Pacific X Tour Pro 97 Racquet Review

pacific tour pro 97

  • Comfortable
  • Arm-friendly
  • Smaller sweetspot

Video Review

Our playtesters really enjoyed what the Pacific X Tour Pro 97 offered, noting the outstanding comfort and control in particular. With the new BasaltX Fiber Technology, which seeks to iron out the vibrations on off-center contact, this racquet proved to be very comfortable. The 16x20 string pattern, which is gaining popularity, provided good spin and ample power. The new grommet system, which protects the frame all the way down to the throat area, keeps this stick looking good longer! Our playtesters did notice a smaller sweetspot, which could be widened through modifications such as stringing at the low end of the tension range or placing some tungsten tape at 10 and 2 o'clock on the hoop. Overall, this X Tour Pro 97 is an all-court racquet that provides a comfortable response for players looking to take aggressive cuts at the ball.

Pacific X Tour Pro 97 Racquet Review Scores

Groundstrokes - score: 85.

The common thread in our playtesters' experience from the baseline was the comfort level of the X Tour Pro 97 . Sebastian really liked the way this racquet felt when he was swinging it, noting its exceptional comfort on groundstrokes. He said, "I was surprised by the superior comfort and excellent feel of the Pacific X Tour Pro 97 from the baseline. Besides the comfort, I really enjoyed this racquet's maneuverability and fast feel. Its headlight balance and very manageable swingweight allowed me to swing through the ball easily while creating a lot of topspin."

Similarly, Mark felt right at home from the baseline with this racquet, stating, "I usually begin hitting sessions with some short-court groundstrokes, and this is when I get to see if I can finesse a given racquet. With Pacific's newer X Tour Pro 97, I was feeling very comfortable within 20 shots. Whether I was playing groundstroke games from the baseline or from inside the service court, I felt like I was getting more power than expected from the X Tour Pro 97. My groundstroke consistency was in the 90 percent range, and because my backhand/forehand eclipsed the 70 MPH barrier, I quickly learned to love this racquet from the baseline."

Karly had mixed emotions when it came to hitting with this racquet from the baseline. She explained, "What stood out the most to me was the muted feel of this racquet. On one hand, I really enjoyed the extreme comfort; it was very dampened and absorbed shock really well. It also felt very stable, so I didn't experience any harsh vibrations or fluttering. On the other hand, the feel was so muted that I felt disconnected from the ball. I didn't get that immediate response of knowing which direction my shot was going when I made contact. Whether my shots flew off the racquet because I hit the sweetspot or landed short because I hit outside of it, contact felt the same. I had a hard time playing consistently because of that unpredictable response. On the bright side, it was a very comfortable racquet to hit with even if I mis-hit the ball."

Volleys - Score: 88

Our playtesters enjoyed the X Tour Pro 97 up at net, and, for the most part, they were in control of where their volleys ended up. Karly found a good all-around level of performance up at net, noting, "I liked volleying with the X Tour Pro 97 for a number of reasons, the biggest one being I thought it played consistently. I had a better sense of where my shots were going when I made contact. It felt livelier and not as muted, while still offering tremendous comfort and great stability. It didn't flutter in my hand at all if I hit off-center shots. I also thought the maneuverability helped the most on volleys. I was confident I could move the racquet into position in time and never felt slowed down at all. Actually, there wasn't anything I disliked about volleying with the X Tour Pro 97!"

Sebastian was also confident volleying with the X Tour Pro 97, and he was a big fan of the maneuverability at net. He said, "I enjoyed this racquet a lot when coming to the net and hitting volleys, particularly because of its great feel and exceptional maneuverability. Even in pressure situations, I was able to react quickly and adjust the position of my racquet accordingly. I was able to hit my volleys with great precision, allowing me to go for my volleys with a lot of confidence."

The specs of the X Tour Pro 97 suited Mark really well, giving him the ability to get the racquet into position with ease. He said, "I always expect that a racquet weighing close to 12 ounces will feel very stable at net, however, I sometimes have trouble getting heavier racquets into proper position on time. The combination of the X Tour Pro 97's soft feel and weight suited me perfectly anywhere near the net."

