Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” concert film premiered in October to an enthusiastic crowd of celebrities, fans and of course Taylor’s team, with the star of the film in attendance. As one of the first to see the film, TheWrap got the scoop on which songs from the wildly popular tour made the film, and which songs were cut.

After making speeches in multiple auditoriums for separate audiences, Swift, clad in a sky blue floral-patterned dress (probably in theme for “1989 (Taylor’s Version) with her hair pinned up like the signature bob she had when that album first came out), sat back to enjoy the film’s premiere in one of the IMAX screening rooms with her background vocalists and publicist Tree Paine.

The documentary runs 2 hours and 48 minutes, slightly shorter than Swift’s three-hour setlist and performance, which she has brought to 17 of the United States so far in addition to Mexico. The European leg will kick off in November, with Swift returning for 15 more U.S. shows in October and November of 2024. And now you can rent “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” on digital to watch at home. Read on for the 41 songs that made the cut to truly represent all 10 of Swift’s eras.

Now that the film is heading exclusively to Disney+ for streaming , additional acoustic surprise songs will make it into the film, all of which were filmed during the Los Angeles SoFi shows.

Taylor Swift ‘The Eras’ Tour: Pop Star Performs ‘Midnight Rain’ Literally Under the Rain at 1AM [WATCH]

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is in the middle of touring across the United States for her "The Eras" series of concerts, and despite the bad weather, the show must go on for the pop star as she proceeded to perform under the rain.

According to Hollywood Life , the singer took the stage of the Nissan Stadium, which has an open roof, on May 7, for her third and last show in Nashville, Tennessee, but fans were somewhat disappointed because it rained that evening.

At first, many were skeptical if the concert would push through as it was delayed for hours due to lightning and thunderstorms around the area.

Fans finally got a ray of hope when the rain stopped, which is a go signal for Swift to start performing. However, more than an hour into her set, the rain started pouring down again.

Even though her costumes, stage, and musical instruments got wet, the "Paper Rings" hitmaker still proceeded with the show as it was safe for her to perform because there was no lightning.

Since "The Eras" tour has an estimated running time of three hours, then there was a delay due to the weather in Nashville, a video taken from the event revealed that the final show at the Nissan Stadium ended at around 2 a.m. (via Pop Crave)

In addition, she also performed "Mine" as a surprise song and played her hit track "Midnight Rain" from "Midnights" literally under the rain.

Taylor Swift is a 'mastermind' on Eras Tour -- even in the 'midnight' rain

by LIZ BATESON | WJAR

When Taylor Swift said “meet me in the pouring rain,” she meant it.

The pop superstar took a sold-out, 70,000 person crowd through a journey of 17 years of music at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts Saturday night -- in downpours.

The midnight rain didn’t stop her , as she showcased her evolution as an artist during a 3.5 hour setlist made up of 45-songs from each era of her music.

Opening acts Gayle and Phoebe Bridgers took the stage first. Gayle showcased her grit and universality with a poprock sound, performing classics like “Bennie and the Jets” and more modern music, like her hit song “abcedfu.”

Phoebe Bridgers changed the pace with an indie folk sound, performing songs like “Motion Sickness“ and “I Know The End" that highlight her raw talent and lyricism. Bridgers, whom Swift said is one of the "best songwriters and coolest artists", would later come back on stage with Swift to perform their duet “Nothing New.”

It was then time for the much-anticipated event: The Taylor Takeover.

She kicked things off with 2019’s Lover album, which may have been a nod to the tour being cancelled a few cruel summers ago due to the pandemic. In a bedazzled bodysuit and studded boots, Swift sang hits like “The Man,” “Lover” and “The Archer."

The next stop was Fearless, an album she described as a journey “back to high school.” Fearless was released when Swift was just 18-years old and became her first number one album, spending 11 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200.

Paying ode to that breakthrough moment in time for her, Swift got the crowd jumping on their feet with performances of “You Belong With Me” and “Love Story.”

The stage then transformed into a forest for her Evermore era. Evermore is the sister album to Swift’s pandemic-release album Folklore.

Swift told the crowd she was nervous about chatter that stadium tours would never bounce back post-pandemic, but rather than mull on that, she decided to make art to “try to connect” with her fans.

She certainly did just that. Keeping the stadium on their feet through the rain, fans stayed captivated with her heartfelt songs like “Marjorie” and “Willow.” Both songs are poetic and retrospective in tone.

