Papa Emeritus IV is coming to an amphitheater near you. Ghost , the Swedish hard-rock band led by the man of a thousand faces, Tobias Forge, has announced a U.S. summer tour .
Titled the Re-Imperatour U.S.A. 2023, the trek begins August 2nd in Concord, California, and plays 27 dates, wrapping up September 11th in Los Angeles. Along the way, the tour hits cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, Tampa, Austin, and Phoenix. Fellow Swedish metalheads Amon Amarth open all dates except the L.A. closer.
Ghost released their latest album, Impera , last year, a record that rails against bloated nations, empty leaders, and the glorification of stupidity. “We now have mechanisms within our own Western empire who are actively trying to, and to some degree have, created this time machine where we’re regressing,” Forge told Rolling Stone . “We’re flattening the earth. We’re submitting to stupidity, which is fucking unbelievable.”

Earlier this month, Ghost staged a pop-up exhibit at the Whisky a Go Go on the Sunset Strip in L.A. that featured memorabilia, from stage costumes to a “corpse,” from their supposed Sixties incarnation. They also released a new version of the Impera track “Spillways” featuring Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott.

Ghost Announce 2023 ‘Re-Imperatour’ U.S. Tour Dates With Amon Amarth
Ghost have announced their first set of U.S. tour dates for 2023. Dubbed the Re-Imperatour, the 27-date tour will feature Amon Amarth as the opener.
The run will kick off Aug. 2 in Concord, Calif. and wrap up Sept. 11 in Los Angeles at the renowned Kia Forum. Amon Amarth will join Ghost throughout the entirety of the tour, except for the Los Angeles show. Tickets go on sale this Friday, Feb. 17 at 10AM local time.
Earlier this year, Ghost leader Tobias Forge teased that "good change" would be coming to the band prior to embarking on any of their 2023 tours.
“We’re going to come out with a little bit of change before that – good change," the vocalist told Metal Hammer . "We’re not going to go silent. Some things are public, other things not in public view, but there are a lot of things brewing.”
While it's unclear what Forge was alluding to, Ghost have undergone quite a bit of change as it is over the last several months, especially when their 2019 song "Mary on a Cross" went viral on TikTok , which exposed the band to a whole new fanbase.
As per Setlist.fm , Ghost's most recent concert took place in September. They have a European tour scheduled throughout May and June before returning to the U.S. in August. Check out tickets for the European shows here .

GHOST leader Tobias Forge worked on the follow-up to 2018's "Prequelle" with Åhlund and Swedish co-writers Salem Al Fakir and Vincent Pontare , whose credits include Madonna and Lady Gaga .
Last month GHOST released a new version of its song "Spillways" featuring a guest appearance by DEF LEPPARD singer Joe Elliott .
"Spillways" is taken from "Impera" , which was released in March 2022.

Ghost has revealed details of its upcoming RE-IMPERATOUR U.S.A. 2023 summer tour with special guest Amon Amarth. Produced by Live Nation and FPC Live, the 27-date tour kicks off on Wednesday, August 2nd in Concord, CA at Concord Pavilion, with stops in Milwaukee on August 12 at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Cincinnati, Austin and more before wrapping up with the band's Monday, September 11th return to the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
Ghost continues to elevate and reaffirm its status as one of the world's most esteemed and celebrated creative forces. Accumulating well over a billion streams, the GRAMMY-winning Swedish theatrical rock band continues to bring the “euphoric spectacle” (ROLLING STONE) of its live shows to ever-growing and increasingly impassioned crowds, headlining arena tours including sold out shows from The Forum in Los Angeles and Barclays Center in New York to London’s O2 Arena and Stockholm’s Avicii Arena. In March 2022, THE LOS ANGELES TIMES reported in a Calendar cover story that Ghost had "conquered metal and the charts” when its fifth album IMPERA debuted at #1 in a sweep of the U.S. album charts, entering the BILLBOARD 200 at #2 and bowing at #1 in the band's native Sweden as well as Germany and Finland, while cracking the top 5 in the UK (#2), Netherlands (#2), Belgium (#2), Canada (#3), Australia (#3), France (#5), Ireland (#5), and more. Produced by Klas Åhlund and mixed by Andy Wallace — and featuring “Spillways”—hailed as a “sweetly constructed rock tune” by THE NEW YORK TIMES, the GRAMMY-nominated “Call Me Little Sunshine,” and Active Rock #1 radio single “Hunter’s Moon” — IMPERA finds Ghost transported centuries forward from the Black Plague era of its previous album, 2018 Best Rock Album GRAMMY nominee Prequelle —or as ROLLING STONE put it, “Ghost predicted the pandemic, Now the metal band is foretelling the fall of empires." The result is the most ambitious and lyrically incisive entry in the Ghost canon: Over the course of IMPERA’ s 12-song cycle, empires rise and fall, would-be messiahs ply their hype (financial and spiritual alike), prophecies are foretold as the skies fill with celestial bodies divine and man-made… All in all, the most current and topical Ghost subject matter to date is set against a hypnotic and darkly colorful melodic backdrop making IMPERA a listen like no other — yet unmistakably, quintessentially Ghost.
TICKETS: Tickets will be available starting with a Citi cardmember presale (details below) and Artist presale on Tuesday, February 14th. Additional presales will be available throughout the week before the general on sale starting Friday, February 17th at 10am local time in person at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater and at Ticketmaster.com,.

