Below we show you what each area of Portugal has to offer, so you can make a decision about where you wish to camp in the country. Then we share some of our favourite campsites in each area, and explain wild camping in Portugal too.
Which Region Of Portugal Should You Camp In?
Northern portugal.
Although it’s the most populous region of the country, Northern Portugal is home to four World Heritage Sites. It’s a great tourist destination due to its outstanding natural features such as rivers, waterfalls, national parks, as well as medieval castles and ancient monuments.
This region is known for having the best surfing spots, and is perfect for outdoor lovers as it’s also a mountainous area too with many national parks. That makes it great for long hikes and thrilling outdoor activities.
Central Portugal
This region has a diverse landscape and is characterised by its many river valleys. Central Portugal is also home to many national monuments, fortresses and castles. The unique architecture, rich history and awe-inspiring cultural heritage here greatly contribute to this region’s charm and character.
There’s a multitude of picturesque towns, dense forests, green valleys, lighthouses on towering cliffs, and quaint monasteries to visit here. Plus this region also boasts the largest and highest mountain range in mainland Portugal – Serra da Estrela , which stands at 1993 metres above sea level.
If you are looking for somewhere with a much slower pace of life, along with beautiful scenery and tranquil surroundings, the region of Alentejo will offer you just that. This region is close to Lisbon too, so you’re not far from the country’s bustling and fun capital.
Comprising primarily of gentle rolling hills and plains, you will have the opportunity to explore the rich history in areas such as Elvas and Evora , listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
This region has a Mediterranean climate, making it perfect for enjoying the glorious beaches here. Some of Portugal’s prettiest and most unspoiled villages lie on the Alentejo coast.
The southern-most region of Portugal is a popular tourist destination and is brimming with fun-packed adventures, golden beaches, an amazing climate and picturesque fishing towns.
Boasting over 200 km of stunning coastline, historic towns and amazing waterparks, the Algarve is the perfect family getaway. The region is also home to the Ria Formosa Lagoon ; a nature reserve of over 170 km 2 – perfect for avid birdwatchers.
With a multitude of restaurants, cafes, soaring cliffs, limestone caves and grottoes, Algarve’s scenic coastline has the best beaches in the country, but that also makes it the most touristy region too. (Related: Camping in the Algarve ).

Wild Camping In Portugal
DISCLAIMER: Below we give general advice, but we always recommend staying in an official campsite. If you choose to go wild camping/dispersed camping, then make sure you do so with someone who already knows the area where you’re planning on camping for your own safety.
Officially wild camping in Portugal is not allowed, as is the case in many European countries. However campers who pitch their tent discretely and treat the land well are usually tolerated. If you’re caught though, you may have to move on. Mostly this is to reduce the risk of fires starting in the hot summer months.
If you do decide to go wild camping in Portugal, we’d advise sticking to the following guidelines in order to be as considerate as possible:
You should camp in the same place for one night only , and pitch your tent discretely and in a remote place. Therefore don’t camp in or near settlements, someone’s farm or on cultivated land. If you think you’re on private land, always seek out the landowner and ask permission.
Campers should set up their tent at dusk, and take it down at dawn. A tent that is discreet and pitches quickly is best. Therefore a lightweight walking tent like this one would be a great investment for someone planning to walk and camp in Portugal.
When camping in Portugal, do not create campfires as wildfires are a danger. Instead of building campfires, you could look into using a storm cooker for cooking – but check local laws first. Then there is much less wildfire risk and you can cook knowing that the fire is contained. We believe the best ones on the market are Trangia storm cookers .
If you are walking a main trail you should camp away from the path as a matter of courtesy.

We actually only wanted to stay for 3 days, but it turned into a week. Perfect campsite even for large motorhomes, nice pitches, good sanitary facilities including washing, spacious pool area, very well-maintained site and friendly and helpful multilingual staff.
