weight: 27.5 pounds Car seat compatibility: You can use the Chicco Activ3 from birth with all Chicco KeyFit and Fit2 infant car seats (walking only) by clicking the car seat into the arm bar. Included accessories: parent tray with two cupholders Add-on accessories: none

If you can find our previous also-great pick: The now-discontinued BOB Gear Alterrain is still a great stroller if you can find it for sale new or used, and it’s especially great for people who run and walk on unpaved roads. With its treaded tires and hefty shock absorbers, the Gear Alterrain excels at keeping kids comfortable on bumps. Overall, we like the company’s newer model, the Wayfinder , better. The Wayfinder is narrower than the Alterrain, with a streamlined effect that makes running feel smoother. The Wayfinder is also easier to transport in your car, due to its smaller size. But if you find the Alterrain for a significantly lower price than the Wayfinder, we think you’ll likely be happy with it.

If you like the BOB Gear Alterrain but want a hand brake: You might consider the now-discontinued BOB Gear Alterrain Pro , which can still be found at some stores and second-hand. For about $80 more than the Alterrain, this model offers additional features, such as the hand brake, a zip-top cargo basket, and a waterproof canopy and seat.

If you’re looking for a compact jogging stroller: When it’s folded, the Guava Family Roam Crossover Stroller is about 50% smaller than the other jogging strollers we tested, and it stands up solidly on its own handlebars. (But at 28.5 pounds, it’s still heavy, compared with the Thule Urban Glide 3 at 25 pounds.) The Guava Family stroller was the easiest one to pack in the car or store in a small space; we think it would be well suited for subway commutes and even airport travel. It has a bumpier ride than our other picks, though, thanks to smaller, airless rubber tires and inferior suspension (which our toddler tester complained about).

If you plan to bike or cross-country ski with your kid as much as you run (or more): The Thule Chariot Cross Single may be worth the extra cost. It has a big cargo space, rear reflectors, a padded seat, sun and rain covers, adjustable suspension, and an adjustable handlebar. It’ll work right out of the box for biking and walking; jogging and cross-country ski kits are sold separately. The Thule Chariot Cross Double holds two kids.

If you’re looking for a double jogger: The Thule Urban Glide 3 Double is similar to Thule’s single stroller but offers room for two kids. And if you have an infant and a bigger kid, the infant can be in a bassinet or a car seat (with an adaptor) while the other relaxes in the adjacent seat. (And it’s still well balanced when you’re carrying just one child.)

The AAP warns parents against hanging bags or other items from a stroller’s handlebar, since the weight can cause the stroller to tip. The organization also advises caregivers to use the stroller’s parking brake whenever stopped.

Jogging strollers are housed in the bicycle department at sporting-goods and outdoor-gear stores, and for an excellent reason: Many of the features, such as a lightweight frame and air-filled tires, are the same in bikes and jogging strollers. That analogy extends to tune-ups, too. Strollers should get a tune-up every three to six months, depending on how much they’re used and whether they’re used on challenging surfaces, such as sand or gravel.

It’s important to keep tires properly inflated, too: Thule recommends filling them to between 30 and 35 psi; BOB Gear recommends 30 psi. Both companies advise checking all stroller parts regularly to ensure that they are tightly secured, that there are no tears in the fabric, and that there’s no damage or excessive wear.

To keep your stroller looking fresh, check out our advice on how to clean a stroller .

The Baby Jogger Summit X3 has some interesting features, like the ability to lock the front swivel wheel from the handlebar (which the Chicco Activ3 has as well). But reviewers found it difficult to push and not worth the price.

The inexpensive Baby Trend Expedition Jogger feels clunky and plasticky, especially compared with the smooth rides of the Thule and BOB Gear strollers. This stroller’s lack of suspension and tracking adjustability made it hard to run straight for long periods of time, and we found this model harder to push with one hand than our picks.

The BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 doesn’t have the high-class suspension system, ventilated side panels, or one-handed-fold system that you’ll find on the Bob Gear Wayfinder or the now-discontinued BOB Gear Alterrain or Revolution Pro strollers (both former also-great picks). This one may work fine for you if you won’t be running on bumpy terrain.

The BOB Gear Rambler , the company’s “starter” jogging stroller, has relatively poor suspension and doesn’t offer a one-handed fold, an adjustable handlebar, or a hand brake. It’s being discontinued, but it’s still for sale. For a stroller at this price, you’re better off with the Chicco Activ3 or finding a used model of our other recommendations.

We tested the Bumbleride Speed several years ago and again in 2023. We liked that it had the option to set the front wheel to partial swiveling for jogging, as well as a small hand pump for low tires, included in the cargo-basket pocket. But during testing it veered constantly, despite our frequently adjusting the front-wheel tracking system.

Although we used to recommend the Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight Jogging Stroller , we stopped after Joovy voluntarily recalled all models manufactured between March and October 2020, due to a faulty front-wheel bearing. Joovy still makes the stroller and says it has addressed the problem.

