Since the early 2010’s, Dubai has tourism has boomed, the city quickly becoming one of the most popular tourist destination in the world.

Every year, millions of travelers flock to Dubai to experience the city of luxury and excess , see its impressive skyscrapers and crazy tourist attractions .

Unfortunately, this means endless waiting lines at all the must-see attractions such as the Burj Khalifa or the famous Dubai Aquarium.

Luckily, I have 2 solutions that will help you save a lot of time during your 3-day trip to Dubai 😎.

The first solution to save (a lot of) time and money during your stay in Dubai, is to buy the Dubai Explorer Pass .

City Passes for other cities such as Rome , Barcelona or Seville are duration based (24h / 48h / 72h). The Dubai Pass however is valid for 30 days from its first activation, and the only thing you will need to choose when booking is the number of tourist attractions you would like to visit: 3, 4, 5 or 7 attractions .

So it’s up to you to decide how many activities you want to do before purchasing your pass.

The pass allows you to choose between 50 attractions. All the best things to do in Dubai during your 3-day visit are of course included!

Important note: When booking, you don’t have to specify the activities you want to do, only the number of activities (For example, you buy the “Dubai Pass – 5 activities” and choose the activities you will do later, after your purchase).

After ordering your Dubai Pass, you will receive a confirmation email with a voucher (to print or download on your smartphone). You will then need to show this voucher at the entrance of each attraction.

The great thing is that you don’t need to exchange this voucher for a “real ticket” , so you will save a lot of time!

After purchasing the Dubai Explorer Pass, you will also be given all the necessary information about the attractions and activities: Opening hours, directions …and if you need to reserve a time slot (like for the Burj Khalifa) or if you can go when you want (Aquaventure Park, Aquarium…).

Here is a brief summary of the most popular attractions included in the Dubai Explorer Pass :

  • Burj Khalifa : access to the observation deck on the 124th and 125th floors
  • Aquarium and underwater zoo
  • Ticket for the Hop On Hop Off Bus
  • Boat trip in the Marina or in Dubai Creek
  • Aquaventure Waterpark at the Atlantis Hotel
  • Desert Excursion with Barbecue
  • Motiongate Dubai
  • Legoland Dubai
  • IMG Worlds of Adventure.

2. Skip-the-line tickets for Dubai’s best tourist attractions

The second solution to save time during your trip is to buy skip-the-line tickets in advance for the attraction and activities you want to do during your 3 days in Dubai.

You will save not only time but also some money!

Yes, in Dubai, online tickets are often cheaper than the tickets sold directly at the ticket office.

The good news is that you can find skip-the-line tickets for all the best attractions in Dubai, such as the Burj Khalifa or the famous “La Perle” show.

I will now give you a list of all skip-the-line tickets and excursions that I will mention in this 3-day itinerary. For your convenience, you will also find these links throughout the article.

To see the prices and book, it’s very simple, you just have to click on the links below :

If you want to do other activities in Dubai , you should always book on this website (reliable and safe, selling only official tickets): book your tickets for Dubai attractions here.

If you already know your travel dates (or as soon as you will have them!) , you should really book your accommodation.

As Dubai is one of the most touristic cities in the world , the hotels offering the best value for money are often fully booked months in advance.

As a seasoned traveler, I can assure you that it’s always by planning as far in advance as possible that I’ve found the best hotels or apartments deals.

You agree that it would be a shame to somewhat ruin your stay in Dubai by ending up in a not-so-great hotel that costed you a fortune, right? 😅

So your best bet is to take 5 minutes now to have a look at  traveler’s favorite hotels in Dubai.

And if you like one of the hotels you find, book it!

It’s fast, it’s easy and most accommodation offer free cancellation. That’s the best way to protect yourself from the inconvenience of finding nothing but mediocre rooms at exorbitant prices.

Dubai in 3 days: the best itinerary

Let’s now see how to visit Dubai in 3 days.

For each day , I will give you a detailed itinerary with all the details you need for your visits, along with a map of Dubai. This will help you optimize your trip and enjoy a stress-free stay in Dubai !

I assume that you will be staying in Dubai for 3 full days and that you have purchased the Dubai Explorer Pass or Skip-the-Line tickets . This way you will be able to see as many places as possible during your 3 day stay!

If, after reading this article, you still have questions (or need help organizing your vacation), you can ask me in the comments section at the very end of this article.

So, what can you visit in Dubai in 3 days?

Day 1 – Old Dubai

Dubai itinerary day 1

Day 1 visits:

A. Deira district B. Bur Dubai C. Dubai Museum D. Dubai Frame E. Dubai Garden Glow

Your 3-day itinerary starts in Deira, one of the oldest districts of Dubai .

As it’s the most authentic and traditional part of the city , Deira district is very popular. You will for sure love strolling around and visiting its souks.

Here are the 3 souks of Deira:

  • The gold souk , with imposing, shiny gold jewelry (very impressive but maybe a bit difficult to wear in everyday life! 😅). But don’t worry, if you’re looking for something more discreet, you’ll find this too.
  • The Perfume Souk on Sikkat Al Khail Street. Even if you’re not a fan of perfumes, you can find very nice bottles there. They are perfect as travel souvenirs for friends or family (remember to have them well packed).
  • The Spice Souk , with countless spices: curry, chili pepper, saffron…

To make the most of your visit to Old Dubai , you should opt for a guided tour .

The best tour lasts 3 hours and allows you to discover Deira, the souks, as well as the Dubai Museum (also included in my itinerary). Your tour guide will tell you everything you need to know about old Dubai and the local lifestyle!

And if, during your 3-hour tour, you want to buy souvenirs, he can also help you bargain prices in the souks.

You need to book your guided tour of Old Dubai by clicking on the green button below:

*This guided tour of Deira and Bur Dubai includes everything from section A to C of this first day itinerary.

To get to Deira , take the metro to Al Ras station.

In Dubai, Friday is a holy day (like Sunday in Europe). Stores in Deira (but also in other parts of Dubai) are usually closed in the morning and reopen in the late afternoon. Don’t forget it when you organize your visits!

Good thing to know: Deira is also the best place in Dubai to change money.

Deira Gold Souk Dubai

Bur Dubai is the second neighborhood you should visit in Old Dubai.

It’s very easy to get there, from Deira : you just have to cross the river! Simply take an abra (small traditional boat) for 1 AED per person and reach Bur Dubai in a few minutes.

Once arrived, you can first visit the house of Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum . It is now a museum featuring photos and documents about the history of the city .

It’s not mandatory to visit, but the place is very pleasant for a short walk along the river.

Then you can go discover Bur Dubai district. Here are the best places to visit:

  • The Old Souk, to purchase souvenirs of all kinds: magnets, plushes, bags. Don’t hesitate to negotiate the prices!
  • Hindi Lane and Meena Bazaar: An Indian zone with beautiful fabrics and traditional Indian restaurants. You can eat cheap here.
  • Sheikh Mohamed Cultural Center: Every day, lunches are organized in a traditional house with an inhabitant of Dubai. You need to Click here to book it.
  • The Al-Seef Market : A nice place to take a walk while admiring the traditional houses architecture (replicas). You can find restaurants and stores in the area.

Another popular activity in Bur Dubai is to go on an evening boat ride on the Creek river.

It’s perfect to enjoy a good meal and discover old Dubai from another perspective! There are 2 versions of this boat trip (click on the orange links for more details):

  • A traditional boat trip + Buffet dinner + Demonstration of local folk dances
  • A luxury cruise with gourmet dinner .

A cruise is also included in the Dubai Explorer Pass .

Bur Dubaï Old Souk

If there is one museum you should visit during your 3-day stay in Dubai, it’s for sure the Dubai Museum!

And you won’t have to go far: it’s also located in Bur Dubai .

The museum traces the entire history of Dubai : you will learn more about the first tribes who lived there and see how the rapid growth during the 1960’s economic boom turned Dubai into a modern city.

Featuring many objects of the nomads daily life, weapons and reconstructions of everyday life scenes, it’s undoubtedly the best way to understand the evolution of the city .

The entrance fee is only 3 AED , pretty cheap considering the quality of the exhibitions.

*Please note that the museum is closed on Friday mornings.

Dubai Museum

During your 3-day itinerary in Dubai, you’ll probably want to explore the modern part of the city too!

And for that, there’s no better way than to head to Dubai’s brand new attraction: The Dubai Frame.

You are now immersed in a completely different world, far away from the atmosphere of Old Dubai.

You can climb to the top of this 150-meter high structure in the shape of a giant photo frame and enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the 2 completely different parts of Dubai : Old Dubai on one side and Downtown (Burj Khalifa) on the other.

And to make it a bit more sensational, (otherwise you wouldn’t be in Dubai), part of the floor is made of glass!

Even if this attraction has only recently opened, the Dubai Frame is already a huge success and visitors are flocking to see it.

To avoid queuing at the ticket office and get straight to the elevator that will take you to the top, you should buy your ticket online by clicking on the green button below:

* The Dubai Frame is not currently offered in the Dubai Explorer Pass, so don’t forget to buy your ticket with the link above!

To get to Dubai Frame from Old Dubai, you have 2 options:

  • Take the metro at Al Fahidi station and get off at Al Jafiliya station .
  • Take a taxi for the 5 km from the museum to Dubai Frame. It’s cheap and the taxi drops you off closer.

Dubai Frame

Once you’re back on solid ground, you’ll want to head to Dubai Garden Glow (your last visit of this 1st day).

This large park features hundreds of sculptures (most of them depicting animals) coming to life every evening during light shows with musical backgrounds.

The Dubai Garden Glow really appeals to young and old kids alike. Perfect for a family outing!

The ticket for Dubai Garden Glow costs 65 AED . It also includes entrance to the dinosaur park located nearby.

Some of the dinosaurs move and growl when you walk close to them, kids really love it!

You should first go to the Dinosaur Park before sunset and then visit Dubai Garden Glow after dark .

Dubai Garden glow is open from 4pm to 11pm.

In addition, you can also visit the following parks (see at the ticket office):

  • The Magic Park (30 AED) , where you can take funny pictures thanks to optical illusions
  • The Ice Park (45 AED) , that I don’t particularly recommend: it’s in my opinion too expensive for just seeing a few ice sculptures.

Dubai Garden Glow

Day 2: Sightseeing and activities in Dubai

Dubai itinerary day 2

Day 2 visits:

A. Etihad Museum B. Jumeirah Mosque C. La Meer D. Dubai Mall E. Dubai Fountain Show F. Burj Khalifa

To start the second day of your 3-day trip to Dubai, you will visit the Etihad Museum.

To get there, take the metro to the World Trade Center and then take a taxi.

Etihad Museum is the perfect place to learn more about the Declaration of Union and the creation of the United Arab Emirates in 1971.

This treaty was the basis of the country’s economic development!

Films, testimonies and interactive terminals will teach you everything about the history of the treaty and its founders, the 7 Sheikhs of the Emirates .

In my opinion, the Etihad Museum is a perfect complement to the Dubai Museum you visited on the previous day.

The entrance fee is 25 AED for about 1 hour visit.

Etihad Museum Dubai

Jumeirah Mosque, located about 10 minutes walk from the museum is one of the only mosque in Dubai that non-Muslims are allowed to visit.

To visit the Mosque, you must be accompanied by a guide . He will teach everything you need to know about Muslim traditions and the 5 pillars of Islam.

The tours take place every day (except Fridays) at 10am and 2pm. They last about 1h15 .

Please note that you can only enter the mosque with your legs and shoulders covered (this applies to both men and women). In addition, women must also cover their hair .

Jumeirah Mosque is located only 10 minutes on foot from the Etihad Museum and on the way to the next stop of this itinerary. So even if you don’t want to take the tour, you can at least admire its architecture as you walk by .

If you want to take the guided tour , you should rather visit the mosque first and then go to Etihad Museum, as the latter doesn’t open until 10am.

Since the mosque is only a 10-minute walk from the Etihad Museum, it doesn’t make much difference.

Jumeirah Mosque Dubai

To get from the mosque to “La Mer” waterfront promenade, you will only have to walk for 5 minutes.

In La Mer, you will find many restaurants and cafes with terraces . Perfect to have lunch by the sea!

And if you’re not hungry, you can still take a nice walk along the promenade or rent deck chairs and umbrellas . Farniente is also part of a successful vacation!

La Mer Dubai

You can’t spend 3 days in Dubai without going to the most visited shopping mall in the world: the Dubai Mall!

More than 1200 stores await you here: Luxury boutiques or international brands like H&M… There is something for everyone’s taste.

The hardest will probably be to find your way around this huge shopping center! Hopefully, you can download the Dubai Mall app or grab a map and find your favorite shops easily.

And if you’re not a fan of shopping, that’s not a problem either: there are also numerous cinemas, an ice rink, a go-kart track , arcade games and even a flight simulator!

