Red Dead Online Wilderness Camp - how to unlock and set up a Wilderness Camp

A Red Dead Online Wilderness Camp lets you rest, craft, and cook anywhere, and this is how you access it

The Red Dead Online Wilderness Camp is a great tool to have at your disposal, as it gives you the option of quickly throwing down a fire to rest, craft, and cook at wherever you are on your travels. Locating and travelling to your main Cripps Camp has long been a bone of contention with Red Dead Online players, and even with the option from the main starting menu to spawn there directly it's still often inconvenient to find it when you're out roaming the plains. Helpfully there is a portable solution available for this, so here's what you need to know about unlocking and setting up a Red Dead Online Wilderness Camp.

How to unlock the Red Dead Online Wilderness Camp

Unfortunately if you're looking for a fast route to unlock the Red Dead Online Wilderness Camp then you're out of luck, as there are several steps you have to complete before you can access it. First, if you haven't already begun the Red Dead Online Naturalist role then head to the Welcome Center in Strawberry, where you'll meet Harriet Davenport and Gus MacMillan. You can then complete Naturalist work for either of them, to increase your rank in that role.

Once you reach rank 5 of the Naturalist role, the Red Dead Online Wilderness Camp will become available for purchase from Harriet Davenport at any of her camps. It will, however, cost you $750 plus two role tokens, so make sure you have the necessary resources available to fund this.

How to use the Red Dead Online Wilderness Camp

To set up a Red Dead Online Wilderness Camp, all you need to do is bring up the weapon wheel then move over to the Items tab, select the bottom segment and scroll through the choices available to find the Crafting Wilderness Camp option. This will then set up a camp as close to your current location as possible in the nearest available position, where you can then rest, craft, and cook without having to go off searching for Cripps. Be aware that if you move too far away from your Wilderness Camp, it'll disappear and you'll have to set up a new one to use it again, though at least this doesn't cost you any resources.

How to set up a Wilderness Camp - Red Dead Online

Everything you need to know to purchase and set up a Wilderness Camp in Red Dead Online.

The Naturalist update for Red Dead Online introduced a number of things, including the Wilderness Camp. Unlike Cripps Camp, which cost money to erect and can only be put up in certain places, the Wilderness Camp can be placed down anywhere. But how exactly does one go about setting up the Wilderness Camp? Here’s what you need to know.

How to set up a Wilderness Camp

Players can set up the Wilderness Camp from their Weapon Wheel at any time. However, there are some stipulations. First, you’re going to need to unlock the camp itself by moving through the Naturalist Frontier Pursuit ranks. You’ll need to hit at least Rank 5 or so to unlock the Wilderness Camp, and even then, you’ll need to spend 2 Tokens to purchase the ability to unlock it.

Once you have unlocked the ability to purchase the Wilderness Camp, you’re going to need to visit Harriet Davenport and purchase it for $750. This might seem like a lot, but considering the fact that this will give you the ability to place the Wilderness Camp at any time, it is more than worth the price that you will pay to get set up.

As stated before, you can set the Wilderness Camp up from your Weapon Wheel at any point throughout your travels. Simply pull up the Weapon Wheel and then scroll to the Items area. From here, locate the bottom section where the Camp icon is and scroll through the options to the Wilderness Camp icon. The thing to note here is that the Wilderness Camp doesn’t always set up exactly where you are. Much like the single player variation, the camp will snap to the nearest “free zone” that it can be placed in. Another useful thing to keep in mind is that straying too far from the campsite will cause it to despawn and you’ll have to set it up again.

I totally fucked up... instead of using my gold I already had to buy into the Naturist role, and then level up that role earning more gold, etc., I bought the Outlaw Pass instead, forgetting that the 40 gold bars I get back is over time and not all at once. The first Outlaw pass I got everything all at once because by the time I bought it I was already fully leveled. Anyway, now I have no gold to buy the naturist role. Fuck.

The RDR2 Online wilderness camp fast travel bug fix has been coming up pretty often now that the Blood Money update is out. A lot of people have been asking what to do about this issue, because, if you cant travel from your wilderness camp in Red Dead Online, that’s a major annoyance. Fortunately, there’s a fairly easy way to make the bug go away, because it’s not really a bug in the first place, as we’re about to explain.

