Our first encounter with Tours-USA was for the arrangement of part of our world tour in 2020 for the Californian coast. Just six days before arrival was due in Los Angeles the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted our travel plans and we could not enter the USA due to the imposed lock-down. Under the valid payment conditions we would have forfeited all the prepaid hotel costs as no insurance would have covered this. Tours-USA then offered to convert the prepayment to a credit for use up to end of 2021. We made new plans for a trip then directly from Germany to Seattle and return from Los Angeles for September 2021. We decided to make use of a self-drive proposal based on the Best of the West tour. We added an additional leg at the beginning from Seattle to San Francisco with stops in Portland, Cresent City and Fort Bragg. At the end we replaced Palm Springs and Phoenix with an additional night in Grand Canyon and a night in Lake Havasu City on the way back to Los Angeles. The modification was no problem with Tours-USA and all hotels were organized and booked by them. However the US Government did not lift the entry ban for European citizens until November 2021 and again we had to change our timing. This time we moved the trip to May/June 2022 and Tours-USA revised all the reservations without any extra cost. At last in May 2022 we we permitted to come to the USA and we can comment on the tour itself: The daily timing for driving was always within our capability. Every hotel was expecting us and were in line with the description. With the provided digital road map we had a great deal of daily opportunities for each sector of travel. In total we travelled 2,894 miles from Seattle to Los Angeles, consumed 110 gallons of gas for US$ 652,21 and experienced a temperature range between 9° and 44° Celsius. We had two rainy days, obviously in the North, but not in Seattle but in Oregon and Northern California. Our highlights were certainly the Redwoods, Yosemite and the Grand Canyon area. We enjoyed both San Francisco and Los Angeles and each of these cities has its own specifics and merits. As a visitor you should see both if you can. Concerning Las Vegas we can only say fantastic hotels with thousands of excellent restaurants and many alternatives for a good show. However gambling is not really ours and it is quite frightening to see the extent of this in Las Vegas. We have seen it now and that is good and for us no need to return. Driving in the USA is actually far less intimidating as one may expect. American drivers are generally more cautious and most people appear to accept the American traffic regulations and observe speed limits. We certainly at most times used our cruise control with posted speed limits and never had any issues with the law. Out in the sticks it is of course necessary to keep awake when travelling for miles and miles in very lonely areas on long straights! We are grateful to Tours-USA for the selection and reservations of the hotels as they have the right experience and good rates which are passed on to their guests and strongly recommend them to travellers to the USA. Their program covers the whole of the USA and offers in addition to self-drive tours a great number of coach tours as well. We have plans for a new trip in September 2023 to the East Coast and have already requested a new quotation for this itinerary.

Dear Tours-Usa

Dear Tours-Usa, I would like to take the time to thank you for the great holiday we had with our 3 weeks self drive tour in the West. Everything was perfect, well organized. No problems with the hotels that were great. The road book was also a good traveler guide. We just had some difficulties to find the Chuckansi Hotel which was very far from Yosemite park when we arrived by the Tioga pass. We arrived at 11.30 pm after getting lost in the park … the google map was not enough precise. But overall we got a very good perception of your organization. And we will do next Florida.

1-Day Washington DC to Gettysburg Tour

1-Day Washington DC to Gettysburg Tour

Great trip to Gettysburg with Galen (driver) and Bruce )tour guide). Definitely worth it if you are interested in American history.

Fri Jul 04, 2025 at 05:39 AM

Galen provided an exceptional experience as our tour guide during the Gettysburg Battlefield tour. From the moment he picked us up, punctual and with a sparkling clean vehicle, to the insightful background he provided en route, he set the tone for an engaging and informative day. Galen's knowledge of the history and his anticipation of our questions made the journey as enriching as the destination. Upon arrival, he seamlessly facilitated our transition to the battlefield tour guide, ensuring a smooth continuation of the experience. His encouragement to ask questions to him and the battlefield guide exemplified his dedication to our satisfaction and learning. Moreover, Galen's thoughtfulness in providing refreshments throughout the day demonstrated his commitment to our comfort and enjoyment. His patience as we explored the museum and gift store and his willingness to accommodate our interests behind the scenes further highlighted his exceptional service. Without hesitation, I highly recommend Galen as a tour guide for anyone embarking on the Gettysburg Battlefield tour. His professionalism, knowledge, and attentiveness enhanced our experience, making it a memorable and enjoyable day.