While in Dubai Mall, you should also go to the aquarium and underwater zoo : Sharks, rays, and all kinds of fish from around the world can be seen here. There is also King Croc , the star of the aquarium and one of the largest living crocodiles in the world.

To avoid waiting in line to purchase your ticket and save money, you should buy your tickets online in advance .

There are 2 types of tickets for the aquarium, you simply need to click on the orange links to book the one you want.

  • The classic ticket aquarium + underwater zoo
  • A combined ticket Aquarium + Underwater + Burj Khalifa – Certainly the most interesting for you , as you will visit the Burj Khalifa at the end of the day. In terms of price, it’s really worth it!

This activity (aquarium and underwater zoo) is included in the Dubai Explorer Pass .

To get to Dubai Mall from La Mer , you should take a taxi (5 km ride). Unfortunately, there is no metro station near La Mer.

Dubai Mall

When night falls, exit the mall and head towards the fountains located outside.

The Dubai Fountain Show takes place every 30 minutes between 6pm and 11pm.

There are several version, with different music tracks, so don’t hesitate to watch a few shows if you are around for the evening!

Since the show is very touristy (honestly, I didn’t expect to see so many people!), it’s better to arrive a bit early to get a good spot by the water.

You can also admire the spectacle up close b y opting for an abra tour on the lake .

You need to book it by clicking the button below:

Another nice place to see the show are the 2 terraces of the Apple Store, in the Dubai Mall.

Dubai Fountains

After the fountain show, it will be time to go up the Burj Khalifa: it will probably be one of the most thrilling experience of your 3 day trip to Dubai!

You will for sure love to see the city of Dubai from the 124th floor of the world’s tallest skyscraper.

And if you want to climb even higher, that’s possible too!

The highest observation deck in the world is located in Dubai, at 555 meters on the 148th floor of the Burj Khalifa.

Just like in this itinerary, you should really go to the top of the Burj Khalifa at night, the view is a lot more impressive when the whole city is illuminated!

To visit the Burj Khalifa, you really need to buy your ticket in advance. You will save a lot of time and it’s cheaper than booking it on site.

Different tickets are available (click on the orange links for information and to book):

  • Ticket At The Top Burj Khalifa – Access to the 124th and 125th floors
  • Ticket VIP At The Top Sky – Access to 148th floor of Burj Khalifa + 124th and 125th floor + quick entry at security checkpoints and elevator
  • Ticket to the 124th floor + dinner at the Burj Club restaurant.

If you want to visit both the Aquarium and Burj Khalifa , you should buy this ticket:

The ticket to the Burj Khalifa is included in the Dubai Explorer Pass .

To get to the Burj Khalifa , go to the LG level of Dubai Mall and then follow the signs “At The Top Burj Khalifa “.

Day 3 in Dubai: The best places to visit (option 1)

For the last day of your 72-hour stay in Dubai, you can choose between 3 options depending on your interests.

Dubai itinerary day 3

Day 3 visits (option 1):

A. The Walk and The Beach B. Dubai Marina C. Mall of the Emirates D. Global Village or La Perle show

To start with, let’s head to “The Walk” , a nice waterfront promenade boarding “The Beach” public beach (Yes, people from the marketing where inspired when naming these places!) .

The Walk features many chic boutiques and restaurants and you can rent deckchairs or enjoy watersports at The Beach.

To reach The Walk and The Beach, simply take the subway to DAMAC station and then the tramway to Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) .

Jumeirah Beach Residence The beach

Let’s now go to Dubai Marina , about 15 minutes walk away.

There, you can take a walk around the harbor while admiring yachts and skyscrapers or go to Dubai Marina Mall.

And if you want, you can even take a cruise on a luxury yacht!

The great thing is that it’s not as expensive as you may think.

The best cruise allows you to discover Dubai from a new perspective for 2-3 hours and even pass by the famous Atlantis Hotel , known for its distinctive architecture. Lunch (barbecue) is even included.

Departures for this luxury yacht cruise take place several times a day, during the high season.

To book your luxury yacht cruise in Dubai , you need to click on the green button below:

This luxury cruise is also included in the Dubai Explorer Pass .

During your visit to Dubai Marina, you should also try one of Dubai’s best activities:the world’s highest urban zipline! A must-do during your 3-day stay in Dubai!

You will start from the rooftop of a building, at more than 170 meters high. While flying among skyscrapers and over the Marina, you will reach a top speed of 70 km/h . Adrenaline rush guaranteed!

And to share your feat with your friends, you will be happy to learn that photos and a video are included in the price.

To book your zip-line ride in Dubai and have an extraordinary experience, all you have to do is click on the following button:

If the ticket isn’t available, you can also check on this other website (click here).

Dubai Marina

After spending some time at the Marina, it’s now time to take the metro to the Mall of the Emirates .

This is one of the other major malls you should visit during your 3-day stay in Dubai.

The reason?

It’s world famous for its indoor ski slope!

When inside, you will really feel like you’re in a mountain resort (Except for the spectators looking at the “ski resort” through the glass windows!). It’s like being locked inside a snow globe! 😆.

You don’t need to bring your ski equipment, everything is provided .

So if you feel like skiing, you need to book your ticket for Ski Dubai by clicking here .

And if you don’t want to ski, that’s not a problem either. You will also find dozens of stores for every budget and several restaurants in the Mall of the Emirates.

A great thing to know if you’re spending 3 days in Dubai with your family : you can go to the children’s area located on the top floor of the Mall of Emirates. It features arcade games and a mini funfair .

Mall of the Emirates

For the evening, you will have 2 options :

1) Global Village

Global Village is a cultural theme park located outside the city.

There, you will find dozens of pavilions representing most countries of the world . China, Thailand , Japan, Iran, United States and more: there is a lot to see and it’s very well done!

At the Global Village, you can discover, taste and buy products (objects, clothes, food) from all over the world at hundreds of small kiosks.

As the place is huge, plan at least 3 hours to see all the pavilions and have some time to try the food stalls.

The Global Village is open daily from early November to early April , but only after 4pm (closed the rest of the year). The entrance fee is 15 AED .

Practical info and tips:

You should really visit the Global Village in the evening, when all buildings are fully lit.

On Mondays the entrance is reserved for families with children and for women.

From Mall of the Emirates , take bus 106 to get to Global Village . The round trip costs AED 20 and the bus ride takes 30 minutes .

2) “La Perle” Show

La Perle is clearly THE most popular show in Dubai!

Featuring world class artists and acrobats, La Perle is the show you don’t wanna miss during your 3-day trip to Dubai.

As there are only 2 shows per night, make sure to book your tickets in advance by clicking on the button below:

The closest metro station to the venue is Business Bay . Then it’s best to take a taxi for the remaining 4 km.

Global Village Dubai

The second option for your 3rd day in Dubai is to spend the day on the man-made island of Palm Jumeirah .

In the shape of a palm tree and visible from space, it’s where the famous Atlantis Hotel is located, together with the city’s largest water park: the Aquaventure Park .

With its slides and swimming pools, it’s the best place in Dubai to spend a great day with your family during your 3-day stay!

In addition to the water park, you can enjoy 2 more activities at the Atlantis hotel:

  • Swimming with the dolphins in Dolphin Bay. If you book this activity, you will get free access to Aquaventure Park on the same day.
  • Visit The Lost Chambers Aquarium to see rays, sharks and other fish. The aquarium is located on the first floor of the Atlantis Hotel.

Tickets for these attractions must be booked by clicking on the following links:

There is also a combo ticket: Aquaventure waterpark + The Lost Chambers. You need to buy it here:

* Aquaventure Waterpark is included in the Dubai Explorer Pass .

For the last night of your 3-day trip to Dubai, you should go to the spectacular “La Perle” show .

There are 2 performances per day, at 18:30 and 21:00 , so even if you spend the day at the water park, you will have enough time to go back to the hotel to get ready for the show!

La Perle needs to be booked here:

To get to the Atlantis Hotel and Aquaventure Park :

  • First, take the subway to DAMAC Properties station
  • Then take the tram to Palm Jumeirah station
  • Follow the signs to reach the monorail – 5 minutes on foot
  • Take the monorail – The round trip ticket costs 30 AED. There is a monorail every 15 minutes between 9h and 22h.

Atlantis The Palm Hotel Dubai

The last option for your 3rd day is to opt for an organized day trip to explore the surroundings of Dubai.

And the most popular day trip from Dubai is for sure the desert excursion!

The best tour in the desert includes:

  • Pickup at your hotel
  • A jeep tour in the dunes
  • Lunch or dinner at a desert camp (with belly dance performance and henna tattoos.)
  • S andboarding (snowboarding down the dunes)
  • A camel ride

This desert tour is actually so good that you will get a full refund if you don’t like the tour !

A day trip to the desert is also included in the Dubai Explorer Pass .

Instead going to the desert, you can also opt for another amazing day trip during your 3 days in Dubai : A full day in Abu Dhabi!

The capital of the United Arab Emirates is especially famous for its magnificent Grand Mosque and the Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi.

This 3-day itinerary is also ideal if you plan to discover Dubai with your kids.

Even if Dubai is quite big, the public transport network is really good , making it super convenient for families to move around the city. You can reach most destinations very easily by metro.

And for the other places to visit, you can always take a taxi . In Dubai, they are everywhere and very affordable.

Another great thing is that there is no risk of scam like in Thailand for example. In Dubai, every driver puts on the taximeter and will charge you the right price.

Here is the list of the best things to do in 72h in Dubai with your family:

  • Visit the Souks of Old Dubai, kids will love this colorful place and will enjoy buying a little souvenir from their trip to Dubai!
  • Dubai Garden Glow and the dinosaur park located nearby
  • Beaches (The Walk and The Beach / La Mer)
  • Aquarium and underwater zoo at the Dubai Mall
  • Dubai Fountains show
  • Visit the Burj Khalifa
  • Aquaventure Waterpark of the Atlantis Hotel
  • Global Village , a concentration of traditions from all over the world in one place

As you can see, most tourist attractions in Dubai are perfect for a family trip!

You can also modify the 4-day itinerary in Dubai I suggested above or add the following activities. They are ideal with kids!

  • Laguna Waterpark: Smaller than Atlantis Waterpark, it however features more activities for young children
  • Miracle Garden and its millions of flowers
  • Dubaï Creekside Park: one of the few places in the city with many large green spaces. Your kids can let off steam here!
  • IMG Worlds of Adventure: A huge indoor amusement park
  • Dubai Parks and Resorts and its 3 theme parks (cinema and cartoons, LEGO and Bollywood).
  • The Green Planet , to discover animals and plants of the rainforest.

This suggested itinerary really allows you to see as many must-see attractions as possible in 3 days.

However, you can totally personnalize it by modifying or adding activities!

So if you want to know more about the other places to visit in the city, you should read my guide: Dubai: The 30 Best Things to Do .

To help you visualize your daily itineraries during your 3 days in Dubai, I have created this map with all the places to visit day by day . You can view the legend of the map by clicking on the top left button, the one with a little arrow.

You can thus see the suggested itineraries for each day.

As always, you should book your plane tickets as early as possible to get the best prices.

My understanding from reading your blog that the Dubai Explorer Pass will give me a digital ticket on my smartphone and miss all waiting queues. That is straight up walk into the attraction or reserved time slot.

Is my understanding correct?

Vincent

Hello David,

Yes, that’s right. Once you have purchased your Dubai Explorer Pass, you will receive an email listing all the attractions and activities included. For each one it will indicate if you need to book a time slot in advance or if you can go at any time.

Enjoy your trip to Dubai!

9 of the best day trips from Dubai: culture, wildlife, and adventure

Jan 13, 2022 • 6 min read

UAE, Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Mosque, arches

From cultural sites to incredible outdoor adventures, here are the best day trips from Dubai © Walter Bibikow / Getty Images

If you've already tackled the best things to do in Dubai , how about exploring some of the neighboring emirates? You’ll find everything from mosques and museums to mountain bike trails and ziplines within day-trip distance.

Here are the best places to discover from  Dubai  in a day.

It takes just 90 minutes to get to Abu Dhabi from Dubai

With its onion-shaped domes and glowing white marble, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is a must-see. Located 90 minutes from Downtown Dubai, the mosque runs free tours that take place daily, except during Friday prayers. Over on Saadiyat Island, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is an essential stop for art and architecture aficionados . Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the building is as much of a draw as the 600 artworks on display.

How to get to Abu Dhabi from Dubai: A taxi costs around Dhs200 ($55) each way. You can also catch a public bus (route E100 or E101) for Dhs28 ($7) one way.

Mleiha is home to an important archaeological site

Located in Sharjah's central region, Mleiha is one of the most important archaeological sites in the United Arab Emirates . The Mleiha Archaeological Centre details the history of the region from the Paleolithic era and offers guided tours of the Bronze Age tombs and pre-Islamic forts. Feeling adventurous? Explore the wild beauty of the desert during a guided trek, a 4WD tour or a fat bike tour, or paraglide from one of Mleiha’s tallest peaks.

