After India's independence in 1947, the state was merged with the 'United State of Kathiawar', and eventually became part of Gujarat. The last King of Porbandar was Natwarsinhji Bhavsinhji Maharaj. The city of Porbandar is dotted with numerous religious places and historical buildings which stand as a reminder of the glorious bygone era. The uniqueness of Porbandar city is that it is constructed of a special type of white soft stone hence it is popularly known as 'White City'. 6. Porbandar Bird Sanctuary

The Porbandar Bird Sanctuary refuge is a refuge that is situated in the middle of the city. It is one of the tiniest bird sanctuaries in India and a must-see attraction while visiting Porbandar. This unusual water-dwelling, which covers a square kilometre and is bordered by trees and plants, was designated as a sanctuary in 1988 under the control of the Porbandar municipality.

The instigator of the creation of this sanctuary was a renowned naturalist by the name of Peter Jackson. The sanctuary was then transferred to the Forest Department in 1990, and as a result, it was listed under Section 18 of the Gujarat State Government’s Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.

It is the only bird sanctuary in the nation where humans and nature have co-created an exceptional environment. This modest bird sanctuary serves as a conservatory for about 150 kinds of birds and is located on the edge of a small lake.

Local species and migrating birds both call the refuge home. Flamingos, Grebes, Pelicans, Ducks and geese, Avocets, Coots, Cormorants, Herons, Egrets, Bitterns, Storks, Ibis, Spoonbills, Cranes, Whistling Teals, Gulls, Terns, Jacanas, Ruff, Red shanks, Indian roller, and many other species of flying, fluffy creatures are all readily seen.

The temple is open from 6:30 AM to 8:30 PM and the entry is free of cost.

Shri Hari temple is one of the most beautiful temples in Porbandar and it is located at a distance of 8 km from Porbandar railway station. The temple covers 85 acres of land and its height is 105 feet. The temple comprises 66 pillars and there are idols of numerous Hindu deities like Goddess Durga, Lord Ganesh, Lord Krishna, Goddess Parvati, etc. There is also an auditorium and it used for cultural and spiritual activities.

4) Chowpatty Beach – One of the Serene Beaches in Gujarat

It is an ancient cave located at a 17 km distance from Porbandar railway station. There are more than 50 Shivalinga’s naturally formed in the Jambuvan cave. Jambuvan cave is believed to be the resting place of warrior Jambuvan who played an important role in Ramayana and Mahabharat. Inside the cave, you can find two tunnels where one leads to Dwarka and the other leads to Junagadh , and every year a big fair is celebrated at this place.