The 15 Best Tour Operators in 2022

These are the companies Travel + Leisure readers trust to provide them with travel expertise and memorable experiences.

tours usa reviews

Note: If you’re looking for our most recent recommendations, check out the 2023 list of our favorite tour operators .

When it comes to an itinerary, Travel + Leisure readers want more than a string of photo opportunities — and the right tour operator makes all the difference in creating a trip of a lifetime versus one that simply checks off a list of sights. This year, our readers were especially drawn to companies that utilize local expertise and experience to thoughtfully design trips that will entertain as well as inspire.

Every year for our World's Best Awards survey , T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Readers rated tour operators and safari outfitters based on their staff and guides, itineraries and destinations, activities, accommodations, food, and overall value.

The top picks were noted for their deep knowledge of destinations and guides who "go the extra mile." One reader who has been traveling for more than five decades said a trip with Classic Journeys (No. 2) was the "very best" they had experienced. Others noted attention to pandemic safety details, while one who went to Norway was charmed by a "wonderful surprise dinner in Bergen out on the water that was fantastic."

Tour operators that seamlessly navigated the logistics of a trip also came out on top. Quasar Expeditions (No. 9) was noted "for really planning out every detail" so that "all you have to do is show up and have a great time." Meanwhile, of TCS World Travel (No. 10), a guest said: "You never lift a finger and just spend your time actually exploring the destination." They even added that they "learned so much" along the way.

Among the five companies on this year's list that weren't on last year's were two women-only tour operators that cater to travelers of all ages. AdventureWomen (No. 14) has multiday tours designed by women from Bhutan to Yellowstone National Park, while Explorer Chick (No. 15) has everything from day trips — like glassblowing in Baltimore and cave rappelling in St. Louis — to full itineraries in Machu Picchu and the Galápagos. One reader said her Everest Base Camp trip with AdventureWomen was filled with "like-minded women" who "bonded so well," while another said she felt it was a "safe tour group for women."

No matter which tour they chose, readers were most taken by the people they met along the way, as one said of Trek Travel (No. 13): "By the end of the trip, a group of strangers felt like longtime friends." Find out which other companies round out the list of the best tour operators below.

1. DuVine Cycling + Adventure Co.

A tour with DuVine goes far beyond just riding a bike — it's a way to really see the character of a destination. Case in point: even those who say they're not necessarily cycling fans have been converted. That's part of what helped the tour operator — which runs trips in Europe, the U.S., Latin America, and Africa — skyrocket from No. 14 last year to this year's top spot. Its "top-notch biking equipment" and "challenging but doable itineraries" didn't hurt either. One reader was especially taken by a guide picking figs off of a local tree in Puglia for an extra energy boost during a tough climb, as well as another guide singing to the group after dinner. As another reader put it simply: "They exceed your expectations."

Chaco Canyon

We visited Chaco Canyon with Kialo Winters. He was extremely helpful from the day I booked the tour. He sent us the Google map in a link after I told him we were driving from Gallup. This worked on our GPS all the way even though the website for the park said that GPS will not work and not to rely on it. He also sent our itinerary and information regarding COVID-19. When I told him we were vaccinated so not to worry, he texted back that he too was fully vaccinated. Kialo is well versed in the historical and cultural aspects of Chaco Canyon. He is personable and my husband and I enjoying getting to know him. My husband always has numerous questions for guides and Kialo answered all without becoming impatient as some guides we have had have. I know that Navajo Tours will continue to be successful if it continues in being as thoughtful and helpful as it was with us.

I just returned from spending 2.5 days with Kialo from Navajo Tours in the Bisti & Chaco Canyon area. We had a wonderful time visiting both well-known and much less-known sites. Kialo knows the area intimately and t information on both scientific topics as well as Native / traditional history of the area. He is an extremely interesting person involved with a ton of community development efforts as well. I'd highly recommend Navajo Tours for a fun and unique experience around Bisti.