How to get to Mleiha from Dubai: Mleiha is 47 miles (75km) east of Dubai. You can rent a car, or check with the archaeological center in advance to see if return transport is available.

Hatta is perfect for outdoor adventure

Backed by the craggy Hajar Mountains, the picturesque Dubai exclave of Hatta is made for outdoor adventure. The Hatta Mountain Bike Trail Centre has 31 miles (50km) of graded single-track trails, and you can rent bikes from Adventure HQ . For walkers, a 5.5 mile (9km) trail sets off from near the camping area, continuing past Hatta Heritage Village to the artificial Hatta Dam. Here, you can rent kayaks and pedalos to cruise the turquoise waters.

How to get to Hatta from Dubai: You can rent a car to drive to Hatta, 84 miles (135km) southeast of Dubai, or take the E16 bus.

Sharjah is a cultural hub, packed with museums and galleries

Just 18 miles (30km) from Downtown Dubai, Sharjah city is known as the cultural capital of the UAE and for good reason, with more than 20 museums and galleries. Start at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization , which displays more than 5000 artifacts from the Muslim world, and then wander down to the Sharjah Heritage Museum for an insight into Emirati culture. A 10-minute stroll away, Sharjah Art Museum is a must for fans of contemporary Arab art.

How to get to Sharjah from Dubai: A taxi costs around Dhs90 ($24.50) each way. There are several public bus routes that go in that direction too (E303, E303A, E304, E306, E307 or E107A), which costs Dhs10 ($2.75).

A solo man carrying a backpack walks down a paved path. There are dense areas of palm trees either side of the path

Visit the Unesco World Heritage-listed oasis in Al Ain

Filled with more than 147,000 date palms, the Unesco World Heritage-listed Al Ain Oasis was once a vital stop on the caravan route crisscrossing the Arabian Peninsula. You can stroll the shaded walkways, see how the ancient falaj (irrigation) network carries water to the palms and visit the hi-tech eco-center. Stop by Al Ain Palace Museum , where Sheikh Zayed once held court, and the photogenic Al Jahili Fort , built in 1891 to defend the city’s precious plantations.

How to get to Al Ain from Dubai: Al Ain is located in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, around 95 miles (150km) southeast of Dubai. Public bus E201 runs between Dubai and Al Ain's bus station and takes 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Kalba is the perfect day trip for wildlife watching

This east coast exclave of Sharjah is a great place to see some of Arabia’s elusive wildlife. Keen birdwatchers should bring their binoculars, as Khor Kalba’s mangroves are an important habitat for the beautiful white-collared kingfisher. On the outskirts of the city, Al Hefaiyah Mountain Conservation Centre is home to critically endangered Arabian leopard, Arabian wolf, tahr and desert lynx. At the nearby Kalba Bird of Prey Centre , free-flying demonstrations take place twice a day in the outdoor amphitheater (except Mondays).

How to get to Kalba from Dubai: Kalba is 80 miles (130km) east of Dubai, so rent a car to get there and around.

Take a road trip to Jebel Jais, the UAE's tallest peak

The starkly beautiful Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah is the UAE’s tallest peak at 6345ft (1934m). To enjoy the area’s craggy charms, take a scenic drive up the wickedly winding mountain road. There are rest stops along the route, and the viewing deck at 4100ft promises even more phenomenal views. If you're after an adrenaline rush in RAK, you can launch from the Jebel Jais Flight Zip Line , the world's longest, which reaches speeds of up to 95mph (150km/h). You could also tackle the half-mile-long Jebel Jais Via Ferrata , a four-hour experience that includes three thrilling ziplines of its own.

How to get to Jebel Jais from Dubai: You’ll need to rent a car to get to Jebel Jais, which is 100 miles (160km) northeast of Dubai.

Go diving or snorkeling in the waters near Fujairah

Stretching along the Gulf of Oman, Fujairah has better visibility and more diverse marine life than the waters off Dubai. Roughly 350ft (100m) offshore at Al Aqah, Snoopy Island is popular with snorkelers, thanks to schools of clownfish and regular turtle sightings. Local dive centers offer shore dives and boat trips to popular sites such as Dibba Rock, Coral Gardens and various wrecks.

How to get to Fujairah from Dubai: Al Aqah is 100 miles (165km) northeast of Dubai. Rent a car or check whether the dive centers include transport from Dubai in their packages.

Cruise the inlets of Oman's Musandam Peninsula

Dubbed "the Norway of Arabia," the Omani exclave of Musandam is famous for its fjord-like inlets and aquamarine waters. Numerous companies offer cruises aboard traditional wooden dhows, with dolphin sightings all but guaranteed. Tours typically include round-trip transport and a buffet lunch, with plenty of time for swimming and snorkeling. Boats depart from Dibba on the east coast or Khasab at the northern tip of the peninsula, with the latter offering more spectacular scenery.

This day trip from Dubai requires some advance planning. If you're planning to go to Dibba, know that you cannot enter the Omani side of Dibba (Dibba Al Baya) as an independent traveler. All people entering here need to have a free permit, which is provided by any of Dibba Al Baya's tour operators when you make a booking. The process is exceedingly easy for those on UAE tourist visas. When booking your activities, email a copy of your passport photo page and UAE entry stamp page to the tour operator; they will then organize the permit and meet you at the border with it in hand.

How to get to the Musandam Peninsula from Dubai: Dibba is less than two hours' drive from Dubai, while Khasab is three hours each way. Check Oman's visa requirements before you go.

8 Utterly Unmissable Day Trips From Dubai to Try in 2024

Whilst we love Dubai – obviously! – we also love to get beyond the highrises and shopping malls and highly recommend you add a few day trips – even overnight trips to your Dubai itinerary.

Dubai is very central in the United Arab Emirates in terms of its geographic position. Immediately to the west of Dubai, you have the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the largest of the 7 Emirates of the UAE with so much going on, we even have another site just about Abu Dhabi!

Then to the northeast and beyond, you have the other five Emirates, often referred to as the “ northern Emirates “, to explore.  It’s also possible to visit parts of Oman on a day trip – more on that below!

On this page, we share with you our favourite locations that can be easily reached within a day from Dubai but trust us, when you see how much there is to do, you will want to stay a bit a lot longer!

[ Distances are calculated from Downtown Dubai, and timing is subject to traffic ]

Please note: All COVID-19 rules in the UAE, including mask wearing in public, domestic border crossing points and the need to present the Al Hosn pass in certain emirates has now been abolished – more here.

1. Best Dubai Day Trip: Abu Dhabi

Dubai to Abu Dhabi distance: approximately 160km / 1 hour 15 mins

Dubai is often mistaken as the UAE’s capital , but, in fact, it is neighbouring Abu Dhabi that holds this crown. Home to the country’s Federal Supreme Council and President of the UAE, HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed al Nahyan, it’s also home to some of the country’s most magnificent architecture and cultural sites.

Qasr al Watan the Presidential Palace of the United Arab Emirates

So many stops that it is challenging to see them all on a Dubai day trip, but here are a few that we recommend you should try to fit into a single-day trip from Dubai:

  • Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: one of the most stunning buildings in the world, we have a detailed guide on exactly how to visit the Grand Mosque on a day trip from Dubai here . Entry is free for all, but be respectful of prayer times; closed on Fridays until 3:00 PM.
  • Qasr al Watan: The Presidential Palace: Home of the Federal Supreme Council and UAE Cabinet meetings, where foreign dignitaries are greeted and offices of the President, Vice President & Prime Minister, and the Crown Prince – a detailed guide here on what to expect inside.
  • Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi : Take on the Journey Through Humanity permanent display and many seasonal exhibits in one of the city’s finest modern buildings (closed Mondays) – a detailed visitors guide can be found here .
Top Tip : the Grand Mosque can be pretty packed from mid-morning as this is when most coach tours arrive from Dubai on day trips. If you want the Mosque to yourself, aiming for first thing in the morning (9:00 AM opening but you can arrive earlier) or mid-afternoon may prove much less crowded, this is the huge benefit of taking a private tour from Dubai to Abu Dhabi.

Recommended Day Tours to Abu Dhabi from Dubai

  • This best-selling day tour option from Dubai includes a full day trip to the Grand Mosque and the Presidential Palace, as well as the famed Etihad Towers observation deck as part of a shared coach group.
  • Short of time? This half-day Grand Mosque-only tour from Dubai includes just your shared coach transfers to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque with plenty of time to look around.
  • If you’d prefer to include the Louvre in your itinerary, we’d recommend this Abu Dhabi day tour from Dubai which includes the Grand Mosque and Louvre with English speaking guide.
  • For the best Abu Dhabi tour experience, we recommend taking a Private small group tour to Abu Dhabi from Dubai so your itinerary can be as flexible as possible.
  • Want to go it alone and save some cash? Check out this neat new service, the Cultural Express, that will take you to the door of the Louvre Abu Dhabi and Qasr Al Watan for FREE! The schedule lacks flexibility but it can be a great cost-saving (note, it doesn’t include a stop at the Grand Mosque).
If you are seeking to make your own way from Dubai to Abu Dhabi we suggest you read this detailed guide on all your transport options along with this detailed guide to the best Abu Dhabi attractions to plan out your own day trip or overnight trip to the capital.

2. Best Dubai Day Trip: Musandam Peninsula, Oman

Dubai to Khasab distance: 196km / approx 2.5 hours

Transporting you to a whole different country but within reasonable driving distance from Dubai, the “Norway of Arabia” awaits in the Omani exclave of Musandam . Sitting to the northeast of the northern Emirate Ras Al Khaimah, the regional capital of Khasab, Musandam can be easily reached by road – an incredibly picturesque and often breathtaking coastal drive.

From Khasab, there is a small harbour with a plentiful choice of traditional dhow boats and more modern cruising vessels. Sail out to the stunning rocky fjords where the Hajar Mountains that run through the length of Oman and the UAE dramatically end at the Strait of Hormuz.

Dolphin spotting is a favourite activity and in the warmer shoulder season, snorkelling and scuba diving are popular, albeit the better diving is on the eastern coast of the peninsula.

Dhow boat on the Musandam Peninsula

You will want an early start to fit in a full day of fun, and taking an organised day tour, they will help you with the Omani visas and border crossing process. It is possible to hire a car and do it all alone, but first-timers will no doubt appreciate a guide to take you through the Al Darah border crossing point and the formalities involved.

Recommended Day Tours from Dubai to Musandam

  • Try this full-day tour from Dubai to Musandam if you’d like assistance all the way with your journey with meet and greet border crossing, dolphin cruise, lunch & snorkelling gear all included.
  • If you want to make your own way to Khasab then join this half-day Dolphin Watching Dhow Cruise which includes just your boat tour, snorkeling kits, and snacks with an English-speaking guide.

Your drive to Musandam will also take you on a scenic tour through five of the seven Emirates ! You can see the changing landscapes as you exit the big cities and many interesting stops along the way, such as Al Rams and Dhayah Fort on the way through Ras al Khaimah (more on RAK below!)

Recommended Day Tours from Dubai to Dibba

If you do not want the formality of crossing the border, it’s also possible to take a dhow cruise to a different part of the Musandam coast, coming via Fujairah and the east coast of the UAE to an area known as Dibba.

Your boats here do not need to make a formal land crossing into Oman so no border crossing is required, but you will still be richly rewarded with dramatic coastal views.

  • Check out this full-day dhow cruise option from Dibba which includes transfers to Dubai and a full day out on the water with snorkelling and dolphin-spotting opportunities.

Musandam’s raw beauty and isolation are simply breathtaking and make this one of our top picks for nature lovers visiting Dubai.

Top Tip: You get a lot more visitors to Musandam over the local weekend which starts Friday afternoon through to Sunday night. If possible, time your trip for Monday through Thursday for fewer lines at the border.

3. Best Dubai Day Trip: Al Ain

Dubai to Al Ain distance: approximately 130km / 1 hour 30 mins

Sitting to the southwest of Dubai, you will find the Oasis City of Al Ain. With deep historic roots believed to date back to the neolithic period, this is our top-pick day trip for history lovers. You will find the UAE’s only UNESCO World Heritage sites scattered in several locations across the city – a full guide to these sites can be found here .

Much of the country’s more recent history also stems from the township of Al Ain, home town to the country’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al Nahyan , and the birthplace of the second ruler of Abu Dhabi and the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed al Nahyan .

Well-worth visiting spots include Al Jahili Fort, Qasr al Mawaji, Al Ain National Museum (as of 2019, closed indefinitely for renovations), and the Al Ain Palace Museum (the former Royal homestead).  You may also be fascinated by the supposedly healing hot springs of Al Mubazzarah, at the foot of Abu Dhabi Emirate’s tallest peak Jebel Hafeet.

Al AIn Oasis

Those travelling with kids will definitely want to try and squeeze in a trip to the Al Ain Zoo too. The best in the country, the zoo is set on large grounds with many new installations worth of a trip in themselves, including the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre, perfect for history lovers of all ages with lots of interactive displays.