During this setlist, Swift took the time to reflect on her journey with Foxborough fans, telling the crowd the first time she ever “experienced a rain show was in this stadium.”

She added, “the whole day it was going to rain and my team and I, we really didn’t know what that meant for the crowd because in my mind that meant, ‘the crowd is going to want to have a nice evening, therefore, they are not going to want to get rained on the whole night, right?’

Instead, she recalls how the crowd didn’t shy away from the raindrops and she says that's taught her a lesson she’s taken with her on every tour since: “The fans and crowds in the New England, Boston, Foxborough, Massachusetts area do not care if it rains. Instead, that kind of makes it more fun for you!”

In perhaps the biggest show of her evolution as an artist, Swift then takes us to her Reputation era. The album is known to be categorized as her rebellious era and her performances depicted just that.

Sporting a black and red asymmetrical bodysuit with a snake projected on the jumbotron, she energized the crowd with songs like “Look What You Made Me Do,” “Delicate” and “Are You Ready For It?”

It’s a stark contrast from her Speak Now era, which came next. Swift performed just one song from that album, “Enchanted,” in a sparkling ball gown.

From there, it’s on to Red. This era captures a bouncy, young and carefree era of Swift. She performed hit songs like “22,” “We Are Never Getting Back Together” and “I Knew You Were Trouble.”

She told the crowd how important it is for her to own her own music, which is why she’s re-recording all of her old albums. Swift is known to release “vault tracks”whenever she does so, which are songs that didn’t make the album the first go around. She decides to release them years later to give fans the "full picture" of that moment in time.

One of her most popular vault tracks has been “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)". Swift, joking with the crowd, asked if they had 10 minutes to spare as she performed that heartfelt, achingly beautiful track that represents the nostalgia and pain that comes with love lost.

It was then to a cabin in the woods for Folklore. This album really depicts the evolution of Swift, as she tells the crowd she went from writing eerily honest songs about her own life and experiences, to making up fictional storylines, hence the title Folklore.

This era was one of her longer set lists, performing songs like “Cardigan” and “Betty.” She also paid ode to her Watch Hill house, performing “The Last Great American Dynasty” in front of a coastal backdrop depicting the beautiful Rhode Island beaches.

She then seamlessly transitioned to an earlier era in time, 1989. Named after the year she was born, this album represents her transition to pop music, proving that Swifties stay loyal to her music no matter the genre.

This era was met with upbeat energy, with the backdrop depicting a cityscape as Swift dawned a lime green, sparkly two piece. She performed choreography alongside her back-up dancers (again, in the pouring rain) to hit songs like “Blank Space” and “Shake It Off.”

This led to a much-anticipated moment from all of Swift’s tours: her two surprise songs.

For night two at Foxborough, the surprise songs were “Question...?” off her latest album Midnights. Swift played an acoustic version of this, stopping a few lines in to soak in the moment, literally, telling the crowd “it’s really raining" and declaring it the "rainiest" rain show.

She then decided to change gears and performed the song "Invisible" off her very first album. Swift was stripped of the colorful lights, choreography and vibrant backdrops. Instead, it was just her, a piano and her powerful vocals, proving she really can do it all.

Switching gears once again, she put on a fur coat and sparkly t-shirt dress, ending the 3.5 hour marathon performance with songs off her latest album Midnights. The setlist consisted of the popular songs like “Lavender Haze,” “Anti-Hero” and “Bejeweled” before she capped things off with “Karma," as pyrotechnics shot into the night sky.

All in all, it was a triumphant return to touring for Swift.

She's known for her captivating lyrics detailing romantic relationships and the highs and lows that come with them, but the Eras Tour highlighted how much she’s evolved as an artist over the last decade – and how much her fans have stood by her side, rain or shine.

Swift redefines what it means to be an artist. She’s more than a good voice; she is a storyteller, lyricist, performer and musician who continues to reinvent her legacy.

The Eras Tour was a spectacle like no other and "I don't know how it gets better than this." But Swift is a mastermind and will find a way to reinvent the wheel and continue to take her fans on an enchanted journey.

A big thank you to Tree Paine & Dana Lobb with Premium PR who provided the tickets to this event.

