Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park is a complex of historic sites on the Siksika 146 Indian Reserve near Cluny Alberta.  This crossing of the Bow River was traditionally a bison-hunting and gathering place for the Siksika.

The tour includes the bus trip to the Blackfoot Crossing Historical Site, a guided tour of the museum. lunch at the venue including tea/coffee all gratuities.  After lunch we will have a Storyteller who will speak about legends of their ancestors, the war they experienced with other tribes, how some of their people got their names and stories of how young men become brave warriors.  Weather permitting, there will be an opportunity to explore outside.

The cost of the trip is $75.

TRIP REGISTRATION

Registrations for bus tours now use the Online Registration System, which lets you register yourself and member friends, provide your license plate number ,  and pay for your bus tours, all online.  Parking for bus trips is the the Deerfoot Inn and Casino in the lot south of the hotel.  

To see details on a trip, click on the big green button for the trip when it is shown. 

If registration is open , you can enter your FLC membership number , then add a car license number and a comment if needed. Use the comments to advise any special dietary or allergy issues.  If there are options for lunch, please indicate your options in the comment section.

• If you are registered on the 'active' list, you can pay securely by using your credit card.
• If you are registered on the 'wait' list, you will receive an email inviting you to pay if space becomes available, or an email cancelling your registration if there is no space available.

You must have a current FLC membership to register for any of our trips.   You can find information about buying or renewing an FLC Seniors Club membership by clicking here .

Note all bus trips, except Rosebud Theatre, involve some walking; wear appropriate footwear. 

CANCELLATION POLICY:  

• Cancel up to 6 days after the day registration opens for a full refund (e.g. if registration opens Monday, you must cancel by Sunday end of day).
• Cancellations after day 6 until registration closes will receive a refund minus $25.
• Cancellations after registration closes will not receive a refund, as Bus Tours must confirm attendance at the event and make the final payment which is non refundable.

• Bus tours for 2024 are in the planning stage. Our first bus tour will be in April to the Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park.  We will do the usual two trips to the Rosebud Theatre, one in June to see Little Women and one in December.  We are also considering a visit to the Lethbridge Japanese Gardens, the Danish Canadian Museum along with the Markervillle Creamery, and the Scandinavian Trail along with the RCMP Dog Training Service Centre.

Tour - Too long a first day and a lot of back tracking throughout. Guide - changed three times in 7 days. Some knowledgeable others not communicative. Transportation - coach with non functioning rest room / small uncomfortable bus that air conditioning failed. Communication - not enough information about times/activities daily. Activities/opportunities - long drive to Buffalo Paddock to see a few brown dots in the distance.

Canada's Rockies (Base, 8 Days)

Let me state from the outset that our Journey through the Clouds on board of Rocky Mountaineer was a very pleasant experience. We would definitely recommend it to a friend. (And we already have!). However, this review is focused on the areas that need improvement. It starts with a mess. The train terminal in Vancouver is obviously not equipped for the number of passengers waiting to board the train. There is a severe shortage of chairs. The chairs or sofas that are there are more suited for a large dentist office, not for the train terminal. The poor passengers, most of them in their 50’s and 60’s are searching helplessly around for something to sit on. In the meantime all the management has to do is visit any airport boarding gate. The solution there is vivid and simple. Our departure was festive and joyous. The entire staff of Rocky Mountaineer lined up to wave us goodbye. But then, I discovered myself sitting at the very end of the car next to a big man. I couldn’t see my wife and daughter sitting in the row in front of me on those bulky but not very comfortable chairs. My neighbor and I found ourselves embarrassingly jostling for the elbow space. As I said, the seats are massive but are not as comfortable as those designed for the long-haul airline flights. While transcontinental flights take 12-14 hours, here, passengers will sit in their seats for 2 – 3 days. I complained and they moved us to another car where we were sitting much closer upfront and I was seated in the same raw as my family. We have made this reservation a year in advance. One would think that having made it so early we should have had better seating arrangements. A little more consideration for the family members, a little extra consideration for those who signed up first and finally a better software allowing people to change their seats (just like the airlines) would go a long way. Finally, let me address the major problem: inadequate dining room and kitchen facilities. Because there is a severe shortage of restaurant tables combined with an acute shortage of kitchen facilities we, the passengers are divided into two groups. Half of the car has breakfast at 9, the second – at 11. Likewise lunch: one group eats at 12, the other at 2 PM. The shortage of dining cars aside, the kitchen is very small and can’t keep up with the dining room demand. So, by the time I get my breakfast I am on the fourth cup of coffee and even that is already cold. This presents a particularly big problem with lunch. Usually, I go to bed early and get up early (4 AM). So, if I finish my lunch at 4 PM, I will not be ready to eat dinner at 7. Because I refuse to go to bed with a full stomach, if I don’t start dinner by 6:30 – 7, I will not eat dinner that day at all. That said the quality of food aboard the train was excellent. My compliments to the Chef and his team! Coming from me it’s a big compliment. I am a foodie and would routinely travel anywhere for good food, be it Lion or Bologna. To summarize, Rocky Mountaineer is worth the money. It’s a great way to spend a vacation. Even your teenagers would like it. Yet, there is a lot to improve. Being from the US, I hope that soon someone would take this idea to the US Rockies and make a fortune.