Welcome to st. louis ghosts.
Join St. Louis Ghosts to uncover the countless unexplained hauntings that continue to terrify one of the most haunted cities of the midwest.
Burial Grounds to Bloodshed – Why St. Louis is so Haunted
St. Louis is a city that has witnessed centuries of war and bloodshed, changing hands from the indigenous Osage and Illiniwek tribes to the colonial superpowers France and then Spain. The ghostly activity surrounding the ancient Indian burial grounds stems from a dark, disturbing history with constant battles for supremacy amidst holy temples and sacred mounds on both sides of the Mississippi. From the Seven Years’ War between archrivals France and Spain to the Battle of St. Louis when the British attacked settlers during the Revolutionary War, the city’s inhabitants were continually the victims of the violence that surrounded it.
As the “Gateway to the West”, St. Louis has had many adventurers, frontiersmen, and visitors pass through on their way to supposed fame and glory. Though many have made their way to the city and beyond, few ever return once they have stepped through the infamous arch. From ancient burial grounds to deadly wars and fatal happenings, this city holds centuries of terror, pain, and bloodshed.
Kauffman Park is one of the locations in St. Louis where you may find ghostly figures wandering about still wearing their war uniforms. Homes in this neighborhood have also reported items unexplainably left out of place and doors slamming shut. From incredibly haunted theaters, to mysteriously abandoned museums and parks, St. Louis provides the perfect blend of haunted history and intense horror.

A Guide to St. Louis' Ghost Tours and Other Haunted Spots
Tricked-out haunted houses are fun, but some of the most terrifying spots are the ones rooted in real, eerie events from the city's past.

The history of St. Louis has no shortage of haunted tales. From the accursed Lemp family to Zombie Road to the events that inspired The Exorcist , our city has brushes with other worlds and unclean phenomena to spare. We’re in the thick of Halloween madness season, so shut down the Netflix horror marathon, get off the couch, and get really scared. Here’s a half-dozen spooky spots waiting for you around town.
Haunted History Walk
Take an hour-and-a-half walking tour that starts in Laclede’s Landing and covers the Great St. Louis fire, the infamous exorcism, the city’s cholera epidemic, the sandbar known as Bloody Island for the duels that it hosted, and more. Tours run this weekend and next Wednesday through Friday. Book online , or call 314.800.6369. $25. Departing from the Morgan Street Brewery, 721 N. Second .
Haunted History Tours at the Lemp Mansion
The Lemp Mansion is considered one of the nation's top haunted destinations. The Lemp family’s beer business took advantage of the cool, underground caves at Cherokee and DeMenil for beer-making. The company flourished for a time, before a string of tragic events. Unhappy ancestors are said to still linger in the mansion. Call 314-644-1814 to book a tour. 3322 DeMenil Place .
St. Charles Ghost Tours
St. Charles is charming, but it has plenty of creepy manifestations worth checking out. In 1853, bodies and headstones at one of the city's graveyards were moved, but some souls were forgotten. Their bodies remain in St. Charles with no headstones, and they're apparently not thrilled about this development. (And for a less scary treat in St. Charles, check out the Legends & Lanterns festival during the next two weekends.) Ghost tours run Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., 9:30 p.m., and sometimes midnight. Call 314-374-6102 to book a tour. $20. 101 S. Main, St. Charles.
Zombie Road
Lawler Ford Road, dubbed “Zombie Road, " is a 2-mile stretch near the Meramec River. It was originally a trail used by Native Americans and early settlers accessing the river. During the Civil War, it was a travel route, and trucks used it to haul gravel from the river. You may or may not find ghosts there these days, but if you trespass after dark it’s a pretty safe bet that you'll find very corporeal police officers willing to write you a ticket. Rock Hollow Trail, Wildwood.
Haunted History Tours of Peabody Opera House
It’s not just melodies that haunt the Peabody Opera House—the St. Louis Paranormal Research Society says it’s one of the most haunted buildings that the group has ever investigated. Many old buildings were torn down to make way for the venue, and according to the society, the previous occupants didn't simply move along peacefully when they were displaced. The tours for this year sold out quickly, but it's never too early to mark your calendars for next October. 1400 Market.
Exorcist House
While you cannot step inside the house ( it's private property ), horror-movie buffs can still drive past the home where the dramatic spiritual cleansing that inspired The Exorcist took place. In 1949, a 14-year-old boy came to St. Louis for treatment of a mysterious affliction; Jesuit priests began praying over him at the house and finally took him to the Alexian Brothers Hospital in South City. 8435 Roanoke (private property).