Serves - Score: 86

The playtesters seemed to enjoy the fast feel this racquet offered, especially while serving. Karly was finding plenty of spin on both first and second serves, stating, "The X Tour Pro 97 swung much faster than I was expecting for serves. Even with its heavier weight, I was able to whip this head light racquet around quickly for a hard flat serve or use its great spin potential for a second serve that offered a ton of kick when it landed. The spin was so easy to generate I was still confident I could hit a tough second serve even on the days when my first serve percentage was lower than usual. My only minor complaint was that I really had to put in extra effort to generate power. Hitting flat serves helped, but I had to swing hard and fast if I wanted good pace on a serve with spin."

Mark found a consistent response with this racquet on his serves, which complemented his groundstroke game nicely. He said, "Although I have been working on my serve lately, my ground game is a bit more accomplished compared to the serve portion of my game. That said, the Pacific X Tour Pro 97 benefited my serve along with the rest of my game, so much so that I successfully used it in a doubles tournament. PlaySight loves to let me know that my MPHs are nothing to brag about, but my serve was effective and consistent with the new X Tour Pro 97."

While the X Tour Pro 97 had definite upsides for Sebastian , he was left wanting some additional performance. He explained, "While I did enjoy the racquet's fast feel and maneuverability on second serves, I was hoping for a bit more stability, as well as more mass towards the head of the racquet -- especially on first serves. Despite its substantial static weight of almost 12 ounces, the headlight balance and low swing weight didn't provide me with the power I was hoping for. On that note, I feel that the specifications of the Pacific X Tour Pro 97 leave room for customization and some added weight toward the head of the racquet. When I was going for a heavy kick serve I did enjoy the higher trajectory I was able to get on the ball, and I really liked being able to generate lots of spin."

pacific tour pro 97

Returns - Score: 79

Return of serve was one area where our playtesters struggled to find a consistent response with this racquet. Playing around with some lead tape and customization is one way these inconsistencies could be ironed out. Sebastian struggled with a bit of twisting on impact, mentioning, "Once again, I was wishing for a bit more stability. I feel that some added weight to the head of the X Tour Pro 97 would improve stability during contact and minimize twisting on off-center shots. While I did enjoy the fast feel, which allowed me to maneuver through my return quickly, I was struggling with some racquet head twisting."

Similarly, Karly was left wanting more mass in the frame on returns, stating, "I had a harder time with serve returns only because of its head light balance. When I was returning against a powerful server the X Tour Pro 97 didn't feel like it had enough weight to drive through my stroke. It lacked plow through and the ball seemed to lag on the stringbed longer, so I had to follow-through with more effort and energy than usual. I didn't notice it as much with slower serves, but when serves came in fast and I had to swing quickly I struggled with plow through and depth."

Mark had the opposite experience. He found this racquet a bit on the heavier side for returning. He elaborated, "Returning serves was not my strongest suit with the X Tour Pro 97. My go-to shot for the service return is a chip back deep in the court, which was fine. However, I have been trying to swing through my return more often, and when I attempted this shot I did feel the X Tour Pro 97's heft a bit more."

Overall - Score: 86

Mark - "I like the SF Giants' cosmetics and the easy access to spin and power. I also appreciated Pacific's newer bumper guard/grommet system, which protects the frame better and probably contributes to its very solid feel."

Karly - "I loved how comfortable and arm-friendly the X Tour Pro 97 felt, no matter where I made contact. It had such a dampened feel and absorbed shock really well."

Sebastian - "The standout features were excellent maneuverability and comfort, and superior feel."

Mark - "I'm not sure this really qualifies as a dislike, but the X Tour Pro 97 is a racquet that begs me to reconsider my thoughts/doubts regarding how effective I can be with a heavy racquet."

Karly - "The very different response between hitting inside the sweetspot and outside of it."

Sebastian - "At times I was struggling with the racquet head twisting on off-center shots."

Comparing the racquet to others they've tried, our testers said:

Mark - "Other racquets with a plush feel that are comparable to the Pacific X Tour Pro 97 are the Babolat Pure Control Tour, the Volkl Super G 10 (320g), the Prince Textreme Tour 95, and although the beam is a little firmer, the Head Graphene Prestige MP."

