Arrive in Phu Quoc Island. Tour guide will pick you up at the airport.

First, we will discover a Sim winery where the myrtle fruit is transformed into Sim wine, one of Phu Quoc’s specials.

Then, we will visit a location of historical significance: Coconut prison .

Next, enjoy swimming time on breathtaking Sao beach, well known for its white sand, and turquoise water. There, you will have time to swim, relax and sunbath.

The next stop will be the Ho Quoc pagoda , built between this mountain and the sea.

Return to your hotel. You will then be free to discover Phu Quoc’s night market .

Day 2: South Island Tour (Lunch, Dinner)

8:30AM Pickup at your hotel. We will first stop at a pearl farm showroom where you will be introduced on how Phu Quoc’s high quality pearls are obtained from oysters.

Then we will head to An Thoi to board our private boat and start our journey to the southern islands.

Fantastic Vietnam Plus Phu Quoc Island - 20 Days

Thank you so much for your help on our trip. We had a lovely time. We loved Hsnoi, our guides were friendly, funny and well informed. We liked the lunch restaurant in Hanoi and they sent us away with a huge amount of food for our son who slept through lunch! The only thing we wished we would have made time for was exploring/ shopping in the Old Quarter. The children lived the water puppets and we all enjoyed the cyclo ride. The stay at the Sofutel was perfect- comfortable and family friendly. The Ha Long bay cruise was amazing. The staff, service, and food in the boat were exceptional. The staff on the bait went above and beyond for our children and we appreciated their help and friendliness. Our time in Saigon was nice as well, TinTin was a fantastic guide with a great sense of humour. We liked the day on the Mekong. We felt that the lunch restaurant was a little run down, the table clothes were dirty and the surrounding garden was junky- but the food was enjoyable. The hotel was ok- a little outdated and not to our standard of 5 star/ but we are greatly appreciative of your efforts to make our family comfortable and happy. Our time at Angkor was perfect and our guide, Lei was kind enough to bring us for lunch straight away as the visa process was very long. Le Zmerufuem was s lovely choice and our stay was very comfortable- I would recommend other travellers to stay there. Thank you again!

Vietnam Romantic Honeymoon and Phu Quoc Island Extension 14-Day Trip

We took the Vietnam Romantic Honeymoon Tour with Legend travel group and enjoyed our trip very much. It was easy to communicate with the office staff before the trip and Mr. Danny was very helpful (and responsive) when we had some issues once we were on the tour itself: when a storm canceled our Ha Long Bay trip, Mr. Danny extended our stay in Hanoi and set up alternate tours for us as well as keeping us updated when one of our guides in another city was running late. In Hanoi and HCMC the daily excursions were with larger groups rather than a private tours like Hue, Hoi An, and Phu Quoc. Legend Travel finds local providers for the tours (and airport pickups) and most of the guides have a deep knowledge of their tour sites and had a decent to excellent ability to communicate in English with us. Tours often included lunch but tended to be at slightly whitewashed tourist style. I may have been a little picky/critical since I grew up with Vietnamese food. The hotels we were booked at were mostly good to quite excellent and in walking distance of local attractions. We were in different hotels than listed for Hanoi (decent hotel) and HCMC (poor experience) so keep in mind that the tier of room may differ from the hotel's descriptions. The breakfast included on the schedule was the hotel breakfast buffet. I imagine that we would have been able to book and build our own tour with some savings but that would require a lot more time and legwork so we were very happy with what was included in our tour package.

I can’t remember guides names but one was excellent the other was difficult to understand, but I am a bit deaf. All the connections were excellent, but it would have better if all tour members were in same hotel so you could socialise in the evening. Would be prepared to pay more for better hotel and meals.

Phu Quoc National Park covers more than a half of Phu Quoc’s northern area. It is well known as an unmissable place on the island for nature lovers. Spanning 340.000 square meters , the national park is home to various kinds of wildlife, including unique flora and fauna, evergreen forest, and lush mountain ranges.

It offers visitors plenty of things to do like hiking, camping, photography, and bird watching. For those who are deeply interested in nature, you may spot some rare species here like silver langurs, otters, slow lories, long-tailed macaques, and hornbills. On the other hand, if you are a more adventurous person, let’s try to test your endurance by a four-hour trek through the dense forest.

2. Sao Beach

Sao beach (Bãi Sao) is one of the most beautiful tropical sandy beaches in Phu Quoc island. Nestled on the coast of An Thoi town, it is 25 km from the center. With smooth sandy shore and clean and clear sea water, it is one of the most visited beaches. The beach looks impressive with the unspoiled beauty of gorgeous landscapes and the beach. Stretching fine sand over 7 km, Sao Beach, or so-called Bai Sao, is considered owning the cleanest and whitest sand on Phu Quoc island.

