Ancient Greeks invented the theatre with most cities having a theatre – some of which had capacity for up to 15,000 people.

• The first “modern” Olympic Games were held in the Greek capital Athens in 1896.
• Around one-third of the entire Greek population currently lives in Athens, but that represents just 1% of its total land area.
• Greece’s highest mountain Mount Olympus in the north of the mainland was claimed to be the “home of the gods” in ancient Greek religion.
• Around 80% of the country is mountainous while 50% of Greece’s land is covered by forests.

Greece’s temperatures soar to well over 30C in the summer months of July and August. This is also the most crowded time of year. Temperatures are more moderate (mid 20Cs) in May-June and September-October, as well as being quieter. Greece’s climate means it is not known as a winter-sun destination but Athens is a good option for a city break year-round.

The Greek capital is one of the largest cities in Europe with a population of around four million. Athens has a history dating back 5,000 years and the skyline is dominated by the Acropolis and its monuments, including the magnificent Parthenon temple. Another must-see is the nearby Acropolis Museum, which only opened in 2009, to view fascinating archaeological artefacts. Other historic sites are dotted around the city, while the Plaka area is packed with shops, bars and restaurants. Syntagma Square is the centre of modern Athens and is home to the Royal Palace, where the Greek parliament sits.

Peloponnese

The southern part of the mainland, lying to the south of Athens, features some of the most important sites in ancient Greek mythology including Mycenae, Pylos and Epidaurus, which is still home to a well-preserved ancient theatre. The region is also home to Olympia, which hosted the ancient Olympic games for 1,000 years. The peninsula features many pretty beaches around its coastline while hiking trails through gorges and caves make the Peloponnese ideal for a varied touring holiday.

Greece’s largest island in the far south of the Aegean sea often thinks of itself as a country in its own right. The major two headline attractions are the Bronze Age historic site Knossos, near Heraklion, and the Samaria Gorge in the south of Crete. The island benefits from having two gateway airports at Heraklion and Chania. The major beach resorts are located around the largest city Heraklion in the east, while quieter areas can found around Chania on the western side. To escape the crowds completely, head to the sparsely populated south of the island.

Ionian islands

This group of seven islands off the western coast of the Greek mainland is headlined by the long-time tourist destination and gateway of Corfu, as well as beautiful Kefalonia. The group also includes Zakynthos, Lefkada and Ithaca. The islands are known for their clear blue waters, rugged coastlines, lush vegetation and forested mountains.

Cyclades islands

The headline attraction within this group of southern Aegean islands is Santorini with its spectacular volcanic cliffs and rock formations including the submerged caldera - the remains of an old crater and one of the most photographed sights in Greece. Mykonos has white-washed buildings and traditional windmills, but is also well known as a party island and for being more expensive than its neighbours, which include quieter options such as Naxos, Paros and Milos.

Dodecanese islands

Rhodes is the main draw of these islands on the eastern side of the Aegean. Rhodes has a rich history that can be seen in the medieval castle, ancient walls and old city of Rhodes Town, as well as the acropolis and archaeology of Lindos. Other smaller Dodecanese islands include Patmos, Samos, Kos and Symi.

In the north-west of the Aegean lie the Sporades islands – only four of which are inhabited: Alonnisos, Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros. The islands are renowned for their beautiful beaches, forests and offering some of the best diving and snorkelling in Greece. The region is also home to the Alonissos Marine Park.

Greece is renowned for its food and drink with classic dishes such as grilled souvlaki kebabs, moussaka and lamb kleftiko featuring on many menus. Seafood is another speciality including delicacies such as octopus, lobster and squid (calamari). The country is equally famed for its drinks such as the spirits Ouzo and locally brewed raki, which is normally served at the end of meals. Retsina is a traditional resinated wine that has been produced for more than 2,000 years, while more traditional red and white wines are also widely available.

Greek people are very proud of their history and culture, and also of their own individual region or island. Religion still plays a major role in Greek society with the vast majority of the population belonging to the Greek Orthodox church. Easter week is one of the most important times of the year with a series of celebrations culminating with fireworks on Easter Sunday. Greeks are very hospitable, so expect a warm welcome wherever you go. They particularly appreciate it if you try to use a few words of Greek or are willing to join in a traditional dance or celebration.

As befits a nation with so many islands and coastlines, many of Greece’s wildlife experiences centre on sea life. Alonissos Marine Park is the largest protected marine area in Europe and is home to several species of dolphin and whale, as well as the monk seal and abundant birdlife. Zakynthos also has a marine reserve which includes endangered loggerhead sea turtles who lay their eggs on the island’s beaches. Elsewhere, Cretan ibex may be spotted in the Samaria National Park and Rhodes attracts thousands of butterflies every May. Otters, wild boars and even wolves can be seen in the Nestos Delta on the north-east of the mainland.