We liked the smoother ride, one-handed recline, and cushioned harness of the Joovy Zoom Single Jogging Stroller . But it has middling suspension, it tends to veer during long runs, the handlebar isn’t as adjustable as we’d like, and it was fussy to assemble.

The Mountain Buggy Terrain shares many of our picks’ features, and it offers a few more, including cupholders, a storage basket that can hold up to 22 pounds, and a set of 12-inch rear wheels (to swap in for the 16-inch ones when you’re strolling around town). However, this stroller is expensive, and BabyGearLab reports that it did not perform as well as the Thule and BOB models it tested.

The Thule Chariot Lite 1 is a less expensive, more-basic version of the Thule Chariot Cross, and we think you’re better off with the original version (or a used version of it). For a few hundred dollars more, you get adjustable suspension and extra padding, as well as a more-adjustable handlebar. Neither the Lite nor the Cross come with the jogging or skiing kits—you’ll need to buy those separately.

The Uppababy Ridge was recalled in September 2022 following a single incident in which a child’s fingertip was amputated by the stroller’s rear disc brake. The child was not riding in the stroller at the time. Owners of the stroller should contact Uppababy through the form at the bottom of this recall page for free replacement parts. Ridge strollers made after September 2022 have the replacement disc already installed. We tested this stroller in 2021 and concluded that it provided fewer features and less versatility than our top picks. Still, we thought it could be a good choice for people who already love the Uppababy line and plan to jog only occasionally on paved sidewalks.

The Best Convertible Strollers for Your Expanding Family, Tested by Ours

These strollers go from single to double and back again, to suit your needs.

Our Favorite Convertible Strollers

Other notable convertible strollers, our testing process, our experts.

  • Factors to Consider
  • How to Use Safely

Parents / Leticia Almeida

Convertible strollers are kind of magical: They grow right along with your family, changing from a single stroller to a double stroller when you decide to have a second baby , and then back again when your older one is done riding. Some even accommodate a third kid! And all of this is with just one purchase (and maybe some accessories along the way). To find the best convertible strollers , we tested just about every model we could find (20 and counting!) both in our lab and in the real world with our own kids.

“Purchasing a stroller can be an investment, so having one that gives options to grow with your child and with your family can be a great choice,” explains Amanda Stovall, M.D. , an Illinois-based board-certified pediatrician.

During testing , we evaluated how easy these convertible strollers were to assemble, how hard it was to add and remove a second seat , their maneuverability on various terrains, and how easy they were to fold and unfold. We also looked at design (aesthetics, safety, and comfort), storage capabilities, value, and durability . We check in with our editor testers regularly to see how well these strollers are holding up, and we’re constantly testing new models to add to this list.

Best Overall: Uppababy Vista V2 Stroller

Best budget: graco modes nest2grow stroller, best luxury: cybex gazelle s stroller, best with rider board: nuna demi next stroller.

  • Best Storage: Baby Jogger City Select 2
  • Most Comfortable for Your Baby: egg2 stroller

Why We Like It

In the words of our tester, “ This stroller is a dream .” Not only did the Uppababy Vista V2 earn high marks in the lab for everything from assembly and comfort to value and design, but it also excelled in all real-world testing. Plus, it’s a stroller we see all over New York City, carrying as many as three kids (with a ride-along board ) and loaded up with bags. You also get a ton of value with the V2: The base package includes the stroller, bassinet, toddler bug shield, toddler rain shield, bassinet bug shield, and a bassinet storage bag.

Maneuverability: Our testers found the UPPAbaby Vista V2 to be incredibly easy to maneuver and push on nearly every terrain. It’s also a solid and sturdy framed stroller, which ups the confidence ante when pushing it through tough-to-navigate spaces.

Comfort : This may be the most comfortable stroller on our list , for both parents and kids alike. For instance, both seats (when installed) can face forward or backward, and tilt way back for sleeping littles. The handlebar’s height is also adjustable, so parents and caregivers of any height can push the stroller comfortably. The details of the stroller—including the extendable canopy, padded harness straps, and distance between seat additions—are all well-designed too.

Storage: The under-stroller storage basket can hold up to 30 pounds and is extremely roomy . Best of all, it's easy to access because it extends beyond the seats. The only caveat is that it has a support bar running through the middle, which cuts into its capacity (though is essential to the stroller’s sturdiness). And the tall parents on our team really appreciate that they never find themselves kicking the stroller’s storage basket as they walk, which they report happens frequently with other strollers.

But Take Note

Taller kids may eventually outgrow the canopy, as happened with our real-world tester. This is a pricey pick, but it’s also our top pick, so we feel it’s worth the cost, especially if you plan on using it with several kids and using it frequently.

The Details:

• Dimensions : 36 x 25.7 x 39.5 inches • Product weight: 27 pounds (stroller with toddler seat), 8.8 pounds (bassinet) • Child age/weight range : Birth up to 20 pounds or until infant can push up on hands and knees, whichever comes first, in the bassinet; 3 months to 50 pounds in the toddler seat • Cost of adding second seat: $250

The Graco Modes Nest2Grow Stroller checks a lot of boxes: It’s straightforward and simple to assemble, budget-friendly, and comes with snack trays and drink holders for both kids and grown-ups. We also appreciate that it’s easy to fold and easy to clean , with a machine-washable seat pad.