Its main highlight is a huge number of starfishes moving into the shores every night. Maybe that is the reason why it got the name Sao Beach (Sao means “starfish”). On the beach, you can get wonderful moments like wandering around the beach with your friends, looking for some sea animals on the shore like snails, crabs, and starfishes, or following the small trials to the tropical jungle to see huge trees and listen to beautiful voices of different wild birds.

3. Khem Beach

Khem beach (or Bai Khem in Vietnamese) is nestled in the southern beach on Phu Quoc island. Khem Beach boasts its peaceful beaches, smooth white sand stretches, and calm waters. Its beauty attracts a large number of tourists to the island, especially in summer.

As a private beach, it is most suitable for friend trips and relaxing family. Despite not being spacious, it still seduces anyone’s heart with alluring landscapes. Towards the southern end of Khem Beach, you can find the Fairy Well. Though it is close to the sea, the well still provides fresh water at any time of the day. Besides, the beach also attracts visitors to see the local people’s pearl cages. If you are a jewelry addict, don’t miss this place. 

4. Hon Thom Island 

Hon Thom island is the biggest island in Phu Quoc. It brings a hidden charm that most visitors wish to be back here again. With no electricity grid and consistent telephone connection, the island is truly a getaway from hustle and bustle city. The pure and wild nature of Hon Thom helps you forget all the convenience. On the island, there are many small beaches where you can lie on the sand under the coconut trees, swim or dive in the cool and fresh water.

If you want to spend your whole day here, you will have a chance to experience night fishing and try attractive cuisine. A day in Hon Thom island is like experiencing Robinson’s life on an uninhabited island. You can explore the big and small islands as well as the simple and rustic life of the islanders. If you are lucky, the fishermen will teach you how to catch sea urchin, prepare and bake them for fascinating dishes. Especially, you can try many different games on Hon Thom island like paragliding, skateboarding, and snorkeling.

5. Long Beach

Long Beach stretches 20 kilometers of coastal area in Phu Quoc which is crowded with beachfront resorts and restaurants, cafes and bars. Compared to other islands, the beach remains quite pristine with plenty of soft sands and green palm trees. The beach is divided into 2 areas: the northern and the southern one.

To explore the island, you can easily navigate on foot. But, it is advisable to rent a bicycle or a motorbike to explore more of the beach like pearl farms and traditional fishing villages. The best time to enjoy this beach may be the sunset. Visitors can enjoy the spectacular view from many restaurants and cafes. In addition, you also can try swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling, and immersing in the fresh sea water of Long Beach.

1. flavorful pepper farm.

Visiting Phu Quoc, you will have a chance to enjoy many different delicious dishes. And if you are a food lover, you will realize that the local pepper in these dishes has a different taste to other types because of its spicy flavor and unique aroma. Black pepper is considered a specialty in Phu Quoc. Each year, there are up to 1000 tons produced in this area. To get a better understanding about this kind of pepper, it is highly recommended to visit Phu Quoc pepper farm.

Most of the farms are in quiet, remote, and peaceful areas like in the northern parts or around the central of the island. There are some organized tours to these farms. Coming here, you will have a chance to take some nice photos, talk to the farmers and listen to the way they grow, harvest the pepper as well as the drying process. You can visit the farms all year round, but it is advisable to visit during the harvesting season which lasts from February to July. At this time, you can try to collect different kinds of peppers on your own.

2. Join A Cooking Class

Visitors may feel surprised when knowing that some cooking classes are held right on the island. Particularly, local people often hold these classes in organic farms. In these farms, they produce natural and healthy products without using synthesized fertilizers and chemicals. 

Join these classes, it is more than just cooking. You have a chance to go to the local wet market to shop for the ingredients from very early in the morning. After that, you can learn to cook typical dishes that are considered the essence of Vietnamese cuisine including sizzling pancake, spring rolls, and caramelized pork with fish sauce, etc. For more fun, you can ask tour operators to add a visit to a beer factory or a quick tour to the pepper farm. 3. Dinh Cau Temple

Dinh Cau Temple, also known as Cau Temple, is part lighthouse and part shrine. Built in the 17th century , it has a majestic rock edge that overlooks the sea. From here, you can enjoy spectacular views, listen to the sound of the waves, and also contemplate many large rocks in different shapes. The temple was constructed to worship the God of the Sea and pray to him to protect the fisherman from the danger in the sea.