Few countries can match Greece’s ancient history, which dates back to 1900BC and saw the country invent democracy as a political concept. The Greeks were also responsible for creating the original ancient Olympic Games nearly 3,000 years ago. The country’s modern history dates from the 1820s when it became independent of Turkey’s Ottoman Empire. After occupation by the Germans during the Second World War, the country then endured a civil war until 1949. Greece joined the European Community in 1981 but has faced years of economic hardship in recent years.

    day 1 - welcome to athens,     day 2 - guided city tour - visit the acropolis and the museum.

Today, we go on a guided tour of Athens, we visit to the Acropolis, the crowning beauty and glory of Ancient Athens, the awesome Parthenon, the Propylea, the temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion, with its Porch of Maidens. Next, we drive to the Roman Temple of Olympic Zeus, the Panathinaikon Stadium (site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896), and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament House on Constitution Square. Then we drive along Panepistimiou Avenue and view the Catholic Cathedral, the Academy, University, and National Library. Later, you can enjoy free time at Plaka. Overnight in Athens.(B, D)

   Day 3 - Athens – Mykonos – Paradise Beach

Today, we proceed to the Port of Athens to board the Ferry to Mykonos Island – the most famous Greek island and one of the world’s most popular holiday resorts. The totally whitewashed houses and blue domed Churches fit closely together to form a one of the kind maze of narrow alleys and streets. On arrival, proceed on orientation tour of Mykonos. See the Panagia Paraportiani church and the monastery of Panagia Tourliani. Evening is free to explore beautiful beaches, and a spectacular sunset on own. Overnight in Mykonos. (B, D)

   Day 4 - Mykonos – Santorini

Today, after breakfast, we proceed to Mykonos port to take the High-Speed ferry to Santorini. On arrival, we check-in to the hotel. Later, we spend some free time at Kamari Beach, and then proceed to Fira, the beautiful capital of the island and the biggest and most cosmopolitan settlement of Santorini. Enjoy a walking tour followed by some free time at Fira. Overnight in Santorini. (B, D)

   Day 5 - 9D Atlantis Show and Museum + Santo winery (Optional) – Tour of Santorini

Today, the morning is free to relax or you have a chance to enjoy a 9D Atlantis Show and Museum + Santo winery (Optional). Later, we proceed on a half day Santorini island tour to the Center of the island and on the highest point where you will visit the hidden gems of the area. We will see the charming Megalochori village, a labyrinth of winding alleys, whitewashed houses, and blue-domed churches with ornate bell towers. We also see the 16th century Monastery of Prophet Elias which was built on the highest point of the Island 567 meters above sea level, from where you will have a panoramic view of the whole island village of Pyrgos. Next stop will be the traditional village of Oia which is on the northern tip of the island, high on the cliff top. Overnight in Santorini. (B, D)

   Day 6 - Santorini – Athens – Delphi - Archaeological Site and Museum

   day 7 - meteora (visit 2 monasteries) – athens.

After continental breakfast, proceed to Meteora. Few kilometers northwest of the town of Kalabaka, the impressive rocks of Meteora are rising from the plains of Thessaly been one of the most amazing places in Greece. The Greek word Meteora means “suspended in the air” and this phrase aptly describes these remarkable Greek Orthodox monasteries. We visit 2 of the 14thcentury ethereal monasteries, situated above the unique and dramatic landscape of naturally formed high rocks. Later drive back to Athens. Overnight in Athens. (B, D)

   Day 8 - Return back home with pleasant memories!

Today, we proceed to the airport on your own for your flight back home.Kindly spare a few minutes to share your feedback with your Tour Manager. Your valued suggestions will be most appreciated. Arrive home with pleasant memories of your Europe tour, which we are sure you will treasure for a lifetime. (B) Note: In major cities like Athens, there are parking restrictions for coaches and it is not possible to stop at all the places during the city tour. Tour Manager will try his/her best to stop the coach wherever possible for a photo stop.

SIGHTSEEING

• On certain departures, we may sometimes amend / reverse the itinerary. However, all the services / inclusions will remain the same.
• Generally, you will have to walk at sightseeing places, amusement parks and at the airports sometimes for a long distance; however the same will be timely instructed by the Tour Manager. It is advisable to carry good pair of comfortable sports shoes. The tour manager and the driver will do their best to get you as close to the monuments as possible.
• There are a few attractions and entrances that are currently closed due to COVID and in case the same remain closed at the time of the groups visiting, a refund will be provided.