We just came back from a tour with Kialo and Gil and had a fabulous time. Besides helping us navigate really remote terrains with great patience and knowledge, Kialo spent a good deal of time sharing stories from his cultural Navajo/Pueblo background. He clearly is very proud of his heritage and has dedicated his life to creating opportunities for his family and his people. If you go with Kialo, he will add a lot of dimensionality to this region and provide a tremendous amount of context and history that in itself is worthwhile, not to mention the stunning scenery we got to experience. I can't recommend his tour more highly. We also went to Chaco Canyon with him, another must-see highlight.

The Bisti Area is so incredibly fascinating The shapes. The colors. The humility of seeing a 70 million year old petrified tree, but what made it come alive for us was the knowledge of our guide Gilbert. His explanation of the geology of the formations, the sculptures formed by the movement of water over millennia, the Dinosaurs that roamed the area, I couldn’t be more grateful. This area has evolved over million of years, and it also saddens and angers me to know that people are touring this area and destroying these monuments of nature by toppling them over or moving the rocks into places that nature did not intend them. We saw two such incidents while we were there which had happened since Gilbert had been leading a hike the week before. This is my third Dine Tour in different areas and each has been beyond excellent

Just finished up a tour of the Bisti Badlands with Kialo Winters of Navajo Tours and what an experience!!! Kiaro is so conscientious and open to sharing his knowledge and history. He welcomes questions and dialogue and we learned so much more than we would have if we would have gone alone. We enjoyed every minute and Bisti Badlands is not to be missed especially with Navajo Tours!

Navajo Tours is an excellent ethically run company. My experience on two tours could not have been better. Both guides were experienced, informative and managed to use the time to maximize the diversity of cultural and scenic opportunities. I have taken many tours and have never had better results. The Bisti and Chaco Canyon tours were both wonderful.

Is Trafalgar tours worth it?

Now that we know a little more about what Trafalgar Tours offers, the next question is - are their tours worth it?

The short answer is yes!

Trafalgar Tours is an excellent choice if you're looking for an all-inclusive tour. Choose Trafalgar if you want someone else to take care of everything from accommodation to transfers to meals. With over 70 years of experience, they know how to create unforgettable vacations.

However, trips can get strenuous, especially with daily train travel. Discuss your interests with Trafalgar's customer service if you're looking for a more relaxed vacation. They can help you create a more customized trip that still includes all the best parts of a Trafalgar tour.

There have been reports of departure delays and itinerary changes. While this is rare, it's best to prepare yourself for the possibility. Make sure you have travel insurance and read reviews before booking anything.

But overall, we think Trafalgar Tours is worth it! But only if you're looking for a stress-free tour that's well-organized. But if it's a more relaxed vacation you're after, consider other travel organizers like  Intrepid Travel  and  EF Go Ahead .

Our ratings: 3.6/5

  • Tours in 72 countries
  • All-inclusive tours
  • Experienced and passionate local guides
  • Committed to responsible travel
  • 24-hour customer service
  • Poor accommodation choice
  • Frequent trip postponements
  • Poor customer service support
  • Failure to refund upon cancellation

All set to book your Trafalgar tour?

Now that we've answered whether Trafalgar tour's worth it, it's time to consider whether a tour is the right travel option for you. While tours like Trafalgar takes care of everything for you, planning your own trip can be so much more worth it.

Like many other tour companies, Globus goes a lot of places. But where it really shines is with its focus on creating different tour types to suit different travel styles. Globus tour types include:

  • Small Group Discoveries :   Globus’ small-group departures are offered on all Europe and North America tours. These Small Group Discoveries trips average 20 to 24 travelers (compared to classic tour group average group size of 38).

  • Independence by Globus :  New staring in 2023, Globus now offers a selection of independent city stay vacation packages (in Europe) and independent tours (in farther-flung destinations). • Special Event Tours : Globus also offers tours focused on North America’s iconic celebrations like Tournament of Roses Parade, Albuquerque’s Balloon Fiesta, and Alaska’s Iditarod race. These tours include up-close views and behind-the-scenes experiences.
  • Faith-Based Travel :   Globus offers a range of Faith-Based Vacations that offer a chance to reflect upon centuries of religious history.  These Europe-and-Middle-East-focused Christianity-based itineraries explore sacred locations in the Holy Land, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Tour Guides

Globus Tour Directors average over 20 years with the company.  Guides’ extensive training includes certification by the destination authority as well as proficiency in multiple languages, (including the local language). And most Tour Directors are from the country in which they tour.

About the company.

