We had an awesome tour of Buck Island! Our crew was made up of Miles, Amanda, and Avery! They were awesome to spend the day with! My friend and I had never snorkeled before and they went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable! They guided us through the underwater trail making sure we were doing good the whole time! We went to the other side of the island and checked out the beach for awhile and then headed back! There were a range of people from children to a few older people and also some who didn’t speak English! From the smiles on everyone’s faces getting off the crew did an amazing job! A shout out to Avery, Amanda, and Miles for the fun day! I can’t wait to bring more visitors for a tour!

We took the 1/2 day trip to Buck Island. It is a must. The water is amazing and snorkeling was great. The departure was right on time and so was the return. The crew went out of their way to help myself and my two teenagers who haven’t snorkels before. Their divers will pull you along and guide you through the reefs so you can see everything. Moe towed us and let us hold onto a lifesaver to help us until we felt comfortable enough in the open sea snorkeling. The captain was great. So friendly and so very helpful making sure everyone felt comfortable. The island is gorgeous and the beach is breathtaking.

Our sunset sail on the last evening of our trip was wonderful. Captain John and Morgan were great. It was a gorgeous sail from Christiansted almost to Buck Island just in time for the sunset. Plenty of drinks served onboard and our choice of music. And we saw 2 sea turtles which was perfect. Wave Dancer was a nice size for our family of 4…not too big but not so small that the boat would get tossed around by the waves. Would easily hold a larger group, too. Wonderful way to end an amazing week! ⛵️

Best Napali Coast Boat Tours

Holo holo charters – napali sunset dinner tour.

Price: Adults from $210; kids from $190 Duration: 3.5 hours

If a sunset sail is at the top of your Hawaii to-do list, consider this cruise. Aboard the company's 65-foot catamaran, you'll be treated to views of a sunset, rocky cliffs, sea caves and local sea life while gliding along the Napali Coast . Cruises are limited to 49 passengers. The tour also includes a hot dinner, as well as mai tais, beer and wine. Tourgoers describe the crew as exceptional and say the views are fabulous. Reviews for the food are more mixed, with many describing the dishes as average. Several travelers also warn of choppy waters and advise taking motion sickness medication ahead of your cruise.

Tours generally depart daily from Port Allen in the late afternoon, but departure times vary by season. Children younger than 5 are not allowed on the cruise. Holo Holo Charters also offers snorkeling cruises and a daylong tour that sails by neighboring island Niihau.

Kauai Sea Tours – Na Pali Raft Tour

Just returned from Maui. Family and I did a Friday night sunset cruise. Highly recommend this trip. Capt. Phil and crew are top notch. They work hard to make sure you have fun. From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

Moscow Metro 2019

Will it be easy to find my way in the Moscow Metro? It is a question many visitors ask themselves before hitting the streets of the Russian capital. As metro is the main means of transport in Moscow – fast, reliable and safe – having some skills in using it will help make your visit more successful and smooth. On top of this, it is the most beautiful metro in the world !

. There are over 220 stations and 15 lines in the Moscow Metro. It is open from 6 am to 1 am. Trains come very frequently: during the rush hour you won't wait for more than 90 seconds! Distances between stations are quite long – 1,5 to 2 or even 3 kilometers. Metro runs inside the city borders only. To get to the airport you will need to take an onground train - Aeroexpress.

RATES AND TICKETS

Paper ticket A fee is fixed and does not depend on how far you go. There are tickets for a number of trips: 1, 2 or 60 trips; or for a number of days: 1, 3 days or a month. Your trips are recorded on a paper ticket. Ifyou buy a ticket for several trips you can share it with your traveling partner passing it from one to the other at the turnstile.

On every station there is cashier and machines (you can switch it to English). Cards and cash are accepted. 1 trip - 55 RUB 2 trips - 110 RUB

Tickets for 60 trips and day passes are available only at the cashier's.

1 day - 230 RUB 3 days - 438 RUB 30 days - 2170 RUB.

The cheapest way to travel is buying Troyka card . It is a plastic card you can top up for any amount at the machine or at the ticket office. With it every trip costs 38 RUB in the metro and 21 RUB in a bus. You can get the card in any ticket office. Be prepared to leave a deposit of 50 RUB. You can get it back returning the card to the cashier.

One turnstile at every station accept PayPass and payments with phones. It has a sticker with the logos and located next to the security's cabin.

GETTING ORIENTED

At the platfrom you will see one of these signs.