Ticketing Requirements

For this tour you would require confirmed air tickets to arrive into London and depart from Glasgow/ Edinburgh or Manchester. It would be advisable to check with Thomas Cook sales officer or local travel agent before issuing your air tickets

IMPORTANT NOTES:

• All hotels will be either around the airport area or in the outskirts.
• Most hotels in Europe have only Twin beds. Double bed will be Queen size and not King size.
• As a 3rd person in a triple room, most hotels use rollaway beds and room size may be the same as the double room.
• For Child with bed: At times hotel don’t have enough roll away beds, in that case they might give a double and a separate single room.
• A person 12 years and below is considered a child and above 12 years, an adult.
• Hotel rooms may not be air conditioned / air cooled nor will fans be provided. Air conditioning / cooling in hotels are set as per European weather conditions.
• Functioning of Air cooling / Air conditioning in hotels is subject to official declaration of summer by the local authority.
• During heat wave in Europe air conditioning of the hotels and coaches may cease to function as they are not built for such high temperatures.
• Most hotels in Europe do not provide tea kettles in the rooms.
• Due to international events and trade fairs all throughout Europe such as Air Show, music festivals, ice skating championships etc., you may have to stay in hotels further away from the city.
• Any damages caused to the hotel rooms / Coach during your stay, shall be payable by the passengers.
• We also reserve the right to substitute a hotel of similar class if it is deemed advisable or necessary.
• In certain cities hotels have not started the buffet breakfasts yet and if the same does not change by the time the tours begin, we will either provide breakfast or the groups will be taken to an Indian / local restaurant for breakfast.
• Most of your journey in Europe is by coach and hence you are requested to keep the coach clean.
• Due to hygienic reasons it is not permitted to use toilets in the coach. However the tour manager will make comfort stops during long drives.
• Eating & drinking is not permitted in the coach.
• One check in bag and one hand bag per person only, due to limited boot space in the coach.
• In major European cities, there are parking restrictions for coaches and it may not be possible to stop at all the places during the city tour. Tour Manager will try his/her best to stop coach wherever possible for a photo stop.
• Coaches are non-wheelchair compliant. There are steps to board / alight from the coach.
• Due to private coaches being forbidden inside most of the European cities; as per EU norms to preserve them and to avoid getting them polluted and overcrowded, most of your sightseeing will be done by local buses and by foot.
• In case any member of the group tests positive for COVID-19, customers will need to unconditionally abide, adhere and comply solely at your costs and expenses to all laws, rules, notifications, Travel advisories, guidelines, directives and communications issued from time to time by all or any Governments, Authorities, Ministries, Departments, Local Bodies in India or Abroad, related to your tour to the foreign destination and/or on your return from the tour to your home destination in India or Abroad including but not limited to Covid-19 Protocols on quarantine, vaccinations etc. or in connection with any other Pandemic, epidemic, disease, condition etc., which may be communicated by all or any Governments, Authorities, Ministries, Departments, Local Bodies in India or Abroad with or without notice at any point of time whether at the commencement of the tour, during the tour and/or on the completion of the tour, as the case may be”.
• On some occasions you may have to join another group in case the group does not have adequate members.
• A local representative or a driver may only be there to assist you during your initial part of the tour.
• Security alerts and random closures might affect the itinerary.
• Please take extra care of your personal belongings while on the tour, every country you travel to is prone to thefts and bag snatching. TCIL will not be liable for any loss of belongings / baggage.
• Disabled clients should carry their own wheelchair and should be accompanied by a qualified companion who is able to provide assistance to the disabled client.
• TCIL shall not accept any liability or responsibility for any damages, loss, baggage loss, theft, injury, accident, death, breakdown or irregularity, which may occur in carrying out the tour arrangement, weather conditions, strikes, war, quarantine and any other cause whatsoever and all such loss or expense must be borne by the passengers. Insurance policies must be carried while on tour.
• The management reserves the right to claim any additional expenses incurred due to delay or changes in schedules of train, airplane, bus, ship or other services.
• The Tour Manager and the company reserves the right to amend the itinerary, alter, vary or withdraw any particular departure, excursion advertised. For the convenience of our passengers, we will sometimes amend the itinerary. However, all the services will remain the same.
• There are no refunds for any services i.e. meals, sightseeing etc. not utilized on your tour
• All optional activities will have to be booked and paid to the Tour Manager on Day 01 of the tour. Payments to be made by cash in GBP only. (Credit or Debit cards not accepted).

