London north eastern (lner) trains.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has taken over all existing East Coast routes from the now defunct Virgin Trains as of June 24th, 2018.

While this is a change in train operators, customers who currently use the network will not be affected by the switch. All advanced and season tickets and travel vouchers purchased with Virgin Trains East Coast are still valid and train times will run as normal, but with better customer service and punctuality.

London North Eastern Railway takes you further. From the North East, Yorkshire , to the East Coast and to the far reaches of Scotland, LNER makes connecting to various parts of UK smooth and hassle-free.

London North Eastern Railway provide the fastest and most direct link between the Capital and the North East of England. Direct trains to London can be reached from Leeds , Glasgow and Edinburgh up to 4 times a day. The routes served by LNER are journeys from London King's Cross to Hull , Leeds , Harrogate , York , Newcastle , Edinburgh , Glasgow , Inverness and Aberdeen .

With journey times taking under 5 hours from London King’s Cross to Edinburgh, train journeys has become a viable and affordable option compared to flights and car travel of the same trip. With scenic views of the British east coast, taking in sights across Yorkshire and Cumbria, train travel on London North Eastern Railway offers a relaxing approach for lengthy journeys to your destination.

Whether you're traveling for work, leisure or a bit of both, find a seat to match. LNER offers different seating classes to suit all budgets.

Many passengers have found that by splitting their LNER train tickets they are able to travel first class for less than they previously paid for a standard class ticket.

LNER Luggage Allowance

LNER allows three items on board per person – a maximum of one small handbag, a carry-on bag and one large suitcase – anything bigger than 80 x 57 x 30cm will get refused. Keep small bags under your seat, and store cabin-style bags in the overhead space above your seat and larger suitcases in luggage racks at the end of the carriage. Pushchairs need to be folded and stored in the designated luggage area. If you’re traveling with a non-folding bike, you’ll need to reserve a space for it before traveling

Splitting your train tickets on LNER Trains is allowed and is when you purchase separate tickets for two or more sectors of the LNER Trains rail route you wish to travel instead of just one more expensive through ticket without affecting your travel options in any way.

Train strikes in May 2024: Full list of dates and lines affected

Rail lines are set for disruption in the week following the first May bank holiday as train drivers at 16 rail companies strike on different days.

Thursday 25 April 2024 10:29, UK

journey planner lner

Train drivers will stage a fresh wave of strikes and overtime bans in May, causing disruption to the rail network.

The strikes are part of a long-running dispute over pay.

Members of Aslef union at 16 rail companies will walk out on different days from 7 to 9 May.

Additionally, all members will refuse to work any overtime from 6 May to 11 May.

Here is a full list of the services affected by strikes and when.

Rail strike dates

Tuesday 7 May

Strikes will affect c2c, Greater Anglia, GTR Great Northern Thameslink, Southeastern, Southern, Gatwick Express and South Western Railway.

Wednesday 8 May

Strikes will affect Avanti West Coast, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Great Western Railway and West Midlands Trains.

Thursday 9 May

Strikes will affect LNER, Northern Trains and TransPennine Express.

Overtime ban dates

From Monday 6 May to Saturday 11 May union members will not work overtime.

Overtime bans, an action short of a strike, means some services may not be running or may be reduced as drivers refuse to work their rest days.

People are advised to check before they travel, as some areas may have no service.

How do strikes and overtime bans affect services?

Strikes tend to mean services on lines where members are participating are extremely affected or cancelled entirely, whereas overtime bans often lead to reduced services.

An underground train pulls into Leicester Square station in central London February 11, 2014. A planned 48-hour strike this week by staff on London's underground rail network which threatened to bring travel misery for millions has been suspended to allow further talks, unions said on Tuesday. REUTERS/Neil Hall (BRITAIN - Tags: POLITICS TRANSPORT BUSINESS EMPLOYMENT)

Are there strikes on the Tube too?

There have been regular strikes on London Underground too recently, and while there aren't any planned walkouts for drivers, customer service managers are set to walk out on Friday 26 April in a dispute over terms and conditions.

There will also be an overtime ban for the customer service managers on the following days:

Monday 29 April

Tuesday 30 April

Wednesday 1 May

Tuesday 2 May

Wednesday 3 May

Thursday 4 May

Friday 5 May

The Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) says the action by its members is likely to cause Tube stations to close at the last minute, including on the Saturday following the strike (27 April), while TfL has said on its website "some stations may need to close at short notice".

Despite the warning, a TfL spokesperson has said they aren't expecting significant disruption.

This action follows strike action taken by the same workers on 10 April, which the TSSA said had a "real impact" with "many stations shut at short notice".

They say they are "extremely concerned" about TfL's 'Stations Changes' proposals.

"We have made it clear that our union will not accept the continued threats to our members' roles, locations, terms, and conditions to stand unchallenged," a TSSA spokesperson said.

"We will continue to take sustained action until London Underground is prepared to negotiate with us in good faith."

Commenting on the impending strikes, a TfL spokesperson said: "We are disappointed that TSSA is continuing with this strike action following a consultation process.

"While we don't expect this action will cause significant disruption, we urge TSSA to continue to work with us to help find a resolution.

"There are no planned job losses as part of these vital changes which will improve the service we provide to customers at our stations."

Why are the strikes still happening?

Aslef rejected a two-year offer of 4% in 2022 and another 4% this year, saying it is way below inflation, and is linked to changes in terms and conditions.

Aslef said train drivers have not had an increase in salary for five years, since their last pay deals expired in 2019.

The union said after its members voted overwhelmingly in February to continue taking industrial action, it asked the train operating companies to hold talks.

General secretary Mick Whelan said the year-old pay offer of 4% and another 4% was "dead in the water".

Error message on my account

There is an error message on the One Click Delay Repay part on my app. It says I need to refresh as the transactions have failed to load. I have done this and also deleted and reinstalled the app but the message is still the same. I have messaged LNER and would like tech support to help but no one seems interested and just keep saying we have not been informed there is a problem on the app. The whole point in me having the app is for convenience and I don’t want to have to manually apply every time I have to ask for a refund. I just want to be able to use the One Click Delay Repay as I have enabled it.

Developer Response ,

Hi Diane, sorry to hear about this. You should have been listened to when you reported the concern. We *have* been informed there's a problem on the app if you've taken the time to tell us there is! Your expectations of the app are correct, it's there for convenience. I'll pass this on to the team and hopefully they'll be in touch soon.
Everyone has their own app these days, but I use this one as I make a journey with them often enough. It's quick & easy to book, & handy to be able to see your tickets straight away, so no faffing with ticket collections, downloading stuff from emails, printing stuff, etc. Would be better if you could look up 2 journeys at the same time, in different 'tabs' or something. For example, I usually book a train from London to up north, but from my local train station I don't book it so I can keep my plans flexible, but it would be handy to see what time the trains are & if I can make a connection. If I put the full journey in from my station to up north, sometimes if just shows the ones with the best connection times, but if you wanna go for a particular time train from London, you have to do a separate journey from your local station to London to check what would get in in time, & then go back to the main journey.

Straightforward

Does what you need it to; simple enough to use. Perks scheme is good. App could be improved by the ability to look at trains *around* a certain date rather than on an exact date - some travel search engines allow this, so you can find the cheapest fare roughly when you want to go and fix your dates accordingly. e.g +/- 3 days of the date you put in. That would be helpful for many customers. At the moment you have to do multiple searches to get that info. Aside from this, a fairly good app.
