M’Hamid is known to be the “City of Gazelles”, located near the southeastern border of Morocco edging the desert. The place is the last haven of the Draa Valley prior to the arid and immense expanses of the Hamada. M’Hamid is a town with the perfect location to warmly welcome guests like you as you travel and explore the road with several kasbahs or the Sahara all day.
The city of M’Hamid was considered a grand caravan destination before it eventually fell into its tranquil state today. It was also once a lonesome sanctuary but those days are now over. This Sahara desert village located in the heart of the Zagora region is one of the spots where the Sahara begins, the other one is the Merzouga .

- 2. How to Reach M’Hamid
This place is the true Sahara Desert and is the best place for you to experience Moroccan travel and Sahara Trek. It is an arguably authentic part of the Sahara Desert. To reach M’Hamid, it would take you 5hrs from Ouarzazate and 7-8hrs from Marrakesh. Bounou is the original name of M’Hamid. The place evolved from the combination of the local tribes of Drawa, Hassani, and Ait Atta Berbers.
You can find a Kasbah 2 kilometers away from the main road. Aside from this, the major attraction here is the Chigaga Erg dunes which are located 50 kilometers from the town. Moreover, trips to the desert is also a popular attraction. There are overnight and several day tours that you can choose from either via camel, motorbike, 4X4, or quad bike.
Shelters and Excursions in the Desert
You will surely have unforgettable moments on your day trips to the Sahara. You can go on for many days and experience how the nomadic Saharious live. These are the blue men of the Sahara who will guide you amid the dunes and unveil their traditions and cultures if you would want to listen to them.
From M’Hamid, you can go for an adventure in Chigaga Erg. These dunes are absolutely splendid and can be reached by a 4WD only after 45-minute trekking. This place is quite far from civilization so it makes a great set up for encampments. You can also visit the Lehoudi Erg not very far from this place. It is much bigger so there is no need for a 4-wheel drive just to get there.
The ancient lake of Iriki is on the east of M’Hamid near Foum Zguid is great for excursions across the desert. It is an ideal spot for desert trekking. You can also walk to the north of M’Hamid which is Draa Valley. You can reach the oases of Ouled Driss for about 6 kilometers.
How to Reach M’Hamid
It is from the Ouarzazate where the nearest international airport is located and that is about 170 kilometers. Just like other cities in Morocco, you can reach M’Hamid via bus or taxi. Once you are already here, you can have a lot of activities and things to do especially if you will rent a car. It is a 5-hour drive from Ouarzazate.

Theatres in Moscow
Cultural life of Moscow city is various and rich! Operas, ballets, symphonic concerts... Russian composers have created some of the most beautiful classical music. Russian classical music is very popular in Moscow. It is performed in many beautiful historical venues. Do not forget to include a visit to a concert hall in your itinerary when you are planning your stay in Moscow! And do it in advance.
There are almost no restrictions on dress code in Russian theatres. Visitors may wear jeans and sports shoes, they may have a backpack with them. Only shorts are not allowed.
A typical feature of Russian theatre – visitors are bringing a lot of flowers which they present to their favorite performers after the show.
Here are some practical advices where to go and how to buy tickets.
The Bolshoi Theatre
The Bolshoi Theatre is the oldest, the most famous and popular opera and ballet theatre in Russia. The word “Bolshoi” means “big” in Russian. You can buy a ticket online in advance, 2-3 months before the date of performance on the official website . Prices for famous ballets are high: 6-8 thousand rubles for a seat in stalls. Tickets to operas are cheaper: you can get a good seat for 4-5 thousand rubles. Tickets are cheaper for daytime performances and performances on the New Stage. The New Stage is situated in the light-green building to the left of the Bolshoi's main building. The quality of operas and ballets shown on the New Stage is excellent too. However, you should pay attention that many seats of the Bolshoi’s Old and New Stages have limited visibility . If you want to see the Bolshoi’s Old Stage but all tickets are sold out, you can order a tour of the theatre. You can book such a tour on the official website.
If you want, following Russian tradition, to give flowers to the performers at the end of the show, in the Bolshoi flowers should be presented via special staff who collects these flowers in advance.
In August the Bolshoi is closed.
The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre
This theatre is noteworthy. On one hand, it offers brilliant classical opera and ballet performances. On the other hand, it is an experimental venue for modern artists. You can check the program and buy tickets online here http://stanmus.com/ . If you are opera lover, get a ticket to see superstar Hibla Gerzmava . The theatre has a very beautiful historic building and a stage with a good view from every seat. Tickets are twice cheaper than in the Bolshoi.
The Novaya Opera
“Novaya” means “New” in Russian. This opera house was founded in 1991 by a famous conductor Eugene Kolobov. Its repertoire has several directions: Russian and Western classics, original shows and divertissements, and operas of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is very popular with Muscovites for excellent quality of performances, a comfortable hall, a beautiful Art Nouveau building and a historic park Hermitage, which is situated right next to it. You can buy tickets online here http://www.novayaopera.ru/en .
Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center
The Opera Center has become one of the best theatrical venues in Moscow. It was founded in 2002 by great diva Galina Vishnevskaya. Nowadays its artistic director is Olga Rostropovich, daughter of Galina Vishnevskaya and her husband Mstislav Rostropovich, great cellist and conductor. Not only best young opera singers perform here, but also world music stars do; chamber and symphonic concerts, theatrical productions and musical festivals take place here. You can see what is on the program here http://opera-centre.ru/theatre . Unfortunately “booking tickets online” is available in Russian only. If you need help, you can contact us at and we can book a ticket for you.
Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory
These are two major concert halls for symphonic music in Moscow. Both feature excellent acoustics, impressive interior, various repertoire and best performers. You can check the program here http://meloman.ru/calendar/ . You need just to switch to English. Booking tickets online is available only for owners of Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian phone numbers. If you need help, you can contact us and we can book a ticket for you.
Moscow International Performing Arts Center (MIPAC)
This modern and elegant concert hall houses performances of national and foreign symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo instrumentalists, opera singers, ballet dancers, theatre companies, jazz bands, variety and traditional ensembles. Actually, it has three concert halls placed on three different levels and having separate entrances. The President of MIPAC is People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Spivakov, conductor of “Virtuosy Moskvy” orchestra. You can see pictures of the concert halls here http://www.mmdm.ru/en/content/halls . The program is impressive in its variety but is not translated into English. You can contact us at and we can find a performance for you.

