The Best Tour in Town

Our professional and friendly crew will guide you along the way. Your captains will be there to provide you entertaining, insightful, and informative commentary about everything you see!

To begin you will get a close look at Toronto’s bustling western Harbourfront. Then across the harbour you will enter the lagoons of the Toronto Islands and get right into the heart of the islands, seeing historic Hanlan’s Point, the Island Yacht Club, and the woodlands of the Island Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary (keep your eyes peeled for a variety of local birds and wildlife, including beavers and white tailed deer!). Further into the islands you will see its serene park space as you cruise along Long Pond, a functioning race course at many times throughout the year.

After cruising through the heart of the island lagoons we come back into the harbour and cruise along at the perfect vantage point to take the best pictures of Toronto’s skyline. You will hear all about Toronto’s famous buildings such as the CN Tower, the Rogers Center (aka Skydome), and our many skyscrapers. As the boat takes you eastward you will also see Toronto’s industrial harbourfront, including a fully functioning sugar refinery. Finally, as we head back you will see the eastern shore of Toronto’s waterfront where you will see the City ferry docks and some of the luxurious waterfront condos.

As we come back into our slip, you should have some great photos on your camera, and some great memories of your visit to our lovely city!

The use of Harbourfront Centre Marinas and other properties is for pleasure craft only. The use of our managed properties for the boarding or discharge of passengers for any commercial purpose is forbidden and will be reported to Police, Ports Toronto and Transport Canada Marine Safety. Those deemed to be operating illegally or fail to comply with Harbourfront Centre policies and procedures or the terms and conditions in our marina agreement including City of Toronto By-laws will be banned from the site and issued trespass notices.

Marina Four is a semi-protected, 90-slip marina located within our campus, adjacent to Harbourfront’s outdoor Concert Stage and the many activities that define Harbourfront Centre. If you would like to dock at the centre of it all, select Marina Four. Slips within Marina Four are best suited for boats 24 to 30 feet in length. We have some visitor dockage within the marina for this range. We offer several visitor slips on the south side of E dock within the harbour for boats up to 50 feet in length.

Short term dockage may also available for pwcs, inflatables and dinghys. Washrooms, showers and coin laundry are available. Visitor reservations are accepted for overnight dockage only. Seasonal slip availability may be limited – please call for details.

Upon receipt your e-reservation will be reviewed and staff will contact you to advise whether it is accepted or denied. Washrooms, showers and coin laundry are nearby. 50-amp power is available on John Quay for three boats using a single outlet each. Check out is 11:00 a.m. on the scheduled date of departure.

Short Term Dockage

Short term dockage for three hours or less (space permitting) for a flat rate fee based on boat size is ideal for a weekday lunch visit at a local restaurant patio, attend a Harbourfront outdoor performance or to pick up supplies from local Waterfront BIA retailers. Slips on the John Quay boardwalk or the south side of E dock on the outside of Marina Four for short term dockage may be available on a first-come first-served basis for three hours or less. However, we advise you to always contact the Marina Office ahead of arrival as outlined below as space can be limited on a busy summer evening or weekend. The pick-up and drop off of groups of persons is expressly forbidden.

Once secure vessel OWNERS must immediately proceed to the Marina Office to fully complete, sign and date a mandatory marina agreement and make the associated payment for the Dock Attendant approved duration of stay. SEASONAL SLIP APPLICATION (for May 1 to Oct 15 dockage)

Before applying, please review our marinas (see above) to determine the most suitable location based on your boat size, applicable dockage rates and marina preference.

If you have an existing account with Harbourfront Centre Marinas through Harbour Assist (new as of January 31, 2023), log in here . If not, please proceed by clicking one of the applicable boxes below.

Marina Quay West Summer Season Slip Application

Apply here for May 1 to Oct 15 dockage

Please ensure that you have reviewed the details of this marina before applying.

Marina Four Summer Season Slip Application

All reservation applicants must agree to the Marina Agreement Terms and Conditions and adhere to said terms throughout the term of the lease.

Harbourfront Centre Marinas are now accepting applications for season long slips for the applicable described boat types and sizes. Summer Season Slip occupancy term generally runs from the beginning of May to mid-October. Winter Seasonal Slip occupancy term generally runs from mid-October to the end of April. Visitor Reservations are for short term visits from one night to twenty-nine nights (one month).

