Taylor Swift Confirms a 'Midnights' Tour Is Coming 'Soonish': 'It's Going to Happen'

Taylor Swift dropped her 10th studio album, Midnights , last week, and is reassuring fans that a tour will be coming "soonish"

Taylor Swift just delivered her newest album, Midnights — and now she's doubling down with a tour confirmation.

While filming The Graham Norton Show in London, which airs Friday night on BBC One, the "Bejeweled" singer-songwriter, 32, promised that her tour is just around the corner.

"We will sometime soonish. It's going to happen," Swift said when asked by host Graham Norton , adding, "We will do it and it will be great."

The Grammy winner also said she is "thrilled" over the fan response following her album drop last week.

"But I do think it's a little accusatory when people say I broke Spotify," Swift joked of smashing the record for most-streamed album in one day . "It was my gorgeous fans that broke Spotify!"

Though the singer-songwriter frequently expresses gratitude for her fans, Swift delved into how the re-recording of her catalog was something "deeply personal" to her after losing the rights to her music from her first six albums when she switched record labels.

"I am thankful to radio stations across the U.S. that will only play my new versions. It is so heartwarming," she expressed. "It is something that I care about but don't expect other people to care about it."

"It is a lot of work, but it is fun, and I can't believe people have got behind it the way they have," Swift added.

On her 10th studio album, Swift — who collaborated with Jack Antonoff , Lana Del Rey and boyfriend Joe Alwyn to make the magic happen — writes of love, revenge and public image in the 13 moody, yet versatile, song tracks.

Swift has already released music videos for "Anti-Hero" and "Bejeweled" in the week since Midnights ' release.

In the latter video, Swift is joined by a bevy of celebs including Laura Dern , Dita Von Teese , Pat McGrath , the HAIM sisters and Antonoff, 38, as she puts an empowering spin on the Cinderella story .

Taylor Swift Announces More Tour Dates: "Turns Out It's NOT the End of an Era"

Updated on 8/3/2023 at 1:40 PM

Taylor Swift has officially added more North American dates to her Eras Tour. On Aug. 3, just before the final shows of her initial US run, Swift revealed that she'll be playing 15 additional shows in four cities across America and Canada in 2024. "Turns out it's NOT the end of an era," she wrote in a social media post . "Miami, New Orleans, Indy and Toronto: The Eras Tour is coming to you in 2024 with @gracieabrams! Verified fan registration for all shows is open now – visit TaylorSwift.com for more information."

Swift first shared her vision for the Eras Tour with the world on Nov. 1, 2022, writing that it's "a journey through the musical eras of my career (past and present!)." The tour's first leg kicked off in the US in March, and will conclude in Los Angeles on Aug. 9. In June, Swift added 50 international dates to her schedule , including stops in the UK, Singapore, and more.

Despite some initial issues with Ticketmaster , Swift's Eras Tour has been a massive success by all counts. It's attracted stars (and their kids) , from Josh Gad and Reese Witherspoon to Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Garner, and it's also reportedly on track to become the highest-grossing tour of all time, per a June report in Pollstar . Swift has also netted praise for her elaborate outfits and thrilled fans with nightly surprise acoustic songs .

Swift initially teased that a tour was in the works on an episode of " The Graham Norton Show " that aired on Oct. 28, 2022. "We will sometime soonish. It's going to happen," she said of going back on the road. "We will do it, and it will be great."

The "Midnights" singer also teased the tour before during an Oct. 24, 2022, appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," when the late-night talk-show host pressed an answer out of her after pointing out the fact that she hasn't toured in four years. "We want you to," said Fallon, to which Swift replied, "I think I should do it." Fallon added: "When it's time, you'll let us know." "When it's time, we'll do it," Swift said, confirming his statement before she added how much she misses seeing her fans IRL.

Swift's record-breaking "Midnights" album dropped on Oct. 21, 2022, and she released " Speak Now (Taylor's Version) " on July 7. As Swift continues on with her star-studded Eras Tour, read on to learn everything you need to know, including the new show dates.

Taylor Swift has done it again, folks. On August 28, while accepting her record-breaking third Video of the Year award — and after acknowledging that for the first time, there were four (!!!) women directors in the category — Swift announced that she would be releasing her brand new album Midnights on October 21, 2022. It's her first new album since evermore in December 2020, and with the magical feel of fire and Swift's makeup, we are loving the grunge-meets-glitter aesthetic.

With lyrics like "And it's 2 a.m. and I'm cursing your name" in "The Way I Loved You" and "The lingering question kept me up. 2 a.m., who do you love?" in "Enchanted," we knew that this was one concept album that Swift would knock out of the park. And she did not disappoint — it's definitely one of her best albums ! Keep reading for everything you need to know about Midnights , the Eras Tour , and all her surprise songs .

How many 2024 Grammy nominations does Taylor Swift's Midnights have?

Image via Kevin Winter/Getty Images for The Recording Academy

The 2024 Grammy nominations were announced on November 10 and Taylor Swift got a total of six nominations: Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights, Best Pop Solo Performance for "Anti-Hero", Best Pop Duo/Group Performance “Karma (feat. Ice Spice)", Song of the Year for “Anti-Hero” with Jack Antonoff, Record of the Year for "Anti-Hero", and Album of the Year for Midnights .

She ended up winning Best Pop Vocal Album — but Taylor Swift's Midnights also won Album of the Year, making her the first person in history to win the award four times. Taylor continues to break records and we are totally here for it!

How many songs does Midnights have?

Taylor Swift's new album features 13 songs (which also happens to be her lucky number). We finally got the full tracklist on October 7 — or so we thought. After the whole album dropped at midnight on October 21, Swift made a surprise drop of seven extra tracks at 3am!

The album features some collabs. Track 4, "Snow On The Beach," features Lana Del Rey. We're over the moon because this has been a featured artist we've wanted for so long! Not only is Del Rey singing but Dylan O'Brien (who starred in All Too Well: The Short Film ) plays the drums on the track.

Swift worked with Jack Antonoff to produce Midnights , and wrote songs with Antonoff, Joe Alwyn, and Zoë Kravitz, among others. Jack recently opened up to Vulture about the process of recording the album, and admitted his close friendship with Taylor helped the process more than just about anything else — and how Midnights ' closer might not have made it onto the album!

"We made the bulk of [ Midnights ] in my apartment," he says in the interview. "['Mastermind'] a strange little song, and it just reminded me of the kind of thing that you can do with really close friends, whereas if it was a new relationship, you might not be able to dare to suck. Like, just try some weird shit. Because every once in a while, when you really throw yourself out there, you actually get the stuff that’s the most brilliant."

What is the Eras Tour?

See on Instagram

This is the first time Taylor Swift has gone on tour since ending the Reputation tour in 2018. Taylor Swift's newest tour covers all of her "eras, stories, songs, and late nights" together. Not only will fans get to see Swift but her opening acts include names like Paramore, Gracie Abrams, and Phoebe Bridgers. We're freaking out. As Miss Swift herself once said, "Baby let the games begin!"

Taylor also announced International Dates on June 20 and the second leg of the US tour on August 3! (Plus some extra Canadian dates November 2!) It's never too late to break out your best Taylor Swift costume and figure out concert tickets 👀.

In her December 2023 Person of the Year profile with TIME Magazine, Taylor talked about how she's known the tour was a big deal from the very beginning.

“I knew this tour was harder than anything I’d ever done before by a long shot,” she says. “Every day I would run on the treadmill, singing the entire set list out loud...Fast for fast songs, and a jog or a fast walk for slow songs.”

Taylor used a program her gym created just for her to help with her stamina, and worked with choreographer Mandy Moore, who BFF Emma Stone recommended. “I had three months of dance training, because I wanted to get it in my bones,” Taylor tells TIME. But instead of only training for endurance, she wanted to train for an even more important reason: “I wanted to be so over-rehearsed that I could be silly with the fans, and not lose my train of thought.”

And that's exactly what happened! Taylor has become so comfortable and confident onstage that she can make funny faces, improv dance moves, and mess around with her background dancers — and the show continues without a hitch. It's genuinely fun to watch and even more fun to recreate her dances! Taylor also admits that after a stretch of shows, she takes an entire day to relax and eat in bed, which might be the most relatable thing she's ever said.

Is You're Losing Me on Spotify?

Yes, "You're Losing Me" is finally on Spotify! In honor of Spotify naming Taylor Swift their Top Global Artist, she released the fan favorite track on streaming platforms. Before November 29, it had only been on exclusive physical copies of Midnights !

What is the Eras Tour Concert Film?

Taylor Swift fans can relive their concert experience thanks to the Eras Tour Concert Film, a fall movie that's in theaters now!

"The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon," Taylor Swift says in an Instagram post . "Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged 🫶"

What is Midnights about?

Midnights chronicles over a dozen different sleepless nights throughout Taylor's life. Fans speculated whether it would have a toned-down, alternative sound or be a rock album like the one fans are convinced was supposed to drop in 2016. Turns out, it has more of a dreamy, ethereal pop finish that feels like 1989 and reputation 's big sister. Once again, Swift masterfully pairs an upbeat, glittery sound with deep and emotional lyrics for an unbeatable combo.

