Lauryn Hill sells out Mystic Lake Casino Amphitheater in Minnesota

Considered one of the best albums of all time, Lauryn Hill brought the celebration of her album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” to Mystic Lake in Prior Lake, Minnesota.

The question many asked was, will she show up? And if she does show up, will she be on time? Well, Ms. Hill showed up and was actually close to on time, but other audio/technical difficulties pushed the show to start 2 hours late. Unfortunately, the sound problems continued into the set as well. The eight-time Grammy award-winning songstress took the stage in a colorful pantsuit with multi-colored hair to match. As she walked out from behind a long flowing blue curtain, the crowd screamed when she directed the band to play her hit song “Everything Is Everything.”

Ms. Hill came with real live music. To hear her vocals, see her direct the band, and continuously tell the sound man to turn her up was a matter of true perfectionism. She moved some audience members to tears when she sang her song “To Zion,” which is a love song to her oldest son. A highlight of the show was when her son YG Marley graced the stage, and Ms. Hill began to yell, “Put the spotlight on my son.” YG belted out the song “Freedom” as his mother watched in awe and with a big smile. After he finished the music, the mother and son embraced one another and laughed.

Lauryn finished the show with her hits along with the group The Fugees , “Tell Him,” “Killing Me Softly,” Ready or Not,” and Fugee La. With the announcement of the Lauryn Hill & Fugee tour, you want to attend this show.

What are they lies. There always has to be a negative Nancy.

I went to the concert with my sister and although she was late ( it’s an organic thing for her creative process) she came out with Everything is Everything. The music fed my soul. I wish I could have heard her sing Killing me softly with a little less background music. The fellow Fugee member that showed up ( jealous of the cities that get the iconic trio next month).. She Is

She should apologize to everyone that was at the show, waiting for her to show up, she yelled at her band,at the crew, she is a very mean person, don’t know why anyone would want to hear her

It was horribleand she was dressed like Mr. Brown. I was relying on the 11pm casino bus to get home had to leave early in order to get home due to her lack of being on time. I personally feel she has not overcome all of the things that affected her mental health . She needs more time to get it together. Praying for her

It wasn’t all that I’m with the ppls she should of apologized for being 2hours late she didn’t sound like she used too I watch her other performance in New York she did very well but me an my sister left early it was a waste of money I expected more from her..yes she was mean !!!!

I was at the show with my daughter we had a great time. She was late but it was a Beautiful night. Her singing and rapping were on point she even did an encore.

I was there and there is no lies in this story. When I arrived at the venue at 7 she was still on stage doing sound check so we could not go to our seats until about 7:20. The stage was still being set-up at 8 and there was not many people in attendance at that time. Now she could have removed her DJ from the show so that it wouldn’t have started at 10 but she didn’t. The sound was horrible and she was trying to correct it the whole show. She came with a full band with strings and horns. The speaker by me went out and I could barely hear her so I left.

Five-time Grammy winner Lauryn Hill has announced a 25th anniversary tour for her iconic debut solo album, 1998’s “Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” Hill’s former group the Fugees, who abruptly canceled a planned 25th anniversary tour around their multiplatinum album “The Score“ album last year, will open only the U.S. dates, presumably because of member Pras Michel’s legal challenges stemming from his recent conviction on international conspiracy charges.

The 17-date tour will hit arenas around the world, including Brooklyn’s Barclays, Chicago’s United Center, the Kia Forum in Los Angeles as well as in Australia, New Zealand, and more (full dates below). The Fugees will reunite for their first tour in years to co-headline the tour on all U.S. and Canadian dates. The trio announced a world tour in 2021 and played a concert in New York that September , but all other dates were canceled.

With its pioneering fusion of R&B, hip-hop and pop, “Miseducation” was one of the most influential albums of the 1990s. Entered into the Library of Congress in 2015, it was the first hip-hop album to receive an album of the year Grammy Award, and made Hill the first woman to be nominated for 10 Grammy awards in one year and the first woman to win five Grammys in one night. However, she has only released one album since then — an “MTV Unplugged” concert recorded in 2001 — although she has toured frequently.  

“I loved music, I loved people, I truly felt grateful to God for my life, and genuinely blessed to have a platform where I could share wisdom and perspective through music,” she continues. “I felt a charge to challenge the idea that certain kinds of expression and/or certain kinds of people didn’t belong in certain places. I loved showing what could work or happen provided there was imagination, creativity and LOVE leading the way.”

