Tour of Parthenon and Temple of Athena Nike

Other ruins and monuments

A fun, archaeologist guide

Maximum group size of 16

Your journey begins at the entrance of the Acropolis where you will pass through the Propylaea, the imposing gateway that’s stood since the 5th century B.C. Stepping inside, you will feel the weight of history on your shoulders as your guide explains the significance of this gateway to ancient Greek culture.

The Imposing Parthenon

This is the building you usually think of when talking about the Acropolis. Step inside the columns and listen to its rather remarkable history as a treasury, temple, mosque, church, and even an arsenal! Dedicated to the goddess Athena, the Parthenon is considered one of the greatest achievements of ancient Greek architecture. Marvel about its construction, its role in ancient Greek culture, and the secrets of its stunning beauty as you stand inside.

The Temple of Athena Nike

Perched on a rocky outcropping of the Acropolis, the Temple of Athena Nike awaits you with stories to tell of her own. You’ll be impressed by the intricate carvings and impressive architecture while learning about its history in the ancient Greek world. This temple was a symbol of victory in war and peace, and it nearly didn’t survive on more than one occasion.

Theater of Dionysus and Odeon of Herodes Atticus

The adventure doesn't end there! You'll follow your guide to the ancient Dionysus Theater, one of the world's oldest theaters (6th century B.C!), and imagine the magnificent performances and dramatic spectacles that once took place here. A whopping 17,000 used to sit here, so be sure to take a seat and imagine them sitting next to you. Then, explore the smaller Odeon of Herodes Atticus from Roman times. It’s another amphitheater that is still used for concerts and events even today.

Breathe in the majestic aura of the ruins that you understand so well now before you head off to explore more of Athens. Be sure to ask your guide for a lunch or dinner recommendation!

History made fun!

Our guide Ermis was amazing. He is so incredibly knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. He made our tour so much fun. We also appreciated that during the climb to the top of the Acropolis, he would have us stop every so often and find a nice spot in the shade to share some information about the area and thing we were seeing. Our group is from Florida and it's very flat there so the frequent stops made the climb very manageable for us. Sure, you can go up to the top of the Acropolis on your own, but why not do it with a guide who can share insights on the things you're seeing? I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Athens and the Acropolis.

Acropolis and Acropolis Museum

A great way to see the acropolis.

"If you are considering a tour company for a visit to Greece, we highly recommend Athens Insider. They arranged five activities for us, and we enjoyed every one of them. They took excellent care of us, both in preparing for the trip and during the different excursions."

Acropolis and Acropolis Museum Guided Tour

Amazing tour of acropolis and museum.

"We booked private 4 hour tour to get an immersive look at history and temples atop Acropolis. Our guide Zakia met us at 9 am and we spent 2 hours exploring the architecture and the temples of the Acropolis before moving onto the superb museum where the ancient artifacts are laid out really well and just fascinating. Zakia was friendly individual really passionate and [...]"

Must have Nota to guide you!

Nota is an archeologist who grew up in Athens and is very knowledgeable and passionate about the history and culture. She was considerate of of needs and we really enjoyed our 6 hours with her. We learned so much more than we ever would have in days on our own. She met us at our hotel and finished in the Plaka with an easy stroll home. You should have sturdy walking shoes for all tours in Athens. Marble is very slippery! And take a snack with you as we didn't have lunch to 2:30 after a 9:00 am start.

A 10 out of 10 day!!!

On a recent trip to Greece, my daughter and I were lucky enough to have a personalized tour that included a visit to the Acropolis Museum, and a delightful wander through the surrounding area of Plaka/ Monastiraki/ Syntagma. Our tour guide, Anthea, was a mine of local knowledge - from the best shops in the Flea Market, to the little local tavern with a traditional home cooked menu...wow! [...]''

Exceed our expectations!!

Forget the impersonal long bus tours and sign up for this personalized unique view of Athens!! Anthia, who knows EVERYTHING about the history of Athens, also has a personal knowledge of the culture, people and back streets of Athens. Recommend doing the evening tour (6-10pm) due to the heat. We saw all the historic sights, Anthia took us to a local coffee shop and bargaining with merchants. Beautiful person inside and out, we developed a friendship in just 4 short hours! Definitely wear your walking shoes...ask for modified tour if you can't walk 3-4 miles in one night...would highly recommend!!!

Personalized service at it's best!

We booked two tours through Athens Insider's website before we left for our trip- private 4 hour of the Acropolis and museum, and the food of Athens tour. We enjoyed both tours and were so charmed by the guides, their knowledge and warm attention that we booked 2 more. It was so interesting seeing Greece through the filter of these enthusiastic, educated, local young people. Professional, flexible and very organized Anthina was able to set up tours at the last minute AND give us other helpful tips for the areas we visited. Felt like we had friends and family showing us around their country.

Great tour with the kids

We had a wonderful tour with Marialena this morning, a half-day tour of the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum. First of all, when we arrived in our hotel, we were pleasantly surprised to find a little welcome bag demo Athens Insiders! Such a nice touch. This morning, Marialena picked us up at our hotel and spent a great half-day with us. She told great stories, really engaged the kids (ages 9 and 5), and made it an unforgettable experience. We also added on the iPad virtual reality experience at the Acropolis, which the kids loved. Great tour - highly recommend!

Fantastic way to see & taste Athens in 2 days!

We did the Acropolis tour with Helen & Yannis the driver! Excellent knowledge of the history, museums, & culture of Greece/Athens! Would highly recommend - don't forget comfortable shoes and sunscreen... The second tour, Flavors of Athens, was with George- a professional chef who took us to the BEST little specialty shops, restaurants, & markets...all the time answering questions about cooking, recipes, everyday Greek life, and much more. Superb! Don't miss out on these great tours!