Karly - "The X Tour Pro 97 reminded me a lot of the Volkl Organix 10 Mid, only with a bigger head and more power. Both racquets are extremely comfortable and arm friendly, swing faster than their weight suggests, offer a stable feel throughout the court, and have a really dampened, muted feel on contact."

Sebastian - "I found the Pacific X Tour Pro 97 to play similarly to both the Volkl Super G 10 (320g) and the Tecnifibre TFight 315 DYNACORE. All three racquets have a solid static weight of around 12 ounces and provide the mass of a player's racquet. Both the Pacific and the Tecnifibre racquets have a 7 point headlight balance and low swingweight, which gives any player room to experiment with some added weight."

Pacific X Tour Pro 97 vs. X Force Pro 1 - TW Power level rating?

  • Thread starter Michael Meyer
  • Start date Sep 9, 2015

Michael Meyer

  • Sep 9, 2015

Hi - I noticed on TW specs section that the new Pro 97 was rated "low" lowered and the new Pro 1 was "low-medium". Then i looked at the full review, where the Pro 97 was rated 85 in Power and the Pro 1 significantly below that at 64. Anyone know what the discrepancy is here? And if anyone has any feedback on which one may have a bit more pop that would be great. I've been playing with pure drives for the last 12 years since playing college. I currently coach DI and still play but due to a wrist injury (and attempt to avoid surgery), must switch to something way more arm friendly and sacrifice the power i loved with the PD. Assuming both of these are very arm friendly (which i believe they are), trying to pick the one with a little more pop since i know Pacific/fischer in general are some of the most lower powered rackets in general. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Pro No1 has a just little bit more pop and is easier to play with. Both very arm friendly For serious player pro 97 is better

He asked which racquet has more pop in stock form. Power and pop are not the same thing. In stock form Pro 97 is definitely more demanding. What is interesting for me 97 played softer. Both are great racquets, BTW

tennis1111 said: Power and pop are not the same thing. Click to expand...

It was discussed several times here on forum. Power would be like you described and pop would be energy returned to the ball from racquet. For example stiffer racquets return more energy so they usually have more pop.

Stiffness measured by the RDC represents racquet deflection at one point only. Moreover it's a common exaggeration that the flex has such an impact on racquet power or as you like to call it pop. But believe what you will.

thanks for your feedback and different viewpoints. i look forward to trying them both i think. good to know the 97 played a bit softer for tennis1111 as i was a little worried about the stiffness rating. thanks again guys for the quick replies

What up Mike Meyer? Congrats on winning the regional US Open Qualifying for dubs! We miss having you around the Gateway. My 2cents would be that the Pro 1 tapered beam might seem more familiar since you have spent so long using Pure Drive which has a tapered beam. Tour 97 has a straight beam. Good Luck! -Dave Halleck

Dave - thanks for the feedback and good to hear from you. been awhile! hope SF is treating you well.

Yonex Vcore Pro 97 Racquet Review

Yonex VCORE Pro 97 Racquet Review

The update to the Yonex VCORE Pro series is here. Henrik Wallensten has tested the various racquets and here is his Yonex VCORE Pro 97 Racquet Review.

The VCORE Pro series from Yonex is best known for it´s comfortable and controlled racquets. A little bit more demanding then the wider frames in the Vcore and Ezone-range, Vcore Pro seems to please players with flatter strokes that require more control.

The new dark-green colored Vcore Pro has a new technology in the handle. A sort of vibration dampening mesh. There is a very interesting video on youtube from Japan where they demonstrate this new vibration dampening mesh and it really seems to be working. Apart from this new mesh, the new Vcore Pro still has the same isometric head shape and Namd tech.

Yonex Vcore Pro 97 Racquet Review – Specs

Yonex VCORE Pro 97 Racquet Review

Yonex Vcore Pro 97 Racquet Review – HD version

pacific tour pro 97

For this test, it was a total of four players testing the frames. First, let’s look at 97HD! The 97HD is a much-talked-about frame. Ten grams lighter than the heavy 330 gram 16/19 version, this frame has a dense 18/20 string pattern for improved control and stability. To give you guys a rough idea of what it feels like, I can compare it to the all-mighty holy grail, Head Pro Tour without the CAP grommets. It´s a very comfortable frame. Virtually no vibrations at all. Super solid feel. The tight 18/20 string pattern combined with the soft flexing frame requires a lot from the player. You don’t get anything free from this frame. You really have to work to generate the ball-speed you need.

pacific tour pro 97

Overall, the new 97HD is a demanding frame for players with good strokes. A weaker player will have a hard time with this frame as the sweet spot is fairly small and demanding. For a good player seeking control, I would have a hard time thinking of a frame that gives you more control and comfort than the new 97HD. The Burn 95 player actually will make the switch to the 97HD!

