I’ve teamed up with Trick Chassis to bring you guys the kit everyone has been looking for! Complete long travel front suspension package for your g-body or s10. This will include the following parts to make getting more travel, control, and tuning options for your rides front suspension! 

- Trick Chassis new no prep upper control arms. Featuring thicker wall tubing, no limiter cross brace, and ultra low friction 1” extended ball joints

- Trick chassis coil over tubular lower controls arms and hardware kit 

- You’re choice of shock and spring combo. (all kits will go out with 14” 250lb springs, as this is the best starting point for the combo and can be changed/ fine tuned if needed down the road) 

- All shocks will come with hardware kit, thrust bearing kit, and spanner wrench kit 

- NBI bolt on long travel shock brackets and needed hardware 

This kit can take your chassis with stock parts and make it a long travel setup the same day! Everything needed is included in the kit

(bump steer kits must be ordered separately as most cars now days have rack and pinion and don’t need the kit)

*Yes the shock towers will clear factory steering shaft 

*I also recommend welding the shock brackets to the frame if able. They do just fine bolted and have been race/ road tested but welding them on is always a great precaution!

Is the 2022 Chevy Tahoe a Good Road Trip Car? We Drive Nearly 2,000 Miles to Find Out

• We covered 940 miles in our long-term 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe on a road trip to Oregon.
• For the most part, the Tahoe proved to be a great for long-distance excursions.
• The front seats are comfy for long drives but rows two and three are not.

Full-size SUVs are perfect for road trips thanks to their ample interior space and sizable cargo holds. We’ve driven our long-term 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe on several long trips already, and I decided to put it to the test one more time. On this trip, my family traversed over 940 miles from Los Angeles to McMinnville, Oregon. Most of our time was on Interstate 5 where the road ascends, descends and weaves through the mountains. We packed the Tahoe with six passengers, including a child in a baby seat, leaving us with one empty seat in the third row. Our goal was to evaluate the Tahoe’s comfort, storage space and performance.

A pleasing interior, except for the back seats

Our long-term Tahoe has over 20,000 miles on its odometer now, but it has a different character on short commutes versus extended drives. I consider comfort one of the most important considerations of any good road trip vehicle. Our route was going to take us over 13 hours, excluding pit stops along the way. So being cozy was a big deal.

My family felt the Tahoe's front seats were comfortable, while the two rear rows were not so much. Those seats felt cushy enough to keep everyone happy at the start of the trip. However, as time marched forward and miles amassed, passengers in the two rear rows grew uncomfortable. Through the course of the trip, we rotated passengers into each row so that everyone had a chance to experience the different paddings. The consensus was what you might expect. The front seats were definitely the most comfortable in the cabin, followed by the second-row captain's chairs. We agreed that the second and third rows were not suitable for adults on a trip as long as ours. Thankfully, the Tahoe is so spacious that it granted passengers the opportunity to stretch and reposition themselves in their seats in order to minimize the strain.

In-cabin noise was not an issue on the highway. The Tahoe’s insulation, in tandem with a great HVAC system, kept the interior calm and isolated from outside conditions. Cabin atmosphere was consistently pleasant and the numerous windows allowed for natural lighting to illuminate the cabin well. The suspension wasn’t the most compliant on bumpy surfaces, but at highway speeds it really did not bother us too much.

Does the Tahoe have sufficient space for road trips?

Our Tahoe is definitely spacious. We inspected the cargo area behind the third row before heading out to see if our luggage would fit. Chevrolet lists the cargo capacity behind the last row at 25.5 cubic feet. For us, that translated to almost enough room since we did have to stack bags on top of others. It would have been nice to fold the third row flat for more storage, if only we didn't have passengers sitting there.

We utilized free space around the passengers to place belongings that didn’t fit behind the third row. There is ample room between the second-row captain's chairs and for smaller items in front of them. It didn't matter that we had an adult in one seat and a baby seat in the other. The center console up front granted us an additional bin for snacks and those assorted articles needed for a long drive. This cabin is all about road trip utility.

The Tahoe proved to be a superb road trip hauler

We were pleased with the overall experience inside the Tahoe, but some of that has to be credited to the driving performance of the SUV. Our Tahoe weighed in at 5,807 pounds but all that mass did not hinder this bruiser from feeling manageable on different roads. The 5.3-liter V8 felt strong overall and really only sounded strained during a few climbs. Throughout our trip, we fueled the Tahoe a few times and the best we averaged was 16.7 mpg.

From a ride comfort perspective, the ride quality on the streets of Oregon was fine, ranging from decent to smooth. It didn't matter if the vehicle was loaded full of passengers and luggage or it was just the driver riding solo. Nevertheless, the Tahoe’s suspension felt pleasantly balanced throughout our trip.