Getting to Al Ain is straightforward by car [though note you are in Abu Dhabi emirate so prevailing domestic border rules will apply ].

You can make the trip to the historic centre in approximately 1.5 hours from Dubai. However, if you plan a trip up the winding road to the top of Jebel Hafeet, add another 40 minutes. You will be rewarded with spectacular views over Al Ain and neighbouring Oman.

Recommended day tours from Dubai to Al Ain

If you are unfamiliar with the UAE roads, joining an organised group to get between the highlights is recommended as the city is well spread out.

  • Try this full-day tour option taking in the city’s museums and nature highlights leaving from Dubai.
  • If you’d prefer the intimacy of a small private group with more local experiences thrown in, try this private tour to Al Ain with all transfers included and a flexible itinerary.

Al Ain also makes a great stopover point if you are undertaking a Visa Border Run to Oman. Plenty to fill a day but you could fit a lot more into two days as many of the city’s highlights are well spread out.

We have a detailed post here on how to plan your own trip to Al Ain here

4. Best Dubai Day Trip: Ras Al Khaimah

Dubai to Ras al Khaimah distance: approximately 110kms / 1 hour 15 minutes

Ras al Khaimah – affectionately referred to as RAK locally is best known as the UAE’s outdoor adventure playground. The stunning Hajar Mountain range runs through the Emirate and is home to the country’s tallest peak Jebel Jais.

Jebel Jais is an adrenaline junkie’s dream, with plenty of new attractions being added every year. The world’s longest zipline allows you to speed up to 150km/hr 1680m above sea level for nearly 3kms. You can also experience Via Ferrata and the newest additions, the Jebel Jais Sky Tour – 7 different courses over 5kms through the mountains (Closed Mondays and Tuesdays).

  • Experience one of the UAE’s most incredible nature spots Wadi Shawka with a desert tour thrown in including Camel Rock and Fossil Rock.
  • If you are seeking something a little more sedate, try this 5-hour private cultural highlights tour around the city of Ras Al Khaimah, including the Museum, Heritage Village, Fish Market, and ghost town (departs from locations in RAK).
  • Another favourite for a truly unique cultural experience is heading to the tiny village of Al Rams and taking a tour of the active pearl farm Al Suwaidi Pearls – learn about this treasured part of local culture and see a live pearl diving demonstration.

We do recommend for those on a one week+ Dubai itinerary spare a few nights of their trip for staying up in Ras Al Khaimah. There are plenty of luxury resorts that line the shores of RAK and man-made Marjan Island – see some top accommodation choices in RAK here.

5. Best Dubai Day Trip: Fujairah

Dubai to Fujairah Distance : approx 120kms / 1 hour 15 minutes to Fujairah city

Taking you all the way to the country’s east coast, facing the Gulf of Oman, you will find the Emirate of Fujairah. Steeped in history, it is where you will find some of the country’s most interesting landscapes, from the azure waters and soft sands of Al Aqah to the historic forts and the country’s oldest mosque.

Fujairah Fort - Day Trip from Dubai

Many like to visit the country’s east coast for its scuba diving and snorkelling opportunities or simply experience a completely contrasting side of the country to Dubai. You may also enjoy visiting some Sharjah exclaves Khorfakkan and Kalba, which also sit on the east coast, surrounded by the Emirate of Fujairah.

Recommended Day Tours to Fujairah from Dubai

  • Check out this diving tour to see the Dibba side of Fujairah from the water. All transportation, snorkelling gear and meals/drinks are included for a big day out on the east coast.
  • History and beaches in this Dubai to Fujairah day trip which includes a journey through the mountains, Fujairah Heritage Village, Fujairah Fort and the UAE’s oldest mosque.
  • Those interested in testing out their scuba diving skills in the UAE will love this day tour from Dubai to Fujairah which includes transfers, a certified instructor along with all your equipment and meals on board.

6. Best Dubai Day Trip: Yas Island Theme Parks

Dubai to Yas Island distance : approximately 115km / 1 hour

Arguably, the UAE’s best theme parks can be found on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island, only around 45 minutes from Dubai Marina or an hour from Downtown Dubai down the E11 Freeway, you can easily spend a whole day – or ideally two if you are going to enjoy everything on offer.

Ferrari World on Yas Island

The three big theme parks on Yas Island are:

  • Yas Waterworld (outdoor water park)
  • Ferrari World (indoor adrenaline and Italian-themed park)
  • Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi (indoor theme park based on DC Comic characters and Looney Toon favourites)

Stay tuned Yas as will soon also be welcoming a S ea World to this theme park trio.

Each is a top-rated attraction with plenty of thrill rides and entertainment and for large parts of the year, limited lines.

Recommended Day Tours from Dubai to Yas Island

  • See shared transfer options from Dubai to Yas Island
  • Buy Yas Waterworld Tickets online in advance here (no transfers included) – or if you are staying in Abu Dhabi, you can combine your hotel transfer and Yas Waterworld ticket .
  • When you purchase this day tour to Yas Island your Ferrari World Tickets are included, along with your transfers (this can work out cheaper than paying separately for your transfers and tickets).
  • Want some culture along with your thrills? Try this Abu Dhabi day tour which includes the Grand Mosque, a drive by Abu Dhabi’s many highlights then finish your day at Ferrari World, Yas Island.
  • If you love your motorsports, then perhaps a tour around the Yas Marina Circuit will be your thing, or even better the opportunity to drag your own Chevrolet Camaro around the track is your preferred experience.
  • CLYMB Abu Dhabi is also well worth checking out. It has the world’s largest indoor climbing wall, and the largest indoor skydiving centre. It can be found inside Yas Mall, immediately adjacent to Ferrari World.
Top Tip: Yas Island has a small Plaza of hotels and restaurants, as well as the lively Yas Marina area at night and the newly opened Yas Bay entertainment district. It is well worth an overnight trip at least to this adventure-filled island to experience everything on offer.

There’s a good guide here on how to make use of the Yas Island Theme Parks shuttle bus service from Dubai.

7. Best Dubai Day Trip: Hatta

Dubai to Hatta distance: approximately 105km / 1 hour 20 minutes

One of the most exciting newly-developed destinations in the Dubai emirate is the area of Hatta and Hatta Dam . Sitting to the south of Dubai near the Omani border, a large amount of tourism development has been poured into this rugged area of the Dubai Emirate to create a brand new nature playground.

3 day trip from dubai

There is so much on offer at this destination, especially for your outdoor enthusiasts; after exploring the heritage village, take on kayaking to mountain biking, and enjoy the adventure sports at Hatta Wadi Hub and the Hatta Jump water park.

For an unforgettable experience extend your stay to be overnight so you can experience one of the Hatta Sedr Trailers Resort . They are limited though so book well in advance, winter season only.

Recommended Day Tours from Dubai to Hatta

  • See this full-day tour from Dubai, which takes you through all the major highlights of Hatta with transfers included from your Dubai hotel.
  • This Hatta safari day tour provides not just a desert tour away from the city crowds but you’ll also stop at Hatta Dam and one of the more unique local attractions, the Hatta Honey Bee Garden
Top Tip: It gets much busier on the local weekend which is now Friday afternoon through Sunday. Visit mid-week and out of school holidays, it’s beautifully secluded (though do check attraction opening times mid week).

Find all your transport options between Dubai and Hatta here.

8. Best Dubai Day Trip: Dubai Desert

This is a classic suggestion for a Dubai day trip, we couldn’t leave it off a day tours round-up, even if you’re still in the Dubai emirate.

There are all sorts of desert day trips at all different times of the day to suit individual traveller needs. A “ classic desert safari ” will include an element of dune bashing, camel rides, sandboarding and henna painting, followed by a traditional Bedouin feast along with musical and dancing entertainment ( except Ramadan ).

3 day trip from dubai

If your focus is on camel riding, we suggest you check out this article on how to get your fill of camel experiences in Dubai – there are plenty of them!

Alternatively, if you’d like a more immersive experience, check out this guide to overnight desert camping experiences.

Recommended Day Tours to the Desert from Dubai

With so many desert safaris available these days, it can be hard to choose between them.

Some of them such as Platinum Heritage are premium tour providers. Their focus is on the desert itself and connecting with the environment. You will enjoy vintage Landrovers taking you sedately through the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve , falconry displays and traditional food, both day and evening tours are available.

Alternatively, some camps and day tours are set up very specifically with the needs of adrenaline junkies in mind. Your local driver will know his dunes back to front and find the most thrilling path into the camp, followed by options at your camp to hire dune buggies, fat bikes and sandboards to explore the dunes differently.

These are our top picks for Dubai desert day tours to try:

  • This Al Khayma Premium Red Dunes and Camel Safari tour is one of the most booked in Dubai for a reason – enjoy dune bashing, sandboarding, camel riding and camel feeding, with falconry and a traditional dinner. Always highly rated and deliver on customer service.
  • Early starter? This Morning desert safari with Camel Riding & Sandboarding (plus optional quad biking ) might be the best choice for you.
  • On a budget, one of the best value evening desert safari and BBQ options includes your pickups and dune bashing, with add-on activities possible.
  • See our complete guide here to tours focused on Dune Buggy and adrenaline experiences in the Dubai desert .

For an absolutely unique and unforgettable Dubai experience, we recommend you try hot air ballooning at dawn above the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve:

  • Try this sunrise balloon ride with breakfast and falconry show – including your transfers to and from central Dubai.
  • Or combine hot air ballooning with a camel trek & quad biking adventure an Arabic breakfast is included before transfers back to your Dubai hotel after an action-packed start to the day!

3 day trip from dubai

Whenever you are headed into the desert, we always recommend trainers are a more practical option than sandals or flip flops – they will, of course, fill with sand too but you’ll find it easier to walk about. Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat any time of year visiting Dubai – you can see our full Dubai desert checklist here!

W e always recommend visitors to Dubai to leave plenty of time to take in the highlights in the other Emirates as well.  Much of the natural beauty and culture of the country and region lies far beyond the city.

If you’d prefer to make your own way around the Emirates to experience some of these highlights, we recommend you head over to our guide to driving in Dubai . Understand more about driving conditions, car rental options and whether self-drive is the better option for you.

If you’re interested in hiring a driver for a set number of hours, try a service such as GetTransfer . Drivers can bid on your journey making it highly competitive and at a fixed price for all-day convenience, which you may not find with a group tour.

15 places to go for a long weekend from Dubai

By Nicola Chilton

Tbilisi Georgia

With Dubai’s strategic location and huge flight network, it’s only natural that heading out on a long weekend trip is de rigueur for its residents. Here are 15 of our favourite destinations within a four-hour flight from Dubai , from urban centres to dazzling desertscapes and relaxing seaside spots.

Alula Saudi Arabia

The tomb of Lihyan Son of Kuza in Alula, Saudi Arabia

1. AlUla, Saudi Arabia

With ancient stone-hewn tombs, otherworldly landscapes and an oasis of more than two million date palms, there’s much to love about Saudi Arabia 's AlUla. Less crowded than Petra, AlUla’s Nabataean tombs, including the tomb of Lihyan Son of Kuza, carved from one enormous solitary rock, are some of the most photogenic sites in the region. But there’s much to discover beyond them, like the Ashar Valley’s dazzling Maraya, the world’s largest mirrored building that reflects the red rock scenery from every angle, and the mountain of Jabal Ikmah, covered in thousands of inscriptions and pictographs, recently included in UNESCO’s Memory of the World register. Go in winter for restaurants that pop up around the area, as well as a full calendar of concerts, hot air balloon flights and more.

Jordan's charming capital Amman

Jordan's charming capital, Amman

2. Amman, Jordan

The Jordanian capital is the gateway to Petra and the Dead Sea, both of which can be visited on (fairly long) day trips from the city. But Amman has enough charm to easily fill a long weekend. Its city-centre archaeological sites, from the Citadel to the Roman Theatre, are easily accessible, but it’s also less than an hour by car to the well-preserved sprawling Roman ruins of Jerash. Amman is also a place to dedicate time to eating, from streetside falafel and foul to elegant restaurants and cafés. Head to Fakhreldin in the house of a former Prime Minister for nostalgic Levantine flavours, or to Sufra on Rainbow Street for hearty home-style Jordanian dishes. If you want to learn how to cook these flavours for yourself, Beit Sitti is a friendly cooking school run by three sisters and their mother using recipes handed down through the family for generations.

Pearl Roundabout Manama Bahrain

Pearl Roundabout in Bahrain's understated capital, Manama

Understated Bahrain doesn’t receive the same attention as many of its Gulf neighbours, but there’s plenty to do on a long weekend. This is a destination with a rich history, from restored merchant houses to forts, Dilmun burial mounds, and the UNESCO World Heritage certified Bahrain Pearling Path, a 3.5-kilometre trail leading from the seashore to the heart of Muharraq.  It’s also well served by luxury resorts, including outposts of Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton and Jumeirah, for those looking for an easy and relaxed family getaway.