Taylor Swift ‘s recent song “Midnight Rain” lived up to its name when it was performed Sunday night at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium, except that it was actually after 1 a.m. local time when it finally came up in the set list. The finale of her hometown three-night stand was pushed back hours from its scheduled start time due to lightning strikes near the downtown area; once it did finally get underway after 10 p.m., the second half of the three-and-a-half-hour set was marked by a steady downpour, hitting Swift as hard as it did the audience in the roofless venue, before the show finally wrapped up just after 1:35 a.m.

Popular on Variety

Later, as the downpour didn’t let up, during the “Red”-themed portion of the show, she said, “This is something we’re all doing together. It’s like such a bonding experience. We’re all gonna leave here tonight looking like we just went through five car washes… People will be like, ‘Where were you? Several wars?’ And you’re like, ‘No, I just went to the Eras Tour . It’s fine.'”

As the clock neared 1 a.m., Swift launched into the penultimate “surprise songs” segment of the show, for which she was joined by a special guest, a co-writer and co-producer on her last three albums, the National’s Aaron Dessner , to play a second guitar on the “Midnights” bonus track “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve.” Making the long walk from the main stage to the B-stage in the middle of the stadium, Dessner, too, quickly looked waterlogged.

Dessner was up for the memorable occasion. “I was lucky to see other shows on this tour, but in the rain it’s even better,” he claimed.

The show was scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., as it has at every other stop on the tour, with two opening acts preceding a Swift set that usually lasts from about 7:50 till about 11:15. In Nashville Sunday, though, the show was about an hour from starting when announcements appeared on big screens and on social media warning attendees to shelter in place in the venue’s concourses, or remain in their cars if they had not gone inside yet. That warning remained in place from around 5:30 until around 9:45, at which point lightning left the area — for the time being — and fans were told they should finally take their seats, leading to a human traffic jam through the stadium entryways. By that point, some fatigued families with younger children had already taken their leave.

“Rain shows” are actually well-remembered and prized among some fans who’ve seen her in outdoor stadium settings before, so dampened spirits weren’t much of a problem among those who’d made it through the marathon wait as the show finally got underway at about 10:10 p.m. Opening acts Phoebe Bridgers and Gracie Abrams had long since been bumped from the bill, not surprisingly, with a Swift set that has averaged out at about 220 minutes still to go.

The sight of Swift with a wet head is not unfamiliar (some past tours have ended with her either standing in a waterfall or cavorting with her dancers in a fountain), but the length and extent to which she was out in a downpour along with fans might be unprecedented in her touring life. The singer made a point as things wound down at 1:37 a.m. to ask the crowd to “make some noise for my phenomenal dancers who danced in the rain for you all night. … The fact that you stayed for us, that you gave us everything you had — we love you so much, Nashville. We will never forget this night.”

Lightning did return to the surrounding area before Swift’s show ended, as fan photos and videos showed the sky lighting up in the distance around midnight, but the show was not further halted once it began. Although fans wondered whether curfews or fines might cause Swift’s set to be condensed, Nissan Stadium is city-owned and said not to be subject to the restrictions that might affect other venues — especially when unleashing 70,000 angry Swifties into the wild is a prospect.

One of the fans happy to have waited it out for hours was Siobhan Duden, a 32-year-old middle school teacher from Knoxville who was getting one of her first nights out after having a baby six months ago. “We all came together in this bonding moment, singing songs as we waited for Taylor. Everybody completely embraced it. We were all here for Taylor and knew she would be there for us. While we were waiting amid the shelter-in-place, my friends and I joked that Taylor meant it literally when she said ‘Meet me at midnight.’ We literally would have waited if the show did start at midnight to see her, if that was what it took. When I finally got to my seat, it was super exciting because once you realized how many people stayed through all of that, you knew you were around people like you” with equal tenacity.

For Swift fans wondering how Sunday’s show was different from the two preceding it in Nashville, or any other concerts along the routing so far: “The 1” was back in the set Sunday as the first number of the “Folklore” portion, after “Invisible String” curiously made a one-time reappearance Saturday night. Aside from that one-off, “Invisible String” had last been part of the tour setlist on March 25 in Las Vegas. Fans have widely assumed that it was taken out of the set that early in the tour because its lyrics are full of autobiographical details about her relationship with Joe Alwyn, whom she is known to have split from this year.

(Matty Healy of the 1975, who has been tagged as a possible new beau by British tabloids, was reported to be viewing Sunday’s concert from a covered spot… although, contrary to said tabloids’ predictions, he did not perform with Swift. Healy did strum guitar behind Bridgers during her opening set on Saturday.)

