Is Demi Lovato hanging up those touring shoes? The singer announced Tuesday in a since-deleted social media post that she was sick and that “this next tour” would be her last.

“I’m so f— sick I can’t get out of bed,” the 30-year-old wrote in her Instagram Stories over a series of photos looking out a window. “I can’t do this anymore. This next tour will be my last. I love and thank you guys.”

Lovato continued with follow-up posts asking for fans’ help at the show in Santiago, Chile, on Tuesday night.

“Gonna power thru it for you guys ... I’ll need help singing so sing loud for me bb’s!!” wrote the singer, who uses she/her and they/them pronouns. “I barely have a voice. I’m gonna be pointing the mic to the audience a lot tonight. Please sing for me.”

Lovato’s snarling new album reveals a star in recovery — not just from drugs and alcohol but from sexual repression, the church and toxic relationships

Aug. 18, 2022

Representatives for the singer didn’t immediately respond Wednesday morning to a request for comment or clarification on the deleted posts.

After the show, Lovato posted thanks to the fans in the audience, saying, “You guys reeeeally pulled thru tonight .. thank you sooo f— much — I love you more than you know.”

In her note about ending the on-the-road part of her career, Lovato — who just wrapped the seven-date, four-country South American leg of her Holy Fvck Tour — appeared to be referring to the upcoming North American leg of the tour, which kicks off Sept. 22 near Sacramento. Lovato will play two dozen U.S. and Canadian cities, including a stop at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood on Sept. 28.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times , Lovato revealed a recent bout with COVID-19, which left her “slightly fatigued” at the time.

‘Feeling more feminine,’ Demi Lovato adds she/her back into pronoun options

Demi Lovato adopted another set of pronouns to better suit their gender fluidity. The singer says she/her are back in the rotation with they/them.

In that article, Times reporter Suzy Exposito described Lovato’s most recent album as “a thundering, hard-rock horror maze through Lovato’s psyche as a superstar in recovery — not just from drugs and alcohol but also from the sexual and spiritual repression that had long eaten away at her sense of self.”

South America hasn’t been Lovato’s happy place in the past either. More than a decade ago, in late 2010, the former “Sonny With a Chance” star suddenly quit the Jonas Bros.’ Live in Concert tour right before it hit Ecuador, Chile and Brazil. She left to seek treatment for what her rep at the time said were “emotional and physical issues she has dealt with for some time.”

Months later, Lovato quit the Disney Channel’s “Sonny” — which had been reworked to accommodate her absence during rehab — to focus on her music and her health.

In the years since, Lovato has survived a near-fatal 2018 drug overdose , explored her gender fluidity and pansexuality, publicly feuded with a beloved L.A. frozen-yogurt shop and stopped being “California sober.”

“I’ve reached a point where I’m tired of spoon-feeding myself to the media about my journey with sobriety,” Lovato told The Times in August. “‘This is where I’m at.’ ‘This is where I went for a month.’ ‘These are my pronouns and this is who I am.’ F— it. I’m putting myself out there and that’s what people should appreciate. And the ones that don’t can f— off. I’m tired of explaining myself.”

Demi Lovato Announces Current Tour Is Their Last

will demi lovato ever tour again

Say it ain’t so! Demi Lovato is calling it quits on the road. Today (Sep. 13), the Grammy-nominated artist shared on her Instagram Stories that her “Holy Fvck” Tour will be the last.

Demi Lovato says the #HOLYFVCK tour will be her final tour after revealing that she has become ill: “I can’t do this anymore” pic.twitter.com/9NrJ2gYSu3 — Pop Crave (@PopCrave) September 13, 2022

“I’m so f**king sick. I can’t get out of bed,” she wrote in a caption. “I can’t do this anymore. This next tour will be my last. I love and thank you guys.” The stories were deleted shortly after.

The “Holy Fvck” Tour, Demi’s first tour in four years, officially kicked off on Aug. 30 in São Paulo, Brazil. The final show of the South American leg is intended to take place tonight in Santiago, Chile, at the Movistar Arena. At the time of publication Lovato, Movistar Arena, nor Live Nation have made any statements through their social media accounts about whether the show would proceed as scheduled.

Naturally, Lovato’s fans are taking to social media to show support and concern. “If the show goes on tonight: Chile fans, please make sure you show Demi more love than any other fans could,” pleaded a fan on Twitter. “If it doesn’t go on, [Demi] please just go home to your fam and doggos and take a breather.”

