The Grand Tour 2 promises more thrills, spills, and squabbling In December

Those are the words uttered by Jeremy Clarkson at the very start of the trailer for the second season of The Grand Tour  car show. Clarkson is behind the wheel of a Jag, staring down at a snow-covered and very steep ski run. One that he’s about to drive down. No wonder he said, “Holy mother of God.”

The Grand Tour season 2 kicks off on December 8, 2017, and the two-minute trailer indicates it’s going to be just as outlandish, puckish, and holy-mother-of-God-ish as the debut season that hit screens a year ago.

Available exclusively to Amazon Prime members, the new  Grand Tour was filmed across five continents, although the tent that traveled with Clarkson, Hammond, and May in season 1 for the audience-filled studio segments will this time stay put in the Cotswolds, a picturesque rural area in south-west England.

Amazon describes The Grand Tour as “the world’s greatest show about three middle-aged men rampaging around the world having unusual adventures, driving amazing cars, and engaging in a constant argument about which of them is the biggest idiot.”

The new trailer is as slick as they come, with beautiful aerial shots of spectacular scenery from around the world, dramatic action sequences, and plenty of squabbling, just like we’ve come to expect from the British trio.

One sequence shows May telling Hammond in no uncertain terms, “You realize that can result in your death,” well aware that the Hamster has almost died at least twice while filming car shows, once for Top Gear in a high-speed dragster smash back in 2006, and again more recently during filming for this latest season of The Grand Tour when he lost control of a million-dollar Rimac Concept One electric supercar.

The car flew in the air for around 100 feet before hitting the ground and rolling down a bank. But that was the least of his troubles. When it came to rest, the car burst into flames, forcing a luckily still-conscious Hammond to scramble out before the whole thing went up. Incredibly, he escaped with only a fractured knee. Clarkson, who saw the whole thing happen, described it as the most frightening crash he’d ever seen.

Wonder if it’ll make the final edit.

WSC reveals more information on 2023 TCR World Tour format

More information has been revealed by WSC Group about the 2023 TCR World Tour, which will serve as the top-level of international touring car competition this year culminating in the TCR World Final.

Announced last year, the TCR World Tour effectively takes the place of the now-defunct FIA World Touring Car Cup as the top-level of international touring car racing – and means 2023 will be the first time since 2000 without an FIA title attributed to touring car racing.

A maximum of 16 full-season TCR World Tour entrants will be permitted, with the deadline for entries being the end of February 2023.

Only teams which commit to the full season are eligible for a logistics contribution for the events outside Europe (in South America, Australia and Asia).

The series will adopt the sporting regulations of the local championship which it is part of the event at. The control tyre for the series will be the Kumho TCR tyre.

The qualifying format for all events except the finale will be a two-part split, with a 20-minute Q1 session followed by a 10-minute A2 session open to the 12 fastest drivers in Q1.

Only for the event supporting the TCR Asia Challenge, expected to be at Macau in November, will the format be slightly different (owing to it being a street circuit), with a 30-minute Q1 and a 15-minute Q2 open to the 12 fastest drivers in Q1.

For the first four events (three supporting TCR Europe and one supporting TCR Italy) there will be two 55 kilometre races per weekend.

When the series then moves to South America in August, two 30-minute races (plus one lap) will be held.

For the first of the TCR Australia events in November, three 30-minute races will be held. The second TCR Australia event at Bathurst will be limited to three 21-lap races.

The season finale in Asia then reverts back to a brace of 55 km races as per the opening four events.

Points in qualifying will be allocated on a 15-10-8-6-4-2 basis to the top six drivers in the final result.

Points in the races will be consistent irrespective of the number of races per weekend, and will be allocated on the basis of 30-25-22-20-18-16-14-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1 to the top fifteen drivers.

All drivers in the TCR World Tour events are eligible to score points for the TCR World Tour and the TCR world Ranking. But TCR World Tour full-season drivers will not score points for the local TCR series hosting the event.

In the TCR World Ranking system, drivers who compete in the TCR World Tour will gain an additional 50% points compared to other eligible TCR World Ranking series.

Compensation weight will be deployed, as has been the case in recent World Touring Car seasons. The system will be based on the fastest qualifying laps set in the previous TCR World Tour event, with a range of 0 to 40 kg in 10kg increments.

Local competitors in TCR World Tour events are subject to the compensation weight system taking into account the results in their local TCR series.

The TCR World Final

Following the ninth event of the season in November, the top 15 drivers in the overall classification of the TCR World Tour will directly qualify for the final race of the TCR World Final event.

They will be joined by additional drivers who are the first 15 TCR World Ranking competitors classified after the play-off.

