- MQB evo – the latest evolutionary stage of the modular transverse matrix platform brings a variety of modern technologies on board the Tiguan
- In future, the successful model will be launched with premium features such as HD matrix headlights and new adaptive chassis control
- New cockpit and infotainment generation for intuitive and logical operating concept has been developed in response to customers feedback
- World premiere will take place in the autumn; the market launch is scheduled for 2024
As part of final test drives, the Volkswagen brand is announcing the first details of its currently best-selling model: The third generation of the new Tiguan will be available with a newly developed active suspension control system and full-size features such as HD Matrix headlights. It is based on the new generation of the modular transverse matrix, MQB evo. With plug-in hybrid drive, the new Tiguan will achieve electric ranges of up to 100 kilometres in the future. The world premiere will take place in autumn, and the bestseller will be launched on the market in 2024.
The Tiguan has been the Volkswagen brand's best-selling model worldwide for years. Since its debut in autumn 2007, more than 7.4 million people around the world have chosen this SUV.Now Volkswagen is completely relaunching the successful model.
Volkswagen has further developed the modular transverse matrix for the new Tiguan. The new generation is called MQB evo. Kai Grünitz, Member of the Brand Board of Management responsible for Technical Development: "State-of-the-art technology components interact perfectly in the MQB evo: a new generation of plug-in hybrid drives with electric ranges of up to 100 kilometres, probably the best active chassis control in its segment, premium interior quality and an equally new and intuitive infotainment system deliver what drivers expect from Volkswagen."
Some new features at a glance
IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights. The Tiguan will be one of the first vehicles in its class to be available with optional HD matrix headlights. The IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlight technology was developed jointly for the Tiguan and Touareg. Based on the top-down principle, the lighting technology of a premium-class model will now be used in the mid-sized Tiguan.
New display- and operating concept. The interior of the Tiguan has been revamped and designed.Volkswagen has taken specific customer requirements into account for intuitive operation. For example, the Tiguan comes onto the market with a newly developed cockpit and a new infotainment system. A screen with a diagonal of up to 38 centimetres (15 inches) clearly displays important functions such as navigation, music and climate control and can be customised with quick access. The center console also houses the Driving Experience Control. The rotary control with its own mini-screen can be used to control drive mode, radio volume or ambient lighting colours. High-quality materials, newly developed seats and effective noise insulation increase value and comfort. In particular, in conjunction with a new "acoustic package" (optional), the Tiguan is designed to provide premium-class noise comfort. The centre consoles also offer more space for storage.
In future, the Tiguan will be offered exclusively with an automatic transmission DSG. Like on the Volkswagen ID. models, the gear position is now changed by means of a steering column switch on the right of the steering wheel with a self-explanatory operating principle. The switch is turned forwards to “D” to drive forwards and backwards to “R” to reverse, while the parking brake is activated by pressing the side of the switch. In addition, paddle shifters are available behind the steering wheel.
Electronically controlled suspension for more comfort and dynamics. The MQB evo provides the starting point for a new generation of the adaptive suspension control DCC: the optional DCC Pro with two-valve shock absorbers. The new model is now additionally equipped as standard with a vehicle dynamics manager – an MQB system that made its debut in the current Golf GTI . The system controls the functions of the electronic differential locks (XDS) and the lateral dynamics components of the controlled shock absorbers in the DCC Pro system. Thanks to the Vehicle Dynamics Manager, which performs wheel-specific braking interventions and wheel-selective adjustments of the shock absorber hardness, the handling characteristics are more neutral, stable, agile and precise. This progress will be noticeable on board through increased comfort as well as significantly improved performance in dynamic cornering.
TDI, TSI, eTSI and eHybrid. Thanks to MQB evo, different drive types are possible for the Tiguan. It will be offered with turbodiesel engines (TDI), turbocharged petrol engines (TSI), mild hybrid turbocharged petrol engines (eTSI) and plug-in hybrid systems (eHybrid). The electric range of the new plug-in hybrid drives has been increased to up to 100 kilometres compared with the predecessors, depending on equipment. In addition, AC charging will be faster in all eHybrid versions, and DC charging will also be possible as standard for the first time.
Premium-class seats . The Tiguan will be optionally available with ergoActive front seats. Among other things, these seats come with pneumatic four-way lumbar support adjustment and a pneumatic 10-chamber pressure point massage function in the backrests – features that are usually found in premium-class models. They are also equipped with seat heating and ventilation.
