(L-R) Liam Gallagher, Bonehead and Noel Gallagher performing in New York in 1994.

Oasis: Liam Gallagher announces 30th anniversary Definitely Maybe tour

Live performances of eight-times platinum Britpop album will be accompanied by other songs from the same era by the band

Liam Gallagher has announced that he will tour Oasis’s 1994 debut album, Definitely Maybe, in full for its 30th anniversary.

“I’m bouncing around the house to announce the Definitely Maybe tour,” Gallagher said. “The most important album of the 90s bar none. I wouldn’t be anywhere without it and neither would you, so let’s celebrate together.”

The tour will include fan favourites released while Oasis were touring Definitely Maybe, such as Whatever, Fade Away, Listen Up and Sad Song.

The tour begins in Sheffield on 2 June 2024 and concludes on 27 June – the day before Glastonbury kicks off.

Gallagher is likely to be joined by co-founding Oasis member Paul Arthurs (AKA Bonehead), who resumed touring with him earlier this year after a bout with tonsil cancer. In September 2022, he said that he had received the all-clear from doctors and was in recovery.

It is not quite the Oasis reunion that fans have been waiting 14 years for, since brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher split the band and became estranged in 2009.

The pair once vehemently denied rumours that they would reunite – not to mention declining lucrative offers to tour – but in recent years have humoured fans with the idea.

In August, Noel was asked at a live Q&A who would be in the Oasis lineup were they to reunite.

“So me, Liam. Well, it’s a funny thing because we’re all at a certain age now. Hair was a thing in Oasis, so we’ll have to see what everybody’s hair is looking like. I’m in no matter what. This is not fucking going anywhere. I don’t know. Look. Me, Liam and a load of fucking fit birds.”

Definitely Maybe , released on Creation Records in August 1994, is a landmark record in British music and helped define the Britpop era. It reached No 1 on release, becoming what was then the fastest-selling debut album in British music history, and was later certified eight times platinum.

It was a surprise success in some ways after a highly fraught creation, with difficult sessions at various recording studios.

In a review of the 2014 reissue of the album, Rolling Stone critic Rob Sheffield wrote: “Twenty years on, Oasis’ debut album remains one of the most gloriously loutish odes to cigarettes, alcohol, and dumb guitar solos that the British Isles have ever coughed up.”

Liam frequently performs songs from the album – and from Oasis’s catalogue – at his solo shows. His last solo album was 2022’s C’mon You Know . This year, Noel released Council Skies with his High Flying Birds band.

Tickets for the Definitely Maybe anniversary tour go on sale at 9am BST on 20 October.

Let Us Go Up to the Mountain of Jehovah - Israel Museum

“And many peoples will go and say: ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah.'” – Isa. 2:3

In 1991 Oasis began escorting groups to the Bible Lands together with Emmanuel Zervides of Meander Bible Tours , who himself began encouraging the brotherhood by conducting Bible based tours in the world renowned British Museum beginning in 1969.  Ever since those initial trips to the Israel, Oasis and Meander have worked closely together.  Today, our tours to Israel include a free tour of the one-of-a-kind Israel Museum in Jerusalem .  It contains the greatest collection of Biblical artifacts in the world and boasts an amazing scale model of first-century Jerusalem. It’s replica of the so-called Second Temple which existed in the time of Christ and is itself an amazing site!

oasis la tour

In 2016 responsible brothers in Israel formed Eyewitness Tours and approached Oasis about the possibility of working together on an expanded Bible-themed tour at the Israel Museum .  Their idea was to create in Israel something similar to Oasis’ tours at The Metropolitan Museum of Art  in New York City.  Their goal was to provide a permanent free tour at the museum that could be conducted year-round for the encouragement of their brothers and sisters visiting Jerusalem.