It indicates the line you are at now (line 6), shows the direction train run and the final stations. Numbers below there are of those lines you can change from this line.

In trains, stations are announced in Russian and English. In newer trains there are also visual indication of there you are on the line.

To change lines look for these signs. This one shows the way to line 2.

There are also signs on the platfrom. They will help you to havigate yourself. (To the lines 3 and 5 in this case).

Are you still a little giddy from the magical moments of totality during Monday’s solar eclipse? Or did clouds swoop in to block your view? Maybe you just couldn’t make it to the path of totality this time. No matter what, the question now is “ Where and when will it happen again?”

“People who have never seen it before, the first words out of their mouth after the totality ends is ‘I’ve got to see another one, this is incredible, this is unbelievable.’ That is when you become addicted to these things and end up traveling no matter where the next one is,” said Joseph Rao, an eclipse chaser and guest lecturer at the Hayden Planetarium.

So, if like Mr. Rao, you’ve developed a raging case of umbraphilia — the love of eclipses — you’ll have three chances over the next four years to see the moon blot out the sun. The first, on Aug. 12, 2026, will start above Greenland, then strafe the west coast of Iceland and move along the Atlantic Ocean and over Spain. Almost a year later, on Aug. 2, 2027, another will skirt the Mediterranean coast of North Africa then cross Egypt and part of the Arabian Peninsula. The third, on July 22, 2028, will cut across Australia and the southern tip of New Zealand.

Future Eclipses

Eclipse chasers will have several more chances this decade to view a total solar eclipse .

Last week, as Victoria Sahami , the owner of Sirius Travel , was preparing to guide a group of tourists in Mazatlán, Mexico, for Monday’s big event, she was also planning for these other upcoming eclipses. Ms. Sahami joined the ranks of the eclipse-obsessed when she witnessed one in Venezuela in the 1990s. “Like many people, I was hooked. There was no going back,” she said.

Total solar eclipses happen fairly regularly — about every one to two years — in locations scattered around the world. “That’s the great thing about them: You wind up in places that you don’t normally go,” Ms. Sahami said.

A major spoiler is weather, which will be a big variable in the 2026 eclipse — one Greenland, Iceland and Spain will see.

“Iceland normally has a lot of cloud during that time of year,” said Paul Maley , who runs Ring of Fire Expeditions . “The data shows Spain to have the higher good-weather prospects of all three. However, the sun is low in the sky and the eclipse ends as the sun hits the horizon at sunset.”

Because of Iceland’s mercurial meteorology, Ring of Fire Expeditions is going all in on Spain, with a 10-day excursion on the mainland. Sirius Travel is offering not only a five-day trip to Majorca but also an eight-day tour around Iceland. It will be based in Reykjavik, and the itinerary will remain flexible on the day of the eclipse so the tour can easily pivot toward the location with the least cloud cover. Ms. Sahami recommends the trip for those who already have a few eclipses under their belt and would be happy just to take in the sights of Iceland if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

The 2027 eclipse, on the other hand, promises to be truly stellar: Luxor, Egypt — the site of numerous ancient temples as well as the Valleys of the Kings and Queens — sits right in the middle of the path of totality and will be bathed in darkness for a full 6 minutes 23 seconds. Weather-wise, it is what Ms. Sahami called “a slam dunk.” “You know you’re going to see it. You know that you’re not going to get any clouds,” she said.

But for all its potential, those considering Egypt should be aware that the State Department has a Level 3 “Reconsider Travel” warning for the country because of the risk of terrorism.

The 2028 eclipse will darken the skies over Sydney, Australia, for 3 minutes 49 seconds. It will be the first time the city has experienced a total solar eclipse since 1857. Ms. Sahami has her eyes on a trip based out of there, while Mr. Maley has chartered a cruise ship off the northwest coast of Australia. It will be winter there, he said, but that isn’t likely to mean bad eclipse-viewing weather.

University of South Carolina student takes the wheel to stop bus after driver is ejected in crash that injured 11

A t least 11 people - including 10 University of South Carolina students and a bus driver - were injured when a charter bus crashed in southern Mississippi Friday afternoon on the way to New Orleans for a fraternity formal, according to the university.

“The University of South Carolina was informed tonight of an accident in Mississippi involving a charter bus carrying USC fraternity members and their guests traveling to an event in New Orleans,” the university said in a statement to CNN.

The bus was carrying 56 students when it crashed around 3 p.m. on Interstate 10 in Hancock County, according to a news release from the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Nine students were taken by ambulance to a local hospital, while the bus driver and another student were airlifted in critical condition.