Valid approved renewal applications will be processed first, followed by the review of valid submissions on the wait list provided suitable open slips are available. Applicants may be subject to interviews, credit, reference or Criminal Records checks.

Harbourfront Centre reserves the right to amend any part of its reservation process, including seasonal term, based on COVID-19 Public Health guidelines and Government requirements.

Summer Seasonal Slip

Summer season slip occupancy term is normally May 1 to October 15. It should be noted that in 2020, the winter term was extended and the summer term shortened as a result of Government emergency orders. The term therefore is subject to change depending on COVID-19 status.

Additionally, in 2020 fewer slips than anticipated were sold as a result of public health guidelines regarding physical distancing and use of shared facilities. Agreements will be amended or cancelled should public health guidelines require fewer slips to be used.

Winter Seasonal Slip

Winter seasonal slip occupancy is from approximately October 26 to April 26.

Previous summer or winter tenants are invited to apply in advance of the general public for the upcoming season.

Seasonal Slip Application Review Process

All applications are reviewed on a first come, first evaluated basis. Harbourfront Centre has the right to accept or decline any applicant. No slip is guaranteed.

All applicants are placed on a Waiting List until slip assignments are confirmed in writing via email, deposits paid and insurance submitted. All names are added to the electronic waiting list on a chronological basis upon submission. Only electronic form submission applications will be considered. Verbal or emailed requests will not be considered.

Depending on the timing of applicant’s submission, slip availability may or may not be known. If an appropriate slip becomes available for your sized boat (both length and beam apply) you will be contacted and given further instruction. All new applicants will be required to meet with marina staff for an interview. Harbourfront Centre may contact your previous marina or yacht club for both character and financial references.

Historically, only a small number of slips become available at either marina each season for new applicants due to the popularity of our convenient downtown location and smaller size of the marinas.

Both of our marinas were primarily designed for smaller sized boats. Channel and slip widths are engineered for smaller vessels. We regret that we are not able to accommodate many larger boats. If slips are released they will likely be for boats under 32 feet in length with beams of less than 11 feet as this is the size of slip or smaller that make up the majority of each marina.

The use of Harbourfront Centre properties is for pleasure craft only.

Upon docking alongside the wooden faced boardwalk please tie up to the large bollards and pipe rail designed to secure pleasure craft. Launching Your Boat

If you wish to bring a boat into Toronto Harbour and need to launch it from a trailer you have two possible launch options. Unfortunately neither are downtown. These locations are east and west of the city core. Fees for launching at these locations may apply.

The ramp in the west is located in Humber Bay Park. This park is located in Etobicoke on Lakeshore Boulevard West just west of Park Lawn Road. Heading east towards the City exit at Park Lawn Road from the collector lanes of the Gardiner.

The eastern ramp is located in Ashbridges Bay Park on Lakeshore Boulevard East at the bottom of Coxwell Avenue.

In both locations follow the blue ‘Boat Launch’ signs on Lakeshore Boulevard.

To reach Toronto’s Inner Harbour you will have to head into Lake Ontario and across Humber Bay from the west or navigate around the Outer Harbour East Headlands from the east. It is most important that you carefully monitor the weather including wind direction and speed. Taking a small boat on either of these voyages in adverse conditions is not advisable!

Please Note

If you wish to launch via a crane or travel lift, please contact Outer Harbour Marina at 416 778 6245 or another local service provider to make arrangements.

If you have a larger boat being delivered by truck please contact another local Marina such as Outer Harbour Marina to schedule a launch date as Harbourfront does not have a marine yard and equipment able to do so.

if trailering your boat from one lake to another, be sure to comply with all prevention measures to eliminate the possibility of the transfer of invasive species. To learn more visit the Ontario Invasive Species Awareness Program (OISP) .

Boating and the Environment

It’s our environment… let’s protect it!

Boating Ontario, along with member marinas, have been enrolling in the Clean Marine Program to ensure that their marinas are following an environmentally sound series of practices and protecting our waterways for all to enjoy. All Clean Marine Program Eco-rated Marinas proudly fly the Boating Ontario environmental flag. See the bulletin board in your marina to view a copy of the awarded certificate or ask a staff member for details.