Experience has shown that for most, even if we enjoy history and/or museums, nothing makes those experiences more enjoyable than to have someone guide us along with a narrative that puts what we are seeing into biblically chronological and historical perspective.  So when writing this tour the objective was not just to show the museum’s most interesting items, but to tell a story because stories affect not just the mind but also the heart.  That affect leaves a lasting impression and makes it more enjoyable for all.  As the Come Be My Follower book states, “Because we often think best in pictures, illustrations can make even abstract ideas easier to grasp.”

A theme was chosen and development work began.  After many months of detailed research and preparation what was the result?  A marvelous tour entitled “ Let Us Go Up to the Mountain of Jehovah ”  This tour is tailor-made for Jehovah’s Witnesses by Jehovah’s Witnesses and encompasses the three most relevant wings of the museum:

The Archaeological Wing

The Shrine of the Book

The First-Century Model of Jerusalem

The first of these tours were conducted in March 2017 and since then many have continue to enjoy this faith strengthening experience.  Shortly thereafter, beginning in May of 2017, Oasis began including this tour as part of our comprehensive 15 day tour of Israel called “ The Most Beautiful of All the Lands ”  However, whether you are going with us to Israel, visiting that land on your own, or simply looking to experience some of this information virtually, we consider this a “don’t miss” opportunity to deepen your appreciation for bible truth. In April of 2020 a shortened, “virtual” version of this tour also became available online.

No matter how you experience this tour, you will have etched into your hearts and minds details like:

What it was like to ‘ go up to the mountain of Jehovah ‘ in the first century

What the scroll that Jesus read in the synagogue looked like

Biblical characters that made their mark on Jerusalem

The steps of Jesus’ momentous final day as you see 1st Century Jerusalem right before your eyes

A deeper appreciation for the “the greatest archaeological discovery of the 20th century”

We at Oasis Biblical Tours  are in heart-harmony with the brothers at Eyewitness who seek neither prominence or acclaim and wish to remain anonymous.  These self-sacrificing brothers in Israel, with decades of full-time service, have helped to ensure that this tour meets the same criteria that Oasis also seeks for all of it’s tours, namely, Biblical accuracy and harmony with current understanding of publications of the Faithful Slave.

The goals of this tour are the same as any tour we give or recommend: to bring glory and honor to Jehovah and build the faith of those who visit.  In line with that approach, these tours are conducted for free . All who part of Eyewitness are Jehovah’s Witnesses and most are in full-time service.  All guides are volunteers and dedicate much time to train for the tour and to strive to make it an unforgettable spiritual experience for their guests.  At our core, we at Oasis and Eyewitness share two things in common:

A passion for the Bible, history and archaeology that bring praise to Jehovah

We consider it a privilege to share what we have researched for the encouragement of our brothers and sisters as they examine these items more closely themselves.

We wholeheartedly thank our dear friends at E yewitness Tours. We have benefitted from their precious support and expert advice in the constant development and refinement our own Israel travel tour and we look forward to continuing to work with them going forward as we collaborate on both program’s tours.

The “ Let Us Go Up to the Mountain of Jehovah ” tour was conceived and written by Eyewitness Tours .  However, our close relationship with these brothers has make it possible for you to reserve space on their a virtual tour of Israel Museum by clicking the links above or below.

Road Trip: LA to The Oasis at Death Valley

Take a road trip from la to the oasis at death valley.

From the glitz and glamour of L.A., to the vast expanse of desert in Death Valley, this is a road trip of extremes. Expect endless views, a healthy dose of history and extraordinary beauty.

Note: This is one trip where it may be best to buy and become familiar with an old-fashioned paper map. The wide-open spaces can mean sketchy cell service.

santa monica

Start in Santa Monica

Minutes from downtown L.A., this happy-go-lucky, seaside enclave lures visitors with its beachy vibe and lengthy list of sun-drenched options. The pedestrian- only Third Street Promenade is a haven for shoppers, gallery-goers and for those who relish the weekly farmer’s markets.

