In addition, they have name entertainment to make the viewing that much more interesting. And it is all for a good cause, the Gateway program helping developmentally delayed adults. About the festival headliner - Pablo Cruise

Pablo Cruise is an American pop/rock band from San Francisco currently composed of David Jenkins (guitar and vocals), Cory Lerios (keyboards and vocals), Sergio Gonzalez (drums) and Larry Antonino (bass and vocals). Formed in 1973, the band released eight studio albums over the next decade, during which time five singles reached the top 25 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The group underwent several personnel changes and split up in 1986. The original lineup—Jenkins, Lerios, Price and Bud Cockrell—reunited briefly in 2004, and the group continues to tour today with two out of the original four members present.

A Benefit Celebration of Rock & Roll and Custom & Classic Cars and Trucks

Join Us for the 17th Annual Monterey Rock & Rod Festival (one day) Saturday, June 15, 2024 | 10am to 6pm Custom House Plaza Monterey State Historic Park in beautiful downtown Monterey at Old Fisherman’s Wharf

FEATURING HUNDREDS of 1975 and older classic and custom hot rods, street rods, muscle cars, and trucks along with a lineup of great live entertainment, plus food and merchandise vendors. All entries are eligible for Merchant Awards and Best of the West honors. All proceeds go to Gateway Center of Monterey County, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation providing life skills to adults with intellectual disabilities.

FEATURING DENNIS TUFANO

Dennis Tufano is the original “voice” of “The Buckinghams”, the Chicago-based group that scored a string of five Top Ten hits in the late-sixties including, the #1 “Kind of A Drag”; “Don’t You Care”; “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy”; “Hey Baby, They’re Playing Our Song”; “Susan”; and “Back In Love Again”. Following his success with the Buckinghams, Dennis was part of the song-writing duo “Tufano and Giammarese” and recorded three albums with Lou Adler’s custom label, Ode Records . Appearing as guest vocalist he went on to co-write with renowned composer and musician Tom Scott. With Scott as composer, Dennis performed the “original title/theme song” for the long running “Family Ties” television show. Dennis also wrote the music and performed with Bernie Taupin, Elton John’s lyricist, on Taupin’s album, “He Who Rides The Tiger” . Subsequently he teamed again with Taupin to co-write, co-produce and perform the Farm Dogs album “Last Stand In Open Country”. Back on the road , Dennis joined with Olivia Newton-John on her hugely successful tour and was featured, with her, on the HBO Special in two dramatically inspired duets. As an actor , Dennis has worked in film, television, radio and commercials.

THE 2024 EVENT is limited to 150 registered cars and is open to 1975 and older American cars, trucks, European classics, and National Car Club Vehicles ONLY. All entries are eligible for Merchant Awards and Best of the West honors. Registered participants must be 18 years or older. Proof of insurance and DMV Registration on the registered car(s) will be required at Event Check-in. Entry fee is $80.00 for first car (Additional cars are $30).

After a 20-year hiatus, Pablo Cruise is bringing more energy and excitement to the stage with their down-to-earth vocals accompanied by fun, infectious grooves.  Since 1975, they appeared on numerous TV shows, including Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, The Merv Griffin Show, The Dinah Shore Hour and in 1979 they broke Elvis Presley’s attendance record at the Sahara Tahoe in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada, becoming the first rock band to play a casino showroom. Having completed several national tours and releasing 7 studio albums, the band is back to playing their passions in the American Pop Rock world. To hear Pablo Cruise on record is one thing, but to experience the band live is an exhilarating event!

In 1975 Pablo Cruise released its first A&M album simply entitled Pablo Cruise. The album cover was shot in the tropical gardens of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, and it featured a huge gorilla standing front and center. The band, David Jenkins (guitars, vocals), Cory Lerios (keyboards, vocals), Bud Cockerel (bass, vocals) and Steve Price (drums, percussion) were nowhere in sight. At that point there was a bit of a mystique surrounding Pablo Cruise and when asked what Pablo Cruise meant, the well-rehearsed answer went something like this: “Pablo”, represents an honest, real, down to earth individual, and “Cruise” depicts his fun-loving, easy-going attitude towards life: In essence that’s what Pablo Cruise music is all about.