Larger luggage compartment in the Tiguan. The new Tiguan grows in length by around three centimetres. Height, width and wheelbase remain almost identical to the predecessor. The luggage compartment capacity of the new generation shows just how good the use of space is: although the SUV is only slightly longer, its luggage compartment capacity has increased by 37 litres to 652 litres (when loaded up to the height of the rear seat backrests).

The specified fuel consumption and emission data are determined in accordance with the measurement procedures prescribed by law. 1 January 2022, the WLTP test cycle completely replaced the NEDC test cycle and therefore no NEDC values are available for new type approved vehicles after that date.
This information does not refer to a single vehicle and is not part of the offer but is only intended for comparison between different types of vehicles. Additional equipment and accessories (additional components, tyre formats, etc.) can alter relevant vehicle parameters such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics, affecting the vehicle's fuel consumption, power consumption, CO 2 emissions and driving performance values in addition to weather and traffic conditions and individual driving behavior.
Due to more realistic testing conditions, fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions measured according to WLTP will in many cases be higher than the values measured according to NEDC. As a result, the taxation of vehicles may change accordingly as of 1 September 2018. For further information on the differences between WLTP and NEDC, please visit www.volkswagen.de/wltp .

2024 Volkswagen Tiguan
2024 Volkswagen Tiguan Review
- Smooth, quiet ride
- Comprehensive driver assistance tech comes standard
- Roomy interior and cargo area
- Among the few small SUVs to offer a third-row seat
- Third-row seat is super tight
- Touch-sensing controls can be distracting to use while driving
- Engine can be either too slow or too quick to respond
What's new
- Previously optional driver assistance features now standard
- Base model gains new features
- Updated infotainment system
- Part of the second Tiguan generation introduced for 2018
A compact crossover with surprisingly large interior space, the Tiguan brings sharp style and unexpected versatility to a crowded, competitive class. The Tiguan's elegant exterior lines echo the larger Volkswagen Atlas, and even pricer Audi and BMW crossovers, while the interior design — not especially imaginative — is nonetheless treated to premium materials and an intuitive layout. Smooth ride quality matches the Tiguan's upscale vibe, which extends to the strong, low-end power from its turbo engine. Some clunky gear changes mar the driving experience, and most rivals are slightly more fuel-efficient, but the Tiguan's overall sophistication makes it a top small SUV pick.
Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan S 4dr SUV (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 8A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.55 per gallon for regular unleaded in North Dakota.
Edmunds spotlight: more seats in a pinch.
The Tiguan is slightly longer than a few close rivals but offers less front and rear legroom. It sounds counterintuitive, but instead the Tiguan has expansive cargo space — nearly 38 cubic feet puts it among best in class — that can be repurposed with two more seats. The third row comes standard unless you order all-wheel drive (in which case it's removed to accommodate extra AWD hardware underneath), and it folds flat when you don't need it. And while its utility is questionable, the Tiguan is among the few to offer it. Young kids will fit OK, but you won't want to strand tall passengers back there for long. Still, it's an appreciated feature for times when extra passengers need a short lift.
Competitors to consider
Small SUVs with an available third row are few, and ever fewer at the Tiguan's price. The Kia Sorento is our top pick. It's slightly longer, the extra row a bit roomier, and it's loaded with features. The base engine is sluggish, but there's an optional turbo. The recently redesigned Mitsubishi Outlander is stylish and comfortable and offers a plug-in hybrid. Pricier picks include the Land Rover Discovery and Mercedes-Benz GLB. If a third row isn't important, the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and Mazda CX-50 are all class-leading considerations.
Performance
Fuel economy, which tiguan does edmunds recommend.
The midlevel SE is more expensive than the entry-level Tiguan S, but the upgrades are worth the extra spend. A power liftgate, upgraded front seats, wireless Apple and Android connectivity, and dual-zone climate control make daily driving more comfortable and convenient, while the synthetic leather upholstery adds a more premium feel. It also lacks the annoying capacitive touch steering wheel controls of the upper SE R-Line Black trim.

Volkswagen Tiguan vs. Kia Sorento
Among the few compact SUVs offering a third row of seats, the Kia Sorento is the most direct competitor to the Tiguan. The Sorento has many advantages over the Tiguan, with interior space and performance the biggest among them. But the Kia can be considerably more expensive than the VW, and its base engine is seriously underwhelming.