Although Bridgers did not get to perform her planned opening set (which on the first two nights in Nashville had featured cameos from her Boygenius colleagues), fans did at least get to see Bridgers again join Swift during the headliner’s set for the third successive rendition of their duet from “Red (Taylor’s Version),” “Nothing New.” (Bridgers will also be opening all of Swift’s shows through the end of May, before departing to tour with Boygenius starting in June.)

In the “secret songs” segment, Swift prefaced her and Dessner’s performance of “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve” by describing it as “one of our favorite songs we’ve done together… (that) we hear you guys request all the time.” The song, which has been understood as a return to the subject matter of the “Speak Now” track “Dear John,” has been a clear favorite among all the bonus tracks released as part of the “Midnights” deluxe edition last fall. “You knew every word to that,” she said, expressing surprise at the ferocity of enthusiasm for a tune left off the standard edition.

GUYS. pic.twitter.com/wA9hRyyvaU — adam IS SEEING TAYLOR TODAY (@teheadam) May 8, 2023

Swift noted that, although she has discussed 2020’s “Folklore” as being really the first time she wrote extensively in character instead of out of her own performance, that truthfully really started 10 years earlier with the “Speak Now” album. “I wrote the (title) song ‘Speak Now’ about interrupting the wedding of an ex…  I was 19 when I wrote that, and none of my exes were getting married,” she pointed out. “It was so fantasy, so fantastical… my first time thinking in cinematic, ‘This isn’t my life, but what if it were’” terms. The same went for the album-leading single: “When I wrote it, I was writing about all these relationship things that hadn’t happened to me. Like ‘there’s a drawer of my things at your place’… Those are things that I was not partaking in at 19, when I wrote these songs. It’s been a treat to go back and re-record them, because I’m relating to them now. This is called ‘Mine.'”

Fans have puzzled over who “Mine” was about for years, since the lyrical details didn’t seem to have known analogs to real-life events. Now, they may be satisfied to finally know for certain who it’s about: nobody.

Swift resumes her tour Friday in Philadelphia. It may take about that long for some of Sunday night’s attendees to get back on their sleep schedule. As the crawl at the end of one of the fan livestreams read: “Goodnight, good luck to everyone with school tmrw.” A special “good luck” may have been in order for everyone whose phone ran out of battery before connecting with family about pickups in the designated waiting area; Nissan Stadium had advised parents via social media to show up three hours after the actual start time.

Taylor Swift's 'Midnight Rain' is all fans can talk about

By Capital FM

Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’ album has left us all in awe and fans have so many questions about track six, ‘Midnight Rain’.

Taylor Swift day is finally here as we’ve all been treated to Tay’s tenth studio album, ‘Midnights’ , and one track in particular that fans can’t get enough of is ‘Midnight Rain’.

‘Midnight Rain’ is track six of the 13 tunes she shared on the hotly-anticipated album - oh, and let’s not forget the additional seven tracks she surprised us with ‘from the vault’ for her ‘3AM Edition’ of the album.

But what is it about ‘Midnight Rain’ fans can’t stop talking about?

From the mysterious voice singing in the track to the mystery lover Taylor sings about in her lyrics; one thing is abundantly clear - we all have so many questions about track six!

Let’s gather all of the clues…

Taylor Swift drops teaser trailer for Midnights

Taylor Swift's fans can't get enough of 'Midnight Rain'

Who is the mysterious voice singing in Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnight Rain’?

‘Midnight Rain’ features a particularly low voice that features at the start of the song and returns at every chorus.

Of course, it didn’t take Swifties long to question who the mysterious voice belonged to, with many wondering if it was still her voice but with added effects.

After many rushed to Twitter to question who it could be, a source close to Tay herself confirmed to  Uproxx that it still is the songstress.

“That is Taylor’s voice pitched down on Midnight Rain,” they explained.

Fans have wondered who the mysterious voice is on 'Midnight Rain'

Who is Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnight Rain’ about?

Another question on Swifties’ lips is who her lover in ‘Midnight Rain’ is.

Over on TikTok, there's plenty of theories about who 'Midnight Rain' is about, with many claiming it's about Tom Hiddleston, especially because of the reference to: "Jumping off things in the ocean" which fans think could be about the viral photos of the former couple larking about in the sea – the day he wore a 'I [heart] T.S.' top.