I am currently here to hibernate for 5 months and will come back next winter, but then for 6 months. - In a word, it is an open-air hotel with all the trimmings. Great!

This Portugal camping guide covers nearly all corners of the country!
IMPORTANT: If you're going to find your own spot to camp for the night, avoid fines and get to know the current laws for Wild Camping in Portugal .

One Response to Camping Turiscampo
Rhodes in Greece, we sytead at the Atlantica Imperial Resort in Kolymbia and only got back about three weeks ago. Had a fantastic holiday and the kids loved it. The hotel itself was great even though the hotel is more aimed at couples as apposed to young families. Regardless of the hotel, Rhodes is a beautiful place and worth a visit.

The campsite is located very close to the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a true natural gem. Altogether there are 350 individual plots equipped with electricity and free Wi-Fi. It also has a swimming pool, shop, restaurant, mini gym, playground, barbecue area, and even an artificial lake! The facilities are clean and well organized.
7. Algarve Motorhome Park - Falésia
You can hardly find better than this based on location and price. The facilities are clean and very close to one of the best beaches in the Algarve - Praia da Falésia.
8. Algarve Motorhome Park - Silves
Conveniently located on the edge of Silves, a historic town characterized by narrow alleys, picturesque restaurants, small art galleries, and craft shops. This is a good, cheap option. If the time is right, you should visit the annual medieval fair that takes place in August.
9. Camping Alvor
The perfect place for kitesurfers! There is also good coverage of electricity points throughout the site.
10. Salema Eco Camp
Hidden among the trees, Salema Eco Camp focuses on being a natural camp and a perfect base for exploring the southwest of Portugal. This is the place of choice not only for surf enthusiasts but also for those who like to enjoy life at a slower pace.
What gives Salema Eco Camp our recommendation as the top camping site in the Algarve is its effort to minimize the environmental impact in all services and activities, investing in renewable energies, and reducing consumption. Using flow reducers and charcoal filters on all faucets, customers can fill their reusable water bottles at any water point in the facility. Solar energy is used to heat water and plastic consumption is limited by not selling bottles or other products packaged in plastic. Finally, most of the ingredients used in the restaurant come from small local producers!
These are just 10 of dozens of beautiful places in Portugal. If your favorite place is not on the list above, you can check the online directories for other sites. Enjoy your trip!

Camping in Portugal, Enjoy the Great Outdoors All Around This Country
No other way of travelling will give you a feeling of freedom as much as camping.
Well, maybe one… camping in Portugal!
Let me share my experience as a former nomad, living in a caravan for five months. Let’s explore the best places and lets find out what would be the best form of camping for you!
Best places to camp in Portugal
Definitely, the most popular place for camping in Portugal is the Algarve , but is it also the best one?
Well, it depends on you: Do you mind being surrounded by so many tourists?
Or do you feel safer with fellow campers around you?
In any case, the Algarve has numerous great camping grounds with good amenities for you.
Calmer areas to camp in Portugal
If you are more the ‘into the wild’ type of camper, you would be better off outside the typical tourist hotspots like the Algarve. For you, I would recommend going completely out of season. In April and October, it should still be warm enough for camping in Portugal.
The area north of Sagres , along the coast up to Lisbon, has breathtaking views and you will often be the only lone wolf there.
Generally, Alentejo is beautiful and one of the best places to stay in Portugal, where you can camp wild in many places without bothering anyone, except for some sheep that are so used to having the fields all to themselves.
Caravanning if you are a surfer
Surfers will, of course, love the area around Peniche and Ericeira , north of Lisbon, where there is plenty of space to park for a night and surf during the day. As much as locals might not appreciate it, surfing and caravanning go together like surfboard and wax.
Not far from the capital, you can stay at Carcavelos Beach where they have outdoor showers and a great swell for surf-lovers.
Around Lisbon
There is an unofficial caravan spot very close to Cais do Sodré, which is basically central Lisbon.