The opening round of the 2023 TCR World Tour takes place at the Autodrómo do Algarve in Portugal, as part of TCR Europe, on 28 – 30 April.

The Grand Tour: A Scandi Flick – Cars Of The Episode Revealed

The Grand Tour: A Scandi Flick has finally been revealed to the world through its official trailer which was released today. And while we’ve been updating you with everything we can ahead of the show’s reveal, we’ve now got full confirmation of the cars involved in Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond, and James May’s trip across Norway.

The trailer gives us plenty to chew on, including the run-up to James May’s huge crash . But for us gearheads, we now know what cars they’re driving in the show, and who’s driving them.

Obviously, hence the name, the episode will likely revolve around the world of rally racing, and each of these three cars have a strong tie to, and history in the sport.

Let’s dig in.

Jeremy Clarkson in the Audi RS4 B7

Jeremy had already revealed that he’d bought an Audi RS4 for the show many, many months ago, but before seeing behind the scenes photos of the filming of this episode, we didn’t know it would be for this.

Obviously, the connection to rally here is the Quattro term that Audi now uses for its all-wheel drive system. But let’s explore this car a little further.

It was released in 2005 by Audi, and while the look of the car didn’t blow people away, the 4.2-litre V8 engine did with direct fuel injection and maximum revs of a shrieking 8500rpm. It produced 414 horsepower, with these horses being delivered to all four wheels. There was only one gearbox available, but surprisingly it was a manual with six speeds and, once you pressed the sport button, the throttle response would make this delicious powertrain even more exciting and bypass valves would make it sound as good as it went.

The exterior still felt very sedate, but now offered wider arches over the standard A4 as well as aluminium front wings and bonnet. And a bit later on, the RS4 badge was placed onto the wagon version, too.

As you can see form the trailer, Jeremy’s RS4 eventually gets wrapped in Quattro colours, fitted with Cibbies at the front, and somehow gets completely frozen over, resulting in Jeremy setting it on fire. Poor thing.

Richard Hammond in the Subaru Impreza WRX

We first saw the Subaru WRX in an Instagram post by Jeremy Clarkson, but it’s confirmed that it’s being driven by Richard Hammond who has driven one of these cars before in the Africa special of Top Gear .

These cars are pure rally inspired and burble as much as a cat trapped in a corner thanks to its Boxer engine. Many Subaru fans weren’t completely taken with the looks of the ‘Blobeye’ Impreza, but since its release it has become motoring legend thanks to its connection to rally and its insane performance.

Its engine is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder Boxer engine with help from a single turbo. It’s low on weight and has a low centre of gravity, and gives it the car its iconic sound as well as 261 horsepower. It’s not quite as potent as Jeremy’s RS4, but with its trick all-wheel drive system and a bit of talent behind the wheel, it could well keep up with it in the corners.

In this episode it’s been given the Martini colours, but we can see later on that the ‘I’ at the end of ‘Martini’ has been coloured in.

James May’s Mitsubishi Evo 8

The car of the hour, this Mitsubishi Evo 8 driven by James May has had quite a life according to reports. It was crashed by the presenter at a high speed, so we’re not sure if it makes it to the end of the episode. It’s also the only car that doesn’t undergo any visual modification during the episode.

The Evo 8 was launched in 2003 in Japan and saw immediate success thanks to its potent turbocharged 4G63 4-cylinder engine. This produced 289 lb ft and 276 horsepower, but its excellent all-wheel drive system pushed its performance high enough to battle with supercars of that era.

Its chassis was stiffer than the outgoing Evo7, and the car was treated like it was going to hit a rally stage at any moment with the chassis being spot welded, suspension mounts upgraded, and the suspension itself having an improved MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension setup.

The new bodywork also allowed for better cooling and higher performance aerodynamics.

James crashed this at such a high speed, I’d be surprised if this car isn’t written off during the show, which would be very sad.

It also gets submerged in water, so…

TCR World Tour gains FIA recognition for 2024, calendar to feature nine rounds

Following a one-year hiatus, world-level touring car racing returns to the line-up of FIA motor sport series. Resulting from an agreement between the FIA, the governing body of world motor sport, and WSC Group, the global rights holder for the TCR trademark, the TCR World Tour has been elevated to status of an FIA competition ahead of its second season of existence.