In Lebanon's capital Beirut city and beach go sidebyside

In Lebanon's capital Beirut, city and beach go side-by-side

4. Beirut, Lebanon

In spite of all of its troubles, Beirut consistently proves itself to be an irresistible getaway destination from Dubai, and it’s not hard to see why. With exceptional dining, nightlife and a good variety of accommodation options, from heritage brands to boutique hotels, it’s a perennial crowd-pleaser. The Sursock Museum has reopened after sustaining considerable damage in the 2020 port explosion, and the Gemmayze and Mar Mikhael neighbourhoods are as energetic as they’ve ever been. Don’t miss Beit Kanz, a flower-filled cultural hub and restaurant in a restored historical landmark building that celebrates Lebanon’s creative community, craft heritage and culinary art.

Autumnal colours make for striking scenes in Bishkek's Oak Park

Autumnal colours make for striking scenes in Bishkek's Oak Park

5. Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

The Kyrgyz capital is a leafy, park-filled place flanked by snow-capped mountains and the easily accessible Ala-Archa Canyon for spectacular day hikes. Many visitors skip the city and head straight for Kyrgyzstan’s breathtaking interior landscapes, but there are many reasons to spend a few days here. Lunch next to the fountain at Frunze on the edge of Oak Park is a delight, with creative dishes built around local seasonal ingredients. The walking tours by Bishkek Walks are a great way to explore the city’s Soviet-era statues and neo-classical buildings, and you can pick up felt slippers, traditional Kalpak hats and watermelons sold out of car boots at the sprawling Osh Bazaar.

The Pyramids of Giza loom over Egypt's capital Cairo

The Pyramids of Giza loom over Egypt's capital, Cairo

6. Cairo, Egypt

The long-awaited Grand Egyptian Museum is supposed to be opening this year after many delays. But even if it doesn’t, there are still plenty of reasons to head to the Egyptian capital. If you’ve already seen the Pyramids of Giza, head out to the extraordinary stepped pyramid at nearby Saqqara and the Bent Pyramid at Dahshur. Many visitors to Cairo look at the Nile rather than getting out on it, but you can hop on a water taxi (and avoid Cairo’s notorious traffic) to see the city from the water, or even SUP on the river.

Lac Abbe Djibouti

The otherworldly limestone chimneys of Lac Abbé, Djibouti

7. Djibouti

Djibouti’s scenery is dazzling, ranging from the otherworldly limestone chimneys of Lac Abbé, a body of water that bubbles with sulphurous hot springs and plumes of steam, to the salt-encrusted Lac Assal, the lowest place on the African continent. There are also volcanic landscapes, deserts, mountains and a tiny forest filled with surprising biodiversity, all squeezed into this tiny country. But as alluring as the inland sights are, don’t miss diving into the sea off Djibouti, one of the best places in the world to swim with whale sharks. For the best chances of a sighting, visit between November and January. The Djibouti Palace Kempinski is a reliable hotel choice in the capital, and can arrange tours and activities around the country.

The futuristic skyline of Doha Qatar

The futuristic skyline of Doha, Qatar

8. Doha, Qatar

For an art-filled break, hop on the one-hour flight to Doha . The Qatari capital’s museums are famed for showcasing exhibitions by big-name global artists such as Jeff Koons and Yayoi Kusama, but the city’s collection of public art is equally interesting as what’s kept indoors. Stay at The Ned, housed in the beautifully brutalist former Ministry of Interior building, and you’ll have access to the hotel’s own art collection showcasing the works of Qatari artists. If you’re hungry for more, rent a car and head out into the desert to track down two of the most exciting works of all - Richard Serra’s East-West/West-East monolithic 14-metre-high steel plates, and the mirrored rings that make up Olafur Eliasson’s Shadows Travelling on the Sea of the Day.

The stunning Hawa Mahal Palace in Jaipur

The stunning Hawa Mahal Palace in Jaipur

9. Jaipur, India

The capital of Rajasthan is a dizzying place with an irresistible spirit that pulls you in and spins you around. It’s a riot of bustling markets, dazzling colours and exquisite architecture, including the famous facade of Hawa Mahal ‘Palace of the Winds’, the colourful peacock doors of the City Palace, and the honey-hued Amber Fort, a 30-minute drive outside the city. Jaipur is also home to some spectacular hotels , like the Rajmahal Palace and the Villa Palladio, which embraces maximalism at its Instagrammable best. For something a little more understated right in the heart of the Lal Haveli jeweller’s bazaar, head to The Johri, a restored 19 th century home with calming interiors and an excellent restaurant. The truffle cheese kulcha and the chaat selections will have you planning your next trip before you’ve even finished dinner.

New Chorniche Jeddah

Jeddah's quaint Corniche

10. Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Jeddah is different. So says the city’s motto, and it’s true. Long the gateway to Makkah for pilgrims arriving by sea, Jeddah has a cosmopolitan population whose different cultural backgrounds are reflected in the fantastic food that’s waiting to be discovered here, from ma’soub to murtabak to foul . A major restoration programme is underway in Al Balad, Jeddah’s UNESCO World Heritage certified historical district, with new life being breathed into handsome centuries-old homes. It’s a beautiful place to wander, and you’ll soon be able to stay there, too – a new hotel, spread across three of the buildings, is set to open before the end of the year.

The Maldives is a four-hour flight from Dubai

11. Maldives

A direct flight from Dubai to Male is just over four hours and for a long weekend, the Maldives resorts located within a speedboat ride of the airport are the easiest options to make the most of your time. If travelling with friends, One&Only Reethi Rah’s Grand Beach Villa sleeps up to six and has its own pool right on the beach. The dhoni-shaped overwater villas at Como Cocoa Island have long been a favourite of couples, and the extensive wellness facilities here offer holistic programming and healthy cuisine. Kurumba, only ten minutes from the airport, was a pioneer in Maldivian tourism when it opened in 1972, and is still going strong. A more affordable family-friendly resort, Kurumba places a focus on connecting guests with local communities through music, entertainment and traditional experiences.

Mumbai's colourful Sassoon Docks

Mumbai's colourful Sassoon Docks

12. Mumbai, India

Crowded, noisy and occasionally overwhelming, Mumbai is one of India’s most exciting cities, filled with an intoxicating energy. This is a city to dive straight into, from its flower markets to the sights and smells of the Sassoon Docks, excellent street food, restaurants and buzzing late-night bars. It’s also a place to plan some serious shopping. Head to the Tarun Tahiliani and Sabyasachi stores for elegant – and extravagant – designer Indian attire, to Good Earth for lovely homeware, or dive into Mangaldas Market for a kaleidoscopic selection of fabrics, from silks to sarees to printed cotton. At the end of the day, rest your head in pure luxury at the iconic Taj Mahal Palace, or surrounded by retro charm at Abode Bombay.

The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat

The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat

13. Muscat, Oman

A short hop by plane over the Hajar Mountains or an easy road trip from Dubai, the Omani capital is an ideal target for a long weekend. With resorts scattered along the coastline, including the new Jumeirah and the long-time favourite Chedi, it's not short of comfortable places to stay. While it's easy to spend the whole time in cosseted luxury, venture out and there’s plenty to do in and around the city, from the unmissable Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque to the frankincense-laden stalls of Mutrah souq. Muscat is also the gateway to mountaintop Jabal Akhdar for cooler summer climes.

Samarkand's Ulugh Beg Madrasa is one of the city's biggest draws

Samarkand's Ulugh Beg Madrasa is one of the city's biggest draws

14. Samarkand, Uzbekistan

Samarkand is as marvellous as its name suggests. This Uzbekistan city on the Silk Road is home to mosaic-covered madrassas, mausoleums and mosques. The detail is dazzling, particularly when set against Samarkand’s clear blue autumn skies. Samarkand’s big draw is the spectacular Registan, a square flanked by three centuries-old madrassas. Timur’s mausoleum, the Gur-e-Amir, is another must visit, but don’t miss hidden gem Aksaray Mausoleum just behind it for beautiful interiors that shimmer in gold and turquoise. Shopping here is also a treat, from silk ikats woven in the Fergana Valley to suzani fabrics, piles of nuts and dried fruits, and huge wheels of bread. Stay at the Bibikhanum Hotel, right next to the turquoise dome of the 15 th century Bibi-Khanym Mosque, to be in the centre of everything.

Georgia's picturesque capital Tbilisi

Georgia's picturesque capital, Tbilisi

15. Tbilisi, Georgia

Tbilisi is a real crowd-pleaser, compact enough to explore by foot and varied enough to ensure you discover something new around every corner. Many come here for the food alone, from gooey, cheesy khachapuri to steaming khinkali dumplings and pkhali puréed vegetables, rich with flavours of garlic, crushed walnuts and pomegranate seeds. The Dry Bridge flea market is the place to pick up antique crystal glasses, tea sets and Soviet-era memorabilia, and fans of brutalist architecture will have plenty to photograph as they wander the streets. Go straight to the source at Stamba, a book-filled, stylishly modernist hotel in a former printing house, where staff uniforms look straight out of The Grand Budapest Hotel , and Tbilisi’s bold and beautiful gather to drink coffee in the garden.

3 Days in Dubai: Travel Tips & Important Info

Planning is key to make any trip successful. Take time to research and zero in on accommodation, sightseeing tours, and dining, among other elements of your Dubai trip. Check to see if advance reservations are required for anything you’d like to do and make sure to pre-book them before your arrival in Dubai.

Make sure to have all necessary travel documents in place. Check with your country’s State Department to see if you’ll need a visa to visit the United Arab Emirates. US Citizens visiting the UAE for one month or less are eligible for a tourist visa upon arrival. If you don’t qualify for a visa upon arrival, you can work with a reputable visa service company like CIBT Visas to get everything completed before your trip. OK to Board (OTB) is another staple for your Dubai visit, especially if you are traveling from an Asian destination.

Knowing the local rules and etiquette in Dubai is essential. Doing a bit of research beforehand can help to avoid potentially embarrassing situations or even rescue yourself from being fined or even imprisoned. Here are a few rules to remember when visiting Dubai:

  • Wear modest clothing, avoid PDA, and be sure to ask permission before taking photos of the region’s significant government structures or local Emiratis.
  • Avoid smoking in public places.
  • Don’t eat and drink in public during the holy month of Ramadan.

To get around the city, you can rely on its public transportation, mainly the state-of-the-art Dubai Metro . With limited time to spend in Dubai, you can also opt for a guided city tour that includes transportation.

The sail-shaped Burj Al Arab in Dubai

3 Days in Dubai, Day 1: Sightseeing Tour & Downtown Dubai

Day 1, morning: dubai sightseeing.

On your first morning in Dubai, start off your trip with a guided sightseeing tour. Opt for the Big Bus Tour that will take you around all of Dubai’s top sights, or choose a city tour arranged by an experienced tour guide.

Most Dubai city tours will take you around some of the city’s top sights, including:

Al Bastakiya Quarter: Officially called Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, this preserved 19 th century quarter is where you can step back in time. If time permits, check out the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (don’t miss the Emirati Breakfast Cultural Experience ).

The neighborhood of Al Fahidi, also known as Old Dubai

Dubai Museum: Located in the Al Fahidi area, a visit to the Dubai Museum is included in most city tours. The museum boasts an incredible of art and artifacts that will give you an authentic slice of Dubai’s past. The best part? It’s located inside Al Fahidi Fort – the region’s oldest fort.

Deira’s Souks: Souks are traditional bazaars where you will find unique and authentic Dubai souvenirs. One of the most popular souks in the city is undeniably the Gold Souk . Take an abra ride (a traditional wooden boat) from Bur Dubai to reach here. It costs only 1 AED, so don’t miss it.

Palm Jumeirah: A drive around Palm Jumeirah is one of the highlights of any Dubai city tour. This Dubai attraction literally needs no intro, thanks to its epic design that resembles a colossal palm tree crowned by a crescent.

Burj Al Arab: This sail-shaped structure is so iconic that it is unimaginable to leave Dubai without a photo of it. After all, it’s one of the most luxurious and expensive hotels in the world. A stay here might not be within your travel budget, but consider splurging on Afternoon Tea at Sahn Eddar . This is a pricey experience, but it’s much cheaper than spending a night here.

Jumeirah Mosque: This mosque stands out for its classic Fatimid architecture. It is one of the few religious points of interest in Dubai open to all, including non-Muslims.

The outside of Jumeirah Mosque in Dubai

Day 1, Afternoon: Check out the Dubai Mall

After your Dubai city tour, spend the rest of the day in downtown Dubai, probably the most stylish and modern neighborhood in Dubai.

One of Downtown Dubai’s centerpiece attractions is the Dubai Mall, a shopaholic’s paradise with more than 1200 stores. It’s a foodie’s favorite too, thanks to its 200+ dining options.