The Lisboa Camping and Bungalows campground can be found in Monsanto, the closest forest to the city, and you can stay there if you are traveling with a tent.
Roteiro Campista is a great source for finding a campsite all around Portugal.
Pros and cons of camping in a caravan in Portugal
On my five months’ journey with Esmeralda (my Mercedes Sprinter van that I had converted to a caravan), my main problem was finding a restroom and a way to shower.
Usually, van people do not like to stay in campgrounds. The whole idea of van life is to sleep where you feel like stopping, not where a map tells you to stop. If you have the budget for it and are the type of person that doesn’t function well without a daily shower, you might be better off with a real motorhome for camping in Portugal.
The van community is super nice and it’s so easy to meet fellow van people. It is very free, but remember that you still have to get water regularly and cooking in a van can take up a large chunk of your day.
Pros and cons of camping in Portugal in a tent
The biggest advantage of camping in a tent is obvious: it’s a lot cheaper than caravanning or staying in a hostel .
Often you can find a hidden spot where there is literally nobody to bother you. By foot, you can conquer a lot of those hidden beauties, that a vehicle can not.
But consider the weight of all the things you have to take with you: A tent, sleeping bag and maybe even cooking equipment if you plan to go really remote.
Wild camping in Portugal
Generally, wild camping is not allowed in Portugal. That being said, not allowed doesn’t necessarily mean forbidden, it’s rather a grey area for camping in Portugal. Different authorities handle this issue in different ways. In some heavily frequented places like the Algarve, there are task forces who fine illegal campers with fees up to €400.
In other places, there have been many cases where the police helped set up temporary spaces for campers. For example, when there was a danger of fires in the summer near the Algarve, they asked the campers to move but helped them relocate.
Making a fire
Speaking of fires. The numerous fires in Portugal have become tragically infamous because of the high number of deaths associated with them. So making a fire at a campsite is, of course, not permitted by law. Logical right? If you violate this rule, you will be penalized with high fines.
Campground costs in Portugal
Depending on the camping ground, the cost for one night with a tent will be around €5. Outside the season, it’s sometimes half price. For really posh places, you can end up paying around €20 per night.
Sometimes, there is an extra cost for using the showers.
Depending on how long you intend to travel for, it may be easier and cheaper to just rent a camper van. There are many offers around but Indie Campers is probably the biggest company in Portugal that rents vans.
Rental prices start from around €60 per night. Their campers even have a wifi connection. What total luxury! In my caravanning days, I never met anybody with wifi!
Showering and restrooms for wild campers
As mentioned, the biggest challenge with wild camping is finding places to freshen up. Here are some places I used to frequent:
- Swimming pool centers (indoors and outdoors);
- Fitness and other sports gyms (sometimes I would go Thai boxing just to use the shower afterward)
- Turkish baths (hammams); and
- Outdoor showers at public beaches , of course!
Some more great tips for campers
If you usually don’t know in the morning where you want to end up in the evening, the park4night app is for you. You can find official campgrounds, showers and other amenities and also great hidden treasures for camping in Portugal and Europe. Don’t be mislead by the name, campers with a tent will also find it very helpful.
And don’t forget Roteiro Campista which I mentioned earlier. Here you can find a great map with lots of camping spots all over the country. Happy camping!

Red White Adventures
The ultimate guide to camping in portugal.
We were shocked at how camping-friendly Portugal is. Honestly. Whether you’re travelling by campervan, car and tent, or whatever, camping in Portugal is the bomb.
We travelled for two weeks by campervan around Portugal during the slow season and had the most amazing time. When you add sunny days, beautiful beaches, and good vibes together I guess it’s hard to not have a great time camping in a beautiful country like Portugal.
But how do you prepare for a trip like this?

Things you should know before camping in Portugal
One of the main reasons why camping in Portugal is so attractive to so many people is how safe Portugal is. You don’t really have to worry about dangerous animals or natural disasters, and Portugal is rated one of the safest countries in the world according to the Global Peace Index .
