Paris Airports: A Comprehensive Guide to CDG, ORY, and BVA

Paris, the City of Light, welcomes millions of visitors each year, and understanding its airports system is crucial for a seamless journey. Whether you’re arriving at Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Orly (ORY), or Beauvais (BVA), this guide unveils everything you need to know about each airport, from destinations served to transportation options.

Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG): A Grand Welcome

Charles de Gaulle Airport, the largest and busiest in Paris, is a gateway to the world. Serving as a major hub for international flights, CDG boasts state-of-the-art facilities. In 2022, 57,461,426 passengers flew in and out of CDG Airport through 34,657 aircrafts. It is the third busiest airport in Europe (9th worldwide). Yes, this is a lot and soon you will be one of them.

CDG Airport is known to be the biggest Airport in town and home to international flights from all continents, Europe and domestic.

Terminals at Charles de Gaulle (CDG) Airport

This airport is built around 3 main terminals:

  • Terminal 1 : The oldest, serve international flights
  • Terminal 2 : The biggest and divided in 7 sub-terminals, serves international, european and domestic flights (Where Air France is mostly located)
  • Terminal 3 : The latest and a little further, that serves charters and low-cost carriers

To help you plan your trip, the official website of the airport helps find which terminal for which airline/destination.

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport Map

Upon arrival, passengers can expect efficient customs and security processes, with an average wait time of 30-45 minutes. Baggage claim is generally swift.

how to get from charles de gaulle to paris

Located 25 kilometers northeast of Paris, CDG airport, offers various transportation options from airport to city center. Whether you prefer public transportation, train (RER) or bus routes, or the comfort of a taxi, Uber or private chauffeur, we’ve got your travel playbook ready. Explore the ins and outs of each mode, ensuring you arrive in the heart of Paris effortlessly.

CDG Airport to Paris by Train

The RER train takes approximately 30 minutes, costing around €11.8, while taxis and airport shuttles are also readily available. Obviously you are thinking about taking the train from CDG Airport to Paris , great idea! After all, it is a very convenient and cost effective way to get into the city. We’ve taken it many times and like it. It is pretty suitable if you’re traveling light and on a budget. The train can be pretty crowded during rush hour, but it is a very convenient way for the transit. If you’re 3 or more, considering the price of the ticket per person, then it can be worth being comfortably seated in taxi or van.

The CDG Airport train station (SNCF) is located within Terminal 2, situated between Terminals 2C, 2D, 2E, and 2F.

It is accessible via the free CDGVAL shuttle (from Terminals 1 and 3), the Paris Aiport N1 bus (stops at Terminals 2A, 2C, 2D, 2E, and 2F), and the Paris Aéroport N2 bus (stops at Terminals 2G and 2F).

A few things to know about the train :

  • Cost: around 11,8€
  • From 5:30am until 00:30am
  • Takes 40 min from the center, rides every 20 min. More during rush hour

CDG Airport to Paris by Taxi/Driver

For a comfortable and straightforward journey, consider the road with a taxi, private driver or even Uber.

Taxis are readily available at designated ranks, offering a door-to-door service. They have a flat-fee from airport transits which makes it easy. They usually take any debit/credit car but will often push towards car.

Paris airport taxi fare to center

Uber provides a convenient app-based option, letting you request a ride with just a few taps. The english capacity of the drivers can really vary and the coordination can be hazardous.

Private chauffeurs offer a touch of luxury with pre-booked, personalized service. Expect trained drivers, with full english capacity. The pros include the ease of direct transport, no need for luggage handling, and the chance to relax. However, it’s essential to be mindful of potential traffic delays, and costs can vary.

WARNING: Paris Airport has seen many FAKE TAXIS approaching travelers at the gates and offering lower prices. YOU SHOULD NOT USE THEM. They’re a not insured and illegal. Be careful !

Efficiency and Convenience

Security, check-in processes, and baggage handling—Paris airports redefine efficiency. Sail through the check-in queues, glide through security checks, and marvel at the streamlined baggage handling. Discover the intricacies that make your journey through Paris airports a breeze.