The driver lost control of the bus after one of its tires blew out, Bay St. Louis Police Chief Toby Schwartz told  CNN affiliate WLOX .

“According to what students said, she stood on that steering wheel with every ounce of energy to keep that steering wheel straight,” Schwartz said of the driver.

At one point, the wheels on one side of the bus lifted into the air, causing the bus to lean on one side. When the bus came back down on all wheels, the front windshield shattered and the driver was ejected, according to Schwartz.

But the bus kept moving. The bus traveled “out of control” for half a mile on the interstate, Schwartz said.

In what Schwartz described as a “heroic action,” a student grabbed ahold of the wheel and regained control of the bus, bringing it to a stop.

“Because of the bus driver’s quick actions, and then the students’ quick actions, right now we don’t have any fatalities,” Schwartz said.

The crash remains under investigation by Mississippi Highway Patrol.

“USC is working closely with local authorities on the scene to obtain updates on our students and to assist in whatever capacity we can,” the university said. “Our thoughts go out to the students involved in the accident and those affected by it.”

State Board of Education Approves Measure to Increase Charter School Transparency

LANSING – The State Board of Education has approved a resolution calling upon lawmakers to pass legislation that will make Michigan charter school finances more transparent.

Board members acted because they have become increasingly concerned with efforts nationally to privatize public education and shift move governance of schools from local communities to private and appointed boards, religious organizations, and for-profit corporations and nonprofits.

“Charter schools are technically public schools, so they should be expected to follow the same regulations regarding transparency as all public schools are required to follow,” said board member Dr. Mitchell Robinson, who introduced the resolution.

The vote came at Tuesday’s State Board of Education meeting.

“Our public schools are a vital part of our local communities,” said Dr. Pamela Pugh, president of the State Board of Education. “They should be governed by the people and not by outside groups that too often don’t support open government. Michigan spends more than a billion dollars annually on charter schools. Taxpayers must know how these dollars are being spent. Just as importantly, community members should be able to fully participate in important discussions and decisions that affect their public schools – including charter schools.”

Charter schools – also known as public school academies – are publicly funded schools that are separate from the traditional public school system. The schools receive charters from outside authorizing bodies that allow them to operate as public schools. Authorizers appoint charter school boards, a structure that contrasts with board members from traditional public school districts who are elected by local voters.

“Parents should be able to choose whether they want their children educated in traditional public schools, charter schools, private schools, or parochial schools, or at home,” said State Superintendent Michael F. Rice. “However, charter schools, like traditional public schools, are publicly funded and should operate in an open and transparent fashion with the involvement of their local communities.”

The resolution says the large number of charter schools in Michigan is a threat to democratically governed community-based schools. There are 285 charter school districts in Michigan responsible for 363 charter schools.

The resolution calls for legislation that would include provisions requiring:

• Review by the Michigan Department of Education for approval or denial of applications of new, replicating, or expanding charter schools after consultation with the local district in which the charter will operate.
• Transformation of for-profit charter management organizations to nonprofit charter management organizations within the state.
• Full and complete transparency in all financial matters related to revenues and expenditures for charter management companies.
• Charter schools to comply with the Open Meetings Act and Freedom of Information Act.
• Publication of detailed management contracts and detailed educational management organization expenditures by function on the charter schools’ websites.
• Charter schools and their management companies to follow all bidding laws and regulations.
• Prohibition of students from being excluded from attending a charter school, discouraged from enrolling in a charter school, or encouraged to disenroll based on behavior, academic achievement, disability, English-language proficiency, family status, or living situation.
• The prohibition of charter schools from refusing transfer students during the school year if the charter schools have available space.
• Strong encouragement that all charter school teaching and administrative staff increasingly hold certificates instead of short-term permits and that employees who are working while holding temporary or emergency permits are encouraged to become fully certified.

Previously, the State Board of Education in June 2021 voted to have the MDE draft Freedom of Information Act requests of a cross section of charter schools and education management organizations. The purpose was to determine to what extent charter schools and their education management organizations were held to the same standards of transparency as traditional public school districts. MDE found that 12 of 166 charter schools that were sent the requests didn’t respond, while all 112 traditional public school districts that were sent the request responded. MDE also found that financial data for most charter schools consisted primarily of purchased services and did not permit the same level of analysis and understanding as the financial data for traditional public school districts.

In December 2022 , the board approved an earlier resolution calling for legislative action requiring financial transparency for charter schools based on the findings from the Freedom of Information Act requests.