As far as lyrics go, the songs cover the kind of love, heartbreak, and self-loathing that keep Swift (and us) up at night. Our favorite lines so far are "Falling in a dream/Stars by the pocketful" from "Snow on the Beach" and "Draw the cat eye sharp enough to kill a man" from "Vigilante Shit."

"You should find another guiding light, guiding light/But I shine so bright" from "Dear Reader" is another memorable line that reveals how difficult it is for Swift to have so many people looking to her in moments when it feels like her life is falling apart.

Where can I listen to Midnights?

Taylor Swift had a whole release week schedule full of late night appearances, music video drops, and record + CD drops. You can listen to the album on Spotify and Apple Music .

Are there any exclusive editions?

On Taylor Swift's official website, you can get the standard edition of Midnights , as well as three alternate versions. The cool thing is that when you put all four together, the images on the back turn into a clock! You can also buy the Midnights and displays.

Target is offering a lavender vinyl and deluxe edition CD , the latter of which features three bonus tracks you won't be able to get anywhere else.

Taylor announced on May 24 that her shows in East Rutherford, New Jersey (which she's playing May 26, 27, and 28) will be selling a special edition CD featuring the Midnights vault track "You're Losing Me."

Taylor Swift's Music Videos For Midnights

The video for “Karma (feat. Ice Spice)” has *so* many looks — and Easter eggs — that it's hard to keep track of all of them! Our personal favorite look is when Taylor's in the lightbulb. 💡

The video for the album opener, "Lavender Haze," was released on January 27 at midnight and features some seriously beautiful imagery. Check out our theory video here !

The video for "Bejeweled," an updated Cinderella retelling, was released on October 25th. This music video is filled to the brim with Easter eggs !

The music video for "Anti-Hero," which follows two separate Taylors who seem to be against each other, was released on October 21.

Taylor Swift released an acoustic version of the Midnights opener, "Lavender Haze" on March 31. It's so dreamy! We're obsessed with how the guitar and the different harmonies blend together. This will definitely be on repeat for all of 2023.

What To Expect From Taylor Swift’s 2023 Eras Tour

Swift added three additional Canadian shows to her never-ending world tour.

A collage of cover arts for all of Taylor's Swifts albums

Only three hours after Taylor Swift’s Midnights album arrived at midnight on Oct. 21, 2022, she gifted fans with a surprise “3 a.m. edition” of her 10th studio album with seven impressive bonus tracks . Even though Swifties had 20 new songs to enjoy, some fans quickly moved on to asking their next question: When will Swift finally go on tour again?

On Nov. 1, 2022, Swift announced her first tour in five years, The Eras Tour , which was originally supposed to kick off on March 18, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona. However, Swift added two more batches of tour dates (see the full list below!), for a total of 52 shows, and the tour began a day earlier in the same stadium.

The 12-time Grammy winner first announced her U.S. stadium trek on Good Morning America , revealing that her new show would represent all 10 of her studio albums, from her 2006 self-titled debut to Midnights.

What To Expect From Taylor Swift’s 2023 Eras Tour

“I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time. I’ve been planning for ages and I finally get to tell you: I’m going back on tour,” she said. “The tour is called the Eras Tour and it’s a journey through all of the musical eras of my career.”

The U.S. leg of the tour concluded on Aug. 9 at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, the NFL stadium that Swift was set to open on her 2020 Lover Fest tour before its cancelation.

Taking to Twitter , Swift confirmed that international dates would be announced “as soon as we can.” Those international shows started rolling out on June 2, when Swift announced that the Eras Tour would come to Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil in 2023, marking her first-ever shows in Latin America.

On June 20, Swift announced additional international Eras Tour dates in Europe, Asia, and Australia. “EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY,” the hitmaker wrote in an announcement . “I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates!” She went on to add a total of 23 more shows on those continents.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour 2023

On Aug. 3, Swift announced yet another string of shows in the U.S. and Canada next year, writing in a surprise statement: “Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era. Miami, New Orleans, Indy, and Toronto: The Eras Tour is coming to you in 2024.” It seemed like the tour would finally conclude in Toronto, but that’s not the case, as Swift announced three additional shows in Vancouver on Nov. 2.

The Eras Tour features rotating opening acts , including Paramore, HAIM, Phoebe Bridgers, beabadoobee, girl in red, Muna, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and Owenn. Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Tickets

For U.S. dates, tickets went on sale on Nov. 15, 2022, through a presale for CapitalOne cardholders and an exclusive TaylorSwiftTix presale. Swifties were able to register for TaylorSwiftTix through Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program until Nov. 9.

Fans who purchased tickets to Swift’s planned Lover Fest shows in 2020 were supposed to have priority access to the TaylorSwiftTix presale. The remaining tickets were scheduled to go on sale for the general public on Nov. 18, but due to unprecedented demand and the effect it was having on Ticketmaster’s servers, the general sale was canceled .

For the international shows, Swift encouraged fans to visit her website for ticket details, as each country will have its own presales and registration process to buy tickets. Prior to the UK shows being confirmed in June 2023, Swift’s UK store announced that customers who pre-ordered Midnights in the week leading up to the album’s release would receive a special pre-sale code for shows. Fans are now able to register for the newly added Vancouver shows until Nov. 4.

Taylor Swift's Midnights Album: Everything We Know About Her October 21 Release

“This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams.”

When 12 a.m. rolled around, Swift gave ample detail on what to expect with her 10th studio album—and revealed the album art.

Ahead, everything we know about the project.

When does the album come out?

Swift revealed the release date before anything else at the MTV VMAs: Friday, Oct. 21, 2022. It will be a midnight release like her previous other works, especially given its namesake. Fans pointed out that Oct, 21, 2022 is coincidentally Kim Kardashian’s birthday. But more telling is what the digitals add up to: 10 + 2 + 1 = 13, Swift’s beloved and common Easter egg number and the number of tracks on Midnights .

Swift provided a more detailed breakdown of the album's release schedule on Monday, October 17 at midnight.

  • Thursday, October 20: Teaser trailer during the third quarter of Thursday night football on Prime Video. Swift didn't specify whether this teaser trailer was for the full album or the “Anti-Hero” music video out on October 21 at 8 A.M. EST.
  • Friday, October 21, 12 AM EST: Midnights album release
  • October 21, 3 A.M. EST: “Special very chaotic surprise”
  • October 21, 8 A.M. EST: “Anti-Hero” music video premiere
  • October 21, 8 P.M. EST: Lyric videos for album
  • Tuesday, October 25, 12 A.M. EST: Second Midnights music video release. Fans theorized the song is “Vigilante Shit” because it and “Anti-Hero” are the only two tracks Swift held her phone upside during her track name reveal videos.

Is this album another re-recording?

No, Swift’s Oct. 21 album will be a new original work. During the Midnights announcement, Swift did not address when she would release her re-recordings of 1989 and Reputation.

What songs are on the album? Which will be singles?

Swift didn't initially share a track list, only that the album will feature a total of 13 new songs. During her midnight album announcement, she gave a little detail about what they’ll be about: “Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight.” She has not announced her first single yet.

Over time, Swift released more of the track names and ultimately the full track list.

  • Lavender Haze
  • Snow on the Beach
  • You're on Your Own, Kid
  • Midnight Rain
  • Question...?
  • Vigilante Shit
  • Sweet Nothing

She'll be releasing three bonus tracks with the Target edition of her album, which is available for pre-order now. The songs included are new track “Hits Different,” a string remix of “You're on Your Own, Kid,” and a piano remix of “Sweet Nothing.”

What is the album about? Are the songs based on Swift's life?

When Swift announced the project, she explained the premise and theme for her work. She wrote:

We lie awake in love and in fear, in turmoil and in tears. We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made ages and pray that we aren’t—right this minute—about to make some fateful life-altering mistake. This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching—hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve … we’ll meet ourselves. Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight.

Swift has spoken a little about what particular songs are about and revealed the first track , “Lavender Haze,” would address her six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn.

“Lavender Haze is track 1 on Midnights ,” she said. “I happened upon the phrase 'lavender haze' when I was watching Mad Men . I looked it up because I thought it sounded cool. And it turns out that it’s a common phrase used in the ’50s where they would describe being in love. If you in the ‘lavender haze,’ then that meant you were in that all-encompassing love glow. And I thought that was really beautiful.”

“I guess, theoretically, when you’re in the ‘lavender haze,’ you’ll do anything to stay there,” she continued. “And not let people bring you down off of that cloud. I think that a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just like ‘public figures,’ because we live in the era of social media, and if the world finds out if you’re in love with somebody they’re going to weigh in on it. Like my relationship for six years we’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it. So this song is about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.”

Ahead of the album's release, Swift revealed five themes that inspired Midnights on Spotify.

On Monday, October 17, Swift shared the first: “The first thing that kept me up at night that helped inspired the Midnights album is self-loathing.”