Yonex Vcore Pro 97 Racquet Review – 310 grams

Yonex VCORE Pro 97 Racquet Review

For the 97 – 310 gram version we had the perfect test player. A young lefty (he looks like a young(er) Shapovalov but with a two-handed backhand) and this player uses the current Vcore Pro 97 – 310 gram version. When comparing the old and the new Vcore Pro, the mold itself looks virtually identical (minus the paint of course). On court, the new frame has the same control and spin as the old version, but the feel is different. The new frame has a more muted, dampened feel. To make it understandable, it feels like you have a huge vibration dampener installed. There are no vibrations at all in the handle. Even on off-center hits, you feel almost no jarring at all. And this is in the stock version of the frame.

Even if the weight and balance are the same in the new and old version, the test player Edwin Sköld felt that the new version was a tad faster through the air. I have not got my Head 3-in-1 swing weight unit yet (it´s ordered so I will also, like Jonas, be able to measure and compare SW value in the future – the most important unit) so I can’t compare the SW between the old and new, but since Yonex QC is the best in the business, I presume they are almost spot on from what Yonex promise in their marketing.

Yonex Vcore Pro 97 Racquet Review – Dampening and Flex is the Trend

Yonex VCORE Pro 97 Racquet Review

With the new version of the Vcore Pro, Yonex has like a lot of the other brands, focused on low flex and a (very) dampened feel. I would say that for me personally when I tested this 97 16/19 frame, I really enjoyed the dampened feel. I normally buy lighter frames and fill them up with lead and silicone to remove all vibrations, but with this new frame that is not needed at all. It´s already perfect in that department.

The toughest rivals to the new Vcore Pro is the new Wilson Blade , Head Gravity , Tecnifibre TF40 and the new Pure Strike . All these new frames are 97-100 sq.inches, thin-framed beams, and offer a dampened feel. Most of them also have a noodle-soft flex, apart from the +70RA Babolat frame. It will be interesting to see if Babolat also comes up with something soft in the future, now when everyone else is going soft.

Don’t like where yonex is going with these too muted and low flex rackets. Takes away the raw feel you need to get the feedback.

Can you PLEASE try and test a new Yonex Regna? It is supposedly the Holy Grail of Yonex and maybe the one racquet to rule them all..

I’ve been playing with i.prestage MP. Strung weight is 358g with leather grip.(getting tougher for me bcos I’m getting older…) Recently I had a chance to play with Yonex VCORE pro 97HD with full bed of poly tour. It was very nice feeling like a holding ball in a pocket longer than my i.prestige. But I felt Vcore is a bit forgiveness for off center hit.(also surprised no much vibration to my arm. Prob. VDM is worked well…) and it has a little power assist and less info compared with i.prestige MP. I still can’t get a chance to test Gravity Pro or Tour. What’s your opinion abt compare these rackets with i.prestige MP? (A bit worry Pro is a bit heavier for me…)

How would the 97 Hd compare to Angell K7 lime, which is a 98 headsize with a similar low RA, and probably similar feel, but slightly thicker in the throat, so slightly more powerful?

Why use a dampener from Prince (US) on a Yonex (JPN) racquet? You can never be 100% sure they’ll get along.

Thanks for the review! I’m using a Pacific X Tour Pro 97, which also has a fairly small sweetspot and can be quite demanding. I am just wondering if you feel that the 97HD has more or less inherent power the the Pacific? Is it about equally demanding or more demanding than the Pacific, regarding for example the sweet spot?

I just got to test out the HD version. I have 1 word, WOW! This racquet felt amazing. So pure on contact, comfortable to use and actually quite a bit of pop for such a low flex racquet. I had plenty of spin and could put the ball wherever I wanted. Personally I loved it! Don’t quite understand why some would have negative things to say about it, but to each his own. That’s why we have so many different types of racquets to choose from in the world eh?