“Lively and tasty experience ” Review of White Sun of the Desert
Loved the atmosphere and music. We sat outside in the garden area which was covered and very pretty. Live music and occasional belly dancers not intrusive. Our service was slow. Menus in English were helpful but still there are so many options that it took us a long time to decide. The fried rice dish with young lamb was terrific as were the shrimp dim sum. The sea bass shashlyk was the best- would highly recommend. Portions were large and we could have ordered less than we did. I'm a little disappointed our server didn't tell our party of 7 that we were ordering far too much food to ever finish. Also he brought the tray of 3 dipping sauces for the lamb shashlyk at the end of our meal when we were nearly done which was too bad because they were quite interesting and flavorful but by that time we were all stuffed and couldn't eat anymore. Beyond that (and our hefty 30,000 ruble bill) it was a tasty and very enjoyable meal that we will remember for years to come I'm sure. Wine list with many options but not too many in a lower price range.

The White Sun of the Desert Restaurant is located in Neglinnaya Street. This is one of the oldest streets and famous streets of the town. Moreover, this restaurant is nearby some famous tourist attraction places like, the Bolshoi Theatre, Red Square and The Kremlin. After my business meeting, I and my colleague visited this restaurant to have lunch and drinks. The interior of the restaurant is refreshing and touch of oriental design perk up the ambience of this place. The interior of the house also includes screens which separates the hall in three portions that give the classy look to the restaurant. In one hall, the tables are put on a boat, which looks nice and different concept. Apart from decoration, this restaurant offers delicious food and we ordered Zhauaneh - chicken wings with garlic cream-sauce and drinks. Zhauaneh is the specialty of the house and of course, the taste of the chicken is out of the world. I enjoyed this place and have great food there.
I was not disappointed visiting this legendary restaurant, which celebrated its 16th anniversary this year. The atmosphere, the service and the interiors are very authentic and stylish. But the main forte of the place is surely excellent Uzbek & Central Asian cuisine. Wonderful bread, great soups & salads and the best plov I have ever tasted in my entire life! The deserts of various traditional oriental sweets like nougat, pakhlava, etc. are also worth trying.
The food and service was great. The staff speak Russian which given you are in Moscow is to be expected. Ordering your food is a bit of a lottery as for some reason there are more items on the Russian menu than the English version. Don't be off put though the food and experience is well worth it
Was not in this place for over 12 years: great to tell that it remains as good as it gets! Food is tasty, fresh and well presented. We had probably the best lamb chops ever, not to mention manti. Service is very friendly, as they do want your business. Atmosphere was very accommodating even for our small kids, but that was Saturday lunch time at +29 outside. The whole city was at dachas... Few points to improve: a few mix ups vs our orders, as well as we had to chase our waiter a few times to order things. At the end credit cards were not accepted, probably due to machine set up and only for foreign cards. Overall, remains one of the best in Moscow for asian food with a good service at somewhat high price.