Maneuverability : The Nest2Grow weighs over 30 pounds, a bit on the heavier side , which affected how the stroller performed during the maneuverability test in the lab. While the stroller turned easily on hard floors, it struggled when it came to maneuvering on grass and carpet. If you plan on using this mostly on pavement and indoors, though, this stroller is a fantastic deal.

Comfort: The Graco Modes Nest2Grow has an impressive array of 15 different seating arrangements and both seats can be forward-facing or parent-facing. The toddler seat also has multiple reclining positions.

Storage : We were impressed by the large storage basket under the seats, providing plenty of space for essentials, like an older sibling’s school backpack. Even when the stroller is used as a double, there’s still plenty of room, and the basket is easy to reach.

It takes more effort to push on some terrains, especially when used with two kids, and didn’t feel as sturdy as the other strollers we tested, but for a single-to-double stroller at less than half the price of a Vista, it’s a solid option.

• Dimensions : 25.75 x 35.5 x 47 inches • Product weight : 36 pounds • Child age/weight range : Children up to 50 pounds • Cost of adding second seat: $150

The Cybex Gazelle moves like a Gazelle—effortlessly and easily—even when weighed down by up to three kids and groceries. With the purchase of a second seat (or the cot for newborns ) and a kid board , you can push up to three kids without breaking a sweat.

Before your family gets that big, however, you can also take advantage of one of our favorite included accessories: a removable shopping basket. Between that basket and the generous cargo space , you can carry up to 55 pounds in addition to your kiddo.

Maneuverability : Thanks to a lightweight frame, foam tires, and all-wheel suspension, our tester described this as a “ very agile ” stroller and noted that it was her “favorite to move around” of all the strollers tested. It handled bumps with ease and front-wheel shocks ensured a smooth ride for the kids.

Comfort : Extra-large canopies shield kids from the elements, while the footrest with an extra ledge and a fully reclining seat ensures they stay comfortable. Grown-ups will also enjoy the cupholder , which for some reason is a rare sight on high-end strollers recently.

Storage: With both seats installed, the under-stroller storage basket offers ample room. You’ll find a good amount of space, even if you pack in a lot of bags. One drawback is that it doesn’t have the extended basket that makes reaching in super simple; you’ll have to reach under when both seats are installed. When using it as a single stroller, you can add another removable storage basket where the second seat would go.

Assembly is not as easy as the other strollers on the list. If possible, have two people around to put it together and give yourself plenty of time to set this one up—don’t try to throw it together just before you leave the house with it for the first time.

• Dimensions : 41.9 x 25.4 x 42.7 inches • Product weight : 28.4 pounds (with one seat and no shopping basket) • Child age/weight range : Up to 50 pounds per seat • Cost of adding second seat: $240

The quality of this stroller is top-notch: In our tests, we found the Demi to be very sturdy and durable . It can be used as a single or double stroller with a toddler seat or rider board that can hold up to 50 pounds.

Testers especially appreciated how compact the stroller was compared to other double or convertible options. We also loved the magnetic technology on the harness and buckles because it eliminates searching for straps with a squirmy child and basically buckles itself, which is a major win.

Maneuverability : We found the Nuna Demi Next to be a very smooth ride , but the large back wheels—while great for shock absorption—did make going up on curbs or steps, somewhat challenging. We also found that the stroller didn’t turn through our cone obstacle course very easily, so it didn’t perform as the best stroller for city living or getting through crowded spaces. “It can be done, but it'll take lots of care and cautious navigation,” our tester described.

Comfort: This pick has tons of features that make it more comfortable for caregivers and kids alike. There are adjustable parent and child handlebars, as well as adjustable foot and calf supports. The seats are also well-padded and well-designed.

Storage : The storage basket is large, with ample space for the diaper bag and more, even with the roller board folded inside. The basket can hold up to 22 pounds.

It’s impossible to fold this stroller one-handed while holding a baby and even once it is folded, it’s still pretty large and cumbersome.

• Dimensions : Folded: 23.5 x 24 x 35 inches; Open: 39.5 x 24 x 43.5 inches • Product weight: 26 pounds; 31 pounds with insert and rider board • Child age/weight range: Stroller suitable from birth to 50 pounds; Ride-along board suitable up to 50 pounds • Cost of adding second seat: $250

Best Storage: Baby Jogger City Select 2 Single-to-Double Modular Stroller

The Baby Jogger City Select 2 is lightweight and compact yet sturdy and durable . Folding it one-handed and changing the seats is a breeze, making it convenient to pack away quickly. If you have two kids close in age, you’ll appreciate that this stroller has more than 24 possible configurations that can accommodate them. Plus, you can even add a third passenger on the ride-on board for triple the fun. It's sold as a single stroller or as a travel system with an infant car seat, and you can purchase a second toddler seat for it separately.