We drove our 2022 Tahoe a little over 940 miles in about 15 hours and we genuinely felt satisfied with how capable it was. We don’t think the seats are the most comfortable to be in for an extended period of time but they’re bearable if you rearrange sitting positions and take breaks. The drive from LA to Oregon was beautiful and the Tahoe made for a fine ride.

Lifted Chevy Malibu Off Road Build on Blazer K5 Chassis with 33″ Wheels

One of the last things that you’d expect to see on the roads of busy Moscow city downtown is a boxy silhouette of an old school American sedan from the mid-eighties. What can surprise you even more is the fact that this lifted Chevy Malibu is rolling on giant 33″ tires just above the traffic jam. No, it’s not another donk with candy paint and skinny tires – it’s a menacing machine on massive off-road wheels with a full face grille and hidden headlights. It twists necks everywhere it goes and it would definitely get equal attention in any part of the world, whether it’s Moscow, Berlin, Tokyo, Dubai or LA.

Alexey from Gorilla Garage had acquired a 1989 Chevy Malibu sedan that had been sitting in his garage, waiting patiently for years to be restored to its former glory. As a long-time fan and collector of iconic American iron, Alexey finally felt inspired to take on the project when he came across a rugged 1985 Chevy Blazer K5 with a military surplus history.

The square body K5 immediately conjured up images in Alexey’s mind of lifted cars / street machines from the 70s and 80s, jacked up on monster truck tires and roaring down the open road. He began to envision creating the ultimate head-turning Frankenstein’s monster by mating the Blazer’s sturdy chassis and off-road capability with the sleek, retro style of the Malibu.

Chevy Malibu on K5 Chassis

At first glance, the K5 seemed like the perfect solution to get the Malibu off the ground. But this would be no simple bolt-on affair. Alexey and his team at Gorilla Garage faced serious fabrication challenges in merging the two vehicles into one cohesive build:

• The firewall and transmission tunnel had to be completely re-engineered to accommodate the K5’s larger 5-liter V8 motor and 4×4 drivetrain. This allowed no room for the Malibu’s original A/C system.
• New engine mounts, steering linkages and brake lines all had to be custom made to adapt the chassis to the Malibu body.
• Heavy duty suspension components were added to support the weight of the car on the Blazer frame.
• The Malibu’s factory steering and brake systems were far too undersized for the scale of the project, so donor parts from the K5 Blazer were used instead.
• To achieve the desired monster truck look, enormous 33 inch all-terrain tires replaced the stock rubber.

Lifted Malibu

With the chassis and powertrain sorted out, Alexey could turn his attention to the finer details that would make the Malibu K5 mashup his own vision.

• The front grille was redesigned to seamlessly integrate the Blazer’s front end styling cues.
• A side-exit exhaust system with dual pipes was fabbed up to hug the K5 frame rails and accentuate the lifted profile.
• A flat army green paint job with black accents added to the rugged, utilitarian vibe.
• The interior remained largely stock for a retro 80s feel, but with upgraded modern audio.

The End Result: A Show-Stopping Daily Driver

After countless hours of intensive fabrication over nearly 4 years, Alexey’s outrageous automotive experiment was finally complete. Despite all the custom work required, the amalgamation of Malibu and Blazer performed flawlessly.

The reborn “Hard Rock” lifted Chevy Malibu K5 became Alexey’s daily driver, turning heads on the streets of Moscow and winning awards on the local car show circuit. This brilliant Frankenstein machine stood out even in crowded Russian traffic, its military toughness and American muscle exuding a powerful stage presence.

The whole fabrication process took about 4 years and now this Chevy Malibu on Blazer K5 chassis with a nickname “HARD ROCK” serves its owner as a daily driver and an ultimate head-turner on the streets of Moscow and at local car shows.

UPPER ARMS Our  upper arms are made from 1.5” .120w 4130 tubing and 3/16” 4130 plate with high grade ¾ rod ends at the frame pivots. We also changed the frame pivots and put them on tabs on top of the frame and raising the spindle 6” to eliminate some of the drastic camber and caster angles that you get when getting up to 18” of wheel travel. We also integrated an upper arm bump pad for hydraulic bump stop’s. 

LOWER ARMS Our  boxed lower arm made from laser cut 1/8” 4130 steel Using 1” stainless steel uniballs at the frame pivot and 1” uniball at the spindle. This kit comes set up so that you can run a coil over, bypass shock and bump stop if wanted. (coil overs are a must.. we do not build a torsion bar set up)

SPINDLE This kit uses the stock spindle but we supply you with a 3/16 4130 plate bolt on 6”extension that houses a stainless steel vertical stainless steel 1” uniball.  We will be offering a full custom spindle in the future.

AXLE KIT Custom 300m axles using the stock outer and for the inner we have a 6061 aluminum adapter that bolts to the stock cv flange. We use a non plunging high grade 930 cv allowing for up to 18” of wheel travel.