Will Swift go on tour for this album?

Swift hasn’t announced any tour dates yet. Her last announcement regarding touring was in February 2021, referencing her canceled Lover Fest tour dates and explaining why she had no plans to reschedule them. She wrote then:

I love coming on here to tell you good news, or to share a new project with you. It's not my favorite thing in the world to have to tell you news I'm sad about. I'm so sorry, but I cannot reschedule the shows that we've postponed. Although refunds have been available since we first postponed the Lover Fest shows, many of you hung onto your tickets and I too hung onto the the idea that we could reschedule. This is an unprecedented pandemic that has changed everyone's plans and no one knows what the touring landscape is going to look like in the near future. I'm so disappointed that I won't be able to see you in person as soon as I wanted to. I miss you terribly and can't wait 'til we can all safely be at shows together again. - Taylor Swift

But on September 30, 2022, a source told Page Six that she is definitely planning something soon, a “massive stadium tour” for the summer of 2023.

“Taylor has some really ambitious plans in place,” said one insider. “She’s excited to get back on the road after such a long but fruitful break.”

There were rumors circulating all through the month that Swift might be performing at the next Super Bowl Halftime show. The event is usually sponsored by Pepsi and Swift has an ongoing deal with Coca-Cola, but this year Apple took over opening the way for a possible Swift performance. TMZ reported that she turned the offer down because she doesn't want to perform until her older albums have been rerecorded. She still has Taylor Swift , Speak Now , 1989 , and Reputation to go. Will she actually finish them all by next summer? If anyone can, it's Taylor Swift.

Are pre-orders available? What about merchandise?

You wouldn’t expect Taylor Swift to be caught unprepared, would you? Of course pre-orders are available — and there’s merch! Fans can purchase Midnights in vinyl, CD, or cassette, in addition to the standard digital version. Both the vinyl and CD sets come with unique artwork/photography and a collectible booklet. There’s no answer to the folklore cardigan available on TaylorSwift.com just yet...but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as one drops.

Are there multiple album covers for Midnights ?

Absolutely. Swift ended August to sharing three special edition covers in addition to Midnights ' main cover. “August may have slipped away but September brings 3 new special edition covers!” Swift wrote. “Pre-order Midnights collectible cd versions and unique color vinyl versions now … 💁‍♀️🌌”

Here, a closer look at all the variants: Jade Green, Blood Moon, and Mahogany:

Has Swift offered any previews of Midnights ?

On Friday, September 16, Swift posted a TikTok she captioned: “The making of Midnights. ” The montage gave a bunch of hints to fans about the album's production. The clips in the video include shots of Swift at the keyboard, recording vocals, and spending some quality time with her cat Benjamin and wandering through a snow storm.

But the clips also reveal a glimpse of producer Jack Antonoff, seemingly confirming that he is again serving as producer on Swift's album. Variety reports that the TikTok includes a shot of Antonoff's studio.

In another recent TikTok , Swift explained to fans that there are four different album covers for Midnight , and when they are put together they form a clock to “help you tell time.”

Then on September 21, Swift posted yet another TikTok from a series called “ Midnights Mayhem With Me,” revealing track listing one by one. The first track revealed was Track 13 and titled “Mastermind.”

She chose to reveal that track name with a Bingo cage, each one printed with a difference song title. Swift has been posting the series one day at a time. Other names revealed so far are “Track 2 Maroon,” “Track 6 Midnight Rain,” “Track 7 Question...?,’ and “Track 8 Vigilante Shit.”

On Monday, October 17 at midnight, Spotify revealed the first lyric from the album in Times Square, New York City: “I should not be left to my own devices.” More will be revealed in the days leading up to Midnights ' release.

  • If you’d like to shop for tickets to multiple shows, you will need to join the Waiting Room for each one.
  • Please only join the Waiting Room once and only use one tab per show to reduce any delays.
  • Once you join the Waiting Room, do not close your page.

I got an email telling me that I’m on the Waitlist, what does that mean?

Due to extremely high demand, not all fans who register may be invited to purchase tickets during the TaylorSwiftTix Presale powered by Verified Fan. Should additional tickets become available, a select number of registered fans may be randomly selected to move off the waitlist. If this happens, you will be notified via text message.

Will there be a way to purchase tickets other than the TaylorSwiftTix Presale powered by Verified Fan?

Yes. The General Public On-Sale will be Friday, November 18 at 10AM local venue time.

Why do I see tickets available to purchase on another site before the TaylorSwiftTix Presale powered by Verified Fan has even happened?

Many unofficial sellers will list tickets before they even go on sale. This practice is called speculative listing and fans should not trust resellers claiming to have tickets. Those speculative listings are not real tickets in hand. Beware of these sellers. Learn more about speculative tickets here .

Will there be VIP packages available for the tour?

A limited number of VIP Packages + Tickets may be available at time of purchase. Check your event page for any VIP details.

What are the health check requirements?

Taylor Swift stares into the camera from the stage.

There’s no time like the present, Swifties.

On April 19, Taylor Swift dropped her 11th studio album “The Tortured Poet’s Department.” As expected, the 34-year-old singer-songwriter became the internet’s main character.

Some raved about the sprawling, ambitious double album; others criticized the record for its length, subject matter and lyrics.

All we know is that in the seven days that have passed, ticket prices to see Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ live have plummeted for most of her concerts in Europe.

Based on our findings, most shows have seats available that are significantly cheaper than they cost just a week ago.

In fact, some tickets are over $1,000 less than they were on April 19 already.

While it’s not the case for her U.S. and Canada gigs — where prices have mostly stayed flat or slowly risen — we’d argue it might be in your best interest to book tickets to an overseas ‘Eras Tour’ concert given this cooldown.

Want to find out how much tickets cost for ‘Eras Tour’ concerts versus what they were going for on April 19?

We’ve got everything you need to know and more about Taylor Swift’s 2024 tour below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Taylor Swift 2024 tickets

A complete calendar including all upcoming tour dates, venues, and the best ticket prices for all concerts versus what they cost on April 19 can be found here.

*The lower ticket price is in bold.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Taylor Swift set list

While Swift is known for dropping a surprise song or two into her shows, the tracks stay surprisingly consistent for most gigs (although that will likely change in the wake of “TTPD’s” release).

In any event, here’s what Tay Tay played at her final live show of 2023 in Brazil, according to  Set List FM :

Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ news

Our team has been following the ‘Eras Tour’ closely over the past year.

Over the past few months, we spoke to a Swiftie who  shared some helpful tips  about seeing Taylor live and  came up with a list of all the most exciting fan trends .

Taylor Swift new music

As noted above, Swift’s  “The Tortured Poets Department”  was released at midnight (and subsequently at 2 a.m.) on Friday, April 19.

While every listener will likely come away with their own favorites, we particularly enjoyed the sleek, synth-y “Fortnight,” icy “So Long, London,” anthemic “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” bombastic slow build of “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and gorgeously arranged “Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus.”

If you want to give it a spin — if you haven’t already, that is — you can find “The Tortured Poets Department”  here .

Taylor Swift opening acts

Taylor only has two opening acts lined up for the ‘Eras Tour’ this year.

Here’s what you need to know about her well-established special guests.

Paramore  will play alongside Swift after mounting a massive 2023 tour of their own. The group, fronted by lead singer Hayley Williams, reunited in 2022 after a five-year hiatus. For fans that want to check out their latest, you can listen to “This Is Why,” their sixth studio album, which dropped in February 2023.

Gracie Abrams , the daughter of film director JJ Abrams and producer Katie McGrath, is a star in her own right. Her song “I miss you, I’m sorry” has upwards of 100 million streams on Spotify, she opened for Olivia Rodrigo on the 2022 “Sour Tour” and headlined her own tour last spring as well.

Huge stars on tour in 2024

Although it will cost an arm and a leg (sometimes more!) to see Swift live this year, there are much more affordable concerts you can attend this year.

Here are just five of our favorite artists you won’t want to miss live.

•  Olivia Rodrigo

•  Kacey Musgraves

•  Pink

•  Chappell Roan

•  Alanis Morissette

Who else is on the road this year? Check out our list of the  50 biggest concert tours in 2024  to find out.

Music Reviews

Taylor swift's confessional 'tortured poets' would have benefitted from an edit.

thumbnail

Though Swift performs a range of experience and emotions, the music on her 11th album feels thin and is often in service of lyrics that could have used a red pencil.

TONYA MOSLEY, HOST:

This is FRESH AIR. Taylor Swift's 11th studio album, "The Tortured Poets Department," arrives as Swift ascends to the pinnacle of pop culture after the massive success of her 2023 Eras tour and the tour's blockbuster concert film. And as this album was being released, Swift added an additional batch of songs, bringing the total to a whopping 31 new songs. Rock critic Ken Tucker has been listening closely to "The Tortured Poets Department" and has come to think it might represent an end to a certain era in Taylor Swift's music.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "MY BOY ONLY BREAKS HIS FAVORITE TOYS")

TAYLOR SWIFT: (Singing) Oh, here we go again. The voices in his head called the rain to end our days of wild. The sickest army doll purchased at the mall - rivulets descend my plastic smile. But you should have seen him when he first got me. My boy only breaks his favorite toys, toys...