Live reviews
Ghost are, regardless of whether you're particularly into corpse painted, Satanic-inspired heavy metal, one band that you should not miss live. Their concerts are not simply events to watch but experiential, jaw-dropping journeys to embark upon, and here's why: The Swedish sextet, clad in black hooded gowns and pointed beard-masks (yes, this is a thing) are led by their singer, known as Papa Emeritus, who dons full skull make-up and the robes and hat of a Roman Catholic pope (aside from the upside-down crosses adorning them). As well as their appearances, the band add to the intoxicating atmosphere of their shows with a backdrop of faux stained glass windows, and burn incense to give the audience the impression of being in a church, about to undergo something more than simply watching a group of men play musical instruments on a stage. They achieve this by including the audience in their twisted act, for example during the song Body and Blood, scantily-clad women appeared at the front of the stage offering the 'Eucharist' of a goblet of blood (aka wine) to the lucky fans in the front row.
I saw Ghost at the Fillmore Silver Spring, shorty after the release of their highly anticipated second album, Infestissumam, and was, frankly, blown away by the quality of their live show. Their appearances and Satan-worshipping act are contrasted by the liveliness of their music, which while categorized as heavy or black metal, is definitely more riff and vocal-driven than most metal, with songs such as the single Monstrance Clock and even an amped-up cover of the Beatles' Here Comes The Sun as part of their catchy, dancable set.
Even if you are the biggest metal-phobe around, you should go see Ghost. If heavy metal is your jam, but you're really not into the whole make-up/ crazy outfit thing, you should go see Ghost. If you're a fan or the music but are undecided on paying for a ticket, you should most definitely go see Ghost. The entire experience is something intoxicatingly unforgettable, and you will not regret it!