Excellent tour of Acropolis

Our family of five met Vivian who toured us through the Acropolis and the museum. She was very knowledgeable in the archeology, art and history of Greece. The kids really connected with provided access to iPads that imaged the buildings, inside and out, as they looked when used (picture). Her enthusiasm was contagious. She adeptly avoided crowds and found us shade when presenting information. We walked 4+ miles in total. Juice break included and appreciated. Highly recommended.

Great way to experience The Acropolis and surrounding area

This was an excellent tour of The Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum, and the surrounding area. It is a lot of walking, but the pace was manageable. Angela was our guide and was extremely knowledgable and kind. We highly recommend this tour as a great way to experience some amazing history in Athens.

Excellent Acropolis and Acropolis Museum Tour

While we could have opted to do this ourselves, we went with Athens Insiders and definitely made the right choice. The booking was easy, we were collected at our hotel and experienced a wonderful few hours touring the acropolis and acropolis museum. We got so much more out of the experience than doing ourselves.

Informative, well paced tour!

Had a great tour with Eleni of the acropolis and museum. It was well paced & very informative. I appreciated that we were able to customized our tour and adjust the times to fit with our tight schedule. Eleni was awesome and knew the ins and outs of greek history and mythology. Would definite book Athens insiders again! Can be pricier because all tours are customized and private but very worth it!

Outstanding Tour of Acropolis and Museum

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum with Marilena. It was wonderful to bypass the line. She was so informative and friendly. Highly, highly recommend!

Guided tour of the Acropolis and the Museum

Visit very well commented in French by Petros who was able to make us discover all the facets of the site and make us understand the museum as well in its collections as in its architecture. Thank you also to Mariliza for its efficiency in the organization. for his seriousness

EXCELLENT !!!

Hi, I visited this beautiful museum for the second time last week. It is rightly considered one of the richest in works (most of which are very ancient and well preserved) to be admired. Absolutely not to be missed and photographed room by room. The Top, for me, is the huge statue of Zeus and the hall full of wonderful busts!

Tour the Acropolis Without the Crowds: Pristine Parthenon Early Morning Acropolis Tour, Athens

Wondering how to tour the Acropolis, Greece, without the crowds?

Taking an early morning Acropolis tour is your chance to explore the Parthenon with fewer people. Take advantage of visiting during the early hours of the day to explore this iconic landmark at a more relaxing pace.

No trip to Athens would be complete without a visit to the Parthenon – it’s a must-see for any traveller! On my recent trip to the Greek capital, I took a morning tour to see it without the noise and bustle of other tourists.

Pristine Parthenon might just be the best Acropolis tour you’ll find. Read on to find out why.

I’ve partnered with Take Walks to bring you this travel guide. This article is based on the destination and experiences I took part in. All views and opinions are my own.

Why Take an Early Morning Acropolis Tour?

There has to be a pretty solid reason to make me haul myself out of bed anytime before 9 am – I’m naturally a night owl. A few things do entice me to get up early: when I have a flight to catch or I want to get out, explore and take photos before the crowds arrive.

Over a million people visit the Acropolis every year. It’s Greece’s most popular attraction.

Even outside of the peak season, the Acropolis can resemble an ant hill as tourist steam up and down it. The best way to avoid crowds is to get there early, and the most efficient way to do it is on an Acropolis early morning tour .

If you’re planning your Athens Acropolis visit, check out the Pristine Parthenon tour I did with the guys from Take Walks and find out what to expect.

TLDR: The Pristine Parthenon Tour is the best way to see the Acropolis without the crowds. Your guide and skip-the-line tickets for the Acropolis AND the Acropolis Museum are part of an all-inclusive price with no nasty hidden extras.

Guide to the Acropolis – What You’ll See on This Tour

During our Acropolis of Athens tour, we had the opportunity to see all the iconic landmarks with next to no crowds blocking our view. These are some of the ruins you’ll visit:

The Odeon of Herodes Atticus

The propylaea.

  • Temple of Athena Nike

The Parthenon

The erechtheum.

  • The Friezes from the Parthenon (in the Acropolis Musieum)
  • The Original Caryatids (in the Acropolis Museum)

Pristine Parthenon: Tour the Acropolis Without the Crowds

After booking, my tickets were sent by email. The tickets have instructions about where to meet and the time – 7.15! For me, that felt like a deathly hour. Our meeting point was near the foot of Acropolis Hill where I joined our small group as we waited for our guide – group sizes are capped at 15!

One of the great things about Athens is that there are bakeries open at this time of the morning. I was able to pick up breakfast on the way to the meeting point and eat it while our licensed tour guide for the Acropolis explained to us how the tour would pan out.

Tall marble columns stand at The Parthenon during the daytime

Before the Tour

Our guide explained that the Acropolis and Museum Tour would last around 3.5 – 4 hours, starting with the Acropolis, to beat the crowds, and then moving on to the museum. We were then handed our audio sets, did a sound check and started our stroll to the main entrance.

The Acropolis opens its doors to visitors at 8 am and we wanted to be the first in. Because this was an Acropolis skip-the-line tour , our tickets fast-tracked us through the entrance – no queuing and waiting in line.

Beat the Crowds Tour of Acropolis

If you visit the Acropolis on a Sunday and arrive at 8 am, you’ll catch the tail end of the Evzones – the Presidential Guards – making their way back down from the Acropolis. Every Sunday they make their way to the top of the Acropolis to raise the Greek flag at sunrise.

Once through the gates, we made our first stop. Our Athens Acropolis tour guide stopped us next to the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.

Built in 161 AD, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus is one of the most recognizable structures in the Acropolis. One of the most interesting facts is that it’s still in use today!

It was primarily used for music performances and theatrical plays – its use hasn’t changed much over the centuries.