    Day 2 - Visit the Acropolis and the Museum – City Tour

Today, we go on a guided tour of Athens, we visit to the Acropolis, the crowning beauty and glory of Ancient Athens, the awesome Parthenon, the Propylea, the temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion, with its Porch of Maidens. Next, we drive to the Roman Temple of Olympic Zeus, the Panathinaikon Stadium (site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896), and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament House on Constitution Square. Later we drive along Panepistimiou Avenue and view the Catholic Cathedral, the Academy, University, and National Library. Overnight in Athens. (B, D)

   Day 3 - Athens – Mykonos

Today, we proceed to the Port of Athens to board the Ferry to Mykonos Island – the most famous Greek island and one of the world’s most popular holiday resorts. The totally whitewashed houses and blue domed Churches fit closely together to form a one of the kind maze of narrow alleys and streets. On arrival, proceed on orientation tour of Mykonos. See the Panagia Paraportiani church and the monastery of Panagia Tourliani. Evening is free to explore beautiful beaches, and a spectacular sunset on own. Overnight in Mykonos. (B, LD)

Today, after breakfast, we proceed to Mykonos port to take the High-Speed ferry to Santorini. On arrival in Santorini, transfer to the hotel for check in. Overnight in Santorini. (B,LD)

   Day 5 - Santorini

Today, we proceed on a half day Santorini island tour to the Center of the island and on the highest point where you will visit the hidden gems of the area. The Monastery of Prophet Elias from there you will have a panoramic view of the whole island, village of Pyrgos. Next stop will be the traditional village of Oia which is on the northern tip of the island, high on the cliff top. Overnight in Santorini. (B,LD)

   Day 6 - Santorini – Athens

   day 7 - fly back home with pleasant memories.

Today, we proceed to the airport for your flight back home. Kindly spare a few minutes to share your feedback with your Tour Manager. Your valued suggestions will be most appreciated. VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR TRAVELLING FROM UAE TO GREECE

Uae citizens.

UAE citizens do not require a Greece visa if they visit the country for 90 days or less. For stays longer than 90 days, they can apply for a long-term “national visa” or a short-term “Schengen visa.”

However, starting in November 2023, there will be modifications to the visa-free travel to Europe policy. To enter any of the Schengen nations, all visa-exempt citizens—including Emirati nationals—will need to register with ETIAS.

It’s essential to note that European Travel Information and Authorisation System is not a visa but a visa waiver programme for visa-exempt non-EU citizens.

Valid for three years, the ETIAS short application form will be available online. The applicant will be notified via email, and the approved visa waiver will be electronically connected to their passport.

Once the form is complete and verified, it will allow you to visit all Schengen States. However, it’s essential that passengers go through the country selected as the first point of entry, in this case, Greece. Make sure to apply for the form 96 hours before your journey.

Within this three-year time limit, UAE citizens can visit Greece multiple times for up to 90 days (each entry) for tourism, transit, business, family and medical treatment.

The ETIAS form will cost €7 (AED 25). Travellers under the age of 18 and over the age of 70 will be exempted from paying a fee.

UAE RESIDENTS

Foreigners living in UAE on a residence permit (nationals of any of the countries that do not have a visa-free policy with the Schengen countries) will require a visa to travel to Greece. Travellers planning a short-term visit to Greece can apply for Schengen Visa.

APPLY FOR SCHENGEN VISA

Here is the procedure for applying for a visa to travel from UAE to Greece:

• Download the Application Form and fill it in with all the required information. Print and sign the copies.
• Schedule a time to visit a Visa Application Center to get your fingerprints and photo taken.
• Pay the fee at the Visa Application Centre
• Attend the visa interview. Take all required documents with you.
• You will receive an email about your visa application. Alternatively, you can track your application status online by using the Reference Number mentioned on the receipt issued by the Visa Application Centre.
• Collect your passport from the Visa Application Centre.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

Schengen Visa Application Requirements for UAE Residents are as follows:

• Application Form
• Passport (Not older than 10 years and with a validity of at least three months)
• Two photos (Not older than three months and that meet the requirements of the Schengen states)
• Proof of residence permit in UAE (Valid for at least 3 months after the intended date of departure)
• Travel Flight Itinerary (demonstrating your reservation of a flight from the United Arab Emirates to the Schengen Zone and back on the precise dates you intend to enter and exit this region.)
• Cover letter specifying your reason for visiting Europe, the countries you wish to see, how long you want to stay there, and other pertinent information.
• Proof of accommodation
• Proof of financial means (This can be a bank account statement, Sponsorship Letter or a combination of both.)
• Europe Travel Insurance

Note that all visa applications for visiting Greece are processed by VFS Dubai Visa Application Centre. It is located in Wafi Mall, Level 2, Falcon Phase 2, Umm Hurair 2. Visit the VFS website for more information.