Citi is the official card of the tour. Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets beginning Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time until Thursday at 10 p.m. local time through the Citi Entertainment program. Lauryn Hill will reunite with Fugees for ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ 25th Anniversary Tour

Girl, you know you better watch out! Lauryn Hill is going on tour.

"The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" singer is marking the 25th anniversary of her debut solo album with a 17-stop international tour. The Fugees will co-headline some of the U.S. stops with her.

Hill's debut album won five Grammys in 1999, including album of the year, the first time a hip-hop album won the coveted award, and it garnered 10 nominations.

"'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' is and was a love song to my parents, my family, my people, my musical and cultural forebears, my teachers, my loves, my Creator," the 48-year-old singer said in a release announcing the news.

"I wrote love songs and protest songs — (still love songs) about the subjects and interests that inspired and moved me," she continued. "I was confident that what inspired me would resonate with an audience that had been led to believe that songs of that kind could only live in the past.”

The tour starts Sept. 8 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and ends Nov. 9 in Seattle.

Tickets open to Citi cardmembers two days before, though, on Wednesday, Aug. 23 and those tickets are live no w through Aug. 24.

Ms. Lauryn Hill is hitting the road, and this time she’s bringing along some very special guests — the Fugees . In honor of the 25-year anniversary of her landmark album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill , she will be embarking on her first world tour since 2020’s Ms. Lauryn Hill Live in Concert trek, she announced on Tuesday (Aug. 22).

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 25th Anniversary Tour kicks off at Mystic Lake in Minneapolis, Minn., on Sept. 8, and closes in Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on Nov. 9.

Lauryn Hill Hosts Surprise Six-Song Fugees Reunion at Roots Picnic

Grammy-winning reggae star Koffee will open on her stops in Australia Oct. 3 and Oct. 5. Fugees — the Grammy-winning, genre-bending musical collective of which Hill is a part along with Wyclef Jean and Pras — will reunite for their first tour in years to co-headline all U.S. and Canadian dates. ( Pras was convicted in April in his political conspiracy case, and could face up to 20 years in prison . The announcement did not address whether the rapper will join the tour.)

There are currently 17 total dates for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 25th Anniversary Tour.

Over the past few months, Ms. Lauryn Hill has made a number of appearances at performances across the United States to celebrate the album’s anniversary. At Hip-Hop 50 Live at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, N.Y., Hill surprised attendees as a guest during Nas’ set. She wore a hot pink blazer and staggeringly high stilettos as she tore through a medley of her biggest solo and Fugees hits. In June, Hill headlined the Roots Picnic festival, reuniting with the Fugees for the first time since 2021.

Ms. Lauryn Hill Reunites With Fugees for Tour Celebrating 25 Years of ‘Miseducation’ Album

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill turns 25 this year — and Ms. Lauryn Hill is reuniting with Fugees on the road to celebrate.

On Tuesday, the rap legend announced that she’ll embark on a U.S. arena tour to celebrate her solo magnum opus and will be joined by Pras and Wyclef Jean for a reunion of Fugees after a brief performance at Roots Picnic in June.

“ The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is and was a love song to my parents, my family, my people, my musical and cultural forebears, my teachers, my loves, my Creator,” Hill said in a press release. “I wrote love songs and protest songs— (still love songs) about the subjects and interests that inspired and moved me. I was confident that what inspired me would resonate with an audience that had been led to believe that songs of that kind could only live in the past.”

After a number of music festival appearances in September and early October, Ms. Lauryn Hill will be joined by Fugees starting Oct. 17 in Newark, NJ, before making stops in New York City, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Oakland.

On Oct. 2, Hill announced additional dates for the tour, including stops in cities such as St. Louis, Atlanta, Tampa, and Miami. The tour is set to end on Dec. 13 in Boston. General tickets for the new dates go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. local time.

Fugees reunited at Roots Picnic in June, performing some of the group’s biggest hits. The reunion marked the first time the trio had all performed together since  their one-off New York City gig  in Sept. 2021. A  reunion tour celebrating the group’s 25th anniversary  was planned, but Fugees  postponed  and  ultimately canceled  the shows, citing the Covid-19 pandemic.

Iconic artist Ms. Lauryn Hill has unveiled The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 25th Anniversary Tour, a celebration of her groundbreaking 1998 solo debut album. With the album’s release anniversary just around the corner, the tour will revisit the heartfelt music that resonated with countless fans. The 17-date tour will grace global arenas, including Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Chicago’s United Center, and Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, along with stops in Australia and New Zealand. Notably, The Fugees will also take the stage, co-headlining the tour’s US and Canadian dates, marking their first tour in years.