The Ancient Greeks sure knew a thing or two about how to make a building that stands the test of time. Although it was renovated in the 1950s, despite centuries of erosion and degradation from natural elements, a substantial amount is still original.

The Odeon of Herodes Atticus, theater in an open air with a front wall offering a stunning view of the city

Our Acropolis walking tour continues through the main entrance – through a structure called the Propylaea.

The Propylaea is an enormous structure that has stood since 437 BC. Its purpose was to serve as a grand gateway to the sacred area of the Acropolis. It features marble staircases, porticos, and once would have been adorned with sculptures.

Cobble brick tiles and walls at the entrance to the Acropolis

The Temple of Athena Nike

As you walk up the stairs and through the Propylaea, turn your head upwards and to the right. Here you’ll see the Temple of Athena Nike. This small temple was built on a platform near the entrance looking out upon the city of Athens and the sea in the distance.

It was built between 426-421 BC as a dedication to Athena Nike; the goddess of victory, and would have been covered with sculptures and friezes.

The Temple of Athena Nike showcases the stone columns and walls in a blue sky

No tour of the Acropolis of Athens would be complete without spending a decent amount of time perusing around the Parthenon. This, after all, is what most people come to see, and it didn’t disappoint.

The Parthenon is the largest and most well-known temple on the Acropolis of Athens. Construction began in 447 BC when the Athenian Empire was at its height. It’s approximately 30 metres wide and 69 metres long. It features 46 outer columns and 23 inner columns and once would have housed an inner temple.

Currently, the Parthenon is undergoing some substantial renovations which will hopefully preserve it for another few thousand years! Renovations started in 2017 and are set to be completed by Summer 2023.

Parts of the Parthenon are under renovation with scaffoldings

On the outside, you can still see some of the decorative sculptures and friezes that would have adorned the upper part of the building. However, many of these have been lost over time – one of the most renowned cases was by Lord Elgin. He removed a large portion of the sculptures and took them to the UK in 1801. They are on display in the British Museum.

The Parthenon features the intricate carvings and sculptured in Acropolis, Athens

The final iconic building at the Acropolis was the Erechtheum. This building is instantly recognisable thanks to its north porch. It features six female figures known as Caryatids which support the roof.

These sculptures are thought to represent the priestesses of Athena or her maidens, and they have become the symbol for the city of Athens. The ones you’ll see at the Acropolis are reconstructions. The original ones have been moved into the Acropolis Museum to help preserve them.

The Erechtheum is believed to have been built between 421-405 BC. It was dedicated to both Athena and Poseidon .

Wander around to the back of this building to see the ancient olive tree. The legend goes that this was a gift from the goddess Athena. The ancient tree has miraculously survived for over 2,500 years!

The Erechtheum building features brick walls with statues standing on the side of the wall

Free Time at the Acropolis

We finished the main part of our walking tour of the Acropolis with an opportunity for some free time. We were given about 20 minutes to go back and explore the area on our own.

I took advantage of this time to wander around and go back to get more photos of everything we had seen. Even though it was still before 10 am, you could really feel the crowds starting to pick up.

Our group gathered back together. Walking back out through The Propylaea you could really see how many people were swarming in through the entrance. As much as I would have loved to have spent longer here, I knew I’d hate how busy it was at this point. Time to leave.

We exited through the main entrance where a snake-like queue had already started to form. I’m glad we got to experience the Acropolis in its relative quiet before the crowds arrived.

Guided Tour of the Acropolis Museum

The next part of our morning was a skip-the-line Acropolis Museum guided tour.

The Acropolis Museum is a state-of-the-art museum offering a great insight into the history of the Acropolis. It is home to many important artefacts discovered at the site, including the famous Parthenon Marbles.

We started on the 3rd floor. Here is where you’ll find the friezes from the Parthenon. They depict battles, mythological creatures and other scenes from Ancient Greece. Our guide explained in detail the history behind each of these friezes, giving us a better appreciation for them.

She then pointed out the differences in the colour of the stone. If they were a brownish colour, they were original pieces, if they were whiter, they were reconstructions taken from an original piece displayed somewhere else in the world. The gaps are where there is no record of the piece.

Friezes from the Parthenon inside the Acropolis Museum

Even though they are thousands of years old, it was incredible to see how much detail was on the carvings. I took an arts-based degree, and even after my training, there’s no way I’d be able to produce anything as remarkable as these. They are incredibly beautiful pieces of artwork.

Another highlight was the original Caryatids which came from the Erechtheum. These are located on the 1st floor. Because you can be much closer to the sculptures in the museum compared to the ones in the Acropolis, you’re able to see the level of detail on each of the Caryatids. It’s astonishing to think these are thousands of years old!

Besides an abundance of other artefacts, the museum also featured so many digital and physical models of what the Acropolis would have looked like in its heyday. It would have been quite something to look at all those thousands of years ago.

The Original Caryatids stands inside the acropolis museum

Is the Early Morning Acropolis Tour Worth It?

Yes, especially if you’re not a fan of crowds, which the Acropolis has. Getting there early, as soon as the gates open, in my opinion, is the best way to visit the famous Greek landmark.

If you’re looking to book a skip-the-line Acropolis tour, then Pristine Parthenon by Take Walks not only offers that, but you also have a knowledgeable and official guide giving you tons of information about the site.

Tips for Visiting the Acropolis

If you’re planning to visit the Acropolis, Athens here are some useful tips based on both of my visits to the site.

1. Arrive early – Crowds start to get big from about 10 am onwards, so get there as soon as the gates open. Ideally with a skip-the-line ticket to fast-track your way through.

2. Bring water – It can get very hot and humid in Athens during the summer months so it’s important to keep hydrated throughout the day. It’s quite an exposed site, so there aren’t many chances to get away from the heat. The great thing is that there’s an onsite water fountain to refill your water bottle.