Long Travel Kit

 Description

The Dirt King long travel kit was developed to drastically improve the vehicles off-road handling without compromising its day to day driving characteristics. This suspension system allows for 12” of travel and accepts up to a 37” tire. The kit is compatible with 2WD models and 4WD models along with the purchase of extended axle shafts. We upgraded the ball joints to heavy duty Moog joints for maximum strength and increased articulation . The lower arms have recessed shock mounting allowing 8" coil overs to fit without any modifications. This kit is CAD designed, thoroughly tested, and 100% made in America resulting in a product we’re proud to put our name on!

Options This suspension system allows for several different options to suit your needs. The 2.5” x 8” coil over can be installed with one of the following options, sway bar, bump stops, or bypass shocks. We offer a sway bar kit that adapts our long travel kit to work with the factory sway bar. This will give the vehicle similar on road driving characteristics to stock with minimal sacrifice to the suspension systems performance. The next option is installing bump stops. They will help dampen hard impacts and are cost effective but on the other hand are often noisy. The last option is most commonly used. Adding bypass shocks will fine tune the damping throughout the suspension cycle. They are also completely adjustable to perfect the ride quality. 

Shocks For the best performance and to achieve the full amount of travel you must purchase our spec built coil over shocks or have them custom built based on our shock spec sheet. In addition, our long travel kit is tabbed to accommodate bypass shocks.  The bypass shocks will allow for superior suspension dampening and tunability. To mount the bypasses we offer a weld on bypass shock hoop kit (DK-631910) that can be purchased separately. The bypass shock hoop kit requires welding and modifications to the frame. You have the option of installing 2.5” diameter by 8” stroke bypass shocks or 3.0” diameter by 8” stroke bypass shocks.

Wheel Travel When shopping long travel kits many consumers tend to focus just on travel numbers. This is the reason many companies claim inaccurate numbers or don’t disclose the amount of work involved to achieve these numbers. Our goal is to build a suspension system with the highest amount of wheel travel without requiring major modifications to the vehicle or compromising its overall drivability.

Tire Info When installing 37” tires with this kit you must modify the wheel wells to avoid contact at full bump. We have solved this problem by developing complete bolt on front wheel wells for proper tire clearance. The firewall pinch weld will also need to be folded over to clear the 37” tires.

Shipping & Delivery Dirt King ships their products within the United States and Internationally. Most products ship via UPS or USPS. Orders that exceed $500 require a signature confirmation. On bulk orders contact Dirt King for a freight quote. The customer is responsible for import taxes and fees on international shipments.

Damaged or Missing Parts In an instance where you receive a damaged package a claim must be made with Dirt King. The claim can be submitted by sending an email to [email protected] containing photos of the damaged packages and damaged products. The email must also include your order number as well. Do not discard any of the original packaging or try installing the products.

While every precaution is taken there could be a case where you are missing parts. If this happens please send an email to [email protected] with your order number, list of missing parts, photo of the package or packages, and a photo of the quality control tag located on the back of the box.

If the shipping carrier losses your package please contact Dirt King. A claim will be filled with the shipping carrier. Unfortunately, we do not have much control over this situation and must wait for the carrier to process the claim.

Freight Shipping The customer must contact Dirt King to arrange for freight shipping. Dirt King will palletize the order and the customer can deal directly with the freight carrier if preferred. The shipment can be delivered to a home or business. The customer must be present for the delivery to inspect and sign for the package. Before signing confirm that you received all items listed on the packing slip and nothing is damaged. If you receive damaged parts or are missing parts leave a note on the bill of landing and sign it. Make sure the driver is aware of the situation and signs your copy of the bill of landing with the noted damages or missing parts. Once you have taken possession of the package file a claim with Dirt King by sending an email to [email protected]. Please include your order number, copy of your bill of landing, and photos of the damaged items or list of missing parts. Do not discard any of the original packaging or try installing the products. Dirt King will do everything possible to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

• Returns are only accepted within 30 days.
• Product must have been purchased from us and not a dealer.
• A 3% processing fee is deducted from all refunds.
• On shipped orders   a 7% restocking fee and a  3% processing fee is deducted from all refunds.
• Products such as bumpers, hitches, and bed cages that have optional powder coat added are subject to a 7% restocking fee and a 3% processing fee. If the order is canceled before the product is powder coated then the 7% restocking fee can be waived.
• On shipped orders we are not responsible for return shipping or refunding the original shipping amount.
• Parts must be returned in the original package and condition as they were sent.
• No returns on items that have been damaged or installed.
• Refund will be issued once the parts have been received and inspected.
• Custom products are non refundable.
• Crypto orders will be refunded the same coin amount that was paid originally.