In the track, Taylor doesn’t just sing about heartbreak in another reflective track, she is, in fact, the one doing the heartbreaking this time.

The lyrics hint at a relationship where she appears to have chosen her career over that particular romance as she sings:

"Rain/He wanted it comfortable/ I wanted that pain/ He wanted a bride/I was making my own name/Chasing that fame/He stayed the same/All of me changed/Like midnight.”

As she leads into the first verse, Taylor goes on to speak of her hometown, seemingly painting a picture of her life before becoming the superstar phenomenon that she is today.

She describes her hometown as a "wasteland" that was full of "pageant queens and big pretenders," ending it with the highly quotable line, "I broke his heart 'cause he was nice."

Taylor continues to sing of "the life I gave away," hinting her life could have potentially been very different.

[Verse 1] My town was a wasteland Full of cages, full of fences Pageant queens and big pretenders But for some it was paradise My boy was a montage A slow-motion, love potion Jumping off things in the ocean I broke his heart ’cause he was nice

[Chorus] He was sunshine I was midnight rain He wanted it comfortable I wanted that pain He wanted a bride I was making my own name Chasing that fame He stayed the same All of me changed Like midnight…

[Verse 2] It came like a postcard Picture perfect shiny family Holiday peppermint candy But for him it’s every day So I peered through a window A deep portal, time travel All the love we unravel And the life I gave away

[Chorus Variation] ‘Cause he was sunshine I was midnight rain He wanted it comfortable I wanted that pain He wanted a bride I was making my own name Chasing that fame He stayed the same All of me changed Like midnight

[Chorus Variation] Rain He wanted it comfortable I wanted that pain He wanted a bride I was making my own name Chasing that fame He stayed the same All of me changed Like midnight

[Outro] I guess sometimes we all get just what we wanted, just what we wanted And he never thinks of me Except for when I’m on TV I guess sometimes we all get some kind of haunted, some kind of haunted And I never think of him Except on midnights like this… (Midnights like this, midnights like this)

Midnight Rain

2022 song by taylor swift / from wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

" Midnight Rain " is a song by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift , taken from her tenth original studio album, Midnights (2022). Written and produced by Swift and Jack Antonoff , the song has a slow pace, R&B -tinged electropop production. The track is driven by a distorted Moog synthesizer and features Swift's format-shifted vocals at some parts. In the lyrics, the narrator contemplates on a lost love and how she chose her career and fame over a domestic life with an ex-lover.

In Midnights album reviews, some critics found the song captivating, and praised the vocally manipulated hook and nuanced production. A few others found the vocal production off-putting. "Midnight Rain" peaked at number five on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Global 200 . It also charted within the top 10 in Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, and Vietnam; and the top 20 in Iceland, Luxembourg, and South Africa. The song received certifications from Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Swift included the song on the set list of the Eras Tour (2023–2024).

Breaking Down Taylor Swift’s ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart’ Playlist: The Acceptance Stage

Feature Breaking Down Taylor Swift I Can Do It With a Broken Heart Playlist

Taylor Swift is no stranger to heartbreak, meaning she’s also intimately familiar with the healing that comes afterward.

Leading up to the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department , on Friday, April 19, Swift explored the five stages of grief in specially curated Apple Music playlists — with each selection of songs also correlating to one of the variants of her new record. The final playlist, titled “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” reflects the acceptance phase.

“Hey Apple Music, you’ve made it to my ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart’ playlist where we finally find acceptance and can start moving forward from loss or heartbreak,” she said in a voice note introducing the collection. “These songs represent making room for more good in your life, making that choice. Because a lot of times, when we lose things, we gain things too.”

Nearly one year after Us Weekly confirmed her split from Joe Alwyn , Swift announced her 11th album at the 2024 Grammy Awards in February. She referred to writing TTPD as a “lifeline” during an Eras Tour performance later that month. Fans who attended the tour, tuned in to livestreams or watched the Eras Tour concert film may have witnessed Swift channeling another lifeline in the song “You’re on Your Own, Kid.”

The 2022 Midnights hit kicks off the acceptance playlist and has been performed five times as a surprise song throughout the Eras Tour — more than any other. It seemingly became an anthem for Swift’s post-Alwyn chapter and inspired the trend within her fanbase of making friendship bracelets. (Swift’s current boyfriend, Travis Kelce , famously attempted to give her a bracelet with his phone number on it at one of her July 2023 concerts before they began dating, with their love story serving as a perfect example of the lyric, “Everything you lose is a step you take.”)