3. Wear comfortable shoes – Even though there’s a main path, a couple of things to be aware of is that it’s slippery: the polished marble in particular. Make sure your shoes have a decent grip. There are also plenty of rocks to navigate through. My advice; don’t wear your high heels!

4. Don’t forget to look up – The ancient architecture is stunning and some of the best views aren’t always at eye level. The Parthenon still has plenty of detail at roof height.

5. Respect the rules of the site – Make you don’t go to off-limits areas. Some parts are cordoned off, partly because they are undergoing renovation and partly to protect the site from damage. There are plenty of guards around, so if you do step into an off-limit area, you can be sure to hear their warning whistle.

6. Dress appropriately – Although there is no strict Acropolis dress code – like the dress codes for visiting religious temples in Thailand   –  make sure you’re wearing something suitable. The site is exposed, so you’ll need a hat and sunglasses for sure. During the winter, it can get windy on top, so you’ll certainly need a jacket.

7. Make sure your camera is fully charged – You won’t want to miss out on taking some awesome pictures of the sights, especially if you’re there without the crowds!

The Best Acropolis Tour, Athens  – FAQs

So, I’ve gone into detail about the best Athens Acropolis tour, and given you Acropolis tips and advice to help plan your visit. This section covers any other questions you might have about your visit.

Do You Need a Tour Guide for Acropolis?

No, you need to go on a guided tour. However, it is highly recommended to book a guided tour of Acropolis , Athens. They will help put everything you’re seeing into context.

Can I Do a Self Guided Tour of Acropolis?

Yes, you could opt to do an Acropolis self-guided tour. On my first visit to the site, this is exactly what I did because the focus of my visit at that time was to go at my own pace to take hundreds of photos.

However, the downside was that I didn’t have a clue what most of the stuff was that I was looking at. I knew I had a guided tour booked for later in the week, so I wasn’t too worried, but if you don’t plan on doing a guided tour then I recommend reading up on the site beforehand for a better overall experience.

Which Is the Best Acropolis of Athens Tour?

There are dozens of different tours available. Be sure to check what’s included – on some tours you have to pay extra for entrance when you arrive! Doing the Pristine Parthenon tour of Acropolis in Athens not only guaranteed early entry, but was an all-inclusive price, with a skip-the-line entry for the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum.

Where Can I Buy Acropolis of Athens Tickets?

To make sure you’re buying legitimate Athens Acropolis tickets, I either suggest buying from the on-site ticket booth or the official Acropolis website. You can also buy them from reputable vendors, like the included ticket on the Pristine Parthenon tour I did.

If you’re buying tickets to Acropolis in Athens through a vendor, check that they are officially licenced to sell tickets and not a scam.

What’s the Difference Between Acropolis vs Acropolis Museum?

Your Acropolis tour tickets don’t automatically include entry to the Acropolis Museum. They are two different attractions.

The Acropolis is an ancient citadel that includes the ruins of several historic structures, including the Parthenon. The Acropolis Museum is more modern, and it showcases artefacts from the archaeological site at the Acropolis as well as other sites around Athens.

When Is the Best Time to Visit the Acropolis?

The Acropolis is a year-round attraction. However, the best time to tour the Acropolis and Parthenon is during the shoulder and low seasons – October and April. Aim to arrive early morning on a weekday for fewer crowds.

When Are Acropolis Visiting Hours?

The Acropolis hours vary depending on the time of the year although it opens at 8 am daily all year round.

Acropolis of Athens hours in the winter: 8 am – 5 pm (last entry at 4.30 pm) Acropolis of Athens hours in the summer: 8 am – 8 pm (last entry at 7.30 pm)

Can You Visit the Acropolis at Night?

No, you need to plan your Acropolis Athens visit during opening hours. The site is closed at night. However, the whole of Acropolis Hill is illuminated at nighttime, so head to one of the nearby rooftop bars in Plaka to take in the view.

Is It Easy to Tour the Acropolis With Mobility Problems?

The Acropolis does have some facilities to make this site accessible for visitors with mobility issues. However, this particular Athens Acropolis tour took a route that would not have been accessible for a wheelchair user.

Now Go and See the Acropolis Without the Crowds!

If you’re in Athens, the Acropolis guided tour is a must.

Although you can visit the site at any time of day, because of the crowds, a lot of the charm is lost and it can feel like a wrestling match at times trying to see things.

On the Pristine Parthenon Tour, the Acropolis was pretty much empty – particularly at the beginning of the tour when the gates had just opened. As much as I dislike early starts, I know I dislike crowds more so it was 100% worth getting there before the chaos.

Enjoy the benefits of skip-the-line early access, with a knowledgeable guide. Now go and experience the best Acropolis guided tour for yourself.

I won’t spend my time in the Acropolis on “Free Entry for All” days because it’s been chronicled in tales and photos. Free admission continues to attract a large number of people. If you’re on a limited budget, visit late in the day to take advantage of the free entrance (or early, but many tour groups go early).

What time can I visit Acropolis , Parthenon, and other ancient Greek ruins?

When it’s warm outside, you may visit ancient sites from early in the morning till dark (beginning 1 April). In the winter, we are open from 8:00 am to 17:00 pm.

I need to buy my tickets at the Acropolis athens and Acropolis ticket offices.

The only way to obtain a ticket to the event is to utilize the ticket vending machines on-site if you didn’t purchase one in advance online and don’t mind taking a chance. The primary ticket office for the Acropolis is located underneath the main entrance.

There aren’t long queues even on the busiest days and weekends in winter (20-30 minutes at the busiest periods). If you want to avoid waiting in line for longer than two hours throughout the summer, follow these tips.