Just as Boating Ontario member marinas have committed themselves to follow environmental practices, you can too! Look for products with Environment Canada’s Environmental Choice logo to use around your boat. Properly separate and discard recyclable materials and please DO NOT place hazardous wastes such as old batteries and motor oil in waste receptacles.

Harbourfront Centre is a partner in the Floatables Strategy ( www.uofttrasheam.ca ) along with University of Toronto Trash Team, Toronto Region Conservation Authority, Ports Toronto, City of Toronto, Swim Drink Fish, The Waterfront BIA and Waterfront Toronto. The strategy is a great collaborative effort with a mission to reduce plastic pollution and other floating litter in Toronto Harbour. Harbourfront facilitates this effort by providing locations to install trash trapping devices such as Seabins, associated educational signs and space to hold public events.

April 12, 2024 - Israel-Hamas war

By Chris Lau, Sana Noor Haq, Adrienne Vogt , Matt Meyer and Tori B. Powell , CNN

Our live coverage of Israel's war on Hamas in Gaza has moved  here .

USAID worker killed in Israel, agency says

From CNN's Jennifer Hansler

A staff member with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) died Friday in the Israeli port city of Jaffa, the agency announced.

The male staffer was with USAID’s West Bank and Gaza mission, the agency said in a brief statement.

USAID did not provide details on the circumstances around his death or his identity or citizenship.

“He was a dedicated member of our team for more than two decades, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues,” USAID said.

USAID is working with the US Embassy to work out details about the fatal incident and its follow-up investigation, it said.

US expects Iran to carry out direct strikes against targets inside Israel, sources say

From CNN's MJ Lee and Natasha Bertrand

The United States currently expects Iran will carry out strikes against multiple targets inside Israel and that Iranian proxies could also be involved in carrying out the attacks, according to a senior administration official and a source familiar with the intelligence.

The targets would likely be both inside Israel and around the region.

The beginning of a state-on-state conflict between Iran and Israel would mark a serious escalation in the region that the US has hoped to avoid.

US sees Iran moving military assets including drones and cruise missiles, sources say

From Natasha Bertrand and Oren Liebermann

The US observed Iran moving military assets around internally, including drones and cruise missiles, signaling that it is possibly preparing to attack Israeli targets from inside its own territory, according to two people familiar with US intelligence.

It is not clear whether Iran is preparing to strike from its soil as part of an initial attack, or if it is posturing to try to deter Israel or the US from conducting a possible counter strike on its territory.

One of the people said the US had observed Iran readying as many as 100 cruise missiles.

Some context: The Iranians want their retaliatory strike on Israel — a response to the Israeli strike on an Iranian consulate last week in Damascus — to be "significant," one of the people familiar with the intelligence said. But they also want to avoid getting embroiled in a direct war with Israel and the US, CNN has reported, which is why US intelligence has assessed that Iran may use its proxy forces to launch the first attack.

Israeli settlers storm village in West Bank and kill at least 1 Palestinian. Here's what you should know

From CNN staff

A view of damaged houses and burning vehicles after a raid by Israeli settlers on a town near Ramallah, West Bank on April 12.

Hundreds of armed Israeli settlers stormed a village in the occupied West Bank on Friday, setting fire to several homes and cars — and leaving at least one Palestinian dead — in one of the largest attacks by settlers this year, according to Palestinian officials.

The settlers attacked Al-Mughayyir village, east of Ramallah, raided homes and fired gunshots at residents, according to Amin Abu-Alia, the head of the village council. Videos obtained by CNN show parts of the village burning, with smoke billowing over several buildings and settlers lobbing rocks. Houses and cars are seen completely burnt up, with sounds of gunfire and clashes heard in the background.