VISA APPLICATION FEE

Applicants must pay a non-refundable visa fee to apply for a Schengen visa. The current Schengen visa price cap for those travelling from UAE to Greece is as follows:

• Fee: 340 AED for adults | 170 AED (6 to 12-year-old child)
• Additional Cost: AED 88

Passport holders with diplomatic or military status and family members of a citizen of the EU or EEA won’t have to pay the visa fee. There is also no fee for children under the age of six.

BOOK YOUR TICKET FROM UAE TO GREECE

Emirates offers return flights from Dubai to Athens for roughly AED 2000 , although prices may vary depending on when you book your flight. It is one of the popular destinations with cheap flights from Dubai .

With an estimated 6,000 islands, there is plenty to explore in Greece, as well as the multitude of historic sights on the mainland including the bustling capital Athens.

Ancient Greeks invented the theatre with most cities having a theatre – some of which had capacity for up to 15,000 people.

• The first “modern” Olympic Games were held in the Greek capital Athens in 1896.
• Around one-third of the entire Greek population currently lives in Athens, but that represents just 1% of its total land area.
• Greece’s highest mountain Mount Olympus in the north of the mainland was claimed to be the “home of the gods” in ancient Greek religion.
• Around 80% of the country is mountainous while 50% of Greece’s land is covered by forests.

Greece’s temperatures soar to well over 30C in the summer months of July and August. This is also the most crowded time of year. Temperatures are more moderate (mid 20Cs) in May-June and September-October, as well as being quieter. Greece’s climate means it is not known as a winter-sun destination but Athens is a good option for a city break year-round.

The Greek capital is one of the largest cities in Europe with a population of around four million. Athens has a history dating back 5,000 years and the skyline is dominated by the Acropolis and its monuments, including the magnificent Parthenon temple. Another must-see is the nearby Acropolis Museum, which only opened in 2009, to view fascinating archaeological artefacts. Other historic sites are dotted around the city, while the Plaka area is packed with shops, bars and restaurants. Syntagma Square is the centre of modern Athens and is home to the Royal Palace, where the Greek parliament sits.

Peloponnese

The southern part of the mainland, lying to the south of Athens, features some of the most important sites in ancient Greek mythology including Mycenae, Pylos and Epidaurus, which is still home to a well-preserved ancient theatre. The region is also home to Olympia, which hosted the ancient Olympic games for 1,000 years. The peninsula features many pretty beaches around its coastline while hiking trails through gorges and caves make the Peloponnese ideal for a varied touring holiday.

Greece’s largest island in the far south of the Aegean sea often thinks of itself as a country in its own right. The major two headline attractions are the Bronze Age historic site Knossos, near Heraklion, and the Samaria Gorge in the south of Crete. The island benefits from having two gateway airports at Heraklion and Chania. The major beach resorts are located around the largest city Heraklion in the east, while quieter areas can found around Chania on the western side. To escape the crowds completely, head to the sparsely populated south of the island.

Ionian islands

This group of seven islands off the western coast of the Greek mainland is headlined by the long-time tourist destination and gateway of Corfu, as well as beautiful Kefalonia. The group also includes Zakynthos, Lefkada and Ithaca. The islands are known for their clear blue waters, rugged coastlines, lush vegetation and forested mountains.

Cyclades islands

The headline attraction within this group of southern Aegean islands is Santorini with its spectacular volcanic cliffs and rock formations including the submerged caldera - the remains of an old crater and one of the most photographed sights in Greece. Mykonos has white-washed buildings and traditional windmills, but is also well known as a party island and for being more expensive than its neighbours, which include quieter options such as Naxos, Paros and Milos.

Dodecanese islands

Rhodes is the main draw of these islands on the eastern side of the Aegean. Rhodes has a rich history that can be seen in the medieval castle, ancient walls and old city of Rhodes Town, as well as the acropolis and archaeology of Lindos. Other smaller Dodecanese islands include Patmos, Samos, Kos and Symi.

In the north-west of the Aegean lie the Sporades islands – only four of which are inhabited: Alonnisos, Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros. The islands are renowned for their beautiful beaches, forests and offering some of the best diving and snorkelling in Greece. The region is also home to the Alonissos Marine Park.

Greece is renowned for its food and drink with classic dishes such as grilled souvlaki kebabs, moussaka and lamb kleftiko featuring on many menus. Seafood is another speciality including delicacies such as octopus, lobster and squid (calamari). The country is equally famed for its drinks such as the spirits Ouzo and locally brewed raki, which is normally served at the end of meals. Retsina is a traditional resinated wine that has been produced for more than 2,000 years, while more traditional red and white wines are also widely available.

Greek people are very proud of their history and culture, and also of their own individual region or island. Religion still plays a major role in Greek society with the vast majority of the population belonging to the Greek Orthodox church. Easter week is one of the most important times of the year with a series of celebrations culminating with fireworks on Easter Sunday. Greeks are very hospitable, so expect a warm welcome wherever you go. They particularly appreciate it if you try to use a few words of Greek or are willing to join in a traditional dance or celebration.