The Santa Monica Pier, a SOCAL landmark, has been a festive and fun destination for more than a century. Wander beyond the iconic entrance gate and make your way to the historic Ferris wheel for long views of the Pacific Ocean, test your skills in the arcade and prepare for thrills on the roller coaster. Don’t miss the vintage carousel that pairs well with a stop for treats in the adjacent, old-school soda fountain. The adventuresome in your crew will want to inquire about flying trapeze classes that enable students to sample the exhilaration of this circus art at the pier.

Stop 1: Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park and Nature Center

The spectacular, tilted sandstone formations you’ll observe in the high desert near Agua Dulce Springs, are the centerpiece of a popular hiking, picnicking, birding and equestrian area. In the late 1800s bandits on the run would hide out amid the crevices and outcroppings. In more recent times, the jagged, crimson formations have served as a colorful backdrop for movies, television shows and commercials.

Vasquez Rocks

Stop 2: Red Rock Canyon State Park

Located where the southernmost tip of the Sierra Nevada meets the El Paso Range, the area’s colorful canyons, cliffs, buttes and formations have long attracted outdoor enthusiasts, photographers and paleontologists. The latter have searched the cliff’s sediment, now protected, for remains of prehistoric animals—three-toed horses, saber-toothed cats, and alligator lizards.

Consider a short hike into the formations of Hagen or Red Rock Canyon or simply stretch your legs and appreciate the setting that inspired many a film location scout.

Stop 3: Trona Pinnacles

Otherworldly, you say? You might even imagine you’ve landed on another planet. But, these earthbound tufa, or calcium carbonate spires, were formed between 10,000 and 100,000 years ago, in the bottom of what was once an ancient lakebed. (It’s believed that, at one point, during the Pleistocene, the area was under 640 feet of water.)

You’ll arrive from State Highway 178, via a five-mile-long dirt road. It’s passable (but slow-going) for most vehicles unless it has recently rained. (Then, take a pass unless you have four- wheel drive.) Designated a National Natural Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1968, the spectacular spheres, range in size from small boulder-like formations to tall, thin 140-foot monoliths.

With their relatively close proximity to LA, it’s easy to see how this geologic landscape has appealed to and inspired filmmakers, still-photographers and other creative adventurers.

Trona Pinnacles

Inside Death Valley National Park

Once inside Death Valley National Park there is so much to see and do. With more than 3.4 million acres, It’s the largest National Park in the lower 48. Expect 1000 miles of paved and dirt roads providing access to barren salt flats, spring-fed canyons and undulating sand dunes.

A land of extremes, you’ll explore below sea level at Badwater Basin or appreciate Telescope Peak at 11,049 feet.

An orange and pink sunset over windswept sand dunes.

Stop 4: Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes

En route to the Park Visitor’s Center in Furnace Creek and the Oasis at Death Valley, your overnight destination, consider a stop at the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. A photographer’s dream, the sea of sand can make for a challenging trek. Yet, if you are up for it, it’s worth the extra effort to explore beyond the parking area to steep in the solitude and fully appreciate the contours and ever-changing hues of the majestic dune system.

Stop 5: The Oasis at Death Valley

Here, within your own private oasis, inside a spectacular national park, choose to stay at The Inn, a favorite vintage hideaway where historic romance is paired with the pampering amenities of a contemporary luxury resort.

Settle in by the Hollywood-style, spring-fed pool. Sample soothing spa treatments. Linger over delicious cocktails and locally-inspired selections in the elegant Inn dining room.

Or, you may prefer to stay at The Ranch, where you’ll swim, soak, play and stay in a true Western atmosphere. Oozing authenticity, some say it’s part dude ranch, part national park lodge. We think you’ll agree it’s a perfect base camp from which to explore the park.

After a day filled with adventure, return to your comfortable accommodations just steps from an expansive lawn, a spring-fed pool, and the new Spanish-style Town Square. You won’t want to miss the good fun and fine food at The Last Kind Words Saloon!

