Monsta X was the 4th kpop group I ever discovered. They blew my mind with Hero and from then on I fell in love. I'm I'm a multi fandom type person (monsta x isn't my main though) so I was a little worried about not knowing every song and being able to singalong stuff like that. But there was no problem. I met really nice monbebe's who I'm now friends with and were very kind understanding people. Everyone was super lit and even when I didn't know certain songs I was able to rock just as hard maybe even harder cause once they performed them the songs just seemed even better. They sang live for the most part and they were also hype. They prepared really great stages and were so funny. Their aura as a group was so energetic, genuine, and loving and I couldn't have loved it more. The view was way better than I anticipated. I could see them pretty well from where I was but if I wanted to see the details of their face I think I was sitting just a P too far away. They know how to hype up the crowd and rile us up and make things wild lol @Jooheon. I think the members with the most stage presence are Jooheon, I.M., Kihyun, Hyungwon was a little shy but warmed up half way through and spoke really good English. The others aren't not there or anything but these 3 just know how to make people cheer their lungs out #4daysofwithoutavoice. If you're worried or scared or curious I think next year you should come out and support the boys cause they'll blow away your expectations. Hope this made you wanna come :3

I'm honestly failing at holding in tears right now...

Monsta X was amazing they were just amazing!!! They sound just like their tracks and their dancing is absolutely mesmerizing... Their individual personalities add to the overall fun that we had that night and they kept me on my feet the entire time!!!

I absolutely adore the fact that they take time out to just talk and catch up with the fans and it makes us just feel so special!

And boy when they start their antics they can become real comedians i tell you! They brighten up the whole mood whenever they're around and when they left that stage, a lot and i mean A LOT of Monbebes cried as well. We miss them dearly and hope for them to come back next time!!! I am happy they got the recognition they deserve with the tv appearances so far and I have to say that even if you don't like kpop, jut go and see these wonderful human beings. They have such bright personalities and you won't regret any money spent!! I just hope that next time I'll be able to be closer to the stage!!! All I can say right now without breaking down is that Monsta X are entertaining and make me feel like life really does have it's beautiful moments...and I'm happy that me and my friends have started our tradition. We decided that since we were there for their first US world tour and now their second, we would come to any US concerts and events they would have in LA. No matter what. I can't wait to stay true yet again to our tradition and see them again!

It was such an amazing show. I got to spend the night with two of my friends and one of my favourite groups. I'm sad i didnt get to actually meet them but it was a great day anyways. The members were so hot irl like arghhhhhh~~~~

Shownu..... i feel like shownu felt really happy during the concert, i loved that because he was just bright and still so cute!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!

IM....... talent... talent is what i can say about him. I'm so proud of him, like having to sorta translate for the boys (even though there was a translator there) but he sorta was and im proud of him, and his talent is beyond real, like is a maknae's voice wven that deep?! what?!!! Like AGHHhhh

The Monsta X concert that took place on the 17th of June, was one of the best concerts I had ever experienced and was most certainly an unforgettable night.

Where I was seated (circle block 2, Row H, seats 51 and 50) were very good seats. I could see the artists very clearly and my seats were comfortable and had I had a lot of room.

Furthermore, the staff was very helpful and kind regarding all of my questions. They helped me to where my seats where kindly. The security was also very good and made me feel safe in the arena that we were in.

The volume of the music, the lights, the stage presence all of these were also something I was very impressed with.

One complaint I will make was that the translator was not very good. I undestand that it may have been hard to translate so quickly and when there was so much going on, but I was able to understand and translate more than the translator and I am not at all fluent in Korean.

All in all, I was very impressed with the concert and everything went amazingly. From the kind staff to the incredible performances, last night was an unforgettable night for me and I enjoyed it very very very much.

Loved the show! The location of the concert was great, I wasn't towards the front but I could still see their faces clearly from where I was sitting. The fans weee super nice while we were all waiting in line outside and had planned so many fan projects for the boys since it's their first tour and the first stop. I definitely hope that the boys come back to Chicago because they went so hard ridding no theid performances. The only downside was that Hyungwon was sick and couldn't participate so I'd love to see them again when he's able too perform. My favorite pet of the concert would have to be the subunit stages that they did because they just did so well. Kihyun and Jooheon's stage was probably my favorite because of Kihyun's amazing vocals and Jooheon's rap was amazing.

I went to their SF concert on August 1st. I've been to other concerts like Coldplay and Imagine Dragons, but this was my first kpop concert. No words can express how incredible seeing them live was. The energy that Monsta X brings to the stage is REAL. It is insane. The excitement and energetic vibe they brought to the stage made everyone get an adrenaline rush. Trying to adequately explain the amazing experience is next to impossible. The best I can do is say that if anyone debating whether going to their concert is worth it or not, the answer is a whole hearted YES. It may be something that you can only do once, but it is the best one-time experience I've ever had. Monsta X concerts are something else. I could never forget those concert memories...