“If the tour has to end then it’s heartbreaking, but we don’t ever want a repeat situation of 2018,” wrote another fan referencing the singer’s near-fatal overdose . “Demi’s happiness and health is the most important thing to us. The music is everything but them as a happy functioning healthy human living being means more. Demi Lovato, we love you.”

we probably will never know what's causing this or what exactly is happening but i just hope that everything is okay, that they are okay, and if canceling the tour would be the best for them physically & mentally, we should just support them all the way. all love 4 u @ddlovato ❣️ — BLUE 🩸 (@lovatoblue_) September 13, 2022

The tour is in support of Lovato’s new album of the same name. A new song, “29,” recently made headlines for allegedly referencing her relationship with ex-Wilmer Valderrama . The U.S. leg of the tour is currently scheduled to begin on Sep. 22 in Sacramento, CA, and play major cities through Nov. Regardless of the status of the tour, we hope Demi remains safe and in good health.

Demi Lovato announced today that her current tour in support of her eighth studio album will be her last.

In several since-deleted Instagram Stories the singer posted photos looking out a hotel room window with the words, “I’m so f***ing sick I can’t get out of bed. I can’t do this anymore. This next tour will be my last. I love and thank you guys.”

While Lovato indicated in her posts that it would be “this next tour” that would be her last, music outlets like Billboard are taking it to mean her current “Holy Fvck” campaign will be her last.

The singer then posted another set of Stories that reads: “Gonna power thru it for you guys [sick emoji] [black heart emoji] I’ll need help singing so sing loud for me bb’s!!”

Along with a backstage selfie Lovato wrote, “I barely have a voice, I’m gonna be pointing the mic to the audience a lot tonight.”

The tour began exactly a month ago in Des Moines before segueing to a series of South American dates, the most recent of which was scheduled tonight in Santiago, Chile. Videos and images posted online seem to indicate she did, indeed, perform this evening.

What her statement means for the remainder of the two dozen-plus dates , all of which are in the U.S., is unclear.

Lovato is, of course, a multi-hyphenate who began her career on Barney & Friends , fronted her own sitcom — Disney’s Sonny with a Chance — in her teens and was a judge on The X Factor USA for two seasons.

She has been open in the media and in her music about struggles with an eating disorder and substance abuse. She published a memoir Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year in 2013. In the documentary Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated she detailed her bipolar disorder. The 2021 doc series Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil detailed her 2018 overdose and the events that led up to it.

Demi Lovato has announced she doesn't plan on touring again, telling her fans on Instagram : "I can't do this anymore."

The singer, 30, is currently on tour after releasing her eighth studio album, Holy Fvck, and in a series of now deleted posts said "this next tour will be my last."

On her InstaStory, the former Disney star shared photos of her looking out of a hotel window, with the words: “I’m so f***ing sick I can’t get out of bed. I can’t do this anymore. This next tour will be my last. I love and thank you guys.”

Later on, the chart topper wrote on her InstaStory: "Gonna power thru it for you guys", with a sick face emoji and black heart emoji, continuing: "I'll need help singing so sing loud for me bb's!!"

She also shared a mirror selfie in which she wore a green and black chequered jacket and black trousers with a silver chain and crosses, writing: "I barely have a voice, I’m gonna be pointing the mic to the audience a lot tonight please sing for me.”

Following the concert, Demi wrote: "You guys reeeally pulled thru tonight.. thank you soo f**king much- I love you more than you know." She finished the post with two teary eyed emojis.

The Camp Rock star's tour began a month ago in Des Moines before heading to South America, and she still has a number of gigs in the US to come.

Demi, who has been in the limelight for around 20 years, having starred in Barney & Friends as a child, has been open about her struggles with an eating disorder and substance abuse.

She has published a memoir and released two documentaries, most recently the 2021 programme, Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, which detailed her 2018 accidental heroin overdose, which reportedly left her "five minutes from death".

However last month Demi revealed her regrets over the documentaries.

"Honestly, I'm really sick of watching myself, and I think other people probably are too.

"And if they aren't, then they can watch my music videos, the star told Alternative Press .

She continued: "I wish I would have waited until I had my s**t figured out more because now it’s cemented. Sobriety is what works for me and nothing else."

Demi, who claims she gave up substances altogether in 2019 before undergoing treatment for addiction, says she will continue to share her story with her fans by alternative means.

"My story's not done, so I want to be able to say by the time I've written a book, 'OK, this is me grown up,'" she added.

The former X Factor US judge released Holy Fvck earlier this month, which she describes a a return to her 'rock 'n' roll roots'.

One of it's track, '29', discusses her relationship at age 17 with 29-year old Wilmer Valderrama.

Demi Lovato declares 'this next tour' will be the last: 'I can't do this anymore'

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Is Demi Lovato hanging up those touring shoes? The singer announced Tuesday in a since-deleted social media post that she was sick and that "this next tour" would be her last.

“I’m so f— sick I can’t get out of bed," the 30-year-old wrote in her Instagram Stories over a series of photos looking out a window. "I can’t do this anymore. This next tour will be my last. I love and thank you guys."

Lovato continued with follow-up posts asking for fans' help at the show in Santiago, Chile, on Tuesday night.

"Gonna power thru it for you guys ... I'll need help singing so sing loud for me bb's!!" wrote the singer, who uses she/her and they/them pronouns. "I barely have a voice. I'm gonna be pointing the mic to the audience a lot tonight. Please sing for me."