Ranch entry

Return: Lone Pine

On your return trip to the sprawling metropolis of Los Angeles, consider a detour to Lone Pine. It’s a western-style town that serves as a gateway for outdoor lovers interested in hiking to the summit or in the shadow of Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous U.S. It’s also known for its early trout fishing season and as a jumping off point for fishing in the Owens Valley, and the Eastern Sierra, including the Golden Trout Wilderness.

Yet another popular California filming location, you can learn more about the town’s moviemaking tradition by stopping in to The Museum of Western Film History.

Road Trip Tips

  • Know that you will be traveling through a diverse climate much of which is remote desert. Make sure that you have an emergency supply of water, food, and fuel at all times.
  • Know the local laws for car safety when traveling with children. For those under one year of age or under 20 lbs., a rear-facing car seat is required. For those ages one to five, at least 20 lbs., and less than 4’9, a front-facing car seat is required. For children ages five to seven and up to 4’9, a booster car seat is required. Older children should always wear seat belts.
  • Bring an extra set of car keys. You could have a long wait for a locksmith.
  • Leave room for spontaneity – you never know what you will come across!

La Fortuna Night Tour at Arenal Oasis

  • Jenn and Matt
  • Activities , Family Travel

If you are traveling to Costa Rica to see wildlife, a night tour should definitely be on your list. We have done night tours in many spots around the country, and they are all different and wonderful in their own way. You never know what you will come across. The rainforest becomes extra active at night, and a guide can show you many species that are not usually noticeable during the day. In this post, we’ll tell you about an exciting night tour in La Fortuna at a small reserve called Arenal Oasis. Beware, we did see some scary stuff, so if you are nervous about a night tour, read with caution!

Arenal Oasis Night Tour

Arenal Oasis is a small wildlife refuge and ecolodge located in La Fortuna. The property sits on the eastern side of the famous Arenal Volcano and is close to town. With varied habitat including rainforest, gardens, and some spring-fed ponds, Arenal Oasis is the perfect spot to see many species living together in one place.

During the day, birding tours are very popular. Over 150 species have been identified on the property, which is a little less than 12 acres (5 hectares).

At night, guided tours bring you through the forest and around the spring-fed ponds. These water sources attract as many as 28 frog species. The frogs, in turn, attract other creatures like snakes, birds, and small mammals.

Because it is rainforest, there is always the chance to see other interesting critters too, especially insects and spiders.

Hourglass Tree Frog La Fortuna

The Night Tour at Arenal Oasis

The night tour starts around dusk at the Arenal Oasis reception area. Here, you meet up with the guide and get a flashlight to use on the trail. At this point, the sun is just going down so you have an opportunity to get familiar with your surroundings before it gets too dark.

It gets dark around 6:00 p.m. in Costa Rica all year-round, so you don’t have to be out too late to get the full experience.

When a lot of people are going on the night tour, groups get split up and go with different guides. This helps you be able to hear the guide and gather around him or her while they are explaining things along the way. Our group had about 10 people in it, which was good, but you sometimes couldn’t hear the guide very well if you were near the back.

Our Experience on the Night Tour

When we took the Arenal Oasis night tour, it was us and our two kids, ages five and two. Our five-year old, Sam, was ready and excited, but our 2-year old, Evan, wasn’t so sure. If you do try it with younger kids, we would recommend bringing a baby carrier so you can keep them close by.

Our night tour started off with some rain, which is very common in La Fortuna — it’s what keeps the rainforest lush and green after all.

Luckily it only rained hard for a few minutes and then cleared up to a light sprinkle. Everyone in our group had raincoats and some had umbrellas too.

Guided Night Tour Arenal

The trails at Arenal Oasis are very flat and easy. However, they are narrow at times, and you do brush up against sticks and leaves occasionally.