The show was absolutely amazing. From the beginning, to the very end, they had us all on our feet. When they sang Broken Heart, I had tears streaming down my face the entire time. It was a sold out show, and every Monbebe there was very supportive. We all cheered and sang along with the songs, so well that at one point Shownu was singing Beautiful acapella and he stopped singing, and the entire crowd continued singing this song so well that he and wonho both did some of the choreography to it. They kept saying wow. If you ever have a chance to see them, do it! They were so wonderful, and showed that they really cared about the fans. Monbebe ♡ Monsta X! 화이팅!

I went to their 2 concerts in Argentina. They're angeles! The first time I saw them I cried because I couldn't believe how beautiful, talented and sweet they were with us. And the second one, I get hitouch and that's it, I'm the happiest human in the world. They take care of Monbebes, they smile at you and look at your eyes. Both were beautiful experiences, I'm really thankful with them for doing their best to make us happy. I really love Monsta X since 2015 and I will always love them. Thank so much for these wonderful memories. I hope to see them soon.

Absolutely amazing! They performed so well and intereacted with fans quite a lot during the whole concert. They were lovely and their voices were amazing + the rappers (jooheon & changkyun) were full of energy. They brought the whole venue to their feet whenever they performed and overall the atmosphere was really good. People left crying, not because it was bad but because it was truly a night to remember. They are worth seeing and i’d definitely recommend seeing Monsta x in concert! Stan legends! Stan Monsta x!

Fan Chant: How I.M of Monsta X Created His Most “Natural” Solo EP Yet

"When I'm making my own music, it's just me, myself, and I," he says

Welcome back to Fan Chant , a weekly column for K-pop fans, stans, and newbies alike. Today, I.M of Monsta X offers insight into his latest EP . Plus, if you haven’t already, you can always subscribe to my companion newsletter to get Fan Chant delivered right to your inbox each week!

For I.M of Monsta X , the goal is always to let his music speak for itself. “When someone goes to an art exhibition, they should feel what they want,” he notes, chatting with Consequence over Zoom.

The songwriter, vocalist, and rapper has explored so many sub-genres throughout his time in Monsta X, but seems drawn to R&B sounds in his solo music. His latest individual release is an EP titled Off The Beat . While I.M is unfailingly polite and warm in conversation, it’s in his music that he’s able to embrace a more mysterious persona.

The focus track off the project is “LURE,” a suave and seductive number featuring bossa nova-style guitar and playful touches of horns. The cinematic music video shows him stuck in a time loop of sorts as he tries to win over the object of his affections.

Off The Beat follows 2023’s  Overdrive , a similarly moody EP characterized by even more angst than this year’s project. “At that time, I was trying to contain myself, but right now I feel chill and comfortable,” he explains. “These tracks came out in a very natural way.”

He shouts out “MMI” as being memorable to record, noting that this song offers a look into his process. “Whenever I’m making music, I think about how I need to use my energy and emotions, and when I was working on this song, I felt like my strength was almost used up,” he recalls.

I.M has been performing with Monsta X since 2015, and he and his bandmates are currently working through military enlistment. Four of his teammates are in the middle of service now, but the eldest, Shownu, has already completed his time — meaning he was available to hear the new project from Monsta X’s youngest. “It’s not that his reaction was especially cheery or anything, but he said that he loves it,” I.M says with a laugh. “And I believe him.”

“When I’m working within Monsta X, all the members have different abilities and skills,” he continues. “It’s like putting the puzzle pieces together… But when I’m making my own music, it’s just me, myself, and I.” While he’s working hard to avoid specific spoilers for what lies ahead, he shares that he’s deeply excited for the remainder of 2024. “I’m planning lots of stuff that I can’t say in detail, but I hope there’s a chance to meet fans internationally,” he says with a cryptic smile.

The day we speak, a few weeks prior to the release of Off The Beat , he’s already eager to see how the fans (known as MONBEBE) will respond to the album. “It’s hard to pick a favorite song, because they’re all like my babies, and if I pick just one, the other babies will be sad,” he explains. “‘LURE’ is the lead track…” he starts, before catching himself. “No, they’re all my favorite.”

How Monsta X Is Taking Over the U.S., One Tour Stop At a Time

Monsta X expands upon the genre's touring blueprint in the U.S. by looking beyond the major markets.

Less than three months after Monsta X released its debut EP, Trespass , in May 2015, the Seoul-based boy band, under South Korean label Starship Entertainment, made its first stateside appearance as part of the KCON Los Angeles festival that summer. At the time, the largest-scale K-pop tour had been a nine-date theater run by hip-hop trio Epik High — one of six male K-pop tours to hit the United States that year. This year alone, so far nine South Korea-based acts, both male and female, have completed U.S. treks, with 13 K-pop groups including Monsta X confirmed to play U.S. shows in the coming months. Monsta X’s summer tour will be its most ambitious, with 17 North American dates; in comparison, BTS ’ upcoming Map of the Soul trek includes eight U.S. stadiums and BlackPink played five U.S. cities on its 2019 In Your Area world tour.