Volkswagen Tiguan vs. Honda CR-V
The CR-V has long been a benchmark for other compact SUVs and for good reason. Spacious, economical and thoughtfully designed, the CR-V provides a lot of things for a lot of buyers. It's also fully redesigned this year, with a slick new interior and hybrid powertrain that is both more efficient and powerful than the Tiguan's. The VW offers a third row of seats, but it's not enough to overcome the CR-V's overall excellence.
Volkswagen Tiguan vs. Mazda CX-50
Based on the handsome CX-5, the new CX-50 blends adventuresome exterior styling with an upscale interior design and more off-road ability than you'll find in your average small SUV. The CX-50 offers a more powerful engine option than the Tiguan as well as a more user-friendly tech interface, but it lacks a third row of seats, a large cargo capacity and the comfortable ride of the Volkswagen.

2024 Volkswagen Tiguan First Impressions
The competition in the small SUV market is fierce, with every manufacturer needing to bring its A game to make its family- and wallet-friendly crossover stand out from the crowd. The Volkswagen Tiguan kind of fits the bill, impressing with a stylish exterior, lots of room inside, and a robust set of standard and optional features. It's also one of the only compact SUVs with an optional third row, adding to its versatility. However, the Tiguan's unhurried powertrain takes a beat to register a press of the accelerator, the touch-sensitive control panels can be frustrating to operate, and interior materials don't quite match up to segment leaders.
There seems to be good news on the horizon for Volkswagen fans, as thinly disguised Tiguan prototypes have been photographed testing on public roads over the last few months. And since the current Tiguan dates back to 2018, the time is right for a full redesign. A fully revamped Tiguan is expected to debut for the 2024 model year.
The new Tiguan is believed to be available in pure gasoline, plug-in hybrid and fully electric variants worldwide, and though we don't know which of these will come to the U.S., the gas engine is almost assured. Hopefully it's a bit peppier than the current powertrain, or the transmission is retuned to be more responsive. We are also crossing our fingers that VW rethinks the capacitive touch design that debuted on the ID.4 electric vehicle and is percolating throughout other models. The experience, as it stands now, is fairly user-unfriendly and may turn off prospective buyers as early as the test drive.
Recently photographed prototypes suggest that the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan will be all-new. Stay tuned for Volkswagen to reveal the third generation of its ultra-popular compact SUV.

What's New for 2022?
Volkswagen has given its compact SUV a handsome styling refresh for 2022 to help it look at home alongside the restyled Atlas and new Atlas Cross Sport mid-size SUVs. New LED headlamps, revised grille and bumpers, and new wheel designs give the 2022 Tiguan a more modern appearance. The Tiguan's cabin receives updates as well, in the form of a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls. Heated seats and a digital gauge display are now standard across the lineup. All models except the base S also receive a new touch-sensitive climate control panel, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a semi-autonomous driving mode that VW calls Travel Assist. The Tiguan's third row of seats will remain an option. Expect the 2022 Tiguan to appear in VW showrooms by the end of 2021.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The price of the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan starts at $27,785 and goes up to $38,615 depending on the trim and options.
Stepping up to the mid-range SE trim adds 18-inch wheels, a power-operated rear liftgate, lane-keeping assist, and the new semi-autonomous driving mode. A panoramic sunroof is a $1200 option on the SE and may be worth the upgrade for buyers who like to catch a few rays while driving.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Under the hood of every 2022 Tiguan is a turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 184 horsepower; front-wheel drive is standard but Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is optional. This is a sporty, fun-to-drive SUV with a smooth, willing engine and a well-coordinated automatic transmission. Like most of its competitors it's far from fast, but it makes up for that with a taut ride, athletic handling, and responsive steering with a whisper of sportiness that recalls VW's well-respected GTI hot hatchback . The Tiguan's brake-pedal action is soft and it doesn't match up to the firm, progressive pedals we enjoy in other members of VW's family tree . At our test track, the Tiguan delivered a rather languid 9.1-second zero-to-60-mph time . On the road, the Tiguan doesn't feel as slow as its test results indicate, with enough low-end grunt to feel perky around town. Merging onto the highway may be the only time you'll wish the Tiguan had a bit more power.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA estimates that the front-wheel drive model will be the most frugal, with ratings of 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. All-wheel drive drops those numbers by 1 mpg each and going with the SEL R-Line results in an additional 1 mpg penalty. When we get a chance to test the 2022 Tiguan on our 75-mph highway fuel economy test, we'll update this story with results. For more information about the Tiguan's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website .