To prepare your arrival/departure from Paris CDG and you can locate the following services :

  • Health center
  • Luggage storage
  • Lost property
  • Prayer space
  • Currency exchange
  • Smoking areas

Orly Airport (ORY): A Hub of Connectivity

Orly Airport, situated closer to the city, primarily handles domestic and European flights. It offers a seamless travel experience with modern amenities. Security and customs typically take 20-30 minutes, and baggage claim is swift.

Distance to City Center: ORY is just 13 kilometers south of Paris. Travel to the city center takes around 30 minutes by taxi, costing approximately €30. Orlyval light rail and buses provide alternative, affordable options.

Beauvais Airport (BVA): A Budget-Friendly Alternative

Beauvais Airport, popular for budget carriers, serves as an economical entry point. While facilities are simpler, the airport ensures a smooth arrival process. Customs and security checks usually take 20-30 minutes, and baggage claim is efficient.

Distance to City Center: Located 85 kilometers north of Paris, BVA requires a bit more travel time. Buses are the main transport option, taking about 75-90 minutes and costing around €17. Taxis and shared shuttles are also available for around 150-170€.

Airport transfers: How to get there ?

Navigating Paris airports is an integral part of your journey. Whether you land at CDG, ORY, or BVA, understanding what to expect and the available transportation options ensures a stress-free transition from the airport to the enchanting streets of Paris. How to Get to Paris from the Airports

Sean Finelli Last Updated: February 2, 2023

Let’s face it, air travel has its ups and downs. The last thing you need is more stress after a long international flight. In this guide, we’ll walk you through what you need to know to get you from the main airports surrounding Paris into the city.

Pro Tip: Planning what to do on your trip to Paris? Bookmark this post in your browser so you can easily find it when you’re in the city. Check out our guide to Paris for more planning resources, our top Paris tours for a memorable trip, and how to see Paris in a day .

You Guide for Getting to Paris from the Airports

tours france to paris airport

In this article we’ll be covering how to get to Paris from the main airports of France. You’ve probably heard of Charles de Gaulle, but there are two other options as well. There are taxis, trains, and busses you can take. You just have to decide which is the most convenient for you.

  • Charles de Gaulle (CDG)
  • Orly Airport (ORY)
  • Beauvais Airport (BVA)

How to get to Paris from the Airports

Not ready to book a tour? See if Paris tours are worth it .

From Charles de Gaulle

If you’re flying into France, chances are you’ll be landing at the Charles de Gaulle Airport. Located about 35 kilometers (or 22 miles) Northeast of Paris, this airport welcomes nearly 80 million passengers a year. This means it gets super hectic, especially during the high seasons.

The train is our recommendation for getting to the city. It’s the cheapest and fastest option available. Once you’ve picked up your luggage, you’ll want to follow directions for RER B, or Réseau Express Régional.

There are station stops in Terminal 2 and 3 of the airport, and a free shuttle to the station if you land in Terminal 1 .

Your ticket will cost about 10€ and you can buy it in the station. You’ll want to buy from the blue ticket machines labeled billeterie . And if you have any issues with the machines, there’s a ticket counter where you can pick up your ticket.

Trip Time: 50 minutes

Cost: 10.30€

You’ll want to get on an express train, if possible. This will get you to the city much faster, as you won’t be stopping at any of the stations enroute to the city. One last thing: it depends on the day you go, but you may not be able to find a seat. So keep in mind that you may have to stand.

Get off at the Gare du Nord stop and you’ll be in the center of Paris.

There are a few private agencies running busses from the airport to Paris, and usually take about 45 minutes to get to the city center. It’ll run you somewhere between 14 and 18 euro, depending on when you take it.

The public busses work just as well, but they’ll take you about 90 minutes, but they’re a cheaper option: usually around 6 euro cheaper.

Trip Time: 45 minutes (private) 90 minutes (public)

Cost: 14€ – 18€ (private) 6€ (public)

You can also take a taxi from the airport to the city, though I wouldn’t recommend it. It can shave some time off your trip but can cost anywhere from 50-70 euros.

And if there’s traffic going into the city, that price is only going to increase. You might be able to find a better deal on Uber or Lyft, but don’t count on it.