“We never expected to even have shows at big arenas like the Staples Center or, this year, at [L.A.-area venue] The Forum,” says Monsta X rapper I.M. “But we’ve never felt like we’ve needed to limit ourselves.” Jbeau Lewis, the music agent at UTA who works with the group, notes that booking regions besides major cities was vital to planning this outing. “Expanding beyond the limited handful of core K-pop markets into key cities like Detroit, Toronto and Washington, D.C. — where there is not only an Asian American crowd but also a diverse and widespread pop audience — is a critical piece of [our] strategy,” he says. “We want to reach as many fans, both old and new, as we can.”

The tour follows Monsta X’s debut English-language album, All About Luv , its first full-length released on Epic Records, which bowed at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 . The lead single, “ Who Do U Love? ” (featuring French Montana ), made Monsta X the second K-pop group to appear on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart. The group has heavily promoted the new release stateside with high-profile TV appearances on Today , The Kelly Clarkson Show and at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards.

But since its 2019 tour, Monsta X has battled internal issues, as original vocalist Wonho announced his departure from the group last October (in part due to a series of accusations made against him on social media that Starship vowed to fight legally) and rapper Joohoney took a leave of absence in January (to deal with anxiety). Now, with the 2020 tour coming up, the group’s focus is primarily on self-improvement: Member Kihyun says the band is eating healthier (Minhyuk is regularly eating breakfast for the first time in his life) and working out more frequently to be in the best physical and mental shape. Adds I.M: “And Joohoney is going to join our world tour — don’t worry about that.”

MONSTA X Reschedules U.S. Tour + Announces New Summer 2022 Dates

MONSTA X has officially rescheduled their upcoming “NO LIMIT” tour of the United States.

On January 20, Starship Entertainment announced that MONSTA X’s U.S. tour, which was previously scheduled to kick off at the end of this month, has been postponed to the summer. Instead of taking place in January and February, MONSTA X’s U.S. tour will now run from May through June 2022, with the group performing in only nine cities (as opposed to 13).

MONSTA X will kick off their tour in New York on May 21, then head to Fairfax on May 24, Detroit on May 26, Chicago on May 28, Sunrise on June 1, Atlanta on June 4, Fort Worth on June 6, Phoenix on June 8, before wrapping up with a final show in Los Angeles on June 11.

Starship Entertainment’s full English statement is as follows:

Hello, this is Starship Entertainment. Thank you very much for your interest and support in the “2022 MONSTA X WORLD TOUR IN US/CANADA” which was originally planned for January – February. MONSTA X first announced a U.S. and Canada tour in 2020, but the tour was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tour dates were pushed back to April and May 2021, but in March 2021, the tour dates were postponed a second time and later rescheduled for January and February 2022.

It’s fifteen minutes past midnight in South Korea and I.M has no signs of tiredness and still exudes an unmatched cool energy. After a busy press day promoting his latest EP Off The Beat , I ask him over Zoom how he unwinds after work. “I listen to music that makes me comfortable without any lyrics just to clean my mind—my complicated mind,” he says. “Or, I just go home and drink. However, humans are all like this, aren’t they?” 

Off The Beat is I.M’s second release with Sony Music Korea—his third overall EP after Duality and Overdrive . The EP is a culmination of all his influences —from Latin flair guitars, soul, to his home base of R&B. Though, he still manages to tie all of that back to his own personal style. The first single “Lure” is a sultry invitation for a lover that swirls endlessly around temptation. “Tell me babe is it a crime? / One bite, I can’t satisfy / keep it on the low / But I want’em to know for sure,” he sings in the hypnotizing chorus. The song stemmed from a straightforward beat that his producer sent him and over time, his imagination bloomed.

The rest of the EP is teeming with rich contemplations of love that most young adults go through. Tracks like “X0” grasp the concept of yearning for someone desperately, but in contrast, “MMI” relishes in alone time from everybody else. “Love is really hard to define,” he said. “I think that’s the real reason why artists sing about love and relationships all the time. I think love is the best thing we can do. Of course, that gives me a lot of inspiration—including the love that I get from my fans and my family.” 

Monbebes are also at the forefront of I.M’s mind whenever he’s doing promotions. At every mention of his fans, he smiles. “I want them to feel free when they listen to my album,” he beams. As for what the rest of 2024 has in store, he teases, “I’m planning lots of activities that I can’t say in detail. I hope they’re gonna love it.”

He’s also not stopping with his growth any time soon. He describes Off The Beat and his earlier EPs as the “best of me and the best quality that I can make at that time” of his life. He also acknowledges that he’ll put even better music out in the future as his creativity is boundless. “I believe I’m gonna change. Maybe next year or even maybe tomorrow.”