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Tiguan's interior is classically Volkswagen, which is to say that it is simple and functional but not particularly stylish. Others offer more legroom in the second row, but the Tiguan is one of the only vehicles in the class that can be had with seating for seven. The Tiguan comes standard with cloth seating and partial power adjustment for the front seats. Opting into more expensive versions can net full power adjustment for the driver, faux-leather seating, and a panoramic sunroof. With just 12 cubic feet of cargo space behind the available third row, the Tiguan simply can't be a hauling vehicle when the third row is in use. With the third row folded, the Tiguan's cargo measurements put it about in the middle of this class for raw space. With all the seats folded, we fit 19 of our carry-on boxes in the Tiguan, less than we stuffed inside key rivals including the CR-V
Infotainment and Connectivity
Volkswagen's infotainment system is sleek-looking but features touch-sensitive controls integrated into a large glass screen which we have found difficult to use. The system comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so drivers who prefer their smartphone's familiar interface to Volkswagen's system are in luck; a Wi-Fi hotspot is standard. A 480-watt nine-speaker Fender audio system is available for audiophiles, but only in upper trims. All models come with either an 8.0- or 10.3-inch digital gauge display which can be reconfigured to display a variety of information.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Forward-collision alert with automatic braking and a blind-spot warning system are standard, but Volkswagen charges extra for more desirable driver-assistance features such as lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. For more information about the Tiguan's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS ) websites. Key safety features include:
- Standard automated emergency braking with forward collision warning
- Available lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
- Available adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
What was previously the industry's best bumper-to-bumper warranty at six years and 72,000 miles of coverage has been shortened to four years or 50,000 miles . To help make that reduced coverage a little easier to handle, all new Volkswagens offer two years of regularly scheduled maintenance included at no charge.
- Limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
- Complimentary maintenance is covered for 2 years or 20,000 miles

S (Sport) Mode - Who uses/loves it?
- Add to quote
Interested in hearing thoughts of those who regularly use S (Sport) mode of your Tiguan. How horrible is the gas mileage if you use it mostly for city driving only?
Re: S (Sport) Mode - Who uses/loves it? (ryantiguan) When I had the DSG in the Audi, it was a lot more fun because it was A LOT faster in regards to response time. After I got used to the DSG, I only used it in manual mode any time i wanted to go faster. The gas mileage was better in the Audi too, so I felt like I could spare the cost of the worse gas mileage (but not horrible) in return for the fun. Now that I have the Tiptronic in the Tig, I don't find myself using either the S or the Tiptronic because the gas mileage is poor (and would only get worse) and the response time isn't as quick; I found myself redlining because it didn't respond fast enough; I was used to the response time with the DSG. It's a shame the DSG wasn't used (although I know it's not capable of the towing capacity the Tig has). I only use it when I need to: 1) Overtaking/passing 2) Accelerating on short on-ramps 3) When I'm hungry/moody and need to get some food pronto Modified by MistaRhoi at 4:28 PM 4-20-2010
Re: S (MistaRhoi) I thought its was S for Snow and that the traction control was hella invasive or something. Normal D driving is torquey enough to get anywhere quick not to mention AWD get me where I want to be almost instantly.
Anyone thinking of taking advantage of the $599 APR Stage I upgrade for their 2009/2010 Tiguan before April 30th?
Re: S (Sport) Mode - Who uses/loves it? (ryantiguan) Occasionally I use it for an edge in city traffic, but I don't love it. The performance difference isn't that great; it makes it harder to drive smoothly; and the engine noise when holding the lower gears and revving higher is intrusive. The Tiguan is my wife's and she likes it, so I don't complain about it, but if the car had been for me, doing it over again, I would just choose something larger and more powerful.
I use the sport mode occasionally, usually to hold gears on downhills. I got the APR retune done and it makes the sport mode even more enjoyable the pull is awesome.
Does anyone know if APR Stage 1 is actually legal in the US?
Tuning a vehicle is up to the owner, Government cant say how much fuel to use. Also I though it was snow because it had no shift options so I figured it was for better differential control, like the EVO snow setting.
Only use S by mistake, coming from R while maneuvering...Just use D but, 99% of the time if over 70 km/h, I use tiptronic mode. I cannot compare consumption between S and D but I didn`t find toomuch difference when I tried D x M.
don't you find this tranny to be slow in downshifts when in D or S? most especially when you're feathering the throttle during traffic...it stays on a higher gear & I will usually hear/feel the clutch engaging. anybody else observing this?