KEN TUCKER, BYLINE: I had a dentist appointment the day before the new Taylor Swift album was to be released at midnight. I swear I didn't bring it up, but the woman who cleaned my teeth did. At 11:45 P.M, I'm getting in my car, she said. I'm going to a convenience store to buy a warm beverage, and then, at midnight, I'm going to drive the deserted streets listening to the whole thing straight through, maybe more than once.

Such is the devotion Taylor Swift inspires at this point in her career, and it's a devotion Swift does her best to repay on "The Tortured Poets Department." And I must say, driving through empty streets at midnight would seem like an ideal way to experience a song of romantic revenge, such as "Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?"

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "WHO'S AFRAID OF LITTLE OLD ME?")

SWIFT: (Singing) The who's who of who's that is poised for the attack. But my bare hands paved their paths. You don't get to tell me about sad. If you wanted me dead, you should have just said. Nothing makes me feel more alive. So, I leap from the gallows and I levitate down your street, crash the party like a record scratch as I scream, who's afraid of little old me? You should be.

TUCKER: The album's title song is an impeccable deconstruction of a boyfriend's hapless hipster pretensions, a dude who thinks that using a manual typewriter qualifies him to be a real poet, and he wants her to play along as his muse. Instead, she sizes up both of them as, in her phrase, modern idiots.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT")

SWIFT: (Singing) You left your typewriter at my apartment, straight from the tortured poets' department. I think some things I never say - like, who uses typewriters anyway? But you're in self-sabotage mode, throwing spikes down on the road. But I've seen this episode and still love the show. Who else decodes you? And who's going to hold you like me? And who's going to know you if not me? I laughed in your face and said, you're not Dylan Thomas. I'm not Patti Smith. This ain't the Chelsea Hotel. We're modern idiots. And who's going to hold you like me?

TUCKER: Another moment that made me smile at Swift's gift for puncturing melodrama occurs in the chorus of "But Daddy I Love Him." As her character runs off with a boy as her father chases after them, and she yells her desperate rebellion over her shoulder, claiming she's pregnant - even as she tells us she's not - just to get a rise out of him.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "BUT DADDY I LOVE HIM")

SWIFT: (Singing) And I'm running with my dress unbuttoned, screaming, but Daddy I love him. I'm having his baby. No, I'm not, but you should see your faces. I'm telling him to floor it through the fences. No, I'm not coming to my senses. I know he's crazy but he's the one I want.

TUCKER: At a time when the rest of pop culture is overrun with kick-butt, tough, perfect, independent women, Swift performs the valuable service of reopening a whole range of experiences and emotions. On "Guilty As Sin?" she tells her audience there are times when she's weak or flawed or passive - times when, in a cleverly retrograde image she slips into the song, she dreams of having a guy write on her upper thigh that she belongs to him.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "GUILTY AS SIN?")

SWIFT: (Singing) I keep these longings locked in lowercase inside a vault. Someone told me there's no such thing as bad thoughts. Only your actions talk. These fatal fantasies giving way to labored breath, taking all of me. We've already done it in my head. If it's make believe, why does it feel like a vow we'll both uphold somehow. What if he's written mine on my upper thigh only in my mind? One slip and falling back into the hedge maze. Oh, what a way to die. My bedsheets are ablaze. I've screamed his name. Building up like waves crashing over my grave. Without ever touching his skin, how can I be guilty as sin? What if I roll the stone away?

TUCKER: The music on this collection - primarily keyboard textures decorated by guitars and light percussion - is always in the service of the lyrics, like so much of the folk music from which Swift has long drawn. This time around, though, there's frequently a thinness to the melodies and occasionally the need for a rewrite. An editor as smart as Swift probably should have taken a pencil to her use of the phrase fake news in one song and, in another, the sentence, you said some things I can't unabsorb. Oof.

The more I listened, the more this album felt like a turning point for Swift - a last big burst of confessionalism, a clearing of things off her desk before she makes another big shift in her sound and subject matter to leave tortured poetry behind.

MOSLEY: Rock critic Ken Tucker reviewed Taylor Swift's 11th studio album, "The Tortured Poets Department."

Tomorrow on FRESH AIR, we talk with writer Daniel Bessner about the threats facing the entertainment industry, like the merging of big studios and what it means for television and film writers and for us, the audience. His cover story for Harper's Magazine is titled "The End Of Hollywood As We Know It." I hope you can join us.

(SOUNDBITE OF SONG, "FORTNIGHT")

SWIFT: (Singing) I was supposed to be sent away but they forgot to come and get me.

MOSLEY: Our interviews and reviews are produced and edited by Amy Salit, Phyllis Myers, Sam Briger, Lauren Krenzel, Ann Marie Baldonado, Therese Madden, Thea Chaloner, Susan Nyakundi and Joel Wolfram. Roberta Shorrock directs the show. With Terry Gross, I'm Tonya Mosley.

SWIFT: (Singing) And no one here's to blame, but what about your quiet treason? And for a fortnight there we were forever running to you...

On Monday, she made history as the first artist to claim the entire top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart . And last week, she broke streaming records as "Midnights" became the most-streamed album in a single day, and Swift the most-streamed artist in a single day in Spotify history.

Pop sensation Taylor Swift begins her new tour— the Eras Tour —March 17, inviting fans to join her celebration concert of all her albums combined. These ten distinct albums, often referred to as her eras, show her journey throughout her whopping 17 years of music production. Swift fans, also known as “ Swifties ,” look forward to this long-awaited tour, and cannot wait to finally see Swift back on stage.

Originally set to finish off her “ Lover Fest ” tour, named after the album “ Lover ” in April of 2020, Swift, unfortunately, postponed the remaining dates of the tour due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The singer already performed 7 of the 10 shows for her Europe portion of the tour, when Covid-19 restrictions arose and the singer officially canceled the rest of the tour. Since then, Swift released six albums during Covid, including her most recent album, “Midnights” , which broke records after its release October 21, 2022.

Swift’s old management company, Big Machine Records , has produced the singer’s music since 2005 when she just turned 15 years old. In 2018, she left the company after publicly finding out about a $300 million deal one of the main managers for the label, Scooter Braun , made to sell the singer’s masters after he signed on as an executive with Big Machine.

Since then, Swift re-recorded two of her old albums, “ Fearless ” and “Red” , owned by Braun, and added her own personal touch at the end of the album titles known as “ Taylor’s-Version .” In these re-recorded albums, along with the original songs, came “ From the Vault ” songs which were never released with the albums. Within the re-recordings and four completely new albums all owned by Swift, fans continue to appreciate and show support to the singer for claiming the songs she deserves to own. In fact, prior to the opening night of the Eras Tour, Swift released one new previously leaked song and three new re-recordings. These unexpected releases stunned fans which left fans hopeful for future “Taylor’s-Version” albums.

“I think it [the tour] is an amazing opportunity for Taylor to not only show her tremendous skill but also her determination and dedication to her fans. I’m sure fans are excited about the Eras tour because they get to watch that subculture and their community be elevated,” magnet junior vice president Bianca Orflia-Molinet said.

When tickets were first released for the Eras tour presale in November 2022, a scandal occurred with Ticketmaster , causing several Swifties to become unable to buy tickets. After several hours of glitches and unsuccessful attempts to buy tickets, the inability to attend the concert haunted numerous devoted fans. Those that ended up with tickets now await the date of their concert spanning from March 17 to August 9 of 2023.

Several of the concert attendees decided to hand-make their outfits and costumes, or meticulously create a detailed ensemble to wear. The amount of effort put into the fashion design for the sole purpose of looking and feeling one’s best reflects on the night of the concert. A commonly seen trend in the attire for the show represents favorite albums or a mixture of symbols, quotes and colors on the outfits.

The first leg of the Eras Tour begins in the U.S., starting in Arizona and ending in California. Yet, international tour dates remain unreleased. Various other singers will open for the tour such as Phoebe Bridgers , beabadobee , Gracie Abrams and Paramore . Fans can enjoy the music of other artists they enjoy, or find some enjoyment in new music they do not know.

“I’m excited to see my favorite songs live and sing along with so many fans. I can’t wait to witness Taylor in person and hear her amazing vocals and performances that she remixes or tweaks up when performing live,” sophomore Tessa Saunders said.

Knowing her all too well, fans already picked up on a couple of clues during the first two shows of the tour, that they believe lead to Swift’s next project, a potential re-recording. After over a decade of albums, controversies and tours, Swifties remain enchanted by the singer and all of her talent that shows in her work and cannot wait to see the mastermind continue to shine bigger than the whole sky, in her new era.

Taylormania has finally arrived in Southern California.

Nearly five months after she launched her first road show since 2018, Taylor Swift is wrapping up the initial U.S. leg of her blockbuster Eras tour with six sold-out concerts at Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium starting Thursday night.

