Cruise Control

  • Add to quote

Hey guys, Im looking to buy a used GS Adventure, my budget is around $9000 and from what I have seen so far I can get a 2010 - 2012 with +-20 000 miles on it. They all seem to be well speced but I cannot for the life of me find info on cruise control. (pretty important since I intend putting some serious mileage on it) What I want to know is: does it come standard on post-2010 models? TIA.

Ah ok. Thanks for the reply.

My 2007 has a throttle lock, excellent on flat highway...in hills not so much.

Is that aftermarket or standard?

Dr. Strangelove

AFAIK there were no OEM throttle locks, they were all third party

KAOKO – Leader in Friction Type Throttle Stabilizers

I have various throttle locks d not like them. They are good for about 2 minutes to give you had a break but unless you ride on a pane of glass any in/decline and you speed up or slow down. Riding solo isn't as bad but with a buddy or 2 its miserable.

With the Kaoko (and any other GOOD throttle lock), you can set it to add just a little friction, controlling the speed as usual but with a lot less fatigue on the hand/wrist. I admit it's not a cruise control but I could not do 500 miles/day rides without it.

BMW R1200GS Cruise Control Fix

Discussion in ' GS Boxers ' started by Miatatat , Jun 15, 2018 .

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a fix to my faulty cruise control that helped me. I searched online for a fix to this issue, and didn't find anything, so I'm writing to get this information searchable online for anyone else who might have this same problem. The bike: 2014 R1200GS The problem: I would set the cruise control, and it would be super difficult to actually get it to work. I finally figured out it would only engage if I put pressure on the "on/off" slider while touching the "set" button and releasing the hold on the on off slider just right. Sometimes it would work, and sometimes it wouldn't. The solution: I slid the slider to "off." I put the strongest super glue that was water and heat resistant on the control where the path of the on/off slider would be in the on position. I slid it to "on" over the super glue and used a strap to keep pressure on the slider in the on position. I came back about 48 hours later, removed the strap, and now my cruise control works flawlessly. Yes it is constantly "on" technically, but pushing the set button is what makes the little light come on saying cruise control is activated... and obviously is what activates the actual cruise control. I hope this is helpful to someone else that has a faulty left hand control cluster on their bike and is having cruise control issues. Ride on!

Nice McGiver fix without spending a ton on a new set of switch gear. FYI, I never turn mine off. I don't know if that is good or bad, but I just always forget to turn it off. It doesn't seem to hurt anything.

Yep, my CC works just great, and I never turn it off just leave it in the "armed " position. Seems to work just fine that way and doesn't wear out the switch. YMMV

I had almost forgot there was a cruise on/off switch, as mine had just been on since I got it. If the set/increment/decrease button stopped working I’d notice that immediately.

cruise control for 1200gs

ok, I have been waiting to see the mc cruise unit, and now I have seen it here, I have heard of folks using the audio vox unit on bike before as well so why would the 500 dollar (oops 678 dollar+shipping i assume) Mc Cruise kit be better than the audio vox which is also vacuum operated but under 100 dollars, I have heard of no complaints on the audio vox unit on other lists so far and they look really similar http://tinyurl.com/ycbs

I've been looking at these too but haven't ever had to install one. Let me know if you want to do a tech session on this and I'll throw down for a unit for my GS.

For what it is worth.................. I have installed 2 AudioVox CCS-100 cruise control units. The 1st on my K1100LT and the 2nd on a Honda ST-1300. Both units have worked flawlessly. My K11LT was done nearly 3 years ago now and has survived numerous deluges of rain. The kits cover nearly any circumstance for installation with many many parts not used. AutoZone sold these units for 30 dollars because so many were bought, opened and quietly reboxed and taken back for refund when the not-so-apt were confronted with installation. The truth is if you can read and follow you can install one. I believe an in-line engine is easier than a V. The boxer and the V-4 are a little harder to get to the throttle body area for hooking on the cruise cable. It is the best "farkle" I have ever put on a motorcycle. The cc is used on every outting. Period. And, it is every bit as smooth as the oem on my K1200LT. The one comment about the 600 dollar one............. I thought with that price (wopping!) that it would be electro served and electro operated as opposed to the AudioVox that is electro served and pneumatically operated. The latter being less costly since the servo is boosted pneumatically. My K1100LT w/ ecc simply works beautifully The GS operates the throttle body(s) from one side or does it pull from a harness between the jugs? I owned an oilhead RS (96) and I vaguely remember it pulling from a clevis harness between the jugs. If it were at either TB it would be easier but still doable IMO. Best darn 130 bucks I have ever spent on ANY farkle! :bmw:

Audiovox cruise works excellent Just finished a 7500 mile trip, with my 2 brothers. All GS's (2 GSA's and 1 GS) had Audiovox cruise installed, all worked perfectly.... Total cost for each cruise control was about $125 ($89 for cruise unit, plus RT pulleys, spring, ect)

Audiovox cruise See this link for starters; when I have more time I'll try to give more details on installation http://www.motocross.net/bmw cruise.htm

o-ring as a cruise control I am planning to buy a $2 rubber O-ring seal, and put it between the throtle the housing of the handle. I did it on my KLR and works perfectly. It controls the throttle opening not the speed, which in KLR might be a bit of a problem but in GS not a chance. I wll let you guys know if it works and save you hundreds of bucks

If someone has hooked up an Audiovox cruise control up to an R motor I would love to know how they over came the double throttle cable. On the K- bike it's easy all the throttle bodies are linked in line and you can hook the the cable from the cruise control to it fairly easy. And yes it works great. Set it and forget it. I've looked at the R model bikes and can not figure out how to overcome the double throttle cables. They are all brought together in the cable box is see no way of tying into this box so as both cables are pulled evenly. If there is someone out there that has made this work I would love some direction on how to hook it up. I have a Audiovox unit waiting to be installed. My right wrist can't wait. Just got back from a 4200 mile trip and cruise control would have been great.

Help! I have misplaced last year's Owners News that had the article on electronic cruise control for R1200GS. Can anyone remember who manufactured or sold that product? Thanks in advance.