Representatives for the singer didn't immediately respond Wednesday morning to a request for comment or clarification on the deleted posts.

After the show, Lovato posted thanks to the fans in the audience, saying, "You guys reeeeally pulled thru tonight .. thank you sooo f— much — I love you more than you know."

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times , Lovato revealed a recent bout with COVID-19, which left her "slightly fatigued" at the time.

In that article, Times reporter Suzy Exposito described Lovato's most recent album as "a thundering, hard-rock horror maze through Lovato’s psyche as a superstar in recovery — not just from drugs and alcohol but also from the sexual and spiritual repression that had long eaten away at her sense of self."

South America hasn't been Lovato's happy place in the past either. More than a decade ago, in late 2010, the former "Sonny With a Chance" star suddenly quit the Jonas Bros.' Live in Concert tour right before it hit Ecuador, Chile and Brazil. She left to seek treatment for what her rep at the time said were "emotional and physical issues she has dealt with for some time."

Months later, Lovato quit the Disney Channel's "Sonny" — which had been reworked to accommodate her absence during rehab — to focus on her music and her health.

In the years since, Lovato has survived a near-fatal 2018 drug overdose , explored her gender fluidity and pansexuality, publicly feuded with a beloved L.A. frozen-yogurt shop and stopped being "California sober."

I’m tired of explaining myself."

Demi Lovato on her "Holy Fvck" tour

Demi Lovato is over tour life.

The singer announced in a series of since-deleted Instagram Story posts on Tuesday that the “Holy Fvck” tour will be her last.

“I’m so f—king sick I can’t get out of bed,” Lovato, 30, wrote atop photos that seem to be taken from a hotel room.

“I can’t do this anymore. This next tour will be my last. I love and thank you guys.”

The “Sorry Not Sorry” singer, who uses “she/her” and “they/them” pronouns , did not share further details regarding the health issues she’s currently facing.

A rep for Lovato did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Lovato is currently scheduled to be on the road until Nov. 6 when the tour wraps at the Toyota Music Factory in Irving, TX. The former Disney star has yet to announce whether they’ll still be playing their show at the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile, Tuesday night.

Naturally, Lovato’s latest IG Story posts sent “Lovatics” abuzz on social media.

“Demi lovato means the whole world to me.. but I’ve always had this awful feeling everytime they go on tour it’s not good for them mentally or physically,” one fan tweeted , adding that they just want the singer to be “happy and healthy.”

“We love you demi, you’re not alone. remember that you and your health is above everything,” a second fan chimed in, using the hashtag, “#WeLoveYouDemi.”

“I think we forget how much trauma demi lovato has been through.. we forget how heavy day to day life is for them.. i was shocked when they announced a tour at all.. all i could ever want is for demi to be happy, hard to read but it keeps demi healthy that’s what matters,” another user wrote after hearing the news.

Lovato has had a tumultuous last few years leading up to the release of her eighth studio album and world tour of the same name.

Following a near-fatal overdose  in 2018, which caused the singer to suffer  three strokes and a heart attack , Lovato maintained a  “California sober” lifestyle  for the years following, meaning she still drank alcohol and smoked weed in moderation.

However, in December 2021, Lovato announced that being completely sober was “the only way” for her to live a healthy lifestyle while she quietly completed another stint in rehab.

To celebrate the fresh start, the singer told fans that she created her most recent album completely sober.

And it sounds like touring isn’t the only thing Lovato plans to leave behind in this next chapter of life.

Last month, the songstress revealed in an interview with  Alternative Press  that she doesn’t plan on making any more documentaries about her life.

“Honestly, I’m really sick of watching myself, and I think other people probably are too,” Lovato said. “And if they aren’t, then they can watch my music videos.”

“I Wanted To Take My Power Back”: Demi Lovato Is Ready To Rock Again

By Christian Allaire

“I Wanted To Take My Power Back” Demi Lovato Talks To Vogue About Her New Album ‘HOLY FVCK

On “Eat Me” – one of the early tracks on Demi Lovato ’s eighth studio album, HOLY FVCK, out now – the singer follows up her punchy guitar riffs with two rhetorical questions. “Is this what you’d all prefer?” Lovato sings with grit. “Would you like me better if I was still her?”

Paired with her new musical sound, a fusion of rock and metal, it’s a clear message: Lovato is done being your bubblegum pop star. “I was referring to the hyper-feminine pop star that I used to be,” Lovato tells Vogue of the song. “Wearing the leotards on stage, and trying to fit the mould of what other people wanted from me.” Having previously dominated charts with songs like “Cool For The Summer” and “Confident,” the singer is clearly ready for her next chapter. And it’s one that’s much rawer – and more real.