Can’t Travel From Wilderness Camp Bug Fix in RDR2 Online

The fix for the bug where you can’t travel from your wilderness camp in the RDR2 Online Blood Money update, the fix is very simple – re-read your pamphlets. It appears that all of them have been reset for reasons I’m not entirely sure I understand, but that seems to be the solution that comes up again and again among the players. So, basically, what you need to do is go into your skill pages and find the relevant pamphlet. Then, press the button that brings the text up (Square on PlayStation) in order to actually “read” it, or rather, for the game to count it as such. After that, you should be able to start fast-traveling freely. While you’re there, you might consider re-reading all the pamphlets you’re gonna be using.

So, that’s about all there is to it when it comes to the RDR2 Online Wildnerness Camp fast travel bug fix. It’s a simple solution, but really, if you can easily miss it if you aren’t paying attention. Well, now we have that settled, but there are several other matters that might present a problem. hi nice to too know solved my problem of fast travel but i cant aim to toggle from horse since blood money any help would be good its not just me 🙂

I would have never guessed , I also do not get hits using my metal detector on diggables and coins>?

I’ve tried to do it that still does not work. As off July 17 2021

How to Unlock Fast Travel in Red Dead Online

The fast travel system in Red Dead Online is almost identical to the one found in Red Dead Redemption 2 . Stagecoaches still play a large role in getting you around the map, and using the cinematic camera to ride your horse from one waypoint to another is still a good option. 

However, there are a few caveats in the fast travel system that are worth noting. 

Fast Traveling From Your Camp

Unlocking fast travel in Red Dead Redemption 2  meant getting the ledger and buying the Next in Line upgrade. However, unlocking fast travel in Red Dead Online has one of two requirements: 

• Reach level 65 
• Pay 112 gold

Arguably, neither of those tasks is easy, with the 112 gold requirement being especially difficult seeing that you get such little gold from missions and multiplayer modes like Most Wanted.

How to Access Fast Travel From Your Camp

However, once you do meet one of those requirements, you can access fast travel in your camp by: 

• Going to Cripps and focusing on him 
• Selecting “ Wilderness Outfitters ” 
• Choosing “ Equipment “

Traveling by Other Means

Almost every one of the major hubs in Red Dead Online is connected by stagecoach as soon as you enter free roam. When you reach them, you’ll be looking for posts with ram skulls on top of them and a  broken stagecoach wheel leaning against them instead of the prim and proper signs from the base game. 

As you would expect, there are different prices for traveling to each of the hubs. However, know that traveling to your camp from any of the hubs — even those very close to your camp — will set you back a flat $15. 

You can also “fast travel” by using the cinematic camera while riding your horse. Simply place a waypoint, start riding, and activate the cinematic camera. Make sure you are on a road or designated path or your horse will just go forward a few steps and stop.

Red Dead Online’s Travel Awards are among the unique challenges that players can complete in the online component of RDR2 to receive additional XP for their character.

The Awards aren’t just limited to Travel, as there are many others divided into different categories – Sharpshooter ,  Combat ,  Hunting , Survivalist , Crimes , Travel , Trade , General , Horse , Posse , Free Roam and Competitive . Completing all the tiers of any single challenge will reward players with a Gold Buckle , which doesn’t give any real improvement to your character, but allows you to brag with your Posse members. Any Gold Buckle can be equipped on your character by accessing the wardrobe at camp.

In this guide, we will be taking a look at the Travel Awards and providing some useful tips to complete them in the fastest possible way.

Awards Overview

The Travel Awards, just as the name implies, are completed by traveling the map in a variety of ways. Distances required to complete the final tier of many of these challenges are rather large, so you will end up spending a considerable amount of time just roaming the map. As such, you may want to attempt completing other challenges, such as the Survivalist Awards , while taking on a Travel award to make things less monotonous.

A True Traveler

The first Travel Awards requires players to travel by train for a set amount of miles. You need to be on a train for 10 miles to complete the first tier, 50 miles for the second, 100 miles for the third, 500 miles for the fourth and 1,000 miles for the fifth and final tier. There is no real way to speed up the completion process for this award, so just hop onto a train and wait until you have cleared each tier.