Taking a taxi into the city is by far the most relaxing and direct choice. If you are a group of more than 4 expect to pay additional fees for your fare.

Trip Time: 45 minutes

Cost: 50€ ( right bank ) 55€ (left bank)

From The Orly Airport

The Orly Airport is located about 24 km (or 15 miles) from the city center. Before Charles de Gaulle, this was Paris’ main airport. It remains the busiest for domestic transport, so you’ll want to find your connection to the city as soon as possible.

This is our recommended route. There are four terminals at the Orly Airport. No matter where you land, you’re going to want to look for signs for the Orlyval shuttle.

These run from every terminal in the airport. It will take you to the Antony RER station every five minutes. From there you can purchase a ticket, hop on the train and arrive at the Gare du Nord train station in about 45 minutes.

Trip Time: 45 to 60 minutes

Cost: 12.10€

Public bus 183 connects the Orly airport to the Paris city center. This will take you about an hour to get you to the city, and costs 2 euro. If you’re heading to a major hotel, it’s worth checking out the Benefit line, which serves many of them.

Trip Time: 1 hour

Of course, you can also take a taxi from the airport. Again, we would not recommend it because it can get kind of expensive. But this is your trip, and we totally get it if you’re trying to avoid a crowded train. It shouldn’t take you longer than an hour to get to the city this way, but traffic is always a factor.

Cost: 32€ (left bank) 37€ (right bank)

This 3-hour food tour combines the best of Paris’ culinary heritage and you won’t find a better deal out there!

From Beauvais International Airport (BVA)

Unless you’re flying domestically or from another nearby European country, you’re likely not to pass through the Beauvais International Airport, located about 85 km (or 52 miles) northwest of Paris.

This makes it the farthest airport from Paris, which makes transportation really important.

Especially if you’re traveling light, taking the train from Beauvais to Paris is a good move. Every 1-2 hours you can pick up one of these from the airport, but you’ll need to take a shuttle or a taxi from the airport to the Beauvais station. A taxi should cost about 15€ and the train will cost 17€.

It takes about 15 minutes by taxi from the airport to the train station. Then you can take the TER regional rail to the Gare du Nord station in central Paris.

Trip Time: 1h 15 mins

The shuttle service that runs from the Beauvais airport has no set times. Instead, the shuttles are scheduled in accordance with when the flights land. The ride takes you right into central Paris and is about an hour and fifteen minutes with a single ticket setting you back around 16 euros.

This is the most direct route into Paris, and definitely the one we recommend if you’re not in a hurry. Traffic getting into Paris can get pretty dicey, however, so make sure to look up traffic conditions on Google Maps before you take this option.

Trip Time: 60 – 90 minutes

There’s always the option for taxis, especially if you’re carrying a lot of luggage and don’t want to stand with it one the train.

This option will take you about 60 to 90 minutes to take you into the city center, and is certainly the most direct route to your hotel.

The drawback is, of course, the price, which can range over 170 euros. So we don’t recommend this unless you really need it (and if you don’t mind the price!)

Time: 60 – 90 minutes

Cost: 170€+

So there you have it. With this info, you should be able to make your way easily from the major airports to the city center of Paris. When you get there, there’s tons to see. We definitely recommend our tour of the Louvre or the Eiffel Tower . Have fun in the City of Lights!

What people love about france tours from paris.

It was a really good experience. This is my second trip with Eskapas. The first one was a small group tour fully escorted in Italy and it was wonderful. This trip is independent and you are joining at the meeting point to daily group ours. If you have send of orientation, it may be difficult so I recommend yo to take a taxi to reach out to the meeting points. Usually it costs 15-20Euro. The company upgraded our hotel to New Hotel Le Voltaire 4* ,, located in 11th Arrondissement, close to Bastille. It is a correct one, decent breakfast. Don't miss Cimetiere du Pere-Lachaise which is close proximity.
Wonderful tour. Top notch accommodations; very comfortable tour bus; courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable tour guide and driver. Restaurant selections were fine and we had sufficient time to explore on our own. Highly recommended.
