Zero Mile Marker, Nagpur

It is a monument erected by the British during the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India in 1907. Located in the southeast direction to Vidhya Bhawan the Zero Mile Maker indicates the geographical center of India. This became the benchmark and the point was used to measure all distances. The monument consists of the main pillar made of sandstone, another small stone depicting the GTS Standard Benchmark, and four horses that were added later. The height of the main pillar is 1020.171 feet above the sea level. Located at the center of the country, the British intended to make Nagpur the second capital city.

The site had 24 temples in the past out of which only 18 temples exist and only 4 in good condition. Said to be 250 years old, this is one of the oldest and most frequented Ganesh Temples in the city. In Marathi, the word Tekdi means Hill, so, the name Tekdi Ganapthi is derived from the location of the temple, which is a hilltop. 1. Deekshabhoomi