The only thing you might have to worry about is a sunburn during the summer months! Honestly, we’ve never felt safer while camping than we did camping in Portugal. Even during the slower months, it felt like there were always other campers around us which made it nice and comfortable.
Down below we share everything we learnt camping in Portugal and also places to stay during your trip around this beautiful country!
Best time to go camping in Portugal
From our own experience, mixed in with what other travellers have told us, it seems like late September to early October is one of the best times to go camping around Portugal.
During late September and early October, it is still relatively warm around the whole country. The ocean isn’t that cold because it’s had all summer to get warmed up. And our favourite part about camping at this time of year is that all campsites (free as well as paid), and all the places to visit are just significantly less touristy this time of year.
We actually camped around the Silver Coast of Portugal for almost two weeks in early November and the days were still warm. The thing that got us was the nights were quite cold. We were in one of Portugal By Van’s Fiat Ducatos and were still quite cold during the night.
So if you’re camping or in a campervan, keep in mind that it can get quite cold at night from October until late Spring. That’s why we think if you can go in late September that would be perfect. Places will still be busy but not too busy. You’ll be able to enjoy all the hikes, viewpoints, and other beautiful stops without all the tourists that the summer months bring.
Things to bring while camping in Portugal
Yeah, it happens and we always forget stuff. This list isn’t a packing list but more of a list of things you wouldn’t think of packing or might forget. It’s always a pain when you have to drive out of the way and pick up some stuff you could have got before. So hopefully this list will come in handy!
- Sunscreen! Probably one of the things you could use 365 days a year in Portugal since it’s always so sunny here! We love Sun Bum because of its environmentally friendly and water friendly ingredients.
- A kindle ! A part of camping and campervan life is just relaxing, hanging out, and reading a book somewhere beautiful right? We love our Kindle because it takes up almost no space.
- Propane tanks! If you’re close to a Decathlon then we’d recommend stocking up on a few because we haven’t found them anywhere else in Portugal.
- It never hurts to have a spare SD card for your camera . Almost everywhere you go you’ll feel like taking a million pictures and you might not have the time (or battery) to transfer them all over right away.
- Campervan levelers ! We actually didn’t have these but definitely one thing we should have considered while road tripping through Portugal.
- The bugs can get bad so it’s nice to have a deet-free bug spray handy whenever the bugs get bad.
- This isn’t just for camping but almost everywhere in Portugal we use a reusable filter water bottle . We love Lifestraw bottles and have been using ours all around the world and it has been great!
- Last but not least is a trusty power bank ! You may not have an electricity hookup or the campsite may not have electricity so it’s always good to have a power bank so your phone, camera, and anything else can get charged.
If you’re looking for a packing list for Portugal, drop your email below and get it sent straight to your inbox 🙂
Other things to consider while camping in Portugal
Now, there are three things we highly recommend you consider before embarking on your camping trip in Portugal, and those are:
- Make sure you have a valid driver’s licence for the entire duration of your trip. Depending on where you’re from, you might also need an international driver’s license. Check this before departure.
- Bring your passport . This might be a given, but we wanted to include it anyway. You will need this when you pick up your van and if anything were to happen to you. That brings us to point number 3:
- Travel insurance ! Make sure you’re insured while you’re on your trip – and check if that insurance covers the vehicle as well. If not, you might want to consider getting a good insurance with your rental van or for the van you buy.
If you don’t have travel insurance and you’re already travelling, you can consider signing up for SafetyWing’s Nomad Insurance .
Toll roads while driving in Portugal
Thankfully we live in a time where we can simply click “avoid toll roads” on google maps and our phone will reroute us to a toll free road. Most of the time the free roads do take longer but they are also the more scenic roads through the countryside and beautiful parts of Portugal.