It’s debated how much of the Midnights album is inspired by Alwyn himself, but it’s clear the duo’s relationship had cracks before they officially called it quits. At the time of their split, a source exclusively told Us that Swift’s fame was a deciding factor. For some listeners, the placement of “Midnight Rain” on the acceptance playlist could hint at a partner’s hesitation to be in the spotlight (or in Swift’s shadow).

“He was sunshine, I was midnight rain / He wanted it comfortable, I wanted that pain / He wanted a bride, I was making my own name / Chasing that fame / He stayed the same / All of me changed like midnight,” she sings in the chorus.

While Swift was already one of the biggest acts in music, her status rose even further throughout her relationship with Alwyn, particularly with the releases of Folklore and Evermore in 2020. When the pair’s romance began, Swift was in hiding following drama with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West — but soon enough, all of her changed. (The sun/rain imagery is also prominent in the Folklore song “Peace” on the bargaining playlist.)

“I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” continues with another Midnights song, “Labyrinth,” which describes the fear of falling too hard, too fast. Swift dropped one of her trademark Easter eggs while delivering a commencement speech at New York University in May 2022, referencing “Labyrinth” lyrics before fans had ever heard them.

“Hard things will happen to us, we will recover, we will learn from it, we will grow more resilient because of it,” she said in May 2022. “As long as we are fortunate enough to be breathing, we will breathe in, breathe through, breathe deep and breathe out.”

Swift is known to leave clues for her fans to decode, and it’s possible one of the biggest came just before news broke of her and Alwyn’s split when she played “The 1” instead of “Invisible String” during the Folklore set of an Eras Tour concert in April 2023. (Swift never addressed the reason for the change, but “The 1” has remained on the setlist ever since.) Both songs appear on the acceptance playlist, along with “August,” which is based on a fictional love triangle and was co-produced by Alwyn.

“What happened in my head was ‘Cardigan’ is Betty’s perspective from 20 to 30 years later, looking back on this love that was this tumultuous thing,” she explained in the 2020 documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions . “In my head, I think Betty and James ended up together. So, in my head, she ends up with him, but he really put her through it.”

“August,” meanwhile, centers James’ summer fling as she accepts, “You were never mine.”

Alwyn was also involved behind the scenes on Swift’s album Evermore , a companion to Folklore . He cowrote the record’s title track with Swift and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, whose vocals are featured as well. “Evermore” begins with the narrator in a period of depression (“Gray November, I’ve been down since July”) that feels inescapable. By the end of the song, however, the tides change.

“And I couldn’t be sure, I had a feeling so peculiar / This pain wouldn’t be for / Evermore,” Swift sings.

Four additional Evermore tracks are featured on the acceptance playlist, including “Happiness,” which shows an appreciation for memories made throughout a relationship despite its ending. “Happiness” zooms out on the relationship from “above the trees,” eventually accepting that not one person is to blame for the pain they’re left with (“I can’t make it go away by making you a villain”). Fans have also noted the irony of Swift writing a sad song with a title that would seemingly imply a positive emotion.

The playlist also includes “Long Story Short,” “Closure” and “It’s Time to Go,” the latter of which reminds the listener (and perhaps Swift herself) to trust their intuition no matter how difficult it feels to leave a situation behind.

“Sometimes, givin’ up is the strong thing / Sometimes, to run is the brave thing / Sometimes, walkin’ out is the one thing / That will find you the right thing,” she sings.

While plenty of these songs are heartbroken ballads, Swift also explores the upside of moving on with Lover ’s “I Forgot That You Existed” and the 1989 (Taylor’s Version) vault track “Now That We Don’t Talk.” Both attempt to find a silver lining in what comes after a breakup.

“I don’t have to pretend I like acid rock / Or that I’d like to be on a mega yacht / With important men who think important thoughts / Guess maybe I am better off / Now that we don’t talk,” she sings.

Including “Daylight” as a soundtrack to acceptance gives a fresh perspective to the fan favorite. When Lover was released in 2019, the song appeared to signify a new relationship brightening Swift’s life after a string of failed romances. Now, it can be argued that leaving that same relationship behind is what helped her “step into the daylight.”