“The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill  is and was a love song to my parents, my family, my people, my musical and cultural forebears, my teachers, my loves, my Creator,” said Hill. “I wrote love songs and protest songs— (still love songs) about the subjects and interests that inspired and moved me. Ms. Lauryn Hill announces US ‘The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill’ anniversary tour with Fugees

The tour will be co-headlined by Hill's previous band, the Fugees

Ms. Lauryn Hill has announced a North American tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of her debut album ‘ The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill ‘.

The former Fugees member will be performing her 1998 Grammy award-winning album on a 12-run tour across America this autumn. Stops include Minneapolis, Newark, Brooklyn, Washington, Philadelphia, Toronto, Chicago, Fort Worth, Denver, Los Angeles, Oakland and Seattle.

Hill will be co-headlining the tour with Fugees. Citi card members will have access to presale tickets from tomorrow (August 23) at 10am until Thursday, August 24 at 10pm through the Citi Entertainment program . Tickets will go on general sale on Friday (August 25) at 10am. Visit here to purchase tickets for the shows.

Hill recently performed her debut album in full back in June as part of  The Roots ‘ festival The Roots Picnic. Fugees hosted a surprise reunion as part of Hill ‘s set .

The Roots served as her backing band for the performance, she was then joined by Fugees bandmates Pras Michel and Wyclef Jean and performed six tracks including ‘Killing Me Softly’, ‘Ready Or Not’ and ‘Zealots’.

The unexpected mini-reunion came after the band  cancelled their planned 25th anniversary tour in January 2022, with Michel then convicted for his involvement in a billion-dollar Malaysian money laundering scheme  in April.

Ms. Lauryn Hill will embark on a 25th anniversary tour of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill this fall. The reunited Fugees will co-headline the North American dates, which include big shows at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and Kia Forum in Inglewood. ( Pras is awaiting sentencing for federal crimes including conspiracy, witness tampering, and failing to register as an agent of China; no date has been set.) Fugees reunited last September and again this June at Roots Picnic . Back before the pandemic , Hill’s 20th anniversary tour of Miseducation was partly derailed by cancellations and postponements due to illness.

Lauryn Hill & Fugees Detail ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ 25th Anniversary Tour

Lauryn Hill  will head out this fall on a world tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of her landmark album,  The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill . On stops in the U.S. and Canada, Lauryn Hill will co-headline with the group that brought her to international prominence, The Fugees .

Obviously, the elephant in the room for this tour is the involvement of Fugees’  Pras Michel . Back in 2021, the trio of Hill, Michel, and Wyclef Jean  attempted to mount a tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Score . Unfortunately, the group staged only one concert—a 45-minute set at NYC’s  The Rooftop at Pier 17 —before indefinitely postponing , and eventually scrapping , the tour, allegedly due to COVID concerns.

Fast forward nine months after the cancelation, and it became public that Pras Michel was under investigation by the federal government for his work as an unregistered foreign agent, which could be another explanation for the canceled tour. Among the charges against the rapper were campaign finance violations, money laundering, illegal lobbying, witness tampering, and lying to banks, partially in connection to the multi-billion dollar 1MD Malaysian money laundering scandal. In April of this year, he was found guilty on ten felony counts and faces up to 20 years in prison. He has not yet been sentenced as of this tour announcement.

Despite his conviction, Pras in June joined Wyclef and Lauryn for an impromptu Fugees mini-set during Hill’s headlining set at Philadelphia, PA’s Roots Picnic . Following the performance, Questlove seemed to address the legal woes hanging over Pras when he wrote on Instagram,

“[Ms. Lauryn Hill] did us a solid by not only letting us celebrate with her the classic [ Miseducation of Lauryn Hill ] but she also made a moment by bringing together her bredren [Wyclef Jean] and [Pras Michel]……in what could possibly be one of the last times we will see this institution together in this setting.” In light of today’s announcement, it appears as if those sentiments were premature.

As for the tour itself, Ms. Lauryn Hill will begin the journey in Australia and New Zealand for dates with Koffee . She arrives on domestic stages beginning October 17th in Newark when she links up with the rest of the Fugees. The 11-date North American leg includes shows at arenas in Brooklyn, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Chicago, Fort Worth, Denver, L.A., and Oakland before wrapping in Seattle. There’s also a lone date in Canada, October 26th in Toronto, which seems brazen for Pras as he awaits sentencing on ten felonies.