When we did our Silver Coast road trip we didn’t use a toll road once and saved a ton of money. Saving money was definitely the priority but it also took us down some scenic coastal roads to places we wouldn’t have seen if we just took the paid highways the whole way.
So if you’re not in a rush then take the toll free roads and enjoy Portugal’s beauty!
How to find showers and toilets while camping in Portugal
There are a few things you can do for showers and toilets when it comes to camping in Portugal! If you’re free camping then most grocery stores, cafes, and restaurants will have free toilets you can use. Another great option is to buy a day pass to a gym/pool if you want to have a nice shower.
Almost all of the paid campsites like Ericeira Camping have showers, toilets, and laundry facilities in their campground. One thing we liked to do was stay 1-2 nights in a paid campsite and then 1-2 nights in a free/wild spot and keep switching up this way. It was a nice balance of freedom and being able to stay clean.
Staying connected to the Internet
Thankfully when it comes to 4G Portugal is quite good. If you’re camping along the Algarve or on the Silver Coast of Portugal you should almost always have signal. Unless you have an unlimited data plan you’re going to want some wifi hotspot so you can either get some work done while camping or have enough data to watch some Netflix!
Thankfully if you book with Portugal by Van they know wifi is a necessity nowadays being on the road they have the options to add a wifi hotspot to the van for a fee. Lets just say it’s 100% worth it to get it.
Charging all your gadgets while living in the Van
We had the same question before our first van trip around Portugal. Most campervans come with inverters where you can charge your devices while driving (so you don’t kill your car battery). Of course if you’re camped and plugged into electricity you can charge your gadgets while you’re parked.
Our favourite campsites in Portugal
After travelling up the Silver Coast of Portugal for a few weeks we have some amazing free camping spots along with some paid ones that we absolutely love. All of these campsites we found using Park4Night or Google Maps.
It’s quite easy to find campsites as there’s so much out there in regards to camping in Portugal. It really made our trip super easy to plan.
So here’s a list of some of our favourites!
Free Camping at Cabo da Roca – Most western campsite in Europe
Yes, you can camp in the Cabo da Roca camping lot but it comes with a bit of a catch. It is very windy and there is no bathroom available for you until 9 am in the morning!
Since we were already going to see the amazing sunset at Cabo Da Roca and also hike to Praia da Ursa we decided why not give it a go. It ended up working out great and in the morning we woke up to a few other campers next to us. We camped at Cabo Da Roca in early November so most tourists were long gone.
The best part of camping at Cabo Da Roca was in the morning when we got up we had almost the whole viewpoint to ourselves. After we got up, we went on a coastal hike from the lighthouse, and we basically had the whole Praia Da Ursa Beach to ourselves. It was absolutely amazing!
Things to know when camping at Cabo da Roca:
- There is a public toilet you can use for €.5 that is open from 9am-6pm
- Camping at Cabo Da Roca might be very busy during the summer months
- You can park your campervan or RV in the car park overnight. There will likely be a few other campervans doing the same thing.
- It’s quite safe but there have been stories of broken windows before and shattered glass in the carpark. Don’t leave valuables where people can see them.
- You can see more information about camping at Cabo Da Roca here .
Ericeira Camping – Favourite campsite in Portugal
We absolutely love Ericeira and the fact that Ericeira Camping turned out to be as good as it was made out time in Ericeira that much better. It’s affordable, clean, and close to the city. Plus the coastlines and the beaches in Ericeira are absolutely magical.
We actually looked for free campsites in Ericeira and actually found a few but then we realized for €12.5/night for the two of us we could have electricity, water, and a safe place to say we couldn’t say no to that.
Ericeira Camping is definitely within walking distance to the city and a few of the best beaches . So if you want you can leave everything inside the gated campsite and head to the city or for a surf. We also went to Surf 58 quite a few times which is a nice little coffee shop right next to the campsite.