Caravan Tours began selling fully escorted tours in 1952. We have been under the same management and ownership ever since. In 1965, Roger Mudd hosted a two hours CBS TV special on Caravan Tours. This TV production took about one month to make and was so successful it inspired the 1968 romantic comedy movie “If it’s Tuesday this must be Belgium.” In the early 50’s the Mayor of Dublin presented Caravan with the Key to Dublin for bringing the first American tour to the city after WWII. Since then Caravan has been recognized as a pioneer in travel.

Great Value, Book Early

Caravan’s strong buying power gives you great vacations at prices much lower than you can find anywhere. Last year many of our tours sold out quickly. Book early for the date you prefer and the best airfare.

How does Caravan Tours sell these tours for such a low cost? Caravan delivers volume to our suppliers, who in turn reward us with their very best  prices we, in turn, pass these savings on to you, and you reward us by buying our tours.  As volume continues to rise, we then receive even better prices from our suppliers, and  we pass even greater savings on to you. This year our tours are better than ever. How satisfied are Caravan clients? The short answer is “very.” Our surveys are uniformly very positive. However we  continually strive to improve our tours, (they are often updated several times in the  course of one year), we study all client surveys and suggestions for improvement very  carefully. Pitch-Free Travel : Caravan includes all activities listed in the tour itinerary page. Caravan does not  sell any optional activities which can add hundreds of dollars to your tour price. Your  free time is scheduled in great settings where there is no need to buy additional  expensive activities.

Not Recommend This Tour Company

we have been booked onto the DC at nightfall tour within the small open top vehicle on February eight, 2024. Whilst our motive force/ manual failed to reveal , we have been moved to a full length everyday excursion bus. We have been promised money back for the difference in cost however that refund has but to reveal up on my credit score card announcement . The single excursion guide turned into overwhelmed by the 50 or so visitors. She had no mild to help keep song of her as other courses did. Several guests were given decided on from the organization within the dark. She had no voice amplification as other guides did. I would now not advise this tour agency

Big Scam Company

I would not recommend this service in any way. It was said to be direct starting from Los Angeles to Guatemala. This is a huge scam. passengers get off and on throughout the journey from Tijuana. It's a big scam. Carlos, who is working in the Olympic office, has even claimed that the Olympic office tested its people for Covid 19 in the COVID-19 crisis. it's not the case. This is a huge scam.

Very Unprofessional and Uninformed

I arrived at 8am to take an 8:15am tour. When the driver did not show and I called the business through the number provided and received a full mailbox and I called their cell number offered. The person I spoke to was able to assure me that the driver would be there in 3 minutes from the designated location. After waiting for another 30 mins I reached their contact number once again. It was an individual that tells that the bus left at 8:35 am. It is impossible that it left the designated location the time it did, as I was at the location prior the tour, throughout, and even following that period. Wasted my entire morning! Beware of this company

An excellent trip

I have had an incredible encounter with them. They provide an excellent trip that is genuinely exceptional.

I highly recommend USA Tours

I recently had the pleasure of taking a tour of New York, New England, and Canada with USA Tours, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. From start to finish, the tour was exceptionally well-organized and provided a comprehensive introduction to the sights and culture of the region. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly and always went the extra mile to ensure that our group was comfortable and well-informed. I highly recommend USA Tours to anyone looking for a top-notch tour experience.

In the course of planning, responses to emails were not time

In planning, responses to emails were not time, but in the end, we needed to develop different suggestions for our own. We could make reservations and find tickets for numerous excursions and other events online. Our tour guide was great however could have been more persuasive. The car's GPS required an explanation of how " lazy dog " performed. The GPS didn't get to us until the morning before departure. This was a disaster! The train was equipped with particular dimensions for bags to be carried on the journey. We didn't know much about it. We were a bit nervous about the train journey to Washington. The hotel was otherwise good, and we were on the car we booked through Usatours.

Sanna of USA Tours has been magical in helping us

Sanna of USA Tours has been magical in helping us come up with numerous trip suggestions. She has also been exceptionally accommodating to our needs and attentive throughout the process. I would strongly recommend the company.

The hotels they chose had great places and were of a high standard. And I felt that they were thinking about the value of their price when they came up with ideas for travel or content—good knowledge of the USA.