And did we say that this gigantic mall is an absolute leisure and entertainment destination? There are many things to see and do here other than shopping and dining, including the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo , Dubai Ice Rink , Ekart Zabeel , Hysteria Dubai Mall (the city’s first haunted attraction), and VR Park Dubai, the world’s largest VR park.

Day 1, Evening: Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain Show

After you have had your fill of shopping and entertainment, you can go straight to Burj Khalifa’s observation deck.

At a jaw-dropping height of 828 meters, the Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest man-made building. There are two different observation decks, one on the 124th level and one on the 148th level. Opt to visit one or both of the decks; no matter which one you choose, you can’t go wrong.

The Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world

Enter the Burj Khalifa via the Dubai Mall. Before you board the elevator, you’ll see an interesting presentation on Dubai’s journey from an ordinary fishing village to an extraordinary hub of astonishing sights and attractions. Once you arrive at the observation deck, look around for the most breathtaking 360-degree views of Dubai’s skyline, desert, ocean, and beyond. If you have enough time, make sure to take in the sunset view.

Next, head out of the Burj Khalifa and find a spot to admire the stunning Dubai Fountain show, set at Burj Lake just outside of the Dubai Mall. This choreographed aquatic performance in perfect harmony of light and music is so magnificent that it’s hard to miss. Looking for the perfect spot to see the show? Go on an abra ride along Burj Lake, hit the Dubai Fountain Boardwalk, or choose to dine at a restaurant that overlooks the show.

Day 2 in Dubai: Visit a Theme Park & Spend the Evening at Palm Fountain

Morning: pay a visit to one of dubai’s theme parks.

You can’t visit Dubai without checking out one of its theme parks. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or just looking for some more relaxing fun, Dubai’s theme parks cater to every desire. Depending on your preferences, take your pick from one of these:

IMG Worlds of Adventure: This is the world’s largest indoor theme park, so you can imagine the loads of thrilling rides and amusing attractions that await you. The park has four distinct zones: Marvel, Cartoon Network, dinosaur-inspired Lost Valley, and IMG Boulevard.  Purchase tickets to IMG Worlds of Adventure here.

Dubai Parks and Resorts: Want to hop from one theme park to another in a few hours? This is the place to go. Dubai Parks and Resorts is the region’s first integrated resort where you’ll find multiple accommodations, a dedicated retail/dining section, and of course, four different theme parks: MOTIONGATE Dubai , Bollywood Parks Dubai , LEGOLAND Dubai , and LEGOLAND Water Park. Whether you want to visit multiple parks or just one, there are packages (like this two park pass ) to help you get the most out of your visit.

Ski Dubai: A favorite hangout among locals, Ski Dubai is a snow-themed park and is one of the coolest places in the city. Here, you can enjoy snow activities in a setting that is nothing short of a winter wonderland. Come here prepared to ski, snowboard, sled – even when the outside temperature is around 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Evening: The View at the Palm Jumeirah & Palm Fountain Show

For an incredible end to your action-packed day, head to The Pointe at Palm Jumeirah to watch the Palm Fountain show! One of Dubai’s newest attractions, the Palm Fountain show is a scaled-up version of the Dubai Fountain Show. The Palm Fountain is the world’s largest musical fountain, and is the region’s only fountain show with colored lights.

Adjacent to the Pointe is the Palm Tower, which is home to another new Dubai landmark – the View at the Palm Jumeirah. Here, you can get full panoramic views of the famous Palm Jumeirah from a 240-meter high observation deck. This is the perfect spot to end an evening on one of your three days in Dubai.

Day 3 in Dubai: Morning Desert Safari and a Dhow Cruise

The last day of your 3-day Dubai trip revolves around adventure, nature, and culture. Start the day off with a morning desert safari. With transfers included in most tours, a desert safari in Dubai takes you to one of Dubai’s most pristine areas that remains unscathed by development. Experience the desert with exciting activities like 4×4 dune bashing, a camel ride, sand boarding, and quad biking.

After your desert safari, spend the afternoon doing some souvenir shopping, or visit a few more famous Dubai landmarks like the Dubai Frame or The Green Planet , Dubai’s indoor rainforest.

In the evening, plan on taking a dhow cruise , one of the most quintessential Dubai experiences. This laid-back cruise aboard a wooden Arabian sailing vessel presents you with a distinct viewpoint to appreciate Dubai’s cityscape from the water. Most cruises include dinner as well as traditional entertainment like Tanoura dancing. An evening dhow cruise is the perfect way to conclude your three days of exploring Dubai.

15 Best Day Trips from Dubai

Dubai is among the seven emirates that come together to form the UAE. The city is welcoming and gives tourists a chance to connect with a wide range of experiences. This independent city-state is filled with magnificent, world-class tourist destinations. Most visitors come here to shop and discover the wide array of ancient and modern sites.

The city’s energy is quite fascinating; during the day, shoppers throng the various malls, while at night, tourists are completely spoilt for choice thanks to the party spectrum that caters to all ages. However, even the most dedicated city slickers need a break from the bustling city center every once in a while. If you are looking for ideas for perfect day trips from Dubai, check out our list of 15 destinations that are worth exploring.

1. Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is UAE’s capital. It’s also the largest of the seven emirates of the UAE. This city is located along the Persian Gulf on an island that has a T-shape.

Abu Dhabi is located about 90 minutes from downtown Dubai. It is a wonderful mix of classic and modern Arab architecture.

The newly opened Louvre is a highlight for anyone visiting Abu Dhabi. This cultural spot is totally beautiful and houses impressive pieces of art. Louvre is located on Saadiyat Island.

If you have some time left, you can squeeze in a trip to the Emirates Palace and the Etihad Towers. These not only offer stunning city views but are also great photo opportunities.

2. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

This mosque is located about 132 kilometers from Dubai. It is the largest mosque in the country and one of the world’s most visually stunning landmarks. Built in honor of the country’s first president, it is also here that he was laid to rest. The mosque was built between 1996 and 2007 – the actual building covers an area of 12 hectares.

This mosque incorporates 82 domes and is decked out with lavish helpings of marble, ceramic-work, and gold. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque has seven absolutely gorgeous crystal chandeliers and is home to the world’s largest carpet; this was woven by 1,200 carpet weavers.

The mosque’s decorations are a combination of Fatimid, Mamluk, and Ottoman styles; all these are symbols of the periods when the Arabic empires ruled.

If you’re non-Muslim, you don’t need to worry; you can also enter to admire the stunning architecture; however, women should be dressed in the right attire.

3. Musandam Peninsula

Musandam Peninsula

This peninsula is located 194 kilometers from Dubai. On this day trip to the “Norway of Arabia,” you should not forget your passport because this destination is in fact in a different country.

The Musandam Peninsula is the regional capital of Khasab, a small fishing village that has utterly stunning views. This peninsula provides a peaceful antidote to the city’s buzz. Musandam’s raw beauty comprises of incredibly steep mountains that plunge into the waters, resembling the Norwegian fiords.

To explore the Musandam Peninsula thoroughly, you need to take a cruise from Khasab. Expect to spot some dolphins on your ride.

Suggested tour : Musandam Dibba Full-Day Cruise with Lunch

4. Al Fujairah

Fujairah Fort

Fujairah is another one of the seven emirates that make up the UAE and is located approximately 167 kilometers from Dubai. This Emirate became independent in the year 1952 and is the youngest of all the Emirates; its capital is Fujairah City.

If you’re looking for a day trip that combines nature with history lessons, the Al Fujairah is the perfect destination just for that.

Just outside the capital, there is the Fujairah Fort, which functioned as a military post in the 16th Century. Nearby, there is the reconstructed Fujairah Heritage Village, which shows how the locals lived in the past.

5. Palm Islands

Palm Islands

The artificial Palm Islands comprise of the Jumeirah, Jebel Ali, and the Deira. Their creation started in the year 2001 at the request of UAE’s prime minister. A decade later, only Palm Jumeirah was completely created. Jumeirah Island is connected to the mainland using a monorail.

The Palm Islands resemble a palm tree that is topped by a crescent-shaped island. These man-made islands were created by the process of land reclamation and have added about 520km of beaches to the city.

These offshore islands are Dubai’s most unique and boldest megaprojects. They are often referred to as the 8th wonder of the world. All the archipelagos used up more than 53 million pounds of sand and about 12million pounds of rock.

Al Ain

The name “Al Ain” means “The Spring” in Arabic. This city is also known as the Garden City of the Gulf, thanks to its green landscape. Al Ain is located in Abu Dhabi, about 130 kilometers from Dubai, on the border with Oman.

If you are a culture lover and want to learn about the country’s past, Al Ain will make a great day trip from Dubai. This lush oasis is where Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan spent much of his life. This means that this city has a lot of historical roots.

Some highlights of the trip are the Al Ain Palace and the Al Ain National Museums. The palace museum was constructed in 1937 and opened to the public in 2001.

Human settlement on this oasis – which has been listed as UNESCO site – dates back to the Stone Age.

7. Ferrari World

Ferrari World

Ferrari world was opened on 4th November 2010 and sits 112 kilometers from Dubai. The park’s foundation stone was laid on 3rd November 2007.

The enormous theme park covers 86,000 square meters.

This massive theme park comprises of Formula 1 race courses, Flying Aces, and roller coaster slides. If you long for the ultimate Ferrari driving experience, it’s about time you made a trip to this amusement park. The Formula Rosso ride is the world’s fastest roller coaster; it goes from 0 to 240km/hr and gives you the thrill of the real Formula 1 racer experience.

8. Jumeirah Archeological Site

Jumeirah Archeological Site

The Jumeirah Site is a historical archeological area that is located between Jumeirah and Al-Wasl road. These ruins date back to the 9th and the 11th Century.

Back in the day, the site functioned as a stopover for the caravan of traders who traveled between Oman and Iraq. This site is now a major attraction, bringing in tourists, researchers, historians and archeologists from all walks of life.

When the site was excavated in 1969, ancient treasures such as bronze coins, plate ware, and pottery jugs were found. This collection is on display inside the Dubai Museum.

9. Umm al Qaywayn

Umm al Qaywayn Museum Fort

Umm al Qaywayn is also spelled as Umm al Qaiwain. This constituent emirate of the UAE is located on the Arabian Peninsula and faces the Persian Gulf. Umm al Qaywayn is located about 57km from Dubai and about 171km from the country’s capital, Abu Dhabi.

Umm al Qaywayn is the 2nd smallest and the least populous of all the seven emirates. The emirate has a triangular shape with an extremely irregular coastline; it has multiple small inlets, offshore islets, and spits.

Unlike most of its neighbors, this emirate’s economy does not rely on oil; no deposits have been found here. Its revenue is dependent upon tourism, fishing, and pearl diving.

10. Wadi Adventure Park

Surfing

This adventure park is located approximately 153 kilometers from Dubai, in the arid zone of Al Ain.

If you would like to get away from the Dubai heat, visit the Wadi Adventure Park and cool down as you relax.

Bring your whole family to the park; there are lots of activities that you can all participate in, such as surfing, kayaking, swimming, and zip lining.

11. Sharjah

Sharjah

Sharjah is located 20 kilometers from Dubai. Due to its proximity to Dubai and thanks to the lower cost of living, most people working in Dubai prefer to reside in Sharjah. For this reason, you might get stuck in traffic if you find yourself on the roads at rush hour.

Sharjah is the only one of the seven emirates that has a coastline on both the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf.

In this city, both the sale and the consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited. One needs to have an alcohol license. The city also takes its decency laws very seriously. Both men and women should not expose their knees, backs, or bellies.

12. Ras Al Khaimah City

Ras Al Khaimah City

This city is also referred to as Julfar and is located 94 kilometers from Dubai. It is another one of the emirates making up the UAE.

“Ras Al Khaimah” directly translates to “top of the small huts.” In this area, there are many huts along the coastal region; these were the area’s indigenous settlements.

Ras Al Khaimah is located in the north of the UAE and sits between the Persian Gulf and the Hajjar Mountains.

Ajman

This capital is the 5th largest city in the UAE and is located 30 kilometers from Dubai, along the Persian Gulf. If you travel by plane, it will take you approximately 20 minutes to reach Ajman on your day trip. Ajman covers an area of about 460 square kilometers and borders Sharjah to the northeastern end.

Ajman is a rapidly developing tourist destination thanks to its beaches that extend for a distance of 16 kilometers.

The Emirate officially joined the UAE on December 2, 1971.

14. Khor Fakkan

Khor Fakkan

This city is located along the eastern coastline of the Gulf of Oman. Khor Fakkan is surrounded by Fujairah. Khor Fakkan literally translates to “Creek of Two Jaws” in Arabic.

The bay area faces to the north-eastern end. The jetty that serves as the terminal for container ships protects the area from the strong winds experienced in the region. This container port is the deepest in the region.

Khor Fakkan rises to an altitude of 1,023m above sea level. This city is fairly developed due to the presence of the white sandy beaches that attract tourists.