You may even find this guide helpful, it’s a list of 20 fun things to do in Ericeira . If you’re looking for some outdoor adventure fun or recommendations to coffee shop, restaurants, and bars it’s all on there!
Things to know when camping at Ericeira Camping:
- It’s a gated campsite that has 24/7 security! Portugal is safe to begin with but this is definitely the safest campsite we’ve ever stayed at.
- The prices are different depending on the season but in November we paid €4/person a night for our camper van. You can see all the different prices for camping in Ericeira here .
- You can also hookup electricity and water to your camper van for a small fee (€4.5 per night).
- There’s also different options like log cabins as well if you want to stay in one of those for a night or two.
- They have water stations for filling up water and also dropping off waste water.
- One of the nice things is you can checkout as late as 9pm the following night.
- You can see more information about camping at Ericeira camping here .
Obidos Castle – Carpark with amazing views
We gotta say Park4Night did us wonders! There are so many great campsites on the app with actual recent reviews that explain the current state of the campsite. We found this cheap campsite there and it couldn’t have been more perfect.
The campsite itself is just a small little dirt patch turned into a little camper van car park but the views surrounding it are what made it special.
On one side you have the famous arches that connect with the walls of Obidos Castle. Then in the back, you can see Obidos Castle and when you get a nice sunset it’s incredible.
Even though it’s not free it’s a cool and super cheap place to park your camper van for a night or two while exploring Portugal. There was only one other camper van the night we were there but during the summer it gets quite busy.
Things to know when camping in Obidos:
- There is no public bathroom at the campsite but there are free public bathrooms down by the bus station, and up by the castle you can use. It’s definitely easier if you have a self-sustainable campervan.
- There is a water station where you can fill up water and drain your old water.
- In Obidos there is a main car park for tourists and visitors and the Obidos Camping car park is a few hundred meters behind the main one.
There is a €6 “honesty fee” for staying the night in the car park. Usually, someone will come in the morning and drop a little envelope on your dashboard. You can put the money into the envelope and drop it off in the little box next to the hut.
Free camping in Nazare by the waves
Again, another campsite we probably would not have stumbled upon without the help of all these apps. Seriously, who knew that Portugal is such a haven for free campsites. We love it!
But basically, this campsite is way at the end of Nazare right by the famous Nazare lighthouse where you can catch the humongous waves. It’s a small little car park right at the edge of Nazare but near everything where cars and camper vans can park.
The fact that we got a spot was quite lucky because even during the slow season it gets crazy busy with cars and camper vans because of the big waves.
To get this free camping spot in Nazare it will take a little bit of patience and luck. It’s totally worth it though because the sunsets next to the “campsite” are incredible and you’re also close to all the cafes, restaurants, and viewpoints.
Things to know when camping in Nazare:
- The campsite is free but there is usually a guy who helps navigate you to your spot. He’s sort of like a parking attendee and makes sure the car park is safe. So if he guides you into a spot maybe just tip him €1-2 to be in his good books! 😉
- There are no toilets, water stations, or dump stations here. It’s just your standard car park where camper vans also are allowed to stay!
- You can use the restrooms in the restaurants and cafes nearby when you go for food or coffee. But there is also a free bathroom where the funicular runs from. You can always go there if you need to. Google maps for the funicular bathroom here .
- Once you get your camper van spot try not to drive or move it if you don’t have to as it can be quite difficult to get a spot later.

Hi! Does the Nazare campsite have a name or do you have an address? thank you!
If you search Big Wave Viewpoint Nazere you will see the “camping spot”. Again it’s more of a carpack but there are plenty of people who stay overnight there in their self-contained campervans. You can also drive down to the beach on the other side where plenty of people also park up for the night.

Lisboa Camping & Bungalows
Portugal, lisbon and vale do tejo, lisbon, lisboa.