USA tours disclaims liability

Overall, the experience with USA Tours has been pleasant enough; however, we are a bit disoriented about how they are dealing with our hotel issue, which is not in any way satisfying. The hotel they reserved for us was unsafe and filthy. People walked from the streets and smoke ish on hallways. They also were shouting and arguing. The radiator in our room could not be shut off, and the door handle into the hall was loos (not easy to open). We did not have a bathroom we had not been informed of (this was a demand we had to meet). In the bathroom, there was black hair and clotted blood, and very filthy. So, the hotel appeared more like a hostel. The only thing that USA tours could do was provide a different hotel. However, we were required to pay again, so it was not something to hush for. We were able to find it without any help from USA tours. Now we're in the position that the corona incident ended our vacation, and our Ministry of Foreign Affairs called us back home. In this case, we cannot understand the disclaimer and management of responsibility and service from the United States despite a contradicting legal obligation.

I highly recommend USA tours

I highly recommend USA tours. We had to cancel our dream trip to California due to Covid-19. We have always received excellent service and feel that they will do everything for us, even in difficult situations.

Super good service

I booked a trip in January for my kids and me; we would leave in week 41 for 11 days to New York and Miami Beach, respectively. I got super good help from friendly Maria from the first call until everything was in place. Super service and friendly, skilled staff despite pure adversity with corona every day at work.

When we got close to the date, and the corona was still here, I started to think that now you should have enough hassle to get money back as you had heard so many do elsewhere, but in good time Stefan called from USA tours, which kindly explained what I was going to do and well 14 days after all the money was back.

AXA Assistance USA Travel Insurance Review 2024

Affiliate links for the products on this page are from partners that compensate us (see our advertiser disclosure with our list of partners for more details). However, our opinions are our own. See how we rate insurance products to write unbiased product reviews.

Travel insurance is important because it can help cover the cost of unexpected medical expenses while you're traveling. It can also reimburse you for lost or stolen baggage, canceled flights, and other unforeseeable problems that may occur while you're away from home.

Simply put, there's a lot to consider.

But not all policies are created equal, and you must understand what you're covered for before you purchase a policy. This article will look in-depth at AXA Assistance USA travel insurance. We'll discuss the costs, coverage limits, exclusions, and more to help you make an informed decision about whether or not this particular travel insurance provider is right for you.

AXA Assistance USA keeps travel insurance simple with gold, silver, and platinum plans. Emergency medical and CFAR are a couple of the options you can expect. Read on to learn more about AXA.

  • Silver, Gold, and Platinum plans available
  • Trip interruption coverage of up to 150% of the trip cost
  • Emergency medical coverage of up to $250,000

AXA Assistance USA is among the best travel insurance companies . It covers the fundamentals of travel insurance, with coverage for trip cancellations, medical expenses, and emergency medical/non-medical evacuation. With three plans, AXA also offers coverage for travelers with various budgets.

It's worth noting that many important add-ons aren't available for AXA's cheapest Silver plan, such as pre-existing condition coverage, rental car add-ons, and Schengen travel insurance. Cancel for any reason coverage is also only available for AXA's most expensive Platinum plan.

Coverage Options Offered by AXA

AXA Assistance USA offers three levels of coverage: Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Each plan comes with different protections and varying coverage limits, with the Silver being the most basic option and Platinum offering the most premium coverage.

Some policies might even include added coverage free of charge, such as a waiver for pre-existing conditions , which is free for Gold and Platinum plans as long as you purchase your plan within 14 days of your trip deposit.

Specialized Coverage Options

The plan you purchase will determine which add-ons are available. For example, those with a Platinum plan can add CFAR (cancel for any reason) coverage , allowing you to receive a full refund if you cancel your trip within 14 days of making the initial deposit.

Or, if you want extra protection for your rental car, depending on your AXA plan, you might be able to add a collision damage waiver (CDW). Policyholders with Gold plans can add $35,000 CDW, and those with Platinum plans can include $50,000 CDW.

If you're traveling within the Schengen Territory, which is made up of 27 European countries, you may eligible for Schengen Travel Insurance, which covers you in all 27 countries. This option is only available for Gold and Platinum travelers and coverage lasts up to 90 days.

AXA Assistance USA Travel Insurance Cost

The premium you pay will depend on various factors, including the age of the travelers, destination, and total trip costs. The average cost of travel insurance is 4% to 8% of your travel costs.