I’m interested in this frame, as well. My shop has a full peg of them, so I suspect they have a demo strung up. I may have to check that out this weekend when I go by and get my Wilson 6.1 Hyper 95 from a string job.

I’m old school and like tight patterns more, still. I think … I haven’t driven my 16×19 long enough to know, but I come from when you got 18×16 on a 70 inch head. “Open pattern” was when you broke a string; we didn’t get to pick our bed density like we can now.

The Vcore 95 HG has my attention, too. I’m going to be reading up on that one, as well.

Hey, T. I am a fellow i.Prestige MP driver. Got any string tips? I have an old, old set of Tecnifibre NRG that I need to cut out and upgrade. I’ve got some ideas but if you have any winning string combos, feel free to share.

BTW, new string job on the Hyper 6.1 is going to be Black Code 16 mains, and NRG2 17 in the crosses. It’s a new stick to me and it had some mid-range syngut that I knew I wouldn’t like so I haven’t even hit with it yet.

Hmm except from the new color scheme, it looks like the good old Vcore Duel G, which I still using. Fantastic stick.

Hi Thanks for your reviews always very informative! On the back of many great reviews into the Vcore pro 97 310 I finally bought one and tried it out last night in a three hour mens doubles practice match. I was really really surprised at how it played I would say it was very interesting and certainly not particularly good! My main weapon is a huge flat 100mph forehand and this racket fell way short of being able to produce it at all, some balls hit the back fence others in the base of the net. Throughout the night I kept adding more weight to the hoop but never really gelled with it. It played almost exactly the same as the older wilson BLX blade 93 and not dissimilar to the Vcore SV95 but better feel that the SV95 but I’d certainly choose the SV 95 over it. In my bag last night I had every range of new gen Pure strikes, Pure drive Vs( very weighted up), Yonex, SV 98, SV98+, SV95 and XI98. I ended up going back to the XI which was just an easier frame to use (solinco Hyper G 18G at 45lb). On the plus side you can hit angles not possible with any other racket I’ve used recently but It doesn’t give you anything more than the blade 93. For great flat shots I’ve still to find a better frame than the Kblade 98 18/20 and I must have tried about 80 frames by now! For me certainly not a great flat hitters frame. (Strung with RPM blast at 52lb witch I don’t particularly like so I might give it a go with a different string). Thanks Martin

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

IR-2024-106, April 11, 2024

WASHINGTON — With the April 15 tax filing deadline fast approaching, the Internal Revenue Service reminds taxpayers who need more time to file their return that receiving an extension is quick and easy through IRS Free File on IRS.gov. An extension gives taxpayers an automatic six more months – until Oct. 15 this year – to file their tax return.

The IRS also reminds taxpayers that payments are still due by the original deadline, even if they request an extension of time to file a tax return. Taxpayers should file even if they can't pay the full amount.

Use IRS Free File to get an extension online

One of the fastest and easiest ways to get an extension is through IRS Free File on IRS.gov. All individual tax filers, regardless of income, can electronically request Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return PDF , by using the IRS Free File partner software on IRS.gov.

To get an extension, taxpayers must estimate their tax liability on this form and file it by April 15, 2024.

By filing either a return on time or requesting an extension by the April 15 filing deadline, people avoid the late-filing penalty, which can be 10 times as costly as the penalty for not paying.

More time to file, not more time to pay

While an extension allows for extra time to gather, prepare and file paperwork, it's important to remember that an extension of time to file taxes is not an extension of time to pay. Taxpayers who owe should pay their entire obligation, or as much as they can, by the April 15 deadline to avoid penalties and interest.

Taxpayers who pay as much as they can by the due date reduce the overall amount subject to penalty and interest charges. The interest rate for an individual's unpaid taxes is currently 7%, compounded daily. The late-filing penalty is generally 5% per month and the late-payment penalty is normally 0.5% per month, both of which max out at 25%.

Make a payment and get an extension, automatically

Other fast, free and easy ways to get an extension include using IRS Direct Pay , the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System or by paying with a credit or debit card or digital wallet . There is no need to file a separate Form 4868 extension request when making an electronic payment and indicating it is for an extension. The IRS will automatically count it as an extension.

