The coaches and players of Rock Gold VA are thrilled to bring Rick Waye’s rich tradition of excellence to Virginia travel softball.
Our Virginia-based teams pride themselves in competing to be the best we can be, teaching and playing softball the right way, preparing athletes to be successful both on and off the field, and growing a TEAM>ME mindset.
From our beginning in the fall of 2015 our Virginia travel softball founders in Northern VA, Ryan Buchanan and Shane Sherlund, set off on a mission to create opportunities through sport for the young ladies in our game who had high goals and the desire to put the work in to achieve them. History has proven them successful in that effort.
We believe that the young ladies in our program are valued as people first, and then as students and athletes.
To date, our program has already helped over 60 young women to commit to collegiate softball programs in their continuing efforts to advance their academic and athletic endeavors. We are very proud to say that we have a proven track record of helping so many athletes land in outstanding college programs that include continued softball opportunities.
Rock Gold VA has multiple teams across various ages and is always available to discuss any potential interest on the part of those who love the game and want to be successful at the next level.

Virginia Thunderbolts 2026
Head Coach: Jessica Cassedy
We are the Virginia franchise of the Birmingham Thunderbolts.
Learn more about our travel softball organization, our goals, and what it takes to be a Thunderbolt!
About Virginia Thunderbolts 2026
In 2022, Coach Jessica Cassedy reached a franchise club agreement with the national powerhouse organization, the Birmingham Thunderbolts.
Our team is comprised of 2026 and 2027 graduation year student athletes who not only play the game, but know the game. We teach the fundamentals of softball, accountability, teamwork, and the importance of good work ethic. These skills are essential for success on and off the field. Our philosophy is to develop both the skill and character of our players as we prepare them for their future success in softball.
After several successful seasons, from 2019-2021, under the Virginia Stars baseball organization, this core group of student athletes will help bring in a new era of softball to the Northern Virginia and DC Metro region.
Since 2005, Richard Shea and his organizational team have put together a fantastic, like-minded, and softball focused organization which has produced numerous national championships and college commitments. As a measure of the organization's success, no less than 39 players competing at the 2021 NCAA D1 College World Series were program alum.
Our partnership provides unmatched national recruiting support, premium placement in events and showcases, softball focused organizational leadership, and the ability of our athletes to play with and be developed by the best.

Our Mission
Loudoun Inferno is a girl's fastpitch travel softball organization in the Northern Virginia area. We offer competitive travel team play for girls from ages 8 to 18. Loudoun Inferno travel teams provide players focused training and participate in travel-level doubleheaders and sanctioned tournaments (local and regional). Loudoun Inferno's mission is to improve the softball skills of each travel player, preparing them for their next level of play, while instilling a love of the game.
Our goal is to provide a positive and competitive softball experience. While it is our goal to win, it is not our goal to win at all costs. We want to help our girls develop as players and more importantly as individuals. Our Board and coaching staffs believe in developing a girl’s character through hard work, respect for others, commitment, and teamwork. Our desire is not only to help our girls find success in softball, but also find success in life as they grow in their confidence and character and work toward being productive members of their communities. Creating an environment where our girls can be sound fundamentally, develop lifelong friendships, and have lots of fun will make our players winners on and off the field.
What People are saying about Inferno
"Our daughter has played with Inferno for three years. The coaches in this organization see the player and the girl, and want both to succeed on and off the field. Inferno coaches and families understand that winning is a great goal, but playing the game with dignity and respect is more important. We are proud to be a part of the Inferno family!"

Additional Information
Players should drink, drink, and drink water before, during and after the tryout days. Players should start drinking before tryout days to hydrate their bodies properly. Coaches will monitor the players consumption of water to insure they are drinking. It is a good idea to have Gatorade-like drinks to drink after the tryout so that they may replenish the minerals and vitamins lost via sweat.
Hydration is going to be critical not only for your health but it effects your performance on the field. If you wait until warm up time to start drinking you are 24 hours behind and it’s almost impossible to catch up with this kind of heat.
It is very important that you start hydrating today. Drink plenty of water as well as Gatorade or your favorite sports drink, stay away from soda, tea and other drinks that have caffeine.
Pedialyte is a very good product and has a ton of minerals and electrolytes (and it comes in several delicious flavors).
What to bring — All softball equipment, including glove, bat, helmet and cleats. Catchers should bring all their gear. If you wear a facemask you should bring it.
What to wear — Players should wear normal practice attire and gear including cleats. We recommend that the girls wear pants and not shorts. They may be asked to slide.
Come Early & Be Prepared — Players should arrive early to register and be ready to start 10-15 before tryout start time.
Pitchers — Be prepared to pitch at the tryouts. Let the coaches know the types of pitches you throw.
Catchers — Bring your catchers gear. You may be asked to catch for the pitchers during tryouts.
Top 10 Tips for Players at Tryouts
- Dress like a ball player – Wear softball pants; not shorts. Wear a shirt with your last name on it; not a nickname. If you don't have a shirt with your name, wear something bright and/or as unique as possible. Please wear cleats; not tennis shoes.
- Smile – Act like there's no place in the world you would rather be.
- Talk – Talk with the coaches, other players, on the field and encourage those around you. Look everybody you talk with in the eyes and be a good listener as well.
- Hustle – Whether running onto the field, getting ready to hit or going through drills, hustle and give 100% (with a smile and while talking).
- Leader – Be up front and center. Don't stand in the back or be the last player in the group to go through your drills/stations.
- Take risks – Tryouts are not a place to play it safe. Dive, layout for balls, make off-balanced and hurried throws if you must, swing hard; no wimpy swings. Go big or go home!
- Be self-sufficient – Have everything you might need in your bag. Stay away from your parents. Don't talk with or even look at your parents during tryouts. They're being evaluated too and coaches do not want helicopter parents or parent coaches.
- Look good failing – When you make an error, strikeout or mental mistake, forget about it immediately. Do not have a pity party. Build a bridge and get over it. Laugh it off if you must. And no matter what, do not have a pity party. Some of the most impressive things I've ever seen have been the effort that some players made while failing.
- Ask Questions – If there is something you are unsure of or need clarification on, ask. Do not be quiet and/or shy.
- Have fun! – Let there be no doubt to all those watching that you're having fun playing a game you love, regardless of the outcome! Breathe, relax and be confident. Know that you're giving it your best effort.
- Here is a bonus – Always thank the Coaches and evaluating staff for their time and let them know you will be anticipating a follow-up good or bad.
— Rob Rea - Original Virginia Travel Softball Teams
Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game. —Michael Jordan

Sports Equipment Donation Day
Declutter your basement or empty out your garage of unwanted sports equipment. Donate balls from any sport. Softballs, baseballs, tennis balls, ping-pong balls and so on. Find a happy home for bats, hockey sticks, tennis rackets, golf clubs, and more.
Mark your calendar. On July 22, there will be drop-off points at Braddock, Nottoway, and Wakefield parks. Watch your e-mail and this space for additional details.
All donated equipment will be picked up by Leveling The Playing Field and distributed to under-resourced youth groups, community programs, and schools.
Don't miss out on last-minute game cancelations or field changes.