Here are other headlines you should know:

  • More Israeli attacks: An Israeli airstrike early Friday killed at least 29 people and injured dozens more after troops targeted a house belonging to the well-known Al-Tabatibi family in eastern Gaza City, according to a local health official. Israeli forces also surrounded and attacked the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, wounding several journalists and at least one other person. And in the occupied West Bank, troops killed two Hamas members in a raid on the city of Tubas, according to Israeli and Palestinian officials.
  • Hezbollah-Israel clashes: Around 40 rockets were fired from Lebanon on Friday evening, according to the Israeli military. Some were intercepted and the rest fell in open areas, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement. Israeli warplanes also carried out several airstrikes on Friday, targeting "military buildings" used by Hezbollah fighters in parts of southern Lebanon, the IDF said.
  • Iranian threats: US President Joe Biden told reporters Friday he expects an attack from Iran will happen “sooner than later," with the White House adding that there is a "very credible" threat of Iranian retaliatory strikes against Israel. Additionally, the US Defense Department is moving additional assets to the Middle East region, a defense official told CNN, as the US and Israel brace for the potential attack . Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and US Central Command Commander Gen. Erik Kurilla on Friday discussed preparations for the  potential attack .
  • Warnings amid Iranian threats: France , Germany, Canada and the United States are among countries that are warning their citizens not to travel to the region due to the threat of an Iranian attack against Israel.
  • Humanitarian aid: The Israeli military does not understand how humanitarian operations work, a top United Nations official said Friday, maintaining there is a "degree of mistrust" that needs to be resolved between the IDF and nongovernmental organizations on the ground in Gaza.
  • Sanctions: The European Council has  adopted sanctions  against three Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad entities , in light of "their responsibilities in the brutal and indiscriminate terrorist attacks" that occurred across Israel on October 7. The US is also sanctioning four leaders of Hamas’ cyber and drone operations based in Gaza and Lebanon, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller announced on Friday.

US will attempt to intercept launches at Israel if feasible, US officials say

From CNN's Oren Liebermann and Natasha Bertrand

The US will attempt to intercept any weapons launched at Israel if it’s feasible to do so, two US officials told CNN, in an indication of the level of ongoing cooperation between the two militaries before an anticipated Iranian attack .

US Navy forces in the Red Sea have previously intercepted long-range missiles launched from the Houthis in Yemen toward Israel. US forces in Iraq and Syria could also potentially intercept drones and rockets targeting northern Israel, depending on the location from which they’re launched.

Gen. Erik Kurilla, the commander of US Central Command, has been in Israel meeting with the country’s security leadership. On Friday, the Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, met with Kurilla.

There have been a number of conversations where US officials have urged Israel not to escalate the situation in retaliating against Iran, according to one of the US officials.

Remember: An Iranian attack is expected in response to Israel’s deadly strike of Tehran's consulate in Damascus, Syria, last week.

The Damascus attack was the latest incident to stoke fears of a wider regional conflict breaking out in the Middle East during Israel's campaign in Gaza.

Diplomatic efforts: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has held a slew of calls to foreign counterparts aimed at pressuring Iran not to attack Israel.

The top US diplomat spoke with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Friday, according to a readout from State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

Blinken also spoke with the Turkish, Chinese and Saudi foreign ministers in recent days, Miller said.

Israeli settlers kill at least 1 Palestinian while storming West Bank village

From CNN’s Kareem Khadder and Zeena Saifi in Jerusalem and CNN’s Benjamin Brown in London

A view of damaged houses and burning vehicles after a raid by Israeli settlers on a town near Ramallah, West Bank on April 12.

Hundreds of armed Israeli settlers stormed a village in the occupied West Bank on Friday, setting fire to several homes and cars in one of the largest attacks by settlers this year, according to Palestinian officials.

At least one Palestinian man was killed when shots were fired by Israeli settlers in the village of Al-Mughayyir, east of Ramallah, according to the head of the village council Amin Abu-Alia. He said he identified the killed Palestinian as his 26-year-old relative named Jihad Abu-Alia, who was meant to get married this summer.

At least 25 others were injured in the rampage, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah, the scale of which has not been seen since hundreds of settlers stormed through the villages of  Turmusayya  and  Huwara  in two separate incidents last year.

Between 1,000 and 1,200 settlers surrounded the village, and around 500 stormed it just after midday local time on Friday, blocking all the roads in the area, Abu-Alia told CNN.

He added that Israeli security forces informed Palestinian officials that the settlers were looking for a 14-year-old Israeli boy who had gone missing earlier in the day.

They attacked the village, raided homes and fired gunshots at residents, Abu-Alia said. Videos obtained by CNN show parts of the village burning, with smoke billowing over several buildings and settlers lobbing rocks. Houses and cars are seen completely burnt up, with sounds of gunfire and clashes heard in the background.