It doesn’t only impress tourists by some mysterious legends but also its unique beauty. The interior space is truly a masterpiece of intricate and sophisticated architecture. Facing the immense sea, the left of the temple has a white sandy beach while its right side is a harbor of so many colorful boats.

On some special occasions and Lunar New Year , you can witness a lot of local people and fishermen gather here to burn incense and pray. If you don’t plan your trips on these occasions, we suggest visiting the temple after sunset when the view becomes more fascinating than ever.

4. Phu Quoc Prison

Phu Quoc Prison is the place where you can get little knowledge of Vietnam’s turbulent past. During the Vietnam War, thousands of Vietnamese people were imprisoned and tortured here. Nowadays, it becomes a war museum where houses authentic instruments for torture, exhibits of brutal punishments, and photographs of former detainees. Besides, it also owns a retail outlet where local snacks, unique handicrafts, and books writing about the Vietnam War are sold.

If you are really interested in history, don’t forget to see tiger cages where prisoners were kept and subjected to severe weather conditions in a long time, resulting in blindness and pneumonia. Don’t need to pay an entrance fee, you can freely visit the prison and get yourself some things about the famous Vietnam War.

5. Ham Ninh Fishing Village

Ham Ninh fishing village is an ideal place for foreigners who wish to experience something unique in Phu Quoc. The village gives you a chance to know the daily life of hard-working local fishermen and enjoy regional dishes at a reasonable price. In the oldest villages on the island, most people make their living by diving for sea cucumbers and pearls, and fishing. Recently, as tourism gets developed, they also sell food delicacies and handmade souvenirs for better living. Driving 30 minutes from Duong Dong Town, you can enjoy tasty dishes like cucumber soup, boiled flower crab, and tram mushroom. Or if you wish to have a more relaxing experience, you can take a walk around the village, meet the friendly and hospitable villagers and listen to their stories. 

6. Phu Quoc Fish Sauce Factory

Among the Phu Quoc specialties, its fish sauce is quite famous and popular. As one of the typical natural products on the island, it is also exported to other countries in the world and also makes a great contribution to the economy of the region.

In Vietnamese cuisine, fish sauce plays an important role in adding more flavor. Now, there are several fish sauce factories on the island that are open for visitors. So, if you have the chance, don’t forget to visit one of them for a more interesting experience. These factories are mainly located in An Thoi town and Duong Dong town, which is not too far to reach. Arriving here, you will know the process of making fish sauce, take a look at large storage containers to plastic bottles of fish sauces. If you enjoy the taste, you can buy some at the factory for quality products.

III. 4 Fun Things To Do in Phu Quoc

1. phu quoc safari park.

Opened since the end of 2015, Phu Quoc Safari Park is the place to go for those who are looking for fun things to do in Phu Quoc. It has 2 separate areas called Open Zoo and Wildlife Park .

The park is one of the most impressive safari versions in Vietnam with almost 3.000 individuals, 1.200 fauna species and 150 rare animal species from all over the world. You will have a chance to witness some animals like Asian Elephants, Freshwater Crocodile, Bengal Tigers, and Green Iguana, etc.

To go into the deep forest, you will travel on specialized transports. Here, you can see endangered and rare species and experience the feeling of being in the cage and surrounded by roaming animals. Scared but fun, isn’t it? In addition, there are daily interesting activities in the safari park like feeding animals, enjoying animal performances, and photographing nature.

2. Diving and Snorkeling at An Thoi Islands

Though the best time to try diving and snorkeling in Phu Quoc is from November to April, you can explore marine life at any time when the sea is calm and the sun is out. Several spots in Phu Quoc island are suitable for these activities.

However, it is highly recommended to try them at An Thoi Islands. Standing out from other islands, it boasts a wide range of diving areas with a diverse underwater life like plenty of seagrass and sloping coral reefs. Most diving spots here are under 12 meters . There are many agencies providing diving and snorkeling as a part of their tour package. But if you want to experience the best of Phu Quoc marine life, we highly recommend spending at least one day and choosing the top diving operators. 

3. Phu Quoc Pearl Farm

If you don’t know what to buy for your friends, think about high quality items like Phu Quoc pearls. In Phu Quoc Pearl Farms, you will find remarkable pearls and know some information about pearl farming history on the island. The island has a large area of more than 6.000 square meters in land and 4 marine square meters for farming pearls.