On this website, you may also buy a ticket and other items together as a package deal. As a reminder, you may also get your unique ticket at the entrance of each participating archaeology. Check out some other options instead of waiting in line at the Acropolis ticket office this summer (there are never long queues at these sites). Do you have the option of purchasing an Acropolis ticket online in advance?

To purchase either a single-entry ticket or a multi-site/combination ticket, you may do so online beginning in 2018. (As detailed in the following paragraphs). Skip-the-line tickets and guided tours are two ways to avoid the long lines at attractions.

Purchase online – The Official Ticketing Site for Acropolis Tickets

Online ticket purchases will not be available to those looking to get a head start on the season. June tickets cannot be purchased on the official website before the end of January.

Until the 1st of April, this will not be finalized and put into practice. This is due to the fact that summer and winter airfares are so vastly different in cost. At the moment of purchase, August tickets are only available until the end of October. To purchase a winter vacation ticket, you’ll need to try again on November 1st (1 November 2020 to 31 March 2021). Our GetYourGuide partners allow you to reserve your seats in advance, which is another perk.

Before purchasing tickets to the Acropolis online, please read this.

All of us assumed that purchasing from the “official website” would be secure, and we’re not alone. Emails flood my inbox when individuals inform me they’ve ordered their tickets incorrectly (using the wrong dates) or that they have to change their vacation plans due to a mistake.

They sent a letter to this department. “Bad luck,” was the unambiguous reaction. “Read the Terms & Conditions” With authorised ticket sellers, refunds or exchanges for tickets purchased in error are not available.

You cannot change your plans, because there is no way for you to do so. If you’re unsure about anything, please double-check your order details before submitting it. In order to protect my clients’ personal information, I am unable to provide email screenshots. Unfortunately, purchasing through the official website is a gamble.

In light of the above – The Official Ticketing Site for Acropolis Tickets

Tickets Online- The Official Ticketing Site for Acropolis Tickets

You may purchase tickets for several trips to the Acropolis online. Packaged together or in a unique way If you want to visit other significant archaeological sites in Athens, purchasing tickets is a smart idea. Due to the Greek Ministry of Culture’s control over certain locations, these tickets are legal to purchase. Each participating location’s entrance or the Ministry of Culture and Sports’s website may purchase a ticket (link below).

http://odysseus.culture.gr You must buy a multisite/Combo ticket online in order to avoid both the Ticket Office wait and the lines at the two Acropolis gates. You may buy a combo ticket for €30 per person all year round without a winter discount.

Do ticket bundles provide any advantages over purchasing only the individual tickets?

The answer to this inquiry depends on how many locations you intend to visit, just as with other combination tickets/passes and packages. The Combo Ticket is valid at FIVE locations for seven days. Pricing for this particular ticket bundle varies greatly depending on whether you purchase it in the summer or winter. It costs €64 for the Combo Ticket to access both locations throughout the summer (1 April to 31 October).

To purchase the Combo Ticket, visitors may pay €20 for the Acropolis (€10) and €10 for the Ancient Agora (€10). There are seven sites to view in the schedule, and the Acropolis is one of them. There is a half-price discount of 50% on single-entry tickets for each venue during the summer months (see the list below for eligibility). The Combo Ticket does not qualify for a 50% discount. Each location’s discounted entrance charge is €32.

Assuming that you want to visit all seven venues, you’ll save money by getting the combo ticket for €30 (€32). During the winter months (1 November to 31 March), everyone pays half-price (50 percent discount) at all seven sites (see the list below).

The Official Ticketing Site for Acropolis Tickets – Discounts are available for the duration of the summer.

A 50 percent summer discount does not include an extra 50 percent reduction on the reduced price.   There is no discount for the Combo Ticket during the year. As a result, the average winter admission fee to each of the seven venues is €32.

(unless you qualify for free entry). Adding an additional €2 to your Combo Ticket is all that’s required. One or two winter vacations don’t justify purchasing the Special Ticket Package. Unless you plan to visit the Lykeion Archaeological Site, your vacation will cost you money. In the case of the Roman Agora, for example, you’ll lose €2. Which historical places are included by the combination ticket?

The Official Ticketing Site for Acropolis Tickets – Athens, Greece’s Acropolis

Athens’ most renowned landmark is the Acropolis , a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist destination. Most important venue of worship for ancient Athenians.   This time period is when Athens was at its most powerful, and most of its monuments are from this period. The Acropolis is home to Greece’s most famous religious structure, the Parthenon. Other notable structures are the Erechtheion and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. A one-person ticket costs €20 (a €10 savings).

You may purchase tickets for the North and South Slopes of the Acropolis online.

Acropolis’s northern and southern slopes are just as intriguing as its summit, despite the fact that most visitors to the mountain make their way to the top. Buildings on the Acropolis ‘s slopes are a reminder of how important the location was to ancient Athens in terms of religion and culture. Nearby are the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the Theatre of Dionysus, as well as a slew of other religious landmarks. Ancient Peripatos Street connects two hills considered to be one location. In order to access the North or South Slopes, you just need to pay the reduced €10 Acropolis admission fee.

The Official Ticketing Site for Acropolis Tickets- City of Agora, Greece’s First Capital.

Besides acting as Athens’ principal food and retail market, the Agora was a political and judicial nerve center for the city. Even though Hephaistos Temple is the best-preserved ancient temple ruin in the area, it’s not the most visited. As a church since the 7th century, it’s been a great success. You can view the Acropolis from the Agora. Those who want to see the Stoa of Attlas restored to its former grandeur can pay an additional fee to visit the museum. There is a large collection of artifacts on show at this museum. For one person, the fee is €10 (reduced by €5).