Learning to let go is a lesson Swift has taken to heart. While describing her inspiration for “This Love (Taylor’s Version),” originally released in 2014, Swift spoke candidly about accepting when a relationship has run its course.

“It’s about an experience I’ve had where, if you truly care about someone and you know they’re not fully ready to be in a relationship, you will let them go,” she said in an iHeartRadio interview. “And it sucks to be the one who has to let something go and cut someone loose when you don’t want to, but I think you have to be selfless in relationships when you know that that is not the right time. And if you make that decision and that person is supposed to be in your life, they’ll come back.”

Similar sentiments are expressed in the lyrics of “Clean (Taylor’s Version)” and “Begin Again (Taylor’s Version).” In 2015, Swift opened up about the moment she realized an ex no longer occupied space in her brain after a breakup.

“‘Clean’ I wrote as I was walking out of Liberty in London,” she told Elle . “Someone I used to date — it hit me that I’d been in the same city as him for two weeks and I hadn’t thought about it. When it did hit me, it was like, ‘Oh, I hope he’s doing well.’ And nothing else.”

Crucial to the process of acceptance is forgiveness, a theme present in “Innocent (Taylor’s Version),” one of the playlist’s final tracks. It was written in the aftermath of West’s now-infamous VMAs interruption, with Swift acknowledging that the incident doesn’t define him and expressing hope that he’ll change. (Whether she included the song on the playlist as a message to herself or as a generous nod to her ex, it’s worth noting that Alwyn was 32 — “and still growing up now” — at the time of their split. West, for his part, was 32 when she released the track.)

“I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” concludes with “Breathe (Taylor’s Version),” a reminder that reaching acceptance is hardly easy. “But people are people and sometimes it doesn’t work out,” she sings. “And nothin’ we say is gonna save us from the fallout.”

Swift will seemingly have a lot to say on The Tortured Poets Department — and fans will have even more to analyze about her split from Alwyn — but one thing is certain: she’s ready to begin again.

Hit 80s band announces UK tour with a promise to play songs from all 11 albums

The Cult performing on stage

The Cult has announced that they are set to embark on a new tour in celebration of their 40th anniversary.

The rock band announced The 8424 tour, a name which references the year they formed in 1984 and the year of this gig, 2024.

Much like Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour , the band is set to perform some of their best hits from across their 11 albums – including She Sells Sanctuary, Rain, and Fire Woman.

The tour will travel across the UK and Europe, kicking off in the UK in October for 10 dates spanning into November.

While this is an exciting anniversary for the band who are back performing together, it’s not been a plain sailing road to get to this anniversary as the band has actually broken up twice in the past four decades.

The band first broke up in 1995 after 12 years together after it was reported that there were tensions between the two longest-serving members and main songwriters for the group, Billy Duffy and Ian Astbury.

In 1999 the band regrouped and released a seventh album Beyond Good and Evil in 2001. This was reportedly somewhat of a commercial flop which is what perhaps led to their second breakup.

The Cult band members

In 2002 the band broke up again and didn’t reunite until 2006. Since then the band has released four albums with the latest, Under the Midnight Sun, being released just two years ago in 2022.

Before settling on their current name, The Cult, the band also performed under the name Death Cult from 1983–1984.

In 2023, performing under the name Death Cult, guitarist Duffy and frontman Astbury, went on tour performing some of their best hits under the name Death Cult 8323.

The Cult's guitarist Billy Duffy

Guitarist Billy Duffy referenced the tour last year, which included a series of sold out shows at the Brixton Electric, as inspiration for the whole band coming together for this new tour.

‘Following up from the great energy of Death Cult 8323 shows, I’m looking forward to bringing that sense of celebration of the band’s music, and the communion with our fans, to Cult 8424. CFFC. Let the ceremony commence!’

Fans who want to get their hands on tickets to see the band won’t have to wait too long as tickets go on general sale this Friday at 10am.

The band appears to be following a popular trend among 80s hit artists as many other beloved bands from this era have announced comeback tours for 2024.

In March, Fairground attraction announced their return and that their four original members are reuniting not just for a tour, but for a brand new album to boot!

Similarly, the New Kids on the Block announced their return with their first album in over a decade.

Singer-songwriter Sananda Maitreya is also set to perform this summer . Formerly known as Terence Trent D’Arby, the 80s artist will be giving a rare performance at the Love Supreme Jazz Festival.