The rock sound on Lovato’s HOLY FVCK may be a dramatic switch-up compared to her recent dance-pop albums, but it’s not exactly new territory for the singer. It marks a return to Lovato’s earlier work, when she burst onto the scene in 2008 with her rock-pop album, Don’t Forget, and starred in the tween film Camp Rock with the Jonas Brothers. “I wanted to go back to my roots,” says Lovato of the new sound. On the album, Lovato aims to free herself of both the musical and aesthetic expectations that have been placed on her – and for once, chooses to be unapologetic about doing so. The angsty tracks navigate themes of relationships, religion and sex with a newfound candour for Lovato. (On “Heaven,” for one, she sings, “If pleasure is wrong, cast me out like a sinner, I found myself with my two little fingers.”)

The 10 Key Spring/Summer 2024 Trends To Know Now

Of course, Lovato’s quest for authenticity is not just specific to this record release. Recently, Lovato has spoken candidly about her struggles with mental health and overcoming addiction, while last year, Lovato also shared she is non-binary, and now uses she/they pronouns. HOLY FVCK , then, felt like a continuation of her new mission to live life truthfully. “What I learned about myself making this record is that it’s okay to own your truth,” Lovato says. “I wanted to take my power back.” In the process, she’s produced a fiery album filled with passion, thoughtful reflection and a dash of good ol’ fashioned rage.

Below, Lovato talks with Vogue exclusively about the process of writing the new album, feeling like herself more than ever – and, of course, what she’ll be wearing on her upcoming tour.

I want to start out by saying I listened to the album this morning, and it totally hyped me up on my commute to work.

Thank you so much! That’s the goal.

Tell me about when you started thinking about making this album, and how it evolved to be what it is now.

I have some friends in the band called Dead Sara . They released an album last year, and it reignited this flame inside of me. I was like, “I want to do rock music.” I saw them on tour and was super stoked about their music and was just like, “That’s what I want to go back to.” It felt right to me because I hadn’t done it in a while. I wanted to return to my roots.

What was the first track you started with?

I have a song called “Dead Friends,” and that was the first song I wrote and recorded for the album. It was a slower song, but I ended up turning it into a faster one. I wanted to pay homage to the friends that I missed, while keeping it upbeat and a feel-good homage to them.

Image may contain Cross Symbol Human and Person

Were you a big rock aficionado growing up?

I started getting into rock music when I was about 12. What transitioned me into that was the emo and scene days. I was raised in Texas, so I was around a lot of [country music]. My mum listened to R&B, Motown and pop, so I listened to that growing up too. But whenever I was able to choose my own music, I started listening to emo scene bands, and then I got into hardcore music and some metal. That’s when I ended up making my first album, when I was 15.

When you were in the studio, what new sounds did you want to bring to it? Because rock music can go in so many directions.

There wasn’t an intentional sound that I had – I just know that I wanted it to be harder. I wanted it to go harder than my first and second album. But I left it up to the creative process of what came out while I was making the album.

As evidenced by the title, HOLY FVCK , there are a lot of nods to religion on this album. Where did that come from?

There wasn’t a specific approach that I had in mind when it came to the album, where I was like, “Oh, I want this to have religious undertones.” It just came out in the writing process. I wanted to take my power back. I grew up in the church as a Christian, and I had some anger towards it. Being queer, I definitely felt like I was misunderstood. There was also a kind of sexual oppression that I felt came from the church. There’s a song called “Heaven” that I wrote, and it’s actually based on a Bible verse about masturbation. It’s Matthew 5:30: “If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off – it’s better to lose one part of your body than your entire body to hell.” I have my own sex toy, so it’s no secret that I am very sexually empowered. I also write, “I met God just for a minute, sat in his house, took a look around and saw I didn’t fit in.” That song kicked off the album, and from there I ended up writing “Holy Fvck.”

Let’s go through a few more tracks. In “Eat Me,” you sing, “Would you like me better if I was her?” Who were you thinking about here?

I was referring to the hyper-feminine pop star that I used to be – wearing the leotards on stage, and trying to fit the mould of what other people wanted from me.

When you look back on that more pop-focused era, do you see it as a time when you were not being authentically yourself? Are you still proud of that work?

I’m proud of that work, but it didn’t make me happy. There was always this kind of emptiness that I felt, because I was trying to be someone that I wasn’t. Now, I identify as non-binary, so when I say, “Would you like me better if I was still her,” it’s also a reference to people wanting me to stay who they wanted me to be in their eyes.

Would you say this album is your most authentic to date, then?

Definitely.

With rock music, I feel like a sense of angst is always present. I wonder if, and how, you think angst is different as an adult versus as a teenager.

When you get older, you start to realise where your trauma comes from. There’s a healthy amount of angst when it comes to understanding your trauma and honouring it – honouring your anger. In order to be spiritually balanced, you can’t ignore the negative feelings that you have, because then you’re just pretending and living with this facade that everything’s okay all the time. I think that I have a healthy relationship with anger, because I’m able to honour it without letting it control me or send me into a rage like I did when I was younger. You have a better understanding of yourself. I’ve learned that over the past year, and from just getting older and going into my thirties.