The Official Ticketing Site for Acropolis Tickets – The Forum of Romans

The Roman Agora, erected in the first century B.C., is not far from the Ancient Agora. Make sure to look out for the inscription on the building’s foundation that mentions Augustus and Julius Caesar. The agora’s enormous courtyard contains a variety of attractions such as restaurants and stores because of the number of business options available. This area has public sanitary facilities as well as the octagonal Tower of Winds, which served as a hydraulic clock and served as a location for astronomical observation. Artwork depicting “eight winds” adorns the roof of the tower. It costs €8 to enter (reduced to 4)

The Official Ticketing Site for Acropolis Tickets – Keramikos Archaeological Site and Museum

Kerameikos is located in the ancient city of Athens’ northern neighborhood. According to the neighborhood’s name, it was formerly a popular destination for potters. However, here is where you’ll find Attic’s oldest and largest cemetery. Tumulus mounds, family graves, and individual columns surround an archaeological site ringed by walls.  You’ll get free admission to the Kerameikos Archaeological Museum as part of your ticket. The museum displays artifacts collected from the evolving burial traditions of ancient Athens, as well as those unearthed during the city’s archaeological excavations. A one-person ticket costs €8 (a €4 savings). Lykeion is a separate kind of lykeion from the others. An ancient palaestra was discovered recently during rescue efforts. An esteemed university in Seoul called as Lykeion Gymnasium (Lyceum). According to historical accounts, Aristotle’s school of philosophy was formerly located in this region. The Apollo Lykeios shrine, which predates the gymnasium, inspired the gym’s name. However, archaeologists uncovered no evidence of this temple throughout their study of the site. Ancient wrestlers and boxers practiced in this 0.25-hectare palaestra, which is now open to the public (50 x 48 m). Entrance used to cost €4 but is now just €2, a savings of €2.

The Official Ticketing Site for Acropolis Tickets – Hadrian’s Library in Rome is just one example.

When Athens opened to the public in 132 AD, the Roman emperor gave it Hadrian’s Library. Hadrian was a well-educated Hellenophile who had a significant impact on the city with his many accomplishments. A massive Corinthian propylon serves as an entrance to the region today, via a Pentelic marble façade with a massive Corinthian propylon. A 122-by-82-meter courtyard around the library’s peristyle structure. The ancient papyrus texts were kept in the ‘library’ to the east of the temple complex. A colossal statue of Nike and other relics uncovered during the dig are on exhibit in a small, cramped display area. The price of a single admission has increased from €3 to €6 (previously €2). Olympian With its enormous Temple of Olympian Zeus, Olympieon is a famous tourist attraction in antiquity. You can’t view the monument from the fence, despite its vast size; instead, you must stand at their feet to really understand their majesty (16 of the 104 columns remain). These include a Roman bath house, a number of residences and the remains of a 5th-century basilica, as well as elements of the city wall. The archaeological site is only a short walk away from one of Athens’ biggest avenues, Hadrian’s Arch. A one-person ticket costs €8 (a €4 savings).

The Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum are must-sees.

It’s a no-brainer to see the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum at the same time. The Combo Ticket does not include admission to the Acropolis Museum.   Admission to these museums isn’t too expensive. It costs an additional €2 to take a tour of the Acropolis Museum and Archaeological Excavation with Get YourGuide >>. If you’re just interested in seeing the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum, avoid the crowds at both locations: The Acropolis and the Museum >>

The Acropolis Museum’s Skip-the-Line Ticket with Audio-Guide is another popular choice.

Tickets for acropolis guided tours and visits are available online..

At GetYourGuide, you may purchase an Acropolis ticket for €45 for a guided tour of the Acropolis . The package includes a one-and-a-half-hour guided tour by an experienced local guide.  GetYourGuide has a variety of walking tours to choose from. They vary in duration and the destinations they visit. Even though these tickets allow you to avoid long lines, they typically don’t cover the cost of admission. Customers may already be eligible for discounts or multi-site passes as a consequence of this.

The Official Ticketing Site for Acropolis Tickets – The audio tour

Many people choose the skip-the-line ticket with audio tour when they want a guide but do not want a human guide. For a little fee, you may skip the line and enjoy an audio tour of the Acropolis . With a smartphone and a set of headphones, you’ll be ready to go. Instead of waiting in line, take a guided audio tour of the Acropolis that includes historical context, fun facts, and an interactive map you can take with you. In order to use this software, you must have one of the three operating systems stated above (Android or iOS) (English, French, and Spanish). More information and resources may be found by clicking here >> The five-hour tour of Athens, which includes visits to the Acropolis and the new Acropolis Museum, is the best value. My year-round recommendation is this tour. With a €84 guided tour of Athens, you’ll be able to view the Acropolis and the Royal Gardens as well as the Panathinaikos Stadium and the Acropolis Museum in person rather than via an audio guide. The €84 price includes both the Acropolis and the museum. In order to book this certified walking tour in advance, you may use GetYourGuide. Crowds at the Acropolis

‘It’s plain elitist’: anger at Greek plan for €5,000 private tours of Acropolis

Archaeologists and guides among critics who say scheme goes against what symbol of democracy should represent

J ackie and Malcolm Love stood amid a bevy of tourists in the heart of Athens taking in the Acropolis with a mixture of awe and admiration. The Greek capital’s greatest classical site was truly magnificent, they said, but the crowds had been such, even in April, that they preferred to experience it from a distance.

“We didn’t go, not with all those people,” said Jackie, looking up at the fifth-century monument from the cobbled boulevard below. “We didn’t think it’d be the best thing to do, did we?” she said, nudging her husband.

The couple, enjoying a city break from Ipswich, their English hometown, had pondered whether to do a private tour instead. The Greek culture ministry is planning personalised visits to the ancient complex – at €5,000 (£4,285). “We wouldn’t pay that,” said Malcolm, a lorry driver. “Crazy prices,” Jackie chipped in. “Certainly not for people like us.”