It’s a love story, L.A. just says yes: How Taylormania took over the world

Cultural dominance. History-making album sales. Sold-out stadiums. Add them up, and Taylor Swift’s current moment has little precedent in pop-music history.

Aug. 1, 2023

The tour ostensibly comes behind Swift’s 10th studio album, “ Midnights ,” which came out in October and immediately set a record for the most streams ever accumulated in a single day on Spotify. Since then the LP has been certified double platinum and spun off a No. 1 single in “Anti-Hero”; it’s also a strong contender for an album of the year nomination at February’s Grammy Awards.

As the tour’s name suggests, though, Swift’s live show — with dozens of songs spread over three hours or more — is meant to encompass the 33-year-old’s entire career, from her days as a teenage country phenom through her pop breakthrough with 2012’s “Red” to her current station as a kind of fairy godmother figure to a generation of younger songwriters including Gracie Abrams and Gayle, both of whom are among her opening acts at SoFi.

Couldn’t score a ticket to SoFi? On TikTok, one Swiftie has built a following by curating and broadcasting fans’ nightly live recordings of the singer’s three-hour sets.

Has any pop-culture event been more closely followed this summer? (Maybe “Barbenheimer.”) In addition to the hundreds of thousands of people who’ve taken in one of Swift’s gigs in person — driving gross proceeds toward an expected $1 billion or more by the time she’s finished circling the globe next year — the Eras tour has maintained a constant presence on TikTok thanks in the part to the show’s blend of novelty and familiarity: You know she’ll play a surprise song or two, but you don’t know which ones; you know she’ll place a hat on a lucky fan’s head during “22,” but you don’t know who the fan will be.

The ultimate guide to seeing Taylor Swift at SoFi Stadium

Parking! Public transit! Fan chants! Friendship bracelets! Everything you need to know before you see Taylor Swift at SoFi Stadium for the L.A. stops of her Eras tour.

Aug. 4, 2023

Might Swift, who revealed early Thursday that she’d scheduled a second round of North American dates next year, have even more up her sleeve in L.A.? The Times’ Mikael Wood and Suzy Exposito are at SoFi for opening night and will provide live updates from the show as it happens.

A fan with Taylor Swift merchandise at SoFi Stadium

6:12 p.m. Greetings from SoFi Stadium, where the struggle to park is real enough that I just saw somebody’s pink boa come hurtling out of a car window in what looked like frustration. (Hope they brought an extra.)

I’m Mikael Wood, The Times’ pop music critic, and I’m here with Times columnist Suzy Exposito for Night 1 of Taylor Swift’s weeklong … takeover? Residency? Not sure yet what we’re calling this.

In any event, tonight won’t be my first time seeing the Eras tour; I was there back in March for the road show’s opener in Arizona. But I’m excited to see what’s changed, what’s different and of course how palpable the crowd frenzy is now that folks know what’s coming. — M.W.

Wrists filled with friendship bracelets

6:35 p.m . The first of tonight’s opening acts is 23-year-old Gracie Abrams, a talented L.A.-based singer-songwriter — and the daughter of filmmaker J.J. Abrams — who told me recently that Swift has been such a formative influence that she can’t “remember a time in my life where Taylor wasn’t the immediate go-to inevitable soundtrack.” Abrams added: “She has scored every formative memory I have” — a level of influence I don’t think I’ve ever heard an artist describe before. — M.W.

6:47 p.m. One thing I know about the show now that I didn’t know in March: the existence of the little tent in which Swift’s celebrity pals watch the show. Will definitely cruise by and try to clock who’s there — minutes (hours!) behind the teens on TikTok, no doubt. — M.W.

Happy fans at SoFi Stadium.

7:04 p.m. “Hi, L.A. — this is so crazy,” Abrams tells the crowd of tens of thousands at the top of her set, which is certainly fair considering that I saw her play the comparatively tiny Fonda Theatre in Hollywood just a few months ago.

Abrams’ Swift standom is no less intense onstage than it was in our interview: “This tour has been beyond our wildest dreams,” she says, going on to describe the Eras tour as “the best thing that’s ever happened.”

And yet she’s doing her breathy and introspective chamber-folk tunes with a poise that belies however amped she is inside. — M.W.

Gracie Abrams performs at SoFi Stadium.

7:05 p.m. A true Angeleno, Abrams asks the audience if they were at Swift’s “1989” shows at Staples Center — before the dreaded name change to Crypto.com Arena — back in 2015. — M.W.

7:10 p.m. A pre-show anecdote that Swifties (and their moms) should be able to relate to: As evidenced by the barren shelves that were once filled with letter beads, it was clear that fans had ransacked craft stores all over greater Los Angeles this week to partake in the Eras tour tradition of wearing homemade friendship bracelets to the concert. I searched Hollywood, Glendale and Pasadena — where at Michael’s, an agitated woman, likely some young girl’s mother, began flinging packets of beads with only numbers on them. “I can’t believe I’m doing this,” she swore under her breath, before smiling wryly at me. “It’s ALLLLL for the TikTok!” she said with a laugh. — Suzy Exposito

7:22 p.m. Next up as the evening’s second opening act is Haim, the sly L.A. sister trio who’ve been opening for Swift for what seems like eons. As with Abrams, I caught Haim recently at a small club (in this case the just-opened Bellwether); curious how they fare in the gigantic stadium setting. — M.W.

7:37 p.m. “Any Valley girls here tonight?” asks Alana Haim, whose sister Este volunteers that she was “born and raised in the 818” — Tarzana, specifically. (Este leaves the precise coordinates of her sisters’ origins unstated.) Then the trio rips into “Want You Back,” accompanied by video of a stroll down Ventura Boulevard where Sherman Oaks edges into Encino. — M.W.

7:48 p.m. Haim is really bringing the laid-back, ‘70s country-rock vibe to SoFi. These L.A. witches are a fitting opener for what’s essentially the biggest coven gathering this city’s seen in years. — S.E.

Haim's Danielle Haim performs at SoFi Stadium on Thursday.

7:52 p.m. Haim closes with “The Steps,” which feels like the rawest rock song I’ve heard at SoFi since … the Rolling Stones in 2021? — M.W.

7:56 p.m. Between the “Barbie” movie and the Eras tour, it’s been a banner summer for girl culture. I love seeing girlfriends (straight and gay) here, in their matching boots and fuzzy cowboy hats. Taylor is obviously not just for girls — dads too, and I’ve seen several guys here sporting tiaras, sequins and/or pink — but to be a girl feels aspirational in a place like this, even if it’s only for the next six nights. — S.E.

Fans at SoFi Stadium.

8:13 p.m. Spotted in the celebrity tent: Babyface! — M.W.

8:25 p.m. We happen to be seated next to Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt of “The Hills” fame. Heidi’s favorite Taylor era? “Folklore.” His? “Reputation.” I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Speidi kindly gifted me a bracelet of beads from their shop, made of rose quartz and jade. Thanks y’all! — S.E.

8:29 p.m. Taylor time: Swift opens with “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince,” as she has every show on the tour, before moving into “Cruel Summer,” which has become an honest-to-goodness radio hit three years after its release. The roar of the crowd is absolutely deafening. — M.W.

Could Taylor Swift mania fuel a COVID cruel summer? What you need to know

Could Taylor Swift’s mega-tour have fans seeing red on their next COVID test? Here’s how officials say concertgoers can help protect themselves.

8:34 p.m. Swift dons a sparkly suit jacket to sing “The Man,” which she’s staging amid an old-school scene a la “Mad Men.” — M.W.

8:35 p.m. The tens of thousands of Swifties wearing light-up bracelets are glowing across the stadium for her song of LGBTQ solidarity, “You Need to Calm Down.” Taylor is for lovers! — S.E.

8:38 p.m. “Is there anyone here who put in an extensive amount of effort to be with us here tonight?” Swift asks. Then she wants to know if this extra effort can be put into two categories: “lyric memorization and your cute outfit?” With regard to cute outfits: seeing many a sparkly cowboy hat. And, yeah: Basically every human here knows every word to every song. — M.W.

8:48 p.m. Swift has come out to the end of her stage runway to sing “The Archer,” which means it’s time for the folks next to us to hold up their signs and shake them in the hope that Swift sees them. Directly in front of us: A girl of probably 8 whose sign reads “SLAY.” — M.W.

8:54 p.m. We have moved from the “Lover” era to the “Fearless” era, and what I’m thinking about as Swift sings the “Fearless” title track is how she’s managed to renew her fan base with young people who don’t view these songs as juvenile but as utterly up-to-date evocations of young love. Who else has grown up with her audience at the same time that she’s replaced it? — M.W.

8:59 p.m. Internet rumor had it that these SoFi shows were set to be filmed for a concert movie of some sort. Can confirm that there are multiple cameras on cables soaring above the crowd. — M.W.

9:00 p.m. Key change in “Love Story”? Still totally epic. — M.W.

Taylor Swift plays a guitar while her hair flies on stage.