The trails weren’t too muddy, even with the rain, but closed-toed shoes are a necessity, especially with biting ants and things slithering across the trail (see below!).

What We Saw

As our guide led us through the forest, it wasn’t long before we started seeing some critters.

We first saw a cool giant grasshopper that was about seven inches (18 cm) long. Next, we observed a golden-orb spider weaving her web between some leaves.

Turning around, our guide spotted a larger frog in the tree. He explained that it was a Mexican tree frog and showed us the interesting camouflage pattern on its skin.

Mexican Tree Frog La Fortuna

We continued walking single file along the trail, as heavy water drops fell from the trees. It was completely dark now and we all swished our flashlights back and forth, looking for more.

Constantly we were stopping to observe something new. There were centipedes and millipedes, and different frogs and toads. Early on, we saw more Mexican tree frogs, along with brilliant emerald frogs, a leaf litter toad, and a common rain frog.

We were able to get some nice pictures of the frogs with our phones and cameras.

Snake!

Along one stretch of the trail, we got walking at a fairly good pace. Our family was toward the back.

Suddenly our son Sam’s flashlight illuminated something slithering under some low leaves that were hanging over the trail. Matt immediately recognized the A-shaped pattern on its skin. He quickly stopped Sam in his tracks and called out to the guide ahead. It was a terciopelo , a fer-de-lance!

The fer-de-lance (Bothrops asper) is known as Costa Rica’s deadliest snake since it causes more fatal bites than any other. This one was also huge at about five feet (1.5 meters) long! To make it even scarier, almost our entire group had walked within a couple of feet of it, without even noticing.

Our guide quickly jumped into action, making sure everyone kept their distance as the snake slowly slithered off the trail and coiled up next to the base of a tree. The guide then warned the group that was coming down the trail behind us to use caution.

Fer-de-lance Arenal night tour

This close encounter had our whole group on edge. Suddenly everyone was walking very carefully in the middle of the trail and using their flashlights to illuminate the way.

As it turns out, we were getting close to the spring-fed ponds, which attract a lot of frogs. Our guide explained that snakes love to eat frogs and that is why you often find them both in the same area.

In fact, we saw one more smaller fer-de-lance on the side of the trail in some leaves right before the first pond. This one just slithered away as we tiptoed past.

The sound of frogs chirping got louder and louder as we approached the water. Soon our guide stopped and pointed his light on a leaf. It was Costa Rica’s most famous frog, the red-eyed tree frog. These are striking, with a bright green color, orange feet, and red eyes. They are often used in marketing materials in Costa Rica because of their beauty.

red-eyed tree frog La Fortuna

We saw several of these special frogs, all hanging out above the ponds on leaves and branches.

In addition to the red-eyed tree frog, we saw some hourglass tree frogs, a web-footed frog, narrow-headed tree frog, and some giant Central American bullfrogs.

We even saw some eggs that one frog had laid on a leaf. These were strategically placed so that the tadpoles would fall into the water below when they hatched.

Frog eggs

Finishing the Tour

There were several ponds that we passed along the last part of the trail. They all had a chorus of frogs chirping around them, and we got to see many more of the same species we had previously spotted.

Before looping back around and heading for the reception, we got to see another species of snake. This one was small and much less harmful. It was called a cat-eyed snake. They have a very mild venom that usually isn’t too harmful to humans.

Cat-eyed snake La Fortuna

After about two hours in the wet jungle, we were all ready to get back to our cars. Not far from the parking area, we did have one more fun sighting: a sleeping toucan, high up in a tree.

The night tour at Arenal Oasis was definitely an adventure for our family. We did come in close contact with some scary snakes, but it was also really cool to see some of Costa Rica’s most beautiful frogs and insects. When walking the trails, it’s an amazing feeling to experience how alive the jungle becomes at night.