The wife and I got into the game a bit late but Ghost is as much a part of our yearly plans as is eating, sleeping, and hydrating. We were fortunate to have caught their last two rituals in Sweden last year and were able to capture video of Papa III being pulled off stage during Monstrance Clock. We were so happy that we made the trip from the states because seeing the end of Papa III in videos is nothing compared to the excitement of seeing it in person, from the barrier, and right up front. This band is very exciting to watch and being able to share the experience with my wife has made our evenings with Ghost that much better. My wife met Papa III last year and we've had the opportunity to meet Cardinal Copia 3 times this year during the meet and greets in New York and Pittsburgh. We're looking forward to meeting him again 4 more times out of the 6 rituals we'll be attending in December. We also already have our tickets and vacation planned for the 2 upcoming rituals taking place in Sweden in February 2019. When they make their way back to the states in 2019, we will begin planning our schedules around their tour dates. Here's a short back story as to why they are so important to me. My wife and I were just a couple of months away from signing the official court documents stating we were divorced. While trying to keep things amicable we would meet to discuss things and we'd often listen to Ghost. By the time they would be coming Philadelphia that year, we would have been attending as two single individuals and no longer married. We'd have fun listening to them and as that common ground grew stronger, so did we and slowly began reconciling. By the time they did come to Philadelphia that year, we attended as a happily married couple and continue to do so today. Getting my wife back, I can honestly say, is all thanks to Ghost and I couldn't be more grateful to them or happier sharing the experience with anyone else except for Kelly.
The concert at Liseberg amusement Park was amazing. They opened doors at 11:00 am and there was already like 30 people waiting for the concert impatiently. Security guards and workers of the Amusement Park were very nice and help people when there was an incident outside the park.
The concert started at 8:00 pm without any problem, the crowd went crazy when they went on stage. The setlist was the following:
- Square Hammer
- From the Pinnacle to the Pit
- Elizabeth
- Con clavi con Dio
- Per aspera ad Inferi
- Body and Blood
- Devil Church
- Year Zero
- Spokosonat
- Absolution
- Deus in Absentia
- Monstrance Clock.
At the end of the last show was when 2 bodyguards came on stage and dragged Papa Emeritus III from stage and Papa Emeritus Zero came in, anouncing that the party was over and a new era was about to start.
I only got into Ghost recently and caught their show last night in Toronto.
I decided to get some cheap tickets because I liked the music and thought they'd be fun to see live.
They by far exceeded anything I was expecting. The creepy church vibe, use of incense(which I have never encountered before, very nice touch!), Papa engaging the audience at every opportunity and even took a few minutes just to chit chat and kept us roaring and laughing for more. The use of costumes and masks was amazing.
Being an introvert I don't really go out much, and when I do I just kind of sit there and enjoy the music and the show. This is the first band that's made me get up from my chair and actually get into the show. Next time they come to the area, I'm definitely saving up and treating myself to WAY better seating!
Oh my Ghost, this is the live ritual gig experience your soul is crying out for. Full disclaimer: I love Ghost to bits and have been preaching my dark passion for years. Seeing them live again - this time in a bigger arena off the back of a couple more hit albums - reaffirms the faith.
Go and see Ghost and you will get a diverse setlist drawn from the band's spectacular back catalogue. You will get theatrics and pyrotechnics. You will get both humour and deep emotion, dark anthems and sublime instrumentals and an uplifting sense that you a witnessing something novel and special.
Ghost are - musically, aesthetically, spiritually - something to cherish and the live experience is one that is fun, compelling, cathartic and oh-so-damn-rock-n-roll. Go worship and have the time of your (after)life.
I can see Ghost every night and never get bored. It's not just the band and music, Tobias has created characters, including his own, for this band that are incredibly humble and patient with their fans. While the material can be considered risque, you will see children younger than 10 years old attending that are not only having the time of their lives, but participating in the meet and greets with their parents. Everything about these shows from the music, to the costumes, the characters, and the theatrics is so very much entertaining. We know as fans that there is so much more to look forward to with the future of Ghost and we'll have the opportunity to enjoy them for many more years. It is very exciting when tomorrow becomes today and you're standing in front eagerly awaiting Ashes to start.
If you have Ghost, you have everything.
Theatre; spectacle; a sense of cult worship; dark humour; thick fugs of incense; electric, otherwordly energy; lighting and atmospherics; collective frenzy; and most of all, the sweet music of the night.
Ghost are beautiful for so many reasons. Beneath their sublime subversive style - iconoclastic and gleefully irreverent - is a musical powerhouse making the most compelling and catchy rock in this epoch. The craftsmanship is incredible. The mystique is immense. It's a joy to behold in the flesh (and blood) and if you have the opportunity to absorb the spirit of Ghost in person, surrender to it.
Honestly, Ghost was one of the greatest entertainment experiences I've had. Join them in their ritual and hail your Master...
This was the best show I have ever been to (I have seen a lot too). Ghost put on an electric performance with great theatrics as well as fun conversational bits while the musicians took a couple minutes to get water, wipe the sweat off from under those masks, etc. We were also delighted by the pyrotechnics, fog machines, and surprise mummy dust confetti! Well executed and the band sounded amazing live. I wish I had gotten tickets for the following night too! I will definitely be seeing them when they come back into town. Ghost really knows how to stimulate all their fans' senses. Many thanks to the band for their commitment to their fans and the melodic tunes they share with us. Keep them coming please!!!
The Ghost show was truly amazing. For me, this was mainly due to two things:
1. Each and every member of this band knows his instrument very well, and they play their songs flawlessly and with ease. Leaving them energy to interact with the crowd while still not missing a note/beat.
2. Their concept is so well thought through. From the incense and small unveiling ritual before their set starts to the sisters of sin and perfected visual in set, movements and costumes, everything works brilliantly. And with Papa giving some background info to songs and rituals, you really get the feeling you are part of a well-oiled ritual.
I am very glad I've been to the show, and can't wait to see this band again :)
Awesome band! I had a older friend come with last night to the Stockholm show and even thou she said "It's not exactly my favourite but it was a terrific show, tunes to sing along to and this isn't the last time we do this!" with a huge smile on her face. This was my second Ritual, i love the costume changes, you really feel like your seeing a theatrical show instead of a regular concert, I'm use to sitting up front but this time sat in the balcony to see a spectacular light show and pyrotechnics, we sat in the upper balcony and could feel the heat from the pyro effects.I only wish i could have been yp front closer to Cardinal Copia,to get his blessings. Will not be the last time i go to see Ghost!