Let’s talk about the song “Wasted.” You sing about “getting wasted on you.” What’s the story behind the lyrics?

There’s an arc to this album. The beginning of the album is honouring my anger, then it goes into being sexually empowered – songs like “City of Angels” and “Bones” – and then it goes into love songs, like “Wasted”. I wanted to make a song where you hear the title, and you think it’s going to be about something else. With “Wasted”, I wanted to write a song about being wasted off of love. You might think it’s about getting high, but it’s about finding a high that’s better than any other high I’ve ever felt.

Where does the song “29,” which touches on an age gap in a previous relationship, fit into the album arc?

I would say it’s about reclaiming my power. I turned 29 this last year, and I had a lot of realisations about that. It’s about owning my power, taking it back, and reclaiming some of that anger as well.

A new album and era often comes with a new fashion look, too. How would you describe your style vibe for this record, and for the upcoming tour?

I’ve been wearing clothes that are a lot edgier. There’s some masculinity and some femininity – it’s a nice balance between the two. [For the tour,] there’s this dressy pantsuit that I wear, and I have dress shirts that I wear with plaid skirts. Boots, loafers, Converse – those types of shoes.

What outfit do you feel most authentically yourself in these days?

A skirt, and maybe a dress shirt or a blazer. With some boots or heels. But it changes! I’m a pretty fluid person, and I’m pretty fluid in my fashion as well.

Image may contain Costume Clothing Apparel Human Person Demi Lovato Spandex and Latex Clothing

Are you a collector of anything fashion-wise in particular?

If you looked at my closet, you would think it was shoes! But it’s not: It’s less me collecting shoes, and more me just needing to clean them out of my closet. I just collect a bunch of clothes. I get sick of stuff really fast, so I’m always like, “I need new jeans.”

How has it felt playing live for fans again during the tour?

I played yesterday and the day before yesterday. It’s been really fun getting back on stage and singing in front of a live audience. It’s always a totally different energy than just being in the studio and creating; it’s been really nice to see my fans’ faces.

Do you do anything specific to prep for a tour?

I don’t. [ Laughs. ] But I have people visit, which is really grounding for me. And I bring my trainer on the road. We work out and that centres me mentally and physically. That helps a lot.

I feel like making an album is also a grounding – maybe even spiritual – experience. Did you learn anything about yourself during this latest process?

What I learned about myself making this record is that it’s okay to own your truth. The last album that I made, I’m proud of it, but I don’t feel like there was a lot of myself in it. There was a lot of authenticity in the lyrics, but sonically, let’s just say I don’t go back and listen to that music today. This album, I’m excited to perform it and listen back to it. I haven’t gotten tired of it.

Boldness is very much the brand in Demi Lovato ‘s new album, “Dancing With the Devil… The Art of Starting Over,” an assertion that will strike no one as surprising after the pop star’s media blitzkrieg of the last few weeks. The fact that it isn’t a surprise is either an advantage or a problem, depending on your vantage point.

Is the album release the culmination of a cycle in which she’s told her unnerving story in a docuseries and attendant interviews for it, or does it risk coming off as an afterthought in that campaign? She’s been so dominant a pop news figure that it’s hard to believe only two and a half weeks have transpired since the serialized YouTube film “Dancing With the Devil” premiered at South By Southwest. Hearing those same harrowing, now-legendary events of her addiction and recovery play out in song feels a little bit like: You’ve seen the hit movie; now here’s the Broadway musical adaptation.

“The Art of Starting Over” (let’s henceforth refer to the album by the second half of its bifurcated title, to avoid confusion with the film) fits squarely into a tradition of confessional pop that stretches at least from John Lennon’s about-to-be-reissued “Plastic Ono Band” to most of the Taylor Swift oeuvre. Probably any other record in that storied tradition delivered its candor and shocks right on release day, though, not following a feature-film-length teaser, which makes this sprawling 18-song collection (22 in the bonus-augmented digital edition!) tougher to evaluate on its own. And it’s not just the documentary: Judgment may be further clouded by Thursday night’s release of a music video for the half-title-song, “Dancing With the Devil,” which is bound to elicit strong pro-and-con opinions by putting Lovato in near-death makeup, recreating the worst moments of her life in song as she sings from a hospital gurney, tubes up her nose in place of an earpiece.

Popular on Variety

If “Starting Over” did come to us in isolation, with no attendant projects or hype to manipulate expectations, here, to the best of our ability to theorize that situation, is what we’d probably end up saying about it: It is, in fact, bold and brazen, and sometimes harrowing (to use all the adjectives already applied to the movie), and Lovato has chutzpah from Malibu to the Atlantic and back for laying herself out in terms this raw. It’s almost landmark-worthy, really, in that confessional pop-rock lineage we were just discussing, for how few filters she cares to put on a private life made public. And… we wish the songs were a little better.