To get the pearls, it must go through a complicated process, from implanting oysters, harvesting, cleaning, and cutting them to retrieve pearls. After that, these pearls will be bored, strung or placed on ornaments for decoration. Different products like necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets, etc, can be made from pearls.

There are 2 main pearl farms in Phu Quoc: Quoc An pearl farm and Ngoc Hien pearl farm. You can visit them to see the diversity of products and see how they were made.

4. Duong Dong Market 

Though Phu Quoc houses 6 different markets, Duong Dong market is the largest one in this island. Located in the center of Duong Dong town and on the bank of a river, it is home to many trading activities. This is the most crowded market where you can experience daily life of local people and buy something for yourself. Goods here are quite diverse and abundant.

Apart from vegetables and home appliances, fresh seafood is sold a lot in the market like squid, crab, mackerel, eel, shrimps, etc. As they are newly caught so they are still fresh. There are also dried seafood if you wish to bring home. Besides, it is also quite fun to try bargaining a product with local people. It’s what local people often do to get a better price. If you visit the market in the early morning, you can try delicious dishes of Phu Quoc cuisine like echinus porridge, rice cake, and grilled fish or grilled crabs.

Phu Quoc — Vietnam’s best kept secret?

For those wanting to combine a thirst for adventure with a desire for luxury, you can’t go far wrong with the Regent Phu Quoc .

Situated off the tourist trail on Vietnam ’s Phu Quoc island, this new resort is the Regent brand’s flagship property and knows it: this place is staffed to the brim, immaculately trendy and with acres of sunlit daybeds simply begging to be used. In other words, paradise.

Phu Quoc is perhaps Vietnam’s best kept secret: a tiny, secluded island far to the west, just off the Thai coastline. With resplendent white-sand beaches , miles of blue ocean and a tropical climate to die for, Phu Quoc is a tourist destination on the up.

Though the entire place is slowly being devoured by high-rise hotel developments, they don’t come much nicer – or more luxurious – than the Regent Phu Quoc.

Situated on the southern tip of island’s dreamy west coast (and fully open to the public since April this year), the Regent is pure wish fulfilment at the highest level, boasting multiple restaurants, stellar staff and gorgeous views. Everything needed, in other words, for a long relaxing break.

Every square metre of this place screams relaxation. It’s minimalist in the extreme, designed to blend into the natural landscape: think artfully tended pools of water frothing with koi fish, black stone walkways and glass walls giving out onto jungle and ocean. At the ocean-side itself, hammocks and daybeds perch just by the sea, inviting you to drop in and spend a few hours.

The stand-alone villas are low-rise and discreet, there’s greenery everywhere and calming music plays as you walk down the shaded pathway to the hotel’s restaurant area. Breathe in and feel your blood pressure drop.

Food & drink

The Regent boasts three restaurants that span the gamut between Mediterranean and Vietnamese.

Top of the list is Rice Market: the main one of the bunch, which offers a breakfast that truly has to be seen to be believed. Picture whole rooms dedicated to baking, cold cheeses and meats; there are fruits galore, gallons of coffee and even a station to try traditional Vietnamese pho (noodle soup); basically, it’s the adult’s version of a sweet shop.

For lunch and dinner, it offers up Chinese-Vietnamese fusion food including Wagyu beef salad (ridiculously melt-in-the-mouth), fried rices and all the noodles you could eat: delicious, but a tad heavy on the stomach for those who have overindulged at breakfast.

Not to worry: Ocean Club, situated as it is right by the sea, serves up the Mediterranean, fish-centric food of dreams. I drooled over the butter-slathered lobster roll, and the pan-fried squid with homemade sriracha sauce and fennel salad was indecently good (as was the homemade pasta strewn with freshly-seared beef and capers). We topped it all off with a coconut panna cotta that melted on the tongue like chocolate: delicious.

There is one more restaurant, the beef-centric Oku (it serves up Japanese-French cuisine dedicated to all things meat), but it was closed the days we were there – more’s the pity.

And should you feel a tad antisocial, don’t worry: the hotel also offers a (huge) Floating Champagne Breakfast that will be delivered to your room in the morning. Why floating? The whole thing comes in a wicker basket that will bob around on the surface of your pool. Perfect for sitting back, cracking open a book and eating your way through the morning.

With all that to contend with, do also make time to visit the resort’s two bars: Bar Jade (which was closed at the time we visited), which offers more of a speakeasy vibe, and Fu Bar. Situated poolside on the tenth floor, we sipped our cocktails and watched the sun go down in style. Yum.