9:02 p.m. We’re into the “Evermore” era with an assist from Haim, who’ve joined Swift for “No Body No Crime.” — M.W.

9:11 p.m. Was “Willow” as deliciously witchy as this when I saw her in Arizona. I don’t remember Taylor in a cape and her dancers holding glowing orbs, as they are here tonight. — M.W.

9:14 p.m. Swift is singing “Marjorie” and there is a woman in front of me shaking her hair and convulsing like Elaine Benes in “Seinfeld.” She must have caught the spirit — or had one too many margaritas. — S.E.

Taylor Swift in a floor length yellow dress and Danielle Haim on guitar perform onstage.

9:20 p.m. “We have a lot to catch up on, musically speaking,” Swift says, before explaining that the reason she didn’t tour for five years was because we had “much more important things we had to worry about” amid a “global pandemic.” Once she got back on the road, she says, people would ask her if she intended to play, “like, a three-hour show.” Yes, she says — that’s exactly what she intended to do. Cue “Champagne Problems.” — M.W.

9:22 p.m. Swift is taking a minute, head resting upon her moss-covered piano, to take in the crowd’s adulation. — M.W.

Taylor Swift plays her mossy piano.

9:30 p.m. Swift is staging “Tolerate It” as a dismal dinner with a partner completely uninterested in what she has to say about her day. Spend a second thinking about how wild that is for a stadium pop show. — M.W.

9:32 p.m. We hear boots clacking ominously across the stadium. The “Reputation” era is nigh. — S.E.

9:35 p.m. The “Reputation” portion of the show starts with “Ready for It,” which is — what would you even call this song? Confessional trap? (Please don’t call it that.) — M.W.

9:45 p.m. Wild to remember how controversial “Look What You Made Me Do” was when it first came out — for Swifties, this song is basically “Hotel California.” — M.W.

9:49 p.m. Hear me out — “Look What You Made Me Do” is a killer electroclash song that made it to the airwaves 15 years too late. — S.E.

9:52 p.m. We’ve reached the halfway mark — insane, obviously, given that the show has been going for 90 minutes — with “Enchanted,” which has the crowd singing along in fairy-tale abandon. — M.W.

9:59 p.m. Time for the “Red” portion, for which this crowd seems very, very primed. — M.W.

10:05 p.m. Spotted during “22”: Este Haim dancing in the aisle. — M.W.

10:10 p.m. “There is one more song from the ‘Red’ album that I wanna do,” Swift says. “Do you have about 10 minutes to spare?” — M.W.

10:11 p.m. Imagine: Over 60,000 Taylor fans screaming about Jake Gyllenhaal’s “F— the Patriarchy” keychain. — S.E.

10:13 p.m. “All Too Well”’s “little kid with glasses” line will never not get me. — M.W.

10:18 p.m. At the risk of giving into Taylormania, who else is out here regaling stadium crowds with 10-minute dissections of relationships gone wrong? It is truly insane that the summer’s biggest pop tour is also its most emotionally complicated. — M.W.

10:20 p.m. “All Too Well” also made for a really beautiful moment: I saw several moms cradling their up-past-their-bedtime daughters. — S.E.

10:23 p.m. Still left to go: “Folklore,” “1989” and “Midnights.” — M.W.

10:30 p.m. Hearing “The 1” really takes me back to that morning in pandemic-plagued 2020 when Swift announced that “Folklore” was coming later that evening. Seems like an eternity ago. — M.W.

10:34 p.m. Wielding a mahogany guitar, Swift is perched atop a frame of a woodsy two-story house covered in leaves and moss. Jamming below is her trusty band. “This is a rendering of what I imagined in my head when I started writing ‘Folklore’ — two days into the pandemic,” she says. “I took the time to imagine myself not as a lonely millennial woman covered in cat hair and watching 70 hours of TV at a time… but as a Victorian woman writing on parchment with a quill in the woods and living in this house.” — S.E.

10:35 p.m. Have to love when an entire stadium of people sings, as in “Betty,” about a moment of being told to “go f— myself.” — M.W.

10:42 p.m. During “August,” Taylor lived out her best Kate Bush fantasy by sprinting across the stage in a flowing white gown — then came crashing down to her knees as she cut to “Illicit Affairs.” High drama! — S.E.

10:47 p.m. “Illicit Affairs” tonight sounds like … a Disturbed song? Can’t say I can recall another moment when Taylor leaned as heavily into her aggro side as she’s doing right now. — M.W.

10:53 p.m. The conventional wisdom on “Folklore” and “Evermore” was that Swift made these albums knowing that touring wasn’t an option. But it’s fascinating to hear how she’s configured these songs for the biggest stages in the world. They’re dirty but polished, confessional but anthemic, intimate yet geared to the needs of more than 60,000 people seeking some kind of catharsis. — M.W.

Taylor Swift and dancers perform onstage.

11:00 p.m. Pop Taylor has arrived. We are into “1989” with “Style” and “Blank Space,” the latter of which has two dancers riding bikes down the stage runway as Taylor swings a light-up golf club. — M.W.

11:02 p.m. “Shake It Off” is as bad tonight as it was when it came out a decade ago. Moving on... — M.W.

11:09 p.m. “Welcome to the acoustic set,” says Swift. — M.W.

11:18 p.m. For tonight’s surprise songs, Swift does “I Can See You” (from “Speak Now”) on guitar, and “Maroon” (from “Midnights”) on piano. — M.W.

11:19 p.m. At the time, “I Can See You” was — and honestly still is — a risqué song compared with the rest of her oeuvre, a psychosexual thriller told from the point of view of teenage Taylor. — S.E.

Taylor Swift and dancers lean forward on stage at SoFi Stadium in front of the crowd.

11:22 p.m. Now we are into the “Midnights” era, with a video of splashing waves that turn into a moody-looking cloud. — M.W.

11:23 p.m. Oh, Swift is in pop diva mode, performing “Lavender Haze” wearing a purple feathered robe. — M.W.

11:27 p.m. All I have to say about “Anti-Hero” is that the image of a giant “lurching toward your favorite city” remains one of the most indelible of the 2020s. — M.W.

11:34 p.m. At the heart of “Midnights” is the intimacy between a superstar and her therapist — bless them, wherever they are — and we get the transcripts in the language of synth-pop. — S.E.

11:35 p.m. Do I love “Vigilante S—“? I do not. It might be the corniest song in Swift’s catalog — a catalog that includes “Welcome to New York!” But she is giving it her all tonight, with 10 dancers serving up big “Chicago” energy — M.W.

11:38 p.m. We’re well past the three-hour mark as Swift starts up “Mastermind.” — M.W.

11:41 p.m. “I will never forget this,” Swift says as her band revs up “Karma.” — M.W.

11:45 p.m. And that’s a wrap, on a genuinely epic night of music. Now, to try to get out of this stadium... Thanks for reading! — M.W.

What Taylor Swift's new album means for her $1 billion fortune

  • Taylor Swift's new album, " The Tortured Poets Department ," is almost guaranteed to be a bestseller.
  • But no matter how well it does, it won't be the way Swift earns most of her money this year.
  • The remaining leg of her Eras Tour is expected to add much more to Swift's billion-dollar fortune.

Insider Today

Taylor Swift released her new album, " The Tortured Poets Department ," at midnight, and, in what should be no surprise to anyone on this planet in the year 2024, it caused a scene.

Her album garnered millions of streams within hours. There's almost no doubt it'll top the Billboard chart like the 13 Swift albums before it.

But no matter how many platinum certifications it collects or streams it racks up on Spotify, "The Tortured Poets Department" won't be Swift's biggest money-maker this year.

The remaining leg of her Eras Tour — kicking off in Paris next month and running through December — is instead expected to be what contributes most to her fortune, which Bloomberg estimated to be $1.1 billion last year.

"Live music is the engine of the global music business," Clayton Durant, an adjunct professor at NYU Steinhardt's Music Business Program who's the founder of CAD Management, told Business Insider. "Her tour is probably going to earn 10 to 15 times more than her streaming."

Swift's Eras Tour brought in more than $1 billion in ticket sales last year over its 66 dates. By the end of this year, she's set to have played another 86. Swift's cut is unknown, but based on industry standards, she'll surely earn nine figures in 2024 from ticket sales.

Concerts don't only bring in money from ticket sales.

Pollstar estimates that Swifties spend an average of $40 a head on merch at her concerts — that adds up to about $175 million in gross merch sales last year. Swift's camp keeps the majority of that.

Bloomberg estimated that between box office and merchandise, Swift pocketed $225 million, pre-tax, from her first 57 Eras Tour dates. Career earnings from ticket sales and merchandise account for 34% of her total net worth, while earnings from music streaming and sales account for 18%, Bloomberg estimates.

But the music industry didn't always function this way. Before the advent of streaming, musicians made most of their fortune selling CDs, cassette tapes, and vinyl records .

"Physical music sales made up the bulk of artists' revenue pre-streaming, and that revenue was what enabled artists to tour. These days, the equation has flipped," Tatiana Cirisano, a senior music-industry analyst at MIDiA, told BI over email.

