EB18: Corratec adds a slick gravel bike, lightest virtual pivot point mountain bike ever

Corratec has upgraded their gravel bike options with carbon fiber models called the Allroad C1. It takes full advantage of the composite material to do some elegant shaping around the wider tires and accessory mounts to create a great looking off-road road bike.

The bike has light duty rack mounts front and rear, but the shaping suggests it’s more racy than bikepacky.

The fork hides a flat rack mount behind its shapely, oversized crown.

Run a front derailleur or chain guide if you want.

Tire clearance is related at 700×40 front and rear. They’ll come with either Ultegra 2×11 (€2,699) or this SRAM Force 1 build (€3,599). There’s also an alloy e-bike version available.

2019 Corratec Revolution i-Link

The Corratec Revolution I-Link is a new full suspension version of their Revolution hardtail, and they say it’s the lightest virtual pivot point XC bike on the market at 9.3kg complete in top trim. That’s for the SL version shown here, which has a lighter layup – the frame alone with shock is just under 2kg. The standard (non SL) frame comes in 200g heavier, but they say the lowest price point complete bike still comes in under 12kg.

It uses their Inside Link suspension design, which places the virtual pivot point just behind the lower linkage. This creates 200% anti-squat, so you don’t need any lockout on the rear. That let them run a very light compression damping on the shock, so they say you only need about 10% sag on this bike.

One of the benefits of this suspension design is very efficient pedaling. Magura MT8 brakes are among the lightest out there, which is part of how they achieve this extremely low weight:

The complete bike came in at 9.31kg (20.52lb) without pedals. Here’s the rest of the build that justifies the price tag. Starting with a SRAM XX1 Eagle group…

The fork is a Fox 32 SC and the cockpit comes from Tune.

And that’s the full cockpit: Bar, stem, seatpost and saddle.

The new DT Swiss XRC carbon wheels complete the package, wrapped in Schwalbe’s lightweight Racing Ralph tires. Complete bike is €8,499 for the top level, down to €3,299 for the base model (including VAT).

You can get the Revolution full suspension model in two travels, both with the same frame. The XC build has 100mm travel front and rear. The trails version simply uses a longer shock stroke to get 120mm travel, matched to a 120mm fork. On that one, they recommend 15% sag in the back. The XC bikes get a fork lockout, trail models don’t. All but the top XC build get dropper seatposts.

The Revolution 29 hardtail now comes in lighter than ever, with a few layup tweaks to the rear end to make it stiffer. Mostly, it’s the new spec that makes it so light, using the same Tune-heavy build to come in at 8.47kg (18.67lb). Retail is €7,299.

I believe that while the patent on VPP is up the trade mark on the term VPP is not, You can make the bike but can’t call it VPP you need a different acronym.

Even if you can’t get their bikes, their website is still worth a visit.

A really nice clean gravel bike. But without mounts on the top tube in 2018 ..?

Corratec E-Allroad in the test: At home on all roads?!

Test: The name says it all here, because the Corratec E-Allroad feels at home on (almost) all roads. With a balanced geometry and the dynamic support of the Fazua drive, you are well positioned both in everyday life and in your free time.

Since Corratec was founded more than 30 years ago, sporty models have been an integral part of the portfolio. Nevertheless, we have constantly developed further in order to be able to cover all facets of the bicycle. It doesn't matter whether it's about sport, leisure or everyday life. For several years now, more and more e-bikes have been included in the manufacturer's lineup from the Bavarian foothills of the Alps. Among the almost 50 bikes with e-support, the E-Allroad, a gravel bike with a motor, also shines out.

Like many e-bike manufacturers, Corratec relies on an already proven platform and combines it with a sporty Fazua Evation drive. This gives you a largely identical structure to the "classic" Corratec gravel bike and you can still benefit from active support. Thanks to the well-coordinated support levels, the E-Allroad does not lose its natural driving feel and you get the necessary boost when you need it. However, the Corratec E-Graveller drives very sluggishly without a motor or above the 25 km/h limit, which should not least be due to its 16,35 kilos. The Fazua control element was also placed a bit unhappily, which is not on the top tube but in the frame triangle on the down tube and is therefore difficult to reach while riding.