According to Abu-Alia, the Israeli military arrived at the scene at around 3 p.m. and didn’t stop the settlers from attacking the village. Israeli soldiers allowed them to raid homes, prevented Palestinian residents from moving around and blocked ambulances from reaching the injured, he added.

Abu-Alia told CNN settlers stole approximately 70 sheep from the Palestinian village.

In response to a question by CNN, the IDF said “violent riots were instigated in multiple locations in the area” following the search for the boy.

Israel says airstrikes targeted Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon

Israeli warplanes carried out several airstrikes on Friday, targeting "military buildings" used by Hezbollah fighters in parts of southern Lebanon, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

The areas include the Aita al-Shaab and the Taybeh in southern Lebanon, said Avichay Adraee, I DF spokesperson for Arab media,  in a post on X.

"During the day, several shells were fired from Lebanon towards the Upper Galilee region, without causing any casualties. IDF forces attacked the sources of fire," Adraee added.

The Israeli airstrikes were before the 40 rockets that were launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel Friday evening and claimed by Hezbollah.

Biden expects an attack from Iran will happen "sooner than later"

From CNN's Samantha Waldenberg

US President Joe Biden gives remarks in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the White House campus on Friday in Washington, DC.

US President Joe Biden expects an attack from Iran will happen “sooner than later," he told reporters at the White House Friday.

“I don’t want to get into secure information but my expectation is sooner than later,” Biden said when asked how imminent an attack on Israel was.

Asked what his message to Tehran is right now, the president said “Don’t.”

In response to more shouted questions from reporters asking if American troops were at risk, Biden returned to the podium and said that the United States is "devoted” to the defense of Israel.

“We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed,” Biden said.

Remember: The United States says it is on high alert for a significant Iranian retaliatory attack following Israel's deadly strike on Tehran's consulate in Damascus last week, raising fears of a wider regional war. There remains a “real,” “credible” and “viable” threat of Iran launching strikes, the White House said earlier Friday, following Israel’s attack on  a diplomatic compound in Syria that killed three Iranian generals.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

Fact or Fiction: Scottie Scheffler Will Win Second Masters, Debating $20 Million Purses

SI Golf’s writers and editors debate the increased purses at Augusta National, Bryson DeChambeau’s entertainment value and why golf fans love to watch Tiger Woods.

  • Author: SI Golf staff

In this story:

Welcome to the Masters Moving Day edition of SI Golf’s Fact or Fiction, where Scottie Scheffler has a one-stroke lead over Collin Morikawa entering Sunday’s final round.

We’re here to debate a series of statements for writers and editors to declare as “Fact” or “Fiction” along with a brief explanation. Responses may also (occasionally) be “Neutral” since there's a lot of gray area in golf.

Do you agree or disagree? Let us know on the SI Golf X account.

Scottie Scheffler showed he was human in playing Nos. 10 and 11 in 3 over Saturday, but recovered to shoot 71 to get to 7 under and take a one-shot lead to Sunday. He will win his second green jacket.

Bob Harig: FACT. That one-shot advantage might not seem like a lot, but that extra edge might just be what he needed. He recovered nicely from his mistakes Saturday and his presence on the leaderboard all week has seemed inevitable. So does a second green jacket.

John Pluym: FICTION. Scheffler recovered beautifully, going 3 under over the final six holes. But I’m going with Morikawa to win the tournament. He’s improved his score by one stroke with each round, so if he shoots 68 on Sunday, I like his chances.

Jeff Ritter: FACT. Scheffler entered the week as The Man to Beat and that still applies. He’s hardly a lock—I don’t expect Morikawa to crack alongside him on Sunday—but there’s no doubt this is Scottie’s Masters to lose.

John Schwarb: FACT. Collin Morikawa had an inspired Saturday and will give Scheffler a fight in the final group, but this felt inevitable after Scheffler won the Players and I’m not going back on that now.

PGA Tour golfer and six-time Masters winner Tiger Woods

Woods shot an 82 in the third round, his worst score ever at the Masters.

Katie Goodale, Katie Goodale / USA TODAY

One day after setting a Masters mark for consecutive made cuts , Tiger Woods plummeted down the leaderboard with a career-worst 82 at Augusta . An over-par, out-of-contention Tiger is better than no Tiger at all.