The TCR World Tour concept was introduced in 2023, consisting of nine rounds around the world, and with the competitors joining the grid of existing national- or regional-level touring car series running TCR-spec cars. From 2024, the series will be known as Kumho FIA TCR World Tour, with the agreement covering a three-year period. Race formats and durations will vary, adapting to the regulations of a given series which hosts the round of the World Tour. The competition will utilise Kumho tyres, which are in use in the majority of TCR series around the world. NINE ROUNDS AND SIX CONTINENTS IN STORE The inaugural Kumho FIA TCR World Tour will feature nine events, with the geographical reach of the series set to increase from four to six continents as the competition gained FIA recognition, and with Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America all represented on the 2024 schedule. The nine-round schedule will be followed by the FIA TCR World Ranking Final, with the date and venue of that competition to be announced in due course. Marek Nawarecki ,  FIA Senior Circuit Sport Director , said: “ Being present on six different continents is a great start as we are set for the return of world-level FIA touring car racing. The format that Kumho FIA TCR World Tour will rely on next year is something that will help to build bridges between national- and regional-level touring car series and the pinnacle of touring car racing, creating a healthy ecosystem for this form of racing.   The FIA will bring its regulatory framework to TCR World Tour, overseeing Sporting and Technical Regulations and their application, which is essential given that events of different local series on the calendar have their respective differences.” Alan Gow, FIA Touring Car Commission President , said:  “Over the years, world touring car racing has been undergoing constant evolution, with different technical regulations and formats utilised, and with FIA titles decided either through a series or at a single event. Given that TCR is a proven set of technical regulations with a strong customer racing platform, the concept behind the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour is something that made a lot of sense for the FIA to support it, and we look forward to its success.” Marcello Lotti ,  WSC President , said:  “We are immensely proud that, after only one racing season, the concept of the Kumho TCR World Tour has already met with general approval from the motor sport community. 2023 has been successful thanks to the trust and support of the promoters of several national and regional TCR championships, the manufacturers, teams and drivers. To now be able to award an FIA title is the icing on the cake and provides us with powerful motivation to do our utmost to make this platform even stronger and more popular. Which is why our first efforts have been to focus on putting together an ambitious and attractive calendar for the next season. A string of nine events that makes the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour the first ever international series for touring cars to visit six continents.” Recent history of FIA world touring car racing includes WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup, which ran TCR specification cars from 2018 to 2022, and the FIA World Touring Car Championship, which existed from 2005 to 2017, using S2000 and later TC1 technical regulations. Prior to that, the FIA’s top touring car competitions were often held as one-off events gathering the best drivers from various national touring car series.

Mustang Unleashed Tour is like a SEMA show just for the pony car

Ford's description of the Mustang Unleashed tour reads like a SEMA devoted exclusively to the pony car. It's just the kind of present an industry icon — one with perhaps the greatest aftermarket in the world — deserves for its 60th anniversary year. Even better, the present's being shared with Mustang owners and the public. A "festival-like atmosphere" at 12 stops throughout the year will include static walkarounds, customizing and tuning ideas in the Mustang Garage, demos of the Mustang's Remote Rev system and the burnout-producing line lock, and hot-lap ridealongs with professional drivers.

Six locations have been announced so far, three in April, two in May, one in June. Six more will be announced later. The initial schedule is: 

• April 12-13: Formula Drift, Long Beach, California
• April 21: Fabulous Fords, Irwindale, California
• April 26-28: Psych Fest, Austin, Texas
• May 10-11: Formula Drift, Braselton, Georgia
• May 17-19: HyperFest, Alton, Virginia
• June 7-9: Backwoods, Ozark, Arkansas

Looks like the automaker's not sticking to the usual Mustang-focused crowd with this tour; the automaker's out to expand the Mustang user base with some of these dates. Austin Psych Fest is "a three-day lineup of psych rock, dream pop, and indie rock and under the stars and oak trees in the backyard at The Far Out Lounge." Backwoods is also all about the music, an EDM festival sure to have crowd of Mustangs in the grassy lots (this one's gonna be the wild joker in the bunch). One of the dates later in the year will be at ComplexCon in Las Vegas, which organizer Complex magazine calls the " Super Bowl of culture." 

Not every location will offer every event; attendees are more likely to get hot laps at HyperFest, held at Virginia International Raceway, than in the fields at Backwoods.

Registration is open now for all owners of the 2024 Ford Mustang . It's necessary to enter a VIN before getting access to purchase a ticket, so we're not sure about the entry fee. Non-'Stang drivers or owners of earlier model years are on standby — apparently they have to show up to the event gates and hope there are tickets left.

The Opium crew may have canceled their Antagonist Tour , but that isn’t stopping them from recalibrating their plans for 2024 and forging ahead. Ken Carson , who is five months removed from the release of his third studio album A Great Chaos , has announced his tour dates for 2024, kicking off in Orlando on July 8. Carson shared the pre-sale information on his social channels, with the tickets set for general sale on April 26 at 10 AM local time.