But if you have chosen the right support level, the E-Allroad can fully demonstrate its strengths on moderate terrain. With good rolling characteristics and a certain amount of smoothness, you can quickly reach your destination. The fairly balanced geometry also ensures comfortable rides. The comfort and handling over hill and dale also fit into the overall picture and contribute to the bike's all-round capabilities. The voluminous WTB Riddler tires ensure good grip and comfort thanks to their good profile and 45mm width. However, because of this and clearly also because of the lavish weight of the E-Allroad, you have to put up with a little more time to get it up to speed. But once the Corratec rolls, it lies well on the track and is on the right track.

So it can be seen quite quickly that the Corratec E-Graveller is quite broadly based in order to be able to cover a large number of possible applications. Thanks to robust and, above all, in-house attachments such as handlebars, stem, seat post and crank made of aluminum, the longevity and functionality of the bike is brought to the fore without frills, which also contributes to the all-round capabilities of E-Allroads.

Fork material.

ALLROAD Travel 2 has an aluminum fork, which doesn’t add too much extra weight to the bike. However, it is not so stiff as steel or carbon forks are.

When it comes to wheels, the ALLROAD Travel 2 bike is equipped with the 700c aluminum model. There is no doubt, that 700c wheels are very popular on all road bike models. However, these wheels don’t perform so well when passing over obstacles.

Stopping the bike when needed, it’s essential for your safety. This bike has Mechanical Disc brakes. They deliver good performance and cost less than hydraulic disk brakes. However, they don’t have the stopping power of hydraulic brakes.

Corratec Allroad C2

Looks ok. Frame reminds me a little of that found on the Planet-X Holdsworth gravel bike. That same frame has a threaded bottom bracket. Couldn't see on the Corratec page if it had the same but it would be worth contacting them to find out. Road rings but at least you have 1:1 ratio. Not a fan of those constant two-teeth jumps in the cassette, but we're all different. Can you test ride?  

Interesting thing is that Corratec states that even 2x model comes with 45 tires. Thought grx 2x was limited to 40 mm.

Really nice looking bike. Odd. The web page states "Longer wheelbase for even wider wheel freedom up to 40mm" but i see WTB Riddler in the 700c x 45 size. Am I confusing two different measurements? max tire size vs ? What's the max tire size? Personally, i really liked riding 47 wide tires. And the option for 650b wheels. At the moment, i'm just loving my 650b x 2.1 inch tires run tubeless (my bike originally came with 700c x 40 but i knew i had the option to go the route i did). The chainrings are road compact. Gravel riding, from my experience, and what i read, really benefits from sub compact gearing (48/32 or 46/30). Unless you're a strong rider, and much of your riding is flat or rolling hills, and you have no intention to carry stuff, i see inclusion of a 50 tooth (50/34) 2x chainring is not the best option. Particularly for me and my riding. But we're all different. eric/fresno, ca,/usa  

I am living in Lithuania, mostly flat terrain, also I have plans to use my gravel bike on road with another wheelset, so I think 50/34 should do the job.

So messen Sie richtig

Benötigt werden folgende Hilfsmittel: - Wasserwage oder dickes Buch - Zollstock oder Massband

1 Am genauesten wird die Messung, wenn Sie sich bis auf Ihre Unterwäsche (bzw. bis auf eine Radhose) nichts mehr anhaben. Ziehen Sie auch Ihre Schuhe aus!

2 Die Wasserwaage oder das Buch muss nun möglichst waagerecht zwischen die Oberschenkel geklemmt und bis nach oben geschoben werden.

3 Mit dem Zollstock oder dem Maßband wird dann der Abstand zwischen Oberkante Buch (Wasserwaage) und Fußboden gemessen. Das klappt natürlich am besten, wenn jemand hilft.