Streaming made listening to recorded music much cheaper. For less than the price of one CD — or for free, illegally or with ads — people could get all the songs they wanted.

"The moment Napster hit, it changed the paradigm, and it really honestly diluted the value of music," Durant said.

To be sure, Swift is still making tens of millions, if not more, on streaming and record sales each year — more than almost any other artist on the planet.

Streaming services such as Spotify pay out artists on a pro-rata model: There's a pot, made up of subscription and ad revenue, paid out to artists each year. Those with the biggest share of the platform's total streams get the biggest piece of it.

But "if you're an individual artist, you have to have a pretty massive audience to be able to earn a meaningful share of that revenue — which is paid out to you after your label gets its cut," Cirisano said.

Last year, Swift was the most streamed artist on both Apple and Spotify. One of every 78 songs streamed in the US last year was a Swift song, according to the music-data firm Luminate. She'll probably rank at or near the top again, between " The Tortured Poets Department " and a streaming lift from the second leg of her Eras Tour.

Swift is also set to earn more than most artists from physical music sales. Last year, she was responsible for one out of every 15 vinyl records sold, according to Luminate. Cirisano said Swift's rabid followers saw physical records as "a symbol of fandom" and a way to support Swift.

That said, without Eras, Swift would just be a poor centimillionaire.

Taylor Swift Has Given Fans a Lot. Is It Finally Too Much?

Swift has been inescapable over the last year. With the release of “The Tortured Poets Department,” her latest (very long) album, some seem to finally be feeling fatigued.

Taylor Swift, on a platform, surrounded by men in suits.

Four new studio albums. Four rerecorded albums, too. A $1 billion oxygen-sucking world tour with a concert movie to match. And, of course, one very high-profile relationship that spilled over into the Super Bowl .

For some, the constant deluge that has peaked in the past year is starting to add up to a new (and previously unthinkable) feeling: Taylor Swift fatigue.

And it is a feeling that has only solidified online in the days following the release of “The Tortured Poets Department,” which morphed from a 16-song album into a 31-song, two-hour epic just hours after its release .

Many critics (including The New York Times’s own) have suggested that the album was overstuffed — simply not her best. And critiques of the music have now opened a sliver of space for a wider round of complaint unlike any Swift has faced over her prolific and world-conquering recent run.

“It’s almost like if you produce too much… too fast… in a brazen attempt to completely saturate and dominate a market rather than having something important or even halfway interesting to say… the art suffers!” Chris Murphy, a staff writer at Vanity Fair, posted on X .

Which is not to say nobody listened to the album; far from it. Spotify said “Poets,” which was released on Friday, became the most-streamed album in a single day with more than 300 million streams .

And of course, many of Swift’s most ardent fans, known as “Swifties,” loved her 11th album or, at least, have decided to air any reservations in private conversations. The first days of the album’s release have been greeted with the usual lyrical dissections for key allusions hidden within the songs, attention to every word that few other artists receive.

But others, including some self-identified Swift fans, have freely admitted frustration. Fans and critics alike have contended that Swift’s lyrics have become a tad verbose and that the tracks on this latest album — many of them breakup songs — sounded a whole lot like others she has already put out . The internet has also provided an almost unlimited supply of jokes about the length of the album .

Some admonished Swift for selling so many versions of “Poets” only to double its size after those orders were in, part of a cynically corporate rollout . (Care for the CD , vinyl or the Phantom Clear vinyl ?) The Daily Mail cobbled together what it deemed “The 10 WORST lyrics in Taylor Swift’s new album — ranked!”

For its part, Reductress , the satirical women’s magazine, offered a post titled “Woman Doing Her Best to Like New Taylor Swift Album Lest She Face the Consequences.”

Those who dare to publicly criticize Swift are acutely aware of the potential for backlash. Murphy, the Vanity Fair writer, made a dark joke about it . At least one X user who posted a lengthy thread eviscerating Swift, the album and its rollout took the post private after it got more than three million views. Paste Magazine opted not to put a byline on its harsh review of Swift’s album, citing safety concerns for the writer.

In an unusual twist, even Swift herself is widely viewed as admonishing her most militant defenders in one particular song on the new album, “But Daddy I Love Him.” Some contingents of Swift’s fanbase strongly disapproved of her brief relationship with Matty Healy of the 1975 and appear to now be bristling at the amount of record real estate Healy consumes on the latest album .

Weird, complicated times in Taylor land.

“It might be a tough few days for the fanbase,” Nathan Hubbard, a co-host of the Ringer podcast, “ Every Single Album ,” wrote in a social media thread about “Poets” on Friday . “They’ll hear some valid criticism they aren’t used to (if the critics dare), and for many they’ll have to reconcile their own truth that this isn’t their favorite, while still rightly celebrating it and supporting her.”

Indeed, grinding through the 31-song double album after midnight had felt like “a hostage situation,” Hubbard wrote.

On a new podcast episode, which was released over the weekend, Hubbard and his co-host, Nora Princiotti, were among those who pointed out that while the album may be imperfect, Swift simply may have needed to purge herself of the songs on “Poets” to process a turbulent time in her life.

Princiotti said she enjoyed much of the album and was careful to stipulate that “Poets” did contain several “special songs.”

But she also allowed for some “tough love.”

“Musically, I do not really hear anything new,” she said, adding that Swift “could have done a little bit more self editing.”

“I don’t think the fact that this is a double-album that is more than two hours in length serves what’s good about it,” Princiotti said. “And I think that for the second album in a row, I’m still sort of left going, ‘OK, where do we go from here?’”

Princiotti ultimately graded “Poets” a “B.” And in the world of her podcast and universe of Taylor Swift, Princiotti acknowledged — that might have been an all-time low.

An earlier version of this article misstated the title of Taylor Swift’s new album. It is “The Tortured Poets Department,” not “The Tortured Poets Society.”

Is Taylor Swift Teasing ‘Tortured Poets Department’ Additions to the Eras Tour?

  • By Jon Blistein

Jon Blistein

Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour was already a marathon — three hours, a 45-song setlist on average — and now, ahead of the European leg of the trek, she has 31 more tracks from her new album , The Tortured Poets Department , to choose from.

Swift returns to the stage in just under two weeks, with a four-night run in Paris, May 9 through 12. And in anticipation she shared a video of her preparations on YouTube Shorts that some fans think may be teasing some TTPD editions.

To start, the video is set to “Fortnight” — the album’s lead single and, well, the European tour does start in a fortnight — but eagle-eyed viewers have also picked up on a quick shot of her background dancers in top hats and canes, an ostensibly fresh addition to the wardrobe.

Even still, it feels reasonable enough to guess — without forensic dissection of a YouTube Shorts clip — that the new era of the Eras Tour will feature some tracks from The Tortured Poets Department because, well, that’s what artists do when they go out on tour: Play their new album. It’s probably just a question of whether this puts a few songs on the chopping block, or Swift truly says, “Fuck it,” and adds another 30/45 minutes to the show.

The European leg of the Eras Tour will run through the summer, wrapping with a five-night stand in London in August. After that, Swift will play a final round of shows in North America , with concerts scheduled in Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Toronto, and Vancouver.

What to know about Taylor Swift’s surprise double album drop overnight

Swift dropped ‘the tortured poets department’ at midnight late thursday. she had something else in store a couple of hours later..

taylor swift concert midnight tour

As Taylor Swift accepted the Grammy Award in February for best pop vocal album for “Midnights,” she informed the audience that she had been keeping a secret for two years: She had recorded a new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” and it would be released on April 19.

When Swift said “two years,” she held up two fingers, which under normal circumstances is a regular human hand signal. However, Swift’s die-hard fans know her all too well … and when the lead-up to the record included more references to the number two, they suspected something was up.

There’s a peace sign… ✌️👀 pic.twitter.com/MtvbuyUgwt — Taylor Swift News 🤍 (@TSwiftNZ) April 16, 2024

And they were correct — Swift dropped the 16-song record on midnight Eastern time late Thursday, and then two hours later at 2 a.m., announced a surprise: It was actually a double album titled “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology,” with 15 additional songs. (We can only imagine how much Swift was laughing at the people who thought they got the best of her when the first half leaked on Thursday.)

It was a fitting addition for a project that repeatedly reminds listeners that they don’t really know the pop megastar at all behind the scenes — and she has gone through quite a journey dealing with the complexities of fame. Here are the main things to know about the album.

Yes, a major theme is heartbreak

Based on the title, you could guess there would be lots of angst on the record, in addition to some of the track listings alone: “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can),” as well as “So Long, London” — the latter of which is the fifth track, which all Swifties know is a spot that she saves for her most personal songs. Before the release, Swift created a series of playlists for Apple Music that categorized songs from her discography by the five stages of grief.

Swift does deliver lyric after lyric about devastating heartbreak: “You swore that you loved me, but where were the clues?/ I died on the altar waiting for the proof,” she sings on “So Long, London.” And on “LOML,” usually internet-speak for “love of my life,” she changes the words to “loss of my life.”

