10 Record Store Day 2024 Releases to Cop
We love a good record my bro ayyyy lmao.
You are reading your free article for this month. Members-only
If there’s a single phrase that describes how vinyl aficionados and their wallets feel in the weeks leading up to Record Store Day , it has to be the great (albeit fictional) philosopher Carl “CJ” Johnson’s catchphrase: “Ah sh*t, here we go again.”
Since its inaugural edition in 2007, every Record Store Day has served up a cornucopia of limited-edition goodies, notable for both their collectability — most pressing runs are well below 5,000 — and the general rarity of the music on display, much of which either hasn’t been released on vinyl before or, is returning in celebration of an anniversary or presents an alternate iteration of time-honored classics.

COSTA RICA'S LEADING ENGLISH LANGUAGE NEWSPAPER
Netflix Spends $1.2M on Security for Costa Rica Filming
Costa rica denies receiving asylum seekers from the uk, costa rica among nations targeted for uk’s asylum seeker deportation plan, costa rican farmers stand up against government overreach, costa rica invests in la radial de alajuela to enhance tourism and reduce traffic, panama candidate mulino vows to close darién jungle to migrants.
Presidential candidate José Raúl Mulino, the protégé of former President Ricardo Martinelli who leads the polls for the May 5 elections in Panama, promised on Tuesday to “close” the Darién jungle to migrants heading to the United States.
“We are going to close Darién and we are going to repatriate all these people as appropriate, respecting human rights,” Mulino told reporters during an electoral tour of Las Mañanitas, a working-class suburb of the Panamanian capital.
The 266 km long and 575,000 hectare jungle border between Colombia and Panama has become in recent years a corridor for migrants trying to reach the United States from South America.
More than 520,000 people, mostly Venezuelans, crossed the inhospitable jungle in 2023. This year more than 120,000 have made the journey, according to official figures.
“The U.S. border instead of Texas has moved to Panama. So we have to do trilateral work [among the United States, Colombia and Panama] and they have to understand that Panama is not a country of transit for immigrants,” said Mulino, who was Martinelli’s Minister of Security (2009-2014).
Mulino did not say what measures he would take to close the passage through Darién.
I cannot pardon Martinelli
The 64-year-old lawyer denied that if he wins the presidency, he will pardon Martinelli, who took asylum two months ago in the Nicaraguan embassy to avoid a sentence of almost 11 years in prison for money laundering. President Daniel Ortega immediately granted him asylum, but the Panamanian government denied him safe conduct to leave for Managua.
After the conviction, the Electoral Tribunal disqualified Martinelli as a candidate at a time when he was leading the polls and was replaced by Mulino, his running mate for the vice presidency.
“First, I cannot grant pardons for this. Second, what he [Martinelli] wants is a review of his process with justice and to be able to clarify his innocence and prove that the whole trial was a farce to put him outside the electoral race,” said Mulino.
“The [Panamanian] government has shown that it is going to respect it [the Nicaraguan Embassy]. Let’s not have what happened in Ecuador, right? And that is good,” added Mulino, alluding to the police assault on the Mexican legation in Quito on April 5 to arrest former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas.
Despite his conviction, Martinelli has the support of many Panamanians who remember with nostalgia the country’s economic bonanza during his government.
It would be a farce
Less than 20 days before the elections, Mulino has the highest voting intention (34%), followed by fellow opposition and center-right lawyer Ricardo Lombana (15%) and former social democrat president Martín Torrijos (13%), according to a Doxa poll published on Monday.
Eight candidates are competing in the elections, which are decided by simple majority in a single round. However, Mulino faces a judicial hurdle, as the Supreme Court is reviewing a lawsuit over his direct appointment as presidential candidate by Martinelli, without going through party primaries, as established by the electoral code.
“If my candidacy is annulled, for whatever reasons the Court wants, they are going to annul the electoral process, because the process would be a farce if they take me out, as I am the one who is marking first in all the polls,” said Mulino.
So far there is no announced date for the Court’s decision. Mulino was in preventive detention between 2015 and 2016 for alleged corruption, but the Supreme Court annulled the case due to procedural errors.
During the Manuel Antonio Noriega dictatorship (1983-1989), he was one of the leaders of the Civilist Crusade that opposed the general. He later served as foreign minister for President Guillermo Endara (1989-1994) after the U.S. invasion that overthrew Noriega in 1989.