Re: (kalso6699) S downshifts just fine for me when I drive *briskly*. If you find that you still want more acceleration beyond what the Tiptronic and stock settings give you, definitely consider spending 600 bucks on the APR Stage 1 ECU tuning. 25% more torque and horsepower will do wonders for having instant acceleration at any city speed.
I use the sport mode under 40 MPH to stay in the power band, after 45 MPH I switch to D.
I use Tiptronic if I want to control the performance at all. Especially in hilly and/or windy roads where I constantly need to shift up and down. The S mode doesn't shift until at least 3,000 rpm for mine, which in city driving situations is often too high - it will sit at 2800rpm for extended periods of time and the engine will actually slow you down if you aren't on the gas. IMHO - use D whenever your are just getting around town, and switch to Tiptronic when you want to have some fun or manuever through traffic. Many times manufacturers put in features just because the competition did and they want to have that comparable option and I feel like they just put in an S mode for that reason... :bs:
Yeah, shifting point in sport mode is 3250rpm, if you can't reach that it will stay there.
I use S regularly for maintaining gears and engine braking on winding downhills, and city grid streets.
On winding downhills, mine stays in lower gears when I'm in D to allow engine braking. It somehow knows when I am at a steep incline or decline and adjusts the shifting points accordingly. Maybe this is part of the 4Motion package? Its a pretty nice feature, although far from perfected. I still find myself switching to Tiptronic so I can downshift before I climb a steep incline, otherwise it downshifts too late for my taste.
I use the trIptronic way more than I ever use the sport mode so I can shift at 5500 instead of letting the ecu shift at 7000. There is no usable power up there with the k03. Dyno proven and 1/4 mile proven.....

VW’s next Tiguan PHEV can drive 62 miles in electric-only mode
- June 15, 2023
Volkswagen’s next plug-in hybrid (PHEV) may be particularly appealing if you’re determined to avoid using the gas engine whenever possible. The automaker has shared the first details of its next-gen Tiguan SUV, and the PHEV model will manage up to 62 miles of all-electric range. That’s about twice the range of the existing Tiguan eHybrid, and makes the 37.5 miles of Toyota’s Prius Prime seem modest. You might only need to rely on combustion power for long-distance trips.
The jump to a new MQB evo platform (and thus new electric motors) is partly credited for the extended PHEV range. It also allows for an electronically-controlled suspension that promises better handling and more comfort, and enables both faster AC charging on the plug-in model as well as DC charging. It’s now more practical to charge the Tiguan overnight or at a rest stop, in other words.
VW has also revamped the in-cabin technology. The infotainment system now uses up to a 15-inch screen, and there’s a digital instrument cluster with rotary-based control. There’s even a nod to ID-series EVs with a switch on the steering column to change drive modes. The new Tiguan will only be available with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The updated Tiguan will officially debut in the fall, with models reaching dealerships in 2024. We wouldn’t count on a North American release of the PHEV edition when it hasn’t been available in the region so far. However, VW’s effort hints at the direction of hybrids for the industry at large. The electric-only range is now good enough to cover a wide range of driving scenarios, and may be enticing if you’re not quite ready to buy a pure EV.

All About Volkswagen Tiguan Snow Mode – Why Is It Special?
Reputable car brands come up with numerous features and modes to handle unexpected weather conditions – and Volkswagen, fortunately, is no exception.
Our expert team has been impressed with its snow modes, particularly on Tiguan models, which have been a lifesaver during the toughest winter months!
Want to know more? This article will gladly reveal further about the Tiguan snow mode . Let’s dive in.
What Is Tiguan Snow Mode? How Does It Work
An overview.
As its name suggests (quite blatantly, may we say), Tiguan Snow Modes are tailored for winter and snowy roads , altering the VW’s dynamics to foster better control and traction .
(quite similar to Snow Buttons on Toyota Highlander ).
They arrive with four basic capabilities to help you power through the snow with ease, listed as follows:
- Modifying torque distribution to cut off power to VW rear wheels with insufficient traction
- Decreasing throttle response and reducing overall wheel spin
- Adjusting transmission settings for low RPM. The power transmitted to your wheels will be slowed down that way, preventing rapid rates that might be dangerous in winter storms or rains.
- Shifting to higher 2nd gears when needed to enhance road stability
Which Systems and Accessories Work Best With Tiguan Snow Mode?
