This new facility tells the fascinating story of how, in 2013, the remains of King Richard III were found under a Leicester city centre car park. Transformed from an old school building into a beautiful museum, Richard III Visitor Centre walks visitors through the cutting edge forensic processes that allowed the monarch’s body to be recovered and correctly identified. Learn about Richard’s story, the War of The Roses and Medieval Leicester in an experience which tells the story of a 15th century king with 21st century technology.

It’s often easy to forget that modern, vibrant Leicester has a very ancient heart, but a trip to its perfectly preserved 14th-century Guildhall is a bona fide step back in time. Marvel at the magnificent Great Hall or stay out of trouble in the police complete with ghoulish 19th-century gallows and two notorious Leicester pick-pockets, Crankie Gemmie and Emma Staff. The staff at the Guildhall are said to be very friendly and helpful, which is more than can be said for its ghosts.

National Space Centre

If you dream of escaping to another galaxy, then the National Space Centre is for you. Boasting the UK’s largest collection of spacecraft and space-related artefacts, there is more than enough at the National Space Centre to keep you fascinated. With wonderfully informative tours and guides, the science of space travel has never seemed so accessible. A must for all future Tim Peakes or Helen Sharmans, the National Space Centre is a must visit for anyone fascinated with space and the science behind it.

Retro Computer Museum

Technology moves at such an incredible pace that it would be difficult for most kids to imagine a time before internet on their phones. In the Retro Computer Museum, you can let them explore the computers that were used back in a more analogue age, as well as playing some classic computer games like Streetfighter 2 and Sonic The Hedgehog. Sharing your nostalgia with your kids is a lovely way to spend the day and the Retro Computer Museum is something to be shared.

Leicester in one day

Start out by grabbing breakfast at Crafty St Martin’s cafe , near the Odeon arcade. From here, you can sink into a big leather couch as you watch the city wake up.

From there, we would recommend blasting off to the National Space Centre to get an early hit of exploration and awe. If you’d rather save your feet, a range of public transport options are available too.

Once you’ve satisfied your hunger for knowledge, head to Middleton’s Steakhouse and Grill for a sumptuous lunch. The fixed price menu provides an incredible two or three course lunchtime deal.

Just next door is King Richard III Visitor Centre where you’ll get some fascinating insights on the famous king and his impact on the city.

Finally, our recommendation for an evening bar is the Cookie . From here, you can close out the day with some dinner, or just head up to the rooftop bar for a fantastic view of the city.

Children aged between approximately 4-11 years old, or up to 150cm tall, may use booster seats. We carry a limited number onboard most coaches.

If travelling with a child, you may be required to show proof of age when buying tickets or at any point during your journey. Failure to do so may result in the child being required to pay the full fare for the journey on that day.

Soccer-Villa strengthen grip on fourth with 3-1 win over Bournemouth

BIRMINGHAM, England (Reuters) -Aston Villa stormed back from a goal down to beat Bournemouth 3-1 on Sunday, with strikes from Morgan Rogers, Moussa Diaby and Leon Bailey helping the Birmingham side to strengthen their grip on fourth place in the Premier League.

With the top four from the English top flight all qualifying directly for next year's Champions League group stage, the win means Villa have 66 points after 34 games, six more than Tottenham Hotspur, who have two games in hand.

With Villa inviting Bournemouth to press and insisting on playing out from the back, there were a few scary moments in the opening exchanges, with Justin Kluivert forcing a fine save from Emi Martinez in the 16th minute.

The visitors then took the lead when Villa defender Matty Cash chopped down Milos Kerkez and the referee immediately pointed to the spot, and Dominic Solanke slammed the penalty past Martinez for his 18th league goal of the season.

Villa equalised just before the break with a superb breakaway goal, Rogers picking up a superb pass from Bailey and running into the box before cutting inside and lashing the ball high into the net.

Shaking off the fatigue after qualifying for the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League with a penalty shootout win over Lille on Thursday, Villa came out blazing in the second half, with striker Ollie Watkins, who has scored 19 goals so far this term, turning playmaker.

First he teed up Diaby with a superbly-weighted pass to put the home side into the lead in the 57th minute, and 21 minutes later Bailey was able to wrap up the three points after Watkins found him at the far post for a simple close-range finish.

"It’s very happy today because it was such a strong performance. We need to play well to get three points at home in front of our fans. The race for Champions League, it is a good win and chance to get more points," goal-scorer Bailey told the BBC before praising Watkins.

"He helped the team a lot with a lot of goals, a lot of assists, a good game today and I am happy for him even if he does not score," Bailey said.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraloa lamented his side's inability to keep up with Villa in the second half.

"You have to take your chances against this type of opposition ... second half, things became more difficult. We weren’t as solid and they pushed us a lot running back so it was more difficult to attack," he told the BBC.

Bournemouth airport set for 2025 fares war as Jet2 moves in

B ournemouth airport is set to become the location for intense competition between airlines. Jet2 has announced the Dorset airport will become its 12th UK base from next spring.

Jet2 will deploy two aircraft on a range of Mediterranean and Atlantic island routes.

The inaugural flight from Bournemouth to Tenerife on 1 April 2025, will be followed by 15 other new links – almost all of which are already flown by other carriers, Tui and Ryanair . It signals intensified competition against Tui – which Jet2 Holidays overtook in terms of package passengers last year .

The only two Jet2 routes with no competition are Fuerteventura in Spain ’s Canary Islands and Funchal, Madeira.

On four of the routes – Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Palma and Tenerife – the new arrival will compete with both Ryanair and Tui.

Other Jet2 links are up against Tui competition:

• Antalya and Dalaman in Turkey
• Corfu, Heraklion, Rhodes and Zante in Greece
• Ibiza and Menorca in Spain’s Balearic islands

In addition, Jet2 will take on Ryanair to Alicante and Faro.

Jet2’s chief executive, Steve Heapy, said: “We know that customers and independent travel agents have been asking us for a long time to make this move, so we are absolutely delighted to be announcing today that Bournemouth airport will become our 12th UK base airport.

“As Which? Travel Brand of the Year, we know that our award-winning flights and holidays will be enormously popular across the region, and we cannot wait to show everyone what we are all about.”

“This latest expansion is a further demonstration of our confidence, and it reflects our long-term strategy to be the UK’s leading and best leisure travel business. We know that customers want to be properly looked after throughout their holiday experience.”

Bournemouth airport handled fewer than one million passengers last year, placing it 18th in the table for UK gateways. Manchester airport, a big Jet2 base, handles 30 times as many travellers.

Andrew Bell, chief executive of Regional and City Airports, which owns Bournemouth airport, said: “It will create new employment locally, add 16 fabulous new destinations from Bournemouth, up to 27 extra flights a week and will see an estimated additional 300,000 passengers using their local airport.

“This exciting partnership with Jet2 and Jet2holidays represents a step-change in establishing Bournemouth airport as a nationally significant regional hub for passenger air operations.”

The aviation schedule analyst, Sean Moulton, said: “Following Jet2’s expansion into London Stansted in 2017 and Bristol in 2021, the south has been a growing market for Jet2.

“Whilst Bournemouth will be the smallest of Jet2’s 12 bases, it will go head to head with Tui on several routes. Just two of the 16 routes being exclusive to Jet2 at Bournemouth demonstrates Jet2’s desire to compete head to head with Tui and to a certain extent Ryanair.

“If successful, this could lead to several smaller bases being opened up across the UK.”