After inputting some personal information, such as your age and state of residence, along with your trip details, like travel dates, destination, and trip costs, you'll get an instant quote for the plans available for your trip. And from there, it's easy to compare each option based on your coverage needs and budget.

Now let's look at a few examples to estimate AXA's coverage costs.

As of 2024, a 23-year-old from Illinois taking a week-long, $3,000 budget trip to Italy would have the following  AXA travel insurance quotes:

  • AXA Silver: $83
  • AXA Gold: $107
  • AXA Platinum: $127

Premiums for AXA plans are between 2.7% and 4.2% of the trip's cost, well below the average cost of travel insurance. It's also relatively cheap compared to many of its competitors

AXA provides the following quotes for a 30-year-old traveler from California heading to Japan for two weeks on a $4,000 trip:

  • AXA Silver: $109
  • AXA Gold: $128
  • AXA Platinum: $153

Once again, premiums forAXA plans are between 3.6% and 3.8%, below the average cost for travel insurance.

A 65-year-old couple looking to escape New York for Mexico for two weeks with a trip cost of $6,000 would have the following AXA quotes:

  • AXA Silver: $392
  • AXA Gold: $462
  • AXA Platinum: $550

Premiums for AXA plans are between 6.5% and 9.2%, which is roughly in line with the average cost for travel insurance. This is to be expected, as travel insurance is often more expensive for older travelers.

How to Purchase and Manage Your AXA Policy

The process of purchasing an AXA policy is simple. After obtaining your quote, you'll need to decide which of AXA's three plans you want to buy. When you pay for your plan, be prepared to provide additional personal information, like your birthday, phone number, and address.

Once you finalize your purchase, you'll have a 10-day free look period, in which you can cancel your policy and get your money back.

How to File a Claim with AXA Travel Insurance

To file a claim with AXA Assistance USA, head to the claims forms online to find the appropriate form. Once you've filled out your form and gathered the required documentation, you can email them to [email protected] or send them by mail to:

AXA Assistance USA

AXA's U.S. branch has few reviews on Trustpilot and the Better Business Bureau — just over 20 between the two sites. Its UK branch has over 1,100 reviews, most of which are overwhelmingly negative. However, the quality of AXA Travel Insurance UK isn't necessarily indicative of its U.S. coverage.

In fact, on SquareMouth, where the majority of AXA U.S.'s reviews, reviews are generally positive. It received an average of 4.22 stars out of five across over 900 reviews. Customers reported that adjusting an AXA policy was easy and the customer service team was responsive. However, reviews on the claims process was more mixed, with spotty communication and long wait times.

See how AXA travel insurance compares to top travel insurance providers.

AXA Assistance USA vs. AIG Travel Guard

When comparing AXA to Travel Guard , we'll look at the coverage levels from their mid-tier plans, the Silver plan and Travel Guard Preferred plan, respectively.

With Travel Guard Preferred plan, you'll get:

  • Trip cancellation coverage up to $150,000
  • Trip interruption coverage up to $225,000
  • Emergency medical coverage of $50,000
  • Coverage for baggage loss, theft, or damage up to $1,000
  • Travel delay coverage of up to $800

Comparing those Travel Guard coverages with AXA's Silver plan, you'll see that AXA's coverage limits are a bit higher. With AXA's Silver plan you'll get $100,000 in emergency medical coverage, for example. And the baggage loss coverage limit is up to $1,500.

If you're looking for greater coverage limits, AXA makes the most sense in this scenario. But premiums will also vary based on factors like the traveler's age, trip destination, and trip cost. So you'll have to run your own numbers to make a final decision.

AXA Assistance USA vs. Allianz Travel Insurance

Allianz Travel Insurance provides single-trip and multi-trip insurance for travelers who want to go abroad for an extended period of time. And, like with all insurance, the various plans have varying degrees of coverage.

Allianz Travel Insurance's most popular single-trip option is the OneTrip Prime plan, which offers:

  • Trip cancellation coverage up to $100,000
  • Trip interruption coverage up to $150,000
  • Emergency medical coverage for $50,000
  • Coverage for baggage loss, theft or damage up to $1,000
  • Travel delay coverage up to $800

Looking at AXA's mid-tier Silver plan, you'll see that, again, AXA offers more coverage for emergency medical and baggage loss, theft, or damage than Allianz Travel Insurance. That said, if cost is an essential factor for you, you'll have to get quotes using your personal trip information to make an informed decision.