15. Jebel Ali

Jebel Ali

This port town is situated 35 kilometers away from Dubai. These two cities are connected via the UAE Exchange, Danube, and the Dubai metro energy stations.

In Arabic, “Jebel” means mountain. Some historians believe that the port town got its name from Prophet Muhammad’s cousin, Ali bin Abi Talib. The historians say that he stood on the hill overlooking the sea and supplicated.

This port is one of the most visited ports – outside the US – by ships belonging to the US Navy. This is due to its size, depth, and facilities offered.

The Adventures of Nicole

The Perfect 3 Day Dubai Itinerary

Updated April 2024, The Perfect 3 Day Dubai Itinerary was originally published in May 2021

Until recently, I’d only visited Dubai on a series of 12 hour layovers while traveling to and from other destinations in the Middle East and Central Asia over the past decade. On my most recent trip, I finally decided to plan a 3 day Dubai stopover, finally making the time to take in some of the best Dubai has to offer.

This 3 day Dubai itinerary is based on some of my favorite things to do in and around the city.

Where to Stay in Dubai

  • Budget:  For budget travelers, the  Bollywood Beach Hostel  comes highly recommended.
  • Midrange:  I opted to stay at the  Al Bandar Rotana Dubai Creek , which was the perfect choice in my opinion. The room prices were in the right range and the hotel is located near the Deira and Bur Dubai highlights.
  • Splurge:  A favorite among those looking to splurge on a room with an epic view, the  Shangri-La Hotel  is where to book.

How to get around in Dubai

Metro:  The Dubai Metro can get you around to a majority of the tourist sites around the city. Tickets are priced based on how many zones you will be traveling through, costing 4-8 AED per journey. If you will be using the Dubai Metro a lot each day I’d recommend buying a day pass for 22 AED per day.

Abra:  Abras (also called dhows) are small traditional boats used to cross Dubai Creek. So if you need to pass from one side to another, head to one of the several abra docks, a trip across will cost you 1 AED.

Bus:  Dubai has a pretty extensive public bus system that connects just about any destination in the city. Bus tickets are connected with metro tickets, meaning that if you buy a day pass, it will work on both modes of transport.

Taxi:  Good news, taxis are regulated in Dubai. Fares are metered and you can even pay by credit card for your ride. I found taxis to be quite a bit cheaper than Uber while staying in Dubai, sometimes 1/2 the cost!

Uber/Careem:  Both Uber and Careem are popular in Dubai. Slightly more expensive than taxis, but gives you the ability to schedule trips.

The best time to visit Dubai

The best time to visit Dubai is between November to March when temperatures are more bearable. In April temperatures begin to climb, seeing above 40° by May. June, July, and August are extremely hot and humid making most outdoor activities next to impossible.

In September and October temps begin to cool down, being pleasant again by November.

What to wear in Dubai

Dubai and the UAE are quite liberal-minded regionally speaking, so the dress isn’t as strict as other countries in Arabian Peninsula, however, opting to cover knees and shoulders is a good rule of thumb.

3 Day Dubai Itinerary: Day 1

At.mosphere Restaurant, Dubai, Burj Khalifa, Burj Khalifa breakfast, At.mosphere breakfast, Dubai breakfast

Sunrise breakfast at At.mosphere

Wake up with Dubai from 122 stories above the city. The sunrise breakfast at At.mosphere Restaurant in the Burj Khalifa is a true highlight and in my opinion well worth the splurge. I’d always wanted to do this, but never had been able to make it there on a layover, so knowing I had 3 solid days in the city this was at the top of my Dubai bucketlist.

Reservations are required, you can make reservations directly through At.mosphere here. I would recommend you try to do this at least two days in advance to make sure it isn’t fully booked. Note that you will need to spend a minimum of 200 AED per person.

Despite being more of a backpacker-style traveler, the breakfast at At.mosphere is a bit of splurge, but if you can swing it I highly recommend it (I love a great and unique dining experience!). If you want the full experience, opt for the Decadence Breakfast that allows you to try a little of everything, though this option comes in at 375 AED per person.

Breakfast begins at 7 am and continues until 10 am. From my experience, I recommend aiming for the 7 am time slot for the best lighting over the city.

Not to worry if you don’t want to splurge on an expensive breakfast but still want grand views from the top of the Burj Khalifa. You can always grab one of these  deals on Burj Khalifa tickets to the 124th & 125th floors .

  • Cost:  Minimum 200 AED per person for the breakfast at At.mosphere, 150 AED for Burj Khalifa at the top ticket.
  • Metro Stop: Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall

Dubai Aquarium

Dubai Aquarium

Once you’ve finished up your breakfast at At.mosphere Restaurant head back down to Earth and pay a visit to the impressive  Dubai Aquarium .

At the Dubai Aquarium, you’ll get the chance to walk through the underwater tunnel watching all kinds of sharks and fish swim on by before you enter the Underwater Zoo to learn more about an array of sea life.

  • Entrance:  135 AED if you  book online in advance  (prices go up quite a bit if you purchase at the entrance. If you plan to do the Burj Khalifa at the top ticket and the Dubai Aquarium you’ll want to  check out this Burj Khalifa & Dubai Aquarium combo deal .

3 day trip from dubai

Sunset Dunes Tour

Finish off your first day in Dubai with an excursion outside the glitz of the city with an  afternoon sunset dune tour and Arabian BBQ . Several operators offer variations of these trips, but from my personal experience, I highly recommend OceanAir Travels’ Premium Red Dunes & Camel Safari with BBQ at Al Khayma Camp.

These tours usually depart between 2 and 3 pm with a duration of 5-8 hours. They include dune bashing, camel ride, buffet bbq dinner at a tent camp, a chance to interact with falcons, and countless photo opportunities.

  • Cost:  251 AED per person

Get High on Dubai on a hot air balloon

Full disclosure, this is the one thing on this itinerary that I’ve not done (but intend to eventually on a return trip!) but came recommended by many friends that have taken a trip to Dubai. These  Dubai Desert hot air balloon rides  require an insanely early start with a pickup of 3:30-4:00 am, leaving the city in the dark of night to bring you to the desert to give you the experience of sunrise over the desert.

  • Cost:  1,350 AED+ per person

Go Snowboarding at the Mall of the Emirates

The hot air balloon experience typically ends mid-morning as the temperature begins to climb. To escape the heat head over to the Mall of the Emirates. Now those of you that follow my blog probably think I’ve lost my mind recommending that you take time out of your day to visit a shopping mall but hear me out…

The Mall of the Emirates offers a few unique opportunities (for a shopping mall), including an  indoor ski hill . If you’re like me and you grew up in Alaska or some other destination with an array of mountains and near-endless winter the ski hill won’t be the most exciting thing you’ve skied or ridden, but it is pretty wild to snowboard down a hill inside a giant refrigerator located inside a massive mall in the Middle East.

Not to worry if you don’t ski or snowboard either, there are huge windows from which you can observe riders… plus the Mall of the Emirates offers up countless other experiences. You can also go zip lining or have an  encounter with penguins at Ski Dubai , try your skills at rock climbing at Go Sports Megastore, have a Nerf gun battle at Magic Planet, or even hop around at a trampoline park.

  • Cost of Ski Dubai:  220 AED+ per person
  • Metro Stop: Mall of the Emirates

If you still have some energy left, head back down to Burj Park to watch the impressive Dubai Fountain show. These shows run on a schedule from 6 pm to 11 pm.

Explore Old Dubai

Dubai hasn’t always been the massive and sprawling metropolis it’s known as today. It has more humble beginnings, being a small village, in the beginning, settled by Bedouins.

The general area is known as Deira, which is the historic commercial center of Dubai. A must-see is the Al Fahidi Historical District (also called the Al Bastakiya District). Al Fahidi is home to several renovated traditional Emirati homes, as well as many galleries and delightful cafes.

Not to miss are the Gold Souk and Spice Souk of Deira, a true highlight.

  • Metro Stop: Al Ras or Gold Souk on the Deira side of Dubai Creek, Sharaf DG or Al Ghubaiba for the Al Fahidi side

Take a Heritage House Tour

While you’re visiting Old Dubai, don’t miss the chance to learn about the historical part of the city, its traditional architecture, and even try some Emirati cuisine. After my visit, I recommend hopping on  OceanAir Travels’ quick 1 hour Emirati Heritage House Tour  for more insight into the wild history of Dubai from village to metropolis.

  • Cost:  59 AED per person
  • Metro stop: Sharaf DG or Al Ghubaiba

Laze around at Jumeirah Public Beach

Soak up the sun for your last afternoon in Dubai from Jumeirah Public Beach. Also, don’t forget to stick around until sunset to catch the sky changing colors with the Burj al Arab in the distance.

  • Metro stop: Financial Center or Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall, then take a taxi the remainder of the way.

Before you set off on your road trip, it’s important to do a little bit of planning so that you can make the most of your time.

Think about what kind of scenery you want to see. If you’re looking for some desert landscapes and rolling sand dunes, then a trip to Liwa Oasis is perfect. Or if you’re after some stunning mountain scenery, head to the Hajar Mountains.

You’ll also need to consider how much time you have and how far you want to travel. If you only have a few days, it’s best to stick to shorter trips within easy reach of Dubai. But if you’ve got a week or two to spare, there’s plenty of scope for longer road trips.

Finally, make sure you have a good map and plan your route carefully, so you don’t miss any of the best sights along the way!

What to expect on a road trip in Dubai

Before you set off on your road trip, it’s important to know what to expect. Here are a few things you need to know:

The UAE is a very safe country and violent crime is rare. However, as with any destination, it’s always important to take precautions and be aware of your surroundings.

Driving in the UAE can be quite challenging, especially in the cities. Be prepared for busy roads, impatient drivers, and lots of beeping.

The weather in the UAE can be extreme, so make sure you pack sunscreen and plenty of water. You won’t likely have to drive in bad weather, however, as it only rains a few days out of the year (and they do cloud seeding to make this happen!).

The Ultimate 3-Day Dubai Itinerary

Dubai Fountain

Do you wish to take a vacation to a place that is not the average Middle Eastern destination? Then look no further. Dubai is the perfect travel destination if you are looking for Middle Eastern vibes mixed with a touch of luxury and modernity. Furthermore, Dubai is home to some of the world’s most innovative attractions that are found nowhere else. With just a short vacation, Dubai can reveal its contemporary vibes, rich culture, and eclectic unique attractions .

The city of Dubai is often called the world’s most futuristic metropolis. There are very few places on the planet that dream the impossible and have the guts to turn them into a reality, but this is one, perhaps the most ambitious city on the planet. Dubai is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates and is the most popular destination in the UAE. Often, Dubai is called a desert city, but with the beautiful Persian Gulf flanking it, it’s also a coastal city.

The city contains a medley of some of the most beautiful modern landmarks in the world as well as Bedouin charm that offers a wonderful contrast to the contemporariness surrounding it. From restored ancient houses and bazaars to the glistening of the tallest structure in the world, Dubai is all set to make your jaws drop at every turn.

Even though Dubai is not the biggest emirate in the UAE, it packs a punch when it comes to entertainment and recreation. The city is synonymous with luxury and is home to the only seven-star hotel in the world – The Burj Al Arab Jumeirah .

Dubai also boasts exciting desert adventure, luxury shopping, amazing dining, beautiful canals, and waterways, as well as an array of the world’s finest attractions. There is always something new to see in Dubai’s city skyline no matter how often you visit. An overview of Dubai in 3 days is presented in the below itinerary which provides the finest insight into what Dubai has to offer its tourists.

The Ultimate 3-Day Dubai Itinerary

Dubai Creek

Al fahidi historical neighbourhood, dubai museum, dubai souks, burj khalifa and dubai fountain, option 1: img worlds of adventure, option 2: aquaventure water park, museum of the future, dubai desert safari, shopping malls in dubai, basic facts about dubai, best time to visit dubai, day 1: old dubai and dubai downtown.

Of course, you want to visit the tallest building in the world – the Burj Khalifa, and that is exactly what Day 1 has for you. But, before getting into that, take a moment to understand what Dubai looked and felt like before it became a global megacity. For this, a trip to Dubai Creek is a must.

Dubai Creek

Dubai Creek played a critical role in transforming Dubai from a local village into a shining modern city. The shores of Dubai Creek were home to the first Emirati settlers, traders and fishermen. Today, a major portion of a traditional Arabian settlement is still preserved on the shores of Dubai Creek. Begin your visit to Dubai with a stroll along the Dubai Creek and an abra (boat) ride to admire Dubai’s old-world charm set against the glistening backdrop of towering skyscrapers.

Al Fahidi Fort

Now that you have seen how far Dubai has developed from its desert origin, you may be intrigued by how settlers in the emirate lived before it became a popular urban city. Dubai’s Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood preserves part of its past. These alleys and houses are a total contrast to Dubai’s modern lifestyle, and it’s as if you have stepped into a completely different world. This section of Dubai lacks luster but has an earthy-toned ambiance that’s soothing.