We should probably add that assessments are complicated by “The Art of Starting Over” not knowing exactly what kind of album it wants to be. It’s a diary opened up and turned into sheet music with blood all over the pages, yes… except for the moments when it just wants to turn into a pop album. That hedging of bets is basically a good thing: You don’t want an album of 22 songs just focused on one person’s suffering. But it is a little hard to follow where “Starting Over” is going when, just three tracks in, a Lovato spoken-word interlude comes in and literally says that the album is starting over, and there are several more big gear-shifts to come (although none of them announce themselves quite that grandly).

It seems as if Lovato conceived of those first three pre-interlude tracks as their own EP-within-an-LP… the bracing soundtrack to the hyper-reality of “Dancing With the Devil,” the documentary, getting the shock-and-awe out of the way right upfront before thereafter giving the listener and herself a license to relax a little. Of these three, and really of the whole album, the opening “Anyone” is the best track. Presented exactly as she belted it on the Grammys in January 2020, accompanied only by a piano, it feels underwritten, but underwritten in the best, rawest way, laying personal desolation on the line with a rawness even Lennon might be proud of… though her version of primal scream therapy vocalizing is always going to lean toward Broadway with an edgy rasp in its throat. “I feel stupid when I sing” is still one of the most bracing things a performer has ever sung, at least this popular a performer, in front of that many millions of people, at that booming a natural decibel level.

That’s a high enough high — or high enough low, if you will — that it’s not a terrible thing to say the rest of the album can never top that. But it takes a dip pretty quickly with “Dancing With the Devil,” although this recounting of a relapse starts off with a hell of a promising first verse: “It’s just a little red wine, I’ll be fine / Not like I wanna do this every night / I’ve been good, don’t I deserve it? / I think I earned it…” That addicts’ justification gives way to the cliched hell imagery and blandly dramatic production, as an unmemorable pro forma chorus leaves the tune’s potential to turn into something really riveting purgatory-bound. That’s followed by another solo-piano ballad, “ICU (Madison’s Lullabye),” this one a sweet counterpoint to “Anyone,” with Lovato sharing her sorrow about letting her little sister down by ending up in the, yes, ICU — something that should probably never be turned into an “I see you” pun, even with the noblest of intentions.

After that awkward now-the-album-is-really-starting interlude, it will come as a relief that Lovato gets a light-R&B groove going for the first time with the other title song, “The Art of Starting Over,” though its pleasant insubstantiality is a bit of a jolt after the Götterdämmerung of those first three tracks. “Lonely People” has a nearly chanted chorus over a rhythm guitar riff helping make the track feel like a decent enough Avril Lavigne/Selena Gomez hybrid. One of the album’s standouts, the acoustic “The Way You Don’t Look at Me” — one of the few times you’ll heard steel guitar on a Demi Lovato track — does a trenchant job of telling how a lover’s quiet apathy can be worst than going to “hell and back”; not for the last time on the album, Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter make a good writing team for her when it comes to taking on “issues.”

“Melon Cake” tries to split the difference between the two sides of the album: It’s in that super-confessional mode, like those early tracks — Lovato has talked about how, in part of her enforced diets as a child star, her handlers put candles in watermelons in place of real birthday cakes — but with a frothy pop feel in place of the musical melodrama. A promising song in theory, but hearing Lovato sing “No more melon cake” over and over again belies the album’s willingness to settle too often for elementary, sing-songy chorus lines.

Her collaboration with Ariana Grande , “Met Him Last Night,” isn’t the battle of the divas you’d hope for; it’s one “devil” song too many on an album that doesn’t lack for brimstone imagery, and there’s a reason the Grande-cowritten track didn’t make any of her own recent albums — it’s bonus-track-level at best. That’s one of the handful of tracks Lovato didn’t have a hand in writing; another, and a far superior one, is “Carefully.” Sans the autobiographical details the singer is trying to build into every other nook and cranny of the collection, “Carefully” stands out, in being more impersonal… but it’s also such a beautifully melodic, well-crafted piece of work it makes you wish she’d get right back in the studio for a non-concept album’s worth of outside contributions this good.

“The Kind of Lover I Am” hits another one of Lovato’s current talking points — the pansexual one. It feels like the one truly provocative couplet, “I don’t care if you’ve got a dick / I don’t care if you’ve got a WAP,” was shoehorned into an existing song. But producer Oak knows exactly how to sell the easy, breezy hook that is the album’s best, with soft, layered background vocals and live-sounding band that lift the album out of all that hellfire and set it down somewhere on a sexed-up tropical island.