The IRS will work with taxpayers who cannot pay the full amount of tax they owe. Other options to pay, such as getting a loan or paying by credit card, may help resolve a tax debt. Most people can set up a payment plan on IRS.gov to pay off their balance over time.

Some taxpayers get automatic extensions

Special rules offer some taxpayers more time without having to request an extension:

  • U.S. citizens and resident aliens who live and work outside of the United States and Puerto Rico get an automatic two-month extension, until June 15, to file their tax returns. However, tax payments are still due April 15 or interest will accrue on the unpaid tax.
  • Members of the military on duty outside the United States and Puerto Rico also receive an automatic two-month extension to file. Those serving in combat zones have up to 180 days after they leave the combat zone to file returns and pay any taxes due. Details are available in Publication 3, Armed Forces' Tax Guide .
  • When the U.S. president makes a disaster area declaration, the IRS can postpone certain tax deadlines for taxpayers in affected areas. Taxpayers in qualified disaster areas do not need to submit an extension electronically or on paper. Information on the most recent tax relief for disaster situations can be found on the Extension of time to file your tax return page.

Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-3

National origin:- Soviet Union Role:- Fighter Interceptor Manufacturer:- Mikoyan-Gurevich Designer:- First flight:- 29th October 1940 Introduction:- 1941 Status:- Retired 1945 Produced:- 1940-1941 Number built:- 3,422 Primary users:- Soviet Air Forces (VVS); Soviet Air Defence Forces (PVO); Soviet Naval Aviation Developed from:- Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-1 Variants:- Mikoyan-Gurevich I-211 Operational history MiG-3s were delivered to frontline fighter regiments beginning in the spring of 1941 and were a handful for pilots accustomed to the lower-performance and docile Polikarpov I-152 and I-153 biplanes and the Polikarpov I-16 monoplane. It remained tricky and demanding to fly even after the extensive improvements made over the MiG-1. Many fighter regiments had not kept pace in training pilots to handle the MiG and the rapid pace of deliveries resulted in many units having more MiGs than trained pilots during the German invasion. By 1 June 1941, 1,029 MIG-3s were on strength, but there were only 494 trained pilots. In contrast to the untrained pilots of the 31st Fighter Regiment, those of the 4th Fighter Regiment were able to claim three German high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft shot down before war broke out in June 1941. However high-altitude combat of this sort was to prove to be uncommon on the Eastern Front where most air-to-air engagements were at altitudes well below 5,000 metres (16,000 ft). At these altitudes the MiG-3 was outclassed by the Bf 109 in all respects, and even by other new Soviet fighters such as the Yakovlev Yak-1. Furthermore, the shortage of ground-attack aircraft in 1941 forced it into that role as well, for which it was totally unsuited. Pilot Alexander E. Shvarev recalled: "The Mig was perfect at altitudes of 4,000 m and above. But at lower altitudes it was, as they say, 'a cow'. That was the first weakness. The second was its armament: weapons failure dogged this aircraft. The third weakness was its gunsights, which were inaccurate: that's why we closed in as much as we could and fired point blank." On 22 June 1941, most MiG-3s and MiG-1s were in the border military districts of the Soviet Union. The Leningrad Military District had 164, 135 were in the Baltic Military District, 233 in the Western Special Military District, 190 in the Kiev Military District and 195 in the Odessa Military District for a total of 917 on hand, of which only 81 were non-operational. An additional 64 MiGs were assigned to Naval Aviation, 38 in the Air Force of the Baltic Fleet and 26 in the Air Force of the Black Sea Fleet. The 4th and 55th Fighter Regiments had most of the MiG-3s assigned to the Odessa Military District and their experiences on the first day of the war may be taken as typical. The 4th, an experienced unit, shot down a Romanian Bristol Blenheim reconnaissance bomber, confirmed by postwar research, and lost one aircraft which crashed into an obstacle on takeoff. The 55th was much less experienced with the MiG-3 and claimed three aircraft shot down, although recent research confirms only one German Henschel Hs 126 was 40% damaged, and suffered three pilots killed and nine aircraft lost. The most unusual case was the pair of MiG-3s dispatched from the 55th on a reconnaissance mission to PloieÅŸti that failed to properly calculate their fuel consumption and both were forced to land when they ran out of fuel. Most of the MiG-3s assigned to the interior military districts were transferred to the PVO where their lack of performance at low altitudes was not so important. On 10 July 299 were assigned to the PVO, the bulk of them belonging to the 6th PVO Corps at Moscow, while only 293 remained with the VVS, and 60 with the Naval Air Forces, a total of only 652 despite deliveries of several hundred aircraft. By 1 October, on the eve of the German offensive towards Moscow codenamed Operation Typhoon, only 257 were assigned to VVS units, 209 to the PVO, and 46 to the Navy, a total of only 512, a decrease of 140 fighters since 10 July, despite deliveries of over a thousand aircraft in the intervening period. By 5 December, the start of the Soviet counter-offensive that drove the Germans back from the gates of Moscow, the Navy had 33 MiGs on hand, the VVS 210, and the PVO 309. This was a total of 552, an increase of only 40 aircraft from 1 October. Over the winter of 1941-42 the Soviets transferred all of the remaining MiG-3s to the Navy and PVO so that on 1 May 1942 none were left on strength with the VVS. By 1 May 1942, Naval Aviation had 37 MiGs on strength, while the PVO had 323 on hand on 10 May. By 1 June 1944, the Navy had transferred all its aircraft to the PVO, which reported only 17 on its own strength, and all of those were gone by 1 January 1945. Undoubtedly more remained in training units and the like, but none were assigned to combat units by then.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Brayden McNabb, Michael Amadio and Nicolas Roy scored, and the Vegas Golden Knights moved into third place in the Pacific Division after defeating the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 on Tuesday night.