Alan Rogers Review of Lisboa Camping & Bungalows
Arriving at this large site in the suburbs of Lisbon, first impressions are good. Beyond the wide entrance with its ponds and fountains, the trees, lawns and flowering shrubs lead to the attractive swimming pool area. Positive impressions continue: on sloping ground, the site’s many terraces are well-shaded by trees and shrubs, and all 189 touring pitches are on concrete hardstandings with grass and a picnic table. All have 10A electricity connections, water and a drain.
There is a huge separate area for tents, and 70 chalet-style bungalows are for rent. Central Lisbon is easily reached by bus with a regular service from near the gate. There are shops, bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity, but most people probably prefer to hop on a bus and go into Lisbon.
There you can enjoy the vast choice of dining and retail opportunities the city has to offer, or you can simply wander round the historic streets, climb up to Castelo do São Jorge or join a tourist bus, which enables you to hop off and on again at any of Lisbon’s many historic and architectural sites A decent beach is a short drive away, with a wider choice of fine beaches further along the coast.

10 places to camp in Portugal
May 19, 2022, 9:26 a.m.
Enjoy Nature, with all it takes, and discover with us some of the best places to camp in Portugal. And the best part is that you don't necessarily have to sleep on the floor.
We set out to discover the best places to camp in Portugal and we must say that camping is no longer what it used to be. For the best reasons. From glamping to traditional camping , immerse yourself in the stunning natural landscapes that Portugal offers. Fall asleep with the stars and wake up to an endless number of activities that range from simply observing Nature to aquatic, extreme or gastronomic activities. Take a look at All About Portugal ’s list, from north to south of the country and which, of course, includes options for those who need comfort, glamour and even sophistication when on their vacation in Nature. You just have to choose where to camp!
Caminha Camping Park
When, in the 13th century, King Dinis, the “farmer” king, ordered the Mata Nacional do Camarido to be planted, he was far from imagining that in the 21st century this would house vacationers eager for contact with Nature. In addition to the pleasant shades of the pine forest, the Minho estuary and Caminha beach – just 200 meters away – invite you to bathe and enjoy water activities. If you want to broaden the range of action, in addition to a visit to the historic city of Caminha , explore the surroundings. The viewpoint of Santo Antão , in the magnificent Serra de Arga , and the picturesque village of Vilar de Mouros with its water mills and house of the oldest music festival in Portugal, will surprise you.
Entre Ambos-os-Rios Camping Park (Ponte da Barca)
Gerês is always an excellent excuse to pitch your tent, even if it's just for a few days. But if your vacation idea implies more comfort and less logistics, don't give up yet. Here you can also stay in Bungalows , which are a kind of tree house, or in Glamour Tents , which will make you feel as if you were in the setting of one of the “One Thousand and One Nights” stories, with the chirping of birds as the original soundtrack and the Lima River in the background. In addition to enjoying Nature and counting the stars to fall asleep, the park has activities for all tastes : dips in the river and in the natural lagoons, walks on officially signposted trails, guided e-bike, horse, buggy or car rides. 4×, Stand Up Paddle, canyoning, sport fishing licenses, among others.
Cerdeira Parking Park (Terras de Bouro)
We continue to the Peneda Gerês National Park, considered by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve . A reference for camping in Portugal, the Parque de Campismo de Cerdeira , located in the middle of the Reserve, offers two different experiences: cabins , which resemble mountain shelters, and tents in the trees , so you can sleep above the ground. The surroundings invite you to dive into Nature and to travel back in time: in addition to typical villages such as Campo do Gerês , discover Geira Romana or Mata da Albergaria , a Biogenetic Reserve. A mandatory stop, already in Spanish territory, are the Thermal Baths of Lobios , with warm waters in the open air, for a dip day or night, in summer or winter.