Saunter along to see houses with wind towers that worked as a cooling system in that era when air conditioners did not exist. Visit some fascinating art galleries in Dubai and have a coffee or Arabian snack at the Arabian Tea House, one of the most popular traditional courtyard cafes in the city.

Dubai Museum

Dubai Museum, located within Al Fahidi Historical neighborhood, showcases Dubai’s early inhabitants’ lifestyle and is the ideal place for visitors who want to learn about what life was like for early Dubai settlers. Located in the oldest structure in Dubai- Al Fahidi Fort, the Dubai Museum will open your mind with its installations and exhibitions on how simple Dubai’s life was before it became a futuristic metropolis.

Dubai 2015 Souks

Our next stop is the Dubai Souks. On either side of Dubai Creek, you will find Arabian bazaars with shops lining the alley that have been in operation for decades. Visit Dubai’s most dazzling spot, the Gold Souks, where you can find a fascinating display of extravagant jewelry of gold and semi-precious stones.

You can shop for amazing traditional goods at the Perfume Souk, Textile Souk, and Spice Souk. The knack of haggling can get you some great deals on authentic jewelry and merchandise. Visit the food scene for a lunch break and sample various food specialties, such as traditional Emirati dishes, and Indian, Asian, and Mediterranean varieties. For an unforgettable view of Dubai Creek, head to Al Seef for its alfresco restaurants.

The Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain

When dusk falls, head to one of Dubai’s most happening hubs – Dubai Downtown. Here, you stand in the vicinity of the world’s most spectacular tower and the tallest one ever made – Burj Khalifa . Don’t miss your Instagram moments and capture this stellar structure for your social media. On the Burj Khalifa’s 124th level, you can experience Burj Khalifa’s ‘At the Top’ experience. It offers unparalleled views of Dubai city and beyond from the highest observation deck in the world. The entire city glows in the evenings, infusing the view with a scintillating aura.

The Dubai Fountain located adjacent to Burj Khalifa adds a spectacular grace to the overall ambiance. It’s an evening you won’t easily forget. Sample some amazing collections of cuisine at Downtown Dubai restaurants, the most recommended ones to try out for a memorable dining experience are Thiptara, Serafina Dubai, and Social House Dubai. For the best experience, make a reservation a few weeks in advance to avoid last-minute hassles or disappointments. The ultimate upscale dining experience in Downtown Dubai is inside Burj Khalifa, at the At.mosphere – the highest restaurant in the world.

Day 2: A trip to Dubai theme park and a unique attraction

Begin Day 2 in Dubai with thrill and joy. Today, Dubai offers you a different perspective – one of adventure and fun. In Dubai, you will find some of the finest recreational spots to enjoy a fun day with your group that has something for everyone. There are many theme parks in Dubai, and you might find it difficult to decide which one to visit. Aquaventure water park and IMG Worlds of Adventure are two of the most adventurous theme parks worth visiting.

Aquaventure Dubai is an outdoor water park and IMG Worlds of Adventure is an indoor recreational park. Book a ticket to one of these Dubai theme parks as part of your indoor or outdoor adventure on day 2 of your Dubai tour . Ensure you have a light breakfast before you head to these amazing parks. You will love every moment of it

IMG Worlds of Adventure

With a size equivalent to more than 28 football fields combined, IMG Worlds of Adventure is the largest indoor theme park in the world. Adventure lovers, kids, and fans of Marvel heroes will enjoy IMG Worlds of Adventure’s rides and shows inspired by the characters of the Avengers and Cartoon Network. The Lost Valley section takes you through prehistoric vibes complete with animated dinosaurs. At this theme park, you can spend a half-day, which is perfect for those visiting during the summer months or for those not eager to spend time outdoors.

IMG_20190617_095411

Boasted as the biggest water park in the world, you get a choice of over 100 rides that range from knuckle-whitening water slides to laid-back adventures. The water park is located alongside the Atlantis the Palm on the Palm Jumeirah, which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Dubai.

Aquaventure water park offers a range of the most daringly adventurous flume rides, some with near-vertical drops that are exciting for extreme adventure lovers. Children have their own splash area that is full of slides, splash pools, and other fun water activities. The water park also features the longest artificial river in a theme park that has varying currents and tides which make up for impressive rafting experiences. The water park offers a wave simulator to surf on as well as a picturesque private beach shore for some laid-back relaxation.

The Museum of the Future, Dubai

Take a quick stop at the Museum of the Future before heading back to your hotel. A brand new addition to Dubai’s scintillating city skyline and a stellar architectural wonder, this oval-shaped structure will take your breath away with its grandeur. In contrast to traditional museums that display remnants of the past, the museum showcases the future. Dubai’s first futuristic museum was unveiled in 2022, and it quickly became one of the most popular attractions to visit in the city. Visit the exhibition inside to witness possible future creations and the ideas behind creating a better tomorrow.

Day 3: Desert Safari and Shopping experience

When you go to Dubai, it would be unfair not to spend some time in the Dubai desert while you are there. After breakfast on your last day in Dubai, leave the city behind for a few hours to visit the Arabian desert.

Desert Safari Dubai

The Dubai desert is more than just dunes, it lets you unleash an adrenaline rush like never before. You will have the opportunity to enjoy some thrilling desert activities such as dune-bashing, quad biking, sand boarding, and camel rides during your desert safari tour. You would have never thought that deserts could be so much fun!

Desert Camp Dubai

Having completed your desert adventure, make your way back to the city for the ultimate shopping experience. You should definitely shop in Dubai, which is often referred to as a mecca for shopaholics around the world. Toward the end of your Dubai tour, do not forget to visit Dubai’s prestigious malls such as Mall of the Emirates, Mercato Mall, Wafi Mall, Souk Madinat, and Dubai Mall. You can purchase anything you desire there.

One of the most rewarding shopping destinations is the Dubai Mall, which has 1200 retail outlets for a delightful shopping experience. Located on Jumeirah Beach Road in Dubai, the Mercato Mall provides a different shopping experience with its Italian Renaissance vibe. The Wafi Mall and Mall of the Emirates are two other renowned malls in Dubai that you can check out as well.

Dubai is a city in the United Arab Emirates. The city boasts a mélange of glistening skyscrapers with fantastic modern designs. To the west, you can find the sunny shores of the Persian Gulf. You get to see the endless Arabian Desert and the Hajar Mountain, which lies to its north, as you move away from the city. All in all, it does not seem right to call this city a desert city, as it has a mix of a coastal destination and a mountainous terrain along with a modern city and a desert environment.

The currency of Dubai is the AED and the time zone of the destination is GMT+4 hours.

Dubai

Dubai is often described as a city with two summers – a cool summer and a hot summer. Due to its desert location, it is prone to sunshine all year long. So which months are best suited for a Dubai holiday?

During the cooler months, November through March, when the scorching sun is mild and bearable, and evenings are comfortable, are the most popular months for travelers.

Dubai is famous for its annual Dubai Shopping Festival at the end of the year as well as for its extravagant New Year’s Eve party , which is why December is a very busy time for tourism, and therefore travel services are very expensive at this time of year. Whether you are looking to visit Dubai on a budget or to see it at a time of the year when it is not too crowded, you should probably plan your trip during September and October when most tourists are just beginning to arrive.

Dubai never ceases to amaze its visitors and with an ever-growing list of attractions, this city keeps enticing them to return for more. You will be convinced that there is no such destination as Dubai once you have experienced what it has to offer. The itinerary covers the essentials of old and new Dubai and its cultural heritage and gives an overview of the recreational fun and epic adventures it has to offer for its visitors. However, this holiday plan only skims the surface of what Dubai has to offer, introduces you to Dubai, and has you intrigued to discover more. You can cover a lot more attractions and experience Dubai to the fullest extent with extended stays. If you have a short trip planned, this itinerary is ideal for you.

What do you think? Does this itinerary suit your vacation plans? Tweak it up as per your preference and enjoy a memorable holiday in Dubai.

Burj al arab.

Burj Al Arab Dubai

Start your morning with a visit inside of Burj Al Arab Hotel, the iconic sail-shaped hotel and one of the most well known landmarks in Dubai. This 7 star hotel is located on its own artificial island with beautiful views of the Arabian Gulf.

Even if you are not a hotel guest you can tour the inside of the hotel or enjoy a luxurious golden cappuccino at the outdoor cafe.

After a nice and filling breakfast, the best way to head on with the day is to visit the most popular public beach in Dubai, Kite Beach . The Kite Beach is in close vicinity of the Burj Al Arab , which offers great views of the hotel. It also very famous for different water sports activities including kite surfing and jet skiing. Not to mention, Dubai is one of the cleanest cities in the world and the beaches of Dubai are even cleaner. Dubai Mall & Musical Fountain

3 days in Dubai Itinerary Mall fountain show

For those who don’t know, the Dubai Mall is the largest mall in the world. It is located adjacent to Burj Khalifa , which is the tallest building in the world. Visiting Dubai, then going to the Dubai mall is almost mandatory for every traveler!

The Dubai mall is a whole different world in itself. From more than 500 retail outlets to restaurants, cafes and an indoor aquarium, the Dubai Mall is never short of any entertainment. Not to mention, it requires four to five hours to completely explore the mall. The most exciting activity to do in Dubai Mall is to watch the musical fountain show . The show happens every thirty minutes every day after 6 PM. It is a free show to watch so definitely it is something not to miss.

Day 2 of Dubai Itinerary

Desert safari.

3 days in dubai itinerary

Do you know that almost 70% of Dubai’s land is desert? This means that even if you don’t love doing adventures while traveling, going for a Desert Safari in Dubai is a definite must! You can go for the safari independently but it is highly recommended to go with a tour company like this one . There are many tour companies organizing the desert safari tour. It is a four to five hours tour that starts in the morning which includes dune bashing with a professional driver. After dune bashing in the desert, there is a falcon and belly dance show which eventually ends with the lunch.

Mall of Emirates

After an adventurous start of the day with the desert safari, some afternoon nap is definitely a must! However, to start off with the evening, a visit to the Mall of Emirates could be made. The Mall of Emirates is one of the most beautifully designed malls in Dubai. It has a huge Carrefour store and a cinema too along with hundreds of retail outlets and brands. The most interesting activity to do at the Mall of Emirates (especially if you are visiting Dubai with kids ) is the Ski Dubai , which is a snow park.

Marina Cruise

24-36-48-hours-in-Dubai-Marina-cruise

After the lazy stroll or a shopping spree at the Mall of Emirates, the day can be ended at a high note with a dinner at the Dubai Marina Cruise. The Dubai Marina has many kinds of dinner cruises from hosted by different tour companies like this 1-hour cruise . You can find longer cruises as well:

Day 3 of Dubai Itinerary

Atlantis the palm.

Dubai Travel Blogs Atlantis the Palm

The last day in Dubai can be planned to be more relaxed so starting off the day by visiting the manmade wonder of Atlantis, The Palm would be a great idea. Atlantis, The Palm is the biggest and the most luxurious resort hotels in Dubai. It is built on Palm Island, which as the name suggests is a palm-shaped artificial island. The visitors are not allowed to enter inside the premises of the hotel; however, you can still enjoy the view of the hotel from the small Corniche area right in front of the hotel.

After exploring the modern side of Dubai, it is finally time to get to experience the local neighborhood of the glamorous city. The Gold Souq (Gold Market) of Dubai is the best place to get up and close with the not-so-glamorous side of Dubai. The Souq is a big marketplace with small confusing alleyways filled with tiny congested gold shops, most of which are owned by the Indian expatriates living in Dubai. The Gold Souq also happens to be one of the oldest areas of Dubai, which was formed nearly some twenty years back by the expatriate South Asian workers who came to Dubai as laborers.

Dubai Festival City Mall

After experiencing the chaos at the Gold Souq in the old Dubai area, the final stop of the trip can be the Dubai Festival City Mall . Just like any other mall in Dubai, the Dubai Festival Mall is also a huge property with hundreds of retail outlets and restaurants. However, not many people know that the Dubai Festival Mall also hosts a laser light show called ‘Imagine’ and a musical fountain show every evening just like the Dubai Mall. Though the musical fountain show is not as great as the one at the Dubai Mall this one is also definitely one to watch out for.

Barsha is a more modern area of Dubai, which is a thirty-five to forty minutes’ drive away from the Dubai International Airport . Barsha has a boutique to luxury accommodation options for the travelers. Also, this area is more close to the center of the city with many major monuments and places to visit in the close vicinity only. However, this is a more expensive part of Dubai as compared to the old Dubai area. Along with the high hotel prices, the overall expense for food and shopping in Barsha would be slightly more than that in Bur Dubai. However, if you’re looking to explore the urban vibe of Dubai by staying in the heart of the city, then Barsha would be the perfect choice for you to stay at.
