Nicely written! Thanks for the info. Ratnagiri has always been beautiful. But I got to know it when I actually visited Vengurla in Ratnagiri. It had many small beaches. They were clean and scarcely crowded. But the place was beautiful and green. It had fresh air everywhere. The resort in which we had booked a stay – Golven Beach Resort. They were very helpful and on request had taken us to nearby locations like Tarkarli beach, Sateri DEvi beach, etc.

It is among the significant tourist attractions in Ratnagiri. This is a historic building that’s located 2 Km from Ratnagiri Bus Stand. It was constructed by the British in 1910. This palace has been used by the King before his departure from 1910 to 1916. The palace comes with windows that are semi-circular in shape and contains carvings on them. Jaigad Fort

This 16th-century fort is one of the most notable tourist places in Ganpatipule, standing tall withstanding the tests of time. The fort was built on a cliff overlooking the Jaigad creek at the confluence of River Shastri and the Arabian Sea, to protect one of the major ports of the era. The remains of this majestic architectural splendour, extending over 13 acres at an elevation of 250 feet above sea level, will spellbind you. A moat that used to be filled with water as a protection against invaders surrounds the structure. Most of the outer walls and ramparts are intact, connected by robust bastions. If you climb the stairways, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the creek from the upper fortress. In the centre of the construction lies the palace of Shivaji’s commander-in-chief Kanhoji Angre. Location: Near Jaigad Village, approximately 20 km to the north-west of Ganpatipule. Timings: 9am to 4.30pm.

Tilak Ali Museum is located in Ratnagiri City. Tilak Ali Museum, the ancestral house of Lokamanya Balgangadhar Tilak, is a fine example of native Konkani architecture.Lokamanya Balgangadhar Tilak, a prominent freedom fighter of India, was born in Ratnagiri Town. Tilak Ali Museum depicts the life of Tilak and his struggle for Indian Independence through paintings and pictures. This museum is maintained by the Archeological Department of India.

Ganapatipule Temple

A 400-year-old Ganesha temple, holy place (Swayambhu Ganpati Temple - is built of pule which is nothing but white sand and is believed to be a self-created monolith of Lord Ganesha, allegedly discovered 1600 years ago. The Ganesh Temple at Ganapatipule is very ancient, right from the time of Peshwas. Ganpatipule is one of the" Ashta Dwar Devatas" (Eight Welcoming Dieties) of the subcontinent and is known as Western's Sentinel God. Ganapatipule derived its name from ?Ganapati" or the Lord of "Ganas"(army) and Pule' which means sand dune.The Ganapatipule Beach is clean with fine silvery white sand

Jaigad Fort

Located 18 km from Ganpatipule in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, the Jaigad fort is situated on a cliff that overlooks the Arabian sea. The Fort of Victory, Jaigad spreads over an area of 13 acres and consists of a Lord Ganesh Temple, wells to store water and the palace of Kanhoji Angre.Besides the fort, the port of Jaigad is older than the fort and used to be considered as one of the chief ports in Western Coast of India.The meeting point of the river Shashtri and Arebian Sea is called as the creek of Jaigad.On the top of these bastions government rest house is being constructed. In the premises of the Jaigad Fort there is a Lord Ganeshji's Temple, Light house and an old splintered mansion of care takers of the fort.

Mandvi Beach

A booming hot spot of tourists, Mandavi Beach is the most crowded beach in the Ratnagiri city. The prettiest beach in Ratnagiri, Mandavi is gifted with a vast line of seashore right up to Rajiwanda Port. This fabulous beach is surrounded by the west by the Ratnadurg fort, and the majestic Arabian Sea lies to its south. Mandavi beach offers lustrous black sand and so it is renowned as the 'Black Sea'. In comparison with other beaches, Mandavi beach appears little filthy because of the black sand; yet this is the most sought after picnic spot in Ratnagiri. Swami Swaroopanand, Pawas

Pawas(20 kms from the city ), spiritual place in Ratnagiri district due to a very long stay of Swami (saint) Swaroopanand. Swami Swaroopanand was a follower of Warkari Sampraday ( Tradition). The real name of Swamiji is Ramchandra but he was popularly and affectionately recognized as "Appa" or "Rambhau" . He born on 15th December 1903 at Pawas. Rambhau (Appa) had his primary education up to fifth standard at Pawas and secondary education at Ratnagiri. For his higher secondary education he had admitted to Aaryan Education Society's high school at Mumbai in 1919.In the premises of Swamiji's beautiful temple at Pawas, there is a Dhyangumpha (Contemplation Room) and a Lord Ganeshji's deity into a tree of Emlica. Swamiji's home "Anant Niwas" is being preserved nicely by the temple trustees. .