The Knights, who have won three consecutive games, are one point ahead of Los Angeles. If Vegas beats Anaheim on Thursday, the Knights will open their defense of their Stanley Cup championship against Edmonton in the first round of the playoffs. The Kings host the Blackhawks in their season finale on Thursday night.

“The best time of the year is coming,” Roy said. “We’re trying to get our game in the best place possible. I don’t think it was our best game tonight, but I think defensively we did a great job, enough to win, so there’s a great mood around the team for sure.”

Logan Thompson made 23 saves for Vegas. He was working on his second shutout of the season before Jason Dickinson scored for Chicago with 3:58 to go.

Petr Mrazek stopped 34 shots for the Blackhawks (23-53-5), who have lost five in a row. Connor Bedard picked up an assist, but he has one goal in his past 13 games.

“I think he might be feeling like everybody — a little depleted,” Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson said. “Our record’s not been great. You get to this time of the year, he’s probably disappointed that we’re not in the hunt for a playoff spot, which we all are.”

It may look like an NHL team has just fallen into Salt Lake City's lap. McNabb used a spin-around rebound shot to put the Knights in front with 3:35 left in the second period.

“He stayed on top of the puck,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “He didn’t just immediately get back to his point position, which sometimes you have to if you can’t find the puck. But I think he might’ve been the only guy in the building to know where it is. I wasn’t even sure how it went in at first. I don’t think their guys knew, either, because no one really reacted until he spun around.”

Tomas Hertl had the primary assist for his fourth point in five games since he was acquired in a trade with San Jose .

Vegas extended the lead to 2-0 at 7:13 of the third when Amadio took the puck from Chicago’s Frank Nazar to set up a breakaway goal from the right circle.

Amadio received good-natured ribbing from his teammates after switching from black to white tape on his stick to try to end his scoring drought. He had one goal in his previous 15 games.

“I just went cold for a few games, so I was just trying anything I can to get the offense going,” Amadio said.

The Knights nearly scored again 2:34 later when a linesman awarded Pavel Dorofeyev a goal, but a replay showed the puck hit the crossbar and stayed out.

Roy’s empty-netter closed it out for Vegas with 1:36 left.

U.S. Olympic swimmer Katie Grimes cranked the horn to open the third period. She just missed out on a medal in 2021 at the age of 15 and became the first American athlete in any sport to qualify for this year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Blackhawks: At Los Angeles on Thursday to end the season.

Golden Knights: Host Anaheim on Thursday to close the regular season.
