But do you really want to return home and discover that you missed something because you didn't know about it ahead of time? We encourage you to treat yourself to the freedom of touring. We plan ahead so you don’t have to worry about the details.

Throughout its 98 years as a family-run operation, Collette has built a team of experts who are passionate about making travel a part of everyone’s life.

Decisions about travel shouldn’t be taken lightly. So we have put together a short guide to point you in the right direction of experiencing the benefits of touring. Sometimes, it’s just great to be able to ask yourself a few questions in order to arrive at your destination. Of course, feel free to call us anytime with questions.

Start by making a list of factors that might help to weed out certain locations. Here are some questions to get you started:

  • What is the first place that pops into your mind?
  • Have you ever created a bucket list?
  • Are there specific regions you enjoy frequenting because of weather?
  • Are architecture and history more important than beaches and sun?
  • What types of cuisine do you enjoy?

Have you considered what type of tour you’re looking for? Collette offers a variety of product lines and tour types.

Do you have only a few days, or do you have the opportunity to travel for months at a time? You might consider a trip closer to home if you only have a few days. Traveling to Australia and New Zealand takes a bit longer to get there, so you’ll want to take this into account.

Consider what dates work best in your schedule. Also think about the best time of year to visit a particular location.

We look forward to showing you the world!

Tour Activity Level

The activity level for this tour:

You’re a leisurely traveler. You typically take it easy and discover the energy of a new place by people-watching or soaking in the atmosphere at a local café. You can climb at least one flight of stairs, board a coach, and walk unassisted at a relaxed pace for up to 60 minutes without difficulty. You can easily handle altitudes up to 5,000 feet.

You like a balanced approach to travel. Walking two to three miles over the course of a day is no problem for you. You can partake in a two-hour leisurely walking tour, covering up to two miles (with included breaks). You can handle a variety of terrains, from cobblestone streets to moderate hills with relative ease and without assistance. You can climb two flights of stairs with ease. There may be 1 to 2 days on this tour when walking tours can cover 3 to 4 miles over uneven terrain. You can handle altitudes up to 6,000 feet.

You’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. Expect some longer days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. This level is not a fit for travelers who require mobility assistance devices.

You’re ready to seize the day, whatever it may bring. You lead an active life at home (walking, biking, and half or full day hikes are things you may enjoy) and 10,000 steps a day is normal for you. You can handle longer walking tours (more than 3 hours covering 3+ miles at a steady clip) and activities that involve traversing uneven terrain, steep slopes, standing for periods of time, and varying altitudes and temperatures. You don’t mind being on the go with some early starts, late-nights, and full days. You can handle altitudes of 9,000 feet or higher with little to no issue. This level is not appropriate for travelers who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility assistance devices.

Collette adds 10 new tours for 2025

April 5, 2024

colette travel kit

Collette has launched 10 new tours coming in 2025.

The tours will span across four continents with destinations in North America, South America, Europe, and Africa and will also feature three of Collette’s five travel styles, Classic, Cruising, and small group Explorations.

“We value our travellers’ feedback and used that to put together these exciting new experiences in 2025. Collette wants to show travellers more of what they’re looking to see,” said Jaclyn Leibl-Cote, chief executive officer at Collette. “We’re always looking for new ways for our travellers to explore the world. Not only do we do that, but we add variety in our travel styles. Building new Classic, Cruising, and Explorations tours helps keep things fresh for all travellers.”

New tours for 2025

The following tours will be available for booking, starting in 2025:

  • Greece is a destination where crowds have been booming. Collette has designed a tour where travellers will experience two quieter islands: Crete and Naxos.
  • Namibia’s vast desert scenery and rugged landscape make it a unique destination for any traveller looking to explore lesser known southwest Africa. Those who are hungry for adventure will love embarking on big game drives and visiting a shipwreck on the outskirts of the Skeleton Coast.
  • Portugal is a consistent hot spot for travel – beautiful beaches, hillside towns, food, wine, culture and more. That’s why Collette is adding a Portugal tour to the lineup for 2025 that visits three top destinations Douro Valley, Alentejo, and Lisbon.
  • Collette’s The Balkans: from Coastal Croatia to Legendary Greece Tour will span across 5 different Balkan countries, including Albania. Albania has seen a major rise in traveller interest over the past few years and Collette is excited to head there for the first time.
  •  Visiting eight countries in 13 days, “Europe: The Grand Tour” is perfect for travellers who are looking to venture into Eastern European culture, history, and food.
  • Mendoza is the heart of Argentina’s wine country and a travel destination. Many people don’t know it’s actually a desert region. Collette has designed a tour that visits Mendoza coming soon in 2025 – Essential South America featuring Chile, Mendoza Wine Region & Buenos Aires.
  • Collette is combining the breathtaking views of the Western Canadian Rockies with the beautiful landscapes of Alaska’s inside passage. This tour is perfect for travellers who love cruising and getting around via the railways.
  • Collette is adding yet another National Park destination to its catalogue. Travellers can now explore Sequoia National Park with the “Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks” tour.
  • Collette’s “Shades of The English Countryside” tour aims to give travellers a taste of some of England’s prettiest places to live. Travellers will head off of the beaten path to southern England and experience some of the British Countryside, quaint villages, and vibrant market towns.
  • After an amazing train trip on Rocky Mountaineer from Denver to Moab, travellers will trek across the Southwest as they take in the sienna-colored canyons, towering spires, and desert landscapes found in Utah’s five national parks.

Hometown Hero: Mary Colette Coyne inspired to fight skin cancer after daughter's death

Mary Colette Coyne founded the Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign...

Mary Colette Coyne founded the Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign after her daughter's death. Credit: Thomas H. Coyne

When Mary Colette Coyne’s daughter died less than six months after her diagnosis with melanoma in 1998, she believed there had to be a higher reason.

“I believed there was a purpose; I felt it was not by accident,” Coyne, 88, said of the death of her 30-year-old daughter, Colette.

The New Hyde Park resident found that purpose just four months later, when she created the Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness Campaign, which strives to increase public awareness of the dangers and causes of skin cancer. Since its inception 25 years ago, the nonprofit has raised more than $200,000 and hosted events ranging from free cancer screenings at local beaches to an annual charity walk called Miles for Melanoma.

Coyne also became a passionate proponent of legislation to prevent minors from using tanning beds, which can increase the risk of developing skin cancer by 75% among those who start using them before age 35, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. In 2005, her efforts led to Nassau County passing the Colette Coyne Skin Cancer Prevention measure, which prohibited the use of tanning beds by minors without parental consent, Coyne said.

Shortly thereafter, Suffolk County passed the similar Colette Coyne Melanoma Awareness law. State legislators then passed a law in 2012 prohibiting anyone under 17 from using commercial tanning beds, which was followed in 2018 by legislation prohibiting anyone under 18 from using tanning beds.

“I’ve read about people who say they don’t care about skin cancer; they’d rather be ugly when they’re old and beautiful and tan when they’re young,” Coyne said. “I want to say to them that you may not live to get old if you continue with tanning beds, because they are so detrimental.”

One campaign member who praised Coyne’s efforts is Corey Eisner, whose wife, Mary Ann, died after what he called “a fierce battle” with melanoma more than 20 years ago. Eisner, of Levittown, recalled Coyne showing up at his wife’s wake despite him having never met her before.

“She learned that my wife had passed of melanoma and came to offer her condolences and to talk to me about the disease,” Eisner said. “She is a one-of-a-kind person. She drew me into the organization because of her desire to educate people on Long Island about the dangers of skin cancer, which I was total unaware of until my wife became ill.”

Donald Gleason, of Stewart Manor, survived a diagnosis of Stage 3 melanoma in 2005 and is also a member of Coyne’s organization. He occasionally visits local schools to speak about sun safety.

“She’s extremely determined,” Gleason said of Coyne. “She’s a wonderful person and she’s done a fabulous amount for the community.”

The campaign’s next walk will take place at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow on May 11. Those interested in participating or making a donation can visit the campaign’s website at ccmac.org . Attendees can also receive a free examination from a volunteering dermatologist.