Tickets for  The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill  25th anniversary tour with Fugees go on sale on Friday at 10 a.m. local venue time via Ticketmaster , with various pre-sales beginning Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time.

This year, Ms. Lauryn Hill ‘s beloved album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill turns 25, and in celebration, she will perform the album in its entirety on a 17-date world tour beginning Sept. 8 in Minneapolis and wrapping Oct. 19 in Seattle. As an added bonus, the Fugees will co-headline all the North American dates, a year-and-a-half after canceling a planned reunion tour.

As a precursor to the upcoming dates, Hill performed with fellow Fugee members Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia. The trio played six songs, including the hits “Ready or Not,” “Killing Me Softly,” and “Fu-Gee-La.” Aside from a 2021 gig at  New York’s Rooftop at Pier 17 , Hill, Jean, and Michel hadn’t been on stage together since 2006.

Unfortunately, Michel’s legal issues continue to hang over the group’s future. In April, he was found guilty of 10 counts of conspiracy, witness tampering, and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government (China). The charges stemmed from his role in a $100 million scheme to influence American politics, as   SPIN  previously reported. Michel was originally charged in 2019 and faces up to 20 years in prison when sentenced later this year.

Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets tomorrow (Aug. 22) at 10:00. The general ticket sale begins Friday at 10 am local time.

On Friday night, fans waited for one hour and 55 minutes for her to hit the stage at Mystic Lake Casino Amphitheater, where she was celebrating the silver anniversary of her landmark disc.

The word is that Hill takes the stage not when she's scheduled but when she's feeling right, when her spirit is right, when her all biorhythms are right. Her 8 p.m. concert meant that DJ Reborn introduced herself as the opening act at 9:08 and treated nearly 7,000 patient, pot-smoking people to 40 minutes of hip-hop party music.

Then it was star time. Well, actually, there were a couple of false starts where the band was ready but the singer was not. Finally, Hill arrived, wrapped in a giant navy bow around her bright diamond-patterned suit, a pile of colorful braids and beads atop her head and glowing pink eyeshadow. "Now everything is everything," she sang to open the program. "What is meant to be, will be. After winter, must come spring. Change, it comes eventually."

"Everything Is Everything," a track from "Miseducation," is, like much of that album, political and personal, part soul song, part hip-hop jam.

"Now hear this mixture, where hip hop meets scripture," she barked at the end of a long rap in "Everything Is Everything." "Develop a negative into a positive picture."

Over the course of a too-fast 85 minutes, Hill, 48, proved that she is arguably the fiercest female rapper on the planet. Fast, aggressive, spitting bars like she meant it, r's rolling off her tongue. She's also a distinctively soulful singer, though her voice sounded a bit strained at times.

This may not have been Hill's best Twin Cities performance — her 2016 First Avenue concert was longer and more satisfying — but there were enough transcendent moments to fortify her legend as a towering figure in the neo-soul pantheon.

One trait that supported her legend was her assertiveness as a bandleader. Fronting a too-large-for-the-stage ensemble that included five keyboard players, five horn blowers (including tuba), a string section (with conductor), three backup singers and two hypemen, she often signaled anxiously to musicians or crew members both during and between songs. Was she unhappy with a particular performance/tempo or just her in-ear monitors?

In the middle of "Killing Me Softly," (the Roberta Flack hit that Hill's group the Fugees covered in 1996), she called a halt and turned to the musicians with some instructions. Then they restarted where she'd left off. The interruption said more about her striving for the right vibe than for scripted precision.

Mining a fuller, richer and often more bottom-heavy sound, Hill performed several numbers from "Miseducation," including "Doo Wop (That Thing)," "To Zion" and her rendition of Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" (she's a Jersey girl, after all). She trotted out one of her sons, Joshua, aka YG Marley, to sing "Marching to Freedom." And she slipped in "Fu-Gee-La," a sprightly tune from the Fugees as the pre-encore and the night's highlight.

Hill seemed to conclude the show after an impassioned reprise of the chorus of "Fu-Gee-La." But the crowd coaxed her for an encore, Bob Marley's "Turn Your Lights Down Low," which was the perfect mix of a Marley reggae groove and Hill's buoyant spirit. At her insistence, Fugees bassist and producer Jerry Wonda, who apparently lives near the Twin Cities, joined her onstage for a bow.

Hill will reunite with the Fugees for 11 much-anticipated shows starting Oct. 17, their first tour in 25 years. Talk about waiting.