“Easy,” a duet with Noah Cyrus , breaks that sunny mood with a return to melodrama — laden with unnecessary strings that sound straight outta ProTools, even though the credits say they’re real. Bummer mode continues but at least picks up the pace with “15 Minutes,” a kiss-off to a lover who supposedly latched onto her for the fleeting Warholesque fame. Aside from the opening number, the album might lyrically peak when Lovato, not one for immense measures of personal modesty, declares: “I’m not innocent  / I’m know I’m a headache but I’m working on it  / It should be an honor / I even had the time to bother.”  The honor of beholding that kind of lyrical audacity is all ours.

Biggest letdown honors go to the Saweetie collaboration “My Girlfriends Are My Boyfriend,” if only because one of the album’s better lyrical concepts, and even a pretty good line-by-line execution, are wasted on the set’s most aggressively annoying track. Whatever the title might seem to promise, it’s not another nod to pansexuality — it’s a friendship-over- romance anthem, or, as Saweetie inevitably puts it, “chicks over dicks,” but the sharp lines in the verses are undercut by a nursery-rhyme chorus even a toddler might tire of, let alone the grown women needing a fresh girls-night-out anthem.

“California Sober” lends the album a nice, Cali-folky-pop Santa Ana wind of a musical interlude… only alluding and making no literal lyrical reference to the weed and alcohol that fit Lovato’s controversial definition of hard-stuff-avoidant “sobriety.” (Elton John will not be including this song in his personal playlist, anyway.) “Mad World,” her version of the oft-covered Tears for Fears tune, clearly belongs on the album because… they’d set a 21-track goal for the album and got stuck at 20? It’s not bad, but it’s a mystery. The non-deluxe portion of the album ends in a satisfying spot with “Good Place,” a reasonably-happy-ever-after wrap-up that again proves Tranter and Michaels are good partners. Put the alluring feel and sophisticated, acoustically rendered melody on replay, and you might even convince yourself the album isn’t as scattershot as it is.

“Good Place” actually does a great job of showcasing Lovato’s superior voice in non-belter mode, making it a fine bookend to the balls-out opening that was “Anyone,” just over an hour prior. What comes before “Good Place” all too often feels all-over-the-place — a planned tour de force that probably should have settled in on whether it really wanted to be a soundtrack to the “Devil’s” work or just revert completely to Fun Demi as a tonic for all the trauma on display in the documentary. Amid the overtly autobiographical numbers, there are pretty good and not-so-hot numbers; the same unevenness goes of the more escapist turns the album makes. This might not be such a problem if “Art of Starting Over” had one undeniable smash on it to help steamroll over the unevenness. But there’s no doubt that she’s alive, well, singing more than just well, and stepping around smallish problems like how to make an album that feels coherent instead of dancing with Mr. D.

Demi Lovato Reveals She Is Never Going On Tour Again! Says 'I Can’t Do This Anymore'

By Favour Adegoke on September 14, 2022 at 10:00 PM EDT

Singer and former child star Demi Lovato recently revealed that her current music tour would be her last. Lovato posted several now-deleted photos on her Instagram story and admitted that she’s too sick and “can’t do this anymore,” so this “next tour will be my last.”

Lovato’s tour is just a month old, and it’s unclear what effect her statements will have on the remaining dates scheduled in the U.S. The singer was one of many celebrities who supported musician Shawn Mendes when he postponed his tour to focus on his mental health and family.

Lovato has been very open about her eating disorders and substance abuse problems with her fans. She has also released a memoir detailing her experiences, and there are several documentaries on them too. Lovato even recently shared her first experience with drugs during a podcast episode.

Lovato recently posted on her Instagram stories, including photos of her gazing out the window. The posts, which she has since deleted, read (per Deadline ), “I’m so f--king sick I can’t get out of bed. I can’t do this anymore. This next tour will be my last. I love and thank you, guys.”

However, the “Heart Attack” singer didn’t clarify whether she meant that this would be her last tour for the “Holy Fvck” campaign or if it would be the last tour for her music career as a whole.

Lovato later posted several posts on her Stories, hinting that her health has now affected her voice. One read, “Gonna power thru it for you guys [sick emoji] [black heart emoji] I’ll need help singing so sing loud for me bb’s!!”

Another post included a backstage selfie of Lovato on tour. In this post, the “Cool for the Summer” actress wrote, “I barely have a voice, I’m gonna be pointing the mic to the audience a lot tonight.”

Demi Lovato's Tour Is A Month Old

Demi Lovato

With Lovato’s announcement, it’s unclear if she will even complete the over twenty dates left, most of which are scheduled in the U.S. The tour also includes performances from some artists Lovato featured, like Dead Sara and YUNGBLUD.

She Supported Shawn Mendes’ Tour Postponement

Lovato was one of several celebrities who supported singer Shawn Mendez when he announced that he would take a break from his Wonder world tour to focus on his mental health and familial relationships.

62nd Annual Grammy Awards - Arrivals

Lovato spoke on Mendez’s decision during an appearance on the " Karson & Kennedy Show ." The “Substance” singer said, “I know what it’s like to get out on the road and not be ready for it. I know what it’s like to feel overworked or burnt out.”