You can also get on the train and leave the game running, you may end up being attacked by another player, but at least you will have made some progress without actively playing the game.

The second award is definitely more time-consuming, but the time spent trying to complete it can be put to good use in completing other awards or simply enjoying the game, as you will have to travel set distances on foot. You need to travel 10 miles for the first tier, 50 miles for the second, 100 miles for the third, 500 miles for the fourth and 1,000 miles for the fifth and final tier.

Since you have to walk on foot, you need to play the game actively, unlike the travel by train award, so you can use this time to complete some other challenges, like the Survivalist award requiring you to collect certain amounts of herbs , or even some of the Hunting awards , as the distance traveled to track animals counts toward this award’s progression.

The third Travel award may be one of the trickiest to complete of the category, especially if you don’t know where to find a canoe, as you will have to travel with it for a certain amount of miles. This is a multi-tiered challenge requiring players to travel 5 miles for the first tier, 25 for the second, 50 for the third, 75 for the fourth, and 100 for the fifth and final. Canoes can be found in several locations near lakes, the easiest to find is near Lagras in the Bayou Nwa region. You can also use the canoe found at the Flat Iron Lake fishing location. Just hop onto one, and make a tour of the lake several times to cover the required distance.

The fourth Travel award, as opposed to the third, is one of the easiest to complete, and if you have played Red Dead Online for a good number of hours, you will have already made some progress for it. This award involves players traveling a certain amount of miles by horse: 10 miles for the first tier, 50 for the second, 100 miles for the third, 500 miles for the fourth and 1,000 miles for the fifth and final tier. Since most of your traveling in the game is done on horseback, you probably won’t even have to try to complete this challenge, as it will be unlocked by playing the game regularly for the vast majority of players.

If you have attempted to complete any of the above awards, there’s a very good chance you have unlocked the following award already, since it requires players to travel a total of 1,898 miles. Even if you are not really trying, there’s a very good chance you will complete this challenge without even realizing, considering the amount of traveling that has to be done in Red Dead Online.

Riding In The Wind

The following set of Travel awards involves horses. The first of these awards requires players to jump from a horse onto a moving train multiple times. This is a multi-tiered award requiring players to do so 5 times for the first tier, 25 times for the second, 50 times for the third, 75 for the fourth and 100 times for the fifth and final tier.

Completing this challenge is extremely easy, if not a little time-consuming. Get near any of the stations available on the map, such as those near cities and towns, wait for a train to arrive, follow it for a bit and then jump on it from your horse. As it’s not possible to purchase train tickets in Red Dead Online (unlike in the story mode), there is no way to make trains spawn more often. Just be patient and you will complete this award.

The next three Travel awards are similar to some of the Challenges seen in the single-player mode, as they require players to get from one point on the map to another, on horseback. The first one requires players to get from Valentine to Strawberry in 3 minutes and 30 seconds. For the second, players must get to Braithwaite Manor from Emerald Ranch in 3 minutes and 45 seconds. The third needs players to go from Colter to Adler’s Ranch in 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Unlike the single-player challenges , which featured some additional conditions, these ones are pretty straightforward, as in all three cases following the suggested road on the map when placing waypoints is more than enough to complete the journey in time. Just make sure to have a horse with good speed and stamina and you will be set. Also make sure to bring plenty of Horse Stimulants, as you will need to restore your horse’s stamina on the fly.

The final two Travel awards are among the easiest to complete in all of Red Dead Online.

For the first one, you need to travel by coach for a set number of miles. This is a multi-tiered award requiring players to travel for 5 miles for the first tier, 25 miles for the second, 50 miles for the third, 75 miles for the fourth and 100 miles for the fifth and final award. Just travel on the road for a while until you encounter a coach, steal it and then travel the required amount of miles. There’s no way to speed up the completion process, but 100 miles is not a huge distance to cover.

The final Travel award is even more straightforward than the previous one, as you need to travel as a coach passenger for a set amount of miles: 5 miles for the first tier, 25 miles for the second, 50 miles for the third, 75 for the fourth and 100 for the fifth and final. Completing this one is very easy, just hop on any coach and travel the required amount of miles. The location of stagecoaches is marked on the map, so you will have no trouble locating the one that’s closest to you.