Maneuverability : This stroller weighs in at just under 27 pounds and features front-wheel suspension and all-terrain tires, which allowed it to maneuver with ease through our obstacle course. When pushing the City Select 2, we liked the handlebar, which felt durable, comfortable, and controllable. Overall, it got high marks for easy turning and providing a smooth ride for kids.

Comfort: From a caregiver perspective, the City Select 2 folds down to a 20% smaller size than other double strollers, which makes it easy to store or pack into a car trunk. But that doesn’t mean it's not roomy. You can fit two toddlers in seats, plus a third rider on the ride-on board, and still have room in the storage basket. In fact, Baby Jogger’s claim to fame is that there’s actually more room between two seats than the Uppababy Vista V2.

Storage : The City Select 2 features a large storage basket under the seats that holds up to 15 pounds of essentials. We were able to fit a diaper bag in there with room to spare, and it didn’t weigh the stroller down.

When using the stroller in double stroller mode with both seats facing forward, only the back seat reclines all the way, while the front seat does not.

• Dimensions : 35 x 23.8 x 41.1 inches • Product weight : 26.71 pounds • Child age/weight range: Children up to 45 pounds in each seat • Cost of adding second seat: $260

Most Comfortable for Your Baby: egg2 stroller

The egg2 is a luxury stroller that lives up to its relatively high price tag. It’s sturdy, maneuverable, striking to look at, and made with high-quality materials that offer comfort for both adults and babies. Plus, it’s very adaptable and can be customized in six different configurations .

We especially appreciated that the fastening and unfastening of the buckles on this stroller was smooth and seamless, which, as our tester pointed out, is a great feature “when you have a toddler who wants out immediately.”

Maneuverability : Our tester concluded that in both single and double stroller modes, the egg2 has excellent maneuverability and handled pavers, astroturf, hard floors, and turns through cones with “no problem.” The stroller is on the heavier side, so it wasn’t ideal for taking up and down stairs. We also found that the brake on this stroller doesn’t have an on/off indicator, so the only way to confirm if the brake is engaged is to physically wiggle it, which could pose an issue in a rush.

Comfort : Comfort is king with the egg2, down to the cushioned, perforated faux leather handle that’s adjustable to five different heights. The seat has a very spongy, memory foam-like padding , with an extra insert for smaller infants and additional padding at the legs and shoulder harnesses.

Storage: The under-seat basket has a 21-liter capacity , which is considerable. With two seats installed, there isn’t much room for a diaper bag, however. With two toddler seats in the stroller, we found that it’s possible to fit one large-size bag in the storage basket, but that left no legroom for the child in the second seat.

While the egg2 is comfortable with luxury details, we believe there are comparable strollers that offer the same function for a lower price.

• Dimensions: Unfolded: 39 x 23 x 47 inches; folded without the seat unit: 20 x 23 x 28 inches • Product weight: 42 pounds  • Child age/weight range: Up to 55 pounds  • Cost of adding second seat: $350

While these strollers didn’t quite make it onto our list, we still felt they were worth mentioning:

  • Bugaboo Donkey5 Twin Black Stroller : This stroller was large and cumbersome to maneuver. The design and assembly were also somewhat complicated, so it’s not intuitively parent-friendly out of the box.
  • Mockingbird 2.0 : When used with two seats, the Mockingbird 2.0 can’t fold one-handed and it’s very bulky even when folded. We also found the stroller to be wobbly in our testing.

Parents performs hands-on testing in both a controlled laboratory as well as in real life with actual parents in various settings, from sidewalks to off-road situations. Plus, we don’t just stop at initial testing—we ensure that all of the strollers we test are evaluated over time to see how they hold up to real-life use. (Because that stroller is going through some puddles and bumps in the real world!) So far, we’ve tested 20 different convertible strollers on the following attributes:

  • Assembly : We assessed how easy or difficult it was to assemble and operate the stroller. What kind of tools did we need? Can one caregiver put it together alone?
  • Design : We tested how well the stroller worked as a single and after being converted to a double. We also tested all additional features, such as storage basket capacity (with a stuffed-full diaper bag, of course), adjustable handlebars, cup holders, footrests, and removable bumper bars. Some of these attributes were more subjective, but we considered features we would want when traveling with our own children, like sun-protection canopies, reliable harnesses that aren’t a pain to buckle and unbuckle, comfort for kids and adults, and style.
  • Ease of folding : A stroller’s gotta stroll, but it also needs to exist somewhere when it’s not in motion, so we evaluated how easily each one actually folded. If a stroller brand claims it can fold one-handed, it better live up to that promise.
  • Maneuverability : We tested how smoothly each stroller maneuvered on different terrains, including shag carpeting, hardwood flooring, gravel, and bumpy ground. We also carried the strollers up and down a flight of stairs. We checked the brakes on each stroller to determine whether they were easy to use and intuitively placed. Value : Are you getting your money’s worth out of this stroller or are you paying for flashy, non-functional details? It’s also important to consider that value can be calculated a bit differently with a convertible stroller because you’re looking at the cost investment over a longer period and over multiple children and ages. That means we’re looking for quality and durability that matches the price tag.