As befits a nation with so many islands and coastlines, many of Greece’s wildlife experiences centre on sea life. Alonissos Marine Park is the largest protected marine area in Europe and is home to several species of dolphin and whale, as well as the monk seal and abundant birdlife. Zakynthos also has a marine reserve which includes endangered loggerhead sea turtles who lay their eggs on the island’s beaches. Elsewhere, Cretan ibex may be spotted in the Samaria National Park and Rhodes attracts thousands of butterflies every May. Otters, wild boars and even wolves can be seen in the Nestos Delta on the north-east of the mainland.

Few countries can match Greece’s ancient history, which dates back to 1900BC and saw the country invent democracy as a political concept. The Greeks were also responsible for creating the original ancient Olympic Games nearly 3,000 years ago. The country’s modern history dates from the 1820s when it became independent of Turkey’s Ottoman Empire. After occupation by the Germans during the Second World War, the country then endured a civil war until 1949. Greece joined the European Community in 1981 but has faced years of economic hardship in recent years.

For some visitors, going to Greece is all about going to the islands. For others, it`s the 2,500 years of history in Athens, on the Peloponnese Peninsula and beyond. But for most travelers, it`s a combination of islands and inland, city and countryside, culture and leisure. Getting from each destination is as varied as the places themselves. Whether you`re traveling for a week or longer, chances are you`ll find yourself using boats, trains, cars and maybe even mopeds. By Boat/Ferry: Greece has 227 inhabited islands and more than 8,500 miles of coastline, so it should come as no surprise that boats are one of the most common ways to get around. The country offers an expansive network of ferries between the various islands and archipelagos, as well as ferry services to Italy and Turkey. Within easy reach of the Athens International Airport is Piraeus, which is the main port for ferries plying the Aegean Sea. From there, there are regular routes to the major islands in the Cyclades, Crete, the Saronic Gulf Islands, the Dodecanese chain and the Northeast Aegean Islands. A smaller port in Athens is Rafina, which has ferry service to Evia, some of the northernmost Cycladic Islands and many of the Northeast Aegean Islands. If you’re traveling to the Ionian Islands off the west coast of Greece, most ferries leaves from Patras or Kyllini on the Peloponnese or Igoumenitsa in Epirus. There are a number of ferry companies, with sea-going vessels that range from traditional large ferries carrying both passengers and vehicles to faster-moving catamarans and hydrofoils. By Train: The national rail system (OSE) is extremely limited and they don`t cover the whole country. Trains are slow and generally not very clean. That said, the importance of rail travel is now being rediscovered, and the national rail network is under major renovation. The project`s completion is still a long way off. There has been extensive (and continuing) modernization of the Athens-Thessaloniki corridor, with travel times being significant reduced. By Car: Driving the mountainous roads of the mainland and the busy streets of some of the more popular islands is not for everyone. If you`re up to the challenge, over 21 years old and comfortable with a standard transmission, renting a car is definitely a great way to explore remote villages in the countryside that are not reachable via public transportation. You will need an International Driving Permit accompanied by a valid driver`s license from your home country. In the U.S., these are available through AAA (American Automobile Association) and NAC (National Automobile Club). Car rental offices are present throughout Greece, especially in major cities and in highly touristed areas. The cars offered generally have manual gearboxes; automatics do exist, but it is advised to reserve one in advance. Some car rental agencies and insurance policies do not allow the car to be taken out of Greece.