Curious types can ask their guide as many questions as they want without feeling self-conscious. Photography enthusiasts can take all the time they want to pause at each tour stop and get the perfectly spooky photo. Small children can enjoy a delightfully spooky tour that is scary—but not too scary.
Suffice it to say: our tours can accommodate virtually any event, age, or group size.
We can host groups for any occasion; field trips, birthdays, bachelor/bachelorette parties, graduation celebrations, corporate team building events, Halloween outings, family days or Fourth of July celebrations. Think outside the box, ghost tours make great networking events, club meetings, conference breakouts, significant anniversaries, girls’/guys’ night out, family vacations, sports teams celebrations, wedding festivities… or just because you want to see the dark side of Saint Louis!
With our private St Louis Ghosts tour, even regular nights become unforgettable memories, and special occasions are made that much more special.
After all, there’s nothing normal about the paranormal, and nothing usual about the unusual. Booking a group tour with St Louis Ghosts means ensuring your Saint Louis group experience is fun, factual, historic, haunted, and unlike anything else in the Gateway City.

SCHOOL TOURS
Showing students a different side of saint louis..
Field trips and educational tours in St. Louis tend to involve a brisk walk through the Missouri History Museum and a brief stop at botanical gardens. As both local and visiting educators know, these tours often don’t do justice to the immense, rich history of the Gateway City. Our St Louis Ghosts tour shines a light on history in an informative, interactive format that is supremely memorable.
Students will be enthralled by the stories our guides relate as they tell the horrid histories that St Louis has built up over the centuries. The legacy of exploration and invention that pervades Saint Louis are all brought alive by memorable ghost stories. The Frontier adventures that ended in disaster and the ancient civilizations that St Louis rests upon. The great brewing families’ troubled history and role in prohibition.
The tour brings students to the actual sites of the hauntings, but it doesn’t stop there. Through engaging, incredible stories, we show them a side of these places that isn’t in their textbooks. We find being there helps lodge the history in young minds and increases recall.
For educators, the following section has answers to some frequently asked questions about our tour.
If you have any other questions, comments, or concerns about the nature of our tours, please feel free to contact us.
Frequently Asked Questions
“St Louis Ghosts” sounds unsettling. Is your tour appropriate for all students?
Don’t let the spooky name fool you: our tour is appropriate for students of all ages, grade levels, and backgrounds. We can accommodate K-12 students and college groups alike.
How can a ghost tour also be good for early grades?
As we’re well aware of our tour’s potentially frightening nature, we can adjust what stories we tell, and in what detail, for groups of smaller children.
We want your students to enjoy our tour as much as we enjoy it—not be so scared that they can’t focus.
What’s the educational value of this tour?
Unlike the stereotypical ghost tour, our tour isn’t all scare and no substance.
We cover, in detail, the historical background of every location we visit. In the interest of accuracy, the stories on our tour are also backed by research. We strive to balance educational content with entertainment—we don’t tell merely tall tales, but fact-based accounts.
During our tours, our guides provide the right balance between learning and excitement. They don’t lecture, nor do they over-act.
At St Louis Ghosts, we share your passion for your students’ education. We want your students to leave our tour having had a fun and memorable time, having learned more about our nation’s history, the role of Saint Louis, and knowing more about figures from our history in the process.
What about the actual stories? Is there any disturbing subject matter?
Please rest assured: regarding content, our tour does not cover any material more sensitive, upsetting, or disturbing than what’s already discussed in most history textbooks. We do not go to great lengths to sensationalize the history of the sites we visit; it’s dramatic enough as it is.