In addition to our rigorous lab and hands-on testing, we also interviewed the following experts to glean insight into features to look for and considerations for choosing and using convertible strollers:

  • Amanda Stovall, M.D., an Illinois-based board-certified pediatrician with OSF Healthcare
  • Emily Hosie , founder and CEO of the parenting product resale shop Rebelstork
  • Tamiz Ahmed , co-founder of Poppylist, an online baby registry and parenting resource

Factors to Consider When Buying a Convertible Stroller

The primary reasons to buy a convertible stroller are because it can carry your kids from the infant to the big kid stage, and because it can accommodate more than one child at once. Here are some factors to consider when buying a convertible stroller.

  • Children’s Weights and Ages: If you have more than one child right now, you’ll want to check the weight and height restrictions on each seat.
  • Design: Consider how you will use the stroller and what features are most important to you. Do you need two infant seats, two toddler seats, or the ability to add a third rider? Do you need weather protection, the ability to handle curbs and sidewalks, or larger wheels that can handle dirt roads? Ahmed recommends ensuring that the stroller is compatible with your baby’s car seats if you plan to use it from the newborn stage.
  • Ease of Use: Stuffing three kids and bags into a stroller may never be easy, but some strollers really are designed with functionality in mind. Look for features like foldability, easy in-and-out harnesses, and fast conversion. “Strollers that require extensive effort to switch between modes can detract from the convenience. With a little practice, conversion should be able to happen within seconds, not minutes,” says Ahmed.
  • Comfort: Comfort is important for both children and caregivers. For kids, look for things like full-coverage canopies, weather-protectant features, full-recline seats, and padded harnesses and buckles. Caregivers should assess the handlebar to ensure it’s comfortable to push and easy to maneuver, even one-handed. If people of different heights will be pushing it, be sure the stroller’s handle adjusts or suits all heights.
  • Storage: Along with stowing your kids, you want a stroller that can accommodate all their stuff too. Look for a storage basket that can handle your diaper bag as well as a shopping bag. And be sure you can actually reach the basket while the kids are in it. Cupholders and snack trays are always nice too.
  • Your Budget: A convertible stroller can be a higher upfront investment than a single stroller, but Hosie points out that “usually, a convertible stroller is more economical than purchasing two separate strollers for multiple children.” First, be sure you understand how many seats are included in the base stroller and factor in the cost of any additional seats. Still, investing in a more expensive, higher-quality product often ends up costing less than buying several cheaper strollers. At the same time, because these strollers must have strong frames that are big enough to fit two seats, you may eventually want to purchase a more compact travel stroller, too.

How to Use Convertible Strollers Safely

Any stroller sold in the U.S. must meet minimum federal safety regulations outlined by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). These regulations cover many different safety components, including the type of paint and plastic that can be used in strollers. All strollers sold in the U.S. must pass these regulations and earn a Children's Product Certificate issued by the CPSC. When using a convertible stroller, keep these safety considerations in mind:

Ages and Stages

To keep kids riding safely, Dr. Stovall recommends first considering your child’s age and development. “For young infants who are unable to hold their head up and support their trunks for a given period of time, a reclinable stroller is best. These will lie flat, giving your baby a safe space to travel in while meeting safe sleep standards,” she explains.

Babies who are too young to sit up in a seat can safely ride in a convertible stroller that accepts infant car seats or has a bassinet attachment. Once your child is able to sit up and have adequate head control, usually around 6 months old, they can progress to a seat. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) cautions that infants under 4 months old should never be allowed to sleep in a stroller because of the risk of positional suffocation.

There are no specific rules about having seats front- or rear-facing in a stroller. Rear-facing may be the best option for infants since it helps to be able to monitor your baby, and baby development is boosted by looking at their caregiver’s face and expressions too.

Dr. Stovall says parents and caregivers should check the stroller’s total weight limit, especially if they’re using it with more than one child. Just because the stroller says it can accept three kids doesn’t mean that it can handle all weights and heights of all riders. “Strollers are safest and most stable when the rider does not exceed the weight limit,” Dr. Stovall notes.

Safety Harness

One safety feature that’s universal on single-to-double strollers is a harness. They often come in three- or five-point restraints, but Dr. Stovall recommends using a five-point harness if possible, a recommendation also cited by the AAP. That means that your child will be safely secured at both shoulders, at the chest, and around their hips. “Check the straps—just like in car seats, five-point harnesses are safest,” Dr. Stovall says. “If you are trying to use straps for a younger baby, ensure they cannot slip through the leg openings.”

More weight can mean more risk of tipping or falling over. In general, Dr. Stovall notes that wide-based strollers are more stable and, overall, less likely to tip over—it’s a trade-off for maneuvering, but if you plan to use a convertible stroller with a lot of stuff or a lot of kids, consider choosing one that’s as sturdy and stable as possible.