The Cult announce 40th anniversary UK tour for winter 2024
The dates conclude with a stop at London’s Royal Albert Hall
The Cult have announced details of a UK tour, which will celebrate their 40th year as a band. Find upcoming dates and ticket details below.
Announced today (April 16), the shows are set for later this year and will see the iconic ‘80s rock group perform in 10 cities across the country. The dates come in celebration of a huge milestone for Ian Astbury and co., as this year marks four decades since the band formed as we recognise them today – swapping their name from the original title ‘Death Cult’ into ‘The Cult’.
“Following up from the great energy of Death Cult 8323 shows, I’m looking forward to bringing that sense of celebration of the band’s music, and the communion with our fans, to Cult 8424,” guitarist Billy Duffy said of the new announcement. “CFFC. Let the ceremony commence!”
The shows all take place this winter, and kick off on October 21 with an opening night at the De Montfort Hall in Leicester. This is followed the next night with a gig at Swansea Arena (22), followed by stops in Edinburgh (24), Manchester (25), Bristol (27), York (29) and Newcastle (30).
The final run of the new tour dates will take place in the first week of November; including a slot at Guildhall in Portsmouth on the 1st, and a show at Civic Hall in Wolverhampton the following night. The dates wrap up with a closing show at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London on November 4.
Tickets go on sale this Friday (April 19) at 10am BST. Visit here to get tickets and find a full list of tour dates below.
The Cult 2024 tour dates are:
Recommended.
OCTOBER 21 – Leicester, De Montfort Hall 22– Swansea, Swansea Arena 24 – Edinburgh, Usher Hall 25 – Manchester, O2 Apollo 27 – Bristol, Beacon 29 – York, Barbican 30 – Newcastle, O2 City Hall
NOVEMBER: 1 – Portsmouth, Guildhall 2 – Wolverhampton, Civic Hall 4 – London, Royal Albert Hall
The dates for 2024 come following a tour the band embarked on last year, celebrating 40 years since their first formation under the name ‘Death Cult’ .
Taking place around the UK, Ireland and the US, the tour was called ‘Death Cult 8323’ and saw Duffy and Astbury return to play iconic venues they previously performed in at the start of their career.
The live shows focused on Death Cult and their eponymous EPs, and also boasted a setlist that spanned “the three phases of the band, from Southern Death Cult, to Death Cult, and The Cult’s first two albums: ‘Dreamtime’ (1984) and ‘Love’ (1985).”
More recently, Billy Duffy joined Johnny Marr on stage in Frome last summer to play tracks by The Smiths and Depeche Mode .
The on-stage appearance was the latest of the multiple times the two musicians have joined forces, as they both have a long history of playing music together – stemming back to their adolescent years.

We can’t wait to join them again this summer.”
This year, Montreux will reveal a brand new layout while construction work is carried out on the Convention Centre, which usually hosts the festival’s main stages.
Attendees will instead get to enjoy The Lake Stage, which has been constructed over the surface of Lake Geneva with the stunning backdrop of the Alps. There couldn’t be a better time, then, to invite rock legends Deep Purple – whose song “Smoke on the Water” was inspired by the fire that burnt down the Montreux Casino in the Seventies – back to perform for the 10th time.
On the same stage, fans will get to witness the vocal prowess of British singer RAYE, who swept the Brit Awards this year with a record-breaking six wins, along with Grammy-nominated singer and rapper Janelle Monae. Trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack return after a five-year break, while Air will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their cult album Moon Safari by performing the record in its entirety.
Among the many other artists set to perform on the Lake Stage are Eighties synth-pop titans Duran Duran and Soft Cell, jazz artists Diana Krall and Jamie Cullum, and British pop, funk and dance artists Michael Kiwanuka, Jungle, Jessie Ware and Paolo Nutini.
Over at the Casino Stage, Dionne Warwick will finally make her Montreux Jazz Festival debut, while hip-hop revolutionary André 3000 will perform compositions from his flute album, New Blue Sun . Swedish Eurovision champion Loreen, the only woman to win the annual song contest twice, is also being welcomed by the festival, along with jazz artist Laufey, Chicago rapper and poet Noname, drummer Yussef Dayes, R&B star Mahalia, and soul-rock queen Brittany Howard.
Montreux is also hosting 11 free stages for music fans to discover, from the Memphis jazz club and its storied jam sessions to the Bibliotheque and the cinema screening room.
Tickets are on-sale from 19 April at 11am BST: www.montreuxjazzfestival.com/en/programme .