The Acropolis is by far Greece’s biggest attraction, drawing more than 22,000 visitors a day last summer, forcing authorities to introduce tough controls , including a time-slot system.

This year, officials have gone a step further, announcing a scheme that allows sightseers to beat the crowds and experience the Periclean masterpiece on an exclusive basis. The initiative foresees up to four groups of five people being guided by expert archaeologists around the site between 7am to 9am and 8pm to 10pm – before opening and after closing times – to avoid the thousands of selfie-snappers who hourly ascend the rocky hill. “We’ve had requests from tour operators for this for a very long time,” said Nikoleta Valakou, the president of the Hellenic Organization of Cultural Resources Development, a state body connected to the culture ministry.

Jackie and Malcolm Love in Athens.

The ministry, she said, was prepared to permit tours for individuals, provided they were willing to pay the group fee. “There’ll be souvenirs too,” added Valakou. “A replica of a coin, perhaps, or copy of a small statue … something to conjure memories of the unique experience.”

But the measure – part of an overhaul of ticketing policy at more than 350 archaeological sites and museums managed by the Greek culture ministry – has triggered anger and derision, including from archaeologists. Guides have described it as impractical and critics have argued it runs counter to the spirit of everything the world’s pre-eminent symbol of democracy is supposed to represent. “The next thing you know people will be making marriage proposals and drinking champagne up there,” said Despina Koutsoumba, the vice-president of the country’s archaeologists’ association. “They’ll feel entitled, if they’ve spent that sort of money, to do whatever they want at the site.”

The very idea, she said, was “unacceptably exclusive”. After all, the monument was the emblem of democratic Athens in which citizens enjoyed equality before the law.

“What this says is Greece is willing to give people who have money the ability to enjoy the Acropolis in a very exclusive way while leaving out those who simply don’t have such means. We’re utterly opposed to it,” Koutsoumba added.

Previously, only world leaders, royalty and the odd celebrity had been granted access to the site out of opening hours.

The public, with the exception of academics and preservationists, have one day – the August full moon – to savour the temples at night.

As opposition has mounted, critics have questioned the wisdom of the decision at a time when the wealth gap between the rich and poor has become ever more accentuated. “It’s plain elitist,” said Costas Zambas who headed restoration works at the Acropolis for over 25 years.

“The very notion goes against the spirit of a place that we associate with democracy. It doesn’t sit well.”

With Athens at the sharp end of the climate emergency, tourist guides have raised objections over the workability of a scheme that for the vast majority will mean the site opening at 9am instead of 8am. Last summer the Greek capital – continental Europe’s southernmost metropolis – experienced record temperatures of up to 45C (113F), compelling officials to take the unprecedented step of closing the Acropolis for several days.

“If they push back opening hours to 9am because of these private tours it’s going to be a disaster,” said Kriton Piperas, who until recently was the head of the 4,000-strong Panhellenic Federation of Tourist Guides. “For several years our union has been pressing for the Acropolis to open earlier precisely because of the changing weather. Don’t forget with the lack of shade it’s that much hotter up there.”

Increasingly, he said, Greece’s pro-business centre right government saw culture through an exclusively commercial lens. “They look at the Acropolis and anything associated with tourism as a product,” he said. “This idea of unique tours is like putting a price tag on the site, it reminds me of an auction where the highest bidder wins and is told ‘you can have it all to yourself’. It’s wrong and bound to lead to trouble.”

Ticket-holders on cruise ships, which are the source of ever more day-trippers to the Greek capital, often book months in advance and are on a very tight schedule. Most are waiting in line at the Acropolis by 8am.

In her office overlooking a central Athens boulevard, Valakou said the culture ministry had taken the criticism onboard. The tours, it is estimated, could bring in up to €40,000 a day, with proceeds going to cash-starved cultural projects.

“Revenues will be reinvested,” she said. “As the Acropolis will be the first for such tours it’ll be a pilot programme and we’ll be open to change.”

The omens are not all bad. The scheme has been met with delight by some in the Greek diaspora where the well-heeled have already suggested they will be signing up.

“I’ve heard from dozens of friends who’ve expressed interest in joining these bespoke tours,” said Peter Poulos, the executive director of the Hellenic Initiative, a global Greek diaspora philanthropic organisation.

“Why not relieve people of their money if it’s going to help protect and preserve our cultural monuments for generations to come? We all support the loftiest of ideals but at the end of the day ideals aren’t going to pay the hard costs needed to run a site of this magnitude.”

Olympic torch makes Acropolis overnight stop a week before handover to Paris organizers

Greece olympics paris torch relay acropolis.

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — The flame that will burn at the Olympics is spending the night at the ancient Acropolis in Athens, a week before its handover to Paris 2024 organizers.

During a lull in heavy rain late Friday, a torchbearer lit a cauldron in front of the 2,500-year-old Parthenon temple, on the citadel that dominates the Athens skyline and is Greece’s top tourist draw.

The flame will stay there until Saturday morning, when the champagne-colored torch travels to Delphi, an important ancient Greek religious center, before reaching the town of Volos in central Greece.

Ceremoniously lit on Tuesday at the ruined birthplace of the ancient Games, Olympia in southern Greece, the flame is being carried around Greece by a string of torchbearers. Parts of the relay are being made by ferry or plane.

The flame will be delivered to French officials next Friday at the renovated ancient marble stadium where the first modern games were held in 1896. At Athens' port of Piraeus it will board the Belem , a French three-masted sailing ship — built in 1896 — to be transported to France.

The flame is due to reach the southern French port city of Marseille on May 8, and will travel through France in the buildup to the July 26 opening ceremony in Paris.

Korda will match Nancy Lopez (1978) and Annika Sorenstam (2005) if she claims her fifth straight tournament win and is well-placed at Carlton Woods after a three-under 69 lifted her to seven under.