These modes will double their efficiency when combined with AWD or snow/winter tyres. But if we must choose between AWD or winter tires, the latter wins our votes by a long slide. Why?
- Their special rubber never cracks or hardens even under severe temp drops.
- The deeper treads and prevalent siping boost road grips to a new level
- Drivers have a rather dangerous instinct of slamming their foot on the brake when situations call for immediate stops. Snow modes AND snow tires can work together to reduce skidding risks.
- No hydroplaning can occur with high-quality winter tires, particularly when the road snow starts melting.
- Higher-end winter tires are thin – yet high in PSI. The Tiguan snow modes can utilize their pressure further to maneuver more smoothly in winter.
How to Activate It?
- Turn on the mode by rotating your Drive Mode Dials (near the shift levers) to a snowflake icon.
- For difficult terrains, flip the dials to “Off-road Customs” and change advanced settings to your preference.
- In the case of deep snow or slippery ice patches, you might need some good wheelspins to dig the car out. Turn off ASR or Traction Active Control through the Setting menu’s infotainment systems.
When Should You Activate The Volkswagen Tiguan Snow Mode?
Anytime your VW Tiguan encounters slick, snowy conditions (as well as slippery surfaces in other seasons and climates, such as mood), VW Snow Mode can prove your best ally in maintaining control and traction.
And who cares whether you prefer all-wheel or front-wheel drives? The Volkswagen Snow Mode easily handles them all and delivers the extra assistance one might need.
It would not be exaggerating to say that AWD or front-wheel – when paired with Snow Mode – can even surpass four-wheel drives on rough terrains.
Snow Mode Volkswagen Tiguan versus Other Common Drive Modes
It’s not about “Which is the best drive mode?” but more like “When to use which one?”. This section will summarize all available drive settings on VW Tiguan thus far:
- Snow Modes: Keeping lower RPM and early upshift to prevent slipping wheels on icy surfaces and thick inches of snow.
- On-Road Modes : Working best in ideal road conditions. You can toggle between 4 settings to deliver a more comfortable drive.
- Off-Road Modes : Ideal for beaten, rough paths. There’s even a Hills Descent Control mode to help you traverse steep grades.
- Off-Road Custom Modes: Still for beaten terrains, but with more advanced settings to modify the Tiguan to your heart’s content.
Aside from Snow Mode VW Tiguan, What Are Other VW Features to Assist Your Snow Driving?
Electronic differential locks (or edls).
All Tiguans arrive with EDLs to transfer power automatically to your steering wheels (where it’s most needed).
As a result, the car can always move in the correct direction despite slippery roads. The system is also added by:
- Computerized system and ABS sensors to detect wheelspin
- Applied brakes to non-grip, spinning wheels ( click here if they squeak due to getting wet in rain or snow)
- Transferred torque to wheels with more traction
EDLs are an especially good match for FWD Tiguans and slippery terrains. Rather than letting one wheel spin endlessly, it turns the opposite drive wheels to increase driving dynamics.
Electronic Stability Controls
Of course, we could not skim over Electronic Stability Controls, a computer system designed to detect and limit skidding (or loss of traction), improving stability in the process.
They use multiple sensors to track your Tiguan’s behavior during evasive maneuvers and turns.
Once the program spots high risks of control loss due to understeer or oversteer, the brakes will be applied instantly to reduce motor power, keeping you from deep sliding.
Try to drive under heavy downpours once, and you will be thankful for this inclusive design!
Traction Controls
Even a child can imagine what would happen on wet roads filled to the brim with ice and snow: all tire grips are lost, causing them to spin round and round!
Here’s where the Traction Control (or ASR – Anti-Slip Regulations , quoted from VW) enters the scene.
It cuts off excessive engine energy to stop the wheel spinning before it goes too far. The tires can regain their tight hold on the road and gradually resume speed.
When working with the AWD drive systems, Traction Control’s performance is simply unmatched. Even steep inclines are nothing against them.
Anti Lock Braking System
Considered VW Tiguan’s standard compartment, ABS lends your engine braking performance some significant improvements in all climates and conditions.
How so? As slick roads hinder your movements and reduce grip, the wheels will likely lock up and skid off control.
ABS prevents such disasters via brake-pulsing, pushing your car to move forwards and regain its grip during deceleration.
Our inclusive guides have hopefully lent you more insight into the incredible power that the VW Tiguan snow mode can hold.
Keep our tips in mind to use the snow mode Tiguan properly, and feel free to reach out for help if needed!