Anything you want, the Regent has. There’s a gym, stacked with top of the range equipment; there’s even morning yoga at 7am on the top floor. There’s a beautiful little spa tucked away at the bottom of the hotel, surrounded by running water, which offers treatments ranging from crystal bowl quartz meditation to pedicures and Alpha Quartz Sand Cocoon Therapy (which is what I had: basically, a massage on a bed of hot sand that managed to be both sweaty and relaxing).

And pools? There are pools aplenty – the huge Family Pool down by the Ocean Club lets you relax on daybeds shaded by palm trees, but our favourites had to be the infinity pools on the hotel’s two rooftops. Situated on the tenth floor, they gave onto the open sky and made us feel like rock stars.

There’s even a yacht, for which you can book a sunset tour excursion for around 4 million Vietnamese dong (or £120). The views were spectacular and the on-board catering was spot-on. Champagne on the open ocean: the stuff dreams are made of.

Extracurricular

There isn’t actually a whole lot to do on Phu Quoc, thanks to the island’s reputation as an off-the-beaten-track kind of place — and the Regent’s excellent service means you probably won’t want to leave.

That said, those thinking of heading out face a short drive to one of the island’s famous seafood markets for some of the freshest fish in Vietnam. Duong Dong’s busy night market offers grills, vegetarian food and coconut ice-cream to gorge on (follow the local crowds for the best seats).

Outside of Duong Dong, Phu Quoc is also an excellent place to beach-hop: try Sao Beach, Long Beach and Thom Beach to get your fill of crystalline waters and golden sand, while further inland, a trip to the huge Phu Quoc National Park demands a motorbike to be enjoyed properly (especially as there are no hiking trails).

Which room?

Every room here is gorgeous. Most have their own private pools and range from super-private villas (essentially a stand-alone house in the resort grounds) to city-living style apartments. That said, we’d especially recommend the Sky Pool Villa. Situated in one of the hotel’s three high-rise buildings, the Sky Pool Villa is an apartment that boasts its very own infinity plunge pool as well as a huge bedroom and living room panelled with glass.

The best thing about this room (apart from the massive bathroom) is the view: get a room as high up as you can, and let your eyes feast on the vista as you sip your morning Vietnamese coffee (strong and served with lashings of sweetened condensed milk). Artfully designed buildings that blend into the jungle, white sand and the ocean: yes, please.

When to go?

Though most people come in December and January, when the weather is at its best (clear skies, calm seas, not too hot), there’s something to be said for the off-season (April-May), when the Western tourists have gone and the hotel descends into a peaceful, empty solitude. It also means you’ll be able to grab some of the best rooms for better prices – a win in anybody’s book.

Couples in need of a long, relaxing break in the sun – though be prepared to splash the cash while you’re out there.

Bắt nguyên trưởng Công an TP Phú Quốc liên quan vụ án lừa đảo, chiếm đoạt tài sản

Đại tá Lê Văn Mót - nguyên trưởng Công an thành phố Phú Quốc, tỉnh Kiên Giang vừa bị bắt tạm giam, do có vai trò đồng phạm trong vụ án lừa đảo chiếm đoạt tài sản

Cơ quan cảnh sát điều tra Công an tỉnh Kiên Giang được truyền thông loan trong ngày 13/4, xác nhận đã khởi tố bị can, bắt tạm giam ông Lê Văn Mót trong cùng ngày. Cơ quan điều tra cũng đã tiến hành khám xét nơi ở của ông này tại TP Rạch Giá, thu thập tài liệu, chứng cứ phục vụ cho công tác điều tra.

Công an cũng cho biết, ông Mót bị bắt vì có những hành vi sai phạm do liên quan trong một vụ án lừa đảo chiếm đoạt tài sản xảy ra tại Phú Quốc vào năm 2022. Vụ án này được Cơ quan Cảnh sát điều tra Công an tỉnh Kiên Giang điều tra và việc bắt tạm giam ông Mót nằm trong quá trình mở rộng điều tra vụ việc.

Ông Lê Văn Mót giữ chức vụ trưởng Công an TP Phú Quốc từ năm 2017 đến hết năm 2022. Đầu năm 2023, ông này được điều chuyển về làm trưởng phòng Cảnh sát phòng cháy chữa cháy và cứu nạn cứu hộ tỉnh Kiên Giang.

Cuối tháng 1/2023, trưởng Công an huyện Hòn Đất – Thượng tá Mai Phương Nam, được điều động, bổ nhiệm làm Trưởng Công an TP Phú Quốc thời hạn năm năm thay ông Mót.

Ông Lê Văn Mót vừa nhận quyết định nghỉ hưu vào đầu năm 2024.