“With the addition of a second seat, the stroller’s center of gravity changes, which can affect stability,” Ahmed explains. “Look for strollers with a wide base and robust design to ensure safety.”

Hosie points out that using the storage basket is protective against a stroller tipping over because it avoids things like draping bags over the handlebars or hanging things off the side of the stroller. Still, when using the storage basket, especially when it’s stuffed full of stuff, check that nothing is blocking the stroller from working correctly or posing a risk to entanglement.

Protection from the Elements

“Be mindful of the sun, even on cooler days,” Dr. Stovall cautions. To help ensure your baby is protected from harmful UV rays, Hosie recommends looking for a stroller with a large or extendable canopy. Many canopy options include a clear window that allows you to see your child even when the canopy is down.

Finally, don’t forget to check the brakes, Dr. Stovall says. “The safest strollers have two brakes on the back wheels, are easy for you to use, and are out of reach of children in the stroller,” she explains. The AAP recommends putting the brake on any time the stroller is parked, even if you think the stroller is on a flat surface.

Best Lightweight Double Stroller

Summer infant 3dlite lightweight double stroller for infant & toddler.

At the end of this article, you can find more information on how we test double strollers, a rundown of the different types of double strollers and expert tips to help you decide if purchasing a double stroller is worth it for your needs. Looking for more baby gear to invest in? Take a look at our picks for the best cribs for babies and toddlers , best bassinets and best portable car seats .

Our Lab experts love the City Mini GT2's design because it has all the best features of the original GT model: roomy seats for both kids, a super-simple fold and rubber wheels that can take on tough sidewalks and dirt paths . This GT2 also includes large peekaboo windows in the canopies with magnetic closures and an adjustable leg area so your child can rest their calves comfortably.

Testers say this is a double that rolls smoothly — its all-wheel suspension helps with that. Our Lab experts also like the fold: You pull up on straps, one on each seat (under where a child sits), and the whole thing folds in half in a second or two. You can then store it resting upright. To open, you lift a latch and unfold it, which also only takes a few seconds.

The basket, while nice and wide, is completely under the seats and a bit difficult to access. (You have to bend down and reach over.) Our testers stashed things in the pockets behind each seat whenever possible. But our lead tester's family appreciated the adjustable handlebar, saying, "It easily adjusted between me at five-foot-three and my husband at six-foot-one."

This lightweight pick has been popular for years as a less bulky way to get two kids, toddler age and above, around. It weighs only about 18 pounds, and our analysts found that the lightweight frame made the stroller easy to fold, carry and store in the trunk or at home. Plus, the price is hard to beat!

Part of what makes the fold so slim is that there's no storage basket, though there are two pockets behind each seat. Our lead tester's husband complained about the handle placement being low, saying, "It's not ideal for tall parents." The small canopies also keep the stroller lightweight, but they're not very sun-shielding, so if you take your kids out for long sunlit walks, we'd recommend getting something bigger or adding on an additional stroller sunshade.

This stroller is perfect for short runs to stores, parks and preschool. And if you're looking for a way to easily move two kids through an airport, this pick is for you. It also meets Disney size requirements if you're looking for a stroller to get you through the parks and on and off the buses.

Summer Infant 3Dlite Lightweight Double Stroller for Infant & Toddler

If you have a family road trip coming up or if you're looking for a compact option to fit in your car while driving to and from outings, this model by Summer Infant is an affordable double stroller that won't take up much room in your trunk — and it can seat a baby as young as 6 months.

It includes a carry handle and is lightweight for everyday travel and beyond. Additional features include seats that recline separately (in case one kid wants to lean back and the other wants to sit up), storage baskets underneath and (granted, minimal) canopies to keep the sun out of your kids' eyes.

While this double stroller is a great option for families who travel a lot, a tester noted that it doesn't perform well as on rugged terrain, saying, "The small plastic wheels turn easily through an airport but are not ready for trails." Another said, "There's a learning curve when figuring out how to close this stroller."

UPPAbaby Vista V2 Stroller

Vista V2 Stroller

Whether you have one child, two or three, this stroller can transition from birth through toddlerhood : Put a baby in the bassinet (included) and an additional child in the UPPAbaby RumbleSeat V2 (sold separately). Add the Vista PiggyBack ride-along board to the back and you can even take three kids, which our lead tester tried out and appreciated. The Vista V2 comes with a rain shield, and the basket, which can hold up to 30 pounds of stuff, has some spring to it, so you can pull it down to grab things out.

The Vista V2 is at the top of our list of the best strollers because if you start with this for your first kid, you can add to it and make it a double later, then subtract and turn it back into a single when your youngest is the only one still in a stroller. This Vista V2 features an extendable canopy and a no-rethread harness, which our Lab experts explain "make it simple to adjust the shoulder straps as your child grows taller." Reversible seats mean your kids can be parent-facing or facing the outside world. Our experts say to keep in mind that folding, lifting and storing this stroller requires extra effort compared with lightweight strollers .

BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie Double Jogging Stroller

Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie Double Jogging Stroller

This double stroller is a top choice for joggers for a few reasons: It features m ountain bike-style suspension and giant wheels , which help deliver a smooth ride even on challenging terrain.

Our reviewers have agreed on this claim, though they note that having "real" wheels makes this a heavy stroller. We've had plenty of reviewers who don't actually run with the Duallie but appreciate it for an outdoorsy lifestyle; this is great for walking trails and parks. Lock the front wheel if you want to walk or jog sure and straight; unlock and let it swivel if you'll be in town making twists and turns.

In addition to the wide basket, this stroller includes 10 storage pockets, perfect for stashing adult and kid water bottles, sunscreen and wipes. Each seat reclines separately, and they're designed with compression padding for the kids. Extra-large UPF 50+ canopies feature peek-through windows.

Evenflo Pivot Xplore All-Terrain Stroller Wagon

Pivot Xplore All-Terrain Stroller Wagon

Depending on the parents' preference, the Pivot Xplore can transform from stroller to wagon and back by simply flipping the handle. Each seat features a protective canopy cover, and there's a child tray in the middle for two to share snacks and toys.

The wagon can accept one infant car seat (sold separately) and offers plenty of storage room. It's amazing for days at the beach, park or zoo; for parades or festivals; and for making your way through a farmers' market or street fair. Unfortunately, it does not meet Disney park requirements; the company frowns on guests bringing something this large.

Reviewers like that this stroller wagon is more affordable than most. In our tests, we found that babies and toddlers alike enjoy the setup of facing a sibling or friend, and we found that older children can hop in and out without a problem. Though we named this the best overall stroller wagon, if you're interested in this style you might want to check out all of our other favorite stroller wagons too.

Joovy Caboose Ultralight Sit and Stand Double Stroller

Caboose Ultralight Sit and Stand Double Stroller

Joovy strollers have been proven to perform well in our Lab tests — the brand is known for making sturdy strollers on strong aluminum frames. For this particular model, one child sits in the forward-facing seat while an older child can sit or stand on the rear platform or bench seat . It also comes with a universal car seat adapter if you prefer that your youngest baby ride in their car seat, making this a great choice for a newborn and a toddler.

Our lead tester who used this double stroller says, "My toddler was chatty, and I could keep strolling, rather than stopping, and attend to whatever she wanted to tell me, because she could face me and talk. Meanwhile, my baby was happy with the wide seat and snack tray."

She noted, however, that this stroller requires a wider turning radius than other, more nimble double strollers, and the basket is hard to reach (you have to shift the rear seat aside for widest access) and also can't hold as much cargo weight as others. On the plus side, there's a huge canopy on the front and an optional roll-up canopy for the back, plus a parent organizer.

Nuna Demi Grow Double Stroller

Demi Grow Double Stroller

Nuna strollers are popular among online reviewers and our Lab experts. The Demi Grow can be converted into 23 different configurations (some require car seat and bassinet attachments, sold separately), but we love that it features a narrower, tandem style, as pictured, a nice option if you're afraid that a side-by-side will feel too wide. You get two seats from the start — no need to buy a second one. Because the seats are identical in size, this is a nice double stroller for twins.

Each seat includes a canopy with a privacy drape that can roll down, plus padded leg cushions for extra support. This 2022 version comes with an extra mesh canopy, too, for better airflow if you live somewhere warm. It also comes with one car seat adapter and a rain cover. Note that the top seat can reverse to face the parent, but the bottom seat can only face forward.

Our Lab tests found it's easy to push, but it takes up more space than other double strollers when folded. The basket gets a little swallowed up by the seats, there's no parent console, and there aren't any pockets. But each seat can hold a child up to 50 pounds, making this a long-lasting choice.

UPPAbaby G-Link 2 Stroller

G-Link 2 Stroller

Because each seat on the G-Link 2 can hold up to 55 pounds and has a long seat back, this is a long-lasting side-by-side double stroller that could be great for two older kids, for twins as they grow or for giving your older child a seat next to your younger kid for many years. In our testing, we loved how easy it is to fold and unfold this stroller, but it does not stand upright when folded, so you have to lay it down in your trunk or at home. Parents can take advantage of the built-in travel handle for easier transport.

The wheels on the G-Link 2 are small and meant for city strolling, not for trails. It features multi-position reclining seats and UPF 50+ sunshades. There's a cup holder for a parent on the back, as well as a storage pocket on the back of each seat, in addition to the wide (if shallow) basket.

Zoe The Twin+

The Twin+

Others on our list are also good for Disney, but our reviewers called this stroller out as specifically convenient to use at the airport and for trips to theme parks. It's lightweight at 19 pounds, folds down easily into a remarkably small shape and meets Disney park requirements . One reviewer who brought it to the theme parks said, "It was a breeze to set up and carry." The brand also makes a similar stroller with three seats for toddlers that our team found quite innovative.

Note that the basket under the seats is small. But we appreciate the one-parent cup holder and the canopies that are more generously sized than those on most other lightweight doubles. The sunshades have peekaboo windows too. The leatherette bumper bars are a nice touch, and the seats recline separately. The wheels are not for tough terrain but do well in cities and, of course, theme parks.