She continued, “That’s never a fun feeling, and when it’s dealing with mental health, it’s like, ‘gosh.’ My heart just goes out to him. It is something that I thought about. It’s been four years since I’ve toured and I’m at a different age, I’m at a different place in my life...”

Demi Lovato Is Open About Her Health Struggles

Lovato has been very open about her health struggles and drug abuse problems. In 2013, she published a memoir titled “Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year” and has three documentaries detailing her bipolar disorder experiences and her famous 2018 drug overdose.

During a recent episode of the “ Call Her Daddy ” podcast, Lovato shared her experience of trying drugs for the first time with host Alexandra Cooper. She said, “I started experimenting for the first time when I was 12, or 13. I got into a car accident and they prescribed me opiates.”

The “Sonny with a Chance” star continued, “My mom didn’t think she would have to lock up the opiates from her 13-year-old daughter but I was already drinking at that point. I had been bullied and was looking for an escape.”

Demi Lovato Claims She'll Never Perform Again After 2022 Tour

Demi Lovato seems to have no future plans to tour again, telling fans she just can't do it anymore.

Demi Lovato's change of style surprised everyone recently, and while some people were unsure at first, it was an amazing surprise. The singer, who became a star as part of the Camp Rock cast, has been killing it with rock music , selling out stadiums all over the world.

That's why, after such staggering success, the announcement that they would stop touring felt completely out of the blue. There are good reasons for this, of course. Here's everything we know.

Demi Lovato's Health Struggles Have Been Front And Center

Ever since their overdose in 2018, Demi Lovato has been especially open about her health struggles. Lots of them had to do with mental health issues that she has been dealing with since childhood.

Growing up with a mentally ill, abusive father, they had to learn about the hard truths of life from a very early age, and since she started her acting career very young, most of that process happened while she was in the public eye.

They're still dealing with the aftermath of their overdose , which caused both physical and psychological issues that she's bravely overcoming day after day.

"I had three strokes. I had a heart attack. My doctors said that I had five to 10 more minutes," Demi explained.

"I was left with brain damage, and I still deal with the effects of that today. I don't drive a car because there are blind spots in my vision. I also for a long time had a really hard time reading."

Even so, she's choosing an optimistic approach to these difficulties and takes them as a reminder of the dark days she never wants to repeat.

"I feel like they kind of are still there to remind me of what could happen if I ever get into a dark place again."

Despite their determination and relentless effort to get through it, the life of a touring musician is not an easy one, so it's no wonder they want to take a break.

She Had To Cancel A Show From The 2022 Tour

It was just a few hours before Demi Lovato was set to perform that the singer had to make the difficult decision of canceling the show.

They were very upset, but it was ultimately the right choice. If she wanted her fans to have a good experience, so she decided to postpone the show until she felt better.

" Rosemont, today I woke up and had absolutely no voice ," Demi said in a statement on Instagram, read.

"I’m so sorry, but it breaks my heart to tell you I have to reschedule the show. Tickets will be honored for a new date as soon as it’s announced. This is the absolute last thing I want to do, I’m having so much fun with you all, and I can’t wait to see you again. Again, I’m so sorry, and I appreciate your understanding. I love you all."

In the caption, she added "If you have tickets, hang on to them - they will be honored for the new date as soon as it is announced. Hope to see you all soon."

Demi Felt More Comfortable On This Tour Than They'd Ever Felt Before

One of the reasons why the news that Demi would not be touring anymore was because she had been so happy in this new stage of her musical career.

"It feels so good to just be completely authentic in what makes me happy, to perform and sing, and I'm just really, really excited about it," they said not so long ago.

"I’m back to my roots, and I’m no longer performing in little leotards and in stilettos, you know, trying to be someone I thought people wanted from me," she continued.

"Now I just get to be myself -- my genuine, authentic self -- and perform the songs that I want to perform."

Well, if it is to be Demi Lovato's last tour, at least fans are comforted by the fact that they had the best time.

Demi Can't Handle Being On The Road Anymore

The shocking news came in the form of Instagram stories, and despite the fact that they no longer exist, fans will remember them forever.

Demi took to her Instagram to announce that she would not be touring again after her Holy Fvck tour is over. "I can't do this anymore," she stated, which understandably scared fans.

" This next tour will be my last ," they continued. "I’m so f***ing sick I can’t get out of bed. I can’t do this anymore. This next tour will be my last. I love and thank you, guys."

Still, she kept going. "Gonna power thru it for you guys", they said, referring to the rest of the 2022 tour. "I'll need help singing so sing loud for me bb's!!"

The music world will definitely feel the loss of Demi Lovato's amazing concerts, but that doesn't mean they won't be recording new songs anymore.

And anyway, even if Demi steps away from music completely, their health comes first, and it's brave of her to finally put her health first.