The Darkest Hour 3D Review
- April 11, 2012
Darkest Hour earns mercy points for its approach to intelligent life from elsewhere in the universe, an electrical, nearly invisible species feeding on our resources. Note that humans are also a resource. Extra credit is thus earned for not treating the main cast as invincible. Even they can succumb to the dust-creating suction sourced from these electro-baddies.
The rather ambiguous extraterrestrials make up for the stock cast of characters, including the oppressive jerk, helpless females, and strong, comedic hero. It wouldn’t be Hollywood without them. They wander around Russia, creeping to avoid sight lines, and learning of the hostile invasion. It’s all expository for the sake of the audience.
After five days locked in the back room of a dance club -and still with remarkably well groomed hair- the intrepid crew ventures out, providing the necessary Russian sight seeing and a handful of blasé CG effects to spruce up the monotony. Despite the core interest in the creatures themselves, Darkest Hour is a meandering invasion flop, more concerned with venturing the cast from one location to the next where they just happen to bump into additional survivors. Or, as it usually goes, more eventual victims.
It’s all leading to a contained finale, with a mildly aggressive action sequence involving an out of control bus. Budgetary constraints hamper the scale, keeping the conflict marginalized. Despite worldwide strife, aliens keep to themselves, rarely working in numbers. Maybe they’re just cocky?
A handful of impressive visuals desert Moscow streets, lining it with damaged cars, dust from sucked up humans, and a light wind. It’s all reminiscent of 28 Days Later , but without the emotional toll. Here, it’s about wanting the characters to perish to get it over with, or praying for a zombie invasion to lighten things up beyond a sparking LED or light bulb. [xrr rating=2/5 label=Movie]
Pulled into service for this sci-fi clunker are dual Sony HD cams, the duo presenting an image with zest. While it falters in regards to the richest fine detail, clarity in the image is outstanding. There’s a sense of life and naturalness to the piece that feels completely transparent. Aside from the dimmed color timing, little separates Darkest Hour from the set to the finished product.
That’s not to say it’s perfect, as the flick suffers from errant aliasing in spots, enough to be a bit of a bother when it crops up. Certain wide shots are given a veneer of being filtered, murky and lacking the precision found elsewhere. It’s important to note that despite a lack of definitive facial detail, the glossy look that can hamper many digitally captured features isn’t evident.
Darkest Hour bucks the trend of dwindling black levels with regards to digital, offering exquisite skyline shots and dim alleyways filled with the depth they deserve. Kind to shadow detail, Summit’s Blu-ray presentation never appears murky or lacking finesse, even during those shots with complex effects work. Since the cover of night is critical to the narrative, visual success hinges on the darkness.
Visually, the movie works. That’s the best that can be said about it. Even with limited resources, a pittance compared to most invasion pics, Darkest Hour finds a way to work around limitations. When needed, angles can be employed to scale the images, which the disc (and thus this transparent AVC encode) can spit out effortlessly.
And with the 3D, not so much. This could be one of the worst 3D presentations of a feature film to date. At times, you will need to check your glasses to ensure they are still working. Utterly lifeless – even during dramatic effect shots that show destruction – the depth is as a dead as the city. The camera work is made for specialized low angles, and still this one falls flat. Darkest Hour likes to throw things at the screen, but does so with such haste, there is no time to actually appreciate the thrill. The best at least add a smidgen of slow motion to sell the moment.
The only thing the 3D has going for it are the aliens, which on occasion, do crackle towards the frame effectively. Their merely beams of light poking around so it would be hard to screw up. Their arrival in the city skyline is sold rather impressively too, and marks a 10-second highlight out of a 90-minute movie. [xrr rating=4/5 label=2D-Video] [xrr rating=2/5 label=3D-Video]
Of all the things that could have been done, the most atmospheric element turns out to be the haunting opening credits. It’s spooky, with wavering alien calls that split the directionals wide and scatter into the surrounds. It sets an audio stage for the alien’s mostly audible existence.
Elements produce a little of everything, from a plane panning overhead immediately post-credits to brutal (some might say obnoxious) bass blaring from a club interior. It’s beefier than gunfire which will come later.
Electrified creatures wander, the sound mix capturing their motion during tense stand-offs. They pan and pop lights as they pass, aurally giving away their position. When killed, they shatter. Pieces splatter about in an effective display of exploding E.T. parts. Fun stuff. [xrr rating=4/5 label=Audio]
Director Chris Gorak delves into the world of feature commentaries, certainly the richest of the bonus pieces offered up here. Survivors is a short story that takes place during the invasion, and at 10-minutes, is enough to get your attention. Visualizing an Invasion details the technical aspects of the movie, followed with a handful of deleted/extended scenes. [xrr rating=2/5 label=Extras]