Chicco Cortina Together Double Stroller

Cortina Together Double Stroller

Each of the two seats on the Cortina Together can take a Chicco infant car seat, as shown, without any extra adapters, making it suitable from birth for twins (though you'll need to buy the Chicco KeyFit car seats separately). The basket is one of our favorites because there's a zipper you can open for access that also helps prevent anything from falling out. It also has an easy fold, and, when folded, it stays standing up.

When this stroller is used as two seats, the child in the rear does have somewhat limited visibility, since the rear seat is not raised far above the front one. There's a parent console with a cup holder, and the front kid seat has two cup holders as well. Take note, though, that it's heavy, clocking in at 34 pounds.

How we test double strollers

good housekeeping stroller testing pinch test

The Good Housekeeping Institute 's engineering and parenting pros have reviewed 30 double strollers in the last seven years. We ask each manufacturer to provide American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) certification to verify that its stroller passed ASTM's safety standards . We then perform in-Lab and at-home tests to look at maneuverability, ease of pushing and turning, stability, ease of reclining the stroller, ease of getting the babies in and out of the stroller, ergonomics for the parents pushing the stroller, storage space and more. To accomplish this, we push the strollers over varied terrain, including pavement, grass, dirt and cobblestone, and we make obstacle courses to evaluate effort required and stability capabilities . In this picture, you can see how we double-check for pinch points, which could cause accidents. We identify potentially hazardous finger hot spots by placing a test probe or pencil between the frames and hinges of the hoods. If the probe comes into contact with the hinges or frame and prevents the hood from fully folding or unfolding, the stroller is considered hazardous.

What to look for when shopping for the best double stroller

linebreak

As you're deciding on the best double stroller to buy, keep these things in mind:

✔️ Car seat compatibility: Although most strollers today are car seat compatible, always double-check the user guide to make sure. (Most need car seat adapters or work only with certain brands.)

✔️ Size, maneuverability and purpose: Are you hoping to take your little ones with you while jogging? Do you need a double stroller that can easily fit through narrow aisles? Are you only on sidewalks, or do you sometimes go on park trails? Do you need to take your double stroller on an airplane? How you plan to use your stroller will help dictate the features that are most important for you.

✔️ C onvertibility: Unless you have twins, there will likely come a time when you only need to push your youngest around. Modular, convertible strollers let you remove or add seats at your convenience, so your double stroller can transform into a single. Convertible strollers are great for a growing family, but they tend to cost more than other models and aren't as practical for a set of twins.

✔️ Your children's ages: Make sure that your children are in the right age and weight range to help ensure their safety. If you have two infants, or an infant and a toddler, or are planning on more children in the future, different models are better for different ages.

Do you really need a double stroller?

doubleline

If you're going to be schlepping around more than one kiddo, many parents find a double stroller to be a great investment. Ever tried to push two separate strollers at one time? We don't recommend. And even though you can strap a tiny sibling into an infant carrier while you push the oldest, that gets tiresome after a few months because it's hard to bend down and tend to your eldest while wearing your youngest.

Double strollers are great for keeping little ones accounted for, as well as saving space in your car or while you're on the go. With narrow tandem stroller designs or versatile side-by-side buggies that help you keep an eye on everyone at the same time, you can brave the grocery aisle, the park and almost anywhere else with only one set of hands .

And for those who have an older kid on the cusp of walking on their own, or for parents who want the flexibility of having a single stroller too, some double strollers offer the option to remove one of the seats when not in use, so you don't have to worry about buying both a single and a double stroller separately.

How to choose the best double stroller for you

linebreak

Here are a few types of double strollers to know about before you go shopping:

  • Side-by-side stroller : This is the traditional double stroller style. As the name suggests, the stroller seats are lined up right next to each other. This is a great option if you want to keep an eye on both children at once. These kinds of double strollers also seem to have the slimmest fold. But keep in mind that side-by-side strollers are wider and often more difficult to squeeze through narrow spaces, like store aisles. They do fit through double doors for commercial establishments but can be a harder squeeze at home if you have a single door that doesn't open wide.
  • Tandem stroller: In this style, one child rides in front and the other rides in back. Often, they face the same direction, but some modular tandem strollers let you change the direction, especially of the top seat. This can be a great option for kids who bother each other — for instance, if you're worried that your toddler will keep touching their baby sibling or that your two close-in-age kids will tussle over toys or personal space.
  • Sit-and-stand stroller: Families with a newborn and an older child can benefit the most from this style of stroller. It typically includes a rear platform or seat for an older child to ride along in the back. A sit-and-stand stroller is a great choice for big toddlers and preschoolers, who can easily hop on and off the back seat.
  • Wagon stroller: This type of stroller is a great alternative to a double stroller. They provide a push-and-pull mechanism that other strollers lack. Wagon strollers still feature storage pockets, harnesses and even snack trays for convenience. But they're large and do not fold up small.