AXA Assistance USA vs. Credit Card Travel Insurance

Already have a great travel credit card, like the Chase Sapphire Reserve or American Express Platinum? Some of the standard coverages, such as rental car insurance, may be included in the card you already have. It's a good idea to research the terms of your credit card's travel protection before purchasing a separate travel insurance policy.

If you're driving to your destination and don't have any non-refundable trip expenses, the coverage from your credit card may be enough. Another time it might work is if you have health insurance covering you while abroad and you're in good health without worrying about possible medical costs.

It's essential to remember that credit card coverage is usually secondary. This means you'll have to file a claim with the other applicable insurance before filing a claim with your credit card company.

Read our guide on the best credit cards with travel insurance here.

Why You Should Trust Us: How We Reviewed AXA Assistance USA

We researched AXA by evaluating its travel insurance plans compared to other plans from the top travel insurance companies. The aspects we looked at included, but were not limited to, different coverage options, claims limits, what is covered, available add-ons, and extra services for policy holders.

What's important when choosing a policy isn't just the price — it's making sure you're getting adequate coverage that meets your needs without breaking the bank. Filing a claim should also be easy and stress-free if you ever have to use your policy.

AXA Assistance USA FAQs

If you're diagnosed with COVID-19 before a trip and need to cancel, AXA may cover your expenses. Additionally, a COVID-19 diagnosis during a trip may be covered under AXA's medical expense, trip interruption, and trip delay benefits. Be sure to review your policy to ensure coverage details.

While you may extend your coverage in certain circumstances, such as extended hospitalization, and update your travel dates prior to your departure, you can't extend AXA travel insurance plans while you're traveling.

AXA's Gold and Platinum plan cover pre-existing medical conditions as long as you purchase your policy within 14 days of your initial trip deposit. AXA's Silver plan does not cover pre-existing conditions and has a 60-day look-back period.

You can download AXA claims forms on its website and email them to [email protected].

AXA isn't the most flexible travel insurance company and isn't great at specializing, but it offers comprehensive general coverage. Its prices aren't significantly more expensive or cheaper than its competitors.

HOUSTON (AP) — Time marches on and all good things must come to an end. But don’t tell that to The Rolling Stones .

What many believe to be the greatest rock ’n’ roll band in the world showed no signs of slowing down anytime soon as they kicked off their latest tour Sunday night at Houston’s NRG Stadium.

The Stones have been touring for more than 60 years. Frontman Mick Jagger and lead guitarist Keith Richards are both 80, with guitarist Ronnie Wood not far behind at 76. Their tour is being sponsored in part by AARP.

But during a vibrant two-hour show, the Stones played with the energy of band that was on tour for the first time.

“It’s great to be back in the Lone Star State,” Jagger told the packed stadium, filled with longtime fans, many wearing faded concert shirts from previous tours.

Jagger often strutted up and down the stage with seemingly boundless energy while Richards and Wood played many familiar guitar riffs beloved by fans. Jagger often led the audience in sing-alongs.

“The energy level is up and it’s always up with them. The age doesn’t show,” Dale Skjerseth, the Stones’ production director, said Friday before the concert.

This image released by A24 shows Jeremy Allen White, left, and Harris Dickinson in a scene from "The Iron Claw." (Brian Roedel/A24 via AP)

The Stones have hit the road to support the release of their latest album, “Hackney Diamonds,” the band’s first record of original music since 2005.

Houston was the first stop on the band’s 16-city tour across the U.S. and Canada. Other cities on the tour include New Orleans, Philadelphia and Vancouver, British Columbia. The tour ends on July 17 in Santa Clara, California.

During Sunday’s 18-song concert set list, the Stones played several tracks off the new record, including lead single “Angry.” They also played classics including “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Gimme Shelter,” Honky Tonk Women” and “Start Me Up.”

After playing “Beast of Burden,” Jagger said that concertgoers in Houston had voted to include it on the set list.

“You can’t go wrong with that,” one man in the audience could be heard screaming.

The Stones also played some unexpected choices, including “Rocks Off,” from their 1972 double album “Exile on Main St.” and “Out of Time,” a 1966 song that Jagger said during the concert had not ever been played by the band in the U.S.