The lobstick hotel was not as clean as expected. It access bringing the bags was difficult having to carry up suitcases up the stairs needs a ramp.

Canadian Rockies Express

Itinerary was great, scenery was beautiful, and our guide was fun. I was the only male in the group with my wife and 11 other females and it worked out fine. Everyone was very congenial, and the diversity of the group added to the experience. Only thing I would change would be the accommodations in Vancouver. While the hotel was fine it was very far from the downtown and sights, so we spent most of our time the last day in the van in traffic. Overall, it was a fantastic trip.

Truly stunning mountain scenery through the Rockies to Vancouver with guest appearances from bears, elk, eagles and gophers! A well paced and organised trip led by an excellent guide Sibylle. Travelling in style on the Rocky Mountaineer was a memorable experience, even though we were in Silver Leaf. A class operation. A minor gripe that there was so little time at the end of the tour in Vancouver and Vancouver Island, luckily we added a couple of extra nights in Vancouver to explore the city.

Active Canadian Rockies Adventure

Most amazing views! Spectacular sites, wonderful hikes and hitting so many beautiful locations in one trip. Food, however was very lack luster and was clearly chosen to save money. Bring your own granola bars and maybe some protein powder to add to your oatmeal at breakfast and you should be good for a week.

I really enjoyed my hiking trip in the Canadian Rockies. Our guides Marianne and Catherine did a fantastic job with the execution of the trip. The food, getting us going in the morning and sticking to the plan allowed everyone to have a great time! I highly recommend this hiking itinerary. The only thing that I would address is the location of the camp sites. One camp site had a generator on 24 hours a day and another had a train track very close to our camp site and both sites kept me awake at night. Quite frankly my personal residence that sits in a urban area is MUCH more quiet than anything I experienced while camping.

This trip was the best experience of my life so far! My CEO Melanie was so amazing, I felt so at ease and happy throughout every step of the tour. This is the perfect trip to see some of Canada. 100000/10 would recommend to everyone!

Thank you Geoff (guide) and Andrew (driver) for a pleasant four day trip from Vancouver to the Canadian Rockies. My partner and I landed in Vancouver from Sydney, Australia and the following day wale embarked on our tour. We were so relieved that we chose the bus tour over self-driving as we were extremely jet lagged. We had a chance to recover on the first day which was largely spent on the bus travelling. The sights and experiences that we had on the tour were unforgettable. Thank you for enriching the experience with interesting, up to date and sometimes funny commentary throughout, Geoff. I definitely recommend adding the Ice Explorer option to your ticket. FYI the rate that the tour charged to add it on was much less than the advertised fee. We got to all our locations safely and on time, we even snuck in an extra stop in Jasper which wasn’t included on the itinerary because the weather normally isn’t permitting (but the day of our tour it was!). Overall I highly recommend this tour. It wasn’t crammed, but it certainly was a full itinerary and I felt like there was great balance between group activities and free time to explore.