The currency of Greece is the Euro. US dollars are not accepted. One euro is divided into 100 cents. The official symbol for the euro is €, and its ISO code is EUR. Please be sure to have the correct currency on hand or be prepared to exchange your dollars for euros upon arrival. I am going to be just factual, not bad mouthing nor complaining, but this was my experience. With 3 pieces of luggage, I was told the flight from Mumbai to Dubai was cancelled due to flood. This was told not by the airport board which still showed the regular time of departure, but general stuff at the airport. No Emirates stuff around to direct the transfer passengers of the cancelled flights. By the departure counters with crowds of people, one by one, angry, frustrated, urgent conversations were going on. No announcement were made, no postings being seen, just private conversations. I still have 5+ hours of layover, so I let more urgent people settled first. However, the fact that no communication of when, what and where I should go was very unsettling. Basically no time limit waiting means, no meal, no sleep, no step away, no planning, no change plan, no telling of the family what to do. Nobody was able to tell you anything but asked you to wait, no chair, no space, no facility to freshen up. That went on for 10+ (from 5) hour without warnings and accurate communications. Email received from Emirates asked me not to go to Dubai at all, or boarding at the time that was passed. In other words, communication were very untimely, after the fact. That created more confusion instead. After changing several of boarding time, we were given the gate # and a boarding pass. However, the boarding pass still have the original time of boarding, so again, not knowing walking 30 min in the airport to the gate would make you late or not, therefore, still dare not to eat a meal. The flight arriving to Dubai was uneventful and I gave a 4/5 rating. I just thought the layover at Dubai would just cut short from 8+ hours to 2+ hours. At Dubai airport, I saw people sleeping on cardboard, knowing, these people got stranded but they dared to sleep because they know when to board and I didn't. Or these kind of delay are just so normal that people know what to do to pass time. Then the worst service and crazy thing happened. The boarding time on board for LA and at gate A9 was clearly 8:50AM. At 8:40, surprised by not having any boarding activities, then one single staff showed up and said to a few passengers that the boarding would be delayed without a time frame. Since only a few people know, I asked another Emirates staff at another counter, who simply said basically non of his business. I was shocked with that indifferent attitude. Yet every boards I saw show the same boarding time. What kind of system failure was that to prepare delay situation! How confusing and unnecessary chaos and anger that provoke. That poor staff had to repeat himself so many times, answered questions that he had no power nor information to provide nor solved. One an only one stuff to show up for 10 min, leaving the counter non-staff with board showing 8:50AM boarding. This was purely irresponsible from top to bottom of the entire airline operation staff. What kind of leader in a service industry would allow this to happen to their customers. Without explanation, after changing 3 times the boarding times, again, means you should not go to eat a full meal, because, when you found a mob at the gate. People who were stranded for 2 days were afraid of not getting a seat with a full plane. That would not be happening if the airline provide adequate guidance to each person, instead of just having 4 staff yelling at the gate at the same time to "control" the crowd, threatening no boarding and delay boarding. Finally, I was on board, hungry and tired, not sleep for 36 hours. I was denied with a snack of fruit. By the time meal was served, it was an hour later. Half way of the trip, I felt sleep in fetus position and did not want to move, happy I finally could have some shut eyes time. However, when I got up to the bathroom, I felt very light headed. Having sleep deprived, constipated for 3 days, dehydrated, I knew it could happen since my blood pressure usually was low closed to 90/60. Any lower then that, I could have syncope. Sure enough, I was on the floor just 10 feet from my seat and 5 feet to the bathroom. However, nobody called for help. I asked for warm water and juice to hydrate, came only with cold and icy drinks which I wouldn't take. I asked for blankets, one was given. Yet my shivering, needs to cover my head and multiple requests did not hasten to take the two blankets that are at my seat 10 feet away. I waited 10 min for that. While 2-3 staff surrounded me, nobody did the vitals until after 15 min, just the spirometer only of which did not work due to my cold fingers. The first reading was 86 and oxygen was suggested. But another supervising personnel came, fussed over another reading, ignoring my comfort and needs. Seemingly the reading of spirometer was the priority. By then, no oxygen needed. I had this fainting experience before, and I knew how to help myself. However, I was not being listened to but to be told this and that. Finally, I got better and returned to seat. One kind flight attendant said she would check back with me in 15 min. She did not come back. I felt asleep in that fetus position again and this time I woke up with a bad cramp at my left leg. Yet I needed to go to bathroom, the cramp was too bad to walk. So I stepped back to seat. When I tried again the second time, the other front leg got cramp. This time I dare not move but massaged myself. For all these 5-10 min, I called for attention. Attendants passed me by because they were carried with heavy load of blankets and stuff. Nobody answered the light. Then came landing and off board. I was asked by two attendants how I felt. I smiled and said "fine".

The customer service was very poor. I didn’t get any accommodations for my cancelled flight. I was without any sleep for 36 hours.

Flight never took off. Boarded after multiple 30 minutes interval delays for hours.. then after an hour onboard, captain announce cancellation and back on the bus to the terminal with no information and everyone to fend for self.. Emirates did absolutely nothing to communicate either electronically or announcement. It’s unprecedented I know with the flood but lack of communication creates anxiety and extra pain for staff. Emirates should do better.. no supervisors monitoring floor and passengers abusing them which isn’t right but should Have had supervisors monitoring

Worst ever. No assistance and communication from Emirates crew. No visibility of when the flight is flying. Couldn’t understand if we can go to lounge to take rest. Emirates system at a certain point said flight is not operating and suggested to take the next flight and in few minutes it suddenly opened the gate for boarding. unsupportive and rude crew. Worst experience ever. Flight was delayed by 5 hours so need the compensation for that.