With the 2021 death of drummer Charlie Watts , the Stones are now comprised of the core trio of Jagger, Richards and Wood. On Sunday, they were backed by various musicians including two keyboardists, a new drummer, backup singers and a brass section.

While the stage was surrounded by a large collection of video screens projecting images throughout the show, the main focus of the concert was the band and their songs

Before Sunday’s concert, Jagger spent time on Friday touring NASA’s Johnson Space Center in suburban Houston, posting photos on his Instagram account of him with astronauts inside Mission Control.

“I had an amazing trip to the space center,” Jagger said.

When asked if the band might be thinking about retiring, Skjerseth said he doubts that will happen.

“This is not the end. They’re very enthused,” he said.

This story has been updated to correct a song title to “Gimme Shelter,” not “Gimmer Shelter.”

About MetLife pet insurance

MetLife is one of the oldest insurance companies, dating back to 1864. The company began offering pet insurance in 2021. MetLife partners with many employers across the country to offer reduced rates or payroll deductions for its employees. It also has many discounts available.

Pet insurance through MetLife is more affordable than some other carriers, but may not be the cheapest option available. You can choose a high deductible option of $2,500 to save on your monthly premium, but you’re limited to only $10,000 in annual coverage.

Though its claims processing can take time, policyholders can enjoy benefits like a one-day waiting period on accidents, grief counseling and 24/7 vet telehealth services. This MetLife pet insurance review can help you decide if it’s the best option for your pet.

What MetLife pet insurance covers

MetLife has an accident and illness plan available, plus an optional wellness plan add-on to cover your pet’s routine and preventive care.

In some areas, you may be eligible for an accident-only pet insurance plan. This is a cheaper option because it only covers accident-related veterinary expenses, but excludes illness coverage.

Accident and illness coverage

MetLife accident and illness coverage includes:

  • Accidents, such as insect stings, ingesting poison or broken bones.
  • Advertising and reward for lost pets.
  • Alternative and holistic care therapies.
  • Congenital, chronic and hereditary conditions.
  • Diagnostic testing.
  • Emergency and specialty care.
  • Grief counseling after your pet’s death.
  • Hospitalization.
  • Illnesses, such as ear infections, diarrhea and vomiting.
  • Prescription medications.
  • Prescription pet food.
  • Ultrasounds.

Wellness plan coverage

MetLife’s wellness plan offers basic wellness plan coverage for your pet’s general health, which includes:

  • Flea, tick and heartworm preventives.
  • Routine checkups.
  • Vaccinations.

What MetLife pet insurance doesn’t cover

As with all pet insurance companies, MetLife has exclusions. This carrier doesn’t cover:

  • Microchipping.
  • Breeding and related conditions.
  • Cosmetic and elective procedures.
  • Grooming and bathing costs.
  • Injury or illness from racing, guarding, fighting or coursing.
  • Organ transplants.
  • Non-prescription food.
  • Health or travel certificates.

Metlife also will not cover pre-existing conditions unless they are considered curable. If your pet goes a period of time without symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, bladder, ear, respiratory, or urinary tract infections, Metlife will consider covering them.

How to get MetLife pet insurance

You can get MetLife pet insurance online or by calling the company directly. Your employer may offer MetLife pet insurance as part of your employee benefits package. Ask your human resource department to find out.

MetLife pet insurance review FAQs

No, MetLife does not require your pet to be spayed or neutered to get pet insurance for your cat or dog. If your pet is not spayed or neutered before buying MetLife pet insurance, consider its wellness plan add-on, which can include some coverage for your pet’s spay or neuter costs .

Yes, with MetLife, you can take your pet to any licensed veterinarian, including emergency vet clinics. You’ll pay for your pet’s care in full up front, then file a claim for reimbursement under your MetLife pet insurance plan.

Yes, MetLife pet insurance covers medications, as long as they are prescribed by a licensed veterinarian for a coverable condition. This includes injections, liquids, pills and compounded medications, whether administered by the pet parent or the veterinarian.

MetLife’s standard pet insurance plan does not cover routine vet visits, but it will cover your pet’s exam fees if it is seen for a covered accident or illness. Routine vet visits are only covered by MetLife’s extra-cost wellness plan for pets.