She drops (a few) hints about the subjects of her songs

Swift rocketed to stardom as a teen country singer when she hid clues in the liner notes about the real-life boyfriends and crushes in her lyrics. That practice stopped when she became a global superstar — but as usual, fans are already hard at work dissecting who, exactly, Swift is singing about on these tracks. (“I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you,” Swift posted Friday on social media.)

The obvious assumption before the album’s release was that many songs would be about British actor Joe Alwyn, whom Swift dated for six years before they announced their breakup in April 2023. But upon hearing the lyrics, fans instead caught more apparent references to Matty Healy, lead singer of British band the 1975, to whom Swift was romantically linked for a couple of months last year. (People magazine, for example, noted that on “Guilty as Sin?” she name-drops the Blue Nile, Healy’s favorite band.)

Swift, who has given very few details about the timeline of “Tortured Poets,” said that she started recording it after she finished “Midnights” (presumably in late 2021 or early 2022) and continued through the Eras Tour that launched last spring. So it’s unclear whether the timing would have worked for her to include her relationship with Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce — but there are some sports-themed lines in “The Alchemy.”

The Style section

Swift is not thrilled about the opinions on her relationships.

While Swift and Healy were spotted together multiple times, and he showed up at a few of her concerts, they never confirmed they were an item. Still, many people were upset that Swift was associated with the controversial singer, given that he has been criticized for offensive comments over the years, such as laughing and agreeing on a podcast when a host made racist comments about the rapper Ice Spice. Some fans launched a campaign called #SpeakUpNow that asked Swift to address and condemn his behavior.

Swift has not talked about Healy publicly, but on Friday morning, listeners were already drawing the line between the public outcry and her lyrics on “But Daddy I Love Him.” Swift had some harsh words for strangers who judge her: “God save the most judgmental creeps who say they want what’s best for me/ Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I’ll never see, thinking it can change the beat of my heart when he touches me.”

“I’ll tell you something about my good name,” she sings, “It’s mine alone to disgrace.”

She buries hatchets but keeps maps of where she puts them

That’s Swift’s way (on 2017 song “End Game”) of saying she holds grudges — something that still holds true today. She absolutely skewers an unnamed ex on “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” (“I would have died for your sins, instead I just died inside/ And you deserve prison, but you won’t get time”).

The second half of the album is filled with songs titled with proper names: “Cassandra,” “Robin,” “Peter,” “Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus.” But one is called “Thank You Aimee,” stylized as “thanK you aIMee” … which fans immediately recognized spells out “Kim,” also known as a longtime Swift nemesis known as Kim Kardashian . The song is peppered with expletives directed at Aimee, leaving no confusion about how she feels about a certain someone.

However, in a brief statement on Instagram, Swift wanted to let listeners know that she doesn’t plan on looking backward for much longer, describing “Tortured Poets” as “an anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time — one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.”

“This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed,” Swift continued. “And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.”

Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department is here, but it could be a logistical nightmare for the Eras Tour

A black and white photo of Swift holding up The Tortured Poets Department, and peering through the transparent vinyl

Get ready for another Taylor Swift era.

The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD) is the superstar's 11th studio album and is being released around the world today.

It'll be dropping the second the clock hits midnight on the east coast of America, which will be this afternoon in Australia.

  • 2pm AEST : ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria
  • 1:30pm ACST : Northern Territory and South Australia
  • 12pm AWST : Western Australia

So far, we know the album is a whopping 16 songs (not including bonus vinyl tracks) and features multiple collaborations, including with Florence + The Machine.

We also know the first single will be Fortnight featuring Post Malone, with a music video dropping tomorrow morning as well.

Despite no singles being released in its lead up, clues point to TTPD seemingly being inspired by the five stages of grief : denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

Plus, many fans have speculated that the album title is a reference to the name of a group chat Swift's ex was part of – The Tortured Man Club.

And while The Tortured Poets Department could very well set new streaming records, it also poses a logistical nightmare for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour: how do you include yet another album into a show that is over three hours long?

Below, two ABC reporters and Swifties weigh up the likelihood of how the megastar might adapt her sell-out tour when it recommences in Europe next month.

We could lose some songs from every era to make room

Jessica : This seems like the most likely course of action. To put things into perspective, the Eras Tour includes songs from nine albums, but their airtime varies wildly. Lover, Folklore and Midnights have at least six songs, while Speak Now gets just two. So this might be a chance to balance things out?

Georgie : It would make the most sense to me. I can't imagine a tour that doesn't spend at least some time on the freshest music. But, this is a unique scenario. You have an artist who is essentially doing a greatest hits tour at the age of 34 while she is still churning out new music.

If she does cut music to make room for Tortured Poets, it will be very divisive. Every fan has their favourite era. But, I think if she was to I would hope she cuts songs she has already toured. You have to remember she put out four (now five) albums since her last tour and I imagine it would make the most sense for her to give more air time to Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights and TTPD.

Jessica : If you were in charge of Taylor Swift's setlist, which songs would you cull? I'd ditch The Archer from the Lover era so it ends with, well, Lover. I'd be ruthless and cut most of the songs from the Red era as nothing compares to All Too Well (10 Minute Version). But keep the Reputation portion as is! It's perfect.

What if smaller eras, like Fearless and Speak Now, got cut altogether?

Taylor Swift performs in a glittering lavender ballgown.

Jessica : I love chaos so I would not bat an eye if Taylor Swift dropped the entire Speak Now era from her tour. (But Enchanted is such a core memory for a lot of fans.) I know this might be a wild concept but there's not one song from her self-titled debut album in the Eras Tour (justice for Our Song!), so make of that what you will.

Georgie : I think this will cause a major generational divide. The beautiful part about the Eras Tour is you have fans new and old coming together. Taylor has been making music since 2009 and the Eras Tour has been a chance for people in their twenties and thirties to dress up in glitter and be teenagers again while sharing the new music with teenagers today. I'm a folklore girl through and through so I am hoping if any eras get sacrificed it's the older ones. But I can't lie, it's pretty special to belt out Love Story with thousands of other people.

Could we lose the two surprise songs for a few Tortured Poets hits?

Georgie : Controversial opinion but I would be ok with this. Although, take this as you want because I have experienced the Eras Tour. But the section is a gamble anyway. You never know what she's going to play and someone is always disappointed or their top pick is played another night. If you cut this section, no-one gets hurt. Maybe she subs it out for three best songs from TTPD?

Jessica : I missed out on tickets for the Eras Tour altogether so I was taken aback seeing fans who did score tickets complaining about which night got "better" surprise songs. You can't please everyone! I agree, this would level the playing field and take the comparison factor out of the tour… but I wonder if that uniqueness is a marketing factor as some super fans attend multiple concerts in the same city.

Sabrina and Taylor smile at each other on stage at a piano that’s decorated with painted flowers

Imagine if she just… didn't play her new album

Georgie : Don't say it or it might come true!

Jessica : I think this would be the riskiest option. Imagine the disappointment on the first night when the tour recommences in Paris on May 9. But some fans, especially in America, who witnessed the Eras Tour last year before this album was announced feel it's unfair if other countries get a different experience. But that's what happens with the passage of time!

Georgie : I see your point but you have to remember we're in an age where many people have watched the Eras Tour happen through TikTok and the cinema release. So is it really missing out when it's been inescapable for over a year? This could be a chance for the people who have waited so long for the Europe leg – who have basically watched the tour on streaming and all over TikTok – to have something unique and worth the cash.

Or she could just include the new album and make the show nearly *four hours* long?

Jessica : I think this option would please the most fans, but I genuinely don't know how she performs for hours on end each night and then travels through different time zones. Oh,  to be a billionaire with a whole team taking care of everything all the time.

Georgie : I don't see this happening. Costs would skyrocket and many stadiums have a noise curfew. That's new costumes, sets and dance routines.

Jessica : But I would eat up new costumes, sets and dance routines! A four-hour concert is outrageous, which makes me think she might very well pick this option. Time will tell.

Georgie : I'm obviously a Swiftie but when I found out about the new album and what that might mean for the tour I just felt… overwhelmed. I'm still processing the release of four albums and two Taylor's Versions in four years. And now she's putting out new music? It's simply too much! The concert is a marathon but if I did have to go to a four-hour show, I'd do it for Ms Swift.

The worst option: Swapping All Too Well (10 Minute Version) for the radio edit to save time

Jessica : Sacrilegious.

Georgie : The people would riot. Jake Gyllenhaal would be thrilled though.

Final thoughts

Jessica : With everything going on in the world, I think this is a fun problem to ponder, and an interesting one for Taylor to tackle. I wish her well in whatever form the Eras Tour takes, because fans are going to have strong opinions either way.

Georgie: I worry that Taylor needs a holiday but, as you said, she's a billionaire now so I think she'll be fine. I hope she tours future albums but I also support her having a rest. Go chill with the cats and Travis. You've danced in high heeled boots for two years.