The customers before boarding the plane from Dubai was HORRENDOUS. The entire Emirates staff had a stick up their bum. The guy at the check in booth was rude. I don’t understand.

The boarding at Heathrow is chaotic. That's partly due to the lack of space and seating at gate 8, and a Qatar flight from gate 9 at the same time. That's down to Heathrow rather than Gulf Air. I've had a similar experience here before. Another problem which isn't specific to Gulf Air or Heathrow is announcements, and those for boarding in particular. They are difficult to hear with all the other noise and for me with hearing problems it's even worse. A simple tv screen would help, so long as it's updated of course.

This itineray had to be cancelled as the connection time in Paris was only 55 min which is below the 90 min required by Paris airport. Nether Chat deal/Kayak, nor Gulf air nor American Air picked on that. I called American Air for unrelated question was then told that boarding would be denied due to the short connection time. This should have been an automatic notification from Chat deal/ Kayak or Gulf air and itinery cancelled. What is the point of inconveniencing the passenger?? The return has still not be refunded. Shame on Gulf Air, very poor customer service for an airline that has so good flight crew!

Excellent service and comfort from the moment you check in. Flight crew is hyper focused on making passengers comfortable and at ease. It’s like a flying hotel!

It was a nightmare. I booked business class ticket from Ediburgh to Beirut via Istanbul to attend a funeral. I had a wonderful experience flying to Istanbul from Edinburgh. Then I could not get a boarding pass issued to Beirut. It seems that although they booked me and I had a reservation number, I had no seat allocated and the flight was full. I was asked to go from one desk to another and made to wait for 2 hours. I missed my flight as I did not have a seat assigned and it was full. The only option was to put me on the next flight, 6 hours later, for a fee of over $400. They said that was the best they can do to 'help me' and to 'take it or leave it'. Well, I was not about to be bullied; I stood my ground. I booked and paid premium for the journey, which was confirmed. The eventually accepted to not charge me extra and i waited a total of over 8 hours in the airport with no compensation. On top of my grief with the risk of missing the funeral service, I had to put up with their indifference and condescending attitude. They spoke about me in Turkish thinking I would not understand (I hold a British passport) in front of me. When they eventually handed my passport and boarding pass back to me, I showed them I was born in Istanbul and that I understood everything and said a condescending 'thank you' back to them in Turkish. You should have seen their faces. I said that consumers have rights and it is a shame that Turkish Airlines does not have good customer service to at least acknowledge and apologize for errors committed by the airline. Blaming the me, the client, for such an error and placing unreasonable ultimatums, rudeness and dismissiveness to be rid of me, particularly when I was vulnerable and visibly grieving was really shocking... The airline taints the city of Istanbul and the people of Türkiye. Such a shame.

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the recent flight experience I had with your airline. This has been one of the worst travel experiences I have ever encountered, and I feel compelled to bring it to your attention. Firstly, I missed my flight due to what I perceive to be a lack of clear communication and coordination on the part of your staff. There was no remorse or apology from the airline's representatives, which further exacerbated the situation. As a result of missing my flight, I was subjected to a 24-hour delay at the airport, where I had to spend a significant amount of money to rent a hotel room and cover other incidental expenses. Additionally, since my baggage was already checked in from Tanzania to Turkey, I had to purchase essential items for the 24-hour period. What truly dismayed me, however, was the discourteous and unprofessional attitude of your staff. Their lack of empathy and understanding only added to the stress and inconvenience of the situation. I have been traveling abroad for over 20 years, and I can confidently say that this experience has been the worst I have ever encountered. As a result, I am compelled to reconsider ever using your airline again for future travel. I strongly urge you to address the issues I have raised and take immediate steps to rectify the situation. Additionally, I expect a formal apology and a refund for the expenses I incurred due to the airline's negligence.

The crew was excellent, but the flight was a little delayed and the temperature on the plane was too warm.

Better attitude training for staff at airport, better training for flight attendants, better food, don’t put us with all the crying babies that cried nonstop for 12 plus hours.

Flight attendants were harsh, food could be better, took way too long to pick up food trays, were stuck with the crying babies the entire to and from trip. Restrictions of 8 kg for cabin luggage is ridiculous that’s barely 2 pairs of pants, shirts, shoes. There shouldn’t be any restrictions on the carry on luggage size except the checked in luggage. Attendants don’t even help with putting luggage in cabin space. Attendant picked up food tray and spilled cherry juice all over my husband and has the nerve to come back to ask why he hadn’t changed his clothes.

Entertainment content is outdated. Food; I chose the chicken meal with rice, I would like to know the thought process of serving rice and chicken to be eaten with only a fork?! I don't eat spicy food for health reasons, I found out that the rice is very spicy after the first bite, so I didn't eat.