Bob Harig: FACT. That Tiger is competing at all given all he’s been through is amazing at this point. He gave his fans a thrill Friday and it wasn’t there Saturday. Perhaps it is now asking too much of him, but if he is to have any chance at competing down the road, he needs to finish tournaments. A solid Sunday would at least be something for him to build on. And Tiger has earned the right to handle this however he chooses.

John Pluym: FACT. I walked the back nine at Augusta National on Wednesday. And after close to 15,000 steps, I said to Jeff Ritter, “I can’t believe Tiger can do this on one leg.” I have more appreciation for him as a grinder than as a great golfer. And I’ll take Tiger in any tournament more than any other golfer in the game. He’s one of the best ever and it’s a treat whenever we get to watch him play.

Jeff Ritter: FACT. Scheffler-Morikawa could turn into a titanic duel. But every great heavyweight fight needs a compelling undercard, and Woods playing Augusta National on Sunday fits the bill.

John Schwarb: FACT. This is the new normal for the mortal and fragile legend, as one day’s grind can be followed by a mess. And WDs can never be ruled out. But an electricity remains around Tiger that every event would love to have and fans still want to see him.

LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau celebrates after draining a 77-yard shot for birdie on No. 18.

Adam Cairns, Adam Cairns / USA TODAY

Bryson DeChambeau made two pars over his last 11 holes Saturday, making four birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey but finishing with a thrilling holeout birdie at 18. He may not win this Masters but no one is more exciting to watch in golf.

Bryson DeChambeau finishes with a bang. #themasters pic.twitter.com/I6zMUYB2MA — The Masters (@TheMasters) April 13, 2024

Bob Harig: FACT. This week has been a solid reminder of all the variables DeChambeau brings. He’s playing with irons that were just approved by the USGA earlier this week and cost a small fortune to build. He lauded a new driver he put in play just before shooting 58 in the final round of the LIV Greenbrier event. He pulled a sign out of the ground Friday. That guy talks a different language sometimes, but he’s entertaining.

John Pluym: FACT. It’s all or nothing with DeChambeau. I love the sound his club makes after contact with the ball. He hits it all over the place but it is entertaining. And I agree we need to be able to watch the best players in the world regardless of what tour they play. He’s basically become the WWE of professional golf.

Jeff Ritter: FICTION. DeChambeau is great and this week I’ve realized just how much I (and I suspect most of the PGA Tour-following golf world) has missed him. But he’s No. 4 on my list behind Woods, McIlroy and Spieth in terms of exciting players to follow—it feels like anything is possible for any of them when they arrive at Augusta.

John Schwarb: FACT. I was thrilled and a bit wistful at the same time in watching the Mad Scientist on Saturday, remembering how many wild rides he had on the PGA Tour. Can the pro game please get its act together so we can see Bryson more often on network television?

Continuing the theme of increased riches in golf, on Saturday the Masters announced a purse increase to $20 million . Given its stature, this event doesn’t have to keep paying more in prize money—and shouldn’t.

Bob Harig: FACT. The Masters might be the one event where the prize money doesn’t matter. Perhaps that is a silly notion in this day and time, and given how much money Augusta brings in, it is fair to argue that it should pay the players—the reason all that money can be made—their fair share. The Masters didn’t have the highest purse of the majors last year and ultimately might not this year. So what?

John Pluym: FICTION. Should Patrick Mahomes get paid $60 million per year? Yes. Because he’s the best player in professional football. It’s no different in professional golf. The best players in the world deserve to be paid like it and if the Masters can keep increasing purses to reward the best players, they should keep doing it. Let’s face it: A $25 million purse isn’t far off.

Jeff Ritter: FACT. The Masters can pay its participants whatever it wants. It is, and always will be, the Masters. But Pluym is also right: Next year’s purse will probably crack $25 million. It’s just the nature of the game today.

John Schwarb: FACT. There’s something a little gross about annual increases and the Masters has had them three years in a row, keeping up with the other majors. Want to bet against another bump next year? But the Lords of Augusta could say “enough is enough” and hold at $20 million for the foreseeable future. I don’t think any invitations will be turned down.