Idanha-a-Nova Camping Park
Portugal Inland Center is full of surprises and a perfect destination for camping in Portugal. If you like to do different things and escape the “fashionable” destinations, look no further. The Parque de Campismo Municipal de Idanha-a-Nova is located in the vicinity of the Marechal Carmona Dam , a natural paradise that promises special days of leisure and unforgettable dives, when the park's swimming pool no longer fills your needs. In addition to the practice of numerous sporting or recreational activities, in the area you will find beautiful landscapes, punctuated with castles in Idanha-a-Nova , Idanha-a-Velha , Penha Garcia and - known as “The Most Portuguese Village in Portugal” - Monsanto .
Carvalhais Biopark (São Pedro Do Sul)
Going on a family vacation and don't know where to camp? This Biopark is much more than a campsite. The pleasure of the fresh waters of Serra da Arada , which seem to flow directly from the mountain to the pool (a kind of Natural Aquatic Park), are one of the highlights of this place. Take a look at the wooden Bungalows located in the middle of the forest, with the best of both worlds: comfort and contact with Nature . Then there is a whole series of adventure activities, such as tree climbing (for kids and adults), climbing, rappelling on real rock or hiking, which will make you a “rebel” lover of adrenaline and Nature. We suspect that if you go with your children it will be difficult to bring them back home.
Ericeira Camping
Off-shore winds, versatile waves, several peaks… any surfer's dream, just like this campsite located less than two minutes from the typical fishing village of Ericeira , known as the national Surfing Mecca . In addition to traditional camping, you can choose to stay in bungalows or teepees , cozy wooden constructions, inspired by the tents of the North American Indians and designed especially for surf lovers. They have capacity for two people and are equipped with supports ideal for placing boards. The Surf School is the icing on the cake for fans of this extreme sport!
Bubulcus & Bolotas Camping (Arraiolos)
Tânia (Biologist) and Waldemar (Forest Engineer) are passionate about Nature and had a dream: to create a space where Nature and tranquility could be truly experienced . And so, in the Alentejo countryside, Bubulcus & Bolotas Camping was born, an ecological campsite, based on the fundamentals of sustainability in all its aspects and with a pioneer typology for camping in Portugal: each guest has privacy and space around them . There are balls, wooden rackets, badminton, basketball, pétanque and, of course, the diving tank. You can also discover plants and animals, with the field guide, and if you are a fan of bird watching, you are in the right place.
Zambujeira Camping Park
Camping Villa Park Zambujeira is located in Zambujeira do Mar , a small fishing paradise by the sea, which in the summer, especially on the dates of the music festival that made it known, becomes one of the most popular places on the Alentejo coast. From here, you can explore more than 50 beaches with wild sand – and some even secret –, crystal clear waters and imposing rock formations. The gastronomy will not leave you indifferent either: from fresh fish, to seafood, including black pork and, of course, the Alentejo bread! And coriander, lots of coriander… on everything!
Camping Ilha do Pessegueiro (Porto Covo)
Inserted in the Alentejo South-west and Costa Vicentina Natural Park , and with views of the Pessegueiro Island , a source of inspiration for legends and stories, this campsite has a perfect location. With a coast rich in desirable beaches, for all tastes and shapes, it is an excellent destination for those who iodine, sun and sand on their vacation . You wil fall in love by Porto Covo at first sight, a cozy fishing village a few kilometers away, and it will also grab you by the stomach: sit on one terraces in the main square and delight yourself with some of the Alentejo gastronomic specialties, enjoying the sunset, after a “tiring” day of diving.
Camping Ria Formosa (Cabanas de Tavira))
Located in Cabanas de Tavira , in the east of the Algarve, the best calling card of this campsite is its proximity to a natural paradise: the Ria Formosa Natural Park , an area of international importance , and a labyrinth of channels, islands, salt marshes and sandbanks, along 60 kilometers of the coast of this region. The boat crossings, to the beach, will be part of your daily routine, a means of transport as used in this area as the metro in a large urban center, but much more pleasant, by the way! If you visit the area, point out two obligatory destinations: Cacela Velha and Fábrica , two calm and charming villages, that will stay in your memory forever.