Lottie Woads delights with 'terrific' final round

"It's definitely been a whirlwind," said Woad. "I didn't really have a chance to let Augusta sink in, coming here straightaway.

"I obviously took a lot of confidence from Augusta, so I am just trying to use that for this week.

"My aim was to make the weekend. I'm in a good position now so I am just going to keep trying to move up. I'm just going to use that experience I had playing in front of people on the big stages.

Korda rebounds from shocking start to top leaderboard

World No 1 Korda began her round awfully with a double bogey but then proceeded to birdie two of her next three holes before following a bogey at seven with back-to-back gains at eight and nine.

Korda went on to secure two more birdies on her back nine to move top of the leaderboard, as she looks to add the Chevron title to her triumph at the 2021 Women's PGA Championship.

The Chevron Championship: Best of Nelly Korda's faultless second round!

She said afterwards: "Making sure I don't get too down on myself is really important during a major. It takes a lot of patience to win.

"The person that makes the least amount of mistakes or recovers the best from their mistakes usually ends up winning."

On a packed leaderboard - albeit one shorn of defending champion and world No 2 Lilia Vu after she withdrew due to a back injury ahead of the first round - England's Jodi Ewart Shadoff is in the mix on four under after a two-under 70 on Friday, with compatriot Georgia Hall at one under.

Hall shot a one-over 73 on the day during an eventful round as she mixed five birdies with four bogeys and a double bogey.

Charley Hull, at one over for the tournament, is also set to make the weekend after improving her score by a stroke following a one-under 71 on Friday, with the highlight an eagle at the par-five eighth.

Vegas, US tour and more signings: Wrexham has plenty of fun and work ahead after latest promotion

Wrexham and its Hollywood owners are halfway to the promised land.

Playing in the Premier League — the world’s richest and most popular soccer league — might not be such a fanciful notion, after all, for a club that not so long ago was success-starved, financially stricken and languishing in the fifth tier of the English game.

Under the ownership of celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since 2021, Wrexham has achieved two successive promotions — the latest being clinched on Saturday when the team was assured of going up to third-tier League One.

Two more promotions and Wrexham will be mixing it with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United in the Premier League.

That, though, may take some time.

Before that, Wrexham’s players have a league title to go for, some post-season celebrations to enjoy — Las Vegas, anyone? — and another U.S. preseason tour to make before starting their bid for a third straight promotion.

Here’s what lies ahead for the Welsh team whose extraordinary journey is being chronicled in the popular show “Welcome to Wrexham”:

TITLE CHANCE?

Claiming one of the three automatic promotion spots in League Two was the first aim and that has been achieved with two games to spare. Now, Wrexham has a chance to win some hardware by finishing in first place and capturing the title. It won’t be easy. Wrexham is in second place, four points behind Stockport, which has three games left. If Stockport isn’t able to clinch first place by winning either of its next two matches, the title could be up for grabs when Wrexham hosts Stockport at the Racecourse Ground on the final day of the season. It’s expected that Reynolds and McElhenney will be there for an occasion which will be a day of celebrations whatever happens.

POST-SEASON PARTY

The season hasn’t finished yet but the promotion party has already begun . Wrexham’s players were pictured — and filmed — enjoying themselves in a town-center pub on Sunday, a day after beating Forest Green 6-0 to spark a pitch invasion at the Racecourse Ground. Paul Mullin , the star striker and top scorer, was seen in the pub standing on a chair with his arms out and his eyes closed in front of his smiling teammates, who mixed with members of the public. After winning the fifth-tier National League last year, the squad was treated to a trip to Las Vegas by the owners — and the players might be headed to Sin City again. Asked what message was sent to Reynolds and McElhenney after sealing promotion, midfielder Elliot Lee said: “We’ve just told them to fire up the jet for Vegas!”

Wrexham has already booked in another preseason tour of the United States, just like last year. Only one match has been confirmed so far, and that’s against Chelsea in Santa Clara, California, on July 24. Wrexham played Chelsea and Manchester United as part of a four-match preseason trip to the U.S. in July 2023 that contained fixtures in North Carolina, Los Angeles, San Diego and Philadelphia in a 10-day span. It might have helped Wrexham grow its fanbase but might not been ideal in terms of travel and season preparation. Wrexham may choose to stay in and around the west coast this time and ensure the squad is back home in plenty of time to prepare for the start of the League One season on Aug. 10.

LIFE IN LEAGUE ONE

So what awaits Wrexham’s players in League One? For starters, they’re likely to have home and away matches against Shrewsbury, one of their big local rivals. They haven’t been in the same league since 2008, though Wrexham did beat Shrewsbury in the FA Cup this season. Wigan, a Premier League team and FA Cup winner barely a decade ago, is in the third tier, as might be Bolton and Blackpool — other teams who have been in the top flight this century. Wrexham is set to receive a cash boost of around $2 million from being in League One — more than half of which comes in the form of a “solidarity payment” handed down by Premier League clubs — that will help pay for some new signings. Deloitte has reported that the average League One team generates around $11 million in revenue but Wrexham is on course to top that, helped by its wider appeal likely making the team a popular watch on iFollow — the streaming service used by the English Football League. Indeed, Wrexham’s latest accounts showed that its turnover in the financial year of 2022-23 was $13.3 million, even if its losses increased to $6.4 million. Meanwhile, Wrexham will look to push on with the renovation of its Kop stand at one end of the Racecourse to boost its capacity, and therefore its gate receipts. There is a temporary stand in place at the moment, helping to lift attendances for home matches to more than 15,000. If Wrexham wanted any inspiration on its journey through the leagues, it just needs to look at Luton, which went from the fifth tier to the Premier League in nine years (2014-2023).