Iran launches missiles, drones at Israel, marking unprecedented escalation of regional tensions

tour agency harbourfront

( JTA ) — Iran launched missiles and more than 100 drones at Israel late Saturday, in an attack that marks the first time that Israel’s most powerful enemy has directed weapons directly toward Israeli territory.

Israelis in the north, the center and south were told to head to bomb shelters, and sirens and explosions were heard in much of the country, including in Jerusalem, as Israel and its allies worked to shoot down the drones. At least one person, a child from a Bedouin Arab town, was seriously injured by falling shrapnel.

The United States and Britain reportedly shot down some of the drones, and Israeli media reported that Jordan , which has heavily criticized Israel’s war in Gaza, had shot down drones over its territory as well.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Israel time on Sunday, Iran said it had concluded its volley. But shortly thereafter Israel’s army spokesman said the army had identified surface-to-surface missiles fired from Iranian territory.

“A short while ago, Iran fired surface-to-surface missiles at Israel,” Israel Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari said. “There are multiple Israeli Air Force planes in the air and ready for every threat. You may hear explosions from interceptions.”

After the drones were launched, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was ready to strike back, portending an escalation in a growing regional conflict surrounding the Israel-Hamas war.

“We are watching the threat. It will take hours to arrive,” Hagari said in a televised announcement of the launch of the drones from Iran and from territories controlled by actors allied with the regime.

Israeli media said the drones could take six to eight hours to arrive. It was not immediately clear what threat the drones posed, but experts speaking on Israeli media said that the drones could overwhelm Israeli air defenses, allowing entry to more lethal missiles timed to enter Israeli airspace at the same time.

In a brief address to the nation, Netanyahu said Israel was ready for the threat and thanked the United States, France and Britain, suggesting that those countries would assist in Israel’s self-defense.

“We appreciate the U.S. standing alongside Israel, as well as the support of Britain, France and many other countries,” he said. “We have determined a clear principle: Whoever harms us, we will harm them. We will defend ourselves against any threat and will do so level-headedly and with determination.”

Israel closed its airspace, keeping scheduled flights from landing or taking off.

Iran was retaliating for an assumed Israeli strike on an Iranian embassy building in Syria last week that killed a number of Iranian officials. “The malicious Zionist regime will be punished,” the Iranian leader, Ali Khamenei, said on X, formerly known as Twitter, after the launch.

Just after 1 a.m., Israel time, Iran’s U.N. mission said the mission was completed, suggesting there would be no further escalation.

“Iran’s military action was in response to the Zionist regime’s aggression against our diplomatic premises in Damascus,” the mission said on X . “The matter can be deemed concluded.”

U.S. and Israeli analysts have said their assessment is that Iran does not want a major regional war but must demonstrate that it will not tolerate attacks like the one in Syria. Still, the launch of the drones could escalate the war that began Oct. 7 when Hamas terrorists massacred hundreds of people in Israel.

The drone attack already seemed to have the unintended consequence of bridging differences between President Joe Biden and Netanyahu over Israel’s conduct in the war, which has cost tens of thousands of Palestinian lives.

Before he left for his home in Delaware on Friday, Biden said he had a one-word warning for Iran: “Don’t.”

“We are devoted to the defense of Israel,” Biden said. “We will support Israel. We will defend — help defend Israel. And Iran will not succeed.”

Biden interrupted his weekend at his home in return to the White House on Saturday to be apprised of the threat by his national security team, the National Security spokeswoman, Adrienne Watson, said in a statement.

“This attack is likely to unfold over a number of hours,” she said.  “President Biden has been clear: our support for Israel’s security is ironclad.  The United States will stand with the people of Israel and support their defense against these threats from Iran.”

Weaponized drones have become more common in warfare, particularly in Russia’s war against Ukraine .

Hagari warned Israelis to heed any alerts to enter their secured rooms and to remain there at least 10 minutes. Israel’s government ordered schools closed for the coming days. On Thursday, the United States barred government personnel and their families in Israel from traveling outside several major urban areas .

“Out of an abundance of caution, U.S. government employees and their family members are restricted from personal travel outside the greater Tel Aviv (including Herzliya, Netanya, and Even Yehuda), Jerusalem, and Be’er Sheva areas until further notice. U.S. government personnel are authorized to transit between these three areas for personal travel,” the alert said.