Quiet, peaceful place on fresh air. I travel a lot and enjoy Caucas food. But even in Tbilisi dishes arn't so tasty like in restaraunt "Tamada". Delicious dishes, nourishing barbecue, exquisite wine. No doubt I'll back to "Tamada' sometime

Quiet peaceful place in the middle of a noisy city. We went with friends for a few minutes to hide from the heat, but stayed for three and a half hours. This Kintauri meat was awesome

Taste of this Caucasian meal is unforgetable, but the names of the dishes are hard to pronounce. Great khin-ka-li, awesome shash-lik. Visit this place, if u want to plunge into the local flavor

Came to Rostov-on-Don to visit my sister, haven’t been here for ages. My friends recommended “Tamada” for our little family reunion, so I booked a table. It turns out I’ve nearly forgotten how great shashlik tastes – the kebabs in Germany are just not quite there. We have ordered so much that ended up taking almost half our food to go. It was cozy and the atmosphere was calm and relaxed. Everybody was polite and our waiter knew English. Overall, I had a great time there with my sister, so I guess I’ll pay them another visit before I go back.

Urban Soundtracks: Rostov-on-Don According to Motorama

' src=

For reasons unknown to me, Russian music has never broken into the Western consciousness, beyond that brief t.A T.u phase in the 2000’s. Americans just never caught on to the wonder that is Philipp Kirkorov, I suppose. Nonetheless,  Motorama has carved out a small niche for themselves as an underground hit. Maybe this is down to their lyrics being in English, or perhaps it’s the fact that they have a near-perfect capacity to summarize our twisted emotional landscape with their own brand of Post Punk.

Hailing from Rostov, Russia, they were formed outside the Moscow and Saint Petersburg cultural centers, which produce the bulk of the nation’s cultural exports. Known for being a far more rough city, Rostov appears to be the ideal backdrop for Motorama’s amazing capacity to engender emotions, like disappointment and anxiety. However, little writing is produced about the city and it attracts few tourists from outside Russia. As such, we spoke to  Vladislav Parshin from the band, and he kindly put together a bit of a mix to understand the place a bit more.

For most people anything outside of Russia, the country is a complete mystery. How did being from Rostov shape your musical tastes and you guys as artists?

For me the main influence was my father who showed me tons of great music from the Soviet Union and abroad and all these songs formed my tastes. Rostov-on-Don is also an important part of shaping the taste, as I knew personally the members of the New Wave/Post-Punk 90’s bands like Elen  and Matrosskaya Tishina , they influenced me in the beginning of the 2000’s.

It is interesting looking at musical scenes that are outside the centers of arts like Manchester, Seattle, and Louisville. It is as if being removed from the mainstream conversation allows you to produce something completely unique and personal. To a certain degree, do you think that your band was almost blessed to be outside the major cities of mainstream culture?

I won’t say that it was a blessing, but it was fine for us as a band. I think that living outside the big cultural spots is a good chance for creating something by yourself, you have more free time, instead of visiting never ending exhibitions, concerts and parties. But at the same time it’s harder to meet people who share the same ideas and who can help you in what you are doing. In general I feel comfortable living in Rostov-on-Don, we are flying to Moscow and St. Petersburg from time to time only because of the concerts.

The mix is fantastic. It is very Post Punk/synth-inspired. However, it is hardly the most ‘sunshine and rainbows’ mix. You’ve said in other interviews that there is nothing exciting about your home city of Rostov. Does that contribute to the sound of the mix?

I like such music and I think it suits our city.

In many articles, your work has been compared to British post-punk bands but I think it is fair to say that you’re part of a broader Soviet/post-Soviet tradition of bands like Kino. What is it about this darker style of music that continues to attract people across different generations in the former USSR?

I think that there’s a specific side in Russian character that is connected with such dark or sorrowful music. For example, lots of traditional folk songs from different parts of Russia are based on metaphysical stories connected with faith and death. All these existential problems are reflected in different art genres here, not only with music, but also literature.
